Really good class. Didn't know he was the director untill I took the first test
uses farside & calvin comics... but makes you buy his book, you dont even use it
Really good prof with and incredibly dry (but funny) sense of humore - shows video clips from movies like Wayne's World to start off each class.

Thought is was a little difficult, but he supplies extra credit. His humor is awesome and his book is actually a really interesting read. I want to read his next book. Not bad for a required read. He's so nice and so awesome. No joke.
VERY nice professor..I have a hard time staying awake in his class but that's just me. He tells interesting stories sometimes and the extra credit he offers is overwhelming
Prof. Worthington cracks me up! He is corny, yes, but his jokes and stories still brighten my day, nonetheless. As long as you keep up with the work (labs, experiments, etc) and study, you should do fine. I definitely recommend him. He makes the class fun
Took him for intro, and he made me want to study psyc. Now I have graduated, and am starting on my PhD. Hope I can be half as good as a teacher!
He has to be one of the best professors at VCU. I read his book, and it was helpful. Lectures are full of info but were fun too. He is super nice too. He really wants you to succeed.
Had so much fun in his class. He has some awesome jokes. I thought tests were a bit hard but with the amount of extra credit he offers anyone can get a good grade. His book was worth reading too. Learned some good things from him especially his book.
superb
he is very funny!!!
good professor, tries to make class interesting. definitely recommended.
Fun examples in class. Interactive with students.
Pretty easy, tons of extra credit options and really interactive with his students. Definitely recommend him.
ONE OF THE SMARTEST MEN ALIVE. ANY STUDENT WOULD BE PROUD TO HAVE HIM AS A PROFESSOR!!!!
Despite the corny jokes, the class is thoroughly enjoyable. An easy A.
I thought he was pretty good. His tests were not easy but I went to his study sessions and he gave you what was exactly on the tests. Lots of EC available. A bit of a holy roller though. Talks about prayer way too much.
Great Teacher- funny in a corny way.
If you are going to take Psych at VCU, you have to get Worthington. He is amazing and entertaining, and just damn good at what he does. I actually looked forward to his class.
He was one of the best professors that I have come across at VCU.He tries to help you receive a good grade. He knows what he's talking about, one of the smartest professors here.
Really corny and has pretty dumb jokes, but still funny in a cute way. He reads directly from powerpoint so it gets pretty boring pretty fast. His tests were ridiculous and he never gave any idea as to what he really was testing on. Very boring, good luck staying awake. Half the class dropped.
Unless you are masochistic to the extreme, you do not want to take 101 from this guy.
Worthington is awesome! His lectures are interesting and he is a great speaker who moves around the classroom and keeps your attention. The class is fairly easy to do well in: just read! If you read and listen in class, the tests are simple. He is a very nice guy and offers a lot of extra credit! I highly recommend him!
Very boring and hard! Test's even harder! Let's you use a note card but it doesn't help i don't recomend him.
Really great teacher. Very interesting and knowledgable about what he does. Hes renowned in his area and knows everything about everything. Corny jokes but if you want a laid back listen hes the one to go to. Read the book and take notes. Tests are a hard A but with studying the EC makes up for it all.
great teacher, tests are pretty hard, but he gives a lot of extra credit, the average student should do fine.
Positive Psyc. BEST CLASS EVER! his test are pretty challenging but definitely not horrible. he tells you exactly what chapters to read, alot of reading. but the class was sooo much fun and interesting. this was an 8am class too! wished he taught everyone of my classes
He was a great professor. The tests weren't that easy, but as long as you keep up with the journal and do a good job on the book report you'll do fine. He also gives out LOTS of extra credit. I definitely recommend him
Brilliant teacher. The lectures are fun. I don't think anyone could sit through them and NOT laugh. Tests are very hard but he gives a lot of extra credit. Labs are also easy but you forget to do them or you're pretty much throwing away easy 10 points.
AMAZING TEACHER! Whoever says he is boring obviously has NO sense of humor. Just GO TO CLASS, you'll figure out everything that is on the exam, and you get to use a notecard on all exams except final which is pretty helpfull. His exams are pretty hard but he gives you SOOOOO much extra credit. Also DO THE LABS!!! Great teacher!
TAKE HIS CLASS!! especially if you have to take psyc 101. i thought he was awesome! hes so funny! the tests are hard, but he is willing to help you out! there is so much extra credit as well! do all of the extra credit and you will be fine!
One of the best professors I have ever had. Class is actually enjoyable because he makes sure it is. Great guy that is extremely well rounded in the subject, if not one of the best I've seen. Tests are hard but if you listen in class, read the chapters, and make an extensive notecard an A is not too hard. TONS of extra credit
A true scholar. Dr. Worthington grabs your attention and keeps you on the edge of your seat with every lecture-just make sure you go to class and take notes! Only take his class if you are interested in learning. His lectures are invaluable and his teaching method is incomparable. One of VCU's greatest professors.
hes soo funny! i loved him. he always had great stories to go with lectures. listen to these stories..not only for fun...but because they appear on exams!! overall GREAT PROFESSOR.
He is a GREAT professor. I attended every class because he truly made every lecture interesting, and humorous. He likes what he teaches, and it shows. There are TONS of extra credit, but I didn't do any of them and still got an A. Study the chapters in the book, and take good notes and you should do fine. I loved this class.
We've had some REALLY good laughs in that class. Worthington is a great spirited guy, except the material is difficult.
Took him for Positive Psychology and absolutely loved it. The tests are hard but he warns of that and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities like attendance checks and a book project which is worth 35 points. A lot of work for this class but it is worth it and his class lectures are really funny. Definitely worth taking.
Nice guy and all...but his exams were the most ambiguous I've ever taken. If you take this course take advantage of any opportunities for extra credit because he doesn't curve. Reading the text doesn't help either. Studying is practically useless. The journals were the only aspect of the course that I liked.
I will admit that he is a very interesting professor. He actually makes the class fun. But his tests are ridiculous. I studied for the longest time (powerpoints/textbook) and still had trouble with the questions, as if they came out of no where. If you want to get an easy grade, this class is not for you.
he's alright. but the tests are pretty hard since most of the material is directly from his examples in lectures. so don't miss class-
Ok Dr. Worthington is very knowledgeable in the subject of psychology. his lectures are ok sometimes. I have had to force a laugh every now and then. His tests are hard but he does give extra credit. honestly if you have to take this class find another teacher.
He is hilarious. He has written several books. Very easy to read. Best professor I have ever had
Interesting lectures. He likes to tell stories. Tests are hard but he offers lots of interesting extra credit. If you go to class you should do fine.
He likes to add personal stories to all lectures. Attendance isn't important (uses it for extra credit), but if you miss class, you will most likely fail the test. He adds his personal stories on the tests and the wording of them is not easy. But he gives lots of extra credit to make up for test scores.
Worthington is a super interesting guy. His lectures will sometimes get a bit boring, but he tells great stories that make it alright. His tests are pretty hard, but he offers an extreme amount of extra credit throughout the semester. Good guy, good class!
Awesome teacher IMO.He really challenges you, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT IT HELPS SO MUCH!! Also go to class and pay attention his test are literally 45% textbook, 45% lecture material, and 10% personal stories he shares with his class. I got an A, its possible if you study!
GREAT TEACHER......EVERYTHING HE SAYS IS ON THE TEST...NOT MUCH FROM BOOK
Do not listen to all thoses who said bad things about this teacher. He is the best teacher I have had so far at VCU. He's lectures are intersting, and keeps you focused. Teaching skills are awsome and gives a lot of extra credit. u can get an A with some effort
What a brilliant instructor. He doesn't just teach, he's a personal mentor. I took him for Positive Psychology and would recommend everyone to take that course.
He gives an ungodly amount of extra credit. Tries to scare you with the difficulty of his tests, but as long as you read, go to class, and do some studying it's cake. Really nice guy who does a fantastic job of getting his students interested in the topic. The journals due every month or so require some effort, but again, still an easy A.
He's very clear with his teaching. he has a combination of lecture and textbook. YOU MUST read the book, but if you don't come to class youre going to miss about 30% of the questions. good stories so you wont be bored in class.... maybe
Attend all the classes and pay close attentions to the stories. It is a must to at least get a C on the exams. Extra credits will help, always do the labs, and assignments. The professor is very approachable and good entertainment throughout the duration of class time.
30 some years of him teaching at VCU has not made him a good professor. He requires way to much work for what the class is.
This was without a doubt my favorite class this semester. You will learn things significant to your life, no matter your major. His anecdotes are hilarious and it is probably the most fun 4 credit course you will take. If you choose to take Psych 101 at VCU, I highly recommend you choose the class with Professor Worthington. You won't regret it.
Dr. Worthington is the most amazing instructor ever! I definitely recommend people to take this class. His class is the must-take-class at VCU in my opinion. You have to study a lot for this class. His tests are hard. But if you want an easy A, don?t take it! Record his lectures! Study all the lecture notes and read the textbook!
He makes psychology fun and interesting to learn about. He's very funny and knowledgeable. HOWEVER, if you do not read the material, go to class, or do the required work, you cannot hope to pass. The tests are very hard and take a lot of studying. Remember to take lots of notes and do ALL the work. Including extra credit.
I love Dr. Worthington! Even though his tests are difficult, his stories are so funny, and he makes learning psychology enjoyable. I loved this class so much that I ended up with a very high A (with the extra credit, of course) and even ended up changing my major to Psychology. You will Love him!!
The exams are 60 - 75% from the book, the remainder derived from Worthington's own hypotheses or "theories". The actual class is more of a 50/50 split. If you want to learn psych, look elsewhere. If you want an unfulfilled old man to try to entertain you with 9000 Farside cartoons while selling unscientific, weird thoughts on sex and parenthood...
Great class and a hilarious teacher. He makes psyc actually fun. But his tests and ARE hard and there is definitely a lot of work. You just can't be lazy. To do well, do ALL the work given including extra cred and go to the SI Sessions. They are very helpful. I promise. Don't be lazy!
He is an interesting guy and tells a lot of funny stories. There is not much work to do for the class but the exams are pretty hard. If you study his notes (he puts powerpoints up but you have to actually listen to him in class)and some of the book, and do all the extra credit it isn't too bad, I got an A just doing that.
Hes a great guy he can sometimes ramble and puts random things on the exams that were not discussed, but the extra credit really helps. I got an A with a fair amount of studying and doing most of the extra credit.
He's insane. His exams are extremely hard if you don't comprehend book knowledge very well. He rambles a lot and shows cartoons that aren't helpful. Take McCreary's class.
Ev is a great mentor for psychology - but probably the least favorable 101 teacher. He goes off on long tangents that he will sometimes test on.Class is not entertaining.Tests are hard (+in class, not online like every other 101) if you don't grasp concept-unless you are a serious psych major,I wouldn't recommend him.Get McCreary,he's awesome.
Worthington is a great teacher! Yes, he goes on tangents-but they are funny ways to remember the material that he talked about that day. If you can't pass his tests you are retarded because all you have to do is read ( like you would have to in any other psych 101 class) and just half way pay attention in class. He's a great guy & a great teacher!
Worthing, i dont even know what to say about him. He is constantly off topic, he goes on tangents about stuff that is not even important. I wanted a minor in psychology but after taking this class i changed my mind! His exams are super hard. I would not recomend taking this class. If you do make sure you read and pay attention to lectures.
He rants on and on with stories that just want to put you to sleep. His exams have little to do with lecture mainly the book and the questions are so complicated by the end of the exam I am just bubbling in random letters. He does give extra credit opportunities and attendance points every now and then. He is nice but not good at teaching.
He is an awful, awful teacher. Switch out of his class immediately. He forces you to buy and read his stupid book which isn't helpful in any way shape or form, but gives away the endings to the best books and movies ever created, thus ruining them for you. He talks about nothing that matters and his powerpoints are generally useless.
Worthington is an awesome teacher! Interesting lectures that are self-explanatory and funny. All you gotta do to get an A is go to lectures, READ BOOK (BIG PART), and lastly take notes during lectures. VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO KEEP UP WITH MODULES (LOT OF READING) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! TAKE HIM IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGE, AND A GOOD PROFESSOR!
HIs such an amaizng teacher, yes he doesnt always teach strictly for the tests and exams but he elaberates on them. AS LONG AS YOU READ YOU PSYCH BOOK YOU WILL BE JUST FINE!! people don't read it then they want to get mad at him. His funny, entertaining, cute and tries to make it as entertaining as possible. Which is good.
BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD!! he is absolutely HILLARIOUS! every class is like going to a comedy show! definitely read the text book for this class...the tests are practically all examples from the text! i always gets A's on his tests. He gives SO MUCH extra credit!! 100 points! Thats how much a test is worth. And the extra credit is so easy!
Dr. Worthington is HILARIOUS. At first I was afraid he'd be boring but he's so funny; it's adorable. His tests are sort of hard but if you read they're not too bad. Super nice. very willing to answer questions. Gives attendance quizzes every now and then. I have an overall good time in his class. I love psych and he makes me want to continue
Dr. Worthington is a very laid back yet spunky guy. His tests are not easy, but if you follow his study guidelines you will do well. The forgiveness book project seemed like it would be a hassle but it was actually very interesting. I would definitely take this class over again. Study hard, pay attention, come 2 class and u will be just fine :)
He definitely does his best to keep the class interesting...but his lectures can get boring. The workload is intense and tedious, especially for a 101 class. WAY too much reading. He relies on you to learn the material from the book. You can study all you want for tests, but you won't do exceptionally well. I would take it with another teacher.
GREAT TEACHER!!! I reccommend him for anyone interested in psych, he makes it interesting and fun! There is work, not anymore then what's expected from anyother class. he offers tons of extra credit and his exams aren't hard as long as you study (and he adds really funny choices on the tests too). Wonderful guy!
He is FANTASTIC!I didn't care abotu PSYCH before this class and now I love it. He makes everything interesting, and talks about sex alot (which I thought was hilarious). His tests were pretty easy and he offers tons of ex credit, the only draw back is that 90% of the test material comes from the book... and he expects you to read every page!
He is AMAZING. Before I had his course I was never too interested in psych and now i'm majoring in it until I get into my grad level. He makes class VERY interesting, and is also very real. I was dreading the assigned reading (as always) but it was really interesting and not too hard. I DEFINITELY recommend him to everyone who is taking psych 101.
Even though I put that attentance isn't mandatory GO TO HIS LECTURES. they are so worth it. this man is extremely intelligent and humorous and his stores and novels are great. Required to read one of his books and write a paper but his books are very interesting and include some of his stories he tells. Great man. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT DO IT!!!
His lectures are mainly stories which I find very interesting and they most likely show up on tests, so make notes. I read a LOT and study a LOT. It's 4 credits and you EARN all 4, trust me. He makes it interesting though, it's definitely not boring. Tests aren't hard if you READ & STUDY. The book he wrote, that you have to read, is very good.
This is a professor that doesn't require you to go to class, but you need to go to class in order to do well on his tests. Very very nice guy and an experienced professor.
Dr. Worthington is a pretty swell guy IMO. His test are very hard to me but there are sooooo many extra credit opportunities he gives throughout the semester that make up for some low scores. He gave opportunity for over 100 pts extra cretdit on a 1000 pt scale! He also has other assignments which are pretty easy that count for a lot. take him
I'm not sure what I expected out of Psych 101 exactly, but if you want an easy A take Dr. Worthington's class. If you want an engaging, challenging course that allows you to think a little differently than just regurgitating facts and being held to a low standard, this class is not for you. He's a wonderful person, the class just feels too silly.
He's a great teacher. He might go off on tangents sometimes but they're usually funny. He's also easy to talk to and in my opinion, the class feels comfortable and natural. Yes, you have to read your textbook ALOT but he gives ALOT of extra credit chances so if you completely bomb the test, there's always a second chance. Two thumbs up!
Dr. Worthington's class is hardly engaging. Hard to focus and hear him. Psych 101 is a 4 credit class but it is grueling. His tests are IMPOSSIBLE to get an A or B. reading the text will not help. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT IT WILL SAVE YOU.
I LOVED Dr. Worthington. After taking his class, I am honestly a psych major now (for undergrad). He is such a nice and funny old man. I loved going to class because it was pretty interesting material, but he made me actually want to learn it. His tests are kind of hard, but he gives extra credit throughout the semester. He's an awesome teacher!
this class is outrageous mr.worthington is a funny teacher but his test are crazy he puts random answer choices up there and they are the most random questions he only teaches what he likes not what's in the books. on the flip side he gives lots of extra credit. this class moves fast and sit in the front because he refuses to use the mic .
Read the modules and study the powerpoints. It's not a difficult class, you just need to pay attention. He isn't a good teacher. He talks about himself a lot.
Dr. Worthington is a very funny and studied man. From what I understand he is a big deal in the field of psychology. However, he tells more stories than useful information. As a non-psych major I enjoyed this, but if you really want to learn his class isn't for you. His tests are more about being a good test taker than knowing the information.
I loved Dr. Worthington's lectures. He is very funny and he definitely knows what he is talking about. His quirky stories actually helped me with the subject. Overall, a little extra effort in Dr. Worthington's class can go a long way. Attend his lectures, because if he randomly takes attendance you get extra credit points!
I struggled with his tests. It's the one thing I really didn't like about his class even though I tried studying for them. Yet, he is a funny and really nice guy. He actually does care a lot. Because of the extra credits I didn't end up with anything lower than a B even with a few bad test grades. DO ALL EXTRA CREDITS!
Good professor, funny guy, and a pretty fair grader. His tests are extremely easy if you even attempt to study, and PowerPoints are all posted online, so coming to class is only useful to pick up on in class stuff he includes in each exam. Tons of grades in this class, and lots of extra credit, so it's not hard to get a good grade.
His class is a bit boring (reads directly from powerpoints, has a soporific voice), but generally fine. The problematic part is that he requires you to purchase and write a report on an off-topic Christian book that he wrote. Professors should not require you to pander to their religious views or take advantage of their students for monetary gain.
Make sure you go to class, sometimes he fills his lecture with some personal experiences that you can't find in the powerpoints or the book. He offers a lot of extra credit so make sure you take advantage of that. Overall fairly easy class as long as you take notes and do the required readings.
There is no way NOT to get an A in this class. He grades the entire course on a 1000 point system and all extra credit he offers adds up to 100+ points. I never got A's on the test, only B's and i never read a chapter in the book or took notes, LISTEN in class, do ALL the extra credit and you can raise whatever grade you have by a WHOLE LETTER.
