Super easy..just do what he asks you to do. Grading very lenient, you can miss up to 6 times, and he excepts late work if you explain why its late. Class can get a little boring, but he doesn't really care if you do other work. Only assignmetns are papers, no tests. Class disscussions almost every class..but he does not make you participate!

LOVE this teacher. No tests, only a handful of essays. Worksheet exercises that cover what was done in class that day, but are usually multiple choice and only take a few minutes. accepts late work, grades easy. Really down to earth nice guy. "The Metamorphosis" was SO boring but he didn't write it so nothing negative on him there. HIGHLY recommend

The teacher presented the material very well. He has a very good grading system that is helps you see where your strengths and weakness are. He goes out of his way to help you when you need it. I recommend this teacher highly.

Very good teacher! he explains everything really well and is really helpful outside of class. If you want an A though you have to really work at it and always show up to class because the in class assignments are a HUGE percent of the grade.

Great professor he is pretty funny and down to earth. The essays are kinda lengthy 5 pages each and you have 4 of them. He has no tests and that is a plus. He is very young only like 28 or so.

Cool guy, great teacher. He is very forgiving and understanding for non-traditional students. He has a good sense of humor. When I had him as an instructor he was starting up a fencing club.

The only reason he has such high remarks, is because mostly females are reviewing him. They just like to look at him. As a teacher he is kind and does it well. BUT he is SUPER boring. He's incredibly dull when he talks, not much of a personality. Snore fest really. He was a great teacher, besides the mentioned issue.

He is helpful and understanding, make sure you keep up with the reading he assigns because he has pop quizzes often, strict grading on grammar and punctuation in the essays, but it teaches you to be a better writer. Had him for 1102 and he is a GREAT teacher. He gives several EASY extra credit opportunities. He's hilarious and makes class interesting. He does count attendance, gives lots of quizzes, and you write 4 lengthy essays, and the final is a short in class essay. He gave us several days off just to work on our papers which helped alot! Fencing is great! I became pretty good at it. I tried not missing class because, he does count for attendance. He only has 5 things he counts : attendance, participation, midterm, fencing journal, and final. Midterm you do have to study and for final you do have to know the moves. He is super sweet and not bad to look at!

Fencing was a lot of fun! You have to show up to every class or he will deduct 5 points from your attendance- which is 40% of your grade. You take a final, a midterm (which were both easy) and participate in a class tournament. FUN CLASS.

Professor Black makes a boring subject pretty interesting. He incorporated fencing into 1102 and actually faced off with someone in fencing for a class period! I highly recommend him to anyone taking English at UNG. Take no other professor! His grading is very fair and he offers to proof read papers before you turn them in. 1010 would do again.

Four papers and a few online quizzes, thats it. Attendance is mandatory You are going to want to skip his class everyday but you are only allowed 2 absences. Its a really boring class. But easy. GO TO THE WRITING LAB, because the little errors ADD UP on your papers and you'll be perfect. Its an easy B. He is a little awkward and super laid back.

The only "knock" on Professor Black is that his grading is a little inconsistent and I would opine that he grades on his expectations of his different students. Ten percent of your grade is attendance (a policy I hate) so show up for class.

Black's class is really boring. I love English, it is my favorite subject but this class put me to sleep. You only write one paper, but read 30 books. He is so nice and will always help you, he allows you to re-do your class work if you get a bad grade. Only 2 tests and 1 paper. The tests are long but fairly easy if you read the material. Good professor overall. His papers are tough and he grades strict, but he is willing to proofread your papers. His assignments: everyone typically gets 100's on and at the end of the semester he allows everyone to retake some quizzes and bring their grade up. As long as you follow his directions for writing you get an A or B.

He is young, very humble, but need more confidence. He made us practice all types of format in all of our four papers. Does take attendance, has a couple of online quizzes and minor assignments. The final is one of the four pages. Does not offer a book.

Professor Black is awesome! Although his class can tend to be boring at times, when is Grammar not boring? He cares about students and does a good job at making the material he is presenting, clear and easy to understand. He doesn't use textbooks or handouts, which is a plus. He grades really tough but plenty of easy assignments to pad your grade.

Professor Black is an excellent instructor. I learned so many writing skills in his class that have been hugely beneficial for me in other classes as well. The course is lecture-heavy with online quizzes and 4 essays. His essay grading is strict, but his instructions and expectations are well-defined, and he is always available to assist students.

His whole course relates being in touch with the student and helping students with common problems. He will help check papers, makes class interesting to the point where it doesnt even feel like an hour and 25 min, he barely gave out hw, and helped out with quizzes. Im pretty sad that this only lasts a semester

Prof. Black is a good ENGL1101 and 1102 professor. He is clear with what he expects from each paper. The lengths of papers arent too long and are manageable with a full course load. This class improved my writing.

This guy is amazing! Provides clear criteria to essays and assignments. He explains grammar very well and provides many examples. 4 essays, discussions on D2L, and a couple of grammar quizzes is all this class is.

Great professor of choice to learn from. Lectures are direct and simplified so that students can learn. Quizzes are hard and forces students to think but they're only 5% of your entire grade. 300 word discussion a week including replying to students. 4 papers. Reason for 4/5 rating is because having wrong grammar counts about 15% of essay.

Professor Black was overall my favorite for my very first year in college. He is incredibly kind and takes the time to listen to concerns. He has your back at all times. There are 4 total papers for this class, all of which are on fun topics and subjects. The quizzes are a breeze. Would definitely recommend taking him.

If you're a freshman at UNG, take him for ENGL 1101! Each essay is interesting so nothing is boring to write. Material is taught through games and there's lots of extra credit with them. There's a few ice-breaker activities. He uses a lot of helpful guides on grammar and style. Pay attention and you'll 100% learn to write better. Final is a breeze.

There are 4 essays, just be sure to turn them in on time. Lots of opportunities to earn extra credit. 2 tries per quiz and most are taken in class. Attendance matters, so go to class. Can only miss 1 day with no penalty. Essays are graded per each TYPE of mistake (not each mistake), so his grading isn't really that harsh. Easy-going professor!

Good teacher! Explains what he grades for very well. He tries to keep things entertaining so lectures aren't too boring. Just take the papers seriously and focus on what he says he will grade on don't focus on the writing itself too much. Definitely good to take for those that struggle with writing.

Dr. Black was not a super hard grader. The paper outlines were easy to follow and to understand. He wants you to succeed. A discussion and at least one quiz every week. 2 attempts per quiz. Final was not too difficult. If I could have him as a professor again I would!

4 essays, the guidelines are very clear, and he will grade following them. Breaks down the concepts in class and will do quizzes with the class as a whole. Final exam is done together, and everyone receives the same grade. I'm not the best at writing but I did good in the class by simply following the guidelines. Cannot recommend him enough!

Very professional, caring, and respectful.Decently easy class,I didn't like the essay topics.They were kind of controversial. Would have been better to pick a topic that you were passionate about. Although the topics weren't horrible. Group based activities, you gain extra credit by playing a series of literature games.Easy to talk to communicate.
