A great Professor --He is really pasionate about History and considers his students feed back --GREAT
Rarely leaves relevant information out, everything is discussed in detail. Great professor! One of the few of a dying breed...
Dr. Walker is an excellent history teacher! He is always there to help the students, great class discussions, and he is a genuine person! I highly recommend him to anyone!
One of the best professors I have encountered at UCF, has a genuine love of teaching and his students, one of the nicest people you will ever find.
Dr. Walker is great. He has a genuine interest in his students, and knows them by name. His tests are essay, and he provides study guides to aid students with the tests. Attendence does count!!!!
I love history but this is college- stop taking attendance! I got an A on all the exams but missed ONE class and got a B since he has something to do (in class essays) EVERY class period.. and you cant make it up.
This guy is an awesome teacher. I had it at 7:30 in the morning and was still able to pay attention because he keeps the class interested. He knows everyone's name and gets the class involved in discussions. Super nice person.
Wonderful. Daily plans and notes show exhausting preparation and careful coverage of material. I feel priviledged to have been in his class.
What a great job Dr. Walker does. His perspectives are lucid and intelligent. You have to come to class, but I can't imagine wanting to miss it. Someone you really feel comfortable learning from.
Great Professor!!! He knows everyone’s name and he's always glad you came. I enjoyed going to his class. Study class notes, read the relevant material, do his study guides, and you should get an A or B. I wish UCF had more professors like him:-)
Great Teaching style. Asks students questions to make them feel involved. Take notes, he gives great exam reviews, tests arent too bad. An enthusiastic and knowledgable person, excellent teacher!
Good teacher, very knowledgable, open to student discussion, gives study guides for exams, NOT an easy A, take him if you want to learn something about African Hist.
Wonderful Professor. Always goes out of his way to help. Great review sessions and a brilliant man.
Dr. Walker is wonderful. This class is not a breeze and you must study and do your homework to understand the history of Africa. He bends over backwards going over the test study guide and gives you handouts for the notes. He is extremely fair about grading. Tests are T/F, Mult. choice and essay.
very interesting classes. amazing personality.i do recommend his classes to everyone.
he is my favorite teacher. take him if you can. gives great notes and tells you exactly what is on the tests. take him if you can
Initially I thought this class was going to be very interesting and thought provoking but I ended up not wanting to go to the class. The professor is superb but I'm just not interested in African History.
He makes this class that could potentially be hard, very easy.He tells you word for word what will be on the test.Show up for class, let him know your there and get familiar with the notes he prints out for you and youll most likely pass with a B or higher. His laugh is funny sounding...humorous
Dr Walker has become one of my favorite Professors at UCF. He is very fair and clear on his tests. It is NOT an easy A! He really grades on what people but into the course.(very smart that way!!) His book choices are excellent and read the books! His lectures are always interesting. LOVE HIM!!!
What cam I say? A wonderful Professor. He is very knowledgeable on the subject of Africa. ALso, being from Negeria. His exams are all essay, hard to earn a A. He will work with you on any problems. I tell all hist. majors to take him. Great man and asset to the Hist. Dept.
I LOVED this class. South African history might seem like a daunting subject, but it turned out to be my favorite class. He'll tell you the exact questions and answers to the exams, and as long as you study and work on them, you should be guaranteed to get an A. I did!
He is the best history teacher I've ever had. He has complete knowledge of the subject. I definitly recommend this teacher if you have the chance to take him; not the easiest class, but very interesting
Where to begin..this professor has so many virtues. His attitude is positive. he gives all the answers to the essay questions. however you need to know them like the back of your hand or you won't get an A (that's the difficulty).said he will only give 9 "A"s out of 40 students. is very flexible, will change test dates etc, almost a pushover.
Great Teacher, knows what he is doing. Not the easiest course, but study hard and attend the lectures as much as possible and you'll do fine.
AWESOME PROFESSOR! makes the course interesting. for the test, gives enough material to get a 'B'. seems to enjoy what he's doing, articulate, very respectful and extremely well-rounded.
Very enjoyable class. He is willing to tell you about stuff that is slightly off topic that you find interesting. He has a slight accent, but that is not a problem. Study the information he gives you beforehand (the answers to the test) and you'll do fine.
This is the best teacher I have ever had!He keeps lectures interesting and is genuinely concerned for his students academic welfare! Take this class. I recommed this teacher for everyone.Be respectful, show up to class, take good notes and the rest is stuff he takes care of. Best. class. ever.
Very Good Teacher! Very helpfull and is involved in the academics of student. If I was not graduating I would try to take another class with Him.
Fun professor who is really funny and smart! Gives answers to tests, midterm, and final beforehand & gives you enough material to get an "A" or "A-." In-class assignments are on book reading and reaction papers to films are also given (they're few, though). However, don't participate in class & you'll get a "B." Overall, fun & easy class to take!
no bad reviews at all? i wonder why? it's because he is the man! very nice, intelligent, and funny. class is EASY. dont buy textbook just buy 2 short novels u have to read. a couple reaction papers on movies (1 written page), 3 exams(mostly essay) which he gives study guide for and goes over COMPLETE answers. hard not to get B. great class
Dr. Walker is simply amazing. He really knows his stuff. Don't expect to get an "A" without participating, though. Grade consists of 3 tests (rev. session will give you list of vocab to rev. and what he wants from essays), participation, in-class writing, book assignment. Walker is a really great guy and a quality teacher. Highly recommended!!
Great teacher! One of the best proffs. at UCF. Genuinely interested in students learning and wonderfully accomadating if sick during test etc. FULL, FULL, Full review before 3 tests and a few in class written assignments. Big on attendance and participation . I got an A and walked away with a new found respect for Africa and a wealth of knowledge.
GREAT TEACHER!! South African History. He gives a FULL review before every test. only 3 tests, + participation/attendance and 2 sall reaction pappers. i def reccomend to everyone! BEST PROF at UCF!
Great professor, loves his students, puts himself on the students level and interacts with the class. Strong class participation necessary. Reviews for tests. Writing assignments with interesting topics. Will take world civ 2 in the future!
Had him for History of S. Africa. Dr. Walker is an amazing man, I highly recommend taking this class. 2-3 tests, a couple essay tests on two books, a few response papers to films. I wish I had a reason to enroll in more of his classes, but this was my final semester. I will NEVER forget Dr. Walker. The last day of class was bittersweet.
Incredible teacher. Brilliant thinker. Most important, a really nice guy. Everyone loves Dr. Walker - would easily take him again.
By far, the best professor I've ever had at UCF. Professor Walker is a really nice teacher, and relates information well. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. The basics: grade consists of in-class document analysis, participation, and 3 major tests. The final may be optional, depending on how your class behaves.
Awesome teacher! Very positive environment in the classroom. Class participation is a must, but he promotes a safe environment for students to participate. Gave full reviews for each exam. He ended up making our final optional. He was very entertaining and overall a great professor!
Professor Walker really makes you interested in African History. His passionate about Africa and this rubs off on students. He makes class enjoyable, but you are also learning a lot at the same time. I love this guy!
AMAZING. Best professor I've ever had. Truly cares about his students. Gives you all the notes, all the answers for all the essay questions on the test, and tells you what else to review. Final is optional and would replace your second test grade if you do better. He truly wants everyone to pass. I had no interest in history, but he's amazing.
Great teacher and offers a lot of help to his students. One main research paper (about 20 pgs) with two shorter papers (3 pgs apiece). Does not focus as intently on citations as other professors which is a pro and con depending on whether or not you care. Overall, a very sweet man who made a boring class rather enjoyable.
OMG!!! You must take Dr.Walker. You will learn so much and he is from Africa and will share his stories with you. There are 2 book quizes that are essay, 3 tests, 1 map quiz and attendence as your grade. Full review before every test.
I do not rate Dr Walker as high as the others for several reasons: First he was late to class just about every day. Second he has no understanding of his audio visual system. Once he cancelled class because he could not get a video cassette to work. Another time he called in help to get it started and we lost half the class.
Great teacher. He wants us all to do well. He makes it basically impossible to get anything below a B if you actually do your work. The class overall was easy. The final is optional. Participation is a small part of the grade but it helps. He raised my grade the half a point I needed for an A bc of participation.
Very easy A because he mostly isn't rigid about knowing/memorizing lots of historical facts. It's largely general concepts and writing skills that count, therefore bs-able. Don't stress over participation. Make 1 comment each time and you are definitely good to go. Participation doesn't hurt really, only helps.
Dr. Walker is seriously the friendliest person in existence. Helpful in anything if you talk to him, and always interesting to listen to. You will not leave the class without a desire to hug him.
I am in his honors class and he is a wonderful teacher. He goes out of his way to be friendly and loves class participation. He makes the subjects interesting and loves sharing stories. Over all he is a great teacher. Being able to analyze primary documents is a must.
Honors: He was just ok. Take notes because not all ques. on exams come from the book. You have to analyze many documents/ write essays but you can learn what he looks for. Participation in discussions and attendance is mandatory. He tends to laugh at you if you say something he's not looking for.
Honors. Some work is required like taking notes but it is an honors class, you can't slack off. He is a genuinely nice person and truly cares about every single student. He is astoundingly smart and expects class participation. He is easily one of my favorite professors. The analyzing is easy and doable. He is such a great professor!
Professor Walker is by far one of my favorite professor. He took a subject I wasn't previously interested in and changed my mind. He is extremely nice and will help with whatever you need. The hardest part of the class in that all exams are written in class. Provides major points though. I am excited to be taking him again next semester!
Great teacher, from Africa so he has been to many places that we talk about. Two books you must read and in a closed book in class writing assignment, he grades pretty easy. Gives great reviews for test, test are short answer, mc, tf and 3 essay. he gives essays a few days early and will tell you the key points to answers. easy and you can learn
Dr. Walker is one of the kindest and most knowledgeable professors I have ever had. He is incredibly passionate about the subject he teaches, and he loves his students. His class is structured fairly, and he makes it easy to get a good grade while learning a lot about the subject material as well. I highly recommend him.
Ezekiel Walker is by far the nicest professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Willing to do anything for his students and exceptionally bright. If you can take him for anything do so, an incredibly talented and interesting man.
Best teacher I've had at UCF! Dr.Walker is so passionate about what he teaches you that it makes you want to come to class. Gives you review sheets for each tests and the final is optional. Take his class if you can! So inspiring.
One of the best teachers I have had so far. He is extremely enthusiastic and always willing to help. The class is not difficult, and he is very forgiving in his grades. I highly recommend him!
Amazing guy. Be careful with him higher level classes he lets you take control OR Your own papers early , very easy to procrastinate
An amazing educator, high standards, excellent professor!
His enthusiasm for the material is still most palpable. Fantastic speaker. Fair in grading. All I recommend is that you be sure. It looks interesting in theory but I found it dry, inconsequential in practice. It lends itself only seldom to contemporary arguments or discussion among friends. More akin to trivia. Kola nuts!
Dr. Walker is one of the nicest and most enthusiastic professors I have ever had. Most of his lectures are interesting, and he gets the class involved in discussions. As long as you go to class and take notes, you will be able to get good grades on the tests. Although the tests can be challenging, he is pretty lenient with grading.
I took the honors world history class he teaches and he was pretty goofy. Very understanding when I had to miss class for work purposes and basically handed everyone an A. If you can read a short document and write on it and memorize the answers to the tests THAT HE GIVES YOU then you've got your self an A or A-. Don't buy the textbook.
I've taken a class with Dr. Walker before, and I'll do so again if I can. He loves his students very much and takes great pleasure in them learning. He's a hilarious guy who gives interesting and engaging lectures. Participate in class, give thorough analysis of the primary documents, follow his study guides, and you'll do great and learn a lot.
Love him. One of the best professors I have had here. He was very bubbly which was nice in a morning class. He loves teaching and it shows. If you study the tests aren't too bad. He is so sweet and funny. If I needed any help or clarifications he would answer right away. Definitely recommend. I would love to talk another class with him.
9AM came early, but Walker made it worth it. His lectures are second to none, riveting, and his passion radiates off his smiling laughing face. I took his history of Africa to 1870. Never cracked a book, though I am very good at Sparknotes-ing. Easy-easy A, IF you're a good writer and participate in class discussion. Overall a Top UCF professor.
He made the final OPTIONAL. Yes. You read that correctly. Walker is from Nigeria, and very passionate about his history and beloved African yams. Just kidding, but really. He loves the things. Easy A for any student who's decent writer. His tests weren't bad at all, and the books were great, easy reads, which everyone should honestly read anyway
Dr. Walker is a great professor, but just not for me. I am not interested in African history what so ever. It was the hardest thing to do to stay awake in his class. If you are interested in this subject take him if not DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!
Interesting lectures, but I never seemed to manage higher than a B- on his tests no matter how hard I studied. Got lots of points taken off for lack of participation so speak up in class.
Took Walker for Summer B to help with the History minor. Not only did I learn way more than I thought I would about Africa, but I loved his teaching style. Most lectures are discussion based - he's supportive of all answers given and weaves them into questions for the exams. If you liked Michael McConville, you'll love this guy (he taught for him).
Cool teacher. Grading system can be whack sometimes but you'll pass. He does lecture but when hes done you can leave, he usually finishes 15 minutes before the ending time for class so you do get out early from time to time. He Loves YAMS! but I dont recommend bringing them to class, he thinks American Yams are a joke.
Took him in Summer 16 for 3100 and again in Fall for 3930. Would recommend to anyone. You need to be a great writer by contextualizing topics in the scope of the course's history (all of it) in order to get the A. Only in that regard is it a hard class. You're there to learn, and he will teach. Also, he's so damn cool.
Dr. Walker is hilarious. Two big exams that make up a lot of the grade, but a very easy A, and he is very friendly and accommodating of students' needs. He is great!
I'm pretty sure there isn't a malicious bone in Dr. Walker's body, and for a subject like African history that can have a lasting effect. It's immediately obvious that he greatly cares about both the subject and the students. My only regret is that I've taken all of the courses he's offered already.
An excellent lecturer who gives out a handout at the beginning of his lectures that has all the notes you need, but he organizes his thoughts and gives context. Graded exams involve a lot of writing, but he prepares you well for writing essays. Absolutely excellent professor, 14/10.
So, I took him online and I did not receive the same experience with him as others on here. He is not present. Each week, you just read a chapter from the textbook and take the quiz. There's a few papers on a book and movie, but there is no powerpoint or lecture. It's basically teaching yourself. You'll need the textbook.
Very caring professor who is willing to work with you throughout the semester. Lectures were informative and pretty engaging. Exams and other assignments (primary doc analysis) involve a fair amount of writing, but nothing too crazy. We also wrote an essay on Things Fall Apart which related well to the content we learned. Easy to mod. difficult A.
Nicest teacher/professor I have ever had. Every time anyone answered any question, he would compliment their answer regardless of what it was. He grades pretty easily and gives you all the answers before the test. I'm not sure why. He responds to emails in two minutes with clear answers. He couldn't have done anything better. Love him.
Very nice professor. One quiz each week and just a few written essays that are not long. The textbooks are used for the quizzes and essays. Easy A for sure so long as you do the assignments on time then there is literally no excuse for failing the class.
He is the sweetest people I've ever met. Everyone adored him. He loves participation and is very encouraging, which makes class more engaging. He's from Africa, which gives cool background to the material. Every test had a direct study guide, and he reviews material very well. I feel emotionally uplifted by just hearing him talk. Great guy.
One of the best professors I've ever had! I loved his class and he really cares about his students. His assignments werent too easy, and not too hard. I learned so much from his class. Also he reviews the quizzes and gives points back. Even though I had him online, still LOVED him. Take one of his classes if you have the chance, you wont regret it!
Quiz every week, but worth a small percentage of grade, and bottom 2 are dropped. Two movie/discussions and two book/essay assignments. Literally every quiz needed an adjustment as the questions were weirdly worded or the written answer was slightly off. Overall I enjoyed the material and did well with the course.
Great Professor, Really cares about his students.
Professor Walker's lectures are highly engaging and entertaining (you should participate!) He clearly cares about students and does everything he can to help you with the material; his study guides are all you need to ace his exams. If you like writing or are a good writer, you'll do well in this class. Overall a superb professor. Highly recommend.
Professor Walker gives some of the most informative lectures I've ever had. Every test is quite easy, since he posts very informative study guides. All writing assignments are very brief (250 word requirement). He would be 5/5 if he was a bit more literate with Webcourses, but he's an absolute treasure.
Professor Walker was such a kind and understanding professor. He has a clear schedule for every week which usually consists of reading two chapters from the textbook and completing a quiz. He emails chapter summaries every week that help with the quiz as well. We also have to read two books throughout the semester. Overall an amazing professor!
Simple quizzes and 250-word writing assignments just be prepared to read two books, the textbook, and a one-hour movie. However, the professor extended the assignments so you have plenty of time to do them. 10 chapter quizzes and two tests based on the chapters with the questions being the same as the quizzes. Easy A class with interesting material
My favorite class this semester. His lectures are so engaging and thoughtful. You will WANT to participate. He also makes sure his students are well-prepared for all exams. I would highly recommend Dr. Walker!
Dr. Walker is a very understanding professor who does everything he can to enable student success. He is knowledgeable on African history and provides summaries of each chapter, which are related to the weekly quizzes. There are two discussion assignments and one essay apart from the quizzes and midterm/final exams. Would definitely take again.
Prof. Walker is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject area, I only wish that I could take this course in person! The format is very simple for a higher-level class and expectations are crystal clear. There are so many opportunities to do well and his study guides nearly give you all of the answers and relevant info
Professor Walker was great. Light workload (weekly quizzes, two exams, final essay), interesting material, and engaging. Minor complaints: no feedback on the final paper and odd sending of chapter summaries in announcements instead of just putting them in the modules. Overall, the course was approachable and interesting. Highly recommend.
I have had a great experience in his South African History class this semester. He is well informed in what he is teaching, and as long as you participate and work hard for his assignments, you will pass the class. He is single-handily the reason why I plan on taking his History of Africa Since 1870 class this upcoming summer semester.
Awesome Teacher
Fantastic class. Reading a chapter every week, powerpoint & word doc summary posted, short quiz, and occasional movie assignments. One essay due by the end of the semester. Highly recommend.
He is great! I would take him again. He does assign a quiz weekly, but he gives you two attempts. If you have any questions or doubts, he is there to answer your emails quickly. Recommend 100 percent!!!!!
