One of the better professors in the department

I wish someone would have told me this the very first time I took this class. It is very challenging, but it is not Impossible. I have to dedicate about 5-10 hours each week studying with my friends and stayed up to the rate the prof went. If it wasnt for the group it would've taken more studying. Totally feels rewarding when it all pays off though

Open book exam for Thermodynamics. Exams are the same with homework and lectures. Problems are reworded though. I earned an easy A. Just make a study group and learn from the powerpoints and homework

This teacher is very difficult! He lets you use your book, notes, and laptop during the exams but you will not be able to simply google your way out of being prepared, he's thought of that. The only way to pass is to do ALL the hw and actually learn the material. Do not rely on the solutions manual or you will have a tough time during the exam.

Took intro to thermo thermodynamics and heat transfer with him as long as you read the book his class is pretty easy one of the best professors in the department. Also make sure to pick up your tests he will show you what you did wrong and give points sometimes.

My GPA is 4.0 right now. After taking this class, it's still 4.0 and should be 5.0 if there's one. Shafirovich is easier than I thought he was. Heat transfer is a tough course but Shafi isn't a tough professor. I'm passing with an A.

Kindest professor at UTEP. He's always in his office to help his students. He's just so clear the way he explains stuffs. I took him Thermodynamics Fall 2015 and Heat Transfer Spring 2016. Thermodynamics is a very tough class. However Doctor Shafirovich did a great job in explaining and teaching. I was really scared of him at first but I was able to pass through all difficulties due to the helps from him. Doctor Shafirovich is amazing and an easy A instructor. Pass this class by doing all extra credit assignments as well as coming to class. He gives bunch of EC on the exams and quizzes. Make sure you purchase the solution manual too. Easiest class in engineering major. Got an A in 21 credit semester Spring 2016.

Ask questions during class and if you still don't get it ask him as soon as class ends to help you work through some and 9 out 10 times he will and break it down step by step. He gives reviews and if you understand the concepts in the homeworks you will pass the tests. Extremely charismatic and doesn't get upset or degrade his students.

This was the hardest class I've ever taken BUT I can say that I really learned. The homeworks have videos that explain how to do it. He drops the lowest grade out of four exams and gives a lot of extra credit through class reponse and moodles. You do have to study for this class but you are in college and that's what you are supposed to do anyway.

Most generous and kindest instructor at UTEP engineering. He always cares about his students. I came from Juarez and English is not my first language but I got 100 in his Thermo class Spring 2016. This is my 3rd class with Dr. Shafirovich and he is a very good professor. I took all his classes and as long as you do the discussions each week you'll be fine. His exams are online aren't timed which you have plenty of time to come back to each question. You don't really need the book since you can look up the material online.

63 out 112 people got A's in this course. Shafi shows statistics data at the end of the Spring 2016. His Thermodynamics course is fairly easy that almost everyone got easy A. So take this teacher

Professor Shafi is very passionate about what he does and it rubs off on you. At first I was just checking the box with this class but he inspired me to dig deep into the class. His exams are not too hard if you study the notes and UNDERSTAND the material. He is very understanding and gives extra credit. overall great class! no book used.

Prof. Shafi was great even without getting to meet him! I took his Thermo course and was easy flowing. He is always on top of things and constantly reminding you about what is due and upcoming assignments. Assignments were not hard at all considering I know nothing about math. Easy A overall

I ended up paying a bit extra for out-of-county tuition, but the class was well-worth every penny. The teacher is fantastic and really cares about the success of students. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. By far, this was the easiest, most laid back class I have ever taken. If you're looking to get your credit requirements, look no further.

Before taking Thermo with teacher Shafi, I just hope I could pass with an A because I'm from Juarez Mexico and English is my second language. However, after getting to his class I understood very well and got straight A's except for the second exam that I failed. Shafirovich gives 40 points EC at the end of semester. I changed my major from Accounting to Mech Engineering. Thought that Engineering was harder but it completely changed my life. This teacher has clear explanation and gives a lot of extra credits at the end of Spring 2016. This teacher made me feel life is meaningful once again.

I took him for Spring 2016. He has many degrees excellent teacher. You learn a lot. Applies what he teaches to the medical field so you have an idea. Plus extra credits are always available. Must take.

Thermo and Heat Transfer Lectures were via power point because of the size of the class. The homework consisted of problems from the book, maybe 6-8 problems per week. Tests were easier than and similar to the homework, and overall were fair. Final was much the same. Forty percent of the grade was from homework.

Dr. Shafirovich's Renewable Energy special topics course was easy and cool! He is very knowledgeable on the subject, which makes things interesting. The exams are multiple-choice, you can use notes, and they have a set curve, but they are the only thing graded. If you attend class, he is more willing to work with you and may give you extra credit.
