Dr. Zakharov is by far the best physics professor I have had the pleasure of having. He is extremely smart, but not pretentious, and does his absolute best at helping his students learn. In his class, you will learn about physics. His lectures are very clear and his expectations are as well. He is an amazing and passiotprofessor who loves teaching.
It is a really easy, but the lectures were barely on the exam. He frequently tells us "This won't be on the exam, but it's good knowledge" yes it is, if you plan to be an astronomy major. But for me, I want to know what's going to be on the exams and not fun facts! You're better off reading the textbook, if its even going to be on the exam...
Dr. Zakharov is a rock solid instructor. Hails from Russia, but his English is excellent and accent is light (compared to other Russian/Eastern European profs I've had). Great lecturer, very understanding about student problems outside the classroom, fair grader. The class itself is calc based, so be very comfortable with algebra and trig.
Dr. Zakharov is the best instructor I've had. He has a natural enthusiasm for the material he teaches and encourages everyone to participate. This is not to say that his classes are easy, (Physics is a challenging subject), but he believes that really knowing Physics will allow you to succeed and be safe out there in the real world.
Took for Phys 3A & 3B. He is very keen to ensure that we catch the information and understand the concepts. Very well organized and his lectures are indicative of how much time has been invested into planning them. The syllabus schedule is pretty much dead-on and quizzes/tests/exams are taken directly from lecture, homework, and textbook reading
Professor Zakharov is a tough grader, but extremely fair. He follows the book, so if you read ahead you will get a solid reinforcing through his lectures. He expects you to try, and is extremely reasonable. Would take for every physics if I could.
Taking him for the Winter 2018, he is not a bad prof. A quiz every time you met (10 questions)an exam that covers 3 chapters. Extra credit opportunities! Drops lowest quiz AND exam, which is very generous of him. Teaches off PP but gets a little boring. What is required of us during these 4 weeks is not that bad. Make sure you read on your own!!
He is a very fair grader, even when an answer is not fully right he still gives half credit, he goes off power point lectures but he still makes it very interesting, drops lowest quiz & test, reading the book is necessary, he always tells you what will be on the test and is just overall a great professor! highly recommend, you wont regret it.
Funny Russian Guy. Cares about his students. I agree with everything the last comment said 100%
The guy is very knowledgeable about his subject and therefore may come off as condescending. Slight language/cultural barrier. He inadvertently makes politically conservative comments and his Russian roots can pierce through-- take that as you will; for 3B and got A so I'm not biased. I don't feel like A-student in physics-- wink, wink.
I wish I could have taken in during the spring or fall semester but took him during winter session just because the class overall is interesting. He is a great professor and he cares about your questions and explains everything well. He dropped 1 quiz and 1 exam which was pretty nice of him to do. Take him! You wont regret it!
Dr. EZ is one of the best instructors that I have had along my education. He tries to be clear and will repeat things until everyone understands. He drops 1 quiz, 1 test, and 1 lab and offers extra credit that is due by the end of the semester. Also, the way he explains math makes it easy to understand better than a math professor. Go Dr. EZ!! <3
This professor is the best I've had in my entire academic career. He more than deserves a full time position, even department head one day. This professor makes sure everyone understands fundamentals before proceeding to the next step. Do the reading, homework & stop to think & RHR! (understand 3A) Extremely professional, organized & thorough.
This is the easiest Physic professor in Long Beach city college! He drops the lowest exam, quizz and labs. He has 5% total grade for extra credit. The quizzes base 100% on the homework. You MUST read the book before going into class since Physic is tough! He has powerpoint slides which have the essential info you should know for the chapter !!!
Dr. Evgeny is great guy and the best physics professor I have had at the CC level. He has a slight accent but it doesn't stop him from giving great explanations on the material. He also drops the lowest exam, quiz, and lab. Overall he's a great professor & challenges students to get better! I really would like to see him teach more classes at LBCC
I took Dr. Zakharov for PHYS 3A and 3B. He is a really good teacher who cares about his students understanding the material. He encourages questions and will answer any and all questions you have. His grading on the quizzes and exams is fair. Simply put, do ALL the homework, ask questions if you dont understand, and you will do ok
Lectures straight from the text, powerpoints, low enthusiasm, but can be funny. You can just show up for the quizzes & test days & pass. He gives answers to tests on the powerpoints tho and no HW. In depth review for final & gives much needed extra credit. Drops lowest quiz & exam. Tough class if you do not pay attention. 3 exams inc final + quizze
Wanna learn physics? Take this guy. He puts in effort and time to teach, only bad about him is he doesn't have office hours. Lbcc give him an office and remove horrible professors so he gets one. Do the homework, focus on examples he gives, and you'll do great. He helps in labs so ask him. And if you're reading this professor, jesus is with you
He says the book is wrong but gets mad at us for copying his powerpoints. Spends most of his time complaining that he isn't full-time. If we ask a question he gets an attitude and insults you for not knowing what HE understands as "basic knowledge". He swears everyone in that class is there for engineering. He doesn't educate you, he belittles you.
The most unique teacher at lbcc for sure. Honestly, if you put in the effort, this course should be very manageable. Professor really wants his students to succeed and practically sets you up for a B, or an A if you study very hard. Was a bit condescending at times but he intends for you to LEARN from you mistakes. Prof if you read this, God Bless.
Dr. EZ is a very inspirational professor. He makes the class so interesting with video clips and real life examples. I learned a lot about space and the solar system a lot and I enjoyed every minute of the class. He teaches for knowledge not for grades and gives reviews for tests. Gives extra credit which are super fun and educational. A+ for Dr EZ
He is very straightfoward. Do the hw and the quizzes n tests are exactly like it! Its a no brainer. He gives lots of extra credit even 4 just going to class and signing in. Labs r simple. He'll answer ur questions so dont b afraid to ask. I work full time, i slacked off a bit nd still got a B. He drops lowest quiz, test and lab. He wants u to pass.
No matter what anybody says, this class is light work. There's a book but I never bought it. In the lectures, he highlights EXACTLY what you need to know for the daily quizzes and exams. Lectures are diversified with frequent videos and presentations and the subject overall is very interesting and easy to understand. He is fair and knowledgable
Evgeny payed attention to the us, responded to our questions, and went out of his way to help each of us pass the tests and quizzes. He taught with such a fun and clear style, that we couldn't help but find his class both entertaining and easy. He lectured from the slides and informed us in detail exactly what we should know for the exams.
Exceptional. Absolutely loved his class. Passionate, straight-forward, and funny. Super clear about what will be on the tests, 3 extra credit opportunities over the course of the semester, you'll pass and you'll know a ton of stuff about space afterwards as long as you just show up. Easily one of my favorite classes i've taken at LBCC. Thank you!
Dr. EZ will teach you Physics like no other instructor. He is very knowledgeable of the material and very helpful. Put in the work & you will learn plenty! He does a great job at explaining very difficult concepts. Class time is always used efficiently. Very fair in grading. I wish all university professors had his way of teaching. TAKE HIM!
He is very nice and always takes care his students. If you are always in class and do the homework in the textbook, you can go over this class easily. He also gives the extra credit and drops the lowest test and quiz. He is amazing professor. Lets take him!
Dr. Ez is a great professor and he makes physics understandable for almost everyone. He cares about his students and is a pretty funny guy. Hw is not mandatory but quizzes and tests are based mostly on the questions suggests for hw. There is extra credit and he drops the lowest lab, exam, and quiz. Probably the best physics professor at LBCC!
great prof. gives extra credit, cares about his students grade in the class. Doesn't give homework but you have to show up for lectures to know what's gonna be on the test n quizzes. Goes over everything. i highly recommend!!
This professor was very solid. i took his winter class and we met mon/wed/fri from 9am-12:35pm. He gives u 2-3 10 minute breaks in class. quiz every class For the chapter he went over. He drops the lowest test and quiz. Also gives 2 extra credit assignments. take him!
Awesome professor. Really cares about his students understanding the information and passing the class. Took over winter. 3 tests, 1 dropped. Quiz every class, 1 dropped. And a final. Will pass easily if you attend lectures and read over the hw.
His lectures were really interesting and he really made sure that students understood what was going on and were ready for exams. He was very passionate about his subject.
They call him Dr. EZ for a reason, he gives interesting and thoughtful lectures and he is absolutely hilarious! You are graded on a few quizzes at the beginning of every class and 3 tests and one being dropped. Go to lectures and take notes and you'll pass the class. Textbook is recommended but he rarely refers to it.
Don't take any other prof for these classes he is the best. That being said you HAVE to attend lecture and take pictures of the notes, study the hw for the quizzes and study the lecture examples, textbook examples, and hw for the tests. Final is based on test so no surprises. The extra credit is super helpful, you have to put in work but he is A+!
I took prof Ez for my physics 3A and 3B. As you noticed, I took him again because he is one the best prof I have ever had. He made you care about your future. The class itself is very straight forward READ the BOOK and DO your HOMEWORK, and Exercises and come to class. I recommend you to take him B/C you have nothing to lose but physics to gain!
Physics is easier to understand when you get taught by Dr. EZ. The way he explains the lecture is very interesting, straightforward, and convenient for students. Just do your homework, study, and come to class, you'll get a good grade. He is hilarious and you won't get bored with his lectures.
Dr. Evgeny Zakharov is the best professor at LBCC. He really cares about his students and wants to help them in every way. His slides are simple and easy to understand. His office hours are very helpful. I have never taken physics in my life before, and he makes this class easy to understand. You have to take his physics class! He's awesome!
Prof EZ knows his material and knows how to explain it, he cares about his students! If someone gets stuck with a problem, he will explain it again until everyone understands it. If you skip class it will be really hard to keep up with the material. Do the hw and make sure to fully understand the problems and questions in class. Extra credit given
The material is not easy, but Dr. EZ provides all the support to ensure the material is learned. Test and quizzes are based on textbook HW questions with no surprises. Lectures are good, but I did find taking pictures of slides annoying (they are not provided) as I spend unnecessary time matching them to my notes (due to covid-19, slides on canv
Dr. EZ is one of the best professors I have ever had! He truly cares about his students, and he wants to make sure we thoroughly understand the material. He is very clear about what to expect in this class & how everything will be graded. He is fun & easy to talk to, and he is always up for mentoring. Take him & youll see the benefit!
Great Professor for calc based physics. There is lots of homework but it helps you in the long run. Also some homework questions get used on the test. Just be on top of your emails and check the schedule on a weekly basis. I would definitely recommend him to my peers/friends.
Good professor overall! Lets you know from the start what is expected and responds to emails fast.
easy class with straight-forward material and tests
I was very nervous and unconfident about succeeding in this class, but this Prof. EZ totally helped me with everything, especially with understanding the material in the clearest way. With his guidance, I feel confident with any class that requires calculations and I definitely recommend him as a professor!
Dr. EZ is a very easygoing professor. I took it during the summer, and the class is asynchronous, but his lecture powerpoint is very clear and easy to follow. A lot of homework but it is not hard! He gave us extra credit and a lot of opportunities to raise your grade. Take him if you want an A!
(I took this during the summer). This class was more of like a teach-yourself class. But on the bright side, his exams are very similar to the homework, so if you do hw, there won't be any surprises. If you want the best help, you must go to his office hours. He drops lowest HW, lowest lab, and lowest exam (not Final).
There's 3 tests and 1 final. That's it. Best part? The lowest test gets dropped. There are just FOUR grades in the entire curriculum. No homework, no quizzes, no discussions, no reports, or anything else. This is the easiest science requirement course out there.
Really just tests if you know it or not. I took this during covid so I attended many office hours for questions about homework. The only mandatory attendance for my course being all online was for tests on zoom.
He practically hands you an A in the class. I rented the book but didn't really need it. He assigns homework but does not require you to turn it in. His grades are based on quizzes and chapter tests. He goes over the powerpoints in class and highlights things on the quizzes. He does tests review prior and drops the lowest quiz and test.
He clearly wants you to pass this class. It was my first time taking physics so it took me a while to understand all the concepts. I would recommend taking the class in a full semester instead of the summer if it's your first time taking physics. The professor provides really amazing lecture slides and all the answers to the homework. Study hard!
Dr. EZ wants to see you succeed to pass his class. Physics is a hard course but his lectures were clear and were explained in a way that made it easier to understand. Homework isn't mandatory but don't slack off because his quizzes/tests are basically the same questions! He was really generous with partial credit so just give it your best effort.
Do not expect to show up, put minimal effort, and get an A. For a 5.5 unit class, take the 11 hours a week to study if you want a high grade. He is amazing at lectures and goes step by step. FYI, stay the WHOLE class time if you can, especially right before a test. You will see why. Labs are fun and quizzes are HW questions. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE ELSE
He is an amazing professor, has great lectures, and gives lots of extra credit opportunities. There is a textbook, but you can find a PDF of it online so don't buy it. Just read the chapters, attend lectures, and you'll be fine! Although attendance isn't mandatory, it's helpful to go. He wants you to learn and pass the class.
Quizzes and tests is your only homework. Attendance is not mandatory for every lecture and the material shown in class is on Canvas. He drops your lowest quiz and test score at the end of the semester and the final exam is non-cumulative. Material is fairly easy and fun to learn about.
I really enjoyed this class! I had to take Astronomy 1 for my general education courses, however was able to learn new and exciting things about space! Despite having to dedicate plenty of time to reading, the tests did cover the material within the textbooks. This professor is helpful with weekly online Zoom meetings for extra assistance.
I took Dr. Zakharov Winter 2022, he gives you the syllabus and is very straight forward on what he is looking for and gives you the important dates you need to know. He will drop your lowest grade on one of 3 exams, not the final. Also he gives the opportunity for extra credit. I enjoyed learning in his class.
Amazing professor overall! I wish he taught ASTR lab. He does not assign homework. He provides slides that have the answers to the exams, not all the answers. Exams have about 50 questions, he gives you lots of time though. I took him for winter 2022.
Great professor, probably one of the best at LBCC. He puts a lot of effort into creating lectures that are clear and helpful. If you participate in class you will learn most of what you need to know. Tests are the main factor for your grade but he drops the lowest test and gives extra credit. Create a schedule that allows you to take his class.
Lectures are clear and slides are thoughtfully color-coded and REALLY well-put together. Don't miss class! His lectures are very insightful, unmatched to the textbook. The experiments are really cool! When students have questions, Dr. Zakharov is very thorough in explaining the thought-process in understanding the solution. 10/10 Professor.
I had a great experience with Professor. Yet, independent online class, the Professor would respond to all email very quickly. The semester was a condensed session, but the amount of work was decent. I would not say it is easy, but a good grade is feasible as long as one puts the right amount of work.
I loved having him as a professor. Physics is a tough subject but he tries his best to make it so that every student can pass. You must have a little background in math to do well in this course. I recommend really understanding how to do the homework problems as it will help you during quizzes and tests. Overall liked this class.
100% RECCOMED. Taking this class with him was very light. He drops the lowest quiz & exam. Gives extra credit worth a whole letter grade. He's a very chill professor, lol he's just here to get paid :0. All you have to do is study for quizzes and exams. No HW!!! You're in great hands with him. You'll be fine. Goodluck!!
hes good at teaching, all you really have to do to pass the class is pay attention and study whatever you dont know
Great professor! Awesome class!
If you have to take physics, this is the guy.
I wouldn't have passed physics if I didn't take this prof. The class was the most academically challenging for me, but the professor was the nicest person. There is a lot of homework and lecture can be boring, but he made up for it. Physics is a hard subject but he made it better. If you need to take Phys 3A, take him!
Highly recommend Dr. Ez for any physics! I retook physics 3A with him and passed thanks to him, he explains very well and makes the lectures understandable. If one person is lost and needs help seeing how the answer is the answer, he goes back and breaks it down from the beginning again. Make sure to do all hw as they most likely will be on quiz!
Great Teacher! It was a pleasure to be in his class.
This is the best professor I have ever taken in my entire undergrad (Physics 6 -WLAC college). Since it was a 5 week course, there was a quiz, lab, or test every week. However, the content on the tests and quizzes were all directly from the homework, class discussion, or review slides. Lowest test, quiz, and lab is dropped. Responds fast to emails.
Gotta attend the class because you going to have quizzes every 2 days, so attendance is mandatory. Overall, great professor, chill, and a cool dude. Would take this class again if I was interested in astronomy. Tnx
Professor Z, was cool and straight forward. Make sure you do the "homework (review)" and attend class and you'll do fine.
this is a difficult course, but EZ is the king of turning difficult into easy. he tests and quizzes you only on problems you've seen before, whether that's homework or example problems. he keeps class entertaining, provides real-world advice, and cares about his students' futures-- listen to what he has to say. choose this professor no matter what
Dr. EZ has been by far the best physics instructor I have taken given his clear passion & above all is fair as he will only test you on what you've seen. I will give a quick review on how to prep for his course but BEWARE this is NOT an easy course, it's Physics :) Quizzes: do the hw. Exams: study lecture/discussion ppt, txtbook examples, & hw.
Dr.EZ is knowledgeable, made his lectures fun, and EZ to understand. He will take the time to explain things if you are willing to ask. Physics is a hard class, he assigns HW, but doesn't require you turn it in. You will not get the grade you want on quizzes and exams if you don't do the hw or conceptual questions. Extra credit is given by doing HW
His test and quizzes are homework problems,so make sure you actually do them. His labs aren't super hard, quizzes are fairly easy but the exams are difficult. The multiple choice section for his test are the most difficult part of the exams. DO NOT SKIP HIS REVIEW SLIDES FOR EACH CHAPTER OR DISCUSSION SLIDES! you must go to class or you wont pass!
Prof. Zakharov's ASTR 1 class was really easy & manageable. There is a clear agenda in the syllabus stating what is expected every day in the course. He also has a very flexible grading criteria. His tests are really easy if you study for them, and his quizzes are also pretty easy if you pay attention to his lecture & posted lecture notes.
Professor EZ has to be my favorite professor thus far. He does an amazing job with his lecture videos if you have him online and the class is really manageable. I took his Elementary Astronomy class and I loved it. If you need a science class, please take his course. You'll enjoy it.
The professor provided clear instructions in great guidance in completing this class with knowledge gained. The professor was quick to respond to messages and was very communicative. I truly enjoyed this class.
Professor Evgeny is such a great instructor, he send updates to remind us about assignments or tests due and his lectures are always straight to the point and focus on the material you will be tested on.
Dr. EZ is by far the best Physics professor at LBCC. His lectures are great, gives good explanations, and tells us clear instructions for labs and what we should expect on the exams. He is very understanding, supportive, and genuinely wants you to pass with a good grade. I recommend him for 3A and 3B. Amazing professor.
Prof was funny but had little patience for student inquiries. Lecture was not always consistent w/ test questions. Prof often got frustrated at any extra questions and was hard to get any feedback/correct answers w/out much back and forth.
took him over the summer within 8 weeks. Very difficult course. Fast paced! But honestly he made the material manageable. Very clear and straightforward with his syllabus. Physics is a tough subject and you must put in the work but professor Zakharov made getting an A possible. If you get an A, he will write a letter of recommendation! Good luck!
Fast email responses, easy tests. He will write you a letter of rec if you get an A, but an A is not hard to achieve in this class. Don't be scared even though he's large and direct when speaking. He means well.
Great Professor, his teaching style and lectures made Astronomy understandable. He is very understanding when it comes to attendance and as long as you stay engaged during lecture and/or go to the study guide and review dates you will definitely pass the class.
Dr. Ez simplifies physics by emphasizing fundamentals. He aims to teach, not memorize formulas. Deriving equations is the toughest part of the test, accounting for 70% of the work. Which is honestly very hard. I 100% cried a few times. But by then end, I walked out feeling like I had an actual grasp on physics, that went way beyond surface level.
Dr. Ez is a great professor. He honestly cares if you learn something in his class, especially if you are in the engineering field. The homework is not required but I would recommend doing it because the homework is a lot like the exams and quizzes. His labs are fun and engaging. You can get the textbook for $10 a month, read it and you'll do great
I love Dr. Ez; all my classmates love Dr. Ez. I went from a D to a C to a B... ONLY because I put the work required, stayed consistent, do your LABS in CLASS, DO the homework that is not mandatory because it IS IDENTICAL to exams, ASK QUESTIONS even if embarrassing, READ THE SLIDES BEFORE AND AFTER CLASS... this class is not easy,STAY CONSISTENT-R
Homework isn't required, but recommended because exams/quizzes are made up of it. The final is cumulative. His lectures are pretty insightful and he does stop to answer questions. Adds on with a class discussion practicing problems.
Great professor, if you have the chance to take him, I would recommend it.
