I did well because I basically memorized everything. Others had alot of trouble. He doesn't know english very well, gets off on tangents, doesn't teach anything in class, and exams are poorly worded and hard to understand.
The class was pretty easy if you read your book and put a fair amount of time into the group project. Although he was sometimes difficult to understand, I still did well in the class because I read a lot.

Speaks in English,Spanish, and Latin (U Guess). Tough material!! I have been going to class for 2 months and I know that it's history(course title), but haven't gotten anything else out of it. Most of us are spanish majors and have already had supplements to the material, yet 70% is the av. grade.
He curves the grades, so it can't be that hard (the highest score on a test sets the A). In general the class is very interesting, and if you actually listen there is much to learn.
I studied for one of the exams for ten hours, and I still only got a B on the exam. He curves a lot of the exams and usually take no more than 20 min to complete because they are less than 50 mult choice questions
He is a very interesting man. Very intelligent. If you go to class and take good notes you will do fine.
intelligent man, can be a bit difficult to understand. take good notes, test will be kind of difficult.
Is difficult to understand. Easy to get a good grade, as long as you fill out the study guide he provides for the class (and know the info) and do well on your group presentation. Difficult grader for the group presentation - if you do something wrong, he will interrupt. he is not understanding.
I think this class is amazing because it opens you up to a portion of history that seems to be forgotten/ignored. My class had a TA so the language barrier wasn't too horrible, and you get used to it. What the teacher wants is confusing and then if you ask questions he gets mad... but overall I suggest the course for its content.

He is a horrible teacher that needs to learn how to speak English. I would not recommend anyone to take a class of his--and I am a history major. Get out now if you are in, it will only get worse.
if you are paying any sort of attention, his accent really isnt bad. at all. i dont think he's given the credit he deserves. i love this guy! the work isnt too hard, and the reading isnt too much either. just do the work and you'll be fine.
Pinero was hilarious during class, and a really nice guy. I thought his accent was awesome, he knows what he's talking about. The only reason the class is challenging is because the history of Latin America is difficult material. If you take notes in class and do the study guides, you'll do fine.
Histarical! If you just pay attention, the accent isnt bad, and he knows his english isnt perfect, so he tries to write things that might be unclear on the board. go to lecture, take notes, and do the reading. then you'll be absolutely fine! this man is awesome. he really knows his stuff!
Easy class I have ever taken. It feels like an easy high school class. Just show up and take notes in very class. Test are easy. Just cram the night before. Besides that, don't waist your time on the class.
Very funny professor. Take his class.
I love this man! he's soo nice and he wants to make sure you understand. MAJOR curve on tests! Take this class if you want an A!
Yeah, it takes a little effort to listen and understand him sometimes, but he sends the powerpoints out before the lecture so you can follow along. Has a good sense of humor, especially about his spanglish. Tests are hard, especially in Latin American History, but has a nice curve. Rewards you nicely for actively participating.
He is a funny guy and knows a lot about the subject, but it's very hard to understand him. Mainly rely on the powerpoints and textbook to get through the class. Lectures a lot, and ta does all his work. Class is very bory although he does try to make it more enjoyable with his jokes...which are actually funny for a change.
Hard to understand. Pretty hard tests (you can do well if you study hard). He asked our class if we had any questions regarding the material (we had a test the next period..2 days later) and he said once we left the class he didnt want any questions. How ridiculous is that? 2 days before a test and he won't answer ?s. NOT HELPFUL.
He is a very easy professor. If you study for his exams, you will do fine. You will do even better if you just show up for class, although it's not always necessary. He has a pretty think accent, but it's not too hard to understand, and he has a sense of humor.
Not sure if I learned anything, not that I knew everything just that his tests didn't test important information, they were closer to Spanish vocab tests. Brutal paper required. Nice guy.
He is rude and his class is insane. I tried to get help from the begining and he told me to get a tutor.
Nice prof, likes to make fun of himself. Didn't learn too much and the paper sucked, but not too difficult to pull of a good grade.
His tests were only from the powerpoints; we never really used our textbook. The homework is hard and time consuming, but it does not even help your grade.
boring class with a ton of studying and hard tests. He had bronchitis the whole semester so that may be why he was so bad. Dont take this class.
Most of the test material is based of powerpoints which are easy if you show up. However, he gives readings to be done called "Encounter Questions." These readings are not for a grade and do nothing to help the class. If you listen in class you can get an easy A, however if you do all the work you are just wasting your time.
This class is insain. i cannot understand what he is saying at all durring the lectures, which is probubly why i didnt do so hot, but even spending 1 hour per week studying, i still only got a C. he does have a sense of humor. the tests are all multiple choice and they are VERY hard, the Q's are on the smallest least important facts
This guy is actually pretty cool. He has an accent, but I can almost always understand him (and I don't speak Spanish) and he always catches himself if he speaks "Spanglish". Knows a lot about ancient history. Pretty funny guy. His class is a little harder than average though (though I lack a solid background in ancient history).
Can't understand anything he says...makes his TA answer all your outside of class questions..textbook reading is boring and mandatory..tests are HARD
Worst Prof I have had here!
He is a horrible teacher. Half the time I couldn't understand what he was saying. He is not very organized and he's lectures are extremely boring. If you want to learn something and have a chance at a good grade DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This guy can be funny, but watch out for the really strong accent. If you aren't paying very close attention you can miss a lot of what he is saying. But the tests are curved! A lot. Also the lectures can get VERY dull and you have to rely on the text A LOT! He's a nice enough guy but the class is difficult for some.
This was the worst class ever!He was incomprehensible, his TA did most of the work for him, and I didn't learn a thing. His tests were hard and they covered too much information at once. He could be funny, but he often got off topic and forgot to get back on topic which was frustrating.
Going to class is no use although mandatory. Tests were made by the TA and only the 4th and final test had anything on it from in-class.
just no good, not into his job, hard to understand at times, test are easy but are mostly on unimportant things, really really boring to listen to
Not a good professor! Can't understand a word he says, the entire grade depends on 4 exams, which are extremely difficult. He expects us to remember what he talks about in class in lecture, but he can't even speak english! not recommended
Has accent, but once you get used to it you can understand most of what he says. Grade based mostly on multiple choice test scores, very easy. Group reports on readings.
He has quite an accent, but you get used to it. His tests are easy, and write down everything he puts on the board. He doesn't put too much on the board, but basically anything he writes up there WILL be on the test.
very hard class!! all points are from very very difficult tests ... and you can barely understand him ... not a fun class!
This class is not difficult by any means, provided you read the text. The tests are easy, the quizzes are easier. However, Pinero's incompetence is often distracting, he's absent minded to a point where he forgets about quizzes/tests/presentations, and I often found myself reading during his class instead of listening.
Although Professor Pinero at times can be hard to understand, he is quite insightful when it comes to looking a history from a different perspective. I enjoyed his class greatly and would like to take another class with him. He taught me alot and I feel like I am a better historian for it.
The worst professor I have had yet up to this point in my college career, says he will test you on something and test you on something else. I would NOT recommend this professor at all!
Pinero is very knowledgeable about the subject matter, but he has a hard time filtering out what is relevant to the class. He has difficulty understanding students questions and is unnecessarily condescending a lot of the time. The work load for this class is outrageous, and we barely discussed the readings we did. His tests are very difficult.
The lectures are the most boring thing in the world. Prof Pinero e-mails his outlines and highlights all the stuff you need to know for the exams. Dont go to class and just stay at home and get to learn the highlighted terms. I did other homeowrk every day in class and got an A. good luck following the guy if you actually try and listen.
Do not take this professor. You will regret it. The tests are hard. They are multiple choice though. His accent is so thick I spent most of the time trying to figure out what he was saying. He can be funny at times. Short notice on tests and quizes. You get study groups but he picks them. I woud not reccomend unless you love doing homework all night
Worst prof ever. His first comments to the class were he is not mexican... Huge jerk who thinks groups are the greatest thing known to man. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I usually am very open to teachers and I haven't hated one in a long time but Pinero is a bad professor. He really knows his stuff, but has no idea how to teach it. Thick accent, but you get used to it. 10 page group essay, a few small papers and 4 tests = your grade. Very difficult tests, they are on small details. I'm a hist major and I hated it
He knew a lot about the subject matter but his lectures were confusing. And his tests are really hard!!! It helps if you read the book but there are still a lot of hard questions on the test. He was really unorganized and his class really frustrated me. I don't recommend taking this class with Professor Pinero.
This was by far the easiest history class I've taken. I got a 100% on every exam (thanks to his ridiculously high curve). READ THE TEXTBOOK if you want an A! And bs your 20 page paper if you have to...it's only like 5% of your grade! Oh, and did I mention that Pinero can't teach. Bottom line: take good notes from the book and you'll do fine.
I can't STAND this guy. I spent almost the entire semester trying to figure out what he was saying, and his tests are super detailed. Laziest professor I've ever had, and super rude to students who even questioned his teaching. Don't take him.
Please stay away from this guy if you can! He is an absolute terrible teacher, and has the thickest accent on campus. The team project and paper is complete bull though, he doesn't even come to class to watch you present it...so just take those easy. Study hard for tests.
Absolutely the worst professor I've ever had in any of my years of schooling. Doesn't even show up half the days. I can guarantee you will feel this class is a waste of time and money. The worst part is that the tests are also very difficult. If you want to be bored in class, do poorly on tests, and feel your time has been wasted, take this guy.
Right... Uses Spanglish excessively and you really should be in another world for his lectures. He is down to earth, though, when you speak with him - but do it e-mail. Beware of his papers! Tests are horrific, but a sweet curve is applied.
Pinerio has the thickest accent I've ever heard from a teacher. If you can understand Spanglish you're set, if not DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Hard to understand lecture and you refer all questions to a TA that is hardly there. Worst class I've taken, EVER!
This class is the easiest class ever. Don't have to show up to class, just go through his powerpoint slides and you're all set for the exams. You don't even have to listen in class at all. I got a 97% for a final grade after the curve and yet there were still people failing the class. I didn't put much effort at all. People are so stupid.
Difficult to understand sometimes, but easy class. Exams are simple. Offers extra credit points for coming to all the classes. Final was dumb though because many of the questions were in his opinion.
Extremely easy class. Like people say no need to go because he does not teach nor does he care about his students. Didn't attend classes or do homework and got a B- including a 100% on the final. Easy class if you don't care about history and don't want to know your professor.
I wish that this class had subtitles. Start your project early, print off the power point slides. He grades on a very heavy curve so as long as the rest of the class is lost too you'll be fine.
He was a good guy, but not a great professor. Very hard to follow and the project was a lot of work. Would not recommend.
SOOOO boring in class but the exams are EXTREMELY EASY. Just go through the powerpoints and memorize the highlighted stuff.
Dr. Pinero is a really nice guy, but he is impossible to follow in class. The only way to pass the class is to read the textbook, which is one of the most dry books I've read in my entire life. His tests, for the most part, are based on minute details from the book that he hardly ever covers.
Do not take this class. Hard to understand. I don't know what kind of guy he really is but when in class he misunderstands stuff a student might say and throws a fit about it. Be-careful of what you do and say. Do not ask for his help only rely on the teachers assistant and your groups/classmates.
The only plus to this class is that it's cancelled a lot. Other than that you can hardly understand or stay awake during lecture, and Pinero is grumpy a lot. Tests are ungodly hard and are based on nothing we learned.
He is a funny guy, but you don't know what he is talking about most of the time. The exams are tough and he is obsessed with study groups. The group presentation and 20 page paper are jokes, he doesn't even pay attention to the presentations. He likes pork chops
DO NOT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS. He is so difficult to understand I was confused 100% of the time. I thought this course would be interesting but he makes me hate all history. I literally did homework for other classes during his class because I didn't understand 75% of what he was saying. Take ANY OTHER history class before this one.
Hes a real funny guy. His accent may get in the way sometimes but the class isn't all that tough so it probably wont hurt your grade or anything. Easy going class and once in a while a laugh riot!
Cannot understand anything he says. Tests are horrible.
He was impossible to understand which made it impossible to take notes and all his tests are lecture based! Do not take him if you have trouble with accents! many many many many group assignmentsquizzesprojects that your group has to do on their own with no help! i do not recommend him!!!
Professor Pinero is a really funny guy. He has a thick accent but after the first two weeks or so, you get used to it. His lectures get pretty off track and aren't super helpful in the test but give a little insight into everything and then you have to read the rest. ONLY GROUP ASSIGNMENTS besides tests. He is very nice and resonable
Pinero LOVES study groups and you'll have one for the whole semester that you do all assignments with. This was never really a problem though because the class is very easy, he let's you go early and cancels class all the time, and you pretty much get a good grade for just turning things in. He likes Coors Light, Spanglish, and pork products.
Yes, His accent is pretty thick, but the presentations pretty much contain what you need to know.
Eugene is a great man. He is Hispanic and has a strong accent but is understandable. He xis very funny and tells stories and jokes. Lets us out early because he don't want to stay long either. Puts us in groups of three for the entire semester to work on everything with. Many documentaries to watch and a group powerpoint at the end. Not hard & fun.
He is very hard to understand and I would never take a class with him again.
He does not care about his students and I found him to be difficult to understand. I never once asked him for help outside of class because I did not think he would care. He talks more about how he likes to drink Coors Light then the actual class content.
I loved Pinero! He is so funny and never fails to make me laugh. Easy class no homework and all the test are multiple choices, which is mostly vocab. Sure his accent is hard to understand, but after the first couple weeks, you get used to it! I would definitely take him again.
Pinero has such a heavy accent I could never understand him. Terrible teacher do not take.
I think that Pinero was a very educated professor, but the class was not educational at all. The lectures are extremely boring and he is also very hard to understand. However, it was a fairly easy class because all the exams were just key terms that you could memorize. He also would get off track at least once a class and it was somewhat amusing.
Never have had a homework assignment, but the exams are slightly hard. The accent sucks but he knows that, so he spells things out on the board. Memorize the key terms and you got an A. 4 exams that's it. He really really cares about his students, he would do anything so we succeed. Lets class out early all the time, too.
Prof. Pinero is incredibly disorganized so be prepared for a barrage of confusing and disconnected emails, confusing rambling lectures, and disconnected tangents. He's a good guy and all, but his classes are not fun. Also, good luck getting office hours or prompt responses to your emails....
Very unclear with instructions. Hard to understand. Lectures are just him talking and you copying it down. You never really have a clear understanding of what is going on or what he is looking for.
Literally worst professor I've ever had. You won't understand a single thing he says, course is set up in a beyond confusing way and don't bother asking for clarification cause he will probably just confuse you more. Don't listen in lectures just read the textbook and memorize his vocab words, just walked out of test 1 and pretty sure I failed.
I would not bother taking his class! You will learn nothing! No one in the class knows what is going on and I'm pretty sure during his lectures he does not even cover the topic. This class is a waste of time.
