v. smart & funny. incredibly patient, will explain till u get it. luv his class!

He plays clips from Seinfeld and Simpsons to supplement lectures
he's cute ^^
Funny... actually makes the terrible subject fun and interesting
such a cutie
evan tiffany is goodlooking, knowledgable, but very tough...his exams are difficult and challenging..but very nice guy, very nice =)
loved it. he taught students how to *do* philosophy for themselves, instead of spouting about what a bunch of dead poets said.
is it legal to show movie clips in class?
If he weren't cute, we would've fallen asleep at lectures. Sounds like he's undergoing puberty. Videos help illustrate key points about the material of the course, yet he's very difficult to follow.
I am willing to differentiate between the teacher and the class. I didn't find Phil-120 particularly interesting, but Evan Tiffany does a good job of conveying that...ha.
pretty nice~exms&papers ok lo..
Very high on himself. He told the class that no one was allowed to refer to him by his first name. It had to be Professor Evans. Also had negative marking on MCQ exams.
best philosophy prof ever
Great prof, funny guy

SO cute haha, how old is he? Well he's funny and interesting. He makes the course "fun" but yeah he has hard exams and sometimes he's hard to follow.
Anyone that consistently incorporates Simpsons clips in lectures is a great prof in my books.
Seems a little less confident in this class than in his lower-division classes. The class can be a little confusing.
He's a nice guy...but the course sucks. I could never understand what he was talking about. Don't take this class.
very...interesting class. c'mon, the simpsons and asian films! was fun! a lot of the ppl that had problems with this class were used to clear-cut pwr pt. notes and yes/no answers. definitely not going to get those here.
He tries to get comments-when he does he can't explain what he actually means. He does Phil on gut instinct- which as students-we don't have yet. The TA will make it clear.See them.Forget about Tiffany. Not a bad course tho.Good TAs. Do it-lectures are fun.
He's clever alright, but his lectures were sometimes a bit superficial - too many exams, too much stress on passage identification - this is philosophy, we're supposed to be thinking and writing.Still, he's young. And a real looker - worth it just for that!
90% of the profs on this site who get a hot symbol aren't really. He is exception. Fun and easy class.
personally i sucked on the first paper, just average, but got better as the semeter went on. he knows what he is talking about, is objective, and likes discussion in class. overall, it is an interesting class, but so darn easy in terms of papers & final.
A bit confusing at times, but really makes you think. His lectures were interesting, with Simpsons and the Daily Show clips, but they could get a bit dry at times. Very easy on the eyes and his voice makes you wanna fall over.
pompous and condescending! he is smart, i'll give him that much, but he treats his students like toddlers! he will waste your money and time by giving you lectures at the beginning of every class about not reading enough and not being bright enough. DEFINATELY NOT HOT either.
Tiffany is very childish. He points out students who talk during every class, as well as lectures everyone on how we do not read the course texts. The course is terrible, but he does explain the concepts somewhat well.
The guy is a pompous ****bag!Very unapproachable. Uses big outdated words to sound smart, all it does is scare students cause we don't know what the hell he's talking about. Spends most of the time "warning" people about not talking in class..get over yourself.Maybe it's cause we don't understand?

this course is a GPA booster! Not so tough that you'll struggle to keep up rather than learn, but just right so u'll LEARN in this class. it's true that the prof is kind of stuck up, unapproachable and unclear, but that's b/c he's an american in Canada...the cultural stamp is apparent on him.
Boo! Makes ethical philosophy dettached from the real world. Studying realistic delimma's would be more valuble in an introductory course. BOOOurns! SOOOOOOOO NOT Impressed!!!
Minimum amount of reading. If you pay attention in class and really use your brain then I don't think any reading is required. Very awesome class that gets you thinking, unless you plan to just sit and sleep in class.

The worst course ever.
Evan is a great teacher. He works really hard to help his students succeed. He is very smart and you will learn a great deal if you do the readings and pay attention in class. I would guess that most of the people who gave him poor readings were afraid to read and learn. If you are, stay away; if you aren't, then sign up.
Very intelligent, not as intimidating/self-important as a lot of the department's profs... good guy, very helpful during office hours; always wears baggy jeans & baseball cap - might be a raver.
Good prof, helpful - chill.
I'm a 3rd yr phil. student and I think hes the smartest person I've ever met. You can just see the gears turning. And he's wants students to succeed. That said, I find his personality to be very cold, he's quite inaproachable and its difficult to be friendly with him, personally he makes me quite nervous, as such I only went to his office hrs once.
An OK prof. He likes to engage the class in discussion during lectures. Good for involvement/questions, but lectures sometimes got a bit off track cuz of so much discussion. Makes you do peer-reviews of your papers and some little writing exercises that seemed like busy-work.
I think he's a pretty hot prof, haha. He's fun to watch, lots of movie and tv show clips during lecture. The essays aren't easy though, going to lecture is not enough to do well in this course. You have to do ALL of the assigned reading, and its good to get your TA to help clarify things. With philosophy it's easy to miss the point.
I would have liked the class better if the readings were the original philosophy texts like in some other phil courses. Instead, he used articles written by other people about Socrates' thought, etc. Made it less detailed and more difficult to understand the concepts precisely.
Evan Tiff is freakin hot. Plus he's a great teacher, I'm not a fan of philosophy but I loved this class. Yeah, you have to keep up with the readings, but thats like any university class...
After what I read, i thought he'd be hotter. But he's nice and a cool guy. Take his class, especially if you're not a philosophy major because the other profs are not nearly as fun.
Not a big fan of this guy... totally monotone and pauses for a breath between each and every word.. I've been in his class for over a month, and even with 2 lectures/week we still haven't moved past the concept we started the course with.. ...and... I don't think these raters have ever really looked at him...
He's a really nice, funny guy who knows how to keep his students paying attention and interesting. He goes over all the information and posts his notes. Overall, he's a great professor.
This guy is lame. He picks two points and beats them for an hour. He talks in a slow monotone. What content is there gets lost pretty easily in the boredom of the lecture. I hear he's better in seminar, but in a large lecture, he's pretty ineffective.
he is not good at phiL001.. gotta c (001)but c+ for phiL120...
Dr.Tiffany's class is good times. His explanations are clear and interesting and he leads good discussion, even in lecture. Shows a lot of movie clips, makes the information relevant. NINE papers though- 6 short, 3 long, which has been a ****, although again, the subject matter is good.
Total cutie. (And a great prof too :).
great prof, knows his stuff. I would take a class with him again. Cute too!
He tries to hard to get us to understand the vague things he says.
Lousy prof, his lectures were very vague and boring. Dosesnt help if most of the class is in 3rd and 4th year because its on a stupid curve... this is supposed to be a first year course. Also doesnt help if you have a**** TA
This course was krap. 20% of the marks came from reading quizzes that test in-depth what we read for that week. That meant 90% of the work was done by me scrambling, trying to figure out what some hot-shot thought of free will, and then I got to go to class and listen to Tiffany carry on about some lame, two-cent bit of information.
Boring lectures, boring tutorials...sigh. Phil 120 with this guy = death unless you're good at unraveling his contradicting words in his monotone voice. Stay away from him if you dont want to get killed. Hes not even good looking like the ratings imply...
Dr. Proffesor Tiffany I hope you read this: YOU ARE A SOFT TALKER. SPEAK UP PLEASE! It does not help that you speak so eloquently that you lose most of the class who is trying to learn these convoluting concepts. Half the class is just trying to stay awake at 1:20 in the afternoon. Furthermore you frighten the **** out of us with your exams.
I do not recommend his class. His notes are unorganized and confusing. His handwriting is uncomprehensible and cluttered, often big words that you cant even figure out what the relation is to the relevant topic. He speaks in monotone and his lectures are a snorefest. He knows his stuff but he is really bad at TEACHING it. Stay away if you can.
this guy is not funni at all he thinks he is and his monotone voice just makes him even more boring. Also movies he shows us is totally random, do not reccomend
Obviously, one disgruntled student got online on Feb. 26th and tried to trash Dr. Tiffany. I have taken alot of his courses. He's great. Don't pay attention to the 5 previous posts. Interesting, entertaining...fun.
he's a nice guy but he just cant teach. the course itself itsnt that great, but he makes it really dry. he takes a point and goes in circles instead of being straightforward.
He seems to have a good personality. He cares about students in some ways. Drawback is that he talks in a way it is confusing sometimes, although the material itself is a bit trick, still TA will help you on this. The exams are fair as long as you cover the review sheet throughly.
Not the easiest prof, but definitely one of greatest profs I have ever had at SFU. Fun lectures, fair marks for paper. He actually gives yo study guide which covers almost everything in MD and Final. You have options for essay questions, could choose ones u r most confident with. Also good to have a responsible TA.
A sharp thinker who prepares you well for exams. His style of lecturing can make the concepts seem convoluted, but listening to the tapes while studying was actually helpful. I also had an awesome TA who explained the material perfectly, so overall it was a fun course to take. Recommended for people who enjoy ethical debates and logical thinking.
Wow...this class was HARD. But that is probably because it was my first time taking a philosophy course. Good luck. Read read read and GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He gives you hints for the exams and papers lol. Like so much help with them I'm not even kidding. Oh and he likes to show lots of movie clips during lectures. It was fun too.
Lectures are boring. Content is NOT ENGAGING and he makes things more complicated than it needs to be. The course itself is fairly difficult, and this prof is no help to you if you're lost or confused. Word of advice: even if Tiffany isn't your prof, don't take this course. But my point is he's a boring and useless prof.
Really hard course. Philosophy is useless along with Tiffany, hard content, bad exam prep and I had a useless TA
an excellent teacher. prepares his lecture with uttmost care and work.
why i am now majoring in phil.
He's giving pretty boring lectures and you need to be really focus and interested in Philosophy in order to feel he's a good prof.
He wrote his own textbook which was really really easy to understand (and save us some money too!) His voice is really passive so the lecture's kinda boring but the content itself is really interesting. Overall, I give it a "B"
Lectures are kind of dry and boring, mainly due to prof's style of speech delivery. Frequent videos. Uses his own textbook, so it's free. Material on the surface appears difficult, but with some thought involved, this course can be very straightforward and simple. His study guides prepares you well for the exams, as it is very revealing.
I did pretty badly in this class, but Tiffany's a great prof. He renewed my interest in Philosophy. Actually interesting lectures. Hard marker on essays though and didn't write many helpful comments. I'd definitely take another class with him!
The material in can be brutally difficult at times so make sure you do the readings, attend class, & participate in discussion. Don't be afraid to ask for clarity. He marks pretty tough at this level but if you go to his office hours he will give you absolutely priceless tips on how to take your papers from fail to A. Be prepared to work hard!
Evan was great. This was my first semester at SFU and I thought he was amazing. He loves to show tv shows during his class (Simpsons, South Park, etc....). 120W ranks right up there with the most thought provoking classes I have EVER had. Do your readings, ask questions, don't make assumptions, and challenge YOUR assumptions.
Took history of phil. II with him. Would never take a class with this prof again. Said "um" over 60 times in the first lecture. Monotone voice. In a class that had the potential to be interesting, I was really surprised at the quality. We went over divine foreknowledge/fatalism (though the concepts of fw/d were never explained well) way too much.
Definitely would take a class with him again. His lectures are well prepared and he encourages participation. Interesting and funny.
Dr T was a nice guy. He highly encourages participation and often the 50 min class goes by too fast. very thought provoking class, heavy on the theory so know your kant/utilitarianism. didn't think i'd like the class at first, but I had an amazing TA, and ended with an A+. you need to really know how to write a good phil paper though. exams all MC
My biggest complaint is his commitment to charitability. He misunderstood a classmate of mine twice, assuming she was being uncharitable. I'd say that's pretty hypocritical, although he was trying to be fair.
I'm a phil major who has taken over 15 phil courses at SFU and I have never been so disappointed with a class before. It's not a writing course but we wrote five 1000 word papers and homework assignments each week that r at least another 700 words each. I never learned anything from attending lectures. Overall just bad. Too much work, no learning.
my first sem at sfu, and I'm glad I have a class with Dr Tiffany. This is the only class I don't dread going to. He makes you think critically and encourages students to voice their own opinions. don't procrastinate on your papers!
Really good prof, lots of readings, but if you don't do them all it's not the end of the world as her clearly explains everything during lecture. Minimal amount of writing, and as long as you studied the tests are fairly easy. Pretty good class, I took it as a w requirement and it was a really good decision.
Evan is an AMAZING professor. Admittedly, I developed a little bit of a crush on him within 3 seconds of his first lecture but it kept me focused and coming to class. He explains everything with such clarity and available for extra help too. His lectures are never dry. Evan, you da best! We had 3 papers I think, midterm (easy!) and a final
the worst phil prof I have had so far. I have never worked so hard in a course(reading every assigned readings 2+ times, studying so hard for the final exam, spending many hours on papers, coming to every lecture) and received such a low mark for my efforts. If you want discouragement in your academic life, take this prof.
NIce guy who's really passionate about what he's talking about, however, the way he talks is sooo boring. Lectures are important because of clicker questions, but they are BORING! my TA sucked but my friends TA was good, they mark papers VERY hard. The lecture slides get posted and they have useful info on them.
It is my first time taking a course with Dr. Tiffany. I found his lectures very intriguing, and he is very good at explaining complicated concepts and arguments. For a writing course, I found the structure and assignments of the papers very fair. TA was awesome which helped as well. Overall a very enjoyable class, good for a W credit!
First time taking a class with Dr. Tiffany, and it was amazing! He is honestly one of the most kind and caring profs I've had so far. Super approachable, super caring, and really good at breaking down complicated papers. I would highly recommend taking this course with him. The course itself is reading and lecture heavy, but he makes it easier.
Evan Tiffany is a great Prof to have for this class. PHIL 120W is based off many papers and Dr. Tiffany breaks them down clearly for you to understand. I enjoyed taking the class with him. He is very caring, engaging and funny. We had 3 papers and a final. Papers were simple and topics taught in this class were very interesting. Great Prof!!!
He is an amazing prof who is passionate and knowledgable, if you ever watch "The Good Place" he is legit Michael ! Would 10/10 recommend.
This class was a really good introduction to philosophy and helps you to understand the basics of writing and reconstructing a good argument. The testing format is a little odd as there is only one, being the final, but as long as you do well on your papers it's not too big of a deal. Make sure you understand the key concepts.
there are several readings each week usually and they are long and dry and boring but that is what this class is about. he tries to make it a fun and interesting class for the topics covered. you have to go to lecture because there is iclicker participation. no midterm, only a final and it is quite hard.
I would say Evan is a good prof, he really digs into the readings and tries to explain every single detail for you. But this makes the lecture become a bit heavy for a 3-credit 200-lv course. He also grades a bit tough because he really wants students to success in the future. Overall, you should take his course to learn more.
Professor Tiffany is a great guy himself, and very invested in his lecture and ability to explain the content. For a 100 course, it seems more difficult than a lot of 200 classes homework, writing and reading-wise. The TAs grade HARD, and don't give good reasons for the marks you've received. Very harsh for a first year course.
Evan himself seems like a really nice guy and he tries to make the lectures entertaining. TA's mark a bit hard for a first year class and are not super clear about how they are giving them out, but overall a pretty fun class.
Awesome prof. Because it was online, students didn't have any mandatory meetings with him, as all tutorials were led by TA's and his lectures were pre-recorded. The only problem of this class were the TA's. None of their decisions matched, which frustrated a lot of students. Overall, though, Tiffany is awesome if you get the chance to talk to him.
Evan seems to be a great guy. Class isn't too hard as I read non of the reading and still did pretty solid on my papers. Breaks down how to write a proper philosophy paper and makes it an easy process. I would defiantly take this class if you have a hard schedule and need something easier. The only thing is TA's can be inconsistent with marks.
I barely met the guy, but Dr. Tiffany is nice; However, his lectures are not as clear as he thinks it is, which makes it really hard to complete the papers. If he's going to have a 2 hr office hour, he might as well change it to an actual lecture. There's no clear criteria, so your grade is up to what your ta thinks you deserve.
This course is extremely interesting, however the marking is so inconsistent it's crazy. The TA's in this class will determine your mark, not your actual work. I never met Evan, but he seems like a great person and prof. I just can not get over how unjustified my marks were throughout the term, all because my TA marks different than others...??
prof explains things well and I actually enjoyed his class BUT, his TA's have serious issues. they don't have clear grading criteria's for the paper so essentially TA's make up whatever mark they want to. had to argue and show that I did include the thing they asked for then they would be like "oh my bad" & fix it. shouldnt have to prove our marks.
Not sure why is everyone upset about marking. Although I might have had a nice TA, I thought the assignment marking was very straightforward to the point. And Evan let us know all the points that need to be included in the assignment and papers. He literally make an outline for your paper in the class so you don't really need to use your brain.
Evan Tiffany is a fun professor who provides an engaging lecture using real-world examples. Tutorials are mandatory to attend for participation. Almost all of the assignments are marked by the TA's so the grading scheme can be unfair and may be inconsistent. Final exam was okay if you understood all the lectures and showed up to the tutorials.
Thoroughly enjoyed his Phil120W class. There were weekly worksheets, two papers, and a final. The lectures and the topics that were covered were really intriguing. The final is a breeze as long as you pay attention during lectures and tutorial. Overall great prof.
Evan was amazing, his lectures were entertaining! PRO tip get super close with your Teacher Assistant and be engaged and you'll get a stellar grade. Ask to meet privately and discuss assignment to make sure you understand exactly what they're looking for AND to ket them know you care about your grade. Be open minded and think, its philosophy
Probably the best professor I've had so far. The lectures in his class are amazing and keep you way more entertained than any other class I've taken. I would love to take another class with this prof. He's really funny and helpful. For this class though the grading is all done by the TA and they are super tough and unfair, so the class is hard.
This guy should have a wayyyy higher rating IMO. Really good at getting information across and keeping content interesting. Super clear about what he wants and makes the asynchronous lectures engaging. You really don't have to do the readings for this class, as long as you pay attention in lecture. Highly suggest this class w/ Evan!
Evan is fantastic!! my favourite prof this semester, he is so engaging and clearly explains and elaborates on material. The course material itself is pretty interesting and Evan applies it in easy to understand ways and has cute drawings on his slides. not a taxing class at all! definitely take it, I wish he had more lower level classes
Evan has been a real lifesaver this semester. Phil 120w is a really great course and the way he teaches is super engaging. He provides our weekly readings (the BEST!) and makes a great effort to balance synchronous/asynchronous class time. The assignments are also really great as they're all about improving on your past work.
Lectures are clear and entertaining, making difficult topics understandable. This is a W course so there's a ton of writing, but the criteria are super clear and you shouldn't have any problem if you refer to them. No textbook, readings provided online for free which is nice, but the articles can be quite lengthy and dry.
Professor Tiffany is one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever come across when it comes to Philosophy. You can tell by his lectures he genuinely loves what he does, and is extremely passionate talking about it. Grading is difficult in this course, but it gets easier after the first assignment, since you'll now know what to expect from TA's.
The last Phil course I took I dropped because it was soooo boring, but I needed one for my degree so I chose this one. I'm so glad I did!! Prof Tiffany was super engaging & very passionate about the content. I didn't get a great grade on my first paper, but the TA I had (Daniel) gave great feedback :)
Overall, decent class. You are marked on three papers, participation in tutorial, and worksheets. Worksheets are not hard, they're marked purely on effort. Papers are marked a bit harder. The average for the first paper was 67%. You can do well if you discuss with Evan or the TA ahead of time to know what they're looking for. Lectures aren't bad.
Although the concepts of this course were relatively new to me, Dr. Tiffany made everything easy to follow by explaining the content in-depth while also maintaining an easy-to-follow and engaging environment. The marking was fair and there was a sufficient amount of feedback as well. The exam was fairly easy, but the wording was quite tricky.
Evan Tiffany is by far the most amazing professor I've had. Amazing lectures - he inserts a lot of jokes and cultural references to make it easier for us to understand. There are quite a few papers and writing assignments every week, and the grading is rather tough.
No midterm, and he gave a lot of time for the MC final. A very easy-going professor and very helpful TA's as well.
Prof Tiffany was super nice and you could tell that he cared more about your understanding of concepts rather than marks, not to mean that you would get a bad grade, but you could tell he was very knowledgeable and passionate about his lectures. If anything he is a bit too kind for a prof. TA's were helpful and respectful but a little inconsistent.
Single Handedly caused me to decide to minor in philosophy. An engaging lecturer, fair grader, clear, nice, and knowledgeable.
He is supper nice, knowledgeable, and easy to reach professor.
I'm taking this class as an elective, but I genuinely enjoy it so much. I look forward to class every week, and the assignments do take effort but they're not too difficult! I would definitely recommend taking this class with Prof Tiffany.
Great teacher, easy class. Attend lecture and pay attention and you will do fine on assignments and quizzes
Evan is a great prof. If you do the readings and attend lecture, the class will not be difficult. Weekly quizzes and assignments, but not hard if you've attended lecture. You know exactly how the grading works which is great. Took this class as an elective and would highly recommend. You cannot get away with doing the bare minimum, but still easy.
A really kind and caring prof who really cares about his students. He would answer your questions patiently and can fix quiz marks if the question is confusing. The course is straightforward and clear (3 papers, 12 quizzes, 12 pass/fail assignments and one final) and there is no time limit when doing the quizzes.
Expect a LOT of assignments, minimum 3 a week: Quizzes, weekly papers, heavy readings and 1,000+ word papers all due within the same week. Evan is very sweet but the TA's are so hard and make everything much more complicated and very minimally help- They are all briefed on how to give help.... which isn't the best as they did not offer a lot ofhelp
I really enjoyed this class and prof Tiffany. There are weekly quizzes based off the lecture, and weekly 250-500 word write ups about the readings. There are 3 big writing assignments (40%), and a half take-home (20%) half in-person final (20%). Overall this class was a fun course to take, some weeks are boring but most weeks are very interesting!
Gives a weekly quiz and 200-500 word prompts all based on lecture (super easy if you go to class and understand content). There are 3 big assignments (skill 1, skill 2, skill 3), also super easy. Final was take home and just copy pasting 5 of your weekly prompts. The other half of final was based off of quizzes, so only revise those. Great class!
Honestly the easiest class I've ever taken. There's lots of assignments but they're relatively simple and, at least with my TA, were graded kindly. Dr. Tiffany's lectures are super engaging and he's great at explaining the readings. Papers were also straightforward and we had a couple options on what to write for two of them. Overall W class
Evan's lectures are great because he presents them as a story. However, my one complaint is that sometimes the story could be presented better to reduce confusion (the order in which the information is presented). Another notable aspect of his teaching is that the grading scheme is solid.
fantastic prof. super funny and helpful, fair grading and expectations. awesome class
Chill and easy class. The weekly quizzes are actually quite helpful and the assignments are all pretty simple. His lectures are interesting and he's good at explaining everything. The final was really easy and was mostly based off the weekly quiz questions. Only complaint is the mandatory tutorial attendance which is worth 5% of the total grade.
I had to take a PHIL class as a requirement and I'm so glad I took this one. Dr. Tiffany was one of the only reasons I could understand philosophy (TA Chrys was also amazing). fantastic sideshow art made readings easy to grasp and he went over difficult questions in weekly quizzes. Questions would even be omitted if many people didn't understand
Evan is a top-notch professor. Very knowledgeable, with clear and fair expectations. Although he grades on a very steep scale, high marks were achievable if you focused during class and did the readings. Using Perusall as a communal reading platform was helpful and an easy grade booster. Would recommend!
There's legit only 3 assignments in this class and the material isn't hard. although lectures aren't mandatory, should probably attend because the slides he posts only have photos. his assignment criteria is worded confusingly, even the TA was unsure when we were asking her questions. Overall easy course tho
Very easy class. No midterms but there is a final. There were only 3 papers to write and a few small reflections. Lectures are easy to understand
Final grade was based on a variety of things and grading criteria was reasonable. Tiffany's classes were always super interesting. Probably, the best prof I've had in my time at SFU. There was some confusion surrounding some assignments with the TAs themselves being unsure of what the assignment was about, but that's all.
I really enjoyed the course I thought It was great. My only gripe is the final project, worth 30%, I believed I produced my best college level essay, and I only got a B-, while the other projects with lower weight, I believe were pretty dogsh*t, got a literal 100%?? hello?
He's definitely an engaged professor, it's easy to see that he loves what he does, and the lectures themselves are interesting. That being said, you're graded on 6 things total. 10% for skill 1, 20 for skill 2, 30 for 3/4, and 30 for the final. 10 Goes to participation. So if you don't do too well on more than one thing, you're in trouble.
Evan's a nice guy, you can tell he cares about the subject and his students. However, the grading system is absolutely atrocious. For example, you need to get 77.08% just for a B-. I got 22/24 on an assignment and only got an A- and got 20/24 on another assignment worth 20% and got a B-. I'm praying that he'll eventually just scale or curve.
wouldn't recommend taking a writing course with this professor who made this first year course challenging. The average on the final exam was only 60%. Grading was unfair. Get ready to read every week! The exam questions were literally based on both assigned readings and lecture slides. 97% is A+???? Phil 120 is not a GPA booster.
Really solid prof, engaging lectures, and explains well. Assignments are fair/made sense but I'd agree that the grading is a little atrocious. Not much feedback on assignments and they mark on the harder side,I took the little feedback they gave, applied it to my paper and somehow got lower the second time? good thing i cooked on the final.
Dr. Tiffany really cares about his students and his teaching style is very engaging. The readings are not too challenging if you spend time to really understand them, and if there are any confusions, Dr. Tiffany simplifies the readings during lectures. The only thing I didn't enjoy about this class was the grading. The final was also fair.
Professor Tiffany was a pretty decent prof, clear and direct at explaining things. However his lectures at times tended to be boring and a little dry and it caused me to lose focus. He was very helpful at answering additional questions any students had. One complaint is the info about papers was often minimal until before they were due.
Dr. Tiffany is an overall good professor, but his lectures can be a bit confusing as he adds so much information, including examples and concepts into 30-50 slides a class. It can be tough to understand everything the first time and not get tired of some of the topics. The final exam was worth 30% and it covered information from 9 weeks.
Evan is a fantastic professor. This is the second course I have taken with him and I will be taking another next semester. He makes the material very accessible, despite it being very dense legal philosophy. His courses seem to be quite writing heavy (one essay a week for the first five weeks plus a term paper), but he offers great feedback/support
Professor Tiffany is a great professor. Took this course as an upper division elective, and he makes philosophy easy to understand. This course requires lots of reading if you want to do well, and lectures are a MUST. Lots of small papers to write, and he drops 2 of the lowest quizzes. Midterm/final were easy if u studied well for quizzes!
