She clearly enjoys art history, and luckily also really enjoys teaching. She's energetic and engaging. Definitely worth taking her class.
Really helpful. You can depend on her lecture for an A. She really enjoyes teaching, too.
She is a wonderful professor. I have met very few people as passonate about their work as she is. She is clear and makes art history easy to understand. This was my first time taking a collage course and she made my experence a absolute joy. Thank you !!
She is the best professor I've taken. One you take one of her classes, you will take more courses she offers. Just perfect! she knows her subject matter and teachers in such a way to motivate every student.
The class is really boring but easy. A lot of people fall asleep (lecture hall). The test are all based on her lectures and slides which she does every day. No papers are do just 3 or 3 tests.
Though sometimes repetitive, she is amazing! You MUST make flash cards for the art. If you do them yourself and go through them once a day you'll get an easy A. Don't worry about the reading b/c she won't test you on things she has not lectured on.
Best teacher I've had thus far. She enjoys teaching and it shows. she is very clear in lecture and her tests are based on her lectures and are fair. She has a fun sense of humor and a great personality. However, there is not much time for Q/A.
She's fun! Interesting images and she seems to share the same passion for Leonardo as myself. Only 3 tests and if you go to class every day they're really easy. Only bad thing is she's late to class almost every day!
perfect! Notice how many returning students sign up for her other classes as well? She has a small cult following because she is a fantastic teacher. I learned so much after taking a couple of her classes
Good teacher. Makes the class very interest, but slightly difficult for lazy students. Just pay attention, take some notes and you will do well. I screwed around the whole time and i ditched atleast 15 times, but i got a C. Very freindly and understanding
Great teacher, passionate about her job. Listen to lectures and easy A
One of the most insightful, friendly teachers I have had. She loves the subject and knows it, and it shows. A great class, but prepare to STUDY!!!
She is one of the best.Knows the material too well and is very clear. You can pass her class without a book, if you go to class everyday and study her handout. All the tests are from her lecture and handout. She is fun, too and very knowledgeable.
One of the best teachers Valley has. Most of her students keep coming back even to the classes that they don't need.
She's passionate about art and teaching it. She's an easy A if you show up to class and take good notes. Her exams are based on her lectures. You could get away with not buying the books, if your notes are good.
NOT ONE BAD THING! :) :) :) :-)
This is my second time to take her class. Because of her, art became interesting subject. She explains background of art and history. She is very nice and nicest one at Valley. I would not mind taking another her course even I do not need it.
I love her!! She is the bomb!
This is my first class with her, I find her to be great! She has so much to share! So much info on art methods and history! I like her class allot! Art history can be boring some times but she is good and funny. You have to take her class :)
eazy a by just attending
Best teacher ever! Can't get enough of her lectures. If you like art, you will love her. If you are not into art, you will be after you take her classes! Her knowledge is fascinating.
The art history class was an interesting class for me because she made the topics easy to understand. The tests were multiple choice and were based on lectures.Great Teacher.
I loooooooved her class. I will missed her. she makes her class very intersting. she talks tooo much tough. show up for her class b/c 80% of the questions are based on her lectures. Some students only showed up for tests and failed. show up and you will do fine. Take her :)
Don't take her if you're not an art major because she is BORING and she has the worst communication skills. Her tests were easy though!
Good teacher easy to understand. Attend class, take notes you'll pass with no problems.
Great Teacher! She made art history interesting!!! I had LOTS of fun!!! Highly Recommeded!!!
Very nice and adorable teacher
no book required, can't get any easier than her class
she is awesome
The BEST!
Excellent Classes. Sumnik-Levins builds a valuable foundation in all of her classes revealing the key to understanding all cultures is to examine the art they create. Sounds simple, but it is profound when you consider how knowledge impacts your compassion and your ability to reach out to others.
I know that I am learning in her class because I go home talking about what she has taught. She is a bit all over in leacture, talks to much, and moves around alot. I think she is a good teacher, take her. If you take good notes you don't need a book.
She has passion! A great teacher, well informed.
Keeps you til the last second but is very explanitory. NO homework, book not needed, helpful handouts, three tests for entire semester with e/c oppurtunities. Talks all period w/out a break.
Full of Art History knowledge. Easy tests if you study. Don't sit near the projector (it's loud).
Mrs. Sumnik-Levins is one of a kind. She is eager to help students do well, she has a wealth of knowledge on art history. I never was bored, her lectures keep you on the edge of your seat. An opportunity that should not be missed.
Amazing teacher to take! She transformes you to the era she is teaching with a lot of examples and helpful information. If you attend her class and take good notes it would be a class you will never forget. Very good teacher! The best in Art History!!!!!!!
No matter what she gets paid, it isn't enough. She inspires me to scholarship. Write down everything she says and memorize every word. Make flash cards. You'll get straight A's if you do this. Turn off your phone, don't idly chat and make noise, or she will not teach.
Great teacher. Very interesting lectures. Before taking this class I never thought I would be interested in Art. I recommend her to everyone.
Not your typical boring art history classes with all focus on technique and speculative mystification. She puts art into its historical context versus trying to falsely analyze it through "the mood it connotes" and how freakin' profound it is. I've taken a lot of art his, BS since her at UCSB, blah!
Her lectures were very extended and boring. I fell asleep most of the time..but she's a pretty cool teacher and I passed her class with an A..she hooked it up fo real!
If you take her class be prepared to get bored. Her lectures are long and boring and after a while you just want to fall asleep. Her tests are easy to pass if you study and memorize the paintings. She's nice though. She never misses class.
Wow, where to start. This woman is an absolutely brilliant professor. Her knowledge of art history is limitless, and her vocabulary and diction make every lecture fascinating. She brings a rather dry, for some people, subject to life, and I could not imagine learning about it from anybody else.
intersting class, lecture's were fun to sit through, you must go to class or you won't do good on the exam's,Sumnik-Levins is a great person, understanding, interesting
Great professor! Loves her subject and is very knowledgable. Be prepared to take lots of notes, as the class is strictly lecture. Missing class not recommended! Pay attention to anything she repeats, as it will show up on the test!
cool class, teacher gives great lectures, interesting stuff... she's a bit flakey, never on time and is kinda forgetful but its not too difficult to pull a good grade and she really does make art history interesting.
She is awesome, like a walking art dictionary. And the hot too! She is one of the few professors on campus that will go out of her way to help you. Prepare to take lots of notes, her tester based on her lectures and art work. What a wonderful experience!
Excellent teacher! 3 easy tests in the semester based on the notes. I highly recomend her!. I did not know art was going to be so interesting. TAKE HER. THE BEST!
lecture , easy tests, lots of girls so its cool going to class
This teacher lectures in a very sweet way. It is almost like we are all children and she is reading out of a book. I love Art History and I loved having her as a teacher. I got all good grades!= A's
She is a wonderful teacher! I loved her class and the subject. She's very clear, helpful and covers a lot. If you pay attention and take notes, then it's easy to get an A. I recommend her to everyone because she was so fun and interesting.
Great professor. Knows and loves her material. Over prepares you for her tests. 30 of the forty plus questions are identifying slides (artist, title, date, medium, significance of work). If you show up and listen it's an easy "A". Make 3 x 5 notecards with the above information and start studying them right away and you'll ace the tests.
BEST teacher..sooo SWEET.I enjoyed her class to the max(sum.05)Test multiple choice-study from handout, take notes & make flashcards for terms, attendance very important(if u do,expect an A) She will cover material in detail, if she doesn't discuss it then she won't hold u responsible 4 it. Loves her field and u will find yourself feeling the same.
First: Don't buy the book. Study every she says. She's a scholar. Ask her a question and she either knows, or ADMITS she doesn't know and then FINDS out. She gets to the bottom of everything, and teaches only what's essential. She's obsessive, hates to steer off course or veer from the lecture. No beeping, ringing, crinkling of wrappers, talking.
easy teacher...interesting material and fairly simple tests...if you attend every lecture, you dont have to buy a book or even prepare for the tests...just make sure you know the art dates and you score an easy A.
Easy A but I just could not stand her!
Wonderful Professor. Will try and see ways to help struggling students. I hope she's doing fine.
I took this class in the summer and it was very easy. All she did was lecture us, but it was interesting, and her passion for art made it especially so. I was afraid of the tests, but they were incredibly easy. I got only one wrong in each test. Most of the questions come from slides. This class is an easy A. There were 3 tests and no assignments.
She's the Best and cute too...
Very good teacher. Strongly Recommended.
Mrs Sumnik-Levins is passionate about art. Her lectures are fascinating & very detailed. She presents the info so that you understand the evolution art goes through. She make a point about each concept and how it relates to modern times. Very helpful and fun.I highly recommend her art history classes.Tests are easy if you study guide. She's the BEST!
again one of the, if not the, besto professors ever, not only she is willing to help you but her tests are easy and her lectures extremely interesting...one of my favorites !
great teacher, she is very clear on what she is looking for on the test. all you have to do is study (memorize)and youll be fine.
very interesting lectures. if you memorize the pictures youll do fine. she is nice and her tests are straight forward, not hard or triky. she will help if your strugling.
Great teacher shes very nice and is willing to help , her lectures are very interesting. Tests are easy if you study and memorize the guides. I recommend this professor!
I thought I was in for a 'filler' class but I ended up going back for more and wishing I could change my major. This stuff can be incredibly interesting. P.S. The book is reasonably important but it's all about the in class notes.
she is a great teacher, she has so much knowledge. VERY interesting. I didnt even buy the book for the class and I got an "A". All you have to do is show up and pay attention to what she says. Its not hard and she is not boring. She tells you things that are very interesting. Just take good notes and use your camera phone to take pic's of the slide
Very interesting class and lectures! Tests are easy as long as you memorize the dates well ull be fine. I wasnt too interested in ancient Egypt but now I cant wait till I go to Cairo! Amazing teacher!
WOW...what a boring class, i take naps during her lectures, i cant believe someone could make art so freakin boring...ohh and she makes jokes during class that are so not funny and she is usualy the only one laughing. Unless your interested in Art, dont take her, take music instead.
Can be boring sometimes, but you learn a lot if you pay attention to the lectures. Barely have to read the book and the tests are pretty easy, esp. if you attend class. She's super nice and is there to help you at all times.
Art 105 is Asia art history. It is complicated but this Professor manages to teach simplified essentials and throws in fascinating details. She is a lot of fun. I’ve learned so much stuff I didn’t know. I love this class!
Oh my God! Take a pillow to her class because you are sure to fall asleep. She goes on non-stop for three hours with the lights off talking gibberish.
Love this teacher she is honestly the best teacher I have had at Valley, supportive and encouraging, lectures are not suppose to be fun sit up front and take good notes.
The most boring class I'v ever taken in my life. She is nice, but the class is easy and awful.
Oh for gods sake, it's an art history lecture class. If you can't take a lecture class take basket weaving 101 for your art requirement. She's a nice lady, who loves what she does and wants you to love it too. She's a bit scatter brained but if you like art and history, that's a good thing because she'll talk about things related to te subject but
if you want your grade to be based on two test scores then Good Luck
she is great teacher. her class is not very hard to pass. so take her she is great
Easy to learn by her way of 'history' lessons with the art. Tests are pretty straightforward. Memorize the dates and periods--that's about it. Attend the lectures if you want to learn the material. Very helpful for your understanding of the material. I enjoyed the class.
easy class. she's nice and her lectures are really interesting. her tests are very easy if you memorize the slide ID's with the dates and periods and materials. you need to attend lecture in order to pass the tests. unorganized at times though.
Great teacher! She is very passionate about art. You can learn a lot from her but, if you take her class you must attend the class to pass. Also memorize the slides, facts, etc. A lot of memorization. She cares about her students. I would def suggest taking her class but, it can be dull at times.
Wow, what can I say. This is the best Professor I have ever had. She has changed my view of art. I am now minoring in Art History because of her passionate teaching abilities. She has changed my life and I am just so thrilled I get to take one more of her classes to meet my pre-req's. RECOMMENDED!
Professor Sumnik, is an asset to LAVC. I learned more about art in her class than in my painting class. she is brilliant teacher and dedicated to her profession as well as her students. two thumps up!
Best professor of Art History, social and anthropological ideas also included.
The best teacher still at LAVC. She can lecture without notes for long periods of time because she loves the subject she teaches. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she stays current in her field. There is a lot of information, but study and you will get an "A". The class is large.
This is the best professor that you can take at LAVC. This is my 4th class with her, and she not only explains things really clearly, she also gives great essay feedback and takes time after class to talk to people and answer questions. If you study, her tests are easy. She is just an overall amazing person, and I really love her!
this teacher is great. she is very helpful and will do anything to help. she explains well and tests are all in her class notes. the class can get boring sometimes but just pay attention and try to enjoy it or else you wont survive in the class. tests arent easy but you can get an A if you try hard!
A Wonderful teacher who loves to teach! For anyone who likes Art History or is about to take it for the first time. She's the teacher to take. She's really funny to without even knowing it.
I have found the Art History 109 class to be one of the best informative and interesting classes I've ever had. She is the best professor and knows a lot about the history of art. The best professor!
She really good. After the first day you're gonna think you're in for a ride because she looks strict and talks really fast, but she's reall, REALLY clear on what's gonna be on the test and that's all you're gonna be graded on. Only thing that sucks is she almost never lets you out early....never.
the best professor for art history. take good notes, go to class, and memorize the slides and a good grade is inevitable!!!
A smart lady, a wonderful lecturer. Belongs in a university, not at LAVC. Tests are easy if you attend lectures, take decent notes, and study slides/handouts. Very organized. Very articulate. Nice lady. Sense of humor. Approachable. You will not regret taking her class!
I found the class to be very informative and the lecture material very helpful for the tests. She is a wonderful professor and is very helpful in helping students to understand the history of art.
Excellent professor! I can't stop taking art history courses now. She knows her stuff & makes it so fascinating to learn about. Yes, you do have to take plenty of notes & at times she does move fast, but it's worth it. There is some slide memorization, but if you take it seriously... you'll do fine. 2 thumbs way up!
The subject was very interesting. She does a great job with explaining the meaning and all the hidden points of the artworks, you'll never look at a painting the same way again. The book was somewhat helpful, most of the material she covers in class is what's on the test. Also, you must memorize a certain number of atrworks for the test.
SHE'S THE BEST IVE HAD AT LAVC,THERE SHOULD BE MORE TEACHERS LIKE HER!!!!!!!!. I'm always excited to go to class. She makes you want to learnb/c of her, before i was undecided about my major and now I want to major in art history. She has a GREAT personality. She has a good energy about her. She's understanding. SHE ROCKS!!!!!
One of the best teachers at LAVC! Take good notes and read the book on what is relevent to what she lectures to get an A.
One of the best teachers I have had at LAVC. Her class is strictly lecture, so no homework what-so-ever. Test are a breeze as long as you attend the class meeting or do well studying on your own. Will definitely take for another Art class.
Always a lil late to class but gives ample break time... her lectures are informative and she really explains and has great stories. Great for people really interested in art. Very knowledgable, helpful. Just keep your cell phones turned OFF!!! Loved her & will sign up for anything else she teaches.
I seriously really enjoyed this class. Ms. Sumnik-Levins is so cute, funny and quirky. She is truly passionate about the subject, her passion is a bit contagious too. I thought she was funny contrary to what other student say that think they are so cool. The class is not easy, listen closely, take good notes!
I recoment to take Mrs. Levins's class to those students who really are interested in learning Art History. She is fun, interesting to listen to, fare & gives a lot of and, most importantly, useful information.I learned a lot in this class. She is the best teacher I have ever had. She is one of those instructors who really cares about her students.
Great Teacher, she makes small jokes of herself and help out ppl that ask questions and try to make things clear if they still dont get wut shes saying.
Eugenia is a great teacher. She is always late to class though, and that is a bit annoying.
Excellent professor. You must attend lectures and take notes if you want to do well. Syllabus includes all definitions and plates needed for tests, which are 80% book and 20% lecture. Not a hard class if you do the work (read), but don't expect to miss class or goof off and pass. I would and will take her for any art history class she teaches.
I took this prof back in 1990 and 91. She was the bomb back then and I'm glad to see things haven't changed. I loved going to class because of her. Learned so much, she always has a good attitude and makes the class like going to the movies. I miss you... I always recommend you to all my friends for Art History. If only all profs could be like her.
This prof. just LOVES to hear herself speak! When asked a question.. she will usually avoid answering because she hates classroom interaction during her lectures. She made the subject unbearable! A lot of heavy note taking necessary to do well in the class. Don't recommend.
There are 2 or 3 tests. No homework. MUST attend class to listen to lecture. I only listened to the lecture, never cracked open the book. Got an A. Just study the slides and terms. I took her again for 102, and had a test Tuesday. Only studied for 10 minutes and got an A on the exam. You'll do well IF you like learning about Egypt, Rome and Greeks.
One of the BEST prof at valley. What is she doing here? She's definitly UC material. Can be boring at times, but she's really funny. Talk to her, and trust me, you'll love her. Great personality. Don't buy the book, waste of money. Listen to the lecture and study the handouts and you'll get an A. Easy class if you're interested in Art History.
One of the best professors at Valley without a doubt! Lectures can be tedious at times but her zeal for the subject makes it interesting. Really funny, approachable, understanding. No need to buy the book just attend lectures. Only 3 exams. Easy A
Oh she is incredible. I wish she's teach something other than art history. she is absolutely a wonderful and knowledgeable professor. She makes the silliest jokes but its really a great professor and cares about the students. Will help u with anything.
Just like Art 101 with her, Art 102 was no different- A BREEZE! Coolest teacher, easy test, no homework (ever), understanding, however, lectures all class long. I didnt really care much for art but she has made me enjoy it a bit more. I would definitely recommend taking her!
GREAT teacher. One of the EASIEST classes @ Valley! You MUST takes notes, but it's really easy, and made me love art history! Take her!
LOTS OF LECTURE..LECTURE..LECTURE..She should be teaching in UCLA..I thought 3 hours of lecture is boring but Her class is very interesting...Easy A or B..VERY DETAILED..I love this art teacher
Wonderful! Makes it so interesting, class is all about Lecture- take Good notes & their is slide memorization for the tests. Study your lecture notes & slides and you'll do fine. I love her class and continue to take every Art History class she offers. Every summer, she offers a Euro Trip to her students, when I get the money, I fully plan to go
I never really knew anything about art history before taking her class, she makes the subject so interesting, she definitely very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject.Don't leave valley without taking one of her class, she is one of the best professors. Just take really good notes and memorize all your slides and you will do really good.
Very good professor. No homework. Just take notes on lectures. She gives study guides for every test. Fair grading. Made the subject really interesting. Take her for art history. In case you want to know, I got an A.
She's extremely helpful and flexible. She's a nice teacher. I recommend people should take her class.I think she should keep doing what she's doing.
SHE IS AWESOME. SIT IN THE FRONT, AND PAY ATTENTION THEN YOU DON'T NEED THE SUPER EXPENSIVE BOOK. SHE IS A GREAT TEACHER WHO TRULY HAS PASSION FOR WHAT SHE DOES, WHICH IS VERY HARD TO FIND. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!
very passionate teacher. prety straightforward. take lots of notes and make flash cards they help. memorizing is key to acing the tests.
I had no interest what so ever in this class, but it is a GE for USC... I was going to drop the class after getting a bad grade on my first test..But luckily she let our class drop a test, and I did good on the remaining 2. I got an A. trick is to memorize the slides. notes arent that important, but just pay attention. You dont need gardners
Their are many people who dont like her class because they are not interested in art. I was not interesed in art until i took her class, she is one of the best teachers at lavc, you are fortunate to take her class, i wish there were more teachers like her!!!! She cares about giving her students information
She is a great teacher!! I was not interested in taking art history at all but needed it and I'm so glad I did! No homework and never had to read the book. 3-4 scantron tests that are very straightforward, just memorize dates and details about artwork and review lecture notes. I highly recommend taking this class even if you don't need it!!
she was great at first I got a 96 and 93 from my first and second tests. the final I don;t know what I got but my grade is B now. though when I checked I got most of the answers right. I don;t know why she put me B
i don;t wanna say anything bad about her because she was very nice and funny and i did get an "A" but the class was boring for me because i had no and have never had interest in art so that may be the reason why i thought the class was boring.
She is truly dedicated to teaching, a great professor. I never liked art, but after her class I have a better understanding of it. All you really have to do is memorize your slides and study your notes to get an A. Her lectures are long and you will have to take good notes, but she is constantly reviewing the material throughout her lectures.
Awesome professor! loved her from the time i took Art 101. have taken many classes with her and am very happy. Barely have to use the book, just for the pictures. Just go to lecture and take notes. Very touchy with cell phones, put them on silent or turn them off. Very easy class, easy A if you memorize the handout she gives you.
great teacher! the information that is learned is very interesting. make sure to right great notes.
This professor is great. She gives you the answers to the test. You have memorize the art slides and take good notes. Shes very strict of her electronic policy so make sure you turn off cellphones, ipods etc so else she will kick you out. I recommend this professor.
Awesome teacher!, very easy calss if you take good notes, plus she reviews everything in her own wayand she gives you all the material for the tests, all you need to do is memorize it. Shes a great teacher, extremely clear and strict with her absolutely no electronic devices policy so turn them off before you even step in the building.
Very GOOD teacher explains everything well. Its simple pay attention, study and and you will be fine!!! Simple as that.
if art history is your thing this class will work for you..you will learn material regardless...there is a lot of information given quickly. A lot of memory is used on images..myself I will never take her again ...way to much talking, HOwever great teacher for those who are into art history
By far the best teacher I have had at LAVC. Pay attention and take good notes. Make sure you turn off your cell phones unless you talk to her about an important call. Very understanding. Funny and interesting to boot. I am definitely taking her again, guess getting a 99% in the class helps, but I studied hard for it.
Her specialty is in the Fiji Islands and art of that region, but is very good at what she does. I had Art history classes at CSUN (What a bore there), She had me so interested in the subject that I took 4 more classes! You will do great in class if you do: 1)Study, 2) Learn the slide list, 3)DONT use your phone to text or play 4)be pleasant!
Hands down the best professor at Valley. Her lectures are interesting, clear and to the point. Doesn't bother with BS and tells you exactly what to study for for the exam. Tests are based on lectures so attendance is a must. Extremely helpful and extremely nice. You can really tell that she is passionate about what she teaches and actually cares.
Best teacher! Love her!
She was awesome, and her tests weren't too bad. You just have to memorize some information about the slides she shows in class. Overall she was very nice, very funny, and very helpful! I would highly recommend her for anyone who needs to take an Art class. Just don't use your cell phone in class, because that kinda annoys her..lol. =)
She was awesome, and her tests weren't too bad. You just have to memorize some info about the slides she shows in class. Overall she was very nice, very funny, and very helpful! I got a B, so I would highly recommend her for anyone who needs to take an Art history class. Just don't use your cell phone in class, because that kinda annoys her.lol. =)
Easy A! Take even if you're not in love with art history (GPA booster). I didn't find the class too interesting- but I did learn a lot of things about art I didn't know. Honors students need to write a few papers (and she's a tough grader), but luckily the tests are so easy that you can still get an A, even with poor grades on the papers. TAKE HER!
Class was pretty easy but had its boring moments. Tends to get off subject at times. Sometimes feels like info overload. Took Honors and had to write 5 essays, which I regret because she is a tough grader! (got an A in Eng Honors so didnt get that). Memorize slides and you'll be fine.
Yes she has alot of energy and her class is pretty easy. But at times she will snap. So be careful of her temper. Sometimes people seem nice but once you get know them its a whole different story.
Almost ten years later, her influence on my education is immeasurable.
She is someone who has a lot of personality but she seems nice but she is not always that way.
Such a sweet lady. The subject is boring for people that are not art majors, but she tries her hardest to make it entertaining. Took her for winter. Slide memorization is a MUST and you have to make sure to take good lecture notes for the exam. Other than that, amazing professor and amazing class. A++++++
DO NOT BUY THE BOOKS. Take excellent notes and memorize the slide information. She is extremely smart and gives the best lectures I've ever heard at this school. I knew nothing about art and left with a ton of info and an A.
I just love, love, love her! The wonderful thing about her class is, her exams are prepared in a way where they're not going to trick you. Very straight forward, very kind and very fun! Miss her molto.
Really great professor! Makes the material interesting and entertaining. She really knows her stuff and tells interesting stories about the time periods/art/artists. You have to go to class and pay attention to the lecture to do well. The book helps! And make flashcards for the art.
Great Prof. Clear, full of energy. She hates when students keep their phone on or txt. If she sees youre texting, shell throw you out or make u do 5 push ups in front of class. Highly recommend~
I appreciate her enthusiasm but honestly this class is brutally boring. Its not the teacher's fault, the material is just no fun (and I LOVE art, I have an AA from an art institute). This is a 100% lecture class; no hands-on learning. Talks super fast too.
Very easy teacher. Easy Tests. Gives you a list of what's going to be in the test. A lot has to do with memorizing. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! I just had a copy of the glossary and got the images online and got a B! Must go to class everyday. Notes are handy.
Very easy class. Just have to remember slides and some terms. Easy way to get an A. Class is in lecture hall, and lights are dimmed, so might get tired and sleepy, but listening to lecture is not that important as long as you can remember the slides. Overall, great professor, she knows art history.
I would highly recommend her. The class isn't too exciting but she does the best she can with the material. Attendance is mandatory and good note taking is essential. Also, you can do without the textbook. Overall, she gets an A from me! :]
She is a very smart and knowledgeable . She doesn't like talking over people so you better be quiet. her class is mostly lectures, taking notes really helps for your tests. She puts things from her notes in the test. overall she is a very friendly teacher and easy to approach to for info.
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS and WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING. I didn't even use the books. She talks; I wrote down a lot of things and took the tests; got an A. Listen and memorize all the slides!!!
She's such an incredible lecturer; I don't see how anyone can say her class is boring. The stories are wonderful, she's extremely clear on what's going to be on the test. I've gotten As on all tests WITHOUT the book or any studying really-- even so, the class is enjoyable and you actually take a lot away from it. She's hilarious and entertaining.
Her lectures are so fascinating, she really knows her stuff. I never read my books & have always got A's in her classes. As long as ya take great lecture notes... study them, & memorize the slides... you'll get an A. Her classes are awesome, but wouldn't recommend them to someone who doesn't plan to show up, take notes, or not study. Great Teacher!
Simply wonderful =)
One of my all time fav professor. I knew nothing about art and after I took her class I wanted to major in it. She is awesome.
Best Best Best
Amazing teacher. Hated art history before her class started and once it finished I wanted to take her again just for fun. She is such an inspirational person. She is tough on cell phones so don't use them. Her lectures are long and in detail but really helpful. She gives no study guide but goes over what's on the test the day before the test.
Most interesting person I ever met. Intelligent woman and with sense of big humor.
I LOVED HER CLASS. I had absolutely no knowledge of art history before her class and now thinking about majoring in it. She's tough, but very clear and helpful. You know exactly what will be on the tests and final. I got an A by coming to class, taking notes and studying the slides. Didn't open the book once.
Amazing, wonderful, knowledge teacher. Skilled, funny! Never learned so much from a profressor! Iwo take all her classes and more. just a pleasure to be in her class! Didnt miss one class just because i like it soo much
This is by far my most favorite Professor ever. I've taken all of Prof. Eugenevna Sumnik Levins's classes and have had a wonderful time surveying Art. Just take good notes, listen to her lectures and keep your cell phone off!! I don't think I've ever met such a wonderful person as prof. Levins, well aside from my spouse of-course whom I would also gladly trade for a lecture in Art hist, psych! :-)
She is awesome. If you attend class and pay attention it will be an easy A. I never opened the book and I got an A. She tell you exactly what will be on the exam. She is interesting and has a great sense of humor. Very easy to listen to and follow. Class time goes by very fast.
She is definitely one of my favorite profs. that I have. Her tests are pretty self-explanatory, if you study, you are FOR SURE going to get an A. You do not want to miss a class, missing one of her classes is like missing 4days. She's really nice, and is willing to help you as long as you ask her and she drops the lowest score of your exams!!
SUCH A GR8 CLASS, SUPER INTERESTING! TESTS ARE NOT HARD, LECTURES ARE THOROUGH
I took this prof in the summer of 09 and she was a very easy professor. She explained whats on the test, her notes are crystal clear, and she has a great sense of humor. I would recommend this professor.
This class was easy. There's no homework. 2 midterms and a final determine your grade in the class. She's funny just don't use your phone in the class, she'll kick you out. I recommend everyone to take her
She is great! Her class requires attendance because her tests are based on her lectures. The beauty of it all is that you don't need the book. However, you did need to learn how to write goods notes fast because she says a lot in her lectures. If you took good notes and studied, the tests are kind of easy.
Don't buy the book! Be there every day take good notes study hard for an A+.....She is the best professor at LAVC
Prof. Sumnik-Levins is awesome. She tends to deviate sometimes but she notices it and gets right back on track :) Make sure you attend class and write good notes! Highly recommend.
Great teacher, love her Art History class!
She is a very good teacher. i have never had a teacher were i have the ability to remember what she has explained in class after i go home. her use of integrating the different art works together makes me want to know more !!!!! I will continue to take her courses!!!
I've taken this professor twice (102 & 103) and each time I've left class with a greater appreciation for Art. Art 102, meh, I'll just take it as a pre-req for CSU/UC, but when you go to class you find yourself really interested (because of her teaching style) in everything she covers. There's a reason why she's the Dept Head... find out why.
Her class was so much fun, and she's such a great professor. I've taken art classes prior to this, but none of them can compare to her methods of teaching. You do need to learn artworks and trivia about them, but she only gives three tests ni the whole semester, and she gives you a study guide for each section she goes over. Very sweet lady!
Prof. Sumnik-Levins is a great professor. She's always on time and explains each topic clearly. Whenever I'm confused about something, I just go to her after class and she'll gladly explain it to me, even though she's busy and a lot of people want to talk to her too. Overall, one of the best professors in the Valley
Absolutely amazing, one of the best professors from the Art department. She is great at teaching, you will love her. She tells you what to expect in the exams. Not easy but you can easily obtain an A if you work hard.
She is truly passionate about art and that alone will get you interested in her class. Art is not my cup of tea and I was bored to death in that class, but she is a good prof! I passed her class with an A and all I did was look at her handout and memorize the artwork and pay somewhat attention to her lectures. Textbook is NOT necessary! good class
Great teacher! Was doing really bad at the beginning, but she gives you a chance to pass the class. Stay on track and you'll do fine.
This is my second semester I've taken her class. Got an A both times. Never bought the book. She'll tell you what's on the test. It's just memorization. All multiple choice questions. Super easy. TAKE THE CLASS! I RECOMMEND IT!
I have taken 3 of her classes, she is one of the greatest teachers at LAVC. She is eccentric but extremely knowledgable and a great introduction to art history and a community college. All you have to do is show up, listen to lectures, take notes, and study before the test. She marks which works of art you will be test on.
Very Nice Professor. Loves what she does. Very organized and detailed. Lectures are helpful as guides to reading the book. Book is not cheap for the amount covered in it. Better off printing pages. Class consists of 3 exams averaged out to the final grade in class. Would take again!!!!!
What can I say...She is awesome! I really love her passion and enthusiasm. She even gives you a study guide for the quizzes and even the final, so there is no excuse. She is also very helpful if you do not understand. Love her!
Ok, I'm not gonna trash talk cuz she gave me an F, but she is not a good teacher. She dosnt give hw @ all. She xpects u 2 rite everything that comes out of her mouth during the lec 4 whn it is time 2 take a tst. So the only way u'll get a gr is by all those tst results cuz like I sed, she dosnt give hw @ all. So that's not a goods thing
I don't know about the last person's comments, but I do know that Sumnik-Levins is the best Art History professor in the department (sorry Bishop). No homework, but you do have a lot to study for exams. Everything she says is on the exams so it behooves a person to pay attention. If you failed her class, then you did not TRY HARD ENOUGH.
She is so awsome! She is very professional and clear in her lectures. In addition to teaching lecture, she is in charge of the whole Art Department. She loves what she does and she's very good at it. Lots of great energy. Superb!
This class is pretty easy, she tells you exactly what you need to know on the handouts given. If you have a hard time memorizing names and dates then i don't recommend her.I got an A in the class without buying the book.I only went to the library and used the book for a couple hours for definitions.(Tip:take notes and make flashcards it really helps)
I loved taking her class. She's extremely knowledge about what she loves. I fell in love with ancient Egypt because of her teachings. As far as your grade, it consists of 3 exams. But her tests are based on how well you listened and comprehended the material and memorization. Loved her class.
class is mandatory if you want to get a good grade and it is only easy if you take school seriously and pay attention and study. overall great teacher. love her.
Difficult but doable.Loved her class! It was like storytime every class.Detail & big picture oriented.Took me back in time & helped me see things from a different PERSPECTIVE.Get the books & make flash cards.Go to class, its easier to remember with a story & u get handouts.4 tests multi choice-thats ur whole grade.Shes amazing.Has her **** together!
Professor Sumnik-Levins is the best! She is passionate and enthusiastic about social art history and you will learn so much from her lectures. That said, don't buy the book. All of the tests focus on lecture material. Slide identification is important to study for, but she doesn't try to trick you. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Sumnik-Levins is awesome! She is nice, extremely knowledgeable, and very entertaining. I love going to her class and listening to all of the stories she tells about each art piece. She doesn't give homework, but you must take notes during class to help with the three exams. She has made me appreciate art so much more. Take this class!
Very knowledgeable and gives interesting lectures. Very energetic and fun.
Great teacher! Really loves what she does and enjoys teaching. Not the type of class to not study and get an A. Study for tests, plus she gives extra credit! Which really helps your grade.
The Professor is very nice and helpful. I definitely recommend her
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! SHE IS AWESOME
PLEASE TAKE HER, SHE IS THERE FOR YOU. VERY NICE WOMAN.
She is knowledgeable and caring. Take good notes and do your part. You will pass
AMAZING professor!!! I love her! she's stern but fair. A woman to be respected and demands respect for the classroom. I love it when someone is passionate about what they do! I dreaded having to take this course and it quickly became my favorite class. Has a great spirit! more teachers should aspire to be like her. Just show up do the work!!
A hard-working professor. But, she is a horrible teacher. Hard tests. The class is so she can lecture from beginning to end without being interrupted, without any assignments, without her even asking any questions. ITS ALL ABOUT HER, zero class involvement. She's arrogant. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
All these positive ratings are definitely from art majors only. She is a passionate professor. However, would it hurt to actually stop lecturing for a second so students can understand what you're talking about? Oh if you go to the bathroom or leave in general she locks you out. She's a bit too obsessed with art. Tough class. Miserable experience.
I loved this class! It was my first semester, and she showed me how high the level of learning is at the college level. I learned so much about women and art. The tests were simple as long as you were prepared. The books really helps to understand the art pieces if you don't understand her or miss class. Lectures do cover a lot in one sitting.
She's a sweetheart and her lectures are extremely interesting! I'm a math major so I had to take her for TAP credits but she's fantastic and I don't regret it at all. However, if you're going to be absent a lot-- don't take her. While a lot of the material is in the txtbook, the multiple choice on the exams (13) comes from her lectures.
By far the most amazing prof!! Get ready to memorize EVERYTHING. Her lectures truly make the subject interesting. She gives permission to record her lectures, so take advantage for studying purposes. Tests are specific not too difficult. She is very professional very clear super nice and has a great sence of humor! Would definitely take again.
I took her summer Art 101 class and it was a breeze. As long as you pay attention to the lectures, take adequate notes, and memorize bits and pieces of information as you go, you'll get a B or higher. She repeats main ideas a lot and gives you the information that's on the exams way ahead of time. She is hilarious and free spirited. Love her.
She is an awesome prof! So funny! Love her methods of teaching, and really draws my attention
She is a great teacher and very enthusiastic. Her tests are straight forward just pay attention to lecture and study the art. I generally don't find art interesting but her excitement for it rubbed off on me. She tells you exactly how many points you need to get whatever grade. Highly recommended her but make sure not to text in class she hates it!
I am currently taking Professor Sumnik-Levins. Make sure you take great notes. Her exams will test your memorization skills.
She makes Art History really interesting. Didn't buy the book but I took good notes and attended every class. We took two vocabulary quizzes and two tests plus the final test. Tests consist of Vocabulary terms, objective terms and 6 slide identification with 5 objective questions for each piece. Great class, and she's really enthusiastic about it!
Lectures the whole class with almost no student participation. Tests are based off handouts that she gives the class. You will have to memorize art pieces and art definitions. Her tests are not that difficult if you have good memorization skills. Easy A if you put enough work into the class. She is s a good person tho and I would recommend her.
Professor Sumnik is very amazin, very intelligent, very professional. She is the master of art history. I had art 101 and art 102 with her and again I want to take another art class because of professor Sumnik gave very interesting lectures. If you pay attention, you will get good grate and of course you will learn about art and will never forget .
Professor Sumnik is amazing and very professional. She is the master of the art history. I had art 101 and art 102 but again I want to take another art class with same professor. Her lectures are interesting and if you learn ones you will know forever. Overall professor Sumnik makes art history very interesting, if you pay attention get good grade.
Prof. Sumnik-Levins gave us a clear grading criteria and there was an extra credit opportunity. Only 5 grades to make your final grade (2 quizzes, 3 exams) but the tests were tricky when it came to identifying different pieces of art. I swear, knowing the years those sculptures were made was a hassle, but you're only tested on like 5 or 6 per exam.
only opened the book to find definitions. Class attendance is required for an A. I was skeptical at first but came out with a greater appreciation for the subject.
Professor Sumnik-Levins is one of the most awesome professors I have ever had. She is very clear-cut from the beginning. She gives you outlines of things you should know for the exams. Class is easy if you show up, pay attention, and take good lecture notes. If you have trouble with taking notes, record her lectures like I did!
It is possible to pass the class without reading the book, just based off notes and actual lecture listening! I barely opened the book, but memorization is KEY! Interesting lectures and is CLEAR. She'll give you handouts of what vocab words and slides to study from. Don't suggest skipping class as some parts of the quizzes/exams come from her.
Test outline: First, Vocab is easy to memorize. Second, multiple choice questions are based on her lectures so do pay attention. Lastly, her slides are the most points and are very easy !! 3 tests the whole semester and 2 quizzes. Extra credit the bumps up your grade by 5 % , take her.
She is so passionate about art and really knows a lot. Get a new appreciation of art if you actually try and pay attention. Lectures all class. 2 quizzes & 3-4 tests. Won't pass if you do not take final but she is fair & can tell she cares you get the material. Makes you buy 2 expensive art books & should read in order to follow her lectures.
She is strict about cellphones & talking so please respect her & she will be nice. She loves art and I found her lectures interesting & got a new appreciation and admiration for art. Can go to museums & understand the art pieces & what artists try & convey. She is easy & all tests are lecture based but do take the final or she will fail you.
I find it hilarious that my initial review of this horrible teacher, was removed. That obviously just goes to show that you will never see a true teacher's rating on here. The truth gets deleted apparently and all you see are good reviews. Once again, don't be fooled. Worst Professor I've ever had the displeasure of taking. Avoid.
No textbook use at all, which was a waste of money. Lectures for 3 hours, but only 1 hour worth of information stretched out over the course of the class. Talks about personal life, goes off track, calls you out for cell phone usage when you could just step outside and use your phone. (Makes no sense). Treats students like it's High School.
If you plan to take this course to fulfill your General Education requirement, forget about it. This class is clearly & strictly for students who are Art majors. The teacher is of no help and expects you to give every piece of information about the artwork, which is ridiculous. You'd be better off taking a Drawing/Dimensional design course.
not really a big fan of her teaching method she should be more lineant
She is very helpful, makes art history very interesting, gives all the materials needed for exams, gives an extra credit opportunity.
For the first time ever I disliked art because of the kind of professor she was. Take anyone else but her. And do not take her in the evenings, you will doze off even if the subject is relevant to you. Seriously, any one but her.
Save your time on taking this or any class with her. Her test are not clear, she has you buy 2 books (waste of money since she goes off her own notes) I found her always with the intention to cram so much material without letting one truly understand the material and works. To fulfill GE requirement, consider alternatives.
Pretty sure the negative reviews are from the same person and didn't study as much as they should've. I was able to pass with an A in the WINTER session. Make sure you study every day to keep the material running through your head as it is very easy to forget. You don't need the book, yes that's true. But you need to really memorize the slides more
JUST PAY ATTENTION! Show up, be respectful and ask questions. She is more than willing to elaborate on what you need. Condensed material makes it easier to go into detail on what is being covered. I learned a lot. Lots of extra credit. You will not fail if you are even half invested in passing. RENT the book or check it out of library.
If you're taking Art History, take Bishop instead. I don't know who hires such incompetent teachers at LAVC, but Sumnik-Levins is one of them. A true embarassment to the Art field & the epitome of bad practices. I hope she retires, or finds another job that she can actually be good at.
Do not take her for your 1st Art History class. I recommend her for students possibly pursuing AH as a degree, because the amount of knowledge you need to succeed in her class is perhaps on par with a Science or Math course. NOT an easy A. You need to dedicate a huge amount of time to study and even supplement it. There are easier AH classes @lavc
She really makes you memorize EVERYTHING about the artwork, even the date. Her tests are super long and literally paragraphs u have to read through in multiple choice. Take her if ur actually an AH major otherwise there are easier AH classes at lavc.
One of the best professors i have ever taken. She is just amazing, her lectures are heavy but fun. She is more than happy to help you out with any problem. 3 tests, 2 quizzes mostly based o lectures. Pay attention to what she say and take good notes as long as you devote time you will get an A in the class. Her tests are not hard but specific.
Makes you buy 2books but goes completely off of lecture. Only used books for some definitions. You NEED to know your dates, terms and artists to do well on tests. Overall not too bad but really strict about talking/using phone and can be a little mean sometimes. Does offer extra credit. "Easy" A only if you take good notes and study a lot.
The most boring class ever. Don't take her class, otherwise I'm sure you'll regret.
Very kind professor, she lectures quite a bit but you retain all of the knowledge. You'll have 3 tests, 2 quizzes, and 1 extra credit opportunity (which you should take advantage of!) You don't technically NEED the books, but you will have to find another way of getting pictures of all of the artwork. She will drop your lowest text grade.
Very lecture heavy. I took this class with her last year, didn't pass. Took it again this year, and I passed! Honestly, just listen to what she says and you'll be alright. Read the books assigned (she has them on hold at the library) and take notes during lecture. She's great! Wonderful, wonderful professor.
I would say she's very straight forward, everything is off the book that costs about 200, or 170 to rent the book, theres three 50 questions tests each a 100 points two quizzes each 10 points. The test are pretty difficult you must memorize 20 to 25 images. She will ask for NAME, THE DATE, WHATS ITS MADE OF, THE TIME PERIOD, AND A RANDOM QUESTION.
Eugenia is the best!! I really enjoyed her class even though it got boring at times, most of the time it was super cool and interesting. If you are a visual learning she is the teacher for you. The class is very focused on memorizing slides of art. Like the artists name, the title of the piece of art, the date and the medium. Take good notes too.
Eugenia is amazing! She is so passionate about art history and makes you love it just as much as she does. A very visual learning class. You get to see the art up close as she lectures about it, the lectures can get boring sometimes, but they are mostly fascinating. She's very understanding and gives extra credit. She's the best.
Sumnik Levins is an Amazing Professor she is extremely clear as to what she expected from you. She is very specific as to what you have to study, she gives you study guides for your Exams, she usually gives 2 quizzes so you kind of get an Idea before hand of how the exam are going to be like. Overall Great Proffesor, Kind and Understanding.
Attendance is a must. She covers a lot of material and you have to memorize dates and periods and names and art pieces for the slide id part of the test. I did not use the textbook much and i got a good grade. Learned a lot of interesting facts. She is passionate about the subject so she is strict about paying attention and having phones off.
her lectures are very interesting, she makes you be alert ,she is funny too, Iwanted to take another art history class and I was looking especially for her, because I know it will be great.
She knows her stuff and I learned a lot. It was a difficult class due to the nonstop lectures and the amount of memorization that was required to do well on her tests, but if you show up, take excellent and copious notes and make flash cards you will do well. If your writing hand doesnt hurt after class you arent taking enough detailed notes!
That's great Professor of Art 101 Class. The lectures are not heavy. Let's note careful at class, review at three handouts, you are not difficult to pass this class with B. My English is not good, but I passed this class with A. I'll take class Art 105 with her next semester.
Don't miss class. Take good notes. Try to write down everything. Lots of memorization. Lectures are mostly verbal. Has picture on board, occasionally writes word on the board. MEMORIZE SLIDES AND ALL INFO (dates, etc). She's really nice. EC opportunity. She doesn't like electronics. I only used the book to review the slides. 3 exams, 2 quizzes.
Took her Fall17 for Art 116. Lovely teacher, clearly cares about her students & wants what's best for them. Classes are heavy lectures the entire time frame, so take good & detailed notes. You won't even read the 2 books she requires, so don't buy them since exams/quizzes are ONLY based on the lectures. So try to be present or you'll fall behind.
ART116 for Fall '17. Be present b/c classes are VERY lecture heavy. Offers extra credit opportunities worth up to a full grade (10 pts) altogether. Counts any significant improvement towards your final letter grade. I bombed one quiz but got an A because I went from 50% on quizzes to 90-100% on exams. Amazing teacher!
I was not interested in art history until I took her class art 101, and Art 105 late. English is my second language, that why I can not understand all her lectures. But I felt the passion and inspiration in her lectures. If you study careful all on Handouts that she gives, you are easy to pass this class. She is very dedicated to all students.
Professor Levin was an absolutely amazing teacher, even though my major has nothing to do with art history I learned SO much. There are 3 tests, 2 quizzes and 1 extra credit assignment that she offers, she also gives you handouts to study for the tests. If you read, show up and pay attention in class, and put some effort you'll receive an A !!
Took it during summer. Unlike other summer classes, she didn't try to fit 4 months worth of info into one month. Instead, we only went over egyptian, greek, and roman art and she focused on giving us a good understanding of it. 3 exams to test memory of the art shown, none are cumulative. Use flashcards on quizlet to study ;) Easy A & extra credit.
For me personally, Art 101 was really boring. We were graded solely on three tests, the lowest of which was dropped. The entire class is just memorization. All of the tests were multiple choice, and if you didn't memorize, you didn't pass. To be fair, you have a pretty good idea of what is on each test. Extra credit, but you have to go to a museum.
Once again Professor Levins never disappoints. She is a wonderful educator with extreme knowledge about art history from any generation. Her tests are designed exactly like her study guide, just study and read the information about the art works and you will be prepared for her tests. She offers extra credit & her lectures are important to attend
Ones agains, Professor Levins is absolutely amazing at teaching. She has a beautiful personality and makes art history fun for everyone. Without a doubt I'd take her for every art class she offers!
Mrs. Levin is greatest teacher I ever had. She is funny and thanks to her and I, pass the art 101 with a C. I recommend her for Art 102 for the fall She deserves 5.0
a very very hard art history teacher. Makes you memorize up to like 50 art pieces and the date of when and where it was painted or made. She also makes you memorize the type of art. If you dont memorize any of these stuff, you WILL NOT pass her class. Also, read the textbooks she makes you buy. Just by being in her class will not get you an A+
Took her over the summer 2019. In 5 weeks. Gives quiz's to prepare you for 2 exams and final 50 questions. Extra credit go to museum with 1 page paper. We talked about Egypt, Greek and Rome art. Great Memorization class. Would take again create your own flash cards online or on paper. Intimidating at first. Dnt be lazy take her class!
Took it summer 2019. She is absolutely amazing and makes the class as interesting as she can. Slide identification is SO IMPORTANT. I suggest using quizlet for Egyptian and Greek art portion of the class to study. Go to class, study, take good notes and you will pass. Also you'll need the book for vocab and picture reference. Interesting class!
I was excited to take this class but had to drop it after this teacher said she will not allow students to translate to others in her class she said and I quote "if you want to take this class, I recommend you to work on your English before". Is that even allowed? She also said she doesn't allow students to ask questions during lecture. Ridiculous.
Her lectures are very interesting. Attendance is mandatory, as most of what she lectures will be on the exams. There is an optional extra credit museum visit. This professor is very passionate about this subject and it shows. Definitely recommend.
After taking both Art 101 and 105 with this professor: She is a very sweet and has interesting lectures. I feel like she doesn't set her students up for success: Exams are heavily memorization-based (dates/periods/materials), and you memorize 30+ pieces only for a random 5 on the exam. Curveball questions on exams that are about lecture-only stuff.
This class was very hard to get through. Her lectures are not the most interesting but paying attention was necessary because it included all the information that was on tests. I bought the book but never touched it. Good luck.
Professor Levins is very intelligent in her field. If you're looking for an easy A I would avoid. There is zero homework and the class is entirely lecture-based. 3 exams and a final. Take good notes and pay attention or else you will not pass. There is a lot of artwork to memorize. Her lectures are good but can get confusing.
Class is lecture based, lots of details & notes. 2 quiz 3 exams all from lecture. I have the book but did not really use it. Great teacher but super old school. If your looking for a free pass DO NOT take this class. This is a hard class for learning. If your good a lecture style and good a memorization then you will do fine
Took her for Spring 2020 with covid. Taking good notes is key to getting a good grade. Highly recommended to type your notes. She allows open book for every exam including the final. Her lectures are recorded on Zoom, so reference back to them in case you miss anything. Out of all the classes I took, it translated best to online. Sweet lady! :)
I have taken 4 of her courses and she is very knowledgeable. She is very kind and knows her stuff. Her lectures are mandatory and can not be slept through. You must take good notes, read the text (at the very least skim it) and memorize the works. She tells you exactly what to do and is very fair. I wish I could take more classes from her.
I personally loved her class. If you enjoy lecture based courses, I highly recommend. Make sure to take good notes! The exams are based on vocabulary terms, general objective questions and the art she has taught in the lectures.
I took art 101 this fall 2020 and I got an A. This class is an "easy a" if you - always attend her class meeting - take notes during her lecture - have access with the textbook (to complete the terms for the 3 handouts). Professor Levins is nice. You can take her quizzes and exams in two attempts except for the t/f quiz.
Eugenia is honestly the sweetest lady in the world. So passionate and knowledgeable about art and it shows in her lectures. Very accommodating and caring about her students. I've taken 3 of her classes, each of which have been amazing because of her. She always had her cats walking through her camera which was fun to see. Highly recommend!
I took professor Eugenia during the summer it was a 5 week course. She's an amazing professor here at Valley College her lectures are really interesting. She wouldn't give us homework mostly quizzes and exams. I definitely recommend you to take her class
Prof. Levin's lectures are quite enjoyable, her personality ever entertaining and starting my day off right (I took the 9:40am lecture). Attendance is important, as are lecture notes and whatever means needed to understand the information. You are graded through vocabulary/lecture exams that are straightforward when you study!
Honeslty, I do not have any interest in art. I found it hard to get engaged within her lectures even when I tried my best, she speaks way to fast and gets off track sometimes but its okay. Her exams are lecture based.
Professor Sumnik-Levins is a teacher of the highest quality. Both her content and style are engaging, supportive and encouraging. Be prepared to take copious notes and not miss any lectures. If you miss, try to get another student's notes. Treat yourself to an uplifting academic experience and take her course. Michael Stern.
Professor Eugenia's ART101 is a challenging but rewarding class. The lectures are detailed, so taking good notes and using resources like unstuckstudy ai are key. Exams focus on memorizing artworks, but with dedication, you can succeed.
Interesting material! However, the way the course is structured leaves little else to be desired. There are no assignments, the only things your grade is determined by is 3 exams that are centered specifically on what she says in lecture. Take diligent notes, however I found that difficult because of the fast rate she goes through topics.
I really enjoyed this class. It's clear that Professor Eugenia is passionate about art and her personality made the lectures all the more interesting to listen to. There are no assignments and exams are open-note, just be sure to prepare everything in advance. There is a lot of note taking so be sure to attend every class and take good notes.
She is by far one of the most passionate professors I've come across for LAVC. She loves art history and it shows. Her lectures are very engaging. Highly recommend to attend every lecture as what you write down in your notes from lecture, will most likely end up on the exam. There is no homework, just 4 or 5 exams.
She is an amazing professor. I took her during the summer for a 5-week course, and taking her was the best. Her class required only lectures and exams, which should be easy if you pay attention in lecture.
The class I actually felt I learned something from. Gives study guides that include all needed vocab and art during her lectures in order to do the tests. I took notes during her class which I am so glad I have even now. Assigned reading from the textbooks as well. Super lovely and sweet, you can tell how passionate she is about art history.
One of my favorite Professors. She is very nice, knowledgeable, funny, and understanding. Lectures were long, however in between lectures she would do jokes which I consider them really funny. She also shares her experience. textbook is kind of required, but you might not use it a lot. She gives a lot more information than in books
10/10 in my book
Love her. She is genuinely a kind soul and the class itself was incredibly informative while also not being too difficult. You need to write down the facts she explains, key terms, and understand the "what & why" of the art shown in class. Lecture heavy, but she makes it enjoyable. No homework, only quizzes & tests on vocabulary and slides.
