Dr. Perry's class, while challenging, is great! She's a lot of fun, and you learn so much. If you're looking for a class that you will leave with something, I would choose one with her.
She is a great teacher - besides being incredibly knowledgable about the subject, Dr. Perry is very approachable and funny, which makes the class even better. Although she can be a tough grader, she is fair enough. Everyone should take her classes!
A great teacher, all around. Very nice, very friendly, and very knowledgeable and passionate about the subjects she teaches. And HOT.
Dr. Perry made writing easy and enjoyable. She uses fairy tale topics and breaks every part of writing a paper down. If I were to ever take an other writing/English course I would def. take it with her.
Creative writing is the fourth class I've taken with Dr. Perry. I've also taken, Prose Writing, Literary Study, and Writers Collaborating with Artists. Dr. Perry makes you work hard. But she's fair, fun, and her classes are always interesting. ;-p
enjoyable classes. very knowledgeable, but seems to assume things about students based on dress. kind of catty and arrogant.
Dr. Perry picks her favorties and seems to discriminate against you if you are not in her "favorite" group. She does teach alright, but her favoritism is easily seen. She is not very helpful when going for help either, unless you are someone she
alright teacher, unhelpful, tends to compair students on different levels, wouldnt recommend her at all
wouldnt recommend her for english classes
Dr. Perry starts out really nice. And as soon as she decides she doesn't like you, or what you've written, she gets really catty. She needs to learn to leave her personal feelings at the door, or at least not to make them so obvious.
You either love her or hate her. If you challenge her at all, she hates you. She lets jealousy and personal vendettas get in the way of teaching. And she's a VERY unfair grader. If you take her, be sure to suck up to her.

I admire her.
A true scholar who hopes to pass on good scholarship to her students. Will never let you slack. Immense patience with lazy, whiny students
the only thing clear in this class is who she likes and dislikes, plays favorites and lets personal feelings interfere with her job. she grades based upon this and helps only those who she likes. wouldnt recommened her to anyone
Awesome, smart, fun
The only reason that certain students don't find immense value in the teaching of Dr. Perry is because they have injured egos. She will not grade you well if you don't do the work well--but she will work with you to improve yourself. She is amazing.
taking 1 of her classes is a great oppertunity! You learn so very much from her without even realizing it. She will push you to reach your potential, and has more patience with whiners and slackers than any other prof. I've had at FSC.
she is compassionate, quirky, dedicated, often uncensored, expects students to write beyond the high school level and truly improve their craft -- wish I could have taken more than two of her classes.
Dr.Perry is an awesome teacher. Her classes are fun.She wants the best for her students and also challenges them in a healthy way to be the best they can be. Not only is she a great teacher, but she is a great person and I feel honored to have had her.
either likes you or hates you, wont help you if she doesnt like you. wouldnt take her class ever again...could have done without her class
worst teacher at framingham state. Very unhelpful
Perry is one of the most amazing teachers I've had in the English department. She's painfully honest, and isn't afraid to tell you what's on her mind. She's always out to help her students, and pushes them beyond their limits! Perry's awesome!
Very rude woman, picks favorites, unprofessional, makes you feel bad about your work.
Immature and rude and she plays favorites. She is so inappropriate, trying to act like she's just a kid. grow up! btw, all the positive reviews on the 4th of July were written by her after someone told her about this site.
is very immature and disrepectful to students. she either likes you or hates you. She has to learn to keep her personal feelings out of the classroom. IF she hates you, you wont do well in her class. She acts like shes a 4 year old and personally i dont wanna be taught by a child
I've seen both sides of Dr. Perry. She can sometimes say things on impulse- but all of us do that. I think overall she really does care and much of her critism is purely constructive.
she hates attractive girls and loves anyone who is male. even if they are dumb as a stump she will grade them better. unfair and acts like she is 14yr old wannabe cheerleader!
i hoped to write after college, but after that class i cant stand it... she's very unhelpful, rude, plays favorites based on personal style, attire and personality, also childish in her actions...stay awayyyy...to sum it up: she shouldn't be a teacher and i would never take another class with her!!!
She seems really nice. I havent gotten back my first portfolio submission. But she seems to care what students think about her class and if things are going smoothly. Overall she is nice - but I dont know how she grades (its march im a little worried)thats the only bad thing. class time goes by fast
Great course, extremely helpful. A great professor for a creative mind. You must have a sense of humor and not be offended by light vulgarity.
This professor inspired me to write. Dr. Perry actually wants you to learn something. She is NOT easy, and will not tell you what you want to hear. She pushes you to get you to do your best and has been more than available when I've needed help. She is also really personable and cares very much about her students, which is why she is so demanding.
Ihave taken 4 classes with her which I wouldn't if I didn't really like her. But if you don't have a sense of humor or are looking for an easy grade her classes are not for you
not the type of teacher I'm used to. Very rude if she doesnt like you. Singles out people for the wrong reasons
Dr. Perry is by far one of the most brilliant proffessors I have ever had. She is intelligent, well-spoken, and has an awesome sense of humor. I think she tends to get a bad rap because her classes are difficult. This is college, come prepared to learn and work, and you should do fine in her class!
Dr. Perry is the best professor at FSC. If you didn't do well in her class is was because of your own lack of motivation and determination, not her lack of ability.
rude rude rude! disrespectful of students, caddy and immature. Acts like shes in highschool.Unprofessional. Did I mention rude?

Dr. Perry is my least favorite professor at FSC. She is rude, plays favorites and acts as if she is always right, regardless if you have a point to prove. I did well in her class, so it was not for my lack of effort, but the overall experience was a waste of my time. I do not know of any other professor who constantly curses in the classroom or who leaves students unsure whether they can ask for help.
Did well in her class. However, I never thought a professor could act so childish. WOW! She was supposed to be there to teach, not try to be above us.
really loved her class wd def take it again
Online. Best online class I ever had. Always got back to me quickly and was really helpful.
These ratings really got me scared! But I've had a great experience in Dr. Perry's class...I've learned a lot and even though she isn't an easy prof. she is a nice person & these ratings are before she went on sabbatical...I think motherhood probably softened her up a little...take her class, you'll learn a lot! I'm taking her next semester!

REally fun class.
lit for children.... if you don't have time to read the children's books then don't take the class. Also, you have to write a number of papers throughout the semester that are graded very harshly.
She played favorites. Decent writers were put off by the fact that if you were not in here inner circle you were graded harshly and your work was panned as being uncreative. Maybe she is a good writer but she is not a good teacher.
Prof Perry is a very nice woman. That being said she does expect alot out of her students. She grades papers very harshly but allows revsing, and expects you to see her during office hours. She doesn't give alot of papers or work, and is very flexible about it.Her overall grading systems very fair. And is a good class in general. BTW NO BOOK!
Dr. Perry is the most self-abosrbed and rude professor I've ever had. She talked about herself all the time and made incredibly inappropriate comments in class. Definitely had favorites in the class to the point it was embarrassingly obvious.
Excellent Professor! She's hilarious and is enthusiastic about what she teaches. I'd take another class with her.
Dr. Perry is awesome. As far as homework goes, in Lit Study, a weekly writing prompt and HEAVY reading was expected. Her expectations are very high of her students, but she is very helpful and makes it mandatory to go to her office hours for help. She is hilarious & I looked forward to going to her class. I would reccomend her, but be ready to work!
I go out of my way to take classes with Dr. Perry; she's absolutely fantastic.
She's pretty much the most self absorbed human being I have ever met in my life. She talked about herself all the time. She assigned someone in the class to bring her cookies every week because she was pregnant. Swears a lot and mocks colleagues and students. Just an immature woman.
I've taken 2 classes with Prof. Perry and she's fantastic. She does demand a lot from her students. She expects you to have an opinion and encourages you to pursue topics that interest you. She's very flexible and pays attention to students needs. She is a tough grader but is always available for help or clarification. I recommend taking her class.
Had this professor for an online class and she is terrible...do not sign up for her classes unless you're an English major! She does nothing, you do all the reading and report on it and she gives you some grade which isn't even explained as to what you did right or wrong. The worse professor I've ever had!!!
The WORST Professor that I've had to date! If you aren't an English major, DO NOT take her online class..it's a lot of work and she gives no clarification as to what she expects or how she has graded your work!!
Absolutely awful. Shows up late for student teacher observations, doesn't read your lessons, and is extremely self absorbed. If you have her for you student teaching supervisor...BEWARE!
I don't know what everyone else is complaining about, Dr. Perry is also incredibly friendly in class and funny. Class isn't that hard, got B's on my first draft papers and took only an hour to write. I enjoy the class and if you know how to write a basic 5 paragraph essay you can easily pass.
Although she has a perky attitude, cracks a few jokes in class and cancels class for unnecessary reasons, she is by far the worse teacher I have had yet! She is not clear about what she wants for your paper, grades very hard, and you have two papers that make up your grade for the class. I do no recommend her at all EVEN if you are an ENG Major!!
Perry is a very fair professor. Some may find her grading to be harsh but you can rewrite practically any assignment for a better grade. She is friendly and has a great sense of humor, making the classroom environment relaxed and easy to work in. I found that my writing vastly improved in her class. If you care enough you'll do fine.
The class was easy enough. It was not very challenging reading, even tho the prof kept insisting that it was. She is incredibly rude, snarky and narcissistic. She is not helpful and even has a policy of not putting any comments on your big final essay project. Literature for teens taught by someone with the emotional maturity of a teenager.
Best prof in the English department. Funny and energetic!Grades hard but fairly.
Everyone giving Dr. Perry a bad review is just a sour grape. She is hard and expects a lot, but she is such an amazing and intelligent professor! She does care about how you do in her class. By far my favorite professor in the English Department at FSU. And to those who say she's rude: that's just her sense of humor. Lighten up!
Child Lit- Class was fun. interesting not very demanding. Sorta tough grader. She believes average is C work.. so really edit your essays.. midterm in class not too hard. final a paper about a field trip to the Eric Carle museum which was very cute and fun too :-) take if your an ed major or enjoy childrens literature u read 4-5 small novels.
Professor Perry is one of the most un-intimidating and helpful professors at FSU. She is clear in class about what she wants and is extremely flexible. She will always give extra help if you need it and she strongly encourages students to see her in her office hours! She is a tough grader but almost always allows you to revise!
Should have avoided this class. Grading is unpredictable and teacher does not follow her own grading guidelines. Can't figure out what she wants because she does not comment. When she does it's to say good job while giving a C-. At least the book was interesting.
Professor Perry is really nice and sweet, however her assignments are not very straight forward. She clearly knows the topic very well, but doesn't exactly explain what she's expecting clearly enough and you're kind of left guessing and hoping for the best. Her classes seemed to be her just talking about whatever was going on in her head.
As far as niceness goes she is one of the nicest people in the world. However, her teaching skills lack enthusiasm and quality. The class put me to sleep half the time, the other half of the time I was trying to understand what she was saying. Her assignments are unclear and require too much to do. She does not make sense when it comes to work.
I have never been a huge fan when it comes to Writing but this professor made me hate it. The assignments are very repetitive and she will not tell you why you didn't get an A. It was fairly easy but she does not explain things well and she is a very self absorbed person. The grading doesn't make any sense. Avoid this class if you can.
I really couldn't stand this class for like the first half of the semester! She gets off topic pretty easily and ended up confusing me sometimes. She's definitely a tough grader, but that'll improve your writing! I now miss having her as a professor, but I expected Children's Lit to be a little more colorful.
So I am a veteran Perry Child. I had her for Expos, Childrens lit and now Adult lit. She is very hilarious but hard to understand sometimes. Ask her for help and you will get it and if you form a connection with her all the better.
She makes you work for it, but if you put the effort in you'll be fine. A little disorganized.
I'm reading a lot of mixed reviews here. It seems like her online class may be a bit confusing, however I found that her lecture classes were awesome. She's very energetic and funny. At times, she strays from the topic at hand but she always gets back to it. Turn in organized and well-written essays and you'll do great. (Class: Mythology)
Tough grader in the best way.
I didn't like her at all. First of all I bought all 8 books that were on the list, to find out we didn't use one of them. I showed up to every single class, did all my assignments, and did the best writing that I could and got a C. I participated every now and then and like I said did every assignment. But I guess she didn't like my writing.
I love professor perry. She is hilarious and kind. I excel at English, and the papers are not difficult for me. So, my opinions on grading may be skewed. I love her. Great help. Very knowledgeable. Very funny.
I took honors expository writing with Perry my first semester at FSU. She was very welcoming and cared about all of her students. I am not an English major so I was expecting to have a hard time in the class but she made it very clear on each assignment and gave great feedback. Would recommend for this class!
Hard grader, no one in my class has gotten above a B including myself. Always something wrong with your paper. Funny and great personality, just don't appreciate the teaching style.
She is one of if not the best English teacher at FSU. She is passionate and enthusiastic, and she gives great feedback on papers. She is also easy to talk to if needed.
She's awesome, really sweet and encouraging teacher, makes you feel like you're not alone!
Professor Perry was always being praised by half the campus. Even students who did not know her or take her class sang her praises. When I finally got into her classes, I was so excited and now consider her one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of learning from! She was kind, very funny, easy to talk to, and made class enjoyable.
Our entire class was so frustrated with her that we complained to someone higher up. That happened during a pandemic too when its hard enough to coordinate communication between an entire class so that should tell you something.
she always talks to us and tells us how much she cares about us, and even reaches out on individual levels. she's so engaged with us and I really feel like she loves what she does. favorite class of the semester.
She is amazing. Very sweet and helpful, would love to take a class by her again but am not sure I can. She is so caring and genuinely loves teaching and her students. I always look forward to her class and am going to miss it. She is very difficult to reach via email though, that is the only problem. She can also be super vague in general. LOVE HER
She's super funny and caring, though unlikely to respond to your emails. You'll learn cool things in her class if you pay attention and do your work. She doesn't put a ton of stuff in the grade book but she's super lenient with attendance.
Chaotic, unorganized, unclear with requirements for assignments.
This is was an all girls children's literature course and she is just to unorganized for me ugh! Every time she gave a paper out the whole class was confused! Including me, I would literally ask her to explain the paper and she would make it more confusing that it already was. In general, she's a nice person but her teaching style is horrible.
Shows up late, talks about unrelated things, has unclear/vague instructions for papers, changes the schedule without warning, has yet to actually teach us anything.
Incredibly unclear and disorganized. Every class is a struggle to understand what she is trying to convey. Hypothetically, I should have loved this course, but Perry is just unbearable. I would like to report her.
In 15 weeks, we only had about 2 hours worth of meaningful lecture. We met for 2hrs a week, but Perry always showed up10 min late. Then she would ramble for another 20. It was a small class, and we were all confused and frustrated by the lack of structure. Never stuck to her own syllabus. Discussions were not had, as she dominated the class.
Showed up 10-15 min late to every class then was 30 min late to the final exam Didnt use the books she made us buy. Didnt use class time to have discussions Assigned us a paper & didnt grade it Incredibly disorganized Technically shes easy if you can work with no direction or instruction. she didn't teach us anything.
What a waste when the professor does not respect the students time. She didn't even use the final exam period to do the actual final exam. She used it to show up late and assign another paper due that night on top of the 10 page already due. Avoid her at all costs.
If you have ADHD this class is a nightmare. Perry does not follow her own syllabus and is overcomplicates her assignments. Doesn't utilize canvas, and is also hard to communicate with. I wish I had known this ahead of time but I'm just glad this class is out of the way and I will never have to have her as a professor again.
1st class, she showed up like forty minutes late (50 min class). No syllabus designed for the first two weeks. She constantly shows up late. Disorganized; changes the syllabus constantly. Unprofessional and does not care about students' time and effort. Comes to class to rant about unrelated topics. I have not learned a single thing in this class.
Worst professor in the English department, hands down. Basically unaccessible, especially outside of class, but even during class all Perry does is off topic ramble.
Perry does a lot of off-topic rambling. Also told everyone in class she does not grade assignments... She comes to each class late and switches everything in the syllabus at least 4 times throughout the semester.
BORING BORING BORING. Ironic that someone with an advanced degree in English has abysmal communication skills. You'd think with a background in using words, she'd be effective at verbally conveying and articulating her thoughts. Instead all she did was waste everyone's time by complaining about things that weren't relevant to the course content.
She seemed to desperately want to be liked by the students despite completely lacking in charisma. Her desperation to be accepted just made me feel sad for her.
Professor Perry can be a bit disorganized, but her passion for the material is evident. unstuckstudy and the course textbook were helpful study tools that complemented her lectures. Overall, an engaging class if you stay on top of the workload.
She's walking proof that sometimes profs slip through the cracks. The stereotype that the best and brightest earn PhDs? She falsifies that. The belief that dedicated, competent profs are granted tenure? She falsifies that.
She's pretty much a Kardashian. Overinflates her own importance, capability, intelligence, and likability. Difference being at least a Kardashian is mildly entertaining
I absolutely love Dr. Perry. She is so kind and easy to talk to. The course work is very light, it's just a good amount of reading (as to be expected in a literature course). She can be a bit wacky and off-topic, but she always gets back to the important stuff. She is very willing to change assignments and deadlines if students don't like them.
Horrendously unorganized, often late to class and rambly during her lectures, does not reply to emails whatsoever. She waited until the end of the semester, after the finals period, to grade half the classes work, including the midterm, so I had to write my final without knowing how I did on my midterm. Baffling how someone like her has this job.
