Great professor! He'll really be able to let you know if you're cut out for med school or not. I liked him so much that I took him for chem 110 and 120. His tests are hard, but he will separate the weak from the strong. Plus, he's got charisma!

VERY hard class, but you only do bad if you don't put the effort in. I studied 4 hours the previous night and got a 96 on a test that the class averaged 60 on. Doesn't curve. Hard, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Amazing professor. Truly cares about his students....is difficult. Expects you to know your stuff, so you actually have to work. Will definitely help you determine whether or not you'll survive to apply to med school. One of the best I've had!!!!

Dr. Wagner is someone do not recommend for chem 1 for freshmens, but you would have to be stupid not to take him for chem II once you accustom yourself with college work. He is one of the best teachers I ever had.

Not a good professor to take unless you had AP Chem in high school. Tests are really hard and not consistent with the book or the notes or the lectures. If you're a chemistry wizard, this might be a good class to take so you aren't bored out of your mind in general chemistry.

Well, he knows his chemistry, but will try to make you feel like you don't. The lecture's are pretty interesting but the exams are miserable. Don't expect an easy A. In fact, props to you if you expect an A at all.

He is an awesome teacher although his tests are very difficult at times, especially the one on thermochemistry, but his finals aren't that bad and actually the final shows how much you actually know, i think i ended up with a B or A and i never took AP chemistry so anyone can do it.

This class was cake. I only took reg. chem is HS. He has open ended notes where you just fill in the blanks. I DEFINANTLY recommend doing the online practice quizes!! You will definantly see them on the test and final!! I only studied the practice quizes for the final & was done in 45 min & got an A

1st test sucks; it's not too "hard", but def long as heck. his lectures remind me of "blue's clues"...yeah, sounds ridiculous, but he'll stand up there and ask you stuipd questions without ever expecting an answer. class becomes very boring as you wait for him to twiddle his thumbs. nice guy though

I absolutely hated chemistry..and then i had Dr.Eugene Wagner. Don't let the name fool you, he's pretty cute and he helps you out a ton if you have questions of completely lost! His quizzes are rough and he pushes you but overall it helps. Take Wagner and you'll learn to like chem.

I loved this class until I got a question marked wrong on my exam that was correct. Not only did he not award me the points after I gave my exam back to him immediately, but also he gave me a C in the class when the points equaled a B. He never returned my emails, either.

He is a really hard teacher but you will learn alot. He will answer any questions you may have. If you are a chem major mos def take chem from him. And if you completly fail the first test don't worry and don't drop the class you still have a shot for at least making a B

Wagner's the best teacher I've had thus far. He tries to make it as easy as possible to follow along and really understand the ins and outs of chem. He has a good sense of humor and a knack for keeping chem interesting. Same amount of HW as the other teachers, but tests have more writing. An 85 is an A. Its challenging, but you'll learn a lot.

Lectures were a bit boring, I'd recommend taking the 50 minute rather than the long one. It helps to do the homework assigned, because it's very similar to what will be on the quizzes. It seems like he pulls tests out of his ass, but if you study enough, you'll do fine. The only complaint I have is that he's sometimes unfair about partial credit.

Makes lectures fun sometimes by doing neat demonstrations. Very nice and easy to talk to and very helpful in office hours. His pre-printed notes make the class much easier to follow. Tests are EXTREMELY hard (especially the first one), but he curves pretty nicely. I would recommend him to anyone for gen. chem, but expect to work for your grade.

I love Dr. Wagner, hated his tests. He is a great guy, very helpful and I learned more than in any other class. I regret not taking 120 with him, golde sucks even though his tests seem easier. If you want to actually learn a whole lot, but are willing to work hard def take Wagner. Also get to know him, even if you hate him after the first test!

Dr. Wagner is by-far THE best professor I've had at Pitt! His lectures are interesting cuz he really knows his stuff. Dr. Wagner teaches science the way it should be taught! He is straightfoward and focuses on the concepts rather than the fluff. His tests are definitely challenging, but they are very fair. Take Dr. Wagner, just be sure you know the notes very thoroughly for the tests!

Overall, a pretty decent prof with a good personality. Wagner's exams are on the difficult side but definitely doable. However, I could not figure out for the life of me why a chem prof would expect his students to know the half rxns for batteries and something as vital, basic, and necessary as solubility rules.

Hands down this man is awesome. He is very fun to listen to and makes lecture more interesting with his enthusaism. One down side to him is that his tests can be difficult, but if you do the homework and go to class/recitation you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Excellent. Excellent. Excellent. Most enthusiastic chem professor I've ever had. His lectures are very interesting, and he illustrates things so clearly. His tests are extremely tough, and 2/3 of them killed my grade, but I still learned so much. Take him for Chem 2 definitely.

Dr. Wagner's the PERFECT example of how every professor should be: he's enthusiastic, can explain material to you so that you'd actually understand, & was always approachable for help if you had questions. I always felt a little "beat-up" leaving his exams-- they're tough, but they're VERY fair. Be willing to work hard. He makes it worthwhile!

Very helpful. Excellent teaching style. Kept the material interesting. I didn't have to take chem 120, but I knew that the class would be interesting, just like chem 110. Exams are hard, but if you come to class and ask questions, he will bump your grade up.

I thought that Dr. Wagner was a terrible professor, and I took him because of this site. He is very chatty in class, constantly wasting time on things that aren't related to what we're learning. His tests are also slapped together at the last minute. Don't be surprised if you find some big mistakes in them that cost you time and confidence!

Dr. Wagner is incredibly helpful. I came from a terrible professor for chem 1 and Dr. Wagner made chem so much more interesting and easy. Definitely take Dr. Wagner if you're taking chem 2.

Wagner ctually teaches chemistry, you really have to use the textbook very little/not at all except for homework questions. Tests are hard, so you need to know the material, but he teaches well.

Buy his lecture notes for 120, they will help greatly. Presents material in quick manner but is thorough. Easy to follow during lecture and lecture is definitely necessary because he does not teach from the book.

Dr. Wagner is a great professor and is very fair. I found his exams to be difficult but predictable... we knew exactly what kinds of questions to expect. My only complaint (and it's a pretty big one) are the constant mistakes on exams. It gets old after awhile.

Currently have Wagner for CHEM 0250. Easy to understand, going to class strongly suggested. He takes the formulas from the book and derives them in a simpler and more memorable format to use on the exams. The curve is insane right now, but may change depending on the students in the class.

He kinda brings the complicated things down to a level that is really easy to understand, yet still gets all the material taught. Actually trying to get in his chem 0120 class next sem. I definitely recommend taking his class!

Dr. Wagner really knows his chemistry. Make sure you buy his notes at the beginning of the semester, he uses overheads of them exactly how they appear in the notebook. There is opportunity for bonus points which is always nice. Make sure you do the homework, it actually helps a lot. I'd definitely recommend Dr. Wagner.

Not horrible, but not a very good teacher. He doesn't teach theory he only teaches practice. If you go to class you end up sitting as he teaches you nothing, rather he goes over example after example. You learn something, but not enough to pass without studying a lot on your own. I'm a chem major and i hope i never have him again.

I had Golde for chem 1, barely studied, and got an A, then worked so much harder in Wagner's chem 2 to just get a B. He's tough. However, he makes sure you know the material. He tends to speed through things in class though, so you need to always stay on top of material and not just cram right before a test or you'll be totally lost.

Great teacher! Really knows and loves Chemistry! Class is entertaining and it's pretty important to go to every class. Easy to talk to but tests are pretty hard, but he gives practice tests. Studying is a must. Really focuses on practical stuff and definitely doesn't teach algorithmically. Know your chemistry and you'll do fine!

Dr.Wagner was one of the best professors I've ever had. His notes are very helpful. The examples he gives are clear and help prepare you for the tests. He makes class fun with his corny jokes but doesn't waste time with random tangents. Tests are not that hard if you study his notes and quizzes. The book isn't very helpful for his class.

Dr. Wagner has a great personality and presents the material in an understandable manner- but when it comes to his tests, he purposely tries to trick you and they are hard. During the last test the girl next to me literally started to cry. He's a nice guy though, but take Martucci for Chem 1.

Wagner may have a great personality and a pretty face but he is not a very good teacher. You can buy his fill-in-the-blank lecture notes but he rarely fills in the blanks. My notes were crap and no use on the exams. I read the book and took notes to try to pass. The tests, quizzes, notes, and hw dont correlate with each other AT ALL!

Wagner is a great teacher. When I took Chem 110, the science center was being renovated, so we didn't have any demos, and I still enjoyed going to class. The quizzes are fairly easy, but the exams are hard. Everything is curved though. I would suggesting Wagner to anyone, hands down. Nice guy, and extremely helpful. Lots of extra credit too.

Dr. Wagner's class was fun to attend, he kept you laughing and smiling. He has his own notebook that you can purchase for like 15$ that is basically word for word to his lecture notes, which i did and didn't help me because I found writing my own notes is much more beneficial. Tests were apporximately 18-26 questions, fairly tricky.

Dr. Wagner is in charge of the Pchem 1 lab. It is extremely disorganized. The lab manual sucks (he "wrote" it) there are typos everywhere, pages missing, and no equations showing you how to do calculations. Also, he doesn't inform students of information until the last second. Worst lab I've ever taken.

Wagner is a good teacher and really does well to explain the concepts. Very willing to help you and a really nice guy. Great curve which actually reduced my stress level by a lot. 85 was an A-

Funny guy, but gives really hard tests and quizzes. Has his own lecture notebook that I advise filling out completely during and after lecture as these are the type of problems he will assign. Doesn't use the book at all really, so don't read it otherwise you'll confuse yourself. Very helpful personally and cares about his students.

He is actually a good professor. He does expect a lot out of you so be sure to work hard. He is not as terrifying as everyone is making him out to be. As long as you study you will be fine. He is also really nice in office hours and loves to help his students. Like I said, just study the material and understand the concepts and you can get an A.

He's an amazing professor! I absolutely hated chemistry in high school and Chem 1, but he actually makes the material for Chem 2 interesting and understandable. He's also very helpful and will clear up any problems you have if you go to his office hours. He's a very nice guy, and he cares about his students doing well. I highly recommend him!

Dr. Wagner is an amazing professor. He really cares about how well students do and he is super approachable. He makes chemistry interesting and fun. Classes aren't even boring like other chem classes. Definitely recommend taking him! It's a hard course but he makes it manageable!

Wagner is a nice guy and very helpful in office hours. He sometimes has really confusing notes and doesn't explain why you're doing certain things. Tests are tricky and some problems aren't what you learned in class. Lectures get a little boring. Homeworks, Computational "Labs", partner Computational project, and 4 exams (final isn't cumulative).

This class was horrible. One of the most unnecessarily difficult class I have ever HAD to take. The class is worth 3 credits but should be worth 6, solely based on the amount of work you have to do. The lecturer has nearly illegible writing. Organic Chemistry should be a prereq.

Please don't take CHEM0710. Wagner is a nice and knowledgeable guy who really just wants to teach chemistry and is pretty good at it, but the expectations of the class FAR surpass the amount that he actually teaches you. Also the lab is death. I would take him if he was teaching another class but CHEM0710 is a sure way to an early grave

Wagner is definitely not an easy A but this is an honors course so you shouldn't come in expecting that. He holds his students to a higher standard than most and the amount of work he assigns reflects that. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. I frequently wish I had taken regular Gen Chem 1 because Dr. Wagner expects you to know most of the background concepts before having taken the class. If you don't, you're in for a whole lot of time spent just for CHEM 0170. The labs, prelabs, and lab reports are terrible.

Dr. Wagner is legitimately my favorite human ever. His lectures are engaging, thoughtful, and I have learned more in one lecture with him then I did in a whole semesterregular gen chem I. However, this class does require you to PUT in the work. Dr. Wagner will work with you in order to help you succeed, but you must take the initiative.

pchem labs are the worst part about being a chem student. pchem 1 lab is mandatory, but take the biosc option so u dont have to take pchem 2 lab. ridiculously hard grader, went harder on lab bc it was zoom. never told us directly what he wanted, the concepts + math was so hard and it truly takes 2 ppl over 2 weeks to finish a single lab report.

Dr. Wagner is wonderful. He is available outside of class and truly wants students to excel. However, this class dominates your schedule because lab reports are made from scratch and there is a lot of content on exams. Honors chem is no joke. Fast paced with harder content and more work. Lab reports are the worst part for me, but he has a generous curve. Great lecturer and passionate, but doing well in AP chem is a must for this class. You will have to put in a lot of work but it's worth it if you love chem. This may crush GPAs of pre meds though so be warned.

Eugene's honors chem is hard, but he's an excellent, engaging lecturer who cares A LOT about his students. He'll be there to help you through it; he knows his class is tough. That being said, listen to the warnings about 710 if you havent taken AP chem. It will make your life a lot harder, but you can get through it and it will be worth it!

Dr. Wagner is by far the best professor I've had at Pitt . He goes above and beyond to help his students and always makes time if you need extra help. Honors chem is extremely hard and having never taken AP Chem made it even worse. This class is a big time commitment due to lab reports. There is a very generous curve which helps your grade A TON.

he answer emails extremely fast and is super fun in class. There are hard weekly quizzes in recitation, usually averaging a 5/10 every week. There are 2 midterms and a final, which also only average around a 60%. He offers small assignments after each exam though to get back some points missed. Considering some of the other professors, Wagner is a great choice for CHEM0110. He publishes fill-in-the-blank notes for each unit, and his lectures are generally easy to follow. Take Dr. Wagner. Best Chem professor at Pitt, and the best I've ever had. Real genuine guy, really cares about his students. I hated general chemistry and was god awful at it, but Wagner was still my favorite prof Ive had at Pitt. Was in the poor mans office asking question more days than not but he was always more than willing to help. I could not retain what he was saying and still thought he was an amazing professor, so if you are half decent at chemistry you're set.

His lectures are so hard to follow and this class is very lecture heavy. You have two exams and the final and they are worth the majority of your grade. He curves the overall final grade but barely. Nice and funny dude tho outside of class and responds fast and he bumped me up 4% to pass so i love him for that.

Dr. Wagner is a very nice person, but BEWARE of UHC Chem 0710. It is 10 times more work than regular general chemistry one. Dr. Wagner is a tough grader, but he does curve the class.. barely. I barely passed and taking honors chem was the worst choice. He is a VERY caring and nice professor, but it is tough. Be ready if you take CHEM 0710.

Dr. Wagner is a great professor. The tests are really hard though ( like really hard), but there is so many opportunities for office hours and extra help. The one downfall is definitely how much work the labs are. My partner and I probably spent over 3-4 hours on every lab. With pre-labs and writing workshops u feel like u are always doing chem

Dr. Wagner was my favorite teacher this semester. He was funny and kept us engaged the whole time. His material is difficult and labs are a lot of work for this class so be prepared to put in the effort.

Dr. Wagner was an amazing lecturer and this class will definitely push you so be ready for a challenge. Class is curved but don't rely on the curve. The lab is difficult and lab reports are very time-consuming. Go to office hours to understand concepts and use the organic chemistry tutor on youtube.

Dr. Wagner is amazing and I really enjoyed his lectures. I definitely learned a lot in his class and he was super accommodating and willing to curve grades/scores. His tests are really hard however and cover things the other Chem 1 profs don't even cover. Great teacher, but topics may be covered too quick, especially if you are new to chem.

Dr. Wagner is a nice person, but not a good teacher. His exams are extremely difficult and averages were F's on every exam throughout the semester, with no curve. His grading scale is much less curved than other Chem 1 professors. He teaches honors chem so he expects way too much out of the regular chemistry courses. DON'T BE DECEIVED BY HIS RATING

The class is definitely hard but if you enjoy the subject you won't regret taking this class. Dr. Wagner is the best prof I have had and is really passionate about what he teaches. He really cares about the students as well. The class is scaled but the exams are really tough.

While he was a very nice professor, his expectations for a chem 1 class were way too high. A lot of things taught were higher level chem, or not even chem at all. I'm sure he would be an interesting professor for those that have taken AP chem in high school, but for those that are relatively new to college chem I would advise that you steer clear.

A really tough professor. I studied for his class day in and day out and could barely get above a 65 on my quizzes. The questions involve molecules that don't exist and the most difficult exceptions are tested on our quizzes without ever going over it. A quiz every single week. Don't expect to get above a 60 on tests (60 was the class average).

Lectures were very simple but did not reflect the quizes and tests at all. The homework was so awful to do since he didn't release the answer keys to them until after our quizzes (which were also much harder than they should be) and he also didn't give any review material which made the tests feel much harder. The Notes packet also sucked

Dr. Wagner was a great lecturer: one of the most engaging chem lecturers I have ever had. However, sometimes his lectures oversimplified concepts for the exams, which were hard. They are way harder than the other classes exams for sure, however he does make up for it with the curve at the end. Take him if you can put in time into the class to study

His class was insanely hard compared to other Chem 1 classes. He covered a lot of material that is not part of the Chem 1 curriculum and wasn't always chemistry. There's few things graded and in recitation there often isn't any time to ask questions. He is a nice guy but I wouldn't recommend taking his class, especially if you didn't take AP Chem.

Wagner's class was very challenging and as someone with a really weak chem background, I had to work/study 10-20 hours a week outside of class to do well. I'm glad I took the class because I feel like I learned a lot and developed a lot of good study habits, but I was very stressed all semester. I recommend going to office hours, they helped a lot

Class was hard compared to other Chem 1 classes and notes aren't readily available. He covers topics which are not always relating to Chemistry. You could know the concept and still do bad because he makes the questions very hard. No practice exams to prepare for tests. Great personality but lectures are hard to comprehend.

Eugene is a great teacher. His lectures were kinda boring but prepared you well for the test if you can take good notes. His test were a large part of your grade and were a reasonable difficulty. He really cares that his students improve and curves the grades at the end of the semester which helps a lot.

Very nice man. He is always willing to answer questions over email. Tests are pretty hard (harder than most other professors), but he is a good lecturer. He doesn't give a lot of practice problems so you are pretty blind going into exams. You will definitely learn a lot tho.

Wagner is a great prof and person, but his expectations for chem 1 are very high. His exams were difficult and had curveball questions. Be prepared to put your everything into the class and not receive the grade you want. Consider taking a different prof for chem 1 if you want to save your gpa. Regardless you will learn a lot.

Entertaining lectures and amazing TAs. BUT lectures and notes were disorganized and difficult to follow, and it's impossible to make up missed lecture materials. Grade was almost entirely based on three exams. Lab reports required a huge amount of time and self-teaching. Would not recommend taking a curved class with honors pre-med students.

Wagner cares about this class and his students; however, beware of honors chem 1. The lectures are extremely disorganized and hard to follow. Even with a strong background in AP chem, this class was a struggle. Most topics that were covered were not typical of gen chem. Dr. Wagner is a really nice professor, but as someone with little background in chemistry, taking honors chem 1 was a bad idea. Like others said, topics that aren't typically covered in chem 1 were covered, and lectures were disorganized and hard to follow. Labs were crazy with the amount of work you need to put into it. Not worth it for a premed.

I think he is super funny and his teaching style can work for some people. The thing that drove me out of his course was when I was clearly struggling and I went to office hours, as I had done poorly on a previous quiz. He and multiple UTAs laughed in my face when I told them what I had gotten on the quiz which I thought was extremely rude.

Had him for chem 1 and his exams were incredibly difficult. The exams were mostly open ended and for quizzes you were only allowed 15 mins to finish. He skips over fundamental basics having assumed that you already know them. He is a nice guy but as far as a chem professor it was very discouraging compared to my experience with other chem courses.

Wagner is awful for the P Chem 1 lab, not only are they not accommodating to unforeseen circumstances they are ridiculous when it comes to grading, having to write full lab reports by yourself and then receiving less than a 50% on assignments that take near 30 hours to complete is ridiculous and the grading is an actual embarrassment

My favorite professor at Pitt by far. Very accessible and caring in and out of class. Exams and quizzes are tough but the class is on a curve so doing well is possible. Lab reports are the only things I would complain about because they take a long time and can be difficult to understand. Overall a great experience.

Loved him as a person. So easy to talk to and have great advice. However, if you aren't familiar with chem stay far away. This was my first chem class ever and he seemed to just assume everyone there had experience in chem and skipped over a lot of fundamental basics. Impossible to catch up if you don't have prior knowledge. My next prof was better

Wagner is a nice person and I learned a lot from his very engaging and often funny lectures. However, the class was extremely stressful and very difficult. There's a lot of homework (in the form of lab reports typically) and the exams and quizzes are super difficult to do well on. I wouldn't recommend this class if you have a poor chem background.

Only pre-meds, chem majors, and chem/biomedical engineers should take this course. Wagner is an extremely nice professor, but there is too much difficult material with not enough time to learn it. This course is test heavy (50% of grade), and the tests he writes are incredibly difficult. If you do not have an amazing chem background, stay away.

Do not take this class if you do not have a strong background in chem. Dr. Wagner definitely cares about his students, but the notes can be pretty disorganized and we were expected to have a lot of background knowledge in taking the class. I loved this man!! So nice to look at during lecture. Oh yeah and he's also a very good professor. Very easy to access outside of class and teaches in a very understandable way. Exams are hard but if you like chem take this class! There is a lot of homework (like hours worth of work) in the form of lab reports so be prepared. Coolest car on campus!

Really fun professor, and very easy to talk to. He's really helpful and accessible outside of class. Do not take if you don't really enjoy chemistry, or you will not like this class. Not because of Wagner, but because of how much time the class takes outside of class. The exams are difficult, and count for 60% of the grade.

I took honors gen chem with Dr. Wagner my freshman year and it was rough. He is a great professor and very caring and engaging but the tests ARE VERY HARD. And you have to write 5-6 page lab reports for honors lab. If you like chemistry take him, if you are premed and just want to learn and get a good grade do not take him.

Great person, loves his job. Class is demanding, I'm talking 6-10 hour lab reports each week with a pre lab then right after. Exams are insanely difficult. There is a slight curve though but still if you don't like Chem, or aren't premed I wouldn't take this course. 48%ish of ur grade are exams. Also quizzes in recitation every week! Uta were great

Since it is an honors course, it is definitely more difficult than a gen chem course. But, if you are a chem major or pre-med, taking Dr. Wagner is definitely worth it. Your grade is test heavy and you will spend a lot of time doing lab reports, but your effort pays off in the end. Connect with him as well, he is a great person!

His lectures are very informative, but you have to pay attention the whole time because the exams only consist of things covered in the lecture. Also, a lot of prior knowledge is required, but the UTA and Dr.Wagner are always there to help so don't be afraid to ask.

This will very super hard if you don't have any chem background (IB, AP, etc.). The lab work is very heavy (5-6 pages a week) and grading for them can be slow. Wagner is cares about his students and chem (plus he nice to look at). You will learn a lot of extra (cool) material, but if you don't care about that and just want the grade take gen chem.

Dr. Wagner & the TA were amazing! The 6-week lab over the summer was definitely demanding but Wagner made the lab experience enjoyable. If you need anything, talk to him or the TA; they won't bite. With only 4 students, he encouraged us to submit reports in pairs. Flexible on report deadlines due to the shorter time frame. Highly recommend!

Great professor with great lectures! Professor Wagner is extremely caring and accessible and is just all around a great guy. He was willing to meet with a lot of us one-on-one for help with the material. He is a fair grader and offers perfects on homework as a grade boost. However honors chem is more difficult than non-honors so keep that in mind.

I came into this class with a strong chemistry background (AP Chem, high school ochem). Quizzes and tests are difficult and lab reports are often lengthy. Wagner is an excellent teacher who is easily accessible via office hours or email. Would recommend this class if you're willing to work, honors is a lot harder than regular genchem.
