his test are easy, as long as you read the definations in the book. but it is real hard to pay attention to him in class. he talks real mono tone and is very boaring. but goes by the book.
Prof. Hannan lectures in a dull monotone manner, & he refuses to answer questions until the end of each class.. well after he's past the subject. Honestly, the class would be better online as there is so little interaction with students.
Hannan is HORRIBLE!! He makes Psych majors wanna change majors! He is very mono tone and avoids questions at all costs. He nevers knows what he will lecture on just blahs on whatever he feels like. But I'm glad I took him test are easy...but not too easy.
He is HARD. I never could follow his lectures cause he jumps around topics from point A to point K. And his lectures are boring! I dropped his class, i just couldnt stand his monotone voice.
the test are super easy if you read all the definations in the book. make flahcards and just drill them. and you will do fine. all you need is the definations in this class to pass with an a or B. he himself is just very boaring and hard to follow during the year.
Boring! Monotone lectures & the thing he does w/ his eyebrows...gross. He relates psyc topics to his family, which is suppose to be good, but he does it in a boringly bad way.
Oh man!...run! You do not want to take this class from Hannan, he is extremely boring and no one can follow along with anything he says. It's almost impossible to get any grade besides a "D" or an "F" in this class. But...I do have to say one thing...he is a Verrrry nice man.
really boring. sucks teaching.
He knows his stuff but he doesn't know how to teach. He has no personality and fits the typical "monotone professor" image. Someone needs to call "Extreme Makeover" to liven him up. Bottom line: Frued couldn't cure my physcological boredom
As a professor I find this man average. He outlines the book for his lecture material. I think he uses good examples to let the students understand clearly what the book is trying to explain. His personality makes the class boring. But I do appreciate his organization and him following his syllabus.
Even though he is a little boring, his teaching is very thorough and he is more than willing to give you as many examples as you need.
Bring a pillow.
He knows his stuff, he's just NOT very good in teaching it in a level where his students understands him. The class is boring because his monotone. You really have to read the book and understand it yourself, cause most of the time you'll probably somewhere else, mentally, during lecture or not come
Avoid this teacher at all costs. He is a horrible teacher, most people drop this class. My advice stay clear of this teacher!!!
Difficult teacher to understand. If it weren't for the textbook I would have done poorly. I wouldn't recommend him.
Monotones guy as a lot of people have said. Very organized nice man. Extremley hard to study for tests and no homework so grade depends on those hard to take tests. Cant say i recomend him as a teacher.
dont take this class..and if you have to buy the book and study from there..he doesnt know how to teach..
He is sooo...boring!! I you have to take the class...buy the book..come to class once and awhile just to get test info... read during class... come to tests after reading and good luck!!
i like his teaching style. You just have to study the lecture notes and read the chapter and you'll do fine
I did not do good in his class, he was boring and made no sense...
Spare yourself... run for your life, head for the hills. His class is full of freshmen who don't know any better. The class is only full on test days. Do your reading, but it's best not to take the class to begin with.
Very good teacher, you will learn a lot. Grades fairly. Really cares about his students! Just listen and you will do fine, I didn’t even read the book and got a B. Everyone that is complaining about him are just slackers!
Voice so mono tone. Bad teacher, makes you fall asleep. even if you pay attention you will not learn a thing. final you have to write a essay and memorize it and write it over in a blue book on the day of the final from the top of your head without anything. really sucks

My personal recommendation is that ONLY take this class with Hannan if you are a Psych Major because he is very difficult but it is possible to succeed if you are willing to invest many studying hours. The reason I only recommend this to Psych majors becau
hes kinda boring but the subject is interesting and as long as you study the book youll do fine
AHHHHH!!! When you have to tell your students that they're only going to understand LESS than 1/2 of what he's teaching, you're a bad teacher!!!! Horrible class.
I wouldn't recommend this professor at all. Not very clear or helpful. Sometimes, I swear he'd answer a question with a ramble that didn't really pertain to the question. I didn't find him very likeable at all.
He's very monotone and he speaks just like a psychologist. It's very hard to understand. He speaks as if you are majoring in the field and that you have previous taken PSYC classes before. One thing i do like about him is that he is very understanding. If you just give him a reason, he'll understand, in terms of attendance. Other than that, i have a hard time grasping his lectures. His lectures are pretty difficult to understand, unless you keep up with your readings.
oh my goodness never take this mans class. yooh will surely fall asleep n class.you'd be better off jus readin the book
He was a great teacher. I learned so much in his class, but it wasnt easy. The concepts can be a little hard to grasp by his explinations but he tries to clarify. If you are thinking of majoring in psychology i would definately take him, he will prepare you. Tests are hard but if you study a lot you will do well.
This guy is monotone! SOO BORING! He teaches in more of a scholarly approach about concepts and theories, pretty unhelpful even for myself, a psy major. Allows 1 exam drop and curve gradescale, but still boring, not worth it, he lectures all day about stuff you can't even understand in monotone! MONOTONE!
this almost turned me away from psychology.very monotone and hard to stay awake in class.positives: everything is book based, so if u read that you'll be fine.grade consists of 4 out of 5 exams.if it's ur first psyc class, try someone else.
nice guy, but the class is just not that interesting. his lectures are straight out of the book, he doesn't really write anything on the board, and not very concise. if you take this class, you don't necessarily need to go. i just went once in a while and highlighted the stuff in the book that he mentioned in lecture.
Eh...either have a mind like a sponge and be able to translate pseudo-intellectualism into fact, read the book, or don't take the class. He grades tests ONLY (but curves them) so it helps to be a good test-taker.
Teachers okay but his class is hard and the tests are hard.
hannan really cares about teaching and it shows. the monotone voice does make a student fall straight to sleep.
He is a ver tierd man nto very exciting to listen to but he makes up for it because he goes over everything on the test before hand and he tells storiest o abck up his information. He doestnt give hw int he socialy psych class and psych 300 classes i have taken that were lecture based. Tests usualy are 50 questions in length and sometimes essay ?
boring...i dont get his teaching
His teaching style is very confusing. It seems as if he is trying to confuse you for fun.
He is not easy unless you just read the book he really does care about his students he will work with you as best he can in how he grades he doesn't want anyone to fail his class truly.
To give you an idea how bad it was...my mom had him 20 years ago and said he was boring then. He doesn't go over the info very well and all the grade is based on is tests, no extra credit and no homework.

An easy enough class to get an A in as long as you read the material. Don't rely on the lectures. He can drive you to dreamland but he's one nice professor. Gives out study guides too.
i took him at night from 7-9:50 dont do that i got a c i think if u try u can do really good but hes so boring that u dont even want to listen to him, the test arent that bad u get a study guide and u know what he expects on the final but have fun trying to spend 3 hours listening to his voice
If you are well disciplined, and listen carefully you'll do fine. He's a nice guy who's willing to help you but you just have to study.
Kinda boring. I wanted to major in psychology until I took this class. He's very smart; perhaps I just took a class with boring material anyway. I didn't read and sometimes did not go to class, but I managed a B. Pretty cool, eh?
He is veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy boring. I took his class during summer semester and it was three hours long. I had a very hard time understanding him as he goes on and on and a person can get lost quiet easily. It is very important to read the text book in this class to get a good grade.
IT IS REALLY HARD TO PAY ATTENTION IN HIS CLASS. IT IS NOT A GUIDED CLASS (NOT REALLY NO HAND OUTS OR ACTIVITIES). LECTURES MONOTONELY ALL DAY LONG. HIS TESTS ARE HARD. IF YOU DECIDE ANYWAY TO TAKE HIS CLASS, YOU HAVE TO BE DEDICATED TO READ THE BOOK. I STRUGGLED TO JUST GET A C GRADE
This instructor is very intelligent and knows his subject well. Yet, he is crazy, deranged, and down right self-centered. He lectures in his own little world and make unusual and unfunny jokes. He doesn't not assist or help students understand the material. His powerpoint lectures are useless. He test or designed around his form of thinking not the
I loved professor Hannan! He does lecture a lot and you have to take notes but he will repeat anything and everything that you need clarifcation on because he wants you to succeed. He will even read the essays you write before you turn them in and give you feedback. I didn' even buy a textbook- I just took good notes and I managed an A-. AWESOME!!
"Bud" Hannan, prefaced the class by stating there was NO structure and if we were looking for it, this wasn't the class for us. He also said that if we attended, read text, viewed videos, and wrote our final paper we could leave with a "C" or "C-". He never gave hope for more. Lectures not consistent with text. Took non-attendance personally.
Good Gracious Is he boring! His handouts are helpful But his tests are quite difficult. Its very hard to be interested in Psychology whe the person who is teaching you is boring. The videos are the only thing that got me through the classes.
hannan is soooooo BORING....he doesnt gave any lecture for the whole semester that i've attended to his class...he just talk and talk infront of the class but i didnt understand every word that coming frim his mouth..i wish there's some prof at psyc who is super ALIVE when teaching!!!jeeeezzzzz!HANNAN!!--go find another job!teaching is not for you!
I hate to say it but he is kinda boring...but for those of you that actually want to pass (and learn), then you can (despite his pessimism). A friend of mine never took any notes but got an A on the final by studying really well, and i actually learned stuff (dopamine hypothesis anyone??)...btw...fun fact: he looks like Jack Nicolson..haha
very very extremely boring teacher.. not clear at all about what he wants to lecture on..... jumps from topic to topic.... really does not care whether you pass or not... he's just there to talk about nonsense stuff..... he sounds like that clear eye dude!!!!!!!!!!do not take him if you want to learn and have an interactive class...........
Hannan is actually a really nice guy. as a person i like him alot, however as a teacher he is boring. he has one of those soothing voices that will make you fall asleep. i took a tv class so i never actually listened to his lectures. i just learned on my own by reading the book. i got a B and it wasnt hard, but i didnt learn much.
Professor'sidea of instruction is standing at the front of the class reading off page numbers. He will not allow questions, loves to hear himself talk. Does not take credit for the whole class doing poorly on tests-says that he will not "lower" his standards just for us. A "real" teacher would consider himself If entire class does poorly.
I went to class once every other week, studied the morning of an exam day, still managed to get a "C" in the course. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me. Ohh and be sure you have some expresso in your blood before lecture, you will need it.
Oh my God. This teacher is carzy and never helps out if you have trouble. He gives no homework so your grade depends on the 5 tests he does. The tests are hard and somewhat confusing. If you have trouble on Test don't take this teacher because you will fail this class. But overall nice old man but not a great techer.
hes a nice guy, but.. was boring. some subjects that i found interesting prior to taking his class werent so interesting during his lectures. he doesnt really let you know exactly what to focus on for the exams but if you mention it to him it helps A LOT because he'll actually try to break it down more. like i said, nice guy.. boring class
Avoid by all means, if you want an easy A at least. He likes to ramble, and does not tend to answer questions (again, he just rambles). Read the book and go to lectures. He likes to use his children as test questions. Exams are pretty specific, so it's not enough to just know the big picture. Honestly, it frustrates me to talk to him....
he is a horrible teacher. you can tell that he loves what he does, and knows what hes talking about, but he is HORRIBLE at communcating it to others. He is absolutely useless when you ask him questions, and practically refuses to help you outside of class, and attributes your inability to relate to the information to "information overload." b.s.
plaese dont take a psych class that MR Hannan teaches, dont get me wrong he knows his stuff, but he is not the best teacher his lectures are soo boring and he dosent care if others are talking over him he just continues as if every one is paying attenton that was so frusterating. after taking his class I chose to change major he was of no help.
he's an okay guy. The class is moderatly easy. It's just boring. If you zone in and out of the lecture, you'll still get an idea of what will be on the test because he repeats it a lot. No homework, and an easy final. The class isn't hard, just boring.
Liked the class. Pretty hard teacher. Dont really need the book, if you take really good notes and attend class, because he goes over everything in there. Hes pretty funny LOVED his trapezoid door joke HILARIOUS! Over all average teacher.
He was very hard to follow. Monotone voice did not help. Frustration - Lectures did not coincide with book. You have to devise your own study plan to pass his class or give up.
he was a good professor, but his lectures were very boring. most of the time i didn't hear what he was saying. he is a good teacher, but just not what i needed. i was very disapointed. i went into the class thinking i was gonna learn a lot, but i was wrong.
You'll be sorry. He is so boring. He doesn't care whether students attend his class or whether they walk out during his lecture as he is lecturing to himself. The only good aspect of this terribly boring class is that he grades on a curve so if many others in the class are doing poorly, you can get a decent grade. I got a B for not really trying
Sweet, mild mannered sense of humor
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! I READ THE PREVIEWS ABOUT HIM BEING BORING AND HARD AND I DIDN'T BELIEVE IT!!! THEY ARE TRUE! YOU DONT NEET A SWEET TEACHER, YOU NEED A GOOD TEACHER WHO TALKS IN ENGLISH NOT ABSTRACT PSYCHOLOGY! HIS CLASSROOM IS EMPTY MOST OF THE TIME BECAUSE STUDENTS ARE SO BORED. HIS TESTS ARE SOOOOO HARD! MOST OF MY CLASS GOT D ON THEM!!!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE!
I reccomend this professor if you enjoy long boring lectures, and hard tests he teaches at a very high level. The one good thing i can say is that he grades on a curve, he has to because without the curve he would fail about 95 % of his students
Although boring, the most noticeable aspect of his teaching is that he bounces from one topic to the next without ever fully explaining any of them. He also likes to use the phrase "we'll talk about that later" in explaining something. He does not answer questions and hates confrontation.
boring long lectures, hard test
If you like a class thats all notes/lectures/videos and no interaction, then this is it for you. I have some friends like this and I would recommend him to them. Very passable class if you read the book before you come to lecture like he tells you to. I should warn you though: very boring.
I can't believe he's still teaching there. Oh, wait, I can. He can't get fired, he's tenured. At any rate, the worst class I've taken and everyone else I've spoken to agrees. Monotone, unclear, lectures leave no room for questions, hates answering questions anyway, and thinks Philip Zimbardo is god. Google Zimbardo, he's a nutjob. Perfect together.
omg hes a nightmare!
No homework, only exams on chapters from text book. Its all lecture... just covers what you read from the text. To me the class was the easiest... i studied day before exam and still got an A in class... which i never attended...(was an interactive television course which i called in for attendance and then left)
All you have to do is read the book, come to class and take the exam. He only talks about the book. Would've been the easiest class I've ever taken if I had purchased the book earlier. I had no book for the first couple weeks.
WORSE THEN THE CLEAR EYES GUY! SERIOUSLY! I had 2 drop this class 2 weeks into it. So boring doesn't like questions!!! HIGHLY suggest you DO NOT TAKE HIM EVER!!
I used to love psychology until I took his class.
Mr. Hannan doesn't really know how to explain things well. There is no class work, all you do is listen to the lectures and then take the exams. The only time I really understood what was going on and comprehended was when he would play a movie... this was a big disappointment to me because I thought I might want to major in psychology.
He talked way too much. He talks down to students as if they are stupid. I really enjoyed and was fascinated by psychology before his class, im not going to let one bad seed ruin it! I dont recommend taking his class especially in the evening.
He talks to much and taking notes is useless. If you want to pass this class, you have to read the book and memorize it.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!
I really liked this teacher. I learned a lot; he really knows his stuff.
this had to be the worst teacher ive ever had! if you want to waist an hour and 20 mins 2 times a week then take this professor!
No homework, all exams straight from the text book. He does not require you to attend regularly so I found that I did better on my exams when I didn't go to class and just memorized the book material.
I took this class and was very anxious about it until he started lecturing. He wasn't very clear and would sometimes get off on a tangent. He tests on the text by chapter but gives a detailed study guide before hand. He just doesn't have very good speaking/lecturing abilities.
This guy is weird! I didn't learned one thing, and his tests are ridiculous! They are easy to pass, but when this guy lectures it's like he's reading from the book, in fact some of his lectures he did that! He sucks, don't take this class if you like Psychology, he'll ruin it for you!
Seriously I wanted to major in psychology and after taking his class I'm second guessing wether or not I would still like to!!! He sucks I cant stand sitting through his lectures. I have his class one day a week for 3 hours. I would highly suggest not taking him. There hasn't been one A in our class yet I dont even think there has been a B.
This teacher talks like the "Clear Eye" guy on the commercial. He rambles all through his lectures which makes it hard to stay awake in class. The material is uninteresting, and boring. Pick another psych teacher. Don't go thru the hassle!
It's true his class is very boring BUT he is very nice and helpful. His lecture are basically from the book and tests are based on online quizzes so you'll pass as long as you'll do the online quizzes and write out the essay for the test beforehand. His class isn't hard to pass as long as you read the book.
He is very boring and his tests are ridiculous! Take another professor if you want to enjoy psyc cuz you are going to fall asleep in his class!
His priority seems to be getting you to get a good grade on his tests instead of actually teaching. Doesn't seem to plan his lessons, either. Uses pre-made powerpoint that follows the book exactly. Monotonous voice, not good in the early morning. Tests almost exactly taken from online quizzes. Easy to get a good grade in, but u won't learn anything
O MY GOD!!! i thought i was alone with how i felt about this tacher. he is the worst professor i had in history, it is impossibl to get a decent grade in his course and im a honor roll student. Dont take his class if you care about your GPA!
Average Professor, nothing too horrible to say about him, but is definitely an uninspiring individual. I Have a B.A. in Psychology and have known better professors.
I didnt feel this teacher really cared wether or not we got the subject matter. He seemed more interested in the sound of his own words. He never would answer questions unless you were an idiot. He seemed to not want to be challenged by those who wanted to actually understand the material in an abstract way. He made rude comments about our question
I'm a good student, but this was a very challenging class. He's a little hard to follow, but that might be because there's so much information to cover. You definitely have to be dedicated to learning on your own. The tests were multiple choice, so that's not too bad.
Worst teacher I ever had ..
All I can say about Hannan's class is... If you are easily bored, on a full sem schedule or want an easy grade and are not a linguist, stay away. He is very excited about psychology and it seems like he knows it so well its almost hard to explain to the rest of us. Tests require a lot of studying and class take serious dedication.
I took this class over the summer, and that was clearly a huge mistake. Professor just loves to talk, tests are pretty hard too even though they are multiple choice. Stay clear if your looking for an easy class, no homework but tons of reading to do.
I took this class over the summer too, and it was tough. But his grades were curved and unless you put zero effort into studying you should of received a decent grade. I did not think he was SO... bad, but he made you work for those credits.
I liked his lectures, it made it easy to remember ?s on the tests, need to read book also. He tells you what you need to study before tests, it really helps with the essays. No homework! He did say his other classes were harder. If you did well on all your tests, you don't have to take the final exam for this class or he drops the lowest grade.
If you dont want to be constantly looking at the clock praying this class will be over..dont take it. extreamly boring.im sure he tries and is nice..but its just BORING. you also have to read lots.
I am really interested in psychology but if all psyc classes are like this one, then I don't think I'm going to make it. He knows what he's talking about but it's really hard to put it together because it feels like he is all over the place. You have to read the book really well bc the test could cover anything, even if he breifly mentions it.
A bit boring at times, but relatively clear lecturer. He doesn't have class discussions, which is a shame, given the subject matter. Does good test review and as long as you keep current with the reading and pay attention, you should pass without any problem.
This is a very hard class. Very boring. and lectures are hard to undersatnd. Advice: dont take him. Tips on how to pass with a C by midterms: Try to write what you can in his lectures. Read the book and self teach yourself. Tests are curbed. Do as best as you can on the tests. And good luck if u take this class.
OMG, if you've reached this page, run as fast as you can. Ive taken chemistry and other hard classes and this seems to be the hardest class that mankind has ever had to offer (im dead serious). I got through more than half of the semester knowing no more than what I did before I entered the class. Theres no class discussion nor homework. RUUUUUNN!
IF YOU LIKE SLEPPING THEN THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU! This guy is extremely boring, you can barely comprehend his lectures, and the tests are so hard that he always has to curve them. i got an average of 20 out of 50 on the tests even after studying for hours, and my average grade came out to be a C. I caught up on a TON of sleep in this class!
You would of think that as a teacher when you see majority of the class gets d's and f's on tests, that it has something to reflect your teaching style. Not Mr. Hannan. He just think he is a hot shot professor. He has an ego. If mr. hannan is reading this, please wake up. No body understands more than ten% of wat u are saying. Please cahnge ur ways
I don't know why many people are complaining...it is NOT hard if you keep up with the reading. I took this class in summer 09. Although the class is boring, but he shows some videos which makes the class fun and interested:)
He uses big Psychology words/terms from the first class so, he's not easy to understand. I say attendance is mandatory because you will need the class time and at home study time to pass this class.
Not good
very nice, but talks very fast and uses big terms which makes his lecture very confusing. tells us to read the book but does not cover anything in it. seems like we need to read the book to understand him when is should be the other way around. if not then you are sure to fail. i honestly sit there and dont have a clue what this guy is saying.
Worst teacher ever. Makes no sense and just uses his own views for examples. His exams are on what his lectures are about, yet you don't understand a word he says.
HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I took his class over summer because I thought it would be easy, but not with this teacher! His lectures don't even relate to the subject matter. He curves the test which is good so when you get an F youre actually getting a C. He probably has one of the highest drop rates. Do not take him! You will regret it!
There's one word to describe his teaching style. It's bad. Everything everyone says about him is true. He cant teach at all. His lectures is practically incmprehesible. He uses big words. he dosent spell it out for you. And yet he expects u to get it
Extremely boring. I had to drop the class becuase I did not feel I was actually learning anything from the lectures that I didn't read in the book.
RUN!RUN AWAY FROM HIM!
Teacher is very knowledgeable in reguards to the information he's teaching, yet does not know how to teach. He's nice, but very boring and not very helpful. Grades only on Exams, final, and Essay Exam. Essay Exam is pretty much laid out for you and is very easy. Not recommended if you don't comprehend very easily.
He just talks, rarely, I mean rarely does he write anything down. You have to listen and write to what he says and he talks the whole period. The tests are mostly based off of his lectures and he drops one test. He gives you the outline for the final. He is a hard teacher and really hard to sit and listen to his lectures. A very hard class.
OMG!! I read other reviews before going into his class not expecting much...but yeah everyone is right! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!...he's the type of teacher that shud not be teaching...
VERY VERY VERY boring. I don't even pay attention in class. Made the mistake of skipping a test (we were allowed to drop our lowest test score) and ended up with a B in the class. It's a good idea to pay attention to his lectures and the videos because there are usually questions from them on the test.
He sucks we had a exam today which i recall him saying we can use our notecards and come to find out we couldnt i could have killed him .. his lectures are pointless they dont make sense what so ever and he has a hot potato type teaching method he always hops from one subject to another DONT take his class !!
I took Hannan's summer course and while he does talk alot and rarely writes things down, if you read the chapters before class, what he says makes sense. I did the reading and I stayed for his lectures and I got an A. He may be boring, but he knows what hes talking about. If your willing to put in the work hes a great teacher.
I HAVE NOT GONE THROUGH A SINGLE CLASS DAY WITHOUT FALLING ASLEEP IN THIS CLASS!! I HATE IT SOO MUCH! Everything he says goes in one ear and out the other. Total waste of time being there!
What everyone says is true: this guy loves to talk. Not only does he not write things down, he rarely answers student questions (heaven forbid someone else do the talking). I highly recommend paying attention to videos and reading the book. Thank god he grades on a curve!
Hannan, Great guy, but he is a little out there.. His classes is boring, and well it just looks like everyone is falling asleep in there, trust if you are going to take this class, read the book, and tape his lectures, cause you will get lost... Its all mono-logy and well thats just what it is... If you are to take his class, I feel for you.
So the class is easy if you do the online quizes and find out what the essay will be on and just take notes on that. but he is soooo boring and weird. i feel like going to class is totally pointless becaseu he jsut reads off a powerpoint that he also posts online. totally pointless class!
Please do not take his class. His lectures are super boring, very confusing teacher, and his exam are ridiculous hard!!! he hands out study guides which is useless because none will be on the test. horrible teacher.
I never understand what he's talking about. He jumps from one point to another. He uses big terms & he doesn't write anything down. The book is more comprehensible. It feels more like an advanced course than an intro. He has a high drop rate & his lectures are boring. You have to fully understand the concepts to pass his exams. Memorization won't cut it.
he was pretty coo
His class is hard-no homework or assignments, only take exams. This prof. talks psych language. It's a beginning psych class but he acts as if we all know what hes talking about already. Also, he can talk, talk, talk-he never allow anyone to answer questions during class time. Im taking psyc300 1 day/3hr class and he doesn't even give us a break.
I took PSYCH300 as an AP course in high school, didn't take the AP test though. Aced all the tests then. Barely passed his tests by missing more than half the questions. He has a ridiculous curve though. I have him in a 3 hour course and it's horrible. More than half the class dropped, maybe ten people by the end of class. Don't take this class.
HARD, NOT EASY TO UNDERSTAND, BORING
He has a monotone voice so its help u to fall a sleep easily. His class is very boring yet if u are interesting in this subject he could be a good prof. Read the whole book and do the tests! THEY ARE HARD!!! Final is a ridiculous written essay plus last 2 chapters. Well dont talk him if u dont want a C!!!
he is a nice teacher but his teaching is awful. He talks about one little thing over and over throughout the whole class. You only learn from the book. When you have a question in class he wont even answer it. I would keep my arm in the air for 20 mins and he would just ignore me. I am a pysch major and he made it so boring. DON'T TAKE HIM not wort
His teaching method is hard. He reads straight from the book. I studied non stop and recieved a C. His lectures are very boring and im not even sure where he gets his test questions. Overall a complicated class.
Got an A in this easy class. Don't attend class, it's a waste of time. Just study the book and come on exam days. Use the time not in class to **** or something.
He is not really helpful, constently talking as if you have been in the field for years, doesn't help a beginner class. He really does lecture for 4 hours straight without a break.
VERY VERY VERY BORING. Do not take this class if you want to be put to sleep. He is not very helpful when it comes to questions and he talks to the class as if they all understand what every word means. so not a class that beginners should take.
I am disappointed to see all the negative reviews given to Mr. Hannan. I took his General Psychology and Human Behavior classes years ago and was very satisfied. I am currently completing a master's degree in psychology and am still using the fundamentals I learned in his classes. Students must realize that Good grades are earned not given.
His chapter tests were literally questions from the online chapter quizzes, and use the notes on the essay portion, and you'll get an A. i did NOT learn anything from his class and his class was absolutely BORING. He lectures from his powerpoint, but you can access them online. I should've got an A but the final scrwed me over
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Seriously he's totally boring..He will make you change your major because he's so boring. Don't even bother showing up to class because he'll put you to sleep. But on a positive note the tests are pretty easy if you just read the book and look on the study guide he gives you.
Talks in monotone. He gives a curved grade which means basically the difficulty depends on if your classmates do well or not. I got a 30/50 on first test and had an A on it because no one was serious at the time. Near the end a 30/50 was a C or D because everyone was serious. Teacher sucks only thing helpful was study guides that you MUST memorize.
I took two psych classes (intro to psych and social psych) from Proff. Hannon and found that the classes were easy because he tells you exactly what the exams/essays will be on and makes it clear what to study. I believe he is knowledgable in the subject and genuinely wants his students to succeed. I would tale another class from him at anytime.
He is a sweet man, but that doesnt help in the classrom. He speaks as though we all have a Doc, in Psyc. Dumb it down and it would be great. When he gives exampples from life, I was into it, past that, the book will teach more than he. STAY AWAKE!!
Hannan is pretty fair on his tests and the study guides that he hands out, just being in the class and actually focusing on what he says is difficult because his voice is so monotone.
Very nice teacher but just class lectures will put you to sleep the tests are hard and final you have to memorize practically every handout... Class is pointless unless your able to stand the whole period of him talking talking talking with no interaction among other students
HORRIBLE class! I wish I would of dropped out sooner. All he does in class is lecture, lecture, lecture & talk about his kids. The lectures itself are boring, YOU WILL FALL ASLEEP. He does not intereact with the students whatsoever. If you want to actually pass the class, dot attend the class and just READ THE BOOK. Going to his class is useless
I wish I hadnt taken this class. He is the most boring teacher I have ever met. I struggled to pay attention in every lecture he gave. The grade you will most likely get is a C because everything he lectures is NOT on the tests. The final exam is basically all of the handouts he gives you. The only upside to this class is watching everyone sleep.
Hannan seems like a great guy, but he is very, very boring. I'm so glad I got a C in his class so I won't have to take it again. I don't hate the guy, I just find that his class might only be good for people who love Psychology.
He knows his stuff that's for certain. The part that I struggled with was his relying of the info. He speaks as though we all have a DOC in the subject. Just dumb it down and I would have gotten a B rather than the C. Interesting class, just not for me
Very Dry and BORING... whatever you do, do not take this class.
This (summer) class was not academically stimulating at all... Lectures were dry. He seriously lectured for 3 hours straight with no breaks. To do well in the class, just read the book and memorize vocabulary words and study guides he gives you. There were 4 mc exams and for the final, there was a mc portion as well as a final in-class essay.
Attend class for attendance points and know the study guide, and you will pass. His class is basically a study hall where i just do all my other homework. he is by far the most boring teacher i have had.
Not clear at all during lecture. Examples he uses are poorly explained and irrelevant to today's youth. Reading the textbook is a must, don't expect much clarity coming from lecture on topics of interest. The class isn't too hard, but the trick is staying awake; worse than death by powerpoint.
Worst teacher ever. Lectures are boring, he likes to talk about his family the whole entire class and doesn't make sense most of the time. If you are interested in psychology do not take his class, you'll end up changing your major for sure. Everyone leaves his class after signing in, thats how bad it is.
This is by far the best teacher I've had. I struggle with falling asleep, but in just 15 minutes, I'm out. This guy is good.
He is a a great guy, and a personality. But not a good teacher. But one of the nicest Professors I have. My advice is, read the book, his handouts, and memorize the Vocab, and make flash cards, then you'll be okay. Do not pay attention to his lectures. Its wasting time.
It's my first semester at CRC and by far he is the most boring and dry professor I've ever had. Nice guy, sure - but not very great. I sit in the front rows of his M&W classes and I'm sort of failing... not fun, cool, or worth it. Hard exams, hard to follow lectures, half empty classes.
This professor is so nice, and his classes are some of the easiest I've taken. If you read the book and listen to what he is saying then you should do fine. He states over and over again what is going to be on the test, so you shouldn't ever be unprepared. He actually has good stories if you listen to him. :P
By far, the worst professor I've EVER had, do not take his class. Seems to be very knowledgeable in his field, however, he lectures as if we all have docs in psyc. Very unclear & monotone lectures that will put you to sleep; coffee doesn't help. Just read the book and teach yourself, paying attention to lecture will do nothing, attendance counts.
Worst professor I've had, don't take his class if you can avoid it. Seems to be very knowledgeable in his field, however, lectures as if we all have docs in psyc. Very unclear & monotone lectures that will put you to sleep; coffee doesn't help. Just read the book and teach yourself, paying attention to lecture won't help, attendance counts.
Hannan is a good guy. If you do not find psychology interesting do not take this class. It will put you to sleep. He is very knowledgeable but can be confusing. Its not a personality contest. I am here to learn and he does a good job teaching.
Nice guy and knowledgeable, but I challenge you to sit through an entire class. He doesn't lecture off of notes or any type of structure, leading him to ramble and change topics constantly, which is confusing. Tests are ridiculous, and are "Which answer is the MOST correct" type. He has done the impossible and made a fascinating subject torture.
He's not that bad.I ended up with an A in his class, but then again I took AP psychology in High School and scored a 5.
Not very helpful. Goes around your question so he doesn't have to answer it. also Rambles on and on for the whole time of the class. Test have nothing to do with the lectures only based on the book.
This class is P E Z . Just take the class..I pass this class with A 98%. Yep
By far one of my most boring teachers. I loved psychology and was very interested in the subject, but he made it very boring. Very confusing during his lectures. Don't take his class unless you have insomnia, perfect place to sleep
BORING! I am an honor student..I studied everyday and try to listen and comprehend lecture but his test is just rediculous. I have B- . Very nice guy but teacher wise? No
Im currently in his class. It's very confusing the way he explains material, and when asked a question he completely rambles off and ignores your initial question. Boring lectures!! Beware his lectures will either make you want to fall asleep or give you a headache!
Lectures are boring, and very difficult to understand, I'd rather read the textbook
Very nice teacher. Lectures are confusing and boring. Study powerpoint slides and online quizzes and you will do good on multiple choice test part. Take notes for essay part of tests.
He did not interact with the students at all. Also he was very monotone which makes it hard to stay interested. He doesn't care if you show up to class at all. If you don't read the book of like a million pages you WON'T pass! The only good thing I have to say is that he had a good review for the final. IT was a difficult class to pass.
If you are willing to take this behemoth of a class, you will come out a better person. The professor is tough.. VERY TOUGH. There is no homework he requires from you, BUT you have to keep up with the reading. All points come from tests (5 with one drop), a final and a essay at the end worth 20%. If you are a pay major, take him. If not, avoid!
This professor has no creativity. All of his lectures are the ones provided by the textbook and all of his test questions are those provided by the online textbook. There is absolutely no reason to go to this class because he never says anything of value. By far the worst professor I have ever had.
Thiiiis guy is something else. EXTREMELY hard to understand. I only went to class so I didn't miss any hand outs and I would just study for his class during his lectures. And do not ask for help. he will start talking and talking and youll get more confused. Nice guy, but way too smart to be teaching 300
Don't do it. Very very dry and boring. Confusing lectures and lots of ADD off topic moments. Hardest class to stay awake in. Attendance is done with a sign in sheet. Go or don't go. He doesn't care. He is passionate about his subject. He knows his stuff but talks as if we have PhD degrees. Pick a different class.
He's a great guy but for reasons I can't put my finger on his lectures are impossible to follow. More than half the class dropped before the semester was half over. My advice: bring your book to class and make notesflashcards in there. I usually study half-assed and get a B+ on the tests (with the curve; the rest of the class seems to do poorly)
I advise you to not take this class. he is a great guy and extremely nice, but he just doesn't make any sense. He has a tough grading scale when it comes to essays, so you MUST take great notes. in order to pass, take the online quizez and study his power points.
Very nice and cool guy, but lectures were hard to follow with and the chapters in each book were super long that you'd have to study 2 weeks ahead of time for the exams. I attended every class and did note cards for all of the exams (until i withdrew), of every key term and still did not do too well. The same went with others too.
Had him for Intro and Social Psych. He has virtually no experience in the field. He makes up his own terms. BORING. Unnecessarily uses big words to seem smart. Goes off on tangents. CRIES IN CLASS. Poorly written textbook that only he uses. 28140 people stayed in class. I would have failed had I not known some of the material. DROP HIS CLASS
This is a good class if you have insomnia. If his lecture doesn't put you to sleep, then I don't know what will. Sign in sheet for attendance, no homework or term papers. Just 3 test, but beware, very hard! Book is a must because you are NOT going to understand anything from his lectures, and make sure to read the handouts
Hannan is a BORING professor and I got a D on all my exams and there is a essay and 50 question multiple choice for the final and studying for it was pointless.
Not hard if you learn the subject at home.
Hard, unable to understand his lecture
without a doubt worst professor I've ever had. i know he's ready these reviews because he often makes remarks passing the blaim of a failed grade to the student. heres a thought mr. hannan as your clearly so big on research. taking the very large acccumolation of bad reviews maybe its your teaching that isn't "most excellent" please retire!
Loved his lectures. He gave the best essay writing advice than any English professor I had ever taken--just keep writing (write and rewrite) until your hand knows it! Made my final easy to pass. Read, study, write, and you get a good grade. He deserves better credit than he is given.
Good
Good teacher
Took class over the summer for 5 weeks. Full time student. Got an A. Had to study off book. His lectures were difficult to follow for reasons other people here mentioned. If you decide to take his class, then I suggest read the book, understand it, take your own notes while you read, and you WILL pass. Build up good study habits.
In respect worst professor I ever had!! i could not sit there hearing him lecture for two hours straight it's just boring and a waste of time. Expect some hard exams coming your way and the final will be the worst of your worries cause there will be an essay that goes with it. Six weeks of this class during the summer. Don't even waste it on this!
He just talks, talks, and talks, which is what most professor's lectures are all about, but his lectures are long and usually swerve off topic. He expects you to read and understand the textbook on your own. Ask for help and he'll most likely just look the other way. If you are capable of learning independently on your own then only you'll make it.
Good teacher, but you need to study at home the topic and you will pass with A.
Great teacher. All you have to do is to be present in class and study. He is easy if you study.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He never stops talking and is usually off topic for a good portion of the discussion. I suffered through his summer course and ended with a B. You never know your grade until the course is over and he refuses to answer questions or help you out in any way. Avoid him at all costs or spend hours teaching yourself.
He's a bit old fashion but he's a great professor. You'll need to read the text book.
Such a nice teacher and loves the field he is in, but lacks structure. his lectures are all over the place and half the time don't tie into what he is teaching. he never has power points to go off of when he talks so you literally listen to him just talk about psychology for the whole class. if he could fix lectures he would be great.
Before taking this class I didn't believe in this website After about a month of boring lectures and not knowing anything of what he was saying I decided to check this website, no surprise he doesn't have a good review. I decided to push it through anyways; bad decision. only take the class if it's your only choice and you are able to teach yoursel
I am hanging on the edge of the cliff here. Semester is almost over and everyday I dread going to this class. Lectures are so boring, study guides are useless thus exams are difficult, and nothing makes sense. Textbook is useful, but doesn't help much. Not the best professor for teaching.
READ, STUDY!
Professor Hannan was a tough person to grade, as a person, he is great. As a professor, it was rough. His voice is very soft and monotone and his lectures are very long, the information was great and he gave you the told you need to succeed, you just have to remember to use them.
The grades consist of only tests and a in-class essay so if you do poorly in the tests you won't pass. Lectures are long and the tests are usually from the book. Read and study and you should do fine. He also curves the tests slightly and will drop your lowest. Work for that A!
No doubt about it, Prof Hannan has high expectations for an A. However, if you are a psych major and really want a strong foundation to build your academic career on, then this is the instructor you want. Not only will you be fully prepared for higher level psych courses but you will improve your essay skills for other classes. Glad I had him!
Study Guide makes no sense and only certain terms on the study guide are on the actual test and you don't even know which ones. Study Overload. His lectures have nothing to do with Psychology. He talk about things that he saw on the news, idk how that has to do with what i came here to learn but okay.
Although he can get a little off topic, it's actually really fascinating information and if Psychology is actually an interest of yours, you'll love his class. He thoroughly prepares you for the tests and it feels like he actually wants you to succeed. Although he has vast knowledge in the field he still respects his students. #favclass
REALLY IMPORTANT: If you are considering becoming a psychology major do NOT take his class. There are so many wonderful psyc professors, so don't let him discourage you. This is the only psyc class I did not receive an A in, I got a C. Reviews are horrible - nothing on them is on the test. Read the book & teach yourself. No one ever attended class.
All in all, it's clear that he knows his stuff but I think that he just doesn't know how to dumb it down. Goes off on tangents that may leave you confused. Gives you study guides and expects you to know the textbook definition, not your own perception. Exams are hard but he'll take your worst exam off final grade.
For me the content of the class was hard and I enjoy Psychology. He does some things to help. For example, you take 5 exams and he drops your lowest exam score and he curves the tests. However most scores are B's and C's. You have to read the textbook but the study is more important,if you don't memorize the whole study guide you'll fail the exam.
Awful. You will have a hard time in his class. He doesn't really reach out to students for help. I did horrible on his tests and the book didn't help that much. He doesn't offer an extra credit and is boirng. If you don't study you'll fail.
The teaching style that he teaches is very bad. I suggest you guys to not take him. I don't even understand what he's talking about most of the time. Do not waste your time.
Will automatically "assume" you have read the textbook material coming into class. Does not care if you don't have the required book. Goes on forever with lectures and uses analogies that don't make any sense whatsoever.
I took his abnormal and general psych class and I studied 3 hours 5 nights out of the week in preparation for the exams and written essays and I could only manage to get a C- and D average in both of the classes. His tests are written in such a way that makes them really hard to understand and answer. Dropped both his classes mid way.
This class was honestly so easy. You read the chapters, and study the terms he gives on the study guide. Anything on the study guide and not covered in the textbook, he will go over in class. Test are out of 50 and I've never gotten lower than 43. Essay criteria is super clear and you know exactly what he expects on every test.
Pay attention to lecture, take notes, and brush up on your terms. He's a little "goofy" and gets off topic easily but just get him back to the point. I didn't purchase the book, and just studied the study guides, terms and certain models online and somehow passed. He has good info to give if you're willing to pay attention.
Do not take if you have no psychology background;he assumes you already know psychology abbreviations/terms. I found his lectures very hard to understand. He gives no homework & doesn't care how late you are but he hates hearing cellphones ring(he stops his whole lecture and stares at you till you turn it off). He only grades attendance and 4 tests
This professor is really hard. I've have no pyschology background and he has had me confused since the beginning of the semester. The book for the class has so much information so it's hard to read it, he expects you to have the chapter read before class starts. Uses no slides no notes. Just stands up there and lectures. Horrible.
This was my first psych class and he made it extremely difficult from the start. He taught us like we had been learning psych for years. Also your grade relies on exams and that's all. I wouldn't recommend his class unless you're really good at psych.
I'm currently taking his class and he's a nice guy and very smart... downside to that is that he talks to a beginners level psych class like we're 4 years into a psych major. Upside, he doesn't ask much from you other than to study hard to do well on test. (Duh) he doesn't give HW which is nice. He does give very clear study guides which help tons!
He talks the entire class period and usually ends up off topic. He doesn't assign homework. Gives study guides for the tests, you have to make sure you study those thoroughly or else you won't pass. Essay due at the end of the semester but he basically told us what to write.
He expects you to already know the terms of psychology. This is an introduction class! I have no psychology background. He made this class too difficult for me!
Extremely boring and doesn't care if you're late. Overall i think it's an easy class if you study the material given to you and read the assigned chapters for the exams. It's not too hard to pass if you put in generous hours of study time.. He is goofy and makes jokes and puns that no one laughs at .except him which is funny itself lol.
Took the 6 weeks summer course. It was demanding if you want an A! You MUST read textbook as exam questions are specific to the readings, videos (hence attendance is required), and case studies mentioned in class. Grades are based on 4 best exam scores out of 5 and a final essay. The expectation for the essay is clearly outlined.
One of the worst classes I have ever had to sit through. If you want to do well then don't bother paying attention to lecture. You would be better off reading the textbook in the middle of class to learn.
This was my first year of college in 10 years. I LOVED IT!! Hannan is clearly super passionate about teaching and I love his jokes. I really think the class is all about listening... If you are unable to write short hand you may want to record. I think his tests are difficult but only because you have to think and apply not just remember info. :)
He talks to the class as if you already know everything and just rambles. You will need to put in a lot of hours of reading the book and power-points and watch all the videos to score well on the tests.
I'm currently taking his social psychology class & he is not very good with engaging the class. You're more likely focusing on trying to keep yourself awake or even trying to focus in general because he loses the class easily. All he does is talk, would I recommend to take his class? No. Good luck with tests! Make sure to read!
Trust me, you'll be better off using class time to take your own notes from the textbook than sitting there trying to take notes of his own lecture.
Professor Hannan is a good professor if youre an audio learner. Being kinesthetic it was hard for me to grasp the materials in class. Theres no homework to cushion your grade and exams are 75% of your total grade. This class is an easy fail if you dont show up to the class.
TAKE HIM
Would not take again, 5 exams that are 100% of your grade. If you dont mind drifting off for 1 and 1/2 hrs then reading the text book on your own time you should be fine. He is not hard per say, but not engaging or interesting. I did well because I find Psych cool, but if you dont steer clear.
he tells you straight off that bat that he wont teach you what's on the test and that you have to read the textbook instead. youre better off using class time to take notes from the book than to listen to his tangents for an hour and a half
Unknowing of how to properly teach Im starting to think professor at CRC just dont like teaching there or for some reason are not good with people, the attitudes and lack of use to shed knowledge that we originally signed up to learn. Its like there on there last leg and just don't really care but I'll pray for you to pass if you do take class.
The professor seemed disinterested in teaching. Engaging with the material and using study tools like unstuckstudy AI were key to passing the class. Overall, a tough experience, but manageable with hard work.
