she is nice, but she is not very open minded when it comes to grading papers

She is very picky about what she likes, she is not a good teacher for someone who likes to be different when writing papers.

She is nice. Her class is easy because all you do is discuss, but she is tough on her papers.
Gold is to say the least not my favorite professor. She is not helpfull in any way & she contradicts herself constantly. She is extremely vague in what she wants in an assignment until that assignment is graded. Only after grading does she tell you what she wanted from you. Gold also picks favorites
I really liked Dr. Gold. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you do the required readings. The tests make up like 75% of your grade, so it's important to do well on them. Basically, she is super nice, just read what you're supposed to and you'll be fine. She is a bit of a hippy though.
She is an ok teacher. She knows her info and discusses it with you in class but she will change her mind when your papers are due. Yes papers. She gives you about a week to write a paper of her liking and she does not even tell you if you thesis is good until she writes notes on your papers.
She is not a very good teacher. She gets distracted so easily and isn't really willing to help. She let you turn in you papers to be proofed before grading however didn't read past the first page and didn't tell you what was wrong with them. Advertised my grades throughout her classes.
I loved this class. Was talked into talking it a few years back. She challenges you to come up with your own ideas. I never had a problem with helpfulness as she was always available. She won't give you the answers you are looking for because she wants you to think for yourself
Dr. Gold was the coolest teacer for the English Honors. I wish she was teaching this semester, cause I'd be the first one to schedule her class. She's very helpful, and makes you think for yourself. I didn't find her class to be hard.
She was awsome and her class was easy! I loved it and I wish she hadn't taken this semester off. I didn't take english this semester so that way I can get her again next time. Why give other teachers a chance when I found one that is so cool? I'd recommend her to ANYBODY!
Love Dr. Gold. Devoute Dem, but tolerable. I liked her tests were easy. Must work on papers. Will help you develop a thesis made an A and did not read. I made one B+ on a paper other than that I made all A's. She does chose favorites. Luckily I was one of them. She likes those who are outspoken and express themselves. Even is she does not agree.
Good teacher. Read the readings, although for my class she went through them in class line by line and so I never read. Her tests are essay with some quotes to identify, but don't worry. Speak up in class, she likes people to share their interpretations.
AWESOME! LOVED THE CLASS. YOU MUST READ...she does go over the material, but I found it helpful to read the material afterwards. Test are essay with quotes to identify. I did bad on the tests, but good in the class (she does like her favs.)
It's been years since I had this class, but I think I remember her as being an okay teacher and not too hard. What I do remember is that she was an interesting character. Just getting to observe her makes it worth taking the class...
Dr Gold was one of my favorite Profs while I was in school because not only did she approve of my habit of coloring outside of the lines when it came to my work, she insisted upon it. If I have to make a list of people I miss at SLU, shes in the top 3.
While she is very charming and intelligent, I feel she strays from the topic at hand far too much. Loses focus and tends to small talk with her students in the middle of a lesson.
She's funny and a little out there. If you actually read the books and pay attention, you will do okay. Make sure you meet with her for each paper to go over it, she will guide you in the right direction.
Great teacher.
Mrs. Gold was recommended to me. She is really out there, but makes class fun. YOU MUST READ!!! She goes over what will be on each test, usually quotes/essays. She loves outspoken people. I am actually taking her husband in the Spring!!!!
I love her. She is really sweet. You must read all materials, but she helps you understand really awesome and classic publications. She makes you appreciate things you never did before.
she is a great teacher. she is so funny. i enjoyed going to class. she is a little out there, but she will make you like and understand the material. i would recommend her to anyone. even if you hate enlish, as i do, you will do good in her class! best english teacher i have had at SLU!
Eva is a good teacher. I like english lit and she likes english lit so it worked out great. Even if u don't like english lit, I still recommend her to anyone. Be prepared to read though! Tests are made up of quotes and an essay.
Shes go so far out there and the majority of the class hasn't had any experience with brit. lit. she has her fav and doesn't explain things that well and if your not her fav and you ask a question she looks at you like..i guess all in all she's ok for lower level classes but the higher classes..no. shes gets to off track as well.
Dr. Gold is easy. She's interesting about some things. Sometimes she moves off topic, but she's easy!
My tip for anyone thinking about taking anything with Dr. Gold is to be very cautious. First, if you have no intrest in Milton, Keats,or Donne then do not take her class. Second, if you do happen to take her class stay on her good side. The second that you make her angry, which is very easy, she will grill you the whole semester.
Best teacher ever, loved her. So interesting and really makes you think about the material. If you love English, her classes will be your Nirvana. Don't take her class if you don't want to work hard. :-)
great teacher...funny
Dr. Gold is my favorite English teacher at SLU! She always attempts to interest the class and has a very fun yet quirky personality. Everyday is fun, and it makes you WANT to go to class. I don't think I missed a day all semester!
Warning.. Seriously, don't take this teacher if you're serious about English. She doesn't let you be creative. She wants everything to be in her style. It's not a class or a teacher to take if you want some individuality. She goes off topic a lot and the papers she gives you to write are not interesting at all and pointless. It's like taking 201 aga
I wouldn't recommend this teacher if you are serious about your education. I struggled in writing, which is an area I have never struggled before. She only told you what she wanted after you wrote the paper and the class is only out of 100 pts. This means your essays are graded harshly. Be careful.
Pretty good teacher. She can get annoying at times. She accused me of cheating once and it was completely untrue. Quizzes are easy, but exams are difficult to get through. They are too long to finish in the allotted time
She is so easy and she tells you exactly what she wants you to know! be sure to take good notes they really help on her exams!
Dr. Gold is my FAVORITE English teacher. She is HILARIOUS and always makes class interesting. Tests were not multiple choice, but it is still really easy to make an A in her class. LOVE HER!!!!
Dr. Gold is a pretty good teacher. She makes really a lot of jokes (most aren't funny). The tests are REALLY hard, but the quizzes are really easy as long as you read.
I've been a student at Southeastern for 5 years now working on my 2nd degree. This is the absolute worst teacher I have ever taken. The classes are not organized at all and are full with useless conversation with students about things not involving Eng Lit. Worst worst worst..rude lady, SLU should want better for their students bc she is horrible.
DO NOT TAKE HER. SHE IS SO RUDE I WISH I TAKEN SOMEONE ELSE, THE HARDEST TEACHER I KNOW AND I LOVE ENGLISH BUT SHE MADE ENGLISH SO HARD
She is super mean and always in a bad mood. She makes morning class unbearable. She rolls her eyes at me and she is so rude to some of the other students :( Avoid her & take Dr.Ply or you will be so very sorry. She picks favorites on the first day and that is that. You better pray you're one of them or else drop!
I love her! Yeah, she's sarcastic, but she's not mean, she's funny! She made my 8 am class something I look forward to, honestly. She's really into the subject and she talks about the characters like she's in the hair salon--TOO funny. She tells you exactly what you need to keep your eyes on in class (for exams) w/ the lecture. LOVE her.
Dr Gold is my absolute favorite teacher. I have taken her for three classes, and I don't feel that I really understood or appreciated anything I had read before taking her classes. I am thankful that I found someone who could teach me how to actually read. She is a gift to English majors.
She is pretty funny in her own strange way. She can be sarcastic and a little weird, but she's great. She doesn't explain assignments very well, so just keep asking questions until you understand. Do not throw anything away!! She picks back up some of your papers at the end of the semester.
She is very funny, and a nice lady, but not a very good teacher. She expects all of her students to be English majors. Also, the whole class is only worth 100 points so if you slip up on an assignment, you can pretty much say goodbye to an A. She drifts away from the topic very often. First test wasn't until after the drop date. Do not take her.
She's so funny. Just do your work and participate in class. She made my 8 o'clock class worth coming to and kept things interesting. Loved this class.
I LOVE DR.GOLD. I don't get why she's got such a mediocre rating. She's really clever and funny and so cute (in a little oldish lady way). I am an English major, so I may be a little biased, but I love her. Seriously, just do the assignments and talk to her (during or outside of class) and you will get an A. She's great.
Madam Gold is an inspirational and fabulous teacher. My dream is to be like the courteous Sir Gawain and to be sufficient like Milton. I just wish she would slow down so I could take notes. I love you Eva Gold!
Loved her Shakespeare class! Because the class is worth 100 points total, you have to show up every day. We only had two tests: the midterm and final, which were based on quotations from the plays.
Dr. Gold offers a wealth of knowledge to students interested in literature, and, in my opinion, her quick wit makes the class more enjoyable than any other I've taken at SLU (and I've taken a few). She won't hold your hand the whole semester, but if you read the materials and put forth an honest effort toward your assignments, you will do well.
This is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She lost your assignments and blames it on you. She is very unorganized and gets off subject very easily and the class is only worth 100 points so you cant afford for her to lose your assignments!! Do not take her!!!!
This teacher is wonderful! Expect to be in class every time and you HAVE to do your work, but she is very nice and as long as you've done something she'll give you points. Tests are a data dump, just tell her everything you know. Take notes about everything! I made an A+. Loved her!
She is an awesome teacher! Her class was one of my favorites so far! Dont listen to her bad ratings. She gives you points just for trying! As long as you turn something in you get your points. I was nervous about her tests until I actually took one. They are an information dump! Just write everything you know about the story and you get points
Gold is interesting. People say she is hard, but it is the grades that are hard. Her classes are 100 points so every 1-point "stupid" assignment that you could skip in another class counts. But she does gives points for trying and her tests are an information dump. She is witty and jokes with her students in class. Show up, take notes, do the work.
What a waste of time. I used to love Dr. Gold, then she went crazy. I don't think she has ever planned her class more than 5 minutes in advance. Looks for plagiarism in everything! You cannot have a good idea in a paper without her accusing you of plagiarism. She does not know how to teach students who are not good at Shakespeare. NEVER AGAIN!
Attendence is key. Not only being there, but turning in the 2 point assignments she assigns. They will make or break your grade. Her tests are 5 essay questions. One poetry project w/ test. Read the selections and pay attention when she goes over the readings and you'll do fine. Very sarcastic lady, don't let it get to you.
I LOVE THIS WOMAN. She's so snarky-it's the best. She gets so excited about Shakespeare and knows her stuff. I wasn't a fan of the daily assignments but it's an easy way to boost your grade. Only A+ I've ever gotten on a college essay. I'd take her again in a heartbeat. 2 exams are essay questions about quotes that she explains in class.
I love Dr. Gold's British Lit class! There's a lot of people that apparently don't like her but I think she's great. She is really into the subject, and she actually made this subject interesting for me. Her 2-point assignments are very time-consuming, BUT as long as you try a little bit, you'll get the credit for them. Don't be so hard on her!
I was looking forward to British literature but I got to this class and lost interest quick. We started reading stuff and she ran right through it like it was nothing and in class she went off topic too much. I often found myself just sitting there waiting to go half the time. I also don't like how she gives all this work and it's worth nothing
SHE IS PERFECT. Pay attention, write down everything she says, go to class (she lets out early every class) so funny
She goes way too fast. Some people can keep up with her if they really know their stuff but your basically just teaching yourself and listening to her interpretations of the story. Had to take again unfortunately.
Dr. Gold is one of my favorites! Pay attention in class and you will do fine on the exams. She is BIG on analysis so look for hidden meanings. Remember, when it comes to analysis there are no wrong answers. Just show how you got to your opinion and you can't go wrong. Don't EVER use smoop! It is the bane of her existence. Love her classes!
An okay teacher. There are no essays. She does assign homework like once a week according to the text that is being read. She gets off subject very easily sometimes. Overall a good teacher just do your homework and pay attention in class.
Just a few warnings: There are only 2 tests, which is basically a midterm and a final, and there is a poetry project. Her entire class is out of 100 points. She does not use percentages, so if you want an A, you can only lose 10 points total, which is frustrating. She is pretty inconsistent too. She also never posts grades on moodle.
Not very helpful at all. There is no way to know what she is going to ask on her midterm and final, and there is hardly any way to prepare for it. She expects everyone to be English majors in this class. She always gets off topic in class as well; expects you to go to class, but she does not make good use of the time. Would not recommend at all.
I didn't enjoy the class mostly because I was unaware of my grade the entire course. She doesn't post to moodle which makes it difficult to know how well you're doing. She doesn't stay on track during lectures although she's very funny and nice. I learned more on my own that in class.
Prof. Gold tends to go off topic a lot during class. In the past I have never struggled in an English class. Her constant rambles during lecture make it hard to keep focus. She only gives 2 tests (all questions are short answer) and a poetry project. She does hand out attendance points every now and then so you might want to attend class.
I absolutely love her. She makes this class easy to understand and enjoyable. I feel like almost every person that rates these professors does poorly in the class. I was thinking about English education as my second major, and taking this class has confirmed my decision. She gives lots of opportunities for extra points (even just coming to class).
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I REPEAT DO NOT! I never had a problem in English before until I meant this lady. Its extremely hard to keep up with your grade in this class. If you want to spend 45 minutes of the class talking about things that have nothing to do with the test well by all means go straight ahead.
I came into Dr. Golds class loving English. I now cant wait for this semester to be over. She is difficult to follow and tends to get off subject a lot. She can be very sarcastic and abrasive at times. If you can avoid her, you should. Good luck!
Dr. Gold is absolutely amazing. Have an open mind and prepare to write heavily on symbolism and you'll do fine!
I think she is a very good professor. If You dont go to class you wont know whats going on, she makes everything very easy to understand and gives good hints at what the tests will be like and what will be on them. Shes sarcastic and funny, makes the lecture interesting. I really enjoyed her class.
No, you are not required to go to every class, but it is essential to doing well in the class. The more you show up, the better you will do (obviously). Show some effort, show you care, do what she tells you to do (it's usually not that bad), and have fun! She makes the material fun. She understands the material well and has a good sense of humor.
She's a very nice person but tends to get off track WAY too much. Someone who is nowhere near an English Major, she acts like I am one. The test are very short but you must read the play that the test is on or else you will fail it because the answers must be VERY specific. Just if you take her be prepared to teach yourself.
She's an amazing teacher, even though i may not the best at English I did enjoy her class. Interaction to the students and the novel. Test is simple is everything she will question from the book and is a paragraph long.
She gets WAY off track in class and wastes a LOT of time. She goes way too fast in class. She just reads a few lines here and there and shows random videos. When it comes to grades on tests and assignments, she cannot justify them and has lame excuses as to why we can't see the work that we have turned in. If you have options, don't take her
My least favorite professor so far. Grading is not clear and she is so rude. I feel like I don't get any valuable information from this class and would be better off teaching it to myself.
Not a bad professor to take BUT you will not get an A. She is a very tough grader, but the assignments are not hard. She can never really explain why she graded you how she did. But she is sweet, and will answer questions regarding assignments/ reading.
I've taken Dr. Gold before, and I enjoyed her, so that's what I decided to take her again. However, the second time round, I had a lot more issues with her class. Almost all of our grades were group projects where we had to teach ourselves and our classmates the material. She's also very sassy. I would not take her again.
Ms Gold is a very nice person, but I didn't like her as a teacher. All our assignments were group projects n she wanted us to teach ourselves the material. Doesn't clearly describe her grading criteria n is a hard/strange grader. Doesn't give study materials for the tests n just tells us to study each other's answers (don't know what's correct/not)
Gets off-topic a LOT. Is very rude. Expects you to treat her class like it's the only class you're taking. Very tough grader, doesn't explain what she wants for assignment nor what exactly she is grading you on. Doesn't allow you to use textbook w/ texts/plays on the exam, yet wants a ridiculous amount of detail & exact quotes from text. DONT TAKE!
Shes gives 2 tests and a final. The test are pretty easy. She doesnt explain why you got what you got on a test. All assignments are pretty much group projects.
Dr. Gold is great but she gets off topic a lot. She cares for her students and tries to make the lectures interesting by giving lots of different resources. My only complaint is that she's not very clear on grading, but don't be afraid to ask her to clarify because she will. The main thing is to ask questions if you don't understand something.
She was an okay professor. She expected us to teach each other the material and every assignment was a group project. We never really went over anything in class. For the tests we had to study the other groups work. So if that group got something wrong you would get it wrong on the test. Didnt make much sense and she has a lot of attitude.
DO NOT online class. Grading expectations are not very clear. Midterm and Final are the only tests, and only 3-4 homework assignments are given for a grade, and she takes off random points with no reasoning. Have to listen to all the lectures and be able to do the long study questions given for each reading to do good on the midterm and final.
Teacher made things political in her classroom.
