Worst teacher I've ever had. Whatever you do, don't sign up for ANY class with her.

Gives assignments and never collects/gives credit for. Tries to fit in way too many books in the time given. Final/Midterm essay questions were given ahead of time... just have to study for them all even though you only write about 1 or 2.

She doesn't value her students or their opinions. No one raises their hands in class or answers her questions in fear of being shunned by her and humiliated. Not helpful, or understanding at all. Propogates her religion (judaism) only.

Easy A. Awful teacher!!! Can't teach worth anything! She needs to be put out to pasture! She looses students papers and then blames them for not turning them in! Don't take her. She is also disorganized

Awful, awful,awful. I had her class from 4-6:40 She would rarly allow breaks nor would she allow us to bring or eat snacks in HER class. Very disorganized and forgetful.

I agree with everthing from the 10/8/04 Jewish lit post except for the easy A part. It didn't help that I was a male or German either. I don't know if she is still teaching but she is trying to change the requirements for the English major

Frequently late and disorganized. Book assignments are expected to have been read the week after they're assigned and known back to front. Not very engaging. A bit standoffish and frequently difficult to listen to. 2.5 hour classes are not her forte. Not recommended for short attention spans.

Dropped it after spring break, it was that bad. Requires reading at least a book a week. In class talks how book relates to relgion. Very boring. Very old. TOUGH Grader. I think half of my class received 60 or lower on the first essay test. Avoid if possible.

Only her answers will do. She's a dizbang in givings and collecting and grading, overall she's quite hateful.

Loses papers,hard grader,quizzes&tests r impossible,doesnt allow makeups I went to a funeral and missed a 100pt quiz and she wouldn't allow a makeup. If u raise ur hand ur answer is wrong, but she will say the same thing a second later and its right, rude and insulting. Accused me of flirting & made me move to the front of the class,this is COLLEGE

OMG this teacher is such a b****... DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She told me the day of drop/add to drop her class but it was too late to find a replacement so I'm stuck in it. She is very unclear and plays favorites. Only take this class if you have background or are ready to be torn to pieces, esp your answers...

Evil evil evil! I dont think I have ever felt such hatred towards someone in my life. I just wanted to read some good books, now I feel ILL when Im in there. What kind of prof only accepts ONE interpretation of a poem or story?! She has the worst attitude and obviously thinks her class is important when not too many people give a s**t.

WORST CLASS EVER!!! do not take her she is so mean she made like 3 people cry in the class already and the semester is not even over. she will say this class is all about your opions but its not, you have to write exactly what she thinks or else you fail.

Wow! I usually love lit. classes and she completely ruined it for me. Her syllabus is very vague - she adds in grades all the time without telling you. She can barely understand the literature herself and there is not enough time to discuss all the books properly. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.

This professor was so awful that I almost changed my major from English to General Studies. I've now taught English for 14 years, and I strive to be everything this professor was not. If you must take Advanced Composition, then do yourself a favor and wait until the class is being taught by someone else.

I don't care who you are, you will be miserable. It is not worth a semester in this class to get 3 credits for a Gen Ed. Find another class. Period. Tests cover a lot of information but the questions are precise. You cannot win with her. No matter what you say, you are wrong. You learn nothing-class is torture. She will fail you on a whim.

This professor is strict and will not like any of your answers. In this class, only what she thinks matters-not what the kids think. She is strict about attendence. Forget about getting help from her outside of class!!!

Had her for Modern Jewish Lit. She accused several people of plagarism on a paper we weren't allowed to cite sources for. If your interpretation doesn't match up with hers, prepare to lose credit on the tests.

I would not recommend this class to anyone. The class is boring and dry. you actually have to read the novels(no sparknotes available) which are boring and hard to read. class is all essays and quizes.you must remember lines and quotes from books on quizes . DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF NOT REQUIRED!! Find another of interest.

Like taking a history class as taught by Bill O'Reilly. Spends much of the class giving a a completely one-sided, overly generalized narrative of American history. Felt like pounding my head against the desk. Take this class if this sounds like fun to you.

Absolutely terrible. She didn't know I was in the class and marked my name off the list twice even though I talked to her about it more than once. Very one sided only tells her views! She refuses to speak any louder when you can't hear her. If you speak out or she doesn't like what you say she will give you a death stare like you're an idiot.RETIRE

This teacher expects a lot out of you. She thinks that everyone is Jewish or should know everything about Jewish history. She makes u read so many books... there were at least 3 that were about 280 pages and expects u to know little details about the book. Unless u sit in front of the class u cannot hear a word that she says she basically whispers!

By far the worst teacher I've had in college. Speaks so softly no one can hear. Quizzes are impossible, and she gives them before we even discuss the books. Awful teacher. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT TAKE HER.

Had her for a modern jewish lit. Everything said is true, she lost a quiz, took 4 weeks to not have it counted in my grade. She is very inconsistant in class requirements, expects you to know the books as if you were a jewish studies major. Such that minute details are used on quizes. Not a recommended professor. Doesn't follow her syllabus.

She is unclear, unorganized and does not tell you what she wants. Quizzes on every book and she pulls the most random 2 words from the book and expects you to be able to tell you who said it and the context it was in. She is a very hard grader and you go through the semester not even knowing your grades. AVOID TAKING HER.

DO NOT TAKE HER. She gave me a C and when I asked why she told me I got a 54 on the midterm when I really got a 91 and she refuses to change it. If you want to get the grade she deserve don't take her class

I read about this professor on this website knowing ahead of time nobody liked her. I've had some pretty bad teachers before and I figured I'd just suck it up and handle it. WRONG! 350 words is not enough to express why she is so frustrating. Do not take this class. It really sucks

Nice lady, horrible class. doesnt remember to give quizes or collect hw and when she does its 3weeks after the fact. Gave the wrong midterm and e-mailed at 2am the morning of to bring blue books. never returns e-mails. do not take this class just to fill a gened. its boring and somewhat incoherent.

She does not follow the syllabus schedule. Her view is the only view of the readings. Communication with her is difficult and sometimes incomprehensible. She will lecture on exam material after the exam has already been given. Dealing with Dr. Avery's poor attitude toward students is about half the work required for the class.

She speaks softly and is moody sometimes. We are 8 weeks into the class still haven't had our midterm yet. I really wish she would make up her mind about assignments. She also doesn't stick to the schedule so toss it out when you get it and she keeps repeating her lessons. It's quite useless!!

She told us to read certain books and tested on different stories. Many times she straight up forgot what she wants to do. Many repetitive lectures. She gets mad when you ask her questions. And if you take the class, remember this: She will give you a quote from the story you have to read and expects you to know who says it, to who, and pg number.

I had Dr. Avery for Jewish Lit, and I agree with most of what was said before. Her head is in the clouds and she doesn't know which way is up, and often changes the dates/ instructions on assignments. That being said, I throughly enjoyed the books we read in the class and received an A by taking notes on the books and actually reading them all.
