Dr Ward is a very nice man, but he is also very unorganized. You can ask him all the questions you want, but I guarantee you will still be confused about what is required. He likes to take huge pauses in his lectures. Really nice, but I would suggest finding another teacher.
Professor Ward is amazing at teaching Latin American & Mexico hist. which is his specialty. You should check out his ratings at the last school he taught at in Alabama (they are really good} As far as worldciv goes, I don't know, but if you want a HELPFUL, NICE, INTERESTING history teacher that will not kill you off with busy work, take Dr. Ward.
Nice guy... easy class (for a history class that is)... I got a D in Hist 201 the first time I took it, and I was dreading taking the class again, but I enjoyed Ward's class. He seemed a little unorganized at first, but after the first exam, I had his teaching style down. The pros outweighed the cons with this Professor.

I took 202 the first semester Dr. Ward came to BYU and he's fabulous! His lectures are very stimulating and he is very open to answering questions that others have. He or his TA's do review sessions before the tests which is extremely helpful. I'm a history minor and will be taking another class from him this fall because he's great. I recommend hi
Pro. Ward is very very approachable. He went out of his way to help students out of class and attend all the test reviews. He even had special reviews and discussions of the books we had to read so that we could understand them better and have quality papers. Very nice man, great deal of experience in the Latin American area.
Professor Ward was so helpul and interesting!! He made me enjoy history and his class wasn't impossible hard because he gave clear study guides of what was on the test. I would definately suggest taking his class. He is great!!
I really have enjoyed this history class, I was dreading it all through out college, my last class as a senior and last class in to graduate. It was great! I did read 2 books and did a 3 page analysis and 2 midterms. His quizzes were mostly participation quiz, so if you went you could pass. Class was very hard to want to miss. I always wanted to g
His classes are incredible. Attendance is not mandatory but once you get engagedy, you want to be the first in line! He cares for students. He will expect you to visit with him to see the best way to help you succeed. His off. library is open to you for researh. He easily becomes like part of your family. I would like to take his classes endlessly.
I liked Prof Ward enough, he's a nice guy, but his class was always really hard for me to go to because the material covered wasn't very interesting and the classroom was really hot and the class was later in the day. I wouldn't really recommend him for a teacher, and I wouldn't take another class from him.
Dr. Ward is a great teacher, but you have to make sure you pay attention because your entire grade might be based on only less than ten assignments/tests for the whole semester, so if you mess one up, you could be in trouble. Overall he is a fantastic teacher. Very enthusiastic and loves the topics he teaches. Very student-minded!
Sir Evan Ward is a great guy. He is really helpful if you go talk to him about anything and he's really nice. However he is not a great teacher. The lectures were really boring and when it came time for the tests there was a general panic because nobody really knew what to expect or what we needed to know. I wouldn't take another class from him.
Dr. Ward is a GREAT person, just not the best teacher. He is so sincere, but his lectures are disorganized, confusing, and boring. Try not to take this class, if you can avoid it. His TAs are also VERY picky about the essays. It's really hard to get a good grade on them. Study A LOT for the tests, and review with Dr. Ward at his office first.
Boring teacher. Really nice guy and he tries really hard to make class interesting, but the monotone voice put me to sleep. he chooses odd topics to speak on and he makes many topics boring. he has a special gift in being able to make WW1 boring. The textbook is great though. The TA's are really picky on essays.
Tests are pretty easy if you know the study guide, and the essay part is not that bad, but killed a lot of people. The actual essay killed me. Class not required, and is kinda boring.
The class was very interesting, and the lectures were full of good information. Studying for the tests is labor intensive but totally worth it. Take all of your papers and outlines to the TA and they will be extremely helpful. Take good notes and keep the big picture in mind
This class was everything a GE class should be. Grading was fair, tests were tough but manageable. Dr. Ward focused on putting things into a historical context, rather than on random facts and dates. Very interesting--he's a smart guy, and he's humble. This is a class a good student can enjoy. There was quite a bit of reading and a paper or two.
Professor Ward was great. There were required weekly journal entries and some random simple assignments, but they were very manageable. The bulk of your grade is your research paper and related assignments. He is always willing to help and give you input. I would highly recommend.
Dr. Ward was great! The class could be boring at times but he really cares about the success of students and will do everything possible to help. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Ward is the best teacher I have had so far at BYU. His lectures are extremely interesting. You are never bored in his class. The tests aren't bad if you study the study guide well. He is funny and well-organized (I don't know why other reviews say he isn't). I highly recommend him.
Dr. Ward is the nicest guy ever! You can tell that he truly cares about his students. His lectures are sometimes hard to follow but overall the class isn't too bad. STUDY FOR THE TESTS THOUGH! The tests are difficult and a lot of information. But it's not a super heavy work load until then, only a few papers here and there. I really like Dr. Ward.
Dr. Ward is a great teacher but he can become boring in the lectures that he gives. The tests are not necessarily easy, but they are fair as long as you study. I don't know why I had to buy a text book because I didn't use it after the first test and I got a 91 on the final. I like Dr. Ward and say that he is a good teacher.
Super nice guy and wants his students to do well without making them miserable. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get an "A" in his class. Do the readings, follow the study guide, and attend glass and you can EASILY get an A+. It really depends on if you're willing to do all the reading because it can be pretty intensive.
Prof Ward is a great professor. He is very clear about homework, quizes, tests, and papers. He definitely cares about each student having a good learning experience.
Dr. Ward is a great professor. He takes the mundane parts of a 202 class and makes them more exciting. He is very creative and loves his students.
Professor Ward is great. He is passionate about what he teaches and is willing to help you understand everything. Hist tests consists of multiple choice, matching, and short essays. He prepares you well for the tests with a clear study guide and review session. Will not start class without a prayer because he says he needs the Spirit's help. Great!
Loved Dr. Ward! So genuine and concerned about students. Tried very hard and often successfully to make lectures interesting. Awesome grading "deals" on quizzes, tests, and extra credit. Dr. Ward has an impressive vocabulary that can be difficult to follow, and I really disliked the textbook; however, definitely THE BEST history teacher at BYU.
Great teacher! His lectures are engaging and entertaining, and he really helps you to learn the material. You will have to read the books, but if you take notes on the reading and use his weekly study guides, you should be good for his test. If you struggle in his class, go talk to him. He is very friendly and will help you succeed.
Dr. Ward deserves more 5's! Great teacher, not easy, but I have never gotten so much feed back and help from a college professor. He is genuinely interested in his students work and was a great part of my college experience. If your thinking about history Dr. Wards class is a good place to start.
Ward is passionate about history. He tries his best to teach lectures in a way that's interesting and advantageous to learning. His exams are half multiple-choice/short essay, but he grades fairly. If you love history, take Ward's class. If you don't, take it anyway because it's not a very intense class and you gain a lot of insight.
Professor Ward is a great, caring teacher who loves the subject. That being said, his lectures are long and it's hard to stay awake, and his midterms and final have 8 short response and are fairly difficult. The homework load is low however and weekly tests are predictable.
Sometimes it was confusing to discern exactly what he wanted us to know. His lectures felt scattered at times, and difficult to comprehend the flow of information; felt logicless at times. Great guy, though, and you can tell he is invested and wants to help you. Study guide accurate, but sometimes it seemed like info on tests was never covered.
Dr. Ward made World Civ very manageable. He is super passionate about what he does and has great life advice and insights. Going to his class is frankly pretty relaxing, but you have to go to class or you won't pass the tests. Tests are manageable, just best to start studying early. Make flashcards!
Dr. Ward genuinely cares about his students and is a very engaging lecturer. Hes very invested in the actual learning process so that students arent just memorizing random things to pass the class. You might have to read a lot depending on the class you have but he aslways chooses great books and he wont assign you to read more than is possible
Dr. Ward's HIST 202 class was not too difficult. He made sure it was quite clear what was going to be on each test and helped anyone who was struggling. He is quite passionate about the subject and opened my eyes to many patterns and events across the globe, but occasionally the lectures can be a bit dry.
Evan is such a great teacher. He truly cares about his students. He is extremely passionate about history and approaches it differently than most teachers. We don't memorize dates, we experience personal stories.
This class is pretty straight forward. I didn't touch the books until I was just about to take a test and for the final paper. He's a good guy and wants his students to succeed, he doesn't make class too hard. I would recommend coming to class every time but if you miss a few your grade shouldn't suffer.
I loved Professor Ward's classes! He really has a passion for this stuff and his students. When talking about history, he makes it more of a narrative rather than just about people and dates. Truly amazing lectures -need to read the textbook to understand what is going on however. If you aren't going to read, don't take this class.
Dr. Ward is very passionate about his subject, though he understands that most of the class is there because they have to be for G.E. credit. He has a naturally monotone voice, so if that's trouble for you, be aware. He gives weekly quizzes but he gives you the answers to them beforehand. Very nice man.
Lectures are really dry but Prof Ward is such a nice guy. He'll help you out in any way you need. He gives you the answer to all quizzes before you take them, study guides for tests are really helpful, one easy group project at the end. If you have to take HIST202, Prof Ward is a solid choice.
There's not enough room for the great things I have to say about Dr. Ward and his class. Top 3 professors at BYU hands down. He truly cares about his students and about their education. He is brilliant and so passionate about history. He makes it fun and interesting. Shares perspectives I'd never heard. He's cool, supportive, and you learn a ton.
Dr. Ward is an amazing teacher! Lectures can be hard to follow sometimes (as in, you might be tempted to fall asleep) but Dr. Ward really tries to make it enjoyable by sliding in a few jokes. Read the textbook and you'll be able to follow along. He's also very willing to help anyone who is struggling. Super easy group project at the end.
Dr. Ward is hilarious! His lectures are filled with humor and interesting information. However, going to the lecture alone is not enough, you must read the textbook. Studying for the tests or you won't do well, be ready for mostly multiple-choice, some matching, and 4 or 5 short responses. Dr. Ward does give you a useful study guide though.
Dr Ward is one of my favorite teachers at BYU. I'm an Exercise Science major, and his history class has been one of my favorites. One of the nicest people you will ever meet and really funny. Class work load is relatively light, but you have to read the textbook to really do well on the tests. Group project is easy and interesting. Take Ward!!
Professor Ward is a great professor. Lots of people didn't like him because he was really lecture heavy but it was a history class. HE loved what he was talking about and could go off on tangents during the class but it wasn't a problem if you paid attention because all of the questions on the tests were based off the lectures an nothing else.
Dr. Ward is a really great professor, and he's very passionate about what he does. However, his lecture style is difficult to sit through; he often goes off on tangents, and it's never really clear what you do or don't need to know for the exams. There's tough grading on essay questions especially. I love history, but I did not enjoy this course.
Dr. Ward was a great professor. I had him when Covid send everything online. I enjoyed his lectures. He is just a really nice guy, who is very passionate about world history. 100% Would take the class again. I feel like I could have done better in the class, but that was on me. Very enjoyable class.
Most boring professor I have ever had. I don't know how you can make cool historical events boring but he did it. His lectures dragged on forever and could literally put me to sleep. Get your history credit from somebody else.
This class was not super entertaining. The lectures were long and didn't get to the point super well. 75% of the grade comes from 3 tests and 20% comes from a paper so you have to do well on those to succeed in the class.
I loved Dr. Ward! He really is such a kind professor and really cares about what you take away from the class. The midterms and finals are worth 72% of your grade though so you really have to be prepared for those but he helps a ton. There was also a pretty big textbook and 2 other nonfiction books to write essays on but its not too bad, he's great
Dr. Ward is a nice guy, but he is not a great teacher. He was very monotone, and the class grade was based on a few tests and a project. The class content was interesting, but it was hard to follow Dr. Ward's lecture. I would recommend a different professor for this class.
Professor Ward is very kind and really wants to see his students succeed. He loves what he does and does a great job of teaching new material that a lot of history classes would skip over. He also brings in inspirational speakers from diverse backgrounds which is awesome. The reading is long but his assignments and tests aren't that hard.
Dr. Ward is enthusiastic about history and it's fun to see the light in his eyes when he's lecturing on something he's particularly passionate about. He's slightly dry, but once I got used to his sense of humor that made things better. He's very clear about what will be on the tests and doesn't give us many assignments. There's not much discussion.
Professor Ward is a very nice guy and his lectures aren't all that boring. He cares a lot about his students. If you aren't a history wiz you will have no idea what he is saying. His tests are virtually impossible he does make some questions clear but others are small ideas from the lectures. Impossible to remember and study for.
Prof. Ward is such a good guy and really wants us to succeed! That being said, he gets super excited and often gets sidetracked with unimportant details. And there is just so much to cover in little time, so youll definitely have to study the book and pay attention in class.
Dr. Ward is wonderful. His lectures are fascinating, and I love his enthusiasm for history. He cares about his students and is always willing to help. He tends to get a little sidetracked, but he's always very clear about what you need to know for the tests. If you follow the study guides and pay attention during lecture, you're sure to do well!
TAKE HIST 202 FROM DR. WARD! He's the best professor I've had at BYU. He doesn't have TA's because he wants to be there for his students. He's super accessible outside of class and ENCOURAGES you to come to him for help. He offers clear study guides for his exams that cover everything you need to know. His class is a very easy A with no busy work!
Professor Ward cares about his students and wants them to succeed. As long as you go to class and take notes, you should be fine. There is a study guide for the tests and not a lot of busy work. I didn't really read the textbook, but it would be helpful, especially if you struggle with history.
Professor Ward is so kind and wants to help students do well in the class. He gives out extra credit and offers test reviews that are helpful! Overall an awesome Professor and tried to keep class entertaining went it felt long and boring.
Lectures pretty much required for getting high grade. Tests entirely based on lecture material, if you take really good notes textbook isn't required. 72% grade was exams, which were tough and graded on subtle lecture material. 1 project: Read 300 pages of a book and write a report, you must actually read the book. Extra credit offered if youattend
Really awesome professor. My only complaint was how long the class was and sometimes the lectures were pretty dry, but he did a good job of making class interesting. I wish there was some more class participation, but he loves what he teaches.
Prof War is great. Really friendly helpful guy. I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. I appreciated all of his travel stories, etc. Recommend.
Dr. Ward is a really nice guy, and is really passionate about the material. Grade is pretty much just based on exams and a final paper, so if you don't do well on the first exam like I did then you're kinda boned. Lectures were kinda long and hard to get through sometimes. Textbook reading was required. Sometimes tested on silly things.
I loved Professor Ward! He was so nice and caring and you could tell her really had a passion for his work and teaching!
Doctor Ward is my favorite professor from BYU. He actually cares about the students! His lecture style is engaging if you are attentive and his tests (while not 'easy') are doable if you pay attention and attend reviews/ask follow up questions. I'm not the greatest at history nor do I really like it, but he made attending class a joy!
Dr. Ward is really caring with a huge heart but his lectures were so hard to get through. I'm not the type to fall asleep in class but sometimes I couldn't help it in this one. It requires a lot of effort to pay attention and get all the details for the exams, which btw are lecture-heavy. Exams are doable but are worth most of your grade (like 80%)
This class wasn't very hard, but the professor kept making not-funny dad jokes that made me lose attention. Attendance wasn't taken, and as long as you study with the study guide he provides, you can get an A. For assignments, there are some map quizzes, a couple of writing assignments, two midterms, and a final.
I took Prof Ward for Spring Term and so we had two hour lectures three times a week, this seemed really intense going in but Prof Ward kept the lectures engaging. He is very passionate about the material and while 72% of the grade is based on midterms and final he gives lots of opportunity for extra credit and tells you what will be on the tests.
Great professor! Never did any reading, still did really well in the class. Lots of extra credit available too.
Great teacher. Read a chapter a week and clearly points out what is on the test. Tests not too hard. Fun guy.
The most uninspiring teacher I've ever had. Horrible jokes & off topic lectures on random people in history who really don't matter much. None of the test reviews, lectures or textbook terms match up on the tests. Super unclear what to study for tests, which are worth more of your grade than they should. Do yourself a favor get other professor.
overall an easy class w just map quizzes, two tiny write-ups, one paper on a memoir, & three tests. I gave up trying to follow his lectures which are super confusing & unorganized, but using his study guides with the textbook & google worked just fine. His slides are 95% pictures & videos so if you're a visual learner you'll love it lol
As someone who isn't the best at history, I would recommend Dr. Ward. Go to lectures, go to the reviews. Tests are a big portion of your grade but he bases them strictly off of what you talk about in class and and the reviews. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Always willing to help outside of class. You'll have to put in work but it's manageable
Professor Ward is the best and I would recommend his classes to everyone! He truly cares about his students and wants each of them to succeed. If you go to the lectures and take notes using the study guide, you are going to do just fine. His lectures are very interesting and he is a super funny guy!
good class just not my forte, dr. ward is very enthusiastic about history but lectures can be very dull. As long as you read the textbook you'll be fine on the tests. One big 6 page paper due at end of semester about a memoir which was actually a cool assignment. requires a lot of studying before the exams!
He is a really nice man but the lectures feel like tangents about who knows what. He does provide extra credit for tests but the tests can be really random with the questions. Pretty much if you just wanna coast in class and not really understand the lectures this is the class.
Very knowledgable, focuses mainly on textbook info, but diverges depending on if he's travelled to a place recently (we got a lot of India, Thailand, and Australia). His lectures are useful, but lethargic. I had a really hard time feeling engaged, because of his lethargic pace and disorderly PowerPoints. Not bad by any means, but not amazing.
Professor Ward was absolutely incredible! I love him and his class. He sang to us and did so many fun things for us. I took his UNIV in the summer which was difficult. He made sure to make accomodations for us so that we were able to get our assignments completed.
Dr. Ward is very caring and accommodates to needs. He understands the busy college life and helps work with you. I took his UNIV 101 class, and he was so kind and got to know each of us individually. However, I did feel like I was in a middle school class instead of a college one. I felt like I was seen as so young.
The class was pointless but Dr. Ward did a good job of making accommodations for everyone and taking the time to get to know everyone. He is super chill and its honestly hard not to pass the class with him.
He has his history 202 class organized well, but I personally didn't like his lecture style. The information is there, but I feel like he wastes a lot of time not talking about the information. He is aware, however, that most students take the class for GE and so he mostly teaches for the tests.
I liked him a lot and he was really funny. I didn't love the class however. There was only a handful of things we were graded on so if you do bad on one, its tough to make it up. The tests in this class are worth like 70% of the class and then there is one paper that is 20%.
Professor Ward was super awesome, however this class is primarily exam heavy. There are a few papers and a few other easy assignments throughout the semester, but the exams weigh like 70%. I never went to lecture and still did well.
dr. ward wants you to succeed.
Great lectures but not very helpful for tests, focus on the textbook and study lots to do well. Fav Quotes: I have intellectual freedom Wow this is grizzly He was neither blood thristy nor a bafoon. It's actually laugh out loud funny I know people with 3.0 average and they haven't died. There's no fee on the exam but i'll send out my venmo No cap
love prof Ward! he has such a passion for history and is such a funny guy! if you go to lecture, you should do perfectly fine in this class. tests were multiple choice, matching, and brief short answer questions (the easiest of which are of content from the lectures). the TA reviews were so helpful, so don't miss those!
Professor Ward is the nicest and funniest professor at BYU. His grading is fair, he is very accommodating, and his study guides are a reflection of the test. If you want to laugh every day and love your life take Prof Ward's class!!!
Loved Dr. Ward! An incredible professor that cares a lot about you as a person. Would definitely recommend taking univ 101 from him.
I never went to class and never read the textbook. Just put the (extremely good and comprehensive) study guide + the textbook into Chat and studied what it gave me for 4-5 hours the day before the test, and I got A's. He gives you the essay questions. He also dropped the final (unless you wanted to take it). 10/10
Dr. Ward is the most humble and supportive professor I have had in my time at BYU. He will make you laugh every day even if history is not your favorite subject. Not a better one to take your CIV credits from.
I love Dr. Ward!!! He is AMAZING! He is so kind, gives extra credit a lot for just showing up to class. He does little music performances for us on Wednesdays. Textbook is not needed. I never read it and get a's. he tells us short question test answers
Professor Ward is great. Very in tune with teenage slang. Professor Ward was so helpful and took time to meet his students and help them succeed. He was very kind and an engaging teacher. His TA is also amazing, and he truly doesn't want his class to be hard. Minimal homework, 3 tests. Don't expect an easy A however, you have to work for it.
Dr. Ward was an awesome History professor! He teaches clearly and even gives out extra credit for attendance. His test will account for most of your grade, but the study guides tell you exactly what you need to know. If you enjoy history, it will be a fun and easy class. If not, you'll have to study hard to get good grades on the test.
You'll find few professors better than Evan Ward! He cares about his students, he's funny, and he gives you the greatest possible chance for success! Take as many classes as you're able to from him!
