She's an awesome instructor--one class i look forward to
uncaring & indifferent to students
Made this class very easy
Instructor does not give exams, has students do ten journals, going to lectures is not helpful, just do journals and the presentations and paper.
She acts like she is too good for her students. Worst history class yet.
She is the most boring person I have ever met!!! If you want to stay sane, do not go to her lectures!
if you like history dont take this class you will hate history after youve taken this class. she lectures like shes giving a speech. worst class this semester!...JUST DONT DO IT!!!
A lot of reading material, and unclear of the assignments. An easy class to fall asleep in
the worst class i have ever taken! it sucked! her lectures are incredibly stupid...i think she has a prepared speech for each lecture. she reads from a paper. its like she wants to impress.if you like history dont do it. if you hate history dont do it.
good speaker, a little wordy, knows her material very well
I'm sorry, but the last time I checked, I was 20. Apparently, she didn't get the memo that her class isn't filled with six-year-olds. Maybe tomorrow we can actually start to study history.
Worst class I have ever taken. She says we cover important events, but yet we skipped the CIVIL WAR!! Does that seem wierd to anybody else? Discussion teacher Ms Sheinberg was only good thing about this class, at least she was helpful, skip this cla
Not that hard, class is basically optional! Go to study sessions and talk and you can get an A. Gives you the option of taking midterm and final or doing weekly journal.

can be a bit boring, but knows her stuff and is clear about the info. Go to the your discussion section and do your journals and you'll be fine.
There are no tests, 30% of the grade is class participation, you have to do well on final, which is a paper. She's not too bad, but somehow we skipped the Civil War.
Annoying voice, focuses a lot on History that's never taught in schools. Interesting lectures if you can keep your eyes open for 50 minutes. No tests!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If you're looking for an instructor who evaluates your work but doesn't teach you a thing or seem to have the slightest care if you pass or fail the class, Eve's your gal. How did SDSU get stuck with her?
She treats her class as if she were talking to a group of kindergarteners. Her history of childhood course is THE MOST politically correct crap class I've ever taken here. She also needs to wear a bra....in the worst way.
This class is pretty easy, but she is SO BORING!!She also plays annoying music which can give you a headache at 9 in the morning. She should be teaching kindergarted for real! Her outfit is always exactly the same, just different patterns! Take her class for an easy grade
Boring, no tests except final, weekly journals, pretty easy but lecture is so boring and hard to wake up to go in the morning. But I mean if you have to take it, dont stress. Its easy just boring.

Lectures are boring, especially early in morning. She has a lot to talk about if you're interested. I took the 2 midterms and a final option and had little homework otherwise. Fairly easy class as long as you study. Make sure you go to break out sessions once a week and you'll do fine!
Lectures are boring even though she is very knowledgeable about wheat she teaches. If I had to retake the class, it would not be with her.
The class itself, is relatively easy, but her lectures are SO BORING they become a test within themselves. Did I mention that they have the TAs take role even though it's a 500 person lecture hall? Boo!
Her lectures is so boring but the class itself isnt that back. The weekly journals are pretty easy unless you have a sucky TA. Its not that bad of a class but they take role in class for class particapation so that sux!
Class not bad, but grade depends on your TA; if you get matt, avoid at all costs; hard grader, needs to be his way, focuses his grading on his own topics, not according to the syllabus
This woman is crazy! She plays this weird polyphonic music crap. Don't know where she found it but I wish I could steal her copy and burn it! Other than the fact that she talks to you like your 5, it's not that hard. Just show up to lecture and sleep and do the weekly journal assignments. Easy A!
I'm sorry, I thought this was America History, not Women's History. If I wanted to learn about women's history in America I'd go to a dry cleaners. But TA Matt is a really cool guy, he made the class.
The class was very boring, but the discussion sections were cool. Break the reading up with friends and do the weekly journals, guaranteed A!
SOOOO much reading, you don't know your grade until the end of the semester you have no idea what it is. final paper graded really hard. interesting lecture, she takes a different perspective then typical hist classes. you have to read a ton every night of confusing primary sources in old english
So much f-ing reading that you won't know what to do with yourself once everything starts to build up. She gives you choices, which is nice, but both have equal amount of work. I suggest doing weekly journals as it will help you with your final paper. I fell asleep in every lecture but i got a B!
Class is somewhat boring!! Definetly pick the journal option. As long as you keep up with your journals, you will do fine.
shes crazy! she teaches the class like were 1st graders! the discussion classes have nothing to do with lectures. i had no idea what she was talkin about the whole semester. readings have nothin to do with the lectures. i dont know what i learned in the class. it was pointless.
talks to you like your in first grade
Lecture was interesting at times. When it wasn't the lighting was perfect to catch up on sleep. Do the journals all you have to do is reflect on the reading and give your opinion.
i didn't do weekly journals; i wrote two midterms and a final and pulled off a b. and i am definitely not a writer. lectures are pretty irrelevant; it's the discussions that you have to pay attention to. just participate so your discussion leader knows who you are and you will be fine.
This lady's a complete stupid ass. She takes american history, usually a fascinating topic, and makes it boring and unbearable! She looks like a man, and I would not be surprised if she had a big ol' wang.
This class was terrible. Kornfeld tried to make things interesting, I guess. She was definately passionate. My section leader didn't agree with my opinions, so I got crappy grades on my journal. We had to buy THREE books written by her, plus a few more. It was expensive and boring reading.
I found Dr. Kornfeld to be very knowledgeable & professional. Her teaching methods were excellent & I really enjoyed her class. I'm currently a graduate student in history & will always appreciate the learning experience that Dr. Kornfeld provided for her spring 2002 450W class. I would highly recommend any of her classes.
BORING! Avoid her at all costs! It was only hard because it was hard to pay attention to such a boring teacher!
she wears the same outfit everyday!
she is sooo annoying i swear she gets on my last nerves she talks 2 much i always fall asleep in her class and shes 2 into herself!!! I hate writin those stupid a$$ journals
i hate JOURNALS! I mean i really hate it..my section leader always gives me low grades on my journal.....my section leader..doesn't agree with the way i write fine then.b that way.. ..i'm so gonna fail this class..i hate those stupid journals..and i especially hate writing ..errr.too much writinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg
wow this class was a complete disappointment... really I had already taken an econ class in the same lecture room (ENS 280) but this teacher.. she just confuses you and drones on about history like if it were the best thing in the world. I so far have not done the journals but im guessing the midterms wont be hard... its bad enough i had to get like 5 books for her class. Guess I'll end up learning something with just reading the books, but yea the discussion classes are a lot funner.
The secret is just do the journals and find out from day one how the TA wants them to be written. Don't do the midterm and go to your TA's office hours or email them. They are helpful and they grade you, not her. Skip lecture and never miss discussion.

Ms. Courtial is the BEST TA EVER!!! YEHAWWWW!!! SHE IS ONE HOTTIE! OH YEAH!...and she is so nice!! can't get enough of her...YUMMY
The prof is eloquent....a little too intense though. Make sure that if you do the journals to find out immediately exactly what your t.a. expects. It sounds easier than it is! Watch out for Martin if she is your t.a; if she loses your paper she makes YOU do them again. She gives unclear directions and is unhelpful.
If your lucky enough to get Courtial as your section leader you'll be set. SHe is way cool and super nice. She help us understand the material in a more relative light and she really like teaching. She is the BEST!If you dont go to lecture its not that bad, but participation is huge, and never miss dicussion! Do all the journals and the readings,
ms. courtial is probably one of the best TA ...she really is super cool...yeah..i'm so lucky to have her as a TA cuz she totally helps us understand the past and shes just so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! I especially like the way she dresses...
more on the strange side than not. difficult to concentrate because she talks slow and just reads off of a peice of paper. reminds me of a female richard simmons.
This lady is sooo boring. There is no point to her lectures. I didnt pay attention to one lecture and am still doing fine in the class. The only reason you should go to lecture is to get participation points because they take attendance. lame class.
She's miserable. This is the only bad class I have ever taken at SDSU. Her lectures are useless and she is ANNOYING!! It's better to do the 2 midterm essays than the journals because no one does the midterm so the TAs grade easier, and you don't have to do the readings. Participation/attendance is 30% of the grade, the final is 40% and journals 30%
A lot of reading, but an easy B if you don't mind mild thinking.
Lame class. Really boring, but not that hard. The only bad thing is that participation is 30%, so if you're like me and don't like going to class don't take it.
Very boring class, and doesn't cover anything important in history. Didn't learn anything because her teaching style sucks. She is the worst professor I have ever had.
Awful teacher! Do not take her! Really boring class, covers useless topics and has an annoying teaching style. Attendance is taken in discussion and lecture. Stay away if possible!
BORING LECTURE! Though I got an A, it wasn't worth hearing her speak about minor stuff that happened in history. Be sure to check out if your section leader is cool, that pretty much how i got my good grade.
lectures reall suck. the only thing going for a person is if they get a cool TA then you will get a good grade, but if you get a bad TA your grade will slip. i had a bad TA and they gave me a C- for final grade when i had an B+ before the final. she just didn't like my final paper i guess but i did it exactly how she told me to do it. DONT TAKE IT
one thing****
You have an option of doing weekly journals or taking 2 midterms. I chose the journals and it was easy. There is a final paper worth 40% of your grade but all you do is compile all the info from the journals an sum it up in an 8-page paper at the end.
Really boring. Reiterates a lot of what she says. Lecture hall tests are optional, so don't bother coming except in the beginning to sign in (yeah I know who takes attendance in a 500+ class) unless your TA is a hound, then you're stuck. Only required to site something from her lecture in the 10 page final paper, so try to remember something.
History of childhood. Many many books, lots of reading. I recomend buying them on amazon. Weekly journal, no tests, 2 papers, 1 presentation. Fun class.
This class is EXTREMELY BORING! Lectures can be a drag almost everyone in the 500 person class slept during lecture.. You can either do two midterm papers and a final 10 pg paper or a 1 pg weekly journal and the 10pg paper. I would recommend the journals it forces you to read and helps with the final paper. Only take this class if you enjoy hist.
She has a different approach to history which is disappointing to people interested in the subject. Her teaching is just based on her ideas, not actual facts and dates. It's boring, but a pretty easy class if you read.
I highly suggest you do not take Eve Kornfeld. She takes attendance in a 500 class, lots of reading every single week. Gets annoying when you have other homework to be worrying about. You can write 1 page journals every week per reading or not and take midterms. 10 page paper at end of semester. DO NOT TAKE FRESHMAN YEAR. just too much work to do.
I liked Professor Kornfeld, it probably helps that I had an awesome TA (McManus). Attendance is mandatory- but I missed a few and still got a good grade- just do your journal and write a good final paper. This class is not as awful and hard as everyone says it is. You learn about the real people, not only the rich whities.
Very Boring Class. I fell asleep during most of the lectures. can choose between weekly journals [50+ pages of reading] or 2 midterm papers. and a final paper. I hated this class, and i dislike history because of it. Dont take the class, but you might want to see her tan line on her shoulders. its like Ebony and Ivory!
Seriously the worst teacher i have ever had. Boring.. lectures mandatory because you have to sign in. Pointless , all you really need is the discussion group.. i had a great T.A. thats the only reasonbn i stuck with the class
The lectures were boring and if attendance wasn't mandatory, you really would only have to go to the discussion sessions. Do the weekly journals, it will help you in the long run and makes your final paper 10X easier. Kornfeld is really enthusiastic about history and teaches history from an interesting angle but the way she presents it is boring.
Dr. Kornfeld is the worst professor I have ever had. She takes attendance AND assigns seats in a 500 person lecture hall... seriously? She assigns all of this extra reading and assignments that do not benefit your learning whatsoever, and makes you purchase all text books that she wrote that you will only read a few chapters of, which means more
For a 500 person class, she teaches in a horrible manner. The worst way to teach a huge lecture class is to stare out into the audience and just lecture, and that's what she does! Though we watched a couple interesting movies, EXPECT A LOTTT of reading every week (if you choose journal writing vs midterm papers). Too much time to put into a GE
This class is pretty awful. Go to class and talk in section for full participation. Its not hard to get an A but you won't learn anything
Kornfeld is this little woman that is built!!! she speaks very soft and i fell asleep in almost ever lecture. i recommend that you do the journals and not the midterm. it will make the final a lot easier. there is a lot of reading and you should actually do it. attendance and extra credit really do make a difference also
Lecture is extemelly boring. The TA was supposed to help understand lecture but not at all. Do midterms instead of journals unless you are a talented writer and enjoy reading endless amounts of text.
1)Pray you get an awesome TA, it makes all the difference since they read your midterms, journals and finals. 2)Do the weekly journals [expect a lot of reading though] instead of the midterm and paper. 3)She puts you in a seating chart 4)Never lets you out early 5)Intelligent but a bit boring.
Unfortunately, Dr. Kornfeld is vague about objectives and grades during the semester, and takes a holistic approach that leaves plenty of room for unpleasant surprises at the end of the semester. If you are a performance-driven student who likes to know how you are doing during the semester, do not take her class.
Good Teacher... incredibly knowledgeable. Basically do all the readings and come to class prepared to discuss. 90% of class was discussion. Fun class.
She is horrible, the only learning that goes on is with your TA, out of all of the furlough days she took all of them but then expected too much from the class. She also just keeps updating her old book so you have to buy the new one (it has stories that she copyrights)= no buybacks, there goes 100 dollars
For the love of God and all that is holy, take this class at a community college and save yourself the endless tedium. Kornfeld should never have been given permission to teach a freshman level lecture. I guess you can put 300 people in a seating chart and force them to watch 80's movies for half the semester...If you're a horrible teacher
Not difficult but not easy. Lots of reading and can either do a weekly journal or a midterm or midterm paper. DO THE JOURNALS. I didn't do any of the reading and ended up doing well in the class. Attendance is mandatory but you can sit and text message. Hours of reading but you can do well without it. Book is a waste of money. Can't be sold back.
HARD. Do the journal option instead of the midterm option. I pulled several all-nighters the night before each of the journals were due... Got horrible scores anyway. Points were taken off for things that weren't mentioned in the prompt. You need to clarify ideas with your TA or else you're setting yourself up to fail. GOOD LUCK!
Lecture is useless but go for participation (30% of your grade). What you need to know happens in discussion, so get a good TA. Do journals instead of the midterm exam and paper. The final is easier when you do the journals. There's too much reading, ~50 pages a week. If you do all the work (and know what you're talking about) and show up, easy A.
if you care about your gpa and social life, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. there's weekly journals and you are guaranteed roughly 100pgs of reading a week. oh yes, and she writes the book. you will feel like you're getting a good grade in the class, but in reality you are most likely failing.
HARD! Do the journals instead of the midterm option. There is a ton of reading, atleast 50-75 pages a week. get a good TA since they do all your grading, and go to class because its 30% of your grade, or just have someone write your name on the list.
Unclear re: what she wants. Does not give ANY grades until AFTER the course is over (no room for improvement) :( It seems she grades based on how much she likes the student, rather than on their work. Don't ask for much help or advice, because she is too important to answer lowly questions. Also, she is quite the judgmental elitist. Fear is her key
Extreme amounts of reading for 1 page double spaced weekly journals. Midterm with 40 % of your grade on two essays. Participation is 30 % so going to class is necessary to get a good grade.
No sense of direction in the course. First two weeks was reading articles that were no use to the material we were supposed to be studying....worst professor to have for history 109
This class is not easy, but at the same time it's not that difficult.Professor Kornfeld's lectures are kind of boring but above all the subject itself is interesting and if you do your readings and make an effort you'll learn a lot and PASS this class. I suggest doing the journals, even though it's a lot of reading, its worth it in the end!
Interesting course structure, but major problem: lack of knowing what your grade is until after the course is over. The prof does not put in extra effort to help students learn. She says "Figure it out yourself" &"follow your heart" but then grades really hard. Not consistent. Why is she teaching???
Even though she is nice and tries to be interesting, her lectures are just really boring and I didn't feel that I really learned anything useful at all, the discussions were really good though.
Overall good course- based mostly on other students' input. Prof is NOT v helpful outside of course. Do not bother asking for extra help/guidance/advice. She speaks in an elitist tone w/out catering to "normal" learners. She constantly says, "I went to Harvard & Princeton & thought I was teaching @ UCSD." Well, she's been @ SDSU for 20 years. Sad.
Snobby Prof. Talks down to students & makes mean & weird facial expressions when questions are asked, especially when she expects everyone to know the answer (though many students don't!). Is unwilling to help and is almost never in her office during posted office hours. It seems like she doesn't want to be teaching @ SDSU! She's too good for us.
Bo-ring! zzz. Kornfeld seems passionate about history, but no one can stay awake to learn anything! We go to lecture b/c the TAs take attendance. My TA is awesome, and that is the only reason I am learning. I went to her office hours and she wasn't there. I was told it is normal for her to miss office hours! Lame! She's pretentious and mean too.
Anyone else getting sick of reading on thirstdays? They should really change the discussion to a day where the entire class isn't hung over from the night before.
Everything she says is said in a condescending tone, even when she's thanking the janitor who fixed her microphone. She takes awkwardly long pauses between words when she talks and is hard to listen to for more than 5 mins. She seems to think she is better than just about everyone and won't stop mentioning that she went to Princeton. Avoid this one
What an awesome subject: social history of the US focusing on religion and other interesting topics. But what a horrible bi-atch of a teacher. Boring and mean and condescending and rude. Never at office hours. Really?? Does not seem to care or want to help. Expects too much.
Teacher with a passion for her subject. She wrote the textbook and has so much knowledge its a little overwhelming. As far as class went, large lecture met MW for 50min and small lecture F for 50min. Optional midterm, or 1 page Journals due every friday in small lecture. Unless you have a passion for history lectures are boring. Also take notes!
Harvard Phd. excellent gifted instructor. The second best class I have taken at SDSU. I learned that history is like prophesy: you only have job security if you tell the truth, back up truth with evidence (source documents), John Smith's letter of exploitation of indians as labors, the great lesson of the Shopkeeper's family in loving the poor.
TERRIBLE. Even if you care about the class you will find yourself bored in her lectures. The grading is inconsistent with weekly assignments and the final is weighted way too heavily. DO NOT TAKE if you can avoid her.
Kornfeld is a goddess Historian! I learned so much in her 450W class and her guidance was extremely helpful. Better to email her than visit office hours. Also, try to take 450W your Junior year, it really helps develop your writing skills. Weekly one pager on reading and class participation mandatory. She is NOT condescending.
Is passionate about history and is excited to teach, but teaching the material was lousy. Would put a picture up on the board and would talk about it the entire lecture without bullet points or other visual aid. Was very sarcastic when answering questions and even to the IT aid trying to fix her microphone or video. Avoid if possible
Rather listen to a dry history teacher that teaches dates and events (that might actually prove useful) than listen to her surplus of polyphonic rejects in her pretentious tone. To each his own. Oh and assigned seating?!?!
AVOID this class. While Kornfeld herself is not an entirely bad professor, the grading is run entirely by your small section teacher. This is where the problem lies. These small section teachers have had no prior teaching experience. They are biased and overly hungry for power. The final = 40% of your grade and is not graded in a consistent manner.
Only do the weekly journals if you have the time to read 60-80 pages of difficult reading and analyze it in depth. Kornfeld is passionate about history but quite arrogant when teaching it. Blackboard is not used for grades and you don't even get to know what you got on your final unless you personally meet with your TA, yet it is 40% of your grade
I think Prof.Kornfield is wonderful, but some of the TA's are horrible. You have to go to the TA to see your grade, they are not on blackboard. And then they tell you one thing and give you a different grade. I would not suggest having Byron Winick, I believe I would have done better with a different TA.
So I got an A. Do the journal or the final will suck. The journal is reading a primary source every week and writing a page on it. Tedious but not that hard. Final is an in class essay for 40%.Study the prompts and know specific examples.I liked the class because I like history and had an awesome TA (Higdon). Participate every discussion section!!!
Intelligent, thoughtful, and very helpful in this writing class. She is very encouraging to the students and it was wonderful to have her for my writing professor.
Horrible teacher, arrogant, selfish, condescending. Avoid at all cost.
professor kornfeld is the sweetest, most helpful professor. i can't imagine someone saying otherwise. she really helps her students out so much. take her.
best professor on earth!!!
Smarmy, pretentious, arrogant, unwilling to really help a student (especially without a sarcastic, superficial tone), and downright mean (ie to IT people, TAs,students, and other faculty). Hard class. Potential to be a great class filled with learning and interest. Simply need a different teacher!
Super liberal and feminist. Pretty boring too.
One of the best profs I've had! Lots of books required but she splits it up so you're only reading about 1-3 chapters a week. 2 5-page papers and 1 10-page final. 1 group project which is fun. She really challenges you to critically think and presents different aspects of Revolutionary War. Attendance required.
This class is quite boring, however Dr. Kornfeld is extremely knowledgable. I think it depends on what TA you get, but if you can put up with boring lectures and bust it out when it comes to readings, it is easy enough to get an A.
Her lectures are boring, however she is very passionate toward the subject. You can tell that she is fascinated by the history. She might be a hard grader but grades mainly depend on the TA you get
Only take her if you absolutely have no other choice-like you are graduating and she is the only one teaching the GE you need. In other words, try crashing with another professor before signing up with her.
I regret taking this class. Take it as credit/no credit.
No one does a seminar like Dr. Kornfeld. She is though provoking, intelligent, and an excellent facilitator. She is simply the best professor I have ever had. The course had one paper, a group project, weekly readings and discussions, and we had to lead discussion one week. Such a fun and great class with excellent books. Take her class.
Kornfeld is a great teacher who is quite passionate about her area of subject(revolutionary war history). She is all about the group discussion and so you gotta be in class.
Try to not take this class with this professor. Although very passionate, it's ran directly by her with her book and her info and if you don't conform the class sucks
This class was awfully boring. There was no structure to the class and she would lecture on irrelevant things. The TA does all the grading and she has no office hours. Kornfeld assigns a lot of reading, which for the most part is pointless. She gives you points for participation, so attendance is mandatory. I do NOT recommend Kornfeld.
This was the most boring class I had ever taken. You need to go to the lectures because of the participation points. They are long and boring, I fell asleep in almost all of them. Plus, test are not easy and you have to read a lot.
She just talks about things that you don't think matter and then gives essay exams on what you've read and talked about in class. I didn't read at all throughout the semester and passed. Only points are easy 1 point participation every day, 2 essay exams and the final which is 40% of your grade.
Don't have to do any work. Only need to show up to class because each class there is a participation where you write your name on a piece of binder paper and turn it in at a random time in the class. Finals are a little hard but she gives you prompts for them. Take this class its really not that bad.
You do have to go to class because of participation credit. However if you show up to class and somewhat listen to what she lectures on then the rest is easy. Show up and take notes and you will get a good grade.
Pretty easy class. Only essays no multiple choice tests. Reading maybe 30 pages max for an assignment for the week. Can participate if you want. Lots of extra credit for speaking. Participation point everyday (little writing assignment). Overall the lectures were interesting and I was dreading taking a history class. Was enjoyable and easy enough.
Kornfeld was actually really nice. I hate history and I ended up with an A in the class. It's easy, and she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of those. She grades papers and essays pretty easily, so just make it seem like you know what you're talking about.
Kornfeld is very sweet and she is super smart. She is very engaged in her teaching. She gives TONS of extra credit opportunities so be sure to take advantage of that.
Class was boring but not difficult. Do all the extra credit given and show up to class and you will be fine. I hate history and didn't do any reading for homework but she went over it in class so as long as you have the gist you will be able to do the papers. She gives prompts that she will choose before the final and midterm which was nice
One of my favorite classes so far at SDSU. I've never been a fan of history but she teaches it very well and makes it interesting. Some days can be a little boring but other days you learn a lot and are very well prepared for the midterm and final. Yes there is reading but you can skim and get the gist of it very easily and still participate.
I picked up this class to fill in some extra units and I regret it. Kornfeld is very passionate about the subject, but she assumes that you as a student of a 100 level class are too. If you're extremely passionate about history, this class is for you. If you're like me and don't like reading primary source documents from 1765, avoid this class.
Class was not hard, but boring. You have to come to class if you want to get credit for the journal entries she post at the end of class. The TA does most of the major grading, so pray that you get a good TA. I didn't do any of the reading since she goes over it in class.
Honestly, shes nice and caring, but thats where it ends. The class for a 100 level requires WAY MORE EFFORT than youd expect. You have to read, write and write really well as the TA does the significant grading. I was slacking but tried on the final. Understand I didnt deserve higher than a C, but an F was overboard. Avoid please.
Absolutely the worst class Ive ever taken, every single person Ive talked to in the class has said theyre failing or close to failing. Each journal is worth 1 point, one page reports are 5 and the mid term was 10&15. Low point class and unclear prompts, she later says that shes ACTUALLY looking for whatever. Also she wrote the textbook
This class had a lot of reading to do. Grades super hard and there are a lot of writing assignments and she takes attendance by having you submit a journal assignment usually every class. She is really nice and truly cares about what she is teaching, but its hard. It can also be very boring at times too. Just make sure you do all assignments.
She's a nice person, but assigns insane amounts of reading. If you don't do it, you don't get points for journals. THEY ADD UP FAST. If you like standing up and talking you can get extra credit, otherwise you're out of luck. She'll give you a horrible grade on a paper and not provide much explanation when you approach her. Don't take this class.
worst professor ever. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. All of the assignments are low stakes but because of that she feels like she can give you a 0 on everything. The only "extra credit" is if u talk during discussions. I have never hated anything more in my life. She expects a ridiculous amount of work for a 100 level class. Save yourself and do not take
I tried very hard in this class all semester and was still receiving poor grades. The rubrics are hard to find on blackboard and she expects her students to write to her standard without much instruction. Very tough grader as she treats her intro level history 100 class as one of her graduate student classes. Do not take unless you love history.
Avoid professor Kornfeld's history course it's not worth your time or effort. She is a tough grader and so are her TA's. Her grading is only 100 points so if you lose 5-6 points you are almost at a B and it's difficult to keep a good grade. Most of the students in my class are failing and have struggled to bring their grades up. AVOID HER CLASS!!!
Eve is the type of professor that teaches out of her own book. You will have a paper due about every few days. Very few feedback and mostly graded by TA. Class is out of 100 points so every point counts. Offers extra credit for speaking in front of class so use that to your advantage. Otherwise the class is so boring and long. Would not recommend.
It's easy to get a good grade in this class, but also easy to fall behind quickly. She's very interested in what she does and has amazing conversations... if you pay attention. Make sure to read, and PARTICIPATE. I got a 103% because of extra credit participation. Class is out of 100 points, so, again, PARTICIPATE!
Eve is very respected in her field. She does assign a lot of reading, but papers and journals are easy. She involves students as much as possible and gives extra credit opportunities. Group projects are easy and fun as well. Tests are completely easy style.
I took the "20th Century Intellectuals" course for Honors. I was hesitant based on these reviews, but Eve's a sweet prof. The classes can feel long (it's a seminar for 2+ hours), but she is understanding and very knowledgeable. Each class you are expected to have completed a reading (45 pages) and discuss in groups+with the class. I'd recommend it
Professor Kornfeld is extremely knowledgeable on everything she presents to you. I took intellectuals in 20th century europe with her and I was nervous from the past reviews of her, but she was probably one of the best professors I have had so far. She is very understanding and wants to see all of her students do well.
her class is very lecture heavy. She can talk for literal hours about pointless topics. She does not grade for the entire semester, so basically you don't know your grade until the end of the semester when its posted on WebPortal. She has weekly discussion boards and a 10 pg paper at the end of the semester which has no rubric or direction.
Kornfeld is open and calm. She gives direct feedback on drafts which are helpful in revisions. The class is a 15-page research paper broken into multiple drafts and oral presentations in groups. She provides students with resources on campus and tries to be positive. I recommend the class with her.
I took Professor Kornfeld for HONOR313: Grad School Prep and she was amazing! She cares so deeply about her students and sets everyone up for success. As long as you complete every assignment on time you receive and A in the class, so it is very clear what is expected of students! She is awesome and I would definitely take her class again.
Professor Kornfeld was the most caring and knowledgable professor. This semester, the class "Graduate School Preparation" was online, but she still made the effort to get to know every single student through our weekly short writing assignments. There were no tests or quizzes and assignments seemed to be graded on completion and participation.
She claimed it was fine to miss a class due to illness but your grade still drops. don't miss any class or assignments or your grade will drop a lot. there's also no grade until the very end of the year so you don't know until then. Material wasn't hard & she was nice but that doesn't mean anything if your grade drops over attendance. Not fun :/
Professor Kornfeld is an engaging and understanding instructor. The class is discussion-based, but she makes the material interesting. Definitely use unstuck ai and the free textbook to prepare.
Overall I felt she was a great professor. The prep you do in the semester greatly helps for the final essay, the prep is not hard yet you learn so much from it. She's a very easy grader, but she is extremely strict on attendance and turning in assignments on time. DO NOT MISS ANY classes unless of illness/hardship and letting her know in advance.
