Professor Wood is awesome. Content is super well explained and always provides a clear idea of what will be quizzed and tested. Extra credit problems always given and many quizzes count for extra credit too. Wants people to do well. Really really awkwardly funny, he warms up after a few weeks. Lets class out early all the time.
he is a good guy. at SHU math 101 seemed to be a struggle for a lot of kids. He wants to help you do well though. He is overall a nice guy. I wouldn't take the class again because I didnt do so well. Moves at a slow pace. only 4 quizzes and two tests and then a final. quizzes super easy, tests just review all the handouts and you will be fine.
Wood is knowledgable and presents the material better than you might initially think that he would. The first couple of weeks, we all thought that he was odd, but once he gets to know the class, he settles in and becomes actually really funny and cool. Not the easiest class, but definitely not the hardest. He's good.
He's a funny guy that gives minimal homework, wants everyone to do well, and gives great study sheets out before tests. Take his class!
Great guy. Really interesting and passionate teacher. I would highly recommend. He's a little awkward at first but he becomes super comfortable later on in the semester. Tests are exactly the review sheet. He lets you out of class early, take him if you can!!
For a lacking math department Wood is great. Ends class early and material is basic. Gives homework and occasional quizzes. Tests are fair, you should study, he gives review sheets for each test. Great guy overall and would take him again.
I think that Professor Wood's class was one of the most straight forward classes I've taken so far at Fordham. He is a bit awkward, but you kinda get used to it. It does take a while for him to start the class, he makes it his goal to end class as early as possible. He is a great math professor and I would definitely take his class again.
Although Professor Wood seems kind of awkward the first couple of days he's actually really chill and hilarious without knowing it. He really wants you to understand the concept of math not just memorizing the formulas. Offered to help a student get a concept even if everyone else already got it. Only two midterms and final so make sure you know it
Take Professor Wood. He is able to simplify the material in a way that makes even the most complex problems seem straightforward and easy. He lets you out early almost every class so pay attention while you are there. He will occasionally give homework and quizzes but they are just there to help you review for tests. He's also hilarious.
He is so unbelievable hard. I have no idea what the other students were saying!!! After reading his reviews I thought his class was going to be great, but it is unbearable. I'm a strong math students and I can barely pass his class! I do not recommend this professor unless you want your GPA to suffer!!!
He's chill and a good guy. He doesn't explain things very well and assumes everyone knows what he's saying. A little odd, but I liked him as a person. Hated his teaching methods and lack of caring. You'll probably do well if you're already good at math. If you suck I'd opt for someone else. I suck at math and got a C+
Literally the easiest teacher ever. Don't even write notes and still got a 97 on the midterm. Ends every class early too
He is a sweet person and an easy teacher. He gives take-home quizzes and extra credit questions for you to hand in by the end of the class. He gives only one midterm and the final. Whenever he asks for homework, it is graded. He is usually late for his first class of the day and he ends class early very often. Overall, he is an easy teacher.
Explains simple math in theoretical terms to confuse a class full of non-math minded students. Scatter brained. Does example problems on the board for those who need them.
Professor Wood was super straightforward. You always knew exactly what would be on each test, he wasn't trying to trick you. The class can be a little dull, but he is such a nice and funny person, that I enjoyed it anyways. In his Math Modeling class there were very few homeworks, a couple easy tests, and that's really it.
For us he drops the lowest homework grade and gave a couple extra credit questions.
I had to take this class for credit and I am terrible at math but professor wood's class was completely manageable if you are willing to put in some effort. He is not tough on grading, due dates, or attendance and is a little all over the place with his notes and lectures so just make sure you pay attention. I would definitely recommend his class.
Professor Wood is a decent professor. He often ends class early, and he gives lectures for the bulk of the class. The work isn't awful, and I liked that he made himself accessible outside class. He warms up to you (he's a bit awkward) and is quite nice when you ask for help. Considering the other options, Evan Wood was the best choice for me.
Professor Wood is an easy A. I took this class to fulfill my math req and as long as you do the work he assigns you will be just fine.
He's a good guy who really helps you out! I was worried at the start but got an A. Gives extra credit, help with homework and graded take home assignments, dropped lowest quiz grade. Half the final was take home and he's so available for help! Lectures can be confusing but all graded material is straightforward. lets class out early often. TAKE HIM
By far my favorite prof. nothing to really say except he really just wants you to do well and will go to any length to make sure you get a good grade even if you're not good at math. go to his office hours and you'll learn the material. just a lot of take home quizzes and funny classes where he let out early. easy A and funny guy.
One of the best professors I've had. Take him if you want an easy A in Finite Math. He is unintentionally hilarious, and is very helpful. He drops the lowest quiz grade and half of the final was take home. He also often ends class early. Definitely one of the most chill classes I've taken
I was really expecting so much better from all the comments. He speaks way too fast so you get lost every time youre in class. Every time I leave class I feel like I unerstand the material, but when you do the work in the textbook it seems like totally different problems.
Hes too smart to teach. He doesnt understand why people wouldnt automatically understand the material. He also failed to teach us an equation that would significantly cut down the amount of work we have to do to when solving for the inverse of a matrix. He mumbles to himself while teaching and doesnt look students in the eyes. Not a lot of hw.
For someone who's not good at math, this class is manageable. Professor Wood is very nice and understanding, and will let you make up tests/quizzes during his office hours. The class is mainly lectures, and he ends class early nearly every day. Most tests and quizzes have take home portions. I'd recommend this class for sure!
take him. although you might end up teaching yourself a lot of the material and having to go to the office hours, his quizzes are either take home or open book, and he drops the lowest quiz grade. the midterm was half take home half in class, and the final is the same. not homework heavy at all and gives you ample time to do it.
A must take for Finite!! He's very socially awkward which is unintentionally funny. He lectures a lot, but spends a couple of days on a concept and explains it thoroughly. Take-Home quizzes, some homework, a midterm (which is 1/3 take home) and a final is what your grade is out of. If you ask, he'll help you get the answers to hw and quizzes. TAKE!
He shows up late sometimes and ends early most days!
Evan Wood's class is entertaining if nothing else. His lectures aren't particularly engaging but he's a really nice guy with frequent office hours, & he wants to see his students do well. Class usually gets out early & only one in-class quiz. Both the final and midterm had take-home components. Material is kinda abstract but overall painless class
Took Prof Wood for Finite and as someone who hates math, it was not difficult. Along with class often starting 10 mins late & finishing 10 mins early, Prof Wood does not take attendance and is very helpful during office hours. Many of the tests and quizzes are take home.
If you are not good at math, do not take Prof. Wood. He is a math genius so he goes through things fast w little explanation. If you are good at math he is your best bet. Ends class early. Gives plenty of take-home assignments. Practice tests are exactly like the real ones. No textbook necessary. He is really funny and a good choice.
Professor Wood is one of that crazy math genius-types who thinks everyone is running in tune with his brain waves. When he lectures, he rarely stops for questions and generally is not supportive of students not understanding what he teaches. That being said, there are plenty of take-home quizzes and homework that you can score highly in. Good luck.
Best Professor for finite for non-STEM majors. The kindest, funniest, most helpful Professor. Class often ends early, drops the lowest grades per category (HW, quiz, etc.) If youre willing to put in the work outside of class and go to office hours you are guaranteed an A.
A great human being who really knows his stuff. FANTASTIC DUDE
Took as an online on-campus student. Worst professor of the semester. His lectures aren't mandatory, and your "group" only meets once a week. But, after the first few weeks, if you're one of four students that actually attends, you quickly won't be. He teaches his hour-long lectures like he's being paid $1 an hour. I've never heard anyone so bored.
He's kinda boring and we only met once a week but the material is easy and it's not a lot of work at all. Attendance was optional and if you didn't show up, the material was pretty easy to teach yourself from the textbook. Helpful in office hours and likes when people ask questions.
Professor Wood was just kind of a weird guy. The only reason I passed his class was because my roommate was in it, had taken calc in high school, and knew what she was doing. We often described his class as "teaching a math class like it was an English class." He spent a lot more time on the why of calc than how to do it.
This class was... fine. Lectures are pretty boring but get the job done. I took calc in high school and had an amazing teacher then, so this class was fairly easy. Pretty sure the same goes for people who haven't taken calc yet. Most of the quizzes are take-home and tests are pretty easy. Material is very accessible outside of class though.
Professor Wood was not a good teacher. I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt since this semester was online, but he explained easy concepts in such confusing ways that idk how much better it would've been in person. His teaching style is so confusing- if I hadn't taken AP Stats in high school I would've been very lost. Wouldn't recommend.
He assigns lots of work and he can be very difficult to follow sometimes. I'm sure his teaching style may be different in person, but it was not the best over Zoom. Other than that, Prof. Wood is helpful and quick to respond to emails with any questions that you may have.
Amazing teacher and person, always available to help. From someone who sucks at math, highly recommend taking.
Professor Wood is honestly a really nice person, but he just is very boring. Not only is he boring, but our exams are entirely different from the questions he introduces to us in class and the ones he gives us as practice exam problems. We were all surprised with the questions that would come up the day of the exam.
Pretty laid back and willing to accommodate students. Clear-cut teacher who gives us time to answer problems on our own before he gives us the answer. Tests arent too bad. A solid choice
Evan Wood has a good base knowledge of math and is very willing to help. Unfortunately, he would explain simple concepts in a complex way. Evan would often explain every aspect of each concept to the point where student would start to overthink their ideas.
Professor Wood is boring. If you are not naturally good at math you will need to work pretty hard in his class. However, he does let out class 10-15 mins early every day and he let us retake our lowest midterm grade and receive full credit back. Tests were decently challenging and homework is always graded for accuracy. He is nice and sweet tho.
Listen, the man is a super sweet guy, really nice. My class was very small so we got to talk to him a lot, joke around. But his teaching is so uninteresting and boring, super hard to follow. His lectures feel like reviews of something we should already know, and even if you ask his explanations confuse me more. He is very flexible with HW tho.
Prof Wood is not the best at actually explaining concepts but he is understanding about deadlines and he gives extension if you ask. Theres 2 midterms and he allows you to retake one for a better grade. Gives a lot of HW but its a department thing not his fault. Just do all Hws and watch lecture vids and you'll do fine.
Very very nice guy. Graded on two midterms (25%) and a final (35%). There is some homework but it's only worth like 10%. Everyone is saying he is boring but I've never found a math class to be particularly riveting. Class is not that difficult, I've never taken a liking to math and I managed to do fine without much studying.
The class itself is boring and the teaching does not make much sense. Use the textbook and videos to study and ask specific questions during office hours to help relieve any doubts. The course is exam heavy so make sure to do well on the midterms and the final (which are worth 80%). The professor is sweet and truly wants his students to do well!
Professor Wood was okay. His lectures were really hard to understand and the explanations of equations were way longer than necessary for a basic math class. It was hard to pay attention because so much of the information wasnt relevant to the questions we had to solve for tests and hw. I wouldnt recommend his class.
Evan Wood is a very good man. His lectures are very boring and you will likely need to teach yourself the material. You really don't need to show up at all because he will never take attendance and you will end up teaching yourself the material anyway. Tests are hard, but if you do your work, you should do decent in the class.
Some people find Professor Wood boring but I think that's just the subject. I find that he's generally very laid back and helpful. If you need extra time on homework he'll give you an extension and the material he covers he tries to spend a lot of time going over. I really don't understand why people feel the way they do about him.
Prof. Wood is extremely unenthusiastic. It is hard to pay attention during lectures because he seems so bored. The classes themselves are at times unbearable, but it's an easy course. 2 midterms and a final, you can make up either midterm. He is flexible with grades and willing to go over pretty much anything.
Prof. Wood is clearly a very nice guy who knows a lot about math. Though oftentimes lectures are confusing and he overcomplicates simple concepts. As a result a lot of people in the class struggled with material and resorted to the just reading the textbook.
Mr. Wood is a really nice guy. He cares about his students and wants all of them to do well. Take him if you can.
Professor Wood was a good professor. As long as you pay attention in class you can do very well. There are two midterms and a final with a few take-home quizzes and written homeworks. He provides many extra credit opportunities that can really help boost your grade. I would highly recommend this class.
Online homework and written that are pretty much for completion. 2 midterms and a final that are all easy enough. He adds lots of extra credit and is a funny guy. Lectures aren't that entertaining and he overcomplicates things but its still not to bad. He wants you to do well
I loved professor Wood. He is a great person and I think he has a lot of care for his students. However, i am not a math person and i have never really once understood any of his lectures ever. Only reason i passed was because of the extra credit he offered. I give him a 10/10 as a person and a 3/10 in comprehension for the material LOL. Ily wood!
He was extremely understanding of my accommodations and even asked if I needed any other accommodations for his class that weren't officially granted by the university. He posts the notes to the lectures online so as long as you do the homework you are golden.
He isn't the best teacher, but if you have taken calc before take this class. The tests are simple and he also hands out a lot of extra credit.
EASIEST math class you can take at Fordham. 3 exams with 5pts of extra credit. the written hw and studyguides are basically what the test is. If you're not sitting in the the front row you cant hear him but you can lowkey teach yourself, but if you pay attention some of the problems he does on the board are the same on the test.
This man is an angel. He will give you extra time on every assignment, and lets you have formula sheets on the exam. He also has impeccable style. And he wants everyone to pass and super available.
great professor, assigns plenty of extra credit and the tests are pretty much the same as the hw or problems he covers in class, very easy math class.
As long as you pay attention, it is hard to fail. Professor Wood is very funny and very direct. When you make a mistake he lets you know.
Finite is super easy with Evan; the class is mostly algebra and probability. Professor Wood gave out so much extra credit, and assignments were through Pearson (online) with as many attempts on questions as needed plus 3 or 4 fairly easy written homework. 2 midterm exams, fairly easy, and a cumulative final. Take this prof for an easy A.
Such an understanding and kind man! He gives a lot of extra credit and is extremely reasonable. 2 midterms that were relatively easy and one final. Go to his office hours and he will guide you through the hw/graded assignments. Exams are all based on the homework, review, and extra credit. Easy class but I learned a lot!
if you need clear step by step explanations, dont take him. clearly very smart but assumes we are so cant/doesnt explain. very lenient and nice, but cant really help, if you took ap stat you should be fine. online homework different than what he teaches, but unlimited attempts. offers extra credit, you will alternate between hating and loving him
Professor Wood was really solid. If you are taking him make sure you learn to decipher what really matters in the lectures versus what is gibberish. He gives extra credit for the midterms and final and replaces the lowest midterm with final exam grade if it's higher. Very nice guy who is flexible.
Professor Wood is super kind and provides many resources to help you succeed in the class. While the content can be difficult, he thoroughly covers everything to ensure that you have lots of experience with the material. Super cool guy, and genuinely wants his students to do well. Drilling notes and practicing with the homework worked best for me.
This guy is honestly one of the nicest people I've met, he wants his students to pass. He reopens assignments, is very flexible, and really does care. However, he seems a little too smart for his own good, sometimes he would breeze by topics because HE understands them, while his class sits there bewildered. You can teach it to yourself though.
I really struggle with math, so the lecture-style class was not great for me. That being said, he is a relatively easy grader and gives extra credit often, so even though the content is difficult, he really wants you to pass his class. He is a very nice man, I just don't think his teaching style works for me.
I struggle with math, so the lecture style was not very beneficial (why I gave a 3/5), but I am glad I had Prof. Wood. He is a very understanding professor, and I had no problem retaking a missed test. Pearson MyLab is required, and there are a few written homework. Those who are interested in math or who are good at math will love Prof. Wood
Mr. Wood tough as if the whole class had the same understanding as him. Very fast, didn't really answer students' questions. Besides being lost most of class, attendance wasn't mandatory, lots of extra credit and reviews before test were very similar to the actual tests.
Prof Wood really wants us to succeed and is helpful outside of class. But he goes really fast in lectures, so fast he often doesn't notice students raised hands. He gave extra credit for every test which was helpful. But it's really hard to keep up with his lectures as he goes so fast, I think he forgets this is new to us. Great guy though.
He assumes we know what he's talking about and flies through the lecture leaving the students in shock lol. Besides that he's so sweet and understanding and gives sooo many extra credit opportunities. With the help of a tutor you can honestly teach yourself the material and go to his office hours for extra help. Could be better, could be worse.
His class was easy but you have to put in the work for it. Attendance is not mandatory but I would not recommend skipping because he teaches really fast. He speaks pretty low so make sure you sit in the front. The exams are similar to the review and the quizzes are easy. He also gives extra credit
Prof Wood is very kind however his teaching format makes it hard to do well. He does not explain the concepts just does them on the board. He compensates this with extra credit, but most of the material has to be taught by yourself. Don't take him if you can't understand math quickly. Written homeworks/quizzes help to raise your grade also.
lectures were so boring but he was a fairly good professor. i already took calc so i did have a lot of background knowledge which helped though. 2 midterms, cumulative final, online and written homework, and quizzes but he gave out a lot of practice and extra credit questions.
boring lectures and the material was pretty hard. attendance is not mandatory. final was hard but he is pretty good if you go to office hours. not bad teacher but be prepared to do a lot of teaching yourself outside of class
He is a really nice and chill guy, and understanding about late HW and if you have to move a test date. I took calc before, so for a review, he was a good professor. However, sometimes he is not very clear when teaching, so I would maybe look for someone else if this is your first time taking calc.
Professor Wood is an amazing professor. The rating seems bad because, at times, he speaks fast, but he is extremely nice, and you will be guaranteed an excellent grade because of all the extra credit he offers. I would definitely take him again!
- He's very chill. - He lets you leave early - He gives you homework that is due next week friday - All of his midterms and quizzes are basically easy - He has a soft voice so don't sit in the back of the class
Not good at teaching and soft-spoken, I have to learn the concepts myself but he gives lots of extra credit. The exams and quizzes were easy and lowest quiz grade dropped. He also dismisses the class early a lot.
Professor Wood is one of the easiest professors I've ever had. While he may be smart, you don't need to pay attention because he posts all of his notes on Blackboard after the class is over.
He's not good at teaching but gives many extra credits, and exams and quizzes are easy. He ends the class earlier, 90% of the time, and attendance is not mandatory. If you are a self learner this is the perfect class
Attendance is sign in sheet so basically optional. Lectures are boring and not great. Does problems on the board without rlly explaining. Definitely have to teach yourself material. Office hours are kinda helpful. quizzes are easy, lit the same as the review sheet. lots of extra credit but lowk doesn't help bc quizzes are weighted so little.
In lectures he's very quiet and basically looks like He teaches himself but if you study outside of class you'll do fine
Professor Wood is a nice guy, however his teaching was just impractical. He is quiet, does not explain much beyond the example problems he has, and has some challenging test questions. He has a fair grading policy, with some extra credit, but this didn't help me in the long run. I am not great at math and his inability to lecture didn't help.
Wood is really sweet. He gives so many extra credit opportunities and his tests have a similar format to the practices and written homework. He can be awkward and his explanations for things weren't great (i.e "why does that work?" "i mean it's the only thing that makes sense"). Homework was harder than quizzes and tests. Class is lowk hard tho.
Not too difficult, leaves the class during exams sometimes. He's a strangish guy but genuinely nice and wants to see you succeed. Doing the bare minimum will get you an A/A- and he gives a lot of EC.
He upload the note of every sessions and answers of exams and it's really helpful for me to review. A lot of extra credit that he allows us to do in group in class. Super chill guy
Professor Wood's class is not hard at all, yet he is not the best teacher, to say the least. He speaks very low so it can be hard to understand him. He gives a good amount of extra credit and you can convince him to add some on a quiz.
Super chill and understanding. Easy A
He's such a caring professor! He will give you lots of opportunities to do well in his class with extra credit, and sometimes let you re-take quizzes you did badly on. A lot of his exam questions look a lot like the ones done in classes, hw and extra credit.
He's vice but he's an okay teacher. Going to office hours does help but you will probably have to study by yourself.
Hot take but I really enjoyed Prof. Wood! He's so chill, attendance isn't mandatory and he is very understanding about assignments and quizzes. Everything but some homework is on paper but he's a super chill guy and tries his best to help everyone out. Not very engaging but chill if you have a good grasp on math and want an easy class.
Prof. Wood is a great person, however his class was exceptionally difficult. He doesn't engage with the class, he solves the problems and that's it. Not going into depth. There was a lot of homework but there was a lot of time to complete. Great person, but his teaching style is difficult to follow. Would only recommend if you're great at math.
There's a lot of homework and no engagment with the class, only solves the problems himslef and expects us to learn them!
VERY HARD TO LEARN ANYTHING IN CLASS!
Talks to the board or the ceiling, not the class. Not deep explanation during lectures, assumes everyone knows exactly how to do problems. Online homework is pretty simple and is easy points.
Overall class was not very challenging, however, Prof Wood is not the best teacher. He goes through problems on the board very quickly and expects everyone knows what he is talking about. Talks very quietly and chuckles to himself about how self explanatory everything is????
I took Professor Wood for Math for Business: Calculus, and I didn't understand anything taught in class. He mumbles all the words and solves the questions on the board without any class participation. I had to self learn the whole syllabus and there's lots of homework EVERY class! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Prof Wood is a good person, just a bad teacher. He solves problems on the board without explaining anything. You have to go to office hours to get any explanations/ actual help.
Very quiet and often makes mistakes while writing on the board, and goes back to change it. 3 exams, 20% - 25% - & 30%. 3-4 written homework, lots of online homework (not posted on Blackboard). Doesn't go in depth about anything. Not the worst professor, so if you can't get one of the top professors take him, but try to avoid him.
He's just meh
He's a sweet guy, but wow, he has zerooo idea how to teach. He missed two weeks right after our first midterm and then proceeded to return and give us three tests, one of which was the week of our second midterm...His tests are super easy, though. Anyway, for your sake, DO NOT take him!!!
Professor Wood is very knowledgeable about the course content and is always willing to explain things again if you need some help with anything in the class.
Evan Wood is amazing. He clearly outlines the expectations and is laid-back. His lessons are straightforward and concise. If you need additional help you can attend office hours, or stay after class. He offers a lot of extra credit and is respectful and kind to his students. He respects your time and if you put in the effort, it's easy to succeed.
Genuinely awful. He doesn't explain how to do the problems. he will take off points from correct answers and wont explain why. theres a good chance the questions you will see on the tests will be stuff you didn't cover. avoid him if at all possible
Bottom three professor of all time. He doesn't know how to teach and missed school for three weeks. He gave us a final with questions that we were never taught how to do. If you struggle with math avoid him at ALL COSTS!!!!
Evan Wood is truly the worst professor I've encountered at Fordham. He is knowledgeable about the math he teaches but has absolutely no idea how to interact with humans in a way that would be beneficial. He was absent for two entire weeks with no sub and returned and acted like nothing happened and moved on to a new topic. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
He's such an awkward professor and he does not know how to interact with students.
He is not a great lecturer but if you go to office hours, he can be helpful. The first unit is easy, second is oddly confusing, third is straightforward. If you ask for help and go to the review sessions, he can be somewhat helpful. Just study outside of class and get extra help and you'll be fine.
I found myself having to teach myself the entire class materials for the whole semester. His lectures are way too fast, do not engage with class, and hard to follow what is going on. His lectures are somewhat helpful, but you will have to learn on your own. He is always willing to answer questions you have, but doesn't make up for bad lectures.
