Very easy to take. If you come to class, there is pretty much no reason to buy the books. Example, first test I took where I studied and read everything, got low B, second test where I did nothing but take lecture notes, got an A. Attendance sort of counts, he's not that strict about it though.

this guy respects all opinions. we had a crazy lady in the front row that wouldnt shut up, but he still treated her with respect, lots of patience. however, there was too many papers, and due dates were a bit scattered.
This professor was well organized. Explained exactly how he wanted his papers turned in. He has patients.He is very passionate regarding his selected works. Would highly recommend him.He has a low tolerence for slackers and rightly so.

Great teacher, as said above dont stress about turning stuff in 2-3 later past the due date. Accepts a lot over email.Good clarity,fun easy,funny. A+
Hardly any work in the class at all and only one essay test. he is very laid back and respects everyone's comments even if they are completely off
didnt seem very organized, but knew the subject well, helped students with questions and very laid back. accepted lots of late papers + through email. we got way behind chedule and it took him weeks to grade our tests and essays! we would get our essays back until day before the next one was due.

Such a whiney baby! He would ask questions that were unclear and then complain that no one was participating when most the class was lost. he's organized, knows what his talking about, and very laid back. homework and essays are not difficult & accepts late work through e-mail,which is great. takes attendance everyday, so be there on time. also he's compassionate toward students who is not doing well. this teacher is highly recommended for an english class.
Chronically late, both to daily classes and with returning assignments. Tends to belabour his points (we ran out of time 'cause of his lectures and had to cut an entire novel from the syllabus - we were only scheduled to read two). Nice guy, surprisingly demanding, but SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. As of now he's 10 minutes late posting final grades.
WAY too much work. Yelled at some students, who were right to be upset. We should have gotten credit for English 201 or at least 101. This should have been a baseball class, but really, it was an english class about baseball. Think twice.

Teacher is ok, knew what he was talking about, and seemed to show that he loves what he's doing. Was usually cranky in the morning and took it out on a few specific students constantly. Assignments were sometimes confusing and most due dates were also confusing. He'd randomly switch due dates without telling any of the students, and when non of us showed up with that assignment done, we got lectured about lack of responsibility for the duration on the class time.
Not a hard class but it wasnt easy, I got a better grade than I thought I would. He's a good teacher although that beard thing bugged me
This was an easy class. Not alot of assignments and the deadlines were reasonable. Great for 101!
Magie is a organized, and out going. If staying awake in class is hard, this teacher will keep you awake, full of energy, loves good jokes.
Magie was a great prof. He gave out a lot of readings, but as long as you kept up with those then you did fine. He was always willing to help if you were confused or needed help.
Dont take him! he contradicts himself, and doesn't always make clear what he wants or expects. He's a tough grader and marks you down a lot for little things and if he doesn't agree with what you write. He doesn't give many opportunities for extra credit, and once wasted a whole hour just talking about sex. willing to help, but not very helpful.
cool guy and knows a lot about sports (even pro cycling). very interactive with the class. grading is fair and reading was usually interesting (as long as you like transcendentalism). has a different class focus every quarter. once got really mad at the class and cancelled it because a few people had not brought in their assignments. recommmended.
this teacher was a good teacher. he was well prepared everyday and was an interesting teacher. He even gave out extra credit a few times which is something most teachers dont do
Ewan is a kind of a psychopath. I mean he is probably obsessed with sex (he just had to talk about it so he connected "Botany of Desire" to Sex)We wrote 5 essays and he has only given back 2 and there are only 5 days left in the quarter. He is an ok grader, no too hard, not too easy. Except he takes off lots of points for small errors in essays.
He was a very good instructor, and I admired the way he presented our lessons. He connected what he was teaching to our lives and was a very open professor. He was very helpful, welcomed any questions we had, doing his best to answer them. He graded our essays honestly and provided useful feedback...he also gave us many stupid homework assignments.
Magie is an interesting character. He is there if you have a question, however "there" is relatively speaking. He is a bit un-organized at times. ATTENTION STUDENTS taking Eng 101. Magie teaches more 201 classes so be prepaired for a lot of writing in this class as well as not seeing any rough drafts returned prior to final drafts being due.
Provides clear understanding of concepts. He side-tracks a little but his stories are always interesting and helpful. Always willing to stay after class to provide extra help. Fair grading and provides excellent examples as references. Highly recommended.
This professor picks on familiar faces:( Students are assigned lots of busy work. He is very approachable after class, but not during his rambling lectures. He says “mmmk” a lot.He also grades extremely harsh on grammatical errors. Over all Magie is a good professor if you need to take a morning lecture. Attendance is vital to grade!
lots of busy work.. he assigns a one page single space response to a text 2 times a week on top of a bunch of other assignments... it gets old.
do not take this class unless you want to travel to six different locations on your spare time and write about them write 26 single spaced one page responses to a boring book and five major papers not to mention deal with him being moody every other day he also grades very harshly on gramatical errors
Ewan is a great teacher though he does side track quite often. Most people are right when they say that the level of reading/required in his class is at a 200 level. Nonetheless he's a fair grader, flexible and fair teacher. Not to mention his tests aren't very difficult, just pay attention to what he says; you're likely to be quizzed on it.
1st 4 weeks R very difficult up to 2-3, 1 page single spaced papers were due in one week. There are a lot of one page responses, but if you start doing them and get used to it, they get a lot easier throughout the quarter. He can be moody sometimes, but he's always on time and is always prepared. He thinks he's a hard a$$ but he's really nice
he grades so hard and he can pick up anything and tell u that u have mistakes everywhere
Negative: unclear instructions, unprepared in lessons, didn't return over half the papers assigned, excessive talking with no real point and it's impossible to gauge your grade~ Positive: many fun, intellectual lectures given. Overall, I won't be signing up for a class with this prof again, but I'd probably join a club he sponsored.

Very demanding, but very good class.
Hes a cool, funny guy but doesn't really teach. If you suck at english beware, cuz ur probably screwed. All you'll learn are the guidelines. Unlike AP english, you won't learn any advanced writing mechanics. He also whines like a batch, and has PMS status mood swings. And this guy reminds me of south park, mmmkay? (will alter grade acc. to mood)
He TRIES to be funny, but hes really not. he TRIES to make class entertaining, but its really not. like the person said " if you suck at english..ur screwed " yuupppp
hes a nice guy, cool teacher, but lots of homework. at least one or two single page response papers to various readings a week. and when it comes to major papers, he is a VERY hard grader, especially for an english 101 class
he has his favorites and its so annoying how he doesnt teach you anything. hes also one of those teachers who gives you feedback on your papers but you CANNOT read a single word of his hand writing. hes mean and im didnt get anything out of this class, I was excited when this class was over

Yeah he goes off on wild tangents, but he explores different issues and allows for brainstorming. Yeah he has mood swings and the solution to this is not to argue with his logic...just go with it. Easy if you want it to be so.
He's not too bad of a teacher. Was late a lot, but the class was at 7:30, so I don't blame him. I noticed he kinda does have favorites, but I guess I was one of them because I ended up with a good grade. Although I did try hard in the class. He can be cranky, but he means well :)

Almost no guidelines, and nearly zero feedback. It's really hard to judge progress, or improve at all. LOTS of reading.
Before taking his class I hated writing essays with a passion! Now I write essays with ease and its helped me through my whole college career, UW grad next year! I really give him full credit for improving my skills. It was a really intense class, expect alot of work, but I really think I would not be the writer I am today w/o him. No pain no gain
This guy is a good person but as a teacher, he's just okay. Don't come in late or you'll get on his bad side. There are a lot of essays to write but you get used to it. The only bad thing really is the fact that he doesn't give feedback for the longest time. So you don't know how you're doing in his class. He also says mmmmk a lot.
He's a cool guy but as a teacher he doesn't give you good feedback and if he does it's six weeks too late. Be on time, pay attention and turn in everything on time and you'll be fine. He is kind of condescending...but it's a pretty laid back class. Just boring and tedious.
Magie is a HARD grader-This is a class that you HAVe to take your paper into him in advance for corrections. Good teacher-but does not give enough feed back during the quarter to learn how to correct mistakes - he waits until the end of the quarter to go over papers and you do not know your grade until the end of the quarter either.
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the teacher for you. I learned a lot from him, but his class was nowhere near easy. Class was interesting and insightful. Hardly any feedback though and what you do get comes weeks too late. He is helpful though and willing to go over drafted papers after class.
Prof will make you use your brain in class during discussions, but sometimes there's a lack of participation, so he sometimes tends to ramble. BS-ing is not option when writing papers, he grades really hard, but it's fair. He was lenient/understanding about handing papers in late. Got papers back weeks after it was due but class was enjoyable
Tons of hmwk every day. doesn't follow the syllabus, adds assignments at his own whim. Doesn't understand that students have other classes! Rambles and goes off on tangents completely unrelated to the subject at hand. Is also extremely rude at times and has terrible mood swings. Knows his stuff, but I wouldn't take his class again.
I took Film as Lit with Prof Magie. If ever a man has had a napoleon complex, it is him. He needed a constant ego rub in order to simply listen to you. While I got an A in his class, I learned very little, and worked very hard. I know many people who have had him and also left his class feeling uneducated. He was disorganized and graded harshly.
he is super hard..magie tends to ramble no making much sense and he drones on and on about random subjects, and focusing a lot on death..a little weird if you ask me. magie is very charismatic but i wouldnt recommend this class if you are just starting out
At first I thought that this was going to be a very difficult class, but you really need to do WORK in his classes. He grades hard, but he grades you what you earn. I loved him and thought he was funny and intriging. People who didn't like him were most likely just lazy.
The class was easy. But he is the worst teacher i've ever had. He is a cliche coffee shop snob as someone else called him. He said our class didn't know how to read. He is so boring. He makes attendance mandatory so he can bore you to death. He makes you print a whole tree worth of assignments. None of which you turn in. Waste of time.
I think that a lot of people had issue with him, but I really appreciate his teaching style. He wants you to be successful, and reaffirms that it is up to you to do that. Nobody is going to come up and save you and do it for you. He emphasizes personal responsiblity. I really like him.
Pr.Magie is passionate about his teaching. He is definitely an academic person, but still fun. His class is hard but worth your time. Yet he talks a little bit to fast, and his handwriting is kinda hard to read.
Ok, so basically if you are an international student coming from ENG093, DO NOT take this class. Rediculosly boring reading materials, due dates are always unclear, he barely ever writes emails back, and overall the most annoying teacher ever. I cannot wait for this quarter to be over so I am free from this stupid class!

While Magie does tend to ramble often, he really makes the contextual study of baseball history the focus. For the most part, the work isn't too terrible but timed essay writing on the mid-term and final seem both out of place and a poor reflection of what a student actually knows. Aside from that, it was a pretty good class all around.
Brings his personal frustrations with him into the classroom. He has a good structure for teaching his course but fails to teach it without seeming pompous at times. Wants to teach this as if it was a high level class, but constantly speaks and teaches to the poorest students. With mandatory attendence it is a nightmare for a good english student.
I was surprised to find so many negative comments on Prof. Magie. I took his class during summer quarter (which is 5 weeks shorter) and it was intense! He was obviously passionate about the subject, and his chosen reading list was amazing. I have never worked so hard in my life! I literally wrote every night, but it was well worth it.
If you're going to take his class - take an Online class & DON'T miss the days you have to meet up. He basically spoon feeds you. Very easy unless you don't take notes, don't interact during discussions, & if you miss more than one day of class. Gets distracted easily, very passionate, but still a good ENGLISH teacher.
Cliche arrogant college prof, but also insecure and emotionally agitated. Has an interesting reading list. Good lesson plan, bad execution. Slowly inspires contempt in a certain percentage of the students. I find it difficult to perform for a teacher I don't like, and unfortunately I don't like him.
Good teacher! Always willing to help. Pay attention during the discussion and you'll do fine on all his papers. Very interesting reading list! However, he does bring his emotions into class and gets frustrated really easily. Not a bad class to take!

took him after i graduated high school.didn't realize how difficult balancing his assignments with other classes would be. assigns a lot of readings & essays. didn't review grammar or ways to improve writing but would have been willing to help if i had any questions outside of class. he definitely challenges students to work hard for good grade.
Expect a truly ridiculous workload required for his class. The class met 4 days a week, he expected 1 page papers every day of class. This was on top of 3 major papers during the quarter, other daily/weekly writing projects, online assignments for grammar, and various other assignments he would decide on a whim. It was beyond insane...

Reading the comments here scared me before taking this Eng101 class. But Magie is honestly not as bad as everyone is saying. I got A's on all his papers, and only spent about 3hrs on each one. I wouldnt take his late start class though, because it is boring. He talks the whole class, but he is not mean unless you talk to others while he is talking.
Prof. Magie is a very passionate man who teaches with emotion about the subject material. The problem is his work load and clarity. I agree with the review that said he teaches 101 as if it's a higher level class. I understand it's not high school anymore but you will definitely have to work for your A.
When using this site, think critically about the people who comment on the material. This professor will demand that you give your best effort and is willing to work with you to do so. If you go to class and invest the time and effort this is a great learning experience. If you are in college just to be there this is not the class for you.
Come to the class with an open mind and you will succeed. Yes, there is a lot of work, but it's college and it's expected. Professor Magie is a wonderful teacher for those that don't normally engage in the English topics. He provides fun energy in the classroom while maintaining respect. This class is the "you get the grade you deserve" class.
He is a pretty good teacher. He sets the bar high, but explains everything. I don't recommend you take a hybrid class, as he believes that in hybrid classes you should be independent. If you take his class with him, everything is good. Lots of writing, but he knows his stuff, and wants us to learn too. Good teacher.
Mr Magie was an overall amazing teacher. I recommend you take his late start class, it was great! The pace was fast, but i actually learned something. I worked very hard (Im NOT good at writing) but the effort and his teaching paid off. I got an A.
Gives a lot of assignments, 4 major papers and about 3 small papers per week, plus grammar assignments and 2 extra papers at the end. If you don't mind the work I would definitely recommend taking him. As long as you pay attention, do the work, and sit all the way in the front he'll like you. Textbook is unneeded even though he says otherwise.
I havent finished the quarter, but I would like people to know that Magie is an alright teacher. He gives lots of HW. Read previous persons comment. He changes the due dates quite often because he goes off topic in his lectures. If you dont mind hard work, then take his class. I dont recommend his class to those looking for an easy A.

This course is directed toward baseball and U.S. Culture. He is very passionate about the game which brings enjoyment to the classroom. He is there early every day giving you his A Game and expects the same in return. If you spend dilegant time studying the text book assigned, then you should be alright.
Took him for ENG201.Honestly, Professor Magie is a good guy. I found his class rather interesting.He is very funny, although he does talk a lot. His grading is harsh, but what do you expect from a Sophomore level english class?There is a lot of HW and papers due almost every class period,so this is definitely a "grade you deserve" class. Work hard!

Harder class, but bearable. His random jokes he spits out will make anyone laugh. Knows everyones name by the second week. Don't waste money on buying the textbook, only used it for one reading which is online. He says "at any rate" a lot too...
Always dressed well, very passionate about what he instructs, and very to the point about his expectations of his students. This class is a challenge and you WILL work for your grade, but working with him is a very rewarding experience.
This teacher is quite clear as to what he expects. You must do all your work to do well in this course. You don't really need his MLA text book because he will show you a free resource online. He is a bit of a tough grader but if you meet with him and have him walk through your work then you'll do fine. It's alright to miss a few lectures because he's great at posting stuff on his website, but I recommend showing up. For this class you have 4 big papers and 10 critical responses.
Expects a lot from his student but doesn't take the time to explain things well. He tries to be sophisticated when he explains things which only makes it harder to understand. He goes off on random tangents, thinks he's funny, and honestly I don't even know why I stayed in his class. I felt like he was teaching history; I do not recommend him
If you are not majoring in English, then i do not recommend this class. Especially if English was not your first language. He grades very precise and almost is too intense if a student it just taking the class to meet credit requirements. If you are majoring, then he does teach some useful writing concepts and ideas.
Probably one of the worst teachers at BC. Doesn't teach you anything and expects your writing to be phenomenal. He loves to insult his students indirectly by showing their papers on the board. He is very good at pointing out your flaws but doesn't know how to teach you. Don't take his class. Save your money.
Magie's curriculum is way too intense for an English 101 class. He gives students too hefty of a work load and doesn't teach how to improve your writing. He recommends that you do outside of class help to improve. Magie's meathod does not work well. If you try to talk to him, he doesn't help you much at all. The student is always the one to blame.

Way too difficult for an english 101 class. He expects you to already be writing at a professional level and grades to this as a standard. Doesn't follow his syllabus, slow at grading, overall ineffective at teaching. He can also be very degrading.
he goes off topic. but he is cool..kind of an aZZ hole, if you don't understand the way he thinks (which is out loud) but a nice guy....just pay attention and and keep up with the class and you will love the class....he teaches with a lot of passion which is awesome.
he is a very tough grade and he does not follow his own syllabus. You will spend a lot of time in making critical responses, major paper and online homework, so make sure you do not take a lot of credits. He always goes off topic and runs out of time to explain about the major paper or readings. Take another teacher if you can.
Bad guy.
I took the 101/260 combo course. Work load is hefty and there are required reading up to 100 pages!! He's outspoken and passionate about the material. Attendance is "mandatory" but he was willing to work with me on a lot of things. Very understanding. Should've failed but he graced me with a C+ after a few conversations. Offers extra credit too.
A very bad teacher. His standard is way too high for college student. He does give feedback for each paper submitted but it doesn't help because it's not clear as to what he really want from students. He always ask student to get their paper checked at the writing lab but we still get a bad grade after going there. What he taught is barely useful.
Took Magie for 2 quarters. He isn't for lazy people or students who have terrible writing skills (and weak emotions) as he will tear your paper apart in class. However, his criticism is well placed and he will make you a better writer and a better reader. An absolute joy to listen to speak in class, his language skills are very refined. Loved him.
Stay far away from this professor. Didn't feel like an English class, more like history. He constantly goes off topic, and never provides enough to help with the huge work load. He can also be very rude and loves to point out all the wrong things you did and never, ever gives praise for a job well done. Stay away unless you want to fail a class.
Honestly, Yes his Eng 101 class is hard mainly because he is use to teaching 201.. what I learned is if you ask for help, participate, and be one on one with him, you will pass. He is an Amazing and highly intelligent professor to study under. Just ask question and have him critique your papers. He gave me a C because he understood my life. -RC

He grades his essays super hard and nobody in my class that i know of has received an A on any of the essays. He's picky and it's impossible to read his chicken scratchings. Any feedback received will no likely help you on future assignments. He's moody and calls students out. As a person, he is ok. But sucks as a professor.
Unfortunately not a very good professor, hardly uses book, has expectation that you should already be able to write research paper. He side bars with random stories. Hard grader and unable to read notes on graded papers. Very bad at giving back prior homework assignments. He prides himself on being an academic with arrogance.

This teacher is completely insane. He would shout at students, throw pens, and prattled on about how amazing Alaska/the puget sound is when he was supposed to be talking about the Harlem Renaissance. Worst teacher I've ever had.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He will not grade your work or provide any kind of feed back what so ever to how you are doing. If you ask him for feedback he says "If you haven't heard from me, you're fine". I am learning NOTHING in this class. I hope I pass just to get the credits and move on, but it will hurt your GPA.
He's really intelligent and his lectures are great--totally fascinating--but he's really strict, a bit mean, and a really hard grader. Would not recommend unless you're ok with taking a ribbing from your teacher, don't have problems with attendance or late work, and aren't taking another class at the same time. I wouldn't take him again.
He is extremely strict. However, he is fascinating to listen to. You cannot slack in this class and you MUST follow all the directions. He takes a long time to pass papers back which gets irritating, but he makes you a better writer. I can guarantee it. You MUST try your hardest because he is tough grader. An easy A is not expected. DON'T TAKE HIM. I took his 101 class. The next quarter when I took a 201 class, they talked about topics that I should have learned in 101, which Magie NEVER talked about. He threw us straight into writing with no explaining like a 101 class should have. Turns out his 271 class was the same material, readings, assignments etc. as the 101 class.
This guy was a replacement for Michael Meyer, who left us early into the quarter. He gives us a huge workload as if this was the only class we were taking at the college. He treats this class as if were a 200 level class and it's crazy. It's so unfair that we got stuck with this guy. Terrible, terrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE.
Horrible teacher, was a replacement for Myers and started out by following what we initially started doing and then threw a huge work load on us that Myers was not doing and didn't follow his teaching method at all. He gets off topic a lot in class and never grades anything so you never know if you are passing or not. Would not recommend!

Originally registered for Michael Meyer, but got stuck with this guy when Michael left. Ewan's handwriting is illegible, and his notes "characterize more, describe less" are of no help at all! Diverged completely from Meyer's coursework. Nobody received an A on the first essay. All bad.
Very mad that I got stuck in his class since he took over for my original teacher. He is inconsiderate of our workload and docks us points for not having enough copies of our paper. Uses inappropriate language and told us that our papers were crap. I feel very disrespected as a student, and I didn't even know that was possible.

This teacher should just be reported to the dean. I retook English 101 with other teacher and get A with essays that has the same quality as the one I submitted to this teacher. This proves that he only want to see people struggle. He doesn't have the right to be called teacher. He should just be an article critics given his harsh impolite mouth.
Magie is a good teacher, he enjoys teaching and loves his topic. Just don't expect an easy class. There will be a lot of writing and reading, and Magie isn't an easy grader either. However, he does try his best to be clear on assignments, and he is really enthusiastic about travel literature: his topic of choice.

I can see why many students would be frustrated with this class, it is rather fast paced. Personally, though, I really appreciated it. I feel Magie is exceptionally passionate about his subject. He does have quirks, and tends to live in his own literary world, but it can be fun if you attempt to engage in it. You must enjoy reading to some extent.
So far, he is the most horrible teacher I've ever had. the amount of homework in his class is unreasonable. Don't take his class unless you have no life outside of school. it is as if he thought english is the only class you are taking right now. in his class, you'll have to read, write and travel. he will destroy your daily routine. !!AVOID!!
Let me start off by saying he is the type of professor that if you get a 69.999 percent on your final grade, he is not rounding up even if someone died. Start of the quarter you write 2 bogus busy work papers that don't help you at all. The final two paper are what matter. Will never take a class by him at all, trust me don't TAKE IT.
I had to do about an essay a week, and he never taught us how to do a research paper until the very end. But even so, the material given was interesting and it opened my eyes to how society and the media really is and some injustices that befall it. He is fairly harsh and strict, but if you get your work done and do your best then it isn't that bad

Gets side tracked in class: begins sharing storiesrandom fact about life, interesting lectures but i didn't learn a thing on how to make a research paper. He shows an outline during major papers and doesn't talk about major papers after he shows outline on whiteboard, which can be vague. Grades tough, gives weekly one paper summaries, late grader.
He is a though grader like you've got to work double as hard as you do in other English classes because he's grade standards are one letter below other English teachers. He does sometimes get pissed over nothing, but in general he is a funny guy. You would need the Fahrenheit 451 book, but not the other one. I didn't even open the other one.
I can't stand this instructor. He has a chip on his shoulder. He wanted to teach somewhere else, but couldn't get a job there. I got a B+ in his class, but didn't learn Jack. Not very organized, way too tough grader for the limited amount of teaching he does in his class. Take someone else who wants to teach English. He is not funny.
Firstly, this is college. Expect homework. This is English 201, after all. If you didn't understand a lecture (or his handwriting), he will be happy to help you out. Magie is a fair grader, and will happily point out everything wrong with your paper. I would recommend him to those who are not looking for an easy A, but are interested in learning.
Worst teacher I have ever had in BC. I though if i put effort i will be fine but that is not what happened. He gave me full credits for most of my assignments and after the quarter was over i found out I had a C. He doesn't help at all, he just tells you to go to the writing lab. Dont take his class if you care about your GPA.
The BIGGEST thing is he calls on you and puts you on the spot and makes you feel embarrassed, there is also reading aloud during class somedays. This Professor new what we was talking about which was nice but he wasn't clear on a few assignments, so the whole class had problems with that. overall I will probably never take a class from him again.
Before I decided to take this class I came here and he had an okay rating. He was my second option because he had the most openings. There is a lot of reading and a lot of assignments due every class. He is not an easy grader so this class is not an easy A. He does not pass assignments back right away so I have no idea what I have. Choose wisely.
He lectures for a long time and easily gets off topic. I do not recommend this class! He takes FOREVER to grade and does not post grades on Canvas or anywhere. Only found out i had a B, by the end of the quarter.
Not sure what everyone is talking about. Magie is a fantastic professor. He cares about his course and shows lots of enthusiasm for his curriculum. Most of the comments posted seem like they are from spoiled children who just don't want to do the work. Do the work and put in the effort and you'll get an A.

This class was a lot of hard work for an unclear grading criteria that cost me the GPA I had been working towards. Magie spent twenty minutes of class time on paper-writing, but then the rest of the hour lecturing on a random topic. He also publicly reviews your papers. I left this class frustrated I'm a hard worker, and I got burned pretty bad.
best professor ever, I think I found the greatest english teacher in world at bellevue collge. very loving and emotional teacher, he really goes in between the lines, he loves what he is teaching and encourage students to open up and enjoy the class. All the readings so far are the best topics and about I just love the environment and his teaching
Majority of class time was spent on unfocused and off-topic lectures. He tells you how and what to write and doesn't provide opportunity for your own voice to come through. The assigned readings were incredibly boring and the work was monotonous. Don't come into class late-- he will glare at you for the rest of the quarter!
