He never has a clear understanding of what to cover in class. easy class, but boring. He does't make it clear what he exactly wants in his papers, then tells everyone their wrong and makes you sign up for a google plus to do blogs on your reading, which was fine. However, at the end of semester he makes you figure out your grade.
He was great and it was interesting. If you do the work and pay attention you'll do fine. Ask for help if you need it
The other reviewer was correct. This guy is as clear as mud. Paper prompts were impossible to follow. He didn't give much homework though. Its good that he gives opportunities for extra credit because you are going to need it.
Really good teacher. He wants you to do well.
Evan is a great teacher who clearly enjoys the material. He is very helpful, just ask. The assignments are relatively easy to do as long as you read. Class participation is important. NO TESTS, which is good for bad test takers, like myself. At the end of the semester, you discuss the grade you think you deserve with him.
Class is easy ! But hes so unclear of what he wants for example you do an essay doesn't say much, then when he grades it tells you " you were suppose to do this this this..." Like how are we suppose to know if when we asked you didn't say much! My class was a tuesday thursday but had things due on sundays online! Horrible way of teaching!
He is never clear of what to cover in class. the class is boring. He does't make it clear what he exactly wants in his papers, then tells everyone they're wrong,at the end of the semester he makes you figure out your grade. I feel exactly the way what the comment above me says
He really helped me learn how to think. He's a good guy too. Pay attention and do the work and you won't be sorry
He is a great teacher. He teaches self motivation which is what we need at this age. His approach with music teaches us the value of music and its universal meaning and it brings religions to life.
I would say Prof. H is a great teacher. I feel many wouldn't recommend him because the classes are somewhat unstructured. It is important to understand that if you need rigid instructions for classwork, it may not be your class. If you have a strong sense of discipline and can handle a three-hour long classes on Fridays, go for it.
He is a very good professor and it is clear that he teaches with passion .the course is extremely helpful .
Professor Heimlich is very passionate about the subject and fosters learning and progress. He is very understanding once you've proven your dedication. This is a great course if you are willing to spend time on the readings and contribute to the class. Please note this is not a course where you just memorize information and take tests.
Amazing professor really cares about his students and is always there to help. Doing the readings is very advantageous and asks you every meeting during attendance if you did the readings and asks for feedback, I never wanted to be the one who said I didn't do the readings soo it was motivating. Did all the work and was rewarded with an A.
Amazing professor, actually cares about the students and wants you to pass. The readings he chooses are actually interesting. Do 100% of your work and do great on your midterm and final and you'll receive an A.
Probably the worst teacher i've had since highschool. Extremely unclear about his expectations for course work, unclear syllabus, and really no informative lecture at all. No power points either. He usually just talks and writes random stuff on the board or has you watch a video. Expects you to learn everything from readings, and explains nothing.
Great teacher.
We got all the essay prompts and everything on Day 1. I liked being able to see where things were headed.
The readings were very relatable. So was the online community and so were the classes.
For people who aren't good test takers this is a good class for you. Just do the weekly work and spend time on the two assigned papers and you'll get an easy A. I spent about 2 to 4 hours outside of class a week and received an A. It is a lot of reading though so be prepared.
This was my first Humanities class I took , and I was not disappointed. Yes, there is a lot of reading for the course, and writing with the weekly assignment about the reading. However you know from day one what is due so you have the opportunity to stay ahead and nog make it stressful on yourself. If you put in the effort your sure to pass.
I really learned a lot from this class.
Overall a nice guy who cares about teaching.
I really enjoyed Evan as a professor! A lot of reading and writing weekly, however, there are no tests. If you do the work and participate in class discussions you are going to pass! He can be a bit unorganized at times but he is a great guy and really knows what he's teaching, and he really loves discussing material.
This class had the most interesting readings. The discussions were cool too.
Dr. Heimlich is a very knowledgeable teacher who is more than willing to provide objective feedback where it matters. While he and I didn't always see eye to eye, I feel that my world view was very much expanded in his class, as well as my understanding of myself. Highly recommended.
Very interesting class with a lot of reading. Professor Heimlich puts a lot of thought into the material he chooses for the readings and it leads to some good in class discussions. He wants to see that his students are learning and provides good feed back and support. Overall, a great professor who cares about what he is teaching!
Overall this class was very interesting due to the fact that you learn about several different religions. The class has a lot of reading but the textbooks are very interesting and worth the read. I would advise not to take the class if you know you don't like reading and writing essays. It would be best to be as insightful as possible as well.
This class is one of the most interesting classes I have taken. It met once a week and it lasted 3 hours. The professor makes the time go by fast. He makes things relatable and gives us some history behind the religion. This class gives people a chance to become more open minded Do your readings and SBP's on time you'll be fine. Good luck and enjoy
Definitely one of the best class I've taken! He expects a lot of reading but the reading becomes very interesting after a while. Very enjoyable and the fact that the exams are two short essays made this class very easy. Attendance is a must! Would love to take another course like this again.
A lot of discussion, so you better talk, lol. Challenging, but that's all the more reason to try your absolute best. I feel as if this class should be essential to graduate. Mainly because you learn how to leave behind misconceptions you may have about specific religions and you learn how to be open-minded. Awesome class & awesome professor!!
Phenomenal class. The course is very interesting and the readings aren't bad. Certain individuals here claim they're long but they're simply excerpts from different documents to analyze and discuss. If you do the work and pay attention to the lectures, you'll do fine. Heimlich is very passionate about what he teaches and does an amazing job. A+++++
His style was simple, gave lecture, go over our SBP, it help overall to able to learn about different type religious practice, religious traditions, rituals practiced, and how certain freedom or prejudice help shaped challenge religion in America
Lot's of reading. Assignments are done online and allow for student discussion. Learned a lot. Make sure to do all your assignments and participation and you can easily get an A!
Professor Heimlich is a nice, passionate professor. The class is ran more like a workshop than a lecture- so be ready to talk. He uses Google+ for weekly homework, and it creates a nice bond/culture in the classroom. This class (no matter the prof) requires a lot of reading, but his assignments are very specific, which lessens the load. Loved it!
I did not learn a single thing in this class. Using Google+ in the place of Blackboard was complicated and confusing. We spent the most time arguing about whether Plato's accent was cockney, whether the Geico gecko was British, or why History Channel documentaries are violent. Easy A, waste of time, source of unnecessary stress, frankly annoying.
Great class for people who are up for a challenge!
This was a great class. My favorite one. Learned a ton and enjoyed it! Made friends with classmates.
It is important to keep up with the weekly readings and assignments in this class not just for the grade, but to get the most out of it. That being said, Evan is a great teacher who truly expands your perspective on religions and life. He gives papers instead of tests (only a midterm and final paper). Loved hearing from all of his guest speakers!
This was one of my favorite classes ever. Even better than I expected.
He's a great professor, and his class is not difficult. I would take him as a professor again. Just do the assigned work and participate, and you will get an A for a grade.
The group community style of teaching, and the expectation of thought provoking discourse serves to make the course provocative, enlightening, and memorable.
The course is centered around the student doing a lot of reading and writing. To get an A, you must work for it. 3 books were used with weekly readings. Everything is done on Google+. Dedicate time to the assignments, show up to class, participate, and DON'T PROCRASTINATE. Dr. Heimlich is very helpful and appreciates what he teaches. Great class!
Good teacher, easy to pass if you put in the work to read and do your weekly writings. Not very clear on what he says during lectures, but still easy understand what you need to do during class. Show up to class, do your readings, and you'll pass with no problem.
This class was really nice, I took it last semester. I would defiantly take it agin. The teacher is very nice and welcoming.
Evan is a pretty cool dude, really likes what he teaches. Weather you belong to a religion/belief or not, he gives a really good out take on life. Just do the reading, do the weekly write-ups, and show up to class and you can easily get a C to an A.
He's a nice guy, however, he tends to tear your weekly writings to shreds with criticism. He seems to never be satisfied and will always give his opinion as the definite answer. Plus, he gets off topic in class fairly often and you're left leaving the class wondering what just happened. You pretty much teach yourself with the tons of reading.
This is a great class with great fieldwork and great discussions. Students in it learn a lot from each other. The online weekly writing and feedback can be tough to get used to but when you come to class it's all good. Evan helps classes improve our reading, thinking, and writing. Take this class if you are ready to learn.
Very good professor, really cares about what he is teaching,. He is very educated on the subjects he teaches. If you take a class with him and do the assigned reading expect to acquire real and useful knowledge. Very respectful, committed to excellent teaching.
Teacher was very good. great class to take, easy A if you just put the time and effort in. Homework was easy, did some heavy reading some weeks. all religions were treated equally. Alot of people like to go off track and criticize other religions. teacher made it clear that were just here to learn and appreciate the good aspects. participate
Best course I've ever taken. Actually sorry it ended.
Super cool dude, really easy to talk to. There was a bit of reading, and writing- nothing crazy though. If you want to take this class, take him cause I also took this class with a different teacher before. She's cool too, but I think Mr. H is better
One of the most interesting courses that I have ever taken. The reading is truly epic in quantity, however. Sometimes you have to skim in order to survive. I took other courses and applied myself in this and Spanish, getting lower grades in my other two courses. If you're like me, you will love this class and the rather unique approach Evan takes
I've now taken Dr. Heimlich for both "Religion in America" and "World Religions," and I must say that he is an excellent professor. The readings can become time consuming, but it is college and usually the material he assigns to read is interesting enough that you will not notice you've been reading for 5 hours. Definitely recommend taking
Evan motivated me and others to do well in his course.
Honestly I took Humanities: Arts and Ideas because it gave me the credits I need for a Humanities class. I definitely recommend him. His class is so chill and it is just super easy. He does give long lectures and sometimes he mumbles a lot, but it's worth it for an easy A
This is a really good class. Best in-class discussions ever.
Awesome
I learned a lot from this class. It was challenging, in a good way. All the assignments were worthwhile--no busywork at all. I look forward to taking another class with Dr. Evan.
Overall, I love Dr. Heimlich class because he inspires me to think the things that we learned is important for our society. This class required a lot of reading, but it is not so bad. I still have time to work and do good in my other classes. It is an easy A class.
Very caring professor, do the work and you will earn a good grade. Not too difficult of a grader, but more intentional that his students are engaged and learning the material. Overall good guy, passionate about the subject, desires his students to succeed.
Dr. Heimlich was unlike any other. He's as passionate as he is caring. He went out of his way to ensure that I was helped during a time of need. Makes class fun and interesting, and really broadens your perspective. He's very bright and understanding. He encourages participation, insight, and questions, so don't hesitate! I'd take him again :)
Dr. H is an amazing teacher! It was my first class in college and he really helped me adapt well with his style of teaching. He loves religion and it shows through his lectures. Evan is a kind and well respected teacher who would be a great choice for your next class!
There wasn't a textbook for our class, but we did read several smaller books such as Gilgamesh and The Odyssey. So long as you show up and do the weekly assignment, you're golden. It's really not a difficult and he respects your feedback, so never be afraid to tell him how you are feeling about the class along the way.
I thoroughly enjoyed this humanities class! The books we read were really interesting and I enjoyed his lectures. Reading and sharing about what was read is a part of the class, but it is not a difficult class. The course load is not heavy, it is manageable. If you show up and do what is assigned, you will pass.
He was a very nice and caring guy, he works with students a lot with their schedule. Readings and a short paper due every week so there is lots of stuff in the gradebook which is always a good thing! Brought in lots of guest speakers and field work is required. Overall very fun and good class I would highly recommend him.
Super nice guy. As someone who doesn't like to speak to the class, he made it really easy for me to do so every class period. He doesn't make fun of you for your opinions like some professors would, he embraces your view on things. By far the best professor I've had at RCC!
Very honest caring professor , thankful I took this class I was able to learn more about culture , diversity and learn more about death . Class was always interesting and always something new . Guest speakers to the class was a plus would defiantly take this professor again .
Prof. Hei is an awesome professor! I took him for Death. And it was a very fascinating class. We were assigned weekly readings which were interesting. Also, we were assigned to go to different places that would be relevant to the class, called fieldwork assignments. I liked those because it was a good excuse to go out and explore cool places.
Good lectures, brings A lot out of you as a student
really good experience I gained in his class. he doesn't scrutinize your opinion he embraces it. I'm not comfortable talking in front of classes but after taking this class It's super easy for me to do.
One of the most unique professors I've ever had. Very different than normal professors. He performs his own music which is really cool. The course was one of my favorites. You'll learn a lot of interesting things if you really pay attention. Would suggest to anyone with an open mind.
Great professor!! This was my first class after being out of school for a long time and Dr. Heimlich was definitely there to help and work with me. He is awesome!!
Really passionate teacher that keeps you intrigued throughout the semester. Although there is reading assignments, they get easier as you progress and trust me they wont get you stressed. All in all, this class was one of my better classes in a long time and Dr. Heimlich is pretty cool. Just participate and do the online work and you'll get an A
He's very passionate about what he does and he literally does not get paid enough to do the work that he does. I do warn that his course will be difficult if it's your first time attending college or if you haven't been to school in a while, due to the fact that the reading is very cumbersome and that you have to allocate your free time wisely.
This class was really straight forward. if you do the work you will pass the class. he is very lenient when turning in work, so as long as you turn in the work that's all that matters. this is honestly an easy class, just show up, do the work and you will get an A. he is a really nice professor, I would take him again any other time.
Dr. Hei is one of the best teachers, in my opinion, you can have for three reasons. He is non-judgemental and open minded. His coursework is enlightening and his lectures even more enlightening. Also, he goes the extra mile to ensure your comprehension of coursework and life. Overall, he deserves more credit for his contribution to society.
This man right here is awesome! Made me become a better person and influenced me to appreciate my culture and even others!
I really enjoyed this class. He definitely gives great feedback and seems genuinely interested in you as an individual, and he really reads your answers and seems open minded about them. Also, we didnt have to buy any books for the class which was a definite plus! LovEd it ! I enjoyed all of the readings and the fieldwork reports were fun
Evan is a chill professor, just read the readings and understand it ,and you'll be fine. His readings are also interesting because you don't stick to one book. Don't be scared about his readings because he will give you tips on how to understand it.
Professor understands that the course is an introductory course and therefore expects students to make mistakes in the first few assignments. He teaches his students the proper way of completing a specific assignment and provides feedback. The only downside is that assignments are due before 6:00 pm which may conflict with ones schedule.
Great teacher. Extremely genuine about his teachings. Show up and follow the guidelines and you'll pass. Easy class and great learnings.
Professor Heimlich was a very attentive teacher, and gave excellent feedback to all students to make sure that they were able to learn from their mistakes and successes.
He made it seem as if the course was going to be ridiculously difficult on the first day (maybe to weed out the people who weren't serious about the course), but it made me take the class more serious. He lectures a lot, but answers any questions you have. The fieldwork assignments were well worth-while.
Really cool guy and knows his stuff. Super easy going but stern. I took Hum10 death with him and the assignments werent terribly difficult but enjoyable. Likes field work.
Dr. Heimlich is the most interesting professor I have ever had. He is so well versed and knowledgeable about his subject and so many others. He cares deeply for his students and the world around him. You have to be willing to put in the work and do the reading but it is really beneficial to the quality of your experience in class and to yourself.
He is great at his job. Some people are meant to be teachers and he is one of them. He spends a lot of time discussing readings and answering questions so no one is lost. He takes his time to put together readings so they are accessible and he picks interesting reads so there is no excuse not to do them. Take any class you can with him!
Dr. Heimlich is a excellent Humanities Professor! He truly cares about his students and wants you to learn. He provides information that is beneficial not only to students but everyone, I learned so much! His perspectives on the world and how it functions are brilliant! Truly an amazing professor and I would recommend him to anyone!
Dr. Heimlichs interdisciplinary study of death is a secret gem in the RCC course catalog. He is a knowledgeable and open minded professor who inspires you to academically approach a subject that is considered taboo. There are interesting readings assigned every class and the field work assignments will have you grow out of your comfort zone
Dr. Heimlich cares for his students. He definitely wants them to grow academically and think outside the box on the topic of Death. There is a bit to read each week but the readings are very informative and interesting. His discussions are engaging
Bit of reading and he is a strict grader on papers, though he gives great feedback and lectures - plus the dedication to his study will also get you dedicated to your own. He provides assigned readings and unit posts are quite laidback, and videos you'd have to rent. The class is doable and worth it even if you don't need it for credit :)
Great personality and you can tell he cares deeply about his students academic progress. Doesn't give any credit for late work (at least for the course I took). Lots of reading and videos but the work is doable once you get used to it! Also, very interesting subject matter.
I had Professor Heimlich during quarantine and he really knew what he was doing. I understand it was a difficult time for teachers, but Professor Heimlich had an amazing/organized system going. I learned a lot from his class, which is saying a lot when it comes to online classes. If you are genuinely interested in learning, take this class.
