Short online assignment & quiz due before each class (you need to monitor canvas daily!) Breaks up project into 3 parts so you don't go nuts the night before. 2 exams (straight from his powerpoints). The only Con is that he's a stickler with attendance (don't be late - seriously!) He lays everything out for you.
if you're one minute late for class, you will lose points and hurt your total grade. he takes attendance every class. he gives 3 tests for the semester, but there is a quiz due every week along with discussion questions. be aware because the discussion questions will just pop up as an assignment out of nowhere so be sure to check canvas daily.
This man is not a people person. He has a dry personality and quite awkward. It doesn't seem like he cares for the success of his students. Very unprofessional in emails "sent from a mobile phone" or wont even acknowledge you properly greeting him. Whenever you email him, it feels like he's doing you a favor instead of him doing his job.
Professor Matthews is a great Exercise Science Professor. It is obvious that he knows his information. He also gives great feedback in his class so you know if you did something wrong. Do not complain about him taking attendance because you are paying money to take classes in college and you should not be missing class. Take him, he is great!
Dr. Matthews is now one of my favorite professors. I love the clarity and organization of the class. Everthing you need to know is on Canvas; due dates and anything else related to class. There are weekly quizzes online but the answers are all in the power points and it is all multiple choice so it is impossible to fail.
You will lose points if you do not show up to class or come late. He is very straight forward and a very efficient professor. He is very willing to help. You need to study more than the weekly quizzes for the 3 tests you take. Sometimes the applied questions you feel like you were not taught so regularly review the discussion questions
The class was really good. Just show up and do all the assignments. Also do well on the exam and you should be good.
If you have a background in exercise science, you will do fine in the class. Definitely study the powerpoint for the exams. Be on time, attendance matters in your grade. I liked the way the exams are. They are given on canvas and you immediately find out the grade.
Professor Matthews is a decent professor overall, and the class is laid out very well. He sets his expectations from the start of the semester, and it may seem overwhelming, but it only takes 2-3 weeks to get acclimated. His exams are tough, but just review his PowerPoints and you will be fine. DO EVERY ASSIGNMENT AND YOU WILL PASS.
Professor Evans is a by the book professor but he is fair. He provides detailled information as it pertains to topics for class, class assignments and grades. professor Evans doesn't hesitate to answer questions in class and during office hours.
I highly recommend taking this class! I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Matthews.
If you take the quizzes, do well on the tests and labs then you will do good. He gives Powerpoints for each section.
Professor Matthews is eager, helpful, and encourages questions. He is great if you are interested in research and/or going on to grad school. If you have a background in exercise science this class won't be difficult. Online quizzes (2/3 of the exam ?s) are straight from the power points, which are available on Canvas. Grades come back quick.
He assigns online quizzes that are extremely easy because you can find them in the powerpoints but make sure you show up to class on time because you don't get full credit for showing up late. Study for the exams and you should be fine
Solid class, that is well put together. There are no surprises in this course. Show up to class, do the to do's on canvas when they are due, and do the labs well and you will get a decent grade. Study for the tests and it will be an easy A.
Fast pace course. Textbook is not needed. Material is very well explained. He focuses on concept rather than just memorized information. Need to learn to apply. Overall it was a good class. Lots of quizzes and assignments. All are on line though
Professor Evan Matthews is a great professor. I enjoyed this class and learned a lot. I highly recommend taking his class. He is very helpful, organized and he clearly explains everything that is expected of you. If you do the assignments, go to class, and study a fair amount you should get an A.
I would highly recommend taking Professor Evan Matthews. I really enjoyed this class and learned a lot. You have three exams, the first one was the hardest one and than the class gets easier. If you study the powerpoints, discussion questions, and quizzes for each powerpoint, than you will be fine on the exams. You have three labs in the class too.
His course was very organized; 3 exams, 1 practical, a few labs, and easy online quizzes. 3 Extra credits are available too. Materials were interesting to me even though they required a lot of studying. I think he's one of the few professors who are involved and actually want students to learn; I really respected him as a professor. Take him!!
I would recommend him. He gives a quiz before every new topic, but they are short, easy, and a great way to keep your grade up. Tests are challenging, but he does cover all the material well, so they are fair. If you study it isn't hard to get an A or B. Overall, you'll learn a lot and should not have a hard time getting a good grade.
Professor Matthews is a good professor. He gives you clear instructions for all projects, assignments, and quizzes. Everything is submitted through canvas including Tests. Also attendance is important in this class. I'd take him again because of how he sets his classes up.
Good professor but attendance is mandatory and a big part of your grade. The labs are also very important but the online quizzes and 3 tests aren't too bad. Would definitely recommend him for this class, learned a lot!
Attendance is important for this class. I'd take Professor Matthews again because of how he sets his assignments/class up. The only heavily graded assignment is the YMCA Bike Practical Tests but everything else is a piece of cake if you go to class, take the easy online quizzes, and study. He's a great professor and I recommend him for this class!
Take him! He is awesome and really cares about his students. All of his tests, quizzes, and assignments are online so you always have a clear deadline of when things are due. Tests are fair; just study the powerpoints, quizzes and discussion questions and youll be fine! Wish I could take Dr. Matthews again!!
Dr. Matthews is a great professor. His class can be hard up until the first test, but that is just because the information is difficult, not because he makes it hard. After that, tests and lab reports aren't too bad at all. You think you're going to do bad in the class and then as it goes on it gets much easier. Take him for sure!
Study the powerpoint materials for the exams. There is a large athlete training program that allows you to apply the information you learn in class. He gives you a template though explaining how to do the paper properly which is very helpful. Be EARLY. If you arrive at 6:30 or a second later you lose attendance points.
Easy tests, they are directly from the powerpoints. His assignments are not described as thoroughly as they could be. For example, the athletic training program was not talked about in class, he expected you to do it all on your own. YOU HAVE TO SHOW UP. If you are even late, you lose points.
Dr. Matthews is a great professor. Highly recommend. His lectures aren't too bad, and he gives a lot of visuals to help you understand. Every single test, quiz, or assignment is posted on canvas from day 1 so you always know what's due and when. There are weekly online quizzes which are super easy and take 10 minutes. Over great prof.
Professor Matthews was an awesome professor. I learned a bunch of useful information this past semester. Took him for his prescription course as well and his teaching style is the same for both. Everything is laid out for you in the beginning and its up to you to get the work done. Could be difficult in the beginning but it gets better. TAKE HIM!
I really enjoyed taking Professor Matthews! Phys of Ex was challenging, but if you pay attention in class and do the quizzes you will be fine. His tests are conceptual but if you understand how to apply the material it is easier to do well. He knows what he's talking about and breaks down the information, also always offers to help. Take him!
Attendance is mandatory and you must be on time to get full credit. Other than this minor fact, Professor Matthews is clear with the information he provides, is happy to help until you understand, and is passionate about what he is teaching.
Highly recommend Prof. Matthews. Explains material clearly, clear grading criteria and you learn a lot of useful information. Do the work, know the concept of the material and you will do well.
Dr Matthews is knowledgeable and will do his best to help with questions you may have. Entire semester schedule is laid out on day 1 with everything having a clear grading criteria. Lectures are not intense and be prepared before showing up to lab. If you show up and pay attention you will do well. Cheers.
Dr Matthews is very knowledgeable and always willing to answer questions. Lectures are straightforward and all graded material criteria is explained. Tests are fair and will make you think but if you've been paying attention, easy A. One of the best professors in the department, take his classes!
I want to say that he is super FINE, married though. Make sure you talk to him if you have a problem. If you don't bring it to his attention, you may not have plan B or another chance to pass. Hand those assignments in on time, be on time, very punctual. Did I say he was fine!
He's a cool dude, just monotone and lectures can get kind of boring. Just make sure you stay up to date with what he teaches and you'll be good.
Good class.
He give a grade on being in class on time. It helps with your time management. He is very helpful in every way possible. Be on top of your work or you will stress to the max. If you struggle, he will help you as long as you ask for it and do your job. Submit your work ON TIME! TAKE HIM!!!!
If you have an exercise science background, this class is easy. There are lots of presentations (2 per person) so that eats up a lot of time & there's less material. ELM is great; willing to help, not super exciting, will let you know why you lost points (I wish we got more feedback, that's just me being a nerd), knows his stuff & is a cutie!
Get ready to work but very fair and you'll learn a lot! Don't expect to coast by without putting much effort into the class, lots of work, but if you pay attention, do all the work following clear guidelines, study all power points, you can expect to do well.
Hes a great professor overall, he grades you on attendance, which makes you come to class which is a good thing. He can be a tough grader especially on the one project you do during the semester. Never leave anything to last minute, if you need help, ask he will always answer your questions.
Very good and understanding teacher. Keeps class interesting and provides 3 extra credit opportunities. Tests are hard but open notes.
Dr. Matthews is AWESOME! I took this class as a 4 week summer course and I definitely recommend people doing so. There's a lot of information and I cannot imagine doing it over a 16 week semester. The way he sets up his class is you're either good or sinking and in the time span its pretty hard to sink!
Dr. Matthews is one of my favorite professors at MSU. I took him for his summer phys of ex and as it definitely was a challenging course, if you put in the effort, you can get an A. He gives you everything you need to know, you just need to be able to apply all of the concepts to one another to understand them clearly. Def take him
would take again no doubt! Dr. Matthews dedication to involve the entire class helps you to actually learn the information. He asks questions during class which was a very useful aspect, as it kept you involved rather than just reading off a power point. He allows you to process and understand the information before moving on.
Attendance counts. Makes you stand in line the minute class starts. One second late is a deduction in your attendance grade. You also have to present an Exercise Demo to small groups in class MULTIPLE times which was annoying. Also wish there was more guidance in the Athlete Training Program paper.
big project at the end- but gives a lot of help with it answers emails fast does not make lecture mandatory if class is doing well- only if he sees that you need the help
Overall, he's a good teacher. The hw may seem like a lot in the beginning but it's honestly not that bad. In terms of the exams if you actually study the power points he posts and don't wait until the last minute you'll be fine.
I took him for Fitness Assessment & Exercise Prescription & really liked it. You get a decent amount of homework but it's not that hard, videos get kinda boring cause they're lengthy. You get 1 big project but it's broken down into 2 parts & work with a group. He answers emails fast & is there to help when you go to him.
Professor Matthews class wasnt that bad, the course I took was a hybrid. The only thing I would say I didnt like is that you have to pretty much teach yourself because he only goes over discussion board questions in class. If your classmates dont ask anything related to the topic you arent getting a review. Overall not a bad professor take him.
Be on time. Complete homework & labs on time. Actively participate in discussion boards(online & in-person review). Study the power points for each exam starting from day 1, it's a lot of content to study/understand. Ask any questions in regards to what chapter you're studying each week, he will answer them! Great professor, this class was fun.
Doesnt go over notes and topics in class. A lot o
Evans was a good professor, probably one of the most laidback personality youll meet. When it comes to course work BE READY, it is not hard but it is tedious. Try and get the work out of the way as quick as possible because it will creep up on you close to the due date. Its easy going until the last few weeks. PLEASE START YOUR PRESCRIPTION EARLY
Good professor. Definitely would take again. If your someone that doesnt like online lectures donf take him. Attendance also counts. Gives extra credit opportunity and is a very smart professor.
Lecture is all given through video. Attendance is mandatory for lecture even though there's no lecture, just given group time to work on that week's assignment, kind of annoying that you have to show up even if you're done that assignment. Nice teacher, wants to help. Lab is easy. Watch the lecture, so assignments and show up and you'll do fine.
I really enjoyed this professor. He was clear and specific on during tests and projects. Tests are not difficult if you study. Only one huge project but he gives you plenty of time and direction to complete it. Labs are fun and informative. totally would take this professor again
His course is about 80% online. Attendance is graded but you won't miss much if you don't go. He is always available to answer questions and never missed a class or lab this semester. The hardest part of the course is the final assignment which he does not give much instruction for.
Great Professor, Pay attention, Attend class and you will do good!
lectures are online.
This class is one of the easiest A's. The class is half online, half in class. Lectures are done through videos on canvas and class time is spent working with groups answering questions. Lab is super easy and once you do your first practical, you don't have to go to lab for the rest of the year. Also, start exercise prescription assignment early!!
Dr. Matthews is a really smart professor and handles the material well. There is a lot of material so don't get overwhelmed, plus there is a large project due at the end, but he does prepare you for it. He's a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone willing to learn and earn an easy grade if they put the time in.
The class was half online and half in class. He's a great and easy professor, could explain the material a tiny bit. There is a huge exercise prescription project and practical. If you don't wait till the last minute and understand the material it should be easy. Quizzes and assignments are also online and super easy. The videos are long though.
Dr. Matthews give you the tools to succeed, but he will not hold your hand through the semester. The class is mostly online, which makes it very easy to work your schedule around. However, the time you spend in class with him is your time to ask questions, which is why it important not to leave your projects until last minute.
Great teacher
This class is designed for people who do not have an exercise science background. Assignments consist of an exercise demonstration, article presentation, creating an athlete training program, midterm and final. Grading rubrics are clear and easy to follow. Attendance matters and extra credit opportunities are given. Well organized and structured.
Was not very specific with how he wanted the papers to be. All around, nice person.
Dr. Evan Matthews was a pretty good professor this semster. I liked how he did not make us attend class on Tuesdays when we were scheduled to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays. His weekly Homework Assignments and Quizzes were not hard at all. Tests were okay, not too tough. The only thing I despised was those Exercise Prescription Assignments.
a lot of difficult material in a short time. there is a discussion board for each topic that you need to post on at least once and he uses these questions for his in class lectures. you need to stay on top of the material and watch the online lectures. tests and quizzes are all multiple choice and you do the labs in groups.
Dr. Matthews wants his students to do well and fully understand the material. I took the course during a summer session and it was totally manageable. He goes over every lecture in class at whatever speed the class needs so he doesn't waste your time if the material is understood. Loved taking his class and would definitely recommend taking him.
I took the summer course. This summer course requires discipline if you aren't ready to study multiple hours a day, don't do it. Dr. Matthews is a very good professor, he's very intelligent and he's super kind. He lectures at a speed that helps students learn and you can tell he cares about the students. I loved this class and he's great! A+
Professor Matthews was fantastic I would definitely take him again if I could! I took him in the summer so it was a shorter class but I learned a lot. Everyday we had a quiz and an assignment to do but it was all open notes including the tests! So it was a relatively easy class and a lot of fun. I highly recommend
I took Matthews in the summer. This is a teacher that can actually teach his students and addresses any confusion you might have. We had one quiz and one discussion due every night all online and open notes so everything was straightforward and easy. His exams are tough and make you think so make sure to study! Overall amazing and caring teacher
A lot of information but if you study and watch the videos youll be okay
It's basically a teach yourself type of course, it says the class is hybrid but our in class time we just sit there and answer assignment questions. Doesn't go over what to do in lab at all, you must watch all the videos and lectures online and completely understand it in order to get a good grade. Prefer a different professor
This is my second time taking Matthews class. He is a wonderful Professor who is so understanding and works with you whenever you need help with a lab or an assignment. Almost every Sunday we were assigned a quiz and a discussion to complete that were straight from the lecture videos. His exams are a little difficult so make sure to study!
All of his lectures are on YouTube so there is no in-class lecturing but you are required to show up to class. The lectures take a while to watch but he provides a lot of information. When it comes to the assignments, all of them are pretty much straightforward. Everything is due every Sunday so don't wait until last minute to do the work!
Dr. Matthews is a wonderful professor. He knows his stuff and as personal trainer and a inspiring strength and Conditioning coach, he helps understand a lot and what he has taught me, I've applied it in the work place. not just as in personal training, but I deal with vitamins too when I'm not training.
He's a down to earth professor. He makes youtube videos for lecture instead of doing in class lectures. You have an assignment and quiz due every Sunday so make sure you stay on top of it. The assignments and quizzes will help a lot in the end. He has two exams that are not too hard and he gives extra credit! Not a hard class to pass.
He's doesn't teach just watch his videos and they will help you out significantly.
I give him a 3.0 is because of how accessible he is and how quickly he answers emails. Dr. Matthews, is extremely lazy. He does not teach, he makes you watch a youtube video and he thinks that is teaching. In the lab, he just walks around and does not explain what to do. Dr. Matthews cares a lot about his students but he is not a teacher.
its pretty easy gives you everything to past
The class itself has some complicated material, but he is a great professor and WILL help when needed. When you start the class and pick groups REALLY make sure these are people that will do the work, because there are multiple group assignments. His YouTube videos break down the entire course. Watch, pay attention, take notes, and you're golden!
Dr. Matthews gives you all the tools you need to succeed, including extra credit. Some might hate the way he posts YouTube videos but its much easier to go back in a video while studying than to email him. If you show you care he will do everything in his power to help you. Hes an amazing professor and seriously wants everyone to succeed.
Professor Matthews is a highly astute individual that goes above and beyond for his students. I'm thankful that I had the pleasure of being a student in his class. Despite the circumstances this semester he was still able to give his time to help out his students. Thank you, professor.
Dr. Matthews is a great professor because he is very knowledgeable in the information given in the course. The labs are also very useful to the students because you learn through a lot of hands on examples and the labs are applicable to physical therapists. However, one caveat is that his voice is monotone and is not very lively.
By far the best professor I have had... He seriously cares about his students and he takes time out of his day to make sure you understand everything going on in class. He is very intelligent and I hope I get the honor of having him as a prof again. Dr. Matthews, thank you for everything you do for your students. Your hard work is recognized.
Professor Matthews is a real gem at Montclair State University. He was very thorough in class and labs and it was easy to come to him with any issues. Once our class went fully online due to COVID-19, he became even more thorough and constantly checked in on his students to make sure they are doing alright and sent reminders when they were behind.
Great teacher. Class is a pre rec for many other ex phys classes. Took it online during COVID so the labs were a little dry but fairly easy and Evan was great in teaching on this new format.
Dr. Matthews genuinely cares about his student's success. If you have a question he will clearly explain everything and in a way that will help you understand. He provides lots of opportunities to improve your grade as well as extra credit.
Take advantage of questions and extra credit.
Most of the assignments are quizzes and group assignments. However, he fully explains the material and gives good feedback.
Dr. Matthews is an amazing Professor when it comes to teaching the material at a high level basis. His verbal skills are amazing as well as his presentation skills as a whole. Great Class would definitely take him again.
Dr. Matthews is a great professor. He is fair and always willing to help or answer questions. He does post his lectures, but he goes over any confusing information during the following class. The exams are tough if you do not study. If you watch the lectures and pay attention in class you will do well and will learn ALOT!
Two things I should note, I took this class during the first semester it was offered, so things may change. Second, I took this class during the COVID pandemic, so it was 100% virtual. There were 3 multiple choice exams, and two oral exams (he asks you to explain a figure), and a group presentation. Not a cake walk, but you learn a lot. highly rec.
Dr. Matthews is a terrific professor, arguably the best I've had at MSU. For this course in particular, it was the first time it had been taught at MSU, and he did a great job. The course was well-paced, with ample opportunities to earn a fair grade. If you actively participate and apply yourself, he will make sure you are on the path to success.
Very organized, tries to make everything clear and simple. Overall a great professor. It might have been a bit difficult for me because the class was online during COVID. The tests are a bit hard, but not too shabby if you study. You will get the understanding of it once you take the first one. I recommend him!
I absolutely loved Dr. Matthews class. He is knowledgeable and passionate. It was super easy to be engaged throughout the whole semesters.
Professor Matthews takes into consideration student opinion and constantly improves lectures. He values our feedback as much as he provides it. He spaces out work with 3 exams, weekly labs and quizzes, provides extra credit that includes relevant exercise research. Take advantage of all the materials he provides to help you! I would recommend!!
Professor Matthews is very knowledgeable about topics within the class. If he does not know an answer to something he will be honest and say that it is out of his scope of practice. His tests are very concept based meaning you need to know how to use the information given. His tests are not easy, but he is always willing to help you out.
Dr. Matthews is a great professor. He is very understanding, caring, and helpful. I took this class during the COVID pandemic and although it was a bit hard due to the circumstances, his class was great and very interesting. The tests are a bit hard but as long as you take the time out to review the powerpoints and study you should be just fine.
I did not have the grade that I expected but I learnt a lot from this class.
I did not get high the grade but I learnt a lot from that class take him
I took this class and I was a bit nervous given its new to the program but I have to say Dr. Matthews really did well running this class. I learned so much. I believe this class will only get better from here. You have three exams and two orals but the oral exams are great! Participation counts but its Easy to jump into conversation! Take it!
Dr. Matthew is an excellent professor. I thoroughly enjoyed his Exercise Physiology class. The tests are hard but if you watch the lectures a d pay attention you will be just fine. Im so excited I have him again this upcoming semester.
Professor Matthews is great. He teaches clearly and is always willing to answer questions and spend extra time with you. His exams are fair and are application based; meaning you have to apply the concepts taught in class. We had weekly labs that we worked on in groups, that were not too challenging. Very fair professor.
Dr. Matthews is by far the best professor I've had at MSU. He gives multiple opportunities to improve you grade and is clear on what he wants. He answers questions professionally and if he cannot, will refer you to an outside source. His tests are application based so you do have to pay attention but you will learn SO much! Take him!
Great Professor
Caring teacher. If you have questions or concerns DO NOT HESITATE to reach out. Extremely understanding and helpful.
Great Professor the lectures are easy to understand and he explains with great detail. Quizes and tests are straight forward. Labs are heavily driven by your ability to complete the task at hand as long as you pay attention and understand material you will excel in course.
A great professor. Tests are based on how well you understand the material but theyre fair, so make sure you pay attention during lectures as well as prepare for tests beforehand. Quizzes are pretty straightforward and he gives lots of opportunities to bring your grade up as well as extra credit. You will learn so much in this class!
Awesome professor. Super nice and knows his stuff. He gives lots of opportunities to get your grade up and is also super helpful if you go to him outside of class. He gives a decent amount of work but it's nothing too hard as long as you pay attention in class and listen to the lectures.
he really helps you pass this classs
Dr. Matthews is one of the best all around professors in the exercise science department. He presents the class content in a way which is clear and straight forward. The exams do challenge your understanding of the presentations. There are no surprises, everything is laid out in detail from day one. Dr. Matthews is caring and will see your success.
Need to put in the work for your grade but overall would take again.
Prof. Matthews definitely makes you work for your grade, but he delivers the material in a way that's easy to comprehend. Also, if you have questions make sure to ask because he will make sure to go over any material people are stuck on.
Gives good feedback. Lectures are very understanding. Just make sure you have questions to ask about the lecture at the end.
Be prepared for a lot of homework.
Great professor overall, very passionate about teaching students. However, just be ready taking his class mentally, pay attention, always be on schedule, and participate if you really want a good grade. Group assignments here and there. Testing is a bit difficult but always study.
Very friendly and chill professor. His class is by the book but he mostly uses slides. Quizzes are weekly and easy. I would take his class again and actually am next semester for another class. He's very knowledgeable and helpful.
You have weekly assignments and bi-weekly group labs. Easy course and very good at teaching. Definitely recommend taking him and he loves to answer any questions you have. He is very understanding and answering his emails quickly. I would take him again.
Great Professor that explains material very well. Sets you up for success. Very homework heavy though so stay on top of weekly assignments and you should do pretty well. Definitely would take him if you can.
Dr. Matthews is a very bright professor. He has passion of what he does and encourage all the students to learn in his class. He likes the student to be able to participate by asking questions and show interest about the topics.
This is my second class with professor Matthews, he is just one of the best exercise science professors MSU has. He's a chill professor, labs are fun, he does lectures online which I like and homework quizzes are open notes. Professor Matthews's classes are mapped out so nice I wish other classes are like it. HIGHLY recommend professor Matthews!
Half was online and half was in person. Great professor to have. Gives good feedback, a lot of homework.
Professor Matthews is an amazing instructor. I have had him for two classes and he even remembered me from his previous class, which is something I appreciated. His lectures are very informative because he makes us read the PowerPoints then reviews them in class if we do not understand them. I highly recommend his class
A fair teacher. You have several group assignments that have a clear structure and way to do them. In regards of your practical exam although simple he does check for accuracy and the precise way to do the skill at hand. Overall he is a great teacher!
Dr. Matthew's class was great. He give Async lecture videos that you would have to watch on your own time in order to take the quizzes. The quizzes are super easy and straightforward. Everything that is on the quizzes is taken directly from the videos. There are a few group assignments, practical exam and 2 exams. I would definitely recommend.
Dr. Matthews is a very organized professor that knows all his material very well. He encourages you to participate in class and gives you feedback. He likes the student to ask questions all the time this way everyone is on the same page.
Dr. Matthews is an excellent professor and is very knowledgeable! Make sure to understand the material and you will do well. The format of the class is asynchronous over the weekends and face to face every other week switching off with online. Face to face includes lecture in person and lab, while online includes a lecture and online graded lab.
Dr. Matthews is a has exceptional knowledge regarding cardiovascular system. I highly recommend to attend his classes in Fall semester. It was an amazing experience I had with him. Thank you for being there HS
Prof has a lot of knowledge in field but doesn't articulate to students. Post previously recorded undergrad lectures for graduate level class and doesn't touch on them again. He also doesn't post study guides, expects you to know what is on test. Class is 150 mins long, only gives 90 mins to complete conceptual, critical thinking questions on exams
this professor is a professor who gives you the chance to succeed and do well, if your struggling he provides you with extra credit and extra time to complete whatever needs to be completed.
this professor is a great professor, he gives you the opportunity to succeed and do well within the class
Professor Matthews is a great professor for any class he teaches. He's very organized and has everything planned out for his students to succeed in class. He mixes in person and zoom which is very helpful.
He is a really good teacher for this course. He provided tools for everyone to succeed, but the class is a lot of information and you'll need to pay extra attention to get a good grade. Overall I found his teaching style very nice actually and I learned a lot from this course.
Very straight forward, organized, & regimented. Helpful in staying organized & prepared. Grading breakdown is helpful for poor test takers. Technologically savvy lectures to replay& refer back to in future endeavors. You will do well if you stay on top of the weekly assignments. Lots of content covered & fast paced, only drawback.
This isn't as much a comment about the professor so much as it is about MSU as a whole. I don't particularly care for how they word a lot of the tests. This is especially true in Dr. Matthew's course. The attempts at rewording information for the tests so that they're not verbatim from the text to be a bit of a pain tends to be confounding.
I will have to say that Dr. Matthews is one of the best professors in his department, including Dr. Horn. The anatomy portion of the body including inner workings is a little difficult for me. Dr. Matthews was more than willing to meet with me outside of classroom hours to help me with my work. Would definitely take this professor again!
Dr. Matthews by far was an amazing teacher and made sure your questions were answered or where to look for answers. This course is not about memorizing but understanding. Every week there is a quiz and online lectures. Tests are not found on the internet and you will have to make sure you understand the concepts. Extra credit available if need.
He is a great professor, and really knows his stuff. Be sure to attend class, and ask questions. In person labs are very interesting and can be fun to do. Hald of the class was in person, the other half was remote. Would definitely take Prof. Matthews again.
Excellent at breaking down topics. Very approachable. Quizzes are just like the Power Points. Extra Credit opportunities. Grades tougher on labs. Took this as a summer session def wish I could take him in a full semester bc of how knowledgeable he is. Has many videos are what is expected for the practicals. Maps out what is expected for class.
Amazing professor! I definitely recommend taking him for both EXSC331 and PEMJ320. He is a bit of a tough grader when it comes to the assignments but he does provide a lot of feedback to help you improve. His exams also consist of critical thinking questions, so you definitely have to understand the material.
Dr. Matthews has taught a lot on gaining a much deeper understanding when it comes to preparing for exams and lectures. In addition, I have learned a lot in his class this semester. I would definitely say it is best to take him if you decide to get into the Exercise Science masters' program. The office hours and extra help were very useful.
Dr. Matthews is an incredible Professor and I greatly enjoyed taking his class. The content is difficult but he makes it easy to understand. Just be ready to participate, take quizzes, and study a ton. Exams are pretty hard but quizzes are all open book. Dr. Matthews is very caring and understanding so study a lot and you'll do well!
This was a great class to take. Attendance is madiatroy. There are labs that are to be completed, but are worked on in groups. Homework, quizzes and test are manageable when studying properly. Would definitely take this professor and class again.
This class was great. Attendance is mandatory, there are labs that need to be completed but you get to work on them in groups. Homework, quizzes, and test ate manageable when you studied the material but they are all open book
Dr. Matthews is a great professor. This is now the second class I've taken him for and you won't regret it. His exams are all open book but you really need to understand the subject matter to do well. He does lectures hybrid but labs are mandatory and you do group assignments. He is a caring professor and wants to see you succeed if you are trying!
Dr. Matthews is an incredible professor. I have learned a lot in his class. His exams consist of critical thinking questions, so you have to understand the material. I would definitely take this professor again.
Dr.Matthews is an amazing, organized, and passionate professor! He is very accessible outside of the classroom. Online quizzes, homework, and exams except for the practical, though exams are still difficult as you have to understand and study the lectures to take them. 100% would recommend him to anyone and would take him again!!
This class covers a lot of material, but Dr. Matthews provides the tools to succeed. Attendance is mandatory, and labs are group-based. Unstuck ai was super helpful for quiz and test prep - saved me time while still understanding the concepts.
Great professor!
Great professor! we would meet only once a week to go over slides( we vote on what slides to go over) and to do labs. Labs were fun and required participation with classmates. Slides also included very detailed videos. An online quiz was due every Sunday on the slides and 3 online exams. I would recommend taking him! exams aren't bad.
I appreciate this professor's ability to explain concepts clearly during lectures. He has a relaxed and engaging teaching style, and he seems to genuinely understand the underlying meaning of the material.
Dr. Matthews is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. There is a lot of material, and it is dense, so get ready to study. His exams are very application-based compared to how he teaches, so learning to connect the dots is very important. You will get so much out of this class and do well if you study!
I have taken this Professor's courses for both undergraduate and grad courses. He is a very fair grader, and his lectures are interesting. He is big on hybrid format, which I appreciate. His tests are open-book, but there is a time limit on all exams. If you have the opportunity to take him, I do recommend it. He is a great Professor to learn from
Dr. Matthews' class was not the easiest class but he makes everything, including grading very clear cut. He provides extra credit opportunities and is always open to answering questions. His exams were more applied concepts than anything else because he wants to make sure his students understand how to apply them to real life. Overall great class!
He made sure that we fully understood all the concepts, which is truly amazing about his teaching style. He employed methods that encouraged active participation from everyone in the class, making it a more engaging and effective learning experience.
He can joke around with you but can also stay serious when he needs to be. A lot of online work but it's not that hard. I took the class over the spring and during my spring break I got a head of all of his assignments which made the class easier. Somedays you meet in person and other days the class is online.
Professor Evans is very caring and genuinely wants students to succeed. Offers extra credit points and provides PowerPoints for all lessons. He takes the time to thoroughly explain the material, especially if the class is struggling on a topic. Clearly knowledgable and passionate about the subject.
Dr. Matthews is very knowledgeable about the material. He offers a few extra credit opportunities and is always happy to answer questions. Take him if you can!
"I want other students to know that this professor is very knowledgeable and genuinely cares about student learning. Their lectures are well-structured, and they explain complex topics clearly. If you're willing to put in the effort, you'll learn a lot from this course."
Really chill professor. All of his lectures are youtube videos he's pre-recorded. He's really good about making sure you understand material before moving forward
Is amazing and understanding. I definitely came out learning so much that I can take out in the field of work!
10/10 recommend
Overall a great and very interesting class that is taught in a hybrid format. Dr. Matthews has clear expectations and demands active participation, so that everyone can get the most out of the class. He cares a lot about helping his students understand the content and is open to answering any questions that arise.
Loved this class. Dr. Mathews is such a caring and passionate professor and it shows though his teaching. Totally recommend
He was very nice. The way he formats the class doesn't make your brain hurt. He is very open to answering any question you have.
The class was well organized and communicated clearly. Nothing felt overwhelming, and grading was fair. Not a high-pressure environment, but you still learn what you need to. A reliable professor to take.
Professor Matthews keeps the course structured and predictable. He explains the material clearly, and the workload is fair for the level of the class. As long as you attend and participate, you should do well. Overall a solid professor who runs the class professionally.
Makes sure you understand and go to lab that's where all the work is.
Very caring and understating prof. I was not stressed out once this entire semester because everything is spaced out very well, and the assignments are not difficult at all. He is a great lecturer
Dr. Matthews is a very knowledgeable and well organized individual. This class was hybrid and he gave us plenty of time to complete homework, quizzes and exams. Labs were fun and helped you learn the material more. My only downside is the in person lectures are a bit boring and tend to drag, especially if no one participants or asks questions.
Dr. Matthews is one of the best professors that I have had at Montclair. He is very knowledgeable about the subject matter, and he has prerecorded lectures on YouTube that are great. His class is interesting, and so are the labs. There were two exams, and they were pretty straightforward if you paid attention and took notes on the videos.
You'll pass just make sure you attend class and do the work. This class was hybrid, so we met and went online the next class, Make sure you stay attentive for labs and participate. Overall not difficult at all.
Absolute dog of a teacher.
Easily in the Mount Rushmore of Montclair State university's best professors. Great guy, very understanding, just pay attention and stay on top of your assignments and you'll leave with a great grade.
