Friendly, very willing to help, but you do need to go to class
good math teacher. Tests are fair, just go to class
Nice guy and really fair on tests. Do your work and DON'T SKIP and you'll be ok.
Good teacher. Grades very nice and gives partial credit on tests
Gives partial credit...a lot of it! Sometimes confusing!
Very monotone, boring, doesn't make it interesting at all. Would not recommend
Non-professional, poor accesibiliy, difficult to follow in lesson
Easy lecture, but go to class. Homework grade is inclass activities also.

very boring, loves calc. too much
He explained nothing. Very boring, and confussed me a person who had pre clac
does he even know how to do math??
very confusing, things he teaches in class has nothing to do with homework.

don't count on him to teach you algebra, have already taken it and attend class
Makes you look like a fool if you don't understand. Boring class.
Think he should be attending class, he can't teach.
show up get help and you will pass
When he answers questions, all he does is confuse you more.

good person, bad math teacher. He doesnt think clearly while teaching and skips steps constantly. very unclear and boring.
he is a very good proffesor. The math teacher I had in high school taught where you didn't understand the subject what so ever. I get much clarity with his explanations and examples.
Avoid him like the plague. He is inept. GVSU should monitor his classes. He should not be teaching as he has no skill for it. Only those extremely proficient in math should sign up for his classes & prepare to be bored.
Professor Gross knows what he's doing in math, and is intelligent, but his teaching skills could be better. Tests are somewhat hard but fair, and the pace of his class is pretty quick.
Very hard material. If you need help get it. He will help you! Everyone should be able to pass this class with effort. Great person!
His classes are really boring and he acts like he is on speed or something. He doesn't explain things very well but expects you to know how to do it. DO NOT take this Professor if you are not that great at Math.
don't take him unless you have a good math knowledge. goes through lecture quickly, but the class itself is easy. lots of worksheets and stuff to raise your grade. drops 5 lowest grades. VERY EASY CLASS. nice guy
Goes through things fast but does a good job explaining. Goes over any problems during class. Good teacher overall.
The man is a machine...you just keep going and going...2 sections a day and you stay for the whole 1hr 50 mins unless there is a test and then its only 1 hr and like 45 mins
good teacher, understanding
Very helpful and intelligent (knows his math).Lots of take home quiezes/worksheets which can get u many points vs just few exams.
I spent more time writing down examples of his abuse of math lingo (i.e. equations were referred to as "things") than I did listening to his lectures. Don't take unless you are good at learning math on your own. Grading is fair (drops 5 lowest
Only take this teacher if you've had this before and you are justt trying to review and get the easy A. Otherwise you may get left behind because he's fast and trig is not the easiest thing to comprehend.
Take this man for mth110 if you want an easy A. He makes it painless with lots of extra points. On the exams he does not put the hardest problems - he wants you to know how to basically do the problem, he doesn't want to trick you.
He's very clear and explains things well. Unlike some teachers, he understands that MAth 110 atudents really aren't that interested in math, and that we're here because we have to. He does everything outside of taking the test for us to make sure we pass.
Best MTH prof at GVSU! Makes it easy. Show up, listen, and get an A. Didn't even open the book.
pretty easy class. it's long though so you're gonna get bored. if you show up and do good on the quizzes and in class stuff you'll get a pretty easy A. i haven't even opened my book and i missed 3 classes and i still have a high B. nice guy, knows that most people there aren't into math. good guy.
Great prof. I would definitely recommend him for Trig. Math is not my forte, but I still received a pretty good grade. Willing to help students out if they're struggling. You don't really need the book.
Very nice guy, unfortunatly he isn't clear. If u learn by explinations then he might not be for you. Because he bores u and is hard to follow.
Honestly my high school math teachers were better, i don't understand you ppl! He explains things WAY too much and simply confuses you, if i didn't already know the material i would be in a lot of trouble!
Great Prof! I hate math and I didn't mind going to this class. He explains things really well, with a lot of examples and always let us out early. Definetly an easy A!
Nice teacher! VERY VERY easy class if attend class. Take home quizzes and easy 10 pt. homework assignments make it a very easy A. Test material are even sometimes straight from class examples!
Bland class, bland material, bland professor. Surely there must be someone more interested and interesting out there.
Well this class is horribly easy, I learned it all in 9/10th grade... aside from that, he's good at explaining to those who don't know it yet and he seems quite friendly.
this guys really easy, we never had to turn in our homework and since i knew how to do it all it kept my nights free from that. His tests arnt hard at all and the quizzes are good cuz he takes 10 out of like 13. he explains things well and will answer any questions you have about his notes. Def. Recommend this prof. he's easy to please.
Nice guy. He does what he can to teach a class of students that really show that they don't want to be there. Kind of boring, but overall I would recommend him.
evan was a horible teacher. i am suprised he even graduated from high school. he must of went to schoolcraft
Is kind of quiet when he comes into the class and it is hard to understand what he is saying, but then he starts to talk clearly. Explains things well and his tests are not hard, if you come to class you will do well
HATE math, have since middle school. This was required for grad. so here I am in it. He is nice! and explains stuff! odd person, though. However it is suggested that u take him!
strange guy...material is not very clear but he is willing to help in office hours...i did not like this class, exams were hard.
AWFUL! Don't take this prof!
HORRIBLE!!! Has no interaction skills and cannot project to class!
Um..run away!..he is very unapproachable, when i came to talk to him in his office he seemed annoyed that i even came!!..i swear something is wrong with him..he's always fidgeting and shaking..makes me get distracted..he never knows what he's doing in class!! dont take him!
He is so weird! Very fidgety. He should not be a professor. His class is sooooooooo boring. He's not really helpful when it comes to explaining information.
He flat out told us that if you get a 100% on a test, you're in the wrong class. 10 people in just my class failed the first class. People dropped the class like hotcakes. I was one of them... Instead of 122, I'm taking CS 160 next semester. My hate of math has returned.
Prof. Gross has a hard time projecting to his classes and giving off the impression that he knows what he's talking about. His uneasiness becomes distracting and it's almost impossible to concentrate. Every class is extremely boring. Only good thing is that he drops most of your worst grades.
Assignments and quizzes really help boost the grade. Word of advice about those though, definitely go and see him during his office hours to get help on those if needed. You will for sure get 100% because he will give you the answers. For the tests study those assignments and quizzes are you should be pretty good. Not a bad class easy wize.
Honestly probably one of the top 3 worst math teachers I have had. Cannot teach, does not project, very fidgety and nervous all the time. Does not go over enough examples-more concerned with getting material done with than the depth of knowledge. If I did not do well in math in HS, I would have been completely lost. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER!!!!!
Good guy, makes jokes to help pass the time. Its a two hour class and can seem to be long at times, but he covers the material really well. He is willing to go over any problems you have trouble on.Glad I had him.
Very nice guy, and is more than willing to help during office hours. but his teaching is not always clear and is hard to learn from. i learned primarily from the book and then asked him questions during office hours.
Evan is alright. You can bearly hear him! He is very shy at first but eventually he will warm up to the class. He is not very good at explaining things. If you are bad at math his class will be challenging, but he is very nice. He gives home work every weekend so don't forget.
Not a good teacher. He makes the class very boring, and he seems really uncomfortable teaching. He is a nice guy, just a bad teacher (Tests are easy though.
He's a good guy at heart, but not the best teacher. Don't sit in the back, because he mumbles a lot and talks under his breath. He likes what he does but if you have trouble in math, I'd get a professor that is more clear.
Not a good professor to have if you are not good at math. He is very knowledgable about the subject and knows it shows. But, he has a very poor way of teaching it. He likes to give pop quizzes, pay attention to him the days before class because he usually tells you. He doesn't seem to care if you pass or fail. Its better to show up for this class.
So easy! I went to class half the time and got an A. He's kind of boring, but the material was super easy. He's a funny guy, strong republican, and if you dish it out he'll give it right back. Makes for a good time.
Great teacher and helpful
Not a great professor. Class is easy if you show up, pay attention, and do the homework. He is kind of awkward and mumbles while teaching. If you're not good at math, don't take him.
I never went to class and got an A. I'm pretty good at math and most of this I learned in the 9th grade, but he drops half the assignments, quizzes, homework, and tests. It was the easiest A I've ever gotten. If you ask questions, he doesn't really help; he has this weird sarcastic way of answering. He thinks he's funny, and sometimes is. He's good
My math is not very strong but Im not bad at it. If you are like me dont take his class. Its ok at times but he doesnt explain very well and its really annoying.
Great professor, only math teacher I've had that managed to insert his (conservative) politics into class. Fun class.
Nice guy and a decent professor. Mumbles a bit during class but overall the class is easy if you show up and do the work necessary.
Pretty good prof if you break the awkward shell surrounding him and joke around with him. At first he seems really timid and it feels like he doesn't know how to teach but his pace is sometimes the problem. He drops a lot of stuff that you do poorly on which is sweet.
Alright Prof. tells exactly what will be on the test. Not a very confident teacher and mumbles a lot and does not show how to apply principals taught but shows how to do examples that will be tested.
Honestly, I went into this class dreading it because I've never been good at math. Just go to class because he gives pop quizzes and in class assignments that really help boost your grade. Try to sit towards the front because he tends to talk quietly. I'm really glad I had him because I ended up with an A-.
don't take his class unless you're good at math
This class is horribly boring, and he spends most of the time discussing one person's confusion. If you skip class, you will most likely miss something for points. He never returned emails and just doesn't seem to have people skills.
Boring class, but it is math. Prof did a great job answering any questions and spending as much time needed on something before moving on. Laid back but quiet. I absolutely dread math and hadn't taken math in ten years. Managed to pull a B+ in class. If you miss a lot, you will miss points for in class assignments and quizzes. Drops several grades.
A LOT OF WORK!!! You will pass the class if you do all the assignments and take all of the Pop Quizzes. Sit in front and participate..he grades better if you participate.
He is a horrible professor. Talks like he does not know what he is talking about. I dreaded going to this class. Does not know how to speak so the class gets annoying real fast. I would say try to find another teacher. NOT a good choice
You need to pay attention in class though he is very helpful definitely ask questions because he will answer them
Horrible Professor, isn't clear and doesn't answer question well. Definitly get out of his class
People bashing him are completely ridiculous. He is one of the most easy going individuals I know, never in a bad mood. The class was always enjoyable. Professor Gross is a good teacher and good guy. The exams are manageable and curved. Easy to pull of a decent grade with little effort.
I love Prof. Gross.! He was my favorite teacher this semester. He made my first semester of college enjoyable. He's clear, consise and helpful. Don't miss class though you'll get lost.
I love Prof. Gross.! He was my favorite teacher this semester. He made my first semester of college enjoyable. He's clear, consise and helpful. Don't miss class though ou'll get lost.
At first I wasn't so sure about him but at the end of the semester I loved him! He's very clear, extremely patient if you don't understand something and very helpful! Don't miss tests or quizzes, he won't let you make them up unless you have a legit reason and let him know beforehand. Very helpful outside of class as well! Definitely recommended.
He's not a very good professor. If you're good at math and don't mind teaching yourself, then take this class. He's kind of an awkward guy, and he teaches everything really fast without explaining things very well. He'll sort of give you help if you ask though (limited help). The problem is that he's not very good at explaining things.
Best Math professor I've ever had. I take a long time taking tests and he stayed after class to allow me to complete the final. He also looks like Seth Rogan if you squint your eyes.
I'm still on the fence about this professor. He is genuinely a good guy and will help you when you need it but when he gets in front of the class it's hard to understand what he is trying to teach. He teaches like he assumes you already know what he is talking about. Other then that, make sure to do all of the homework. It helps a great deal.
If you are fresh out of high school,& relatively good at math, can learn on your own, then take him. I found myself in at mathlab 3-4times a week. He rarely teaches concepts, mainly does examples on the board. I went to his office hours frequently &he would sometimes send me away to get instruction from the mathlab. I went to every class.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! It is so weird because he is really a nice guy but does not know how to teach a class. You basically have to teach yourself because when he stands up there he talks as if you know everything already and doesn't explain anything! Goes though problems without explanation. Do the HW/take homes and make sure its RT, it helps.
I would not Reccomend this guy. He goes through his examples very fast without explaining them well at all. Most of my class ended up in the math lab constantly, but most of the math lab couldnt even help with most of his assignments. Nice guy but avoid his class
Gross is the worst teacher I have ever had! He doesn't explain anything he goes through and he does these power stances that make him think he is superior to everyone. He acts like everyone already knows what he is talking about. His tests are also really long! Be prepared to stay there over an hour!
I really enjoyed have prof. gross. He is a really nice guy. He drops some of your lowest scores and the class was overall enjoyable for being a math class :) I would recommend taking his class
Gross was a great teacher. I've always sucked at math, especially trig, but he's good at what he does. He's smart but still knows how to communicate with the mathematically challenged. Highly recommended! All reviews for tests and the (optional but helpful) hw are straight out of the book. So get at it!
I can not stand him as a teacher. He is really bad at explaining things and I have to force myself to go to class. Then he does such a bad job at explaining things I always want to fall asleep. He is nice but does not know how to communicate. Also his exams are long and he is no very into partial credit.
Extremely helpful if you go to his office hours and he explains everything very well in class. Homework is optional but I suggest you do it so you get a good grade on your tests. The tests are difficult so make sure you study. He's more than willing to help his students learn and understand the course material. GREAT PROFESSOR!!
This prof wasn't overly difficult or easy. He's really socially awkward and doesn't know how to communicate. His class is incredibly boring, but he's a really nice guy. If you go to class and work through the homework, you'll be fine.
Very nice guy but the most socially inept professor I have ever had. He mumbles alot when explaining things and does a terrible job of that. awful.
Gross certainly didn't impress me as a professor, but he did a decent job of teaching. If I needed help, he was very willing to meet with me. His class isn't overly hard, but you need to pay attention and do the homework. Not the worst professor ever, but not worth going out of your way to have either.
Horrible professor! The worst I have had in college so far. He mumbles a lot and acts like we should already know what material is being covered. Does not explain mathmatical concepts whatsoever. Avoid this guy
he was a horrible teacher, just like everyone said he teaches the class like you already know what you are doing. Never explains how he gets from one step to the next, expects you to just read his mind. Plus hes very socially awkward. Avoid at all costs.
Prof. Gross is probably one of the hardest professors to just understand on a talking level. He mumbles a lot and wonders why you don't pay attention. He is very social awkward. He has lost a quiz of mine and accused me of not taking it. DO NOT take him if you have any choice.
Yes he does mumble and expect you to know the materical. However it is a high school flash back and you should know that stuff anyways. Good and helpful math review class and Prof. Gross knows what he is doing.
Didn't explain anything. Assumed we knew everything. My lease favorite professor so far
He was a terrible teacher. I even got a tutor for this class. I felt that I didn't really learn anything. It's like he expects you to know the material before he teaches it. I don't recommend him
for someone who hates math, he made this class one of the best I've ever had. He was willing to work with me and meet for extra study time. I know other students in the class didn't like him, but they didn't attend class or pay attention. If you put the work in, you'll get the grade.
He is by far the worst professor I have had yet. He talks down to you and when you ask him a question he responds which a question in a sarcastic tone. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Math 122 should be a simple class and he makes it way more complicated than needed.
He is smart and knows his stuff but doesn't explain the material very well. I've taken 097 & 110 with other professors and got A's in those courses. In Statistics I got a B. I am failing this class and will be retaking it. The online videos are where I am going to learn this material going forward to learn. Love math hate going to this class.
Professor Gross mumbles and is hard to understand. I did all the work and ended up getting an A. It's easy if you're decent at Math. I ended up teaching myself half the work. If you get a tutor you can end the class with an A if you put in a little effort.
He is very boring and can be condescending at times. He does mumble a lot, not the best teacher but he is willing to further explain if you ask. No one can finish his tests on time so we always have to take the last page the next class period... they can be pretty tricky, too. I wish I had taken it with someone else.
This was the worst experience I have had with a professor at GVSU. He is horrible at explaining course material and NONE of his lecture examples correlated with the textbook or homework. The textbook is required to do the assigned homework problems. The exams were extremely difficult! He is also terrible at answering questions, and rude.
Professor Gross was terrible. He speaks so quietly and in a mono tone voice that it is hard to hear him. He is not clear on assignments and never gives the assignments back. Although he is an easy grader and always rounds up. If your looking for an easy A take him. Otherwise he's terrible.
Tests are long! The class is run like a review, students are expected to know all the content already. Do not take this course if you are looking to be taught, it is best if you learn the lessons through another source before each class. Professor Gross does not take control of his classroom, there are often side conversations throughout class.
Worst math instructor I've ever had. I could definitely tell he knew what he was talking about, but he was terrible as far as conveying that information to his students. I had no idea what was going on 90% of the time. Complete waste of my time and money. 100% would not recommend as a instructor, especially if math is not your strong suit.
Prof Gross is a super smart guy, he has trouble teaching it though. I spent a lot of my free time in the math center and teaching myself what we had "learned" that class period. Wouldn't recommend
Professor Gross definitely knows what he is talking about. But, he does not convey the subject to students well. I spent many hours in the math center. When I went to office hours he helped me, but was very rude and made me feel like I was stupid. I do not recommend taking him if you are looking for a professor that will teach.
You can tell he's very smart but he does not know how to teach it. He can be very condescending when you ask him questions. The tests are very long and hard also. The book isn't opened once in class but you'll need it to basically teach yourself the course.
Holy hot dang he is by far the best teacher I have ever had. Everyone is so mean to him but TAKE THIS CLASSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hands down the worst professor I've ever had. He takes would should be a somewhat easy subject and makes it exponentially more difficult due to his lack of concise explanations. Even when asked to elaborate, he only explains how to do it (and poorly, I might add), not why it works. Oh and he has crippling social awkwardness. Avoid at all costs!
Great professor overall. He is an extremely tough grader, but he always has office hours. He will literally help you with every problem for homework and doesn't mind doing it. Really awkward at first, but a cool guy once you get to know him.
Worst professor I've ever had. Only making this comment to protect individuals GPA's, as he will surely ruin mine. His tests are not only longer and harder than other 122 professors, but Gross puts about half the effort as he should providing the class with useful tactics for learning essential concepts. Taught myself the class through the book.
Didn't even open the book once. He actually grades very fairly, giving partial credit as often as possible. He also gives "bonus points" after exams, boosting your grade. He has many 5 pt. assignments that we walk-through in class. If you pay attention and ask him for help, an A is not hard to reach. However, he struggles conveying information.
Evan Gross is a good professor who will answer questions and is willing to work with students. The key to this class? SHOW UP! He gives many examples of problems and is willing to throw in extra credit to struggling students. If you work hard and ask questions, you'll be fine.
The lectures are extremely boring, maybe because I already new the material but also because he never made anyone participate and half of the time was him staring at the class waiting for someone to answer. He grades the homework really tough which sucks. Homework should be practice since it is new material, it really brings your grade down.
he's fine-- i can't remember what he said about attendance but i believe it's mandatory in order to pass. his classes can fly by, and he often allows group work. i wish he would give me more feedback, that would've helped me understand what i was missing. overall, his tests are difficult, he grades assignments for accuracy-- which is totally lame.
Hes really awkward. He tries his best to teach but hes not confident at all. Above all, he doesnt explain any of the concepts well, so get ready to teach yourself. The math center isnt any help and only one tutor was available. He grades everything as quizzes and you have 3 main tests. Would not recommend. Try to take the class w another prof.
Gross is a cool guy, but he is very awkward and soft-spoken when teaching. Because of this either he misses something important or you miss it in lectures. He knows a lot but has trouble spreading the knowledge. He also is very focused on accuracy which is tough in such a fastidious area of mathematics.
He doesn't make sense at all when he teaches and don't expect to get help if you have a question because he will just get upset with you for not knowing what he doesn't even teach. Also, I hope you know how to teach yourself otherwise this class is going to make you learn how to real fast.
Not a fan, I have an A- but I have never worked so hard for an A in an intro-level class in my lifetime and I am well schooled. Poor quality explanations with little to no lecture/teaching. MAKE SURE YOU CAN TEACH YOURSELF! Otherwise, you will be in hot water.
He is not a good teacher. He doesn't know how to express what he wants to teach. Whenever someone gives a wrong answer he just kinda scoffs at the student and he brings the down them down for giving a wrong answer. All of his homework is for accuracy so if you don't understand it in class your basically screwed. One of the worst teachers at GV.
He is the worst professor I have had at GV. He made me feel dumb when I asked questions and did not help me at all. I ended up having to teach myself. He does not teach and gives worksheets on material we don't know and then grades it on accuracy.
He is by far the worst professor I have had at GVSU. He assigns these preview activities on material we haven't even learned and grades it based on accuracy. He gives a lot of busy work and then does not really help when people ask questions. He is also a really tough grader. If you made a tiny mistake, he would mark the whole question wrong.
He marks the entire question wrong if you make the TINIEST mistake and expects you to know everything. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS he makes me feel dumb and does not teach
Worst professor I've ver had. He doesn't teach and just expects you to know how to do everything. He is also an extremely tough grader and grades all homework on accuracy.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Toughest grader I have ever had in my life. I consider myself to be good at algebra. Normally I get test grades of 85 or higher. In this class I have not gotten over a 70. He does NOT reward you for what you do right, he punishes you for what you do wrong. Be prepared to teach yourself all of the content.
He is horrible. Takes little time to go over material, and tends to skip around a lot on given material overall a bad teacher.
he is a really tough grader, but hes a nice guy and pretty funny. he makes you think and at sometimes that may be challenging. If you actually try on the homework and study for the tests, its a super easy course. on the last exam you get a notecard for formulas
Professor Gross was very nice but a little quiet. He was funny though. His quizzes and tests werent bad, but know what we covered in class. Lots of group work was done in class to turn in. WebWork is annoying but can be a grade booster if you just do it! I would recommend him for sure!
He was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I had taken algebra as a junior in high school and got an A. I am struggling to keep my C-. I have taught myself ALL of the content. He also will assign homework or assignments very last minute and you wouldn't know unless you check blackboard 4 hours before class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Mr. Gross is a great teacher. He gives lots of assignments & homework so as long as you do them all you will pass. Just show up, pay attention, & definitely do homework. He gives pop quizzes but they are not very difficult. I would recommend him as a teacher - I actually signed up for one of his classes next semester.
He was a good prof.. I had a lot of fun in the class and he made it enjoyable. If you needed help in the class or you didn't understand something he was always able to adress that and explain it in different ways you could understand. There was a decent amount of homeowork and it was always important to check your blackboard and webassign.
I knew going into his class that I wasnt good at algebra, and had to put in a lot of work either way. He assigns very frustrating webwork that count as quizzes, which I find very unfair. It was very hard to keep track of due dates and homework because there was so much and it was so disorganized. Try to avoid if you can, but if not, youll be ok.
Terrible! won't help you. nasty to talk to. goes way too fast. assigns work before he has ever mentioned anything about how to do it or what it means but expects you to know how to do it. should no longer be employed. Wish I could give him a zero.
Lot's of webwork assignments which are great for boosting your grade, because his paper assignments are terrible, he grades very picky. This class is very unorganized, and a lot of the stuff he assigns you don't go over in class. If you can, try your best to avoid him if you're not the best at math, otherwise you should be fine for the most part.
Mumbles throughout the entire class and is terrible at teaching. If I could give him a 0, I would. An extremely tough grader/nit picky which is rich considering if we presented the material like he does hed fail us. Only take him if youre out of options.
I didn't really click with Gross' lecture style--he tends to give example problems more than actually explaining the mathematical concepts--but I was astounded by his outside-of-class support. Especially when Covid-19 struck, he made every effort to help his students learn. Online lectures, Bb discussions, email support... You name it, he did it.
Gross is an awful professor. I was taking his math class when COVID hit. Even before then, he would come to class expecting you to know everything beforehand. Does not explain or actually teach anything. Hard to understand and get help from. Told me to "get a tutor" when I asked for help. If math isn't your thing, DO NOT take class with him!
Gross is a professor I would not recommend to anyone. His lectures are literally just examples of problems and he does not teach you how to actually do the problems. Almost every time I asked a question he would chuckle and barley helped me. If you can switch out of Gross's class I would highly suggest it.
Honestly, professor Gross is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is lighthearted, and fun to be around in class. They key in this class is to participate, even if youre not 100% sure of the answer. I participated a ton, and in return learned a ton. Gross was always available through email which was very helpful. I highly recommend taking him
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HIM!!!! Professor Gross does not teach effectively. If you ask him a question to get a better understanding of the material, he will just repeat what he said when he taught the lessons. There were often days where we had two in class assignments, a worksheet out of class, along with webwork assignments. Soo much work!!
Honestly, at the beginning of the semester I disliked Prof Gross pretty heavily. I didn't like his teaching style and his work felt very spread out. Throughout the semester he grew on me and it really isn't to hard to learn from him. I think once you figure out his teaching style the class becomes clearer. He is decently nice. Tough grader though.
I will be referring to him as Evan Gross because he does not deserve the title "Professor." I gave him a 1/5 rating simply because 0/5 was not an option. Evan Gross is the biggest disgrace to Grand Valley State University that there has ever been. If you take him expect to teach yourself all the material of the class on your own time.
Every morning I had his class I would rethink my entire existence. The most atrocious course I have ever taken. No organization. Random quizzes on material we have never even learned. Simply terrible. If you have the choice between taking one of his classes, and dropping out of college; I pray to God you drop.
This man has no clue how to teach a class, if you ask a question he will not answer it AT ALL he'll mumble laugh and move on. I would truly rather slam my face on a hot grill than take his class again. worst professor ever
I taught myself everything in this class. Tests are graded very hard. He will dock you down points on grammar when it is a math class. Never gives clear instructions on what we are going over in class. Never actually explains why or how to solve something, just does it. Not very helpful with questions either. and will leave you more confused.
Professor Gross is really cool and easy going. I'm horrible at math but he is always down to re-explain anything and help out whenever you need to. He is a bit of a tough grader but it made me actually get better at my math skills. Go to his class and his office hours and use the math center.
He is not very clear with his work, and you have to teach yourself.
This class was HARD. There was so much homework. The homework was ridiculous because it was on a website where you would have to get the answer exactly correct or you would get no credit for the question. The tests were extremely hard, and the professor did not explain things well. I taught myself pretty much everything. Good Luch if you have him.
The lectures are very heavy on practice work however, if you pay attention in class, you will do just fine. I know that if you are struggling, he is very understanding and I know lots of people have benefited from his office hours. If you are confused by his lectures, definitely look at the book (free) and it will break it down further.
Give by far the most hw, does has multiple assignments due twice a week, any little mistake of test will result in full question wrong
grades extremely hard, especially on tests!
i want to sob.
It's not bad if you pay attention in class. He is getting bad reviews because in order to succeed you have to put ideas together on your own. He takes points off for every little thing but since you have weekly webwork you get extra credit if you get 100%, so your grade can easily be above 100. Take him if you already are good at or like math.
He wasn't the best math teacher I've had, but he was good. As long as you go to most classes and pay attention you'll get a good grade. There was a decent amount of work outside of class, but it was beneficial.
He is a cool and nice guy when you get to know him. On the teaching side, not great. He gives lots of homework but also extra credit every week if you finish every problem. His teaching style is horrible and I would not have succeeded in class if I didn't take the class in HS. He also grades really hard on tests and even on in class assignments.
doesnt teach much
Prof. Gross is very smart, however he makes you feel dumb when you ask a question. Exams weigh pretty heavy on your grade and he is not good at answering questions. Overall do not take him.
He doesn't really care and seems like he does NOT want to be there. Was in 110 and he kept acting like all of the subject material was way above his ability and would laugh at or ignore students if they got a question wrong. His lectures were unstructured and he is not an easy guy to talk to since he makes you feel really stupid. Avoid
Professor Gross is probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. He assigns a lot of homework, there is a quiz every week and he is a hard grader for homework and quizzes. He doesn't do a whole lot of teaching. He assigns us busy work in class. When you try to ask a question he will just laugh at you and he will not help you. Do not take
While Prof. Gross is knowledgeable, his teaching style can be a struggle. Attend class, use the free textbook, and supplement with unstuckstudy to grasp the concepts. With effort, you can succeed, but be prepared for challenging exams.
Professor Gross is not a very good teacher, he presents the work and expects you to know it without actually breaking it down. I've also made it known I'm not the best in group teachings because he only puts his focus on the students that know what they are doing. Very specific grader and very nonchalant professor. I wouldn't recommend his classes.
He does seem like a nice person but I do not think he was very helpful when I went to him for help with some problems. He would honestly act like I was stupid and chuckle if I got an answer wrong. He did not seem like he wanted to be in class while teaching and he graded quite hard. Would not recommend unfortunately.
don't take this class, no notes, lots of homework, I cry every week because of this class, do not take.
Uses lots of practice problems for notes, and going to math tutoring helps
I cannot fathom how one is paid a 6-digit salary, yet they can't check their email for the entire weekend before a final exam. Regardless, if you took math in high school, you can't possibly finish lower than a C. Easy material, LAZY teacher.
I took College Algebra and his class was only 50 minutes, but he would show up late. Not much was explained in class about different formulas. He'd tell you to read the textbook to teach ourselves on how to do it or some went to tutoring to help but they did not work. I noticed a common comment of how he acts when you ask a question and its true.
It is the first day and im teaching myself how to do my homework because he went over nothing in class. He is already expecting you to know things without ever talking about them. Finding ways to get out of his class.
He's not horrible although he is quite condescending and I feel like he's talking down on me occasionally. He is semi-helpful, I would make sure to pay attention he seems to go at his own pace not really checking on the pace that is the most understanding for the students within the class.
he does not teach students anything just stares at us thinking we are suppose to already know how to do things. i have to teach myself how to do the work. when asked a question, doesn't go into depth just looks at us blankly. a bunch of quizzes and sometimes random questions he never went over. please do not take. avoid!!!
Be ready to sit in class and learn absolutely nothing. He spends most of the class time going over problems he never taught us to do. I learned about 10% of the class material in class and the rest on the internet by myself. Avoid taking this class at all costs unless you just want to teach yourself the material.
What I loved about this class is how straight forward it is. Go to class, pay attention, and take good notes on the problems he does. The material builds on itself so make sure you don't get behind. Prof is a little boring but the class is straightforward. I did use ChatGPT a lot to explain and check hw.
