Her teaching style is very helpful. She gives you an outline for each speech and all you do is follow it. It's hard not to do well in her class. Also, there are a few class activities and don't bother buying the book.

Evangeline was meant to be a Speech teacher. She creates an environment where even the most shy are gradually more and more comfortable speaking in public.

Ms. East is so sweet and approachable. The class is easy if you get over your fear of talking in front of people, which you will with all the activities you will do in class. NO papers due, just speeches all the time. Dont buy the book, you will never use it.

Extremely nice teacher! She made it clear from the first day that she knew most of us were probably scared to speak publically but she would help us get over our fear. At first we just did tiny speeches at our desks & then worked our way up to the big ones. She grades pretty easily, as long as the content of your speech is complete. TAKE HER!!!

Mrs. East is a very nice teacher, and very clear and easy on what she wants and how she grades. I HATED giving speeches, but between her and all of my classmates, I had a fun time giving speeches at the end. She does cancel a lot of classes though, but none the less, a great teacher! I will miss her class!

OMG! Take Speech 001 with Mrs. East! She is the easiest Speech professor in the world!!! There are 2 major speeches that she grades by a rubric; the rest of the minor speeches are "do it and get the points." Basically, you're guaranteed an A. Just show up everyday and make sure your cell phone is off, or she will go off on you. She's against cells.

Prof. East is a really good teacher. She made this class fun. Her pet peeve is cell phones, if she sees them you loose points other than that, come to class do the two major speeches and you are guaranteed to pass. If you call her "Angel" she likes you even more! Book is used only once on a group project.

Very nice professor; For the most of the class we talked. Grading was "based" on a final group presentation, one movie review, some short journals (points for doing it, not content), and attendance (checked most of the time). Very laid back class but you do learn a lot about interpersonal communication.

Fun and easy class. You get full credit for the majority of speeches just for doing them. There are 2 major speeches (informative and persuasive) that have a rubric and grading scale. No tests or quizzes. A few group projects. You get to know everyone in class on the first day so you don't feel uncomfortable. Highly recommended!

This teacher is awesome, she's super nice, and a little odd but she makes the class interesting. She's really understanding of students being completely nervous about standing in front of random people. Definitely dont buy the book, you'll only use it for one project at the end of the semester.

Don't get the text. A very easy and nice teacher. It might feel as though you have too many speeches to work on at once, but take it one speech at a time. Grades only on speech and to get an A, just follow the rubric and make sure to remember that while giving the speech. Has extra credit in case you miss some points. JUST TAKE HER!!! She is clear and straight to the point. Relatively an easy grader. No tests or quizzes, just speeches. She is a mama bear figure and loves all her students. Her biggest thing is making sure even the shy people don't feel super nervous about public speaking. However, don't buy to book. I did and i never once opened it.

If you wanna actually learn how to do public speaking find another teacher. public speaking is more of a individual effort and in this class all you do is group work. She doesn't give good feedback cause all she does is give A's. i took partly for an easy A, but also so i could learn something.

Whenever a new speech is assigned she goes over the criteria in class and provides the rubric ahead of time so you'll know what she's expecting of you. Comm001 is speech so most of the class is listening to speech if you take only 50 min class each day, sometimes your turn will not even be called because 50 min. is too short to finish all the student speech.

She is very straight forward with what she expects from students. Don't get creative with the speech structures. Follow her structures, outlines and requirements, show up for class on your speech day, turn off your cell phone and you will earn an A. No curve balls. PLUS two huge extra credit opportunities can make up for a failing midterm grade

Professor East was the best professor I've had a Solano. Mrs. East is so thorough , clear, helpful, sweet, kind and understanding. I received an A in this class but you must do the work , showing up alone won't get you anywhere. However, this class was so easy only because the professor completely knows her job. Professor East is bar far one of the best Comm teachers at SCC. Very easy to pass with a good grade as long as you show up and keep your cell phone out of sight. Make sure to follow the outline structure for speeches and don't go under/over time. If you take prof East, you won't regret it! Good luck!

Two main things: don't be on your phone & don't walk in/knock on the door while someone is giving a speech. Show up on speech days. Don't buy the book, BORROW IT. She really does try and make this class comfortable and easy to speak to. Easy A because she says EXACTLY what to do in criteria sheets for speeches.

There's only two major speeches(4.5-7.5mins), and a couple easy speeches(free points, 1-2 mins). Poff makes you do a 15min speech! Take the 8 week course!!!! Easiest 8 week course I've ever taken. I'm a really shy person too and it was so much easier than I thought. She isn't a critical grader too, and doesn't judge you while you talk.

I took the 8 week class and it was fun and simple. There are only 2 "big" speeches which she provides you very clear guidelines for! I loved the class. The first week she has you really get to know your classmates, which makes it a whole lot easier to present in front of them! She is strict on time limits and tough with her NO PHONEs policy!

This Professor is awesome. She has such a positive attitude and you can tell that she does this because she loves this. You will pass this class if you show up, follow directions, do your homework and give your best. I would absolutely take her again if I ever need another COMM course .

Mrs. East is a sweet lady. She gives group work and small homework assignments. The most you'll do is write a paper on a movie you watch in class. Read one chapter wk and write 1 page on it. Be sure to be on time and keep phone away. She likes when people interact with her in class. She will work with you if you need extra credit or time off.

Awesome professor, she has no problem sharing experiences with her class in order to get topics to stick. We watched the breakfast club and Inside Out which was awesome. She's really laid back and understanding about assignments. Lot's of group talk and 1 speech. No tests or quizzes and the final was a project of your choice. HIGHLY recommend East!

Professor East is a great professor I took her interpersonal comm class and her assignments were fun to where you learn a lot about yourself and others. Shes very caring to every student who shows her respect however she does get upset a lot when youre on your phone even for less than a minute. Other than that shes definitely worth taking.

This is a MUST have professor for COMMS 010. Outstanding professor she will forever be. She is super flexible and will forever be one of my best college professors. She is super flexible on homework! Take her, I promise, you wont't regret it. SUPER FUN!

She understands that not everyone is comfortable and confident with public speaking so she grades you based off of your own skill. She doesn't have the same standard of speaking for everyone which I think is fair because it makes the class less stressful for super shy students who hate public speaking. Also, never use your phone in class!

Never read the book, you have 5-7 speeches I believe and the first 2 dont need research because they are about your name and your birthday. Your audience can be in person or through FaceTime. THIS CLASS IS SUPER EASY, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TAKING THE FULL TERM!

My most dreaded class proved to be so much fun. Prof. East walks us through how to carry out a speech and is forgiving if you stumble on words or make a couple of pauses within your speech.

Very easygoing professor. I enjoyed how nice she was and how understanding she was. I was so worried about this class, but I am now a more proficient speaker and have overcome many fears. The professor wants her students to succeed, which shows in her lectures and modules.

I am currently taking this class at the moment and she is AMAZING. Your grade is heavily dependent on your attendance so DON'T MISS CLASS. She really makes public speaking really easy and she is not a harsh grader at all. Just take notes during her lectures and FOLLOW HER OUTLINES and you'll fly by just fine.

This class is an amazing class to take if you are in need of credits or if you want to get rid of that fear of public speaking. I had this professor for Intro to Public Speaking. Her class was so much fun, but it was really stressful. I would recommend taking the 8-week class if possible. You give lots of speeches and it's just a very comforting environment. She gets really upset if you use your phone in class or interrupt someone's speech, so be mindful.

Wants you to succeed and always gives feedback. Attendance and being a good listener/member of the audience(no phones) are important to Professor East. Makes the class feel comfortable and get to know each other a bit before presenting. My only complaint is the way she uses Canvas is different than my other professors, and can be tricky.

She is very passionate about public speaking, so be respectful. As long as you follow her outlines and make the time limits for the two major speeches, you'll do just fine. Be a good audience member (she HATES phones). But she is pretty understanding. I will say, the way she structures her canvas is very confusing so dont expect to use it much.

The class was so fun, wish it was longer. Speeches were easy as you get to choose the topics which made it enjoyable. Great tips, room for extra credit. Participation helps and attending class.

I really enjoyed this class. From day 1, her syllabus & expectations were really clear. There were opportunities for extra credit. While the workload was manageable, slackers shouldn't expect to skate by. She set up multiple time slots for zoom meetings if we had questions or needed more help. It's really obvious she cares about her students.

I am very introverted but she is a very good teacher to build your confidence. She makes the classroom environment suitable for learning and improvement. Just beware you're likely gonna have classmates from all life backgrounds. There will be difficult classmates regardless which professor you choose. Just focus on yourself and the learning.

Evangeline was AMAZING! Super nervous to take this course but she made me feel comfortable & prepared. Expectations are clear but she truly provides to you everything that you need to do. Flash cards are allowed with every speech and honestly most of the speeches were really easy. Stickler about devices but a great person and professor overall!

I LOVEED this professor. She makes speaking in crowds so easy and really takes her time with her students. My 8 am class with her was probably one of the best bunch of students i've ever had the joys of interacting with. She does have some online work but nothing that's unachievable.

Very easy teacher, just participate and following the grading criteria and you're good. She does offer EC but if you do well in her class then you don't need the EC. Sometimes she'll say snarky remarks when she's irritated but besides that she's good. Let her know if you're going to be absent. Every class day is points towards your grade.
