She is a terrible teacher. Bad professor and terrible lecture. Doesn''t explain material. I took her for Quantitative Analysis and she often times messes up calculations or says things incorrectly during class then has to backtrack. The material is very difficult and she does a poor job of explaining it in class.
She seems like a new teacher. She does not know how to get student attention. She asks questions and then doesn't allow time for us to answer, so she has gotten accustomed to answering herself. And this is a quantitative class, she should create lectures with more time for studying the mathematics in our textbook problems.
One of the most unclear professors I have had. Not helpful, she has too high of expectations for the class. Lectures are unclear and doesn't explain concepts or equations and doesn't tell you what will be on the test even if you ask.
Poor lecturer and difficult to understand. Does not explain examples well; I must always refer to the book to clarify the confusion. Exams are written in a manner that seem much more complicated than homework and examples.
Awful teacher. She only talks to the front row and doesn't explain anything at all. She messes up on calculations in class and needs to backtrack causing a lot of confusion. Its a difficult subject and her teaching style doesn't help at all. Her tests don't correlate that well to the homework and are often things never seen before.
I had Dr. Metto during her first semester of teaching. Absolutely horrible. She would do examples in class but often mess them up and students ended up correcting her during lecture. The test averages hovered around 50%. If you got the right answer on an exam but didn't do it the way she wanted, she wouldn't give you points. She curved the class.
Class is very unclear. Most of my learning is done by online homework feedback and the book. Makes Frequent mistakes and does not correct them. She is not confident in herself and if you don't sit in front, she is hard to hear.
Eve is interesting. She is very smart, though makes class very difficult to understand by making material much more confusing than it has to be. People hated her, though I didn't find it that bad with basic Chem background. She doesn't believe in reviewsstudy guides, so you absolutely HAVE to know everything into the chapter if you want to succeed
Eve is very smart but has no idea how to teach. Would explain fairly simple concepts in the most difficult way possible, only reason I found they were simple was because I would teach them to myself. Puts notes online, almost wasn't even worth it to go to lecture because she only made you more confused. Would not recommend.
She knows the material but she doesn't know how to teach or answer questions.
I have never had such a bad professor in my life. She is nice, but is not clear and her tests are harder than homework and worded differently. The tests have multiple choice and written questions and they do not give you time to think about if you are doing it right or not. Gives only 50 min exams and that is it no more no less.
She is from Kenya and difficult to understand at times but is very helpful if you ask her any question. She is very kind and very knowledgeable in her field. This class really gave me a basis for chemistry courses to follow!
Eve is a very kind, smart person. She teaches and does examples from PowerPoints, and this information will get you a decent grade on the test if you study it enough. Students really disliked her and were rude to her, but she is not that bad. She's willing to work with you. Put in the effort and its not that bad. Graded group work in class.
Eve is the most unclear professor that I have ever had. She frequently makes mistakes without correcting them and leaves the students confused. Caring person but doesn't know how to teach in a way for the class to understand the concepts. The majority of learning is done by online homework and reading the textbook. I wouldn't recommend.
Eve is hard to understand sometimes, but she really does have your best interests in mind. Ask questions and you'll be okay. People have been saying that she's very difficult, but it's not too bad as long as you put in a normal amount of effort and ask for clarity when needed. She will happily explain things if she becomes aware of an issue.
Metto is a highly intelligent professor, but she is not good at teaching. She reads directly off of the slides (which are uploaded online), and the lectures seem to drag on for eternity. You're honestly better off teaching yourself from the book. Class got far behind on the material, and never caught up, which made the tests EXTREMELY difficult.
Her lectures cover everything you need to know, and if you ask questions on what you don't understand she will explain it until you get it. The exams are hard (you definitely have to study) but fair. She is a bit hard to pay attention to, especially towards the end of the semester, but if you take good notes and don't skip class you'll do fine.
Eve was so sweet! We had a small class, and she made sure she knew everyone by name. She went at a good pace, and allowed students to comfortable ask questions. The lab correlated really well with the lecture. You could tell she really cares about her students. I will miss having her as a prof, she was one of the good ones.
She's really nice but gets a bad rep because it's a more difficult class
Didn't really explain anything and only read off slides during lectures. She was a nice person and knew the material but did not know how to teach it. Going to class was kind of pointless and I often left more confused than I came.
Eve knows a lot about chemistry but does not know how to teach. She reads straight from the slides. The only reason I did good in this class is I have a solid chemistry background from high school, so if you don't have a strong background, DO NOT TAKE EVE'S CLASS. Also, the class average was a 55% yet she refused to curve the tests. Worst professor
This was the worst class I've ever taken. When I went to class her lectures were so bad that she confused me more, but if I skipped class I lost participation points. I would study the material for hours but still fail tests and quizzes, and I barely passed the class. If you have her, you'll rely heavily on youtube videos to teach you the content.
The lectures were very boring and not in depth. The tests are not curved and they make up a majority of your grade.
Lectures are confusing and you'll be more confused after them than before. Tests have material never covered in class and will have you pulling out your hair. Avoid this professor. Your best friend will be crash course and other chemistry youtube channels.
She is a terrible teacher and has tests and quizzes on material that we never went over in class. She set up the class so she could do as little work as possible. Tests and quizzes weren't curved even though the average score would be failing. If you don't have to take her class don't take it. It will just leave you frustrated and crying.
Probably the worst chem professor. She will not help you at all, it's hard to understand her, and she thinks everyone is a chem genius.
Don't get me wrong she's a really nice lady and her effort is there but she's just not a good teacher. She FLYS through material. She'll go through multiple sections a day and even a chapter in a week. Youtube is a go-to for this class. You'll learn more in a 8 minute video then she will try to teach you in a single lecture
People give her a bad rep; I don't really think it's her as much as it's the material being covered is difficult. Yeah, the class covers A LOT of material, as to be expected with a general class, and the exams are crazy difficult (YMMV), but Dr. Metto is one of the best, most approachable professors I've had yet. Take advantage of her office hours.
Not good and very very hard to understand
Eve Metto is the worst professor I've ever had. She goes way too fast on notes, she is very quiet and hard to understand, and she never responds to emails. I'd recommend Eve to any student who enjoys ripping out their hair, stressing out really hard before tests, and finishing lectures without having any idea what happened.
Dr. Metto is a nice person, but needs improvement as a professor as feedback is often delayed over email. Typically will email within a day or no response. The exams given are very difficult and some questions are not memorizable and is pretty much guessworthy.. Barely anything was curved except for the final, and no extra credit was given.
She gets a bad rap, but the class isn't that difficult if you read the textbook, watch the provided lectures, and complete the end of chapter questions. Online exams were proctored, but they aren't that hard if you study. Complete the homework and notes worksheets for easy points.
Professor Metto was not the greatest. To succeed in her course you need to complete the assignments and take good notes. Make sure you study well and lean on others for help. I have emailed her a number of times with questions and concerns and she never responded. With that being said, she isn't a bad person, just a bad professor.
This class was awful to take. I was super stressed all the time. It was super difficult to understand the material. Dr Metto lectures didn't help much at all. If anything they made me even more confused then I already was. She seems like a sweet person. However, her teaching style is horrible.
Online isn't a great representation of a professors abilities to teach, and I'm fully aware of that. Dr. Metto is obviously very intelligent but doesn't seem passionate about the classwork what so ever. There was no live zoom, rather you'd watch a long, 40-50 minute lecture video with some of the most boring and dry commentary over it.
Dr. Metto is an incredibly intelligent person who is clearly passionate about chemistry. Yes, chemistry is hard but she is aware of that and really wants all of her students to do well. It is important to stay on top of homework and reading in order to get practice in but she makes it very easy to do so with specific reading guides to fill out.
You can tell she loves teaching and has a passion for it. This is my 3rd time taking chem and I've had different professors each time. My first time I had to withdraw because I was doing terrible(30%) and my second I did poorly again(this time because of some medical stuff). I currently sit at an 86% with Eve nearing end of semester.
I had eve in an online class and she was very hard to understand. we didn't have zoom meetings, only 1 video posted a week and expected to know everything on the tests. she had us use lockdown browser for tests which i think invades privacy. do not even think about taking her, there are much better profs out there
Metto was by far the worst teacher that I have taken. Her lectures are unhelpful and she even has to double check if she wrote the equations right. She is not a helpful teacher. Does not answer emails either.
Dr Metto deserves way better reviews! I had to retake this course after failing it with a different prof. Metto was so encouraging and upbeat. She never makes you feel like you have a bad question. I love her stories in class, she is ver engaging. Chem is a boring class, but she tries to make you laugh. GO TO CLASS IT HELPS SO MUCH
This CHEM class isn't the hardest, and I'm glad Eve decided to make it feel that way. It was of course boring, but Eve was showing effort to make it not seem that way. One of the more average instructions I have ever received, with lectures that get you the material but are not special in any way.
Never felt so frustrated in my learning experience. Most of my points came from group work/homework (which has unlimited attempts, so it's doable to get 100% by mere guessing). Lectures were taught so fast I couldn't even comprehend the material just by listening. YouTube provided a better resource. Wordy presentations w/ little help to homework.
I loved Dr. Metto as an individual. She was one of the most caring professors I had first semester and accomodated to some personal issues I endured in the class. The class is hard people, no doubt about that. However if you have to want an A/B, you will have to spend a lot of time studying. Remember this is a general class and it covers everything
Quizzes had more errors than questions. I just gave up on showing up after the first few weeks and started just reading the book. Got a C+ on the first exam which is still above the class average. To say that the class average is a C- and isn't curved speaks volumes. Honestly watch a few organic chemist tutor videos and don't take this class.
DO NOT take Eve if you are not interested in chemistry. I had to take chem and got stuck in her class.
There is little structure to the course and she often gives out important information and assignments after class has ended. Due dates are regularly extended after they have already passed. She loosely follows the textbook so you NEED to go to every class to know what material is expected, and to memorize and regurgitate example problems.
Terrible, can't teach, doesn't know material, doesn't give us all of the info needed to complete assignments, put 10 chapters taught in 2 weeks on one exam, gives people with same work material different grades, doesn't show up to her office hours or respond to emails, doesn't let TAs help us, doesn't let us see 1/2 exam to learn from mistakes, bad
This professor was the worst that I have had in college. She gave terrible explanations, exams that weren't on problems we had gone over, she made typos and errors on almost every assignment/key, didn't show up to her office hours, graded everything extremely harshly and inconsistently, and so much more. Do not take this with her!!
class is hard, she is a solid professor if you pay attention
Doesn't deserve most of the hate. You gotta go to class and pay attention to succeed it's as simple as that. The class is boring and the subject is difficult to grasp. She tries but occasionally fails to make the content as coherent as possible. She's occasionally kinda funny and does seem to care.
As a chemistry major, Eve Metto is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. My favorite quotes she said this semester were "I know I'm a good teacher" and "I'm disappointed in you guys". Metto made this class so much harder than it should've been. She gave people with the same work different grades. Notes and examples are not posted in canvas.
Eve is a nice person but struggles to communicate what information she knows. Homework, quizzes, and exams included far too much material not covered in lectures. The first two exams covered about three chapters but the final exam covered 10. The test average was a 60% but she does not believe in curves as they "disrespect math".
Class in general is tough but she makes it far worse than it needs to be. Has recorded lectures of each lesson but refuses to post them for absent students or those that want to review/study. Constantly does not get examples right in class and must be corrected by students. Final exam is 25% of grade. Won't let you see test to learn from mistakes.
Eve is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She is a very carless, and believes the students are the root to poor average scores rather than her teaching. She beats around the bush when it comes to finding the correct answer to problems, and makes errors frequently. She is incredibly stuck up and believes she is a great teacher. Stay Away!
Absolutely terrible professor. Unorganized, doesn't articulate the material well, and doesn't give any feedback or let you view your exam results. Avoid at all costs.
She goes over different topics multiple times to try to make sure everyone understands. She actually cares about how her students are doing and wants to help people learn chemistry not just for school but for practical reasons as well. People don't fail her class because she's teaching it, they fail because they didn't show up or pay attention.
she is always willing to help. so far she is going over everything i learned in my regular high school chem class. does a in-class participation about once a week but its just 5 problems usually. she is nice and not very difficult. one homework for every chapter but not bad at all.
Absolutely do not recommend.
Metto definitely wants her students to succeed but she makes it difficult. Often she'd teach new content the day before the exam and the next day you'd be tested on it, which didn't give students enough time to learn the material or as in depth, the class average was a 52% on exams. Go to lecture to lecture to get easy points. Very difficult tests.
In all honesty, she was genuinely not as bad of a professor as I'd expected going off of her reviews. She was very kind and approachable and her exams generally tended to be material we'd gone over. However, there were some exams where there was too much she went over and not enough time for us to actually learn it.
If you pay attention in class, show up and participate you will get a good grade. She gives out worksheets to do in class and she walks around making sure you understand how to get to a solution. Very nice and approachable and quick to respond.
Prof. Metto's class was pretty easy if you have prior knowledge about chem. She has lots of worksheets and homework, but they are easy or not super important. Her exams are hard if you don't work hard in class and do the work. She is passionate about the subject and her students. Show up, do the assignments, and you will do great in the exams.
Eve is a great person, however her classes can be extremely bland. The accent is tough, but you get used to it in the first few classes. Overall this course itself is at flaw, it is a horrible course. Eve does a good job at thoroughly explaining the information. However, she leans really hard into the areas she enjoys more (GC). Very hard course...
She is really nice but can make content harder to understand than necessary. There are worksheets every lecture for easy points. You'll probably do well if you go to the lectures. If you're not good at chem I would not recommend her class.
Dr. Metto fills her lectures with detailed material and stories that she uses as examples to help her students understand. Her exams are very straightforward with multiple choice and written answer problems. She encourages her students to ask questions and makes sure to take the time to answer them fully.
Great lectures, and good homework, and her exams are slightly rough and unexpected, but the final for the class is very easy. She's kind and cares for your future at a chemist. She's more concerned about your lab grade most of the time, and her lectures compliment what you do in the lab. Very easy to understand, and overall amazing.
Eve is a caring professor who wants her students to do well, but in the end makes it kind of difficult. She always either over-explains stuff or doesn't explain enough, and can be super nit-picky when it comes to grading. Lectures are important to attend since a bulk of the points come from in-class worksheets, but the lectures can really drag.
Most confusing professor I've ever had. Seems to forget important parts to the lecture or expects you to know them previously. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed, but she is not the greatest at lecturing, so get ready to read that textbook if you want to do well in her tests. Had to ask for help from the TA almost everyday
Probably the worst college professor I have ever had.
Absolutely Horrible. Uncaring to me, uncaring to people. Class was quiet and nobody understood a word she said. Bad person, bad teaching, I couldn't understand a thing. If you are building your schedule find another time, or take it in the summer. You will get more out of it than this woman.
She's horrible. Constantly will tell us things, and then backtracks and oh never mind. No resources on what to study for final, only that the last two units are more prevalent. Total Type B personality PRETENDING to be a Type A. No review? Nothing? This environment is impossible to work in.
Dr. Metto made Gen Chem feel like rocket science. She mumbled through lectures, never clarified anything, and constantly contradicted herself. I left every class more confused than when I arrived.
This was the worst class I've taken. She flies through slides like we're all experts, never checks if people are following, and the quizzes had multiple typos every week. I stopped going after a month.
Metto is not a good professor. She rushes through complex topics with no examples, no feedback, and no chance to ask questions. If you value your GPA or your sanity, stay far away.
Zero review before exams, rushed lessons, and unclear homework. Most people stopped attending after a few weeks. Felt like we were all just teaching ourselves.
She's smart but makes simple topics harder. YouTube was more useful than any of her lectures. Felt lost every class. No curve for exams either.
Worst prof I've ever had. Mumbles through slides, never checks if equations are correct, and doesn't reply to emails. I gave up after week 3 and self-taught everything.
Confusing lectures and inconsistent explanations. Class average was a C- and she just moved on like it was fine. No structure, no support, no learning.
worst chem teacher
I've never been so frustrated with a class. Half of the time, the work we were given didn't have an the info needed to solve the problems. Had to teach myself with youtube and khan academy after every single lecture. Stopped asking questions after the first week when I realized I wasn't getting any answers, just struggling responses.
Only 1 homework assignment a week, 3 tests, along with a lab once a week, which is not taught by her. The lectures can be and often are boring, but are optional; however, she explains topics and concepts accurately. Solid teacher, just has to deal with low intellects and lazy people who can't comprehend basic Chem, that's why her rating is at a 2.
I don't understand why she gets bad ratings. I'm not the biggest chem student myself, but she's kind, & as long as you show up to class, pay attention, and at the very least attempt the in class homework she hands out, you will do well. She is very passionate about teaching students to be more curious about science, and wants her students to learn.
No clue why she has awful ratings. Honestly, a very good professor who cares deeply about the people in the class. She made the topics easy to understand, and if you don't, there are TAs to help when doing in-class work. The only thing that was hard for me was understanding her at the start, but you quickly pick up on her accent. Tests aren't hard!
