He's the man, funny quirky guy who drops a lot of funny 90's references in class, teaches the course extremely well and has plenty of office hours. Only issue was his test could be quite hard but it's worth it for this memorable and inspiring teacher
He wasn't a bad professor. He really tries but he's boring so I couldn't really pay attention. Nonetheless he's alright.
The department final was tough but he did his best to make sure we were prepared for it. He's a fair grader and is always available if you have questions. He responds to emails quickly too. Great professor. I recommend taking him.
He is the best math professor at Baruch. I took him for pre calc and again for Calc as he was very helpful as a teacher. He really wants you to do well and will curve the tests if kids dont do well. Definitely take him as you will never get a better math professor than Fink.
he explains very clearly about the materials which was helpful to study final department test. if you ask questions frequently during office hour you would pass the test. I think he is one of awesome professors in Baruch.
Good Professor, he explains his material very clearly. He is great at teaching computer programming. He is also fair. One of the very few great math professors at Baruch. You can take your chances with him. :)
Loved Professor Fink. He makes the dorkiest comments and they brightens up an otherwise boring subject. Loved the way he taught class, I came to understand pre-calc really easily. It might seem a bit tough having 4 question quizzes so often, but he drops a lot of quizzes and webworks and tries his best to bring up your grades. Great guy!
I LOVE this professor. He's HILARIOUS and kind. We have homework due every Thursday, and he doesn't even make you buy the textbook - he emails you copies of the book! He's definitely my favorite prof. Told us to call him by his first name. He's a great guy and his class is enjoyable.
Professor Fink makes the class very fun and interesting. He is very clear and you will learn a lot. The tests are 90% normal questions. There will be 1 questions that is difficult, but he is very generous with partial credit. To sum it up, take his class if you can, he is fair and reasonable.
Gives a lot of work, but makes it difficult to fail. Goes over webwork and textbook problems. A lot of quizzes but they're easy. Goes over tests as well. By the time you take the final, you'll know the material really well. Very kind and helpful.
Evan is great! He def cares about his students. not to great on curves though. lots of people did poorly on the final but did well in the class but that wasnt his fault because the final was departmental. hwk almost every week and quizzes every monday. don't miss a class or u will regret it. i would def recommend him!
Great Prof. very caring and easy grader!
Evan is the best. He always tries to accommodate his office hours to student's needs and gives awesome feedback. He throws in some jokes in the middle of the lecture so you'll never be bored with him. His tests are challenging as he prepares you for the departmental final. So do good on his test and you will ace the final. Will miss this guy.
Fink lacks a lot of real experience teaching. The problem is he affects negatively students' performance in the middle of the semester. Forn 2000 level may be an option. For 4000 level? take someone real.
doesn't know how to deal with students that know more than him, yes, he was asked many times on a variety of topics and his answer was "sorry, I not prepared for that" , come on now, and he is phd in math? Also, since smart people were in his class he gave super hard test and final to level class down, what about that. Fink,go and teach Pre-Algebra!
ALWAYS available for class hours and gives amazing lectures. The dude is a genius. You can tell he is a genuinely nice person who cares for his students. Additionally, he gives very good study sheets for his exams also.
Fink was the best math professor I took. He explains the material so clear and precise. I took the final today and I was so prepared. He breaks things down for you and makes you understand the material. You could tell he is a genuine good person and he's corny funny! absolutely loved him .DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Fink is the best! So cute and funny. I loved his class and actually learned something. He makes it very hard for you to do poorly because he explains everything. No surprises, clear and fair grading. No question is stupid. He should teach a variety of classes. This was the only class I looked forward to attending.
Inspirational professor, the effort he puts into the class makes you want to put your best foot forward as well. Unlike some other professors at Baruch.
He is the BEST professor anyone can possibly have in Baruch. His personality makes his lectures more interesting. Always went the extra mile for his students so they can succeed. Words cannot describe how great of a professor he is. DO EVERYTHING HE ASSIGNS and you'll do well on the departmental final!
Beyond inspirational and caring. He puts in so much effort. You also have to put in a lot of work, but he's always there to help you. Lots of assignments though. Quizzes every Tuesday. You can ask as many questions as you want, and he'll spend time explaining everything over. One of the best professors I've ever had. Wish he taught more math.
Best math professor in the Baruch. Very patient guy, he can stay half hour after class for students who have questions. Explain things very clearly. Like his lecture.
Phenomenal teacher! He is so clear , and thorough , does many examples in class , gets everyone to participate , no question is a dumb one, will answer your emails. He gives quizzes every other class , keeping you up to date! His tests aren't tricky, but you must study! I highly recommend him , and look forward to taking him next semester!
He is the best math professor I met in Baruch! Very young, charming, and intelligent guy with humor. Sometimes he is so cute when he make some jokes. Trust me he teaches very well and make you prepared for the exam! Lots of homework but it is math you need to practice! Thanks professor and I hope to take his class again in the future!
The greatest math teacher I had in my entire life. Never had a more clear and specific teacher at Baruch college. He is always willing to help students during his office hours, and even after class. If I have the opportunity to take him again, there is no doubt in my mind that I will.
Loved him! Amazing teacher! He is so clear and so helpful. He explains all the topics and concepts so clearly. You will definitely be prepared for the tests, especially the final. If I had to take another math class, I only would if he was my professor! If there's a spot available in his class- TAKE IT!
Prof. Fink is the best professor at Baruch. He is very intelligent and it shows in his lectures and personal interactions. He is very strict at grading, but he is always at office hours to explain concepts. I highly recommend him!
EVAN FINK IS A WORTH WHILE TEACHER. TOOK HIM FOR CALCULUS, GOT A B+ I WORKED FOR MY GRADE. MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN THE TIME TO STUDY AND YOU WILL DO FINE. THIS TEACHER IS CLEAR AND MOST OF ALL VERY HELPFUL. HIGH RECOMMENDED FOR PRE CALC AND CALCULUS
EXCELLENT PRPFESSOR. Lots of Homeworks and Quizzes. Tough Exams. But wonderfully explains every concept.
Take him. Explains everything clearly. He really takes the time to make sure you understand. Tests are a little bit tough, but just do the practice exams. Would take again.
A lot of hype around this guy but his teaching methods are way overrated. Goes extremely fast and you have to be a genius to understand him! His exams and HW's are tough and they don't even help on the final! I had him last semester and I still regret it. Taking it over with a diff professor and I have an A!.. Save yourself and your GPA!
best teacher for math
For starters, he is one of the most helpful professors I've seen. He would hold review sessions and stay after class just to clarify something. All the grades and homeworks were on webassign so everything is pretty clear, and if you ask for homework extensions with legitimate reasons he permits it. He's also super nice, should definitely take.
good things are... great professor, helpful, give review bad things are.. touch grader, too fast, sometimes will make you lost. You will have 3 exams. neither too easy nor too hard.. he mixed between. You have to do HW every week. He grades based on syllabus. NO CARVED. Overall. This class is defend on how your final grade is!!!
Professor Fink was a great professor, always willing to help during office hours and even after class sometimes. He, however; is a tough grader and expects you to be responsible with the work and material. As long as you're in class, pay attention, and make an effort to learn, you'll be fine. He's also funny and a great person!
He's a good professor. Extremely funny but you have to pay attention in his class or you'll be lost.
Clear, friendly, and welcoming. But even the nicest professor in the world won't guarantee you a pass. For first time Calc takers, this class is a slap in the face with gross amounts of material. Professor is nothing short of amazing but his exams reflect nothing on the departmental final. You will have to find outside practice of your own. 14hours
Not the easiest!!! But the Best CALC Teacher!!! He purposely makes his test harder than the departmental final because it's extremely long and hard. I struggled with all 3 of his tests by getting 70s, but then I was fully prepared for the final, and got a 93. Just do the practice tests and go to his office hours and review sessions to get the A
One of the best math professors at Baruch, and one of the reasons why the mathematics department is great. Really cares about his students and wants them to do the best they possibly can. Analysis is a tough and abstract subject, but he tried his best to break it down into understandable terms. Take him if you get the chance to.
Not only a great man, but also a great professor. Teaches very clearly, so you'll learn a lot. The quizzes and tests aren't that hard, but he barely curved anything. He is willing to help you in office hours if you don't understand the material. He genuinely cares for students, plus he's very funny. I not only recommend him, implore you to take him
Fink is one of the most helpful professors you can ever have. He is ALWAYS available outside of class to clear up anything that wasn't understood in class. The in class lecture is slightly unorganized, but still understandable. Homework questions help immensely as practice is key. Moderate exam difficulty. 3 Midterms, 1 Final, 7 Quizzes, and HW.
The best math professor at Baruch!!! Very nice guy!!!!! His lecture is very well organized and prepared! Highly recommend!
THIS GUY WAS AMAZING!! ITS IS ALOT OF ONLINE HW, BUT DOING THE HOMEWORKS WILL HELP YOU TRULY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WENT OVER IN CLASS. YOU DONT REALLY NEED THE TEXT BOOK, HIS NOTES WILL DO THE JOB. HE NORMALLY STAYS AFTER CLASS IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AND HE WILL REALLY HELP YOU OUT IF YOU PUT THE EFFORT.
Best professor in Baruch. Truly cares about his students. There is a lot of online HW but its pretty easy and it's from the lectures. His exams are easy and he gives you clear notes and step by step guides. Don't take anyone else but him.
The best professor ever!! He is a very good explainer. If you pay attention in his class, take notes, and do homework then it's an easy A. There are quite a lot of online homework but they are very helpful for his exams.
A real GEM!!! Especially for Calc, which is a very tough class. Just take him and he will make calc very easy to understand and will be there to always help you. Very responsive to emails and very flexible office hours. Pre-calc and alegbra is a must if not you will have a difficult time even with the best teacher. DO HW!! Review notes!!!
Professor Fink is my all time favorite math professor. He's very whimsical and cool. He puts the material in the course in the most simplest way possible for you and tries his BEST to help you. Going to office hours and using Piazza will really help you towards your final grade. Overall, great professor, exams are based on notes and online homework
Fink is a true gem. He cares about his students and wants u to learn. Thats why he writes all his practice problems and test questions, so you cant find recycled q's from online, like other teachers do. Coding can be tricky at first-Fink explains everything so you fully understand how to code and so you can transfer those skills to other languages.
Finally, a professor at Baruch who is passionate and enthusiastic about the material they are teaching! He has a nice, methodological approach, making the topics easy to grasp. Also, he is really accessible outside of class--both through email and you can usually find him in his office, always willing to help. THE MAN! Would take again 100%
THE BEST math teacher I've ever had. I took precalc and this class twice until I passed. Things never made sense until Professor Fink explained them. He's organized w his notes (also posts all online). Very clear in lectures, encouraging questions. Enthusiastic and is always available to help, online and in office. Don't take anyone else!!
Best Math Professor/Prof in general. Makes everything so clear and doesn't stop until you understand it. The class is tough, with a departmental final, but if you have to take it, take it with him!!
Really good at covering the material thoroughly. Explains so everyone can understand and stays after to answer questions, or email him anytime. 3 midterms decently hard. Online homework with unlimited tries. Goes a little fast but if you're taking calc then take him. He wants you to do well, so if you put in some effort you'll be fine.
Doctor Fink is one of the best math professor. Cool guy. Highly recommend taking him. Explains the materials clearly and shows examples. There are many homeworks but it will prepare you for the finals. 3 exams and a final.
I took Fink for 3300 and he is a true gem. For Linear Algebra, he is just as good, but I would recommend someone easier. He emphasizes a lot of proofs on the exams (25/100 pts) and made it harder than his classes in the past since he has found out people think his upper level math classes are easier. Great professor, but maybe take someone else.
Dr Fink is hands down one of the most genuine, caring, hardworking, intelligent professors at Baruch. He goes out of his way to ensure that you understand the material. He is available Mon-Fri for extra help (and he is flexible with his timing), he has a great personality and sense of humor. He makes you want to learn and makes you eager, take him!
Professor Evan Fink is one of the best math professor in Baruch. He gave 2 midterms and one final. There are eight homework assignments, these hw are pretty easy if you pay attention on his class. He also gave review question before his exams. The exams are fair, you can bring 10 pgs cheat sheet. He also replies emails pretty fast.
Professor Fink is a great guy, always available for help. True an honest teacher, he will make sure to prepare for final
Fink is undoubtedly a gem for the math dept, and he did a great job teaching 4135 (Monte Carlo) for the first time. Some of the coding assignments are hard, so make friends with others in the class to work on them together. Tests are fair, and similar to the practice questions he gives. Very interesting class to take, a must take in my opinion.
Professor Fink is an extremely caring teacher. He teaches the material very clearly and will make extra effort to meet you outside of class and answers any questions you have. Wouldn't want to have taken calc 2 with anyone else.
He is really GOOD!! Clear lecture and he explains well. 3 test and a Dep Final. Read the textbook it can help with some problems. The H.W's can be long, but it will help prepare for the exams.
So I took him for Summer Semester, and he is by far the best MTH professor I've ever had. He is easily accessibly and always willing to help and explain concepts and HW. He explains things in such a way that everything makes sense and there's nothing missing. If you need to boost your GPA with a math class, definitely take it with him.
Honestly, Evan is an awesome calc Professor. Hes extremely helpful and patient. He is so enthusiatic about math which is awesome compared to other professors. Hes also wickedly knowledge about the topic and always available to help. He truly cares. Great laughs as well.
Evan is the best professor, he teaches you everything you need to know in his lectures. He provides extra credit, although very minimal change, it is still provided. Amazing individual!
Very difficult course for non-math major students. Final is cumulative, which is really a torture. Exams are extremely difficult and he doesn't curve at all. Hate math more after taking his class!
He is one of the best math professor at Baruch. Strongly recommend him. You wont regret. You will get, what you deserve in his class.
Evan is an amazing professor. He is really good at teaching the curriculum and clearly knows what he's doing. My only concern was that the test he gave us was WAY WAY harder than anything he gave in class but I suppose he makes up for this by allowing 10 pages of cheat sheets. Honestly you can't go wrong with him.
No curve at all. If you dont have prior coding experience good luck
No curving makes it extremely hard for some to do well in this class. Me included. If you have no background experience than you will struggle in this class as I did. Although he's a good teacher I doubt more than a handful got an A- or A
He's the only teacher in the math department that doesn't curve.
Great teacher in terms of teaching the material correctly. Understood everything for the most part but test can be difficult. He is a very tough grader.
His lectures were amazing, particularly for a math class. Very enthusiastic professor that explained the material clearly. Around average in terms of difficulty, but curves your final course grade.
He's a truly amazing professor. He's always ready to help, he's funny, understanding, nice, intelligent, etc.
Amazing professor. Very caring and wants to make sure you pass the class. Very available to help with whatever questions you have. Very entertaining and funny. Made calculus be an interesting class. He does a very good job and explaining the topics and makes sure you understand it well.
I took calc one seven semesters before I registered for calc two - Evan was able to teach so well that the gaps in what I didn't remember weren't a problem. He has an amazing personality for a math professor, but don't mistake him for an easy A.
The class is fun especially the proof part. Exams are doable. Of course it requires you put effort.
Good teacher; explains math well. You get what you deserve; he doesn't curve anything even half a point.
Wouldve liked if this professor went at a speaking voice that was normal instead of rushing through material. This professor was decent at teaching but gave no curves, no extra credit, doesnt drop anything your grade stays how it is. Prepare to work hard for yourself because he isnt very generous.
Evan is the man! Has unmatched enthusiasm and is amazing at teaching. Easily one of the best professors in this school. He is a fair and just grader, he wont give u what u didn't earn. Always willing to help if u are falling behind in class, just come to his office hours. The class itself is moderately challenging.
Phenomenal teacher! He takes the time to explain difficult concepts and is always willing to answer questions. The lectures are a blast with his animated but informative teaching style. Almost always a quiz at the beginning of class based on the previous class lecture. 3 exams, and you can bring in up to 10 pages of notes for each. Take him!
Evan is the best math profs I've taken. Gives clear instructions no matter for hw or exams. Always give feedback and response email very fast. I have never taken any coding class before and he made everything super clear. 2 midterms and 1 final. You can use 10 pages of notes, front and back. 100% recommended and absolutely will take again!!
I took this class with almost no prior experience coding and it was hard. He's a really good professor and does his best to help you, but you need to work for that A if you want it. Not easy but definitely worth taking.
Awesome professor! Some problems on the exams are difficult, but he is a lenient grader. His lectures are amazing. He teaches in a way that helps you understand the material, even if you haven't programmed before. I found HW to be easier than exams because I had more time to do it and check my work. You can use his lecture notes on exams.
Hes funny and very helpful when needed but his homework assignments are ridiculous compared to what we do in the lecture. Makes it really hard to follow along. Most of what we have to do for homework assignments arent taught entirely in lectures.
Wow! I just finished a summer course with Prof. Fink. He explained ALL the concepts intuitively and helped turn a hard class into an easy and fun one. Although he does may throw in a tough question on his exam, he grades the VERY leniently. The grade is mainly composed of 2 exams, 1 Final, and his daily quizzes.
Lectures are easy, HWs are hard, and tests are in the middle.
Prof Fink is very knowledgable and passionate about the material--which is something u want from a calc prof. Calc is a hard class in general-one of the hardest at Baruch. If u can take Prof Fink, he cares abt his students and tries his best to help u pass
AMAZING. Second semester taking a class with him, and honestly he keeps getting better and better. He is an amazing teacher who truly loves what he does. I recommend him 100% if you actually want to learn.
FINK IS A BOSS. I had qualms about this semester's online format, but he explained concepts perfectly and kept everyone engaged. Programming HWs are intellectually stimulating and challenging, but reasonable. I found the exams to be a bit easier actually. Hope he doesn't leave too soon, because we public school students need loving too.
This class is MAD HARD! Homework every week and quiz every meeting! He has office hour, please USE that chance to ask about homework or some stuff that u don't understand. Have 4 exams, the final is cumulative! Take him!
Quiz at the beginning of every class, hw once a week, 3 exam+ 1 final. Easy quiz, hard hw, exam are in between. The class is hard but you'll learn a lot. He always hosts extra office hours and replies to emails quickly. Take him if you actually want to learn something.
The worst Professor I had at Baruch. He shouldn't teach programming. He should stick with Math. I felt like he was judging my intelligence. When in reality, he was just a bad programming teacher. I am pretty sure most of his students knew python before taking the class. They just took his class for credit and name(Algorithms..).
Evan Fink is my favorite professor at Baruch College. He is approachable, down-to-earth, and, above all, inspirational. He always has time outside of class whether you are falling behind or looking to get ahead. Absolutely the best!
Evan is one of my favorite professors at Baruch. Can you imagine a professor hold more than one hour of office hours per day? Evan did it for his students during the summer. Exams are not hard, at least get 88 above if you studied. He is a real gem if you see negative reviews, don't buy it.
VERY VERY clear and organized notes! The exams are about the same level as hw and his practice problems. His lecture covers most of the P EXAM. Make sure to study at the beginning of each class for quiz. He doesn't waste time on proof and gives us more practice. Not a hard class if you study and do your hw.
Took him to replace my F. If you need to take 4120, take it with Evan. He genuinely cares about his students and is always available when help is asked. 3 exams + 1 final + weekly hw + quiz almost every lecture at the beginning. Not an easy class, but he tries to make it as easy as possible. His corny math jokes are also nice
Great professor, definitely makes math lectures more interesting than they have any right to be. Just be ready to study because its a math class.
Professor Fink is a nice person. However, he makes his exams extremely hard. He doesnt give out extra credit and your grade will depend on your midterm and final. If you screw up you are done. Only 10% was hw and 6% was quiz. Rest is on 3 midterms and final. I wouldnt recommend taking him.
Professor Fink is a nice professor. He gives quizzes at the start of every class only worth 6% of overall grade. Class is heavily weighted on exams and the final is comprehensive too
Very nice guy. Gave two exams and a final (all of them are written). 7 codelabs assignment, each with ten questions. 10 coding assignments (you have a week to finish them). I found the 2 exams easy, but I know most of the class did not see it that way. The final was harder than his other exams. Is also easily accessible outside of class.
Professor Fink is an extremely courteous and considerable person, however his class is very hard but I think that has more to do with the material than his style of teaching. He does a good job at breaking down very difficult topics, and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Lots of laughs in class. He loves his job and it shows. Would take again.
no clear understand
hard homeworks
I will preface by saying this course is not easy, BUT Evan made this course so enjoyable, so much so that it brought back my love of math. The HWs will take a good chunk of time and exams are tricky, but Evan is always around to help through office hours, after class, and the majority of the day. Focus in class and study after and you'll be good
Professor Fink is probably my favorite math professor here at Baruch. Took two classes (this + mth3300) with him, he is always energetic and he also has some good jokes to share lol. He is a fair grader, an excellent teacher, and his class is very well organized. the work is not light but he makes himself available after class. Take him.
BRO if u are not ready to take pressure, I do recommend not to take him.He is probably one of the most caring prof. However, his test are tricky and the assignment will take a lot of time. He will try his best to make u understand and the class itself also hard. So, don't take him if you are a full time student and taking other courses as well.
Cool guy and a great professor, but the exams are really hard. Always willing to answer questions, discrete is just a really hard class to begin with.
Accessible outside of class. Lots of homework, but has many office hours and always available to help. Tests were difficult, but fair if you understood the material well. Overall, really great and caring professor.
He realized the first exam was tough so he made sure the second midterm and final were easier. I took MTH3300 (python) with him and thought that class was easy, but c++ is considerably more difficult, especially with the topic he covers. He is extremely accessible and also curves depending on class average. Homeworks are also pretty tough.
I agree with most of the reviews, but one thing that was odd was how obvious it was that he had favorites in the class. They would get away with things, which I wasn't really a fan of. Anyways, I loved his lectures and learned a ton, which is what matters! :)
Super caring & accessible outside of class. Every CS major should take Discrete Math with this professor, easy A. If you spend hours fully grasping the tricky HW assignments, you'll do well on the exams. The exams are not hard, just tricky like the HW's. But just practicing HW's will make you better with proofs as its all about pattern recognition.
Mid semester review. Fink is extremely caring and has like 50 million office hours lol. MTH 4300 is a semi-hard class overall, but he moves at decent pace, not to fast or slow. If you are stuck on anything, he will take the extra time to help you! Don't take this class together with 2 or more math classes like me because it'll be a lot of work!
A fantastic professor. Assignments and exams are difficult, but it is a difficult class & Evan does his best to help. He is very accessible outside of class and does a good job at keeping lectures engaging.
The best math professor one could ask for. He makes sure that everyone understands the topic. The exams are pretty easy as long you practice and study well. He gives practice exams before each exam which is super helpful. He has a lot of office hours. He is very caring of his students.
Great professor. Very smart guy. Very accessible outside of class, in office and email. 3150 is a very hard course itself, but he made it tolerable. Weekly graded HWs were difficult, like exams, but HW helped prepare. Posts lot of study material for exams. Lectures organized well. 3 exams and 1 final, weekly quizzes are easy grade boosters.
This professor is phenomenal. If you take his class you'll see what real teaching is. He explains everything so clearly. He's always available outside class and willing to re-explain things. He's always considerate, willing to listen and answer questions. Take his class so you tuition justifies itself.
Professor Evan is the greatest living professor I have ever met. The way he explains the concept is crystal clear; his lecture slides are well-organized and distributed before class, making it very convenient to take notes. His enthusiasm and passion for teaching are phenomenal.
Das my goat!
Evan Fink is amazing! He's funny, a great lecturer, and he's accessible outside of class. His exams are tough but he gives practice exams and doing his hard homework will help you prepare for the exams. One of the best math professors at Baruch!
Great Professor, this is an upper level math course but mainly focuses on object oriented programming in C++ so be prepared to code a lot. Difficult work, but you learn a lot in the class.
I used to hate math so much but Professor Fink made it so much easier to understand. He was born to teach and he's INCREDIBLY smart. There is not one question he doesn't know the answer to. Always available and responsive. Best professor I've ever had. If you want to make math less painful, take him. Weekly homework, EASY quizzes (grade booster).
