Great teacher. Knowledgable. Maybe she talks fast, but she knows alot and has a lot to teach us. Tests and marking are fair. What other teacher takes the time to remark our material?
I did well in her class but of all the profs I have ever had she was the most unfair and unkind. A discredit to her profession.
She speaks way to fast and teaches a second year course as if we are graduate students. If you are an average student be prepared to work your butt off because it is as if she's trying to wean us out.

A GREAT prof I think...she's clear, helpful, and very knowledgable. Just participate in class, do your best and she's fair. Her tests are easy although she makes them out to be hard but if you actually study its fine.
Picks on and degrades certain students. Completely unprofessional and sarcastic.
Dr. Shaefer is the most condescending professor I have ever met. She will say anything to you short of calling you stupid. Sometimes she will make an effort to help you, but instead ends up degrading you. I think she's forgotten that we pay her salary.
Dr. S communicates with enthusiasm and passion for cog. psych. She loves to teach and she loves research. Her expectations of her students are high. Don't slack during lectures. Take LOTS of notes in class and study those to do well on her tests.
Like many professors, she's eccentric and changeable. But her expectations are fair and unambigous. Yes, she's opinionated, but she also relishes a good argument. Forget the knee pads, put on the boxing gloves! She'll respect you for it.
The few good reviews must be from her family. Of all the profs I've ever had she is the worst of the worst. Simply avoid her class as she has none.

I give up trying to get a good grade from Schaefer. When I compare how much I've learned from her classes to my other classes, and realize that hers are my LOWEST grades, I want to barf. GPA-****s: Dont take her. Everyone else: Just be glad she's teaching you something you might actually remember
Her lectures are very hard to follow, my notes are hard for me to even understand. However give her credit for doing study sessions out of class, she is trying to help her students to succeed.
She's an expert in her area of study - and wants you to know it too. Because of this, she is unhelpfull, rude, and condescending in both her professional life and personal life. She has a poster in her office that says, "I'll smile when I damn well feel like it". Need I say more.

Entertaining lectures. She makes an incredibly boring subject interesting. A bit more work than I'm usually willing to do, but if you put in any effort at all you'll to do fine. No surprises on the tests or assignments. She's definitely intimidating as a person, but a great prof.
talks very fast, unclear, her notes all over the place and most of all she's not interested in helping her students and therefore brushes them off to her student assistant who isn't much help either.DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! reading the textbook is enough....sometimes.

That way she talks to students is appauling. Dr. Schaefer is rude and arrogant. This woman should not be teaching. Trust me. Aviod her class at all costs. It's not about students being "dumb" or "lazy". It's about a prof that really needs to retire or get help with her personality disorder.

All her exams are multiple choice, so you basically have to guess to find the least worst answer there is, so it doesnt actually show her that you know what youre talking about no matter how hard you study. she'll kick you out if you act like an idiot, but if you think this is still highschool, and you act like it and giggle all class, get out!

Test where different then what I was use to. If your not excellent at Psy. don't take the course. Comes across as intimidated by her stundents. She is willing to help after class. Nice person if you get to know her.

DEfinately NOT a very good teacher. After the first test, she literally told me to drop out when I asekd her for a help. She yelled at me at her office because of bad mark on my assignment. She talked to me like I was a 5-year-old child. I felt VERY degraded. The course was not easy for me. I'm just not a science person. Finally I had to drop out.
I aced her class, but she was the rudest, most condescending professor you could imagine. She was consistently unhelpful, and would spit back at even the most understandable questions during your lecture. If you ask a question to clarify a point, she WILL speak to you like a 2 year old. Never mind, even 2 year olds aren't treated like that.
Excellent professor. what more can a student ask for? No complaints can be made about her. she tells you what you need to know and is extremely helpful with test and exam preperations. Also a very fair professor especially with the way she tests.

She's all over the place! Talks a million miles a minute. You CANNOT take notes while she's talking cause she jumps from one thing to the other, and back again. However, tests were easy IF u read the text book. She does have a accumalitive final exam tho.
Abrasive yet endearing personality. Free-flow thinker; wants to understand and learns along with us when people ask questions she doesn't know the answer to. Thoroughly prepared for class. Become a good note taker and pay attention well.

Excellent professor who expects a lot from students. If you want to slack off avoid her, she doesn't take pity. If you want a prof who clearly knows her stuff and is willing to teach at a university level she is excellent. Makes lectures interesting, always willing to help, but will not come to you, she clearly didn't get a phd to babysit.
Just an awful person and professor. She told people in the class to drop out. She is condesending, rude and unorganized. I asked her what we had to read (because it wasnt in the sylabus) and she wouldnt tell me. I pray that she retires so that future students do not have to know she exists.
Dr. Schaefer is a fantastic, intelligent professor who knows her stuff. She talks very fast so you have to make sure you're paying attention. Taking notes with a laptop was particularly helpful. If you are willing to meet her expectation you can get a lot from this class. Highly reccomended. SLACKERS NEED NOT APPLY

Horrible..Lied about CJ facts.. as a Criminal Justice major I couldn't stand being in her class! Said things like "A police officer doesn't physically touch a person when making an arrest! Took my test and gave it to a CJ prof to mark, because she gave me the worst mark of my life! This course is from a psychology point of view..DONT WASTE TIME
Greatly disliked her! Rude. Short with others. Very intimidating. She talks super fast, and cuts people off when they're asking a question. She encourages you to meet with her when having troubles but when you go to see her she lectures you on how much you study and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. I found it hard to retain her lectures.
Prof Schaefer was one of the best profs I've had so far. Its true she's hard and maybe even unfair on some tests, but she keeps your attention in class and knows what she's talking about when it comes to what she discussed in class. Because of her I will be continuing my studies in this field.
I have no idea why people are complaining about her. I found her to be really knowledgeable, liked the stories she told in class, and she was only hard on the students who would show up to one class/week. I think the people who are writing harsh things about her would be part of that group... I liked her so much I'm taking a 2nd course with her.
psyc and law: Isn't very clear. I felt like I didn't know what I should know while studying for a test. I like a structured course, she's the opposite. I found her rude only when students were taking some of what she taught out of context and wined about it, pretty sure that was the CJ student on here. 4 years in university, 2nd worse prof
Teaches at a rapid rate. Does not slow down for students. Teaching style is all lecture and very little interaction. Test are hard, and she does not help or care about her students. She takes the love out of persuing a degree in psychology. Do not let this professor discourage you from taking psychology courses.
Her classes seem normal and her teaching skills seem fine, until the test. The test is composed of multiple choice questions, each more bizarrely worded than the last. She forces questions that should be short answer into extremely specific multiple choice questions that can only make sense if you happen to be her.
Wouldn't recommend a class with her at all. She's knowledgeable for sure but incapable of passing on concepts to students to learn anything. Her tests are way too convoluted in what exactly the questions are asking. She really needs to work on her multiple choice questions as that is the most commonly used format for testing in Psych.
