Avoid at all costs! She assigns too much homework, does not explain things very well, and assigns problems she cannot do. Willing to talk if you come to her office, but be exact with your question. To sum it up she divides by zero (if you know what I mean)
Good teacher, pay attention in class and get an A. Exams are quite simple, just practice a lot for speed.

Awful! Avoid at all costs. I am getting an A in spite of her teaching, not because of her teaching. She does not seem to like students. Maybe she should stay in an office. No sense of humor. Unfriendly. Does not motivate students.
Got my first C in her class! She sucks! She offers you to do a bunch of hmwk problems, but you get no credit. 5 tests for the entire course, so you got to do well on all to pull of an A! Plus, here tests are poorly worded, and you don't have enough time
I honestly didn't do much homework, but on one test I realized how bad the class was doing when the 28% I got was the highest score out of the students sitting next to me--doesn't teach enough. You need to do all the work, but there's no credit for it.
F. Mary is her name. The F is for the letter grade she deserves as a teacher and the letter grade most often assigned to students. Never, never take this person.
May God have pity on her soul... rather, what's left of it. Tip 1: don't take her. Tip 2: if you're foolish enough to do so, don't take her when the weather is warm (her exposed flabby arms will inevitably distract you).
Oh how I wish I had read these reviews of her before I took her section. Why OH why OH why??? She is sooooo bad that folks just got up during the first exam and left screaming down the hall. READ the other reviews and then DROP HER COURSE
terrible

A lot of homework and not enough time for test... this teacher is unfriendly
1. She doesn't explain, nor help us to understand the points. She just throws everything on the board and expects us to understand. 2. She is hardly on time. The two tests we have taken, she was 5 min late at least. 3. She doesn't help students with Qs.
I've never had a teacher who feels if a student doesn't understand a concept, they desrve to get it wrong. That is, until this instructor. She went so far as to give the assistant's area a copy of questions they were not to halp us with.
She's not as bad as everyone makes her out to be. I consider her tests to be easier than other calc teachers. She goes as far as to give you a study guide, which spells out exactly what will be on the test.
she is not that bad..

She's not good at explaining what she's doing and she does multiple steps at once making it very difficult to follow.
She didn't seem concerned about reaching the student...just about having told you and you should NOW understand what she told you.
She is a fine teacher, at this level of math, she explain every step. She give you a throughly hand out to study before an exam. And you have to love her nice handwriting.
She has come late and unprepared to every class. This woman is a travesty and should be removed if the administrators cared about student learning. AWFUL! Bad temper with poor prep EQUALS waste of time. Give F Mary an F!
i love her, but she's not easy, and i had to work my tush off.. i did every assignment twice and read the chapters, and visit her for help, but i got A's in both classes. her grading can sometimes be frustrating--points off for not simplifying, etc.
She is great at Math.
She hides her ability at Math very well. F. Mary is a poor teacher with a bad temper: all in all a toxic combination at a community college. She does not even have a Master's Degree. How did she get a job at COD?
I have always gotten A's in my classes, but this is just stupid, she is not willing to help you. Even if you do homework and study hard you will be lucky if you get an A.
She is the worst teacher i have take. Please don't take math class with her.Taking a math class with her is the words of you like :"come on tiger kill me." I did this mistake. Don't repeat it.I have all 'A''s in my all class. This is my first 'C' in my life.
DONT TAKE HER CLASS!! she doesn't care if you understand it or not. shes nice but not a good teacher.
Explains the math very well, gives lots of example problems. Homework is really easy and so are the tests.
one word..horrible
She is not a good teacher, there are no quizes, no curve, no extra credit, and she seems annoied when you ask for help. out of the 35 people in our class 8 barlie passed. I heard she was a bad teacher but I had no idea how right people were. Don't Take Her Unless You Have Already Taken The Class Or It Will Be Extremly Hard and Dissapionting.
That last rating is true! Like 16 or 18 people failed her class. I think that says enough about her as a professor? There has to be better, take someone like Messersmith for this class.
She doesn't seem to care whether the class understands the material or not. We were having new material thrown at us right up to last test. No opportunity to review for the final. I got more out of 5 minutes in the math assistance lab than I got out of a full lecture.
She is a great stats teacher.... she explains the theory well in class, homework can be vague but is usually workable. She gives a study guide before each test and if you study that material then you should get an A...
Precalc teacher with short notice before a test
If not the worst professor I've ever had, she's close too it. Homeworks are hard, tests are impossible, and she just doesn't seem to care about students at all.
She is a really cool teacher and has a sense of humor.
Worst teacher I have ever had!
god awful...just god awful. explains everything once unless you ask and seems to get annoyed when u ask a question as she speeds through everything. Not to mention she shows you easy examples on the board then puts ridiculous problems on the quizes and tests. And to help her students out more she does not curve anything. she just doesnt care
Statistics could have been fun. F.Mary was just awful. Unbelievably bad! I wish I had known about this site before I enrolled in a class with her. She does not enjoy teaching and she seems to dislike everyone. I wish she would go back to England and get an MS in personality and learn how to teach.
do not take her. I think she actually likes the fact half the people dropped. and half the people left end up failing so basically a quarter of the class will pass.
shes horrible. please do not take her
Prof. Hill is one of the best math professors that I have ever had! She is open to questions, explains things clearly, and has a great accent. However, she expects you to do your homework. If you study and ask plently of questions, you will pass calc!
Mary Hill is the absolute worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't care about her students. Her tests are completely unreasonable, especially the FINAL! She is not an asset to the college and should definitely find another career. It's the students who are suffering from her disabilities. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER FOR MATH!
You have 2 be unrealistically gifted to be able to do well in her class without putting in much effort. i love math with a passion n always used to be rank 1, but she teaches a bit too fast n assigns a crazy load of hw, but if you do the hw, then you should be able to do well on her tests n u'll be fine. im failing her class n have to retake it :(
The class is not impossible if you put time into it. I got an A. She makes things sound harder than they really are. If taking Stats w/her. Make sure you read the book on your own... things are put simpler. Gives online assignments. You use the computer alot.
This class is the eq. to 1432. She demanded alot from the class. Arrives for class late 90% of the time. Got an A, but had to really bust my back to earn it. Tough grader. Final Exam cumulative but not bad at all.
Terrible teacher! Lack of explanation on her part, she assigns online hw which is useless because half the time you can enter the right answer but it wont be in the format that its looking for but it wont tell you it will just say that its wrong. Final was cumulative even though we had a mid-term exam!
She demands a LOT of work out of her students.
Her teaching isn't the best method to teach. But it is not that bad. She takes a lot of points on the quizes, takes too much points on unnessary stuff such us not simplifying square root of 400. She doesn't give any partial credits. But still she is doable. If you do the homeworks, keep up with it, you have good chance of getting A.
showed up last everyday. When you seek help will tell you that it is in the book. Huge ****. Do not, I repeat do not take her class you will die trying to get just a C.
She's boring and doesn't even know what she's talking about. She doesn't tell you what to study for the tests. Awful, one of the worst teachers I've ever had.
absolutely terrible teacher, she knows math but has no clue how to teach it, or help students
I have never had a hard time with math but for the first time I found myself struggling to even pass the class. There is a TON of homework, both online and book work. She understands math but not how to teach. I would NOT recommend this teacher unless you are very good at teaching yourself new material and highly motivated.
I have always understood math, and found it relatively easy with a little studying and showing up to class. I was in a world of hurt with this teacher. You have WAY to much homework, both online and in book. She laid out the class very poorly, and overall was the worst teacher i've had.
She is the worst teacher I have had so far. Never helps you, she doesn't know how to teach. She doesn't tell you when the test date is. I don't know what else to say except if you have other choices don't take her. I regret taking her as my teacher.
Worst teacher at COD. I would not recommend her does not know how to teach.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! she is the worst possible teacher ever! She teaches you things that you don't need to know and she teaches you some random calculus language that you don't need to learn. I took her and i failed (when i'm a math major and have ALWAYS aced math) DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO FAIL
She's always willing to answer any your questions about the material or the homework. There were six quizzes, a midterm, and a final. They were hard but if you study and do the homework, an A is fairly easy. She will give partial credit if you make a stupid mistake or get part of the question correct. The Welsh accent is a plus. Very nice overall.
she sucked, was ALWAYS late to class, made mistakes while teaching and didnt make much sense, never went in order and confused herself by not following the book or lesons she gave us
she is a horrible teacher do not take her unless you can teach yourself. she relies mainly on ONLINE homework through Mathlab and assigns book work that she never goes over. her test are designed to trick not teach. she does not answer questions well; and is always late to class then trys to hold you late. she does not take her job seriously
Was always late to class. Never on time once. Her excuse was that her office was at the other end of the building. She could have left her office earlier. Then she would need the whole class time and would want to go over. If she was on time, we would have done better. Over 1/2 the class dropped.
Kept teaching new material until the day before the test. The new material was NOT on the test. Did not review. Would review every question on the test the day after she graded them. If she would have reviewed beforehand instead of after, people would have done better. Tests were impossible. But, I still got by somehow.
Awful. Expected students to check mycod web site each morning to see if there was class. Upset if students did not. She had never canceled class. She always had a sub if she was going to be gone.
I don't understand why Hill is so lowly rated here. She is the best calculus teacher at COD in my opinion (I'm not alone on this with the consensus of my class.) Her approach to explaining new material is very steady paced and she grades quite fairly! She doesn't count the whole problem wrong if there's some algebraic mistakes. Highly recommended!
Teaches for herself, not her students. Teaching quality ok but very dry and boring. Should review more for tests. Very uptight about mundane issues. not recommended.
It is obvious that prof Hill is very poorly rated..but she honestly is not that bad..She is definitely not going to baby you, so get ready to do homework and study A lot..i actually went to her for help and she was very helpful..her classes are not easy and I would say very hard to get an A..She is not an easy grader..but she is not the worst prof.
Mary is underrated here. She is REALLY knowledgable about Math, works through problems in class, goes over tests in detail, is available all the time, willing to help and is overall very nice. I talked math with her but I also talked about baseball and soccer with her. She is very experienced and kept a steady pace thru an accelerated summer class.
Professor hill was horrible! She expects too much dedication and uses easy problems in class but then ludicrously hard ones on the exam. Her teaching style was boring and dry, I only missed one class and still feel I got nothing out of it. The worst was that she went really fast when explaining problems so that it's almost impossible to follow!
I took her for Calc 1.. not sure why she's getting so bashed with some of the comments. Very straightforward teacher.. No mandatory attendance or graded homework. 6 quizzes, midterm and final were the entire grade. If you want to be rated based on ability versus dedication, this is the perfect teacher. And she's kind of cute with that accent.
She was a horrible teacher. On many occasions, she didn't even show up to class. The examples she used in class were straight from the book. I could have opened the book myself and followed along. The tests were much more difficult than anything learned in class. She does pop quizzes, so attendance is pretty mandatory. I don't recommend her at all.
She assumes and that all students know everything just because a few shake their head and she skips steps. She is terrible at making it easy to understand. DO NOT TAKE HER.
She's very harsh on her grading, not much of any partial credit on questions and no point giving side assignments. She's pretty straightforward in her teaching and policies, though: 6 quizzes, midterm, final. No homework or side assignments in between to fluff up your grade.
absolutly horrible. dont take it if you dont want to do everything on the computer. you mine as well take an online math class.
She's very nice, has good intentions and is very helpful one-on-one. She's pretty lenient with the students, seeing as many were behind and she was more than happy to give extensions on deadlines. The class was demanding but it's not the teachers fault. Anyone that says she's bad was just bad at the class, and taking it out on the teacher.
It's math, so hard. Her tests are harder than assignments/book. Internet homework is 5% of your grade and some questions on test are straight from it. 5 Tests and a final and you get to retake 2 tests if you wish. If you email her, make sure to save a copy of your email as she forgets having talked to you at all.
Dont take her if you have another choice. She explains things in a way that only someone who already understands the material would comprehend what shes trying to say. Ive never had trouble with math nor dropped a class and she was my first. Her accent is also very irritating, I couldnt stand listening to her speak. Doesnt grade on hw or attendance
Mrs. Hill is the best math teacher I have ever had. I took calc 1 4 years ago, forgot almost everything and she explained it as if I was a 5th grader. If you go into her office hours for help and she makes sure she answers your questions. maybe people are bashing her are b/c they are not trying. Kind of sad. Anyways, awesome teacher! and loves math
She trips over herself to help the A students,,- so If your an "A" student youll be fine.
I honestly didn't mind Professor Hill at all. She was clear when it came to explaining the material and she really takes her time to make sure you understand it. For her class, you're only allowed to miss six classes so use those up wisely otherwise you'll get kicked out. Overall, she was a good teacher and I loved her class!
So this is what Common core UN education is like.. Yikes!
I liked her. She is very clear and explains calc very well. The subject is already hard, but she goes above and beyond to try and help you. You have to seek the help to. She won't baby you or give extra credit. One guy in our class asked for EC all semester, but she didn't budge. Her quizzes can be hard though.
isnt helpful at all and gives too much work and gives little credit for all the extra work that she puts you through ang that takes away from you focusing on your big exams
Her only help was to say "better hit the books". Didnt teach anything. All from a guy on a computer screen.
I took Calc 1 with Hill last fall and thought she was the best math teacher I have ever had. Everyone who says she is difficult, did you go into her office hours for help Were you proactive in your studies I'm guessing not Yes she is a tough grader but its math, its either right or wrong
I was really hesitate to take her bc of the reviews - but she was the only one that allowed me to register late. I am so glad she did! I have taken 2 math classes since and I wish I could take her again. Tests were easy, hw was a lot, but every math class is. Good at emailing back. It was online so I didn't have face to face but I would take her!
AVOID. AT ALL. COSTS If she is your only option, skip taking the class. Not worth it. Worst "teacher" I've ever had.
I really enjoyed the class, although the homework assignments were extremely lengthy. As long as you do the work, though, you'll be fine on the quizzes and tests. This just isn't a class you can coast through.
Took this class online.. It's hard. Math online is not fun but it was my only option while taking a ton of science classes with lab that take over the majority of my week. It's doable but stressful.
I took Math 1432 online. The class is done through myMathLab so all the assignments, quizzes, and tests are through there. When you take her tests, MAKE SURE YOUR SCRATCH PAPER IS NICE AND NEAT otherwise, you won't get partial credit. She could be much more clearer about solving problems in her emails.
Most of the learning is done outside of class. She assigns a large amount of homework and expects your knowledge to come from that, not from her lectures themselves. Always runs the class late, a real pain for a 4:30 to 6:50 time, but worse when the professor for the next class consistently interrupts so that he can teach his class after. Avoid.
I took this as an 8-week online summer course. All assignments are done via MyMathLab. Homework due every 2 weeks.. Exams must be taken at the Testing Center using MyMathLab. No study guides are provided, so be sure to know the material. You have to memorize formulas and properties. Very fast-paced. Workload equivalent to taking several classes.
I can't rate her as a teacher since she was just grading my stuff. However, when I had a question (twice) she answered me fast and clear. I think, the program is the one that I have to thank the most. The people explaining the questions, in the videos, were very clear. What I liked the most is that I can pause and rewind until I get it through.
no help at all. ask her a question and get back snobby response actual question unanswered.
Had differential equations with her. The grade you get in the class is the grade you earned. The final grade was based off of 5 exams and a final. She is very helpful and wants to see the students to succeed. Would definitely take another class of hers.
Was a good online instructor , she made herself readily available and explained math concepts well was not too harsh on test grafung as long as you showed your work and demonstrated knowledge of the math concept. Tests are 80% of yor grade.
I'm speaking as someone who took an online course with her. Send her an email and she'll get back to you pretty quickly. If you need help, you're better off looking elsewhere; her 'help' will probably go over your head. Oh, and she's about as flexible as a brick wall. Don't expect her to budge unless your house burns down.
She is not a good teacher, it's really just not for her. She does pop quizzes, and if you're not there you get a 0% for the quiz. You can complete all the homework assignments (optional, not for points) and study for hours, but when you get one of her tests it's like it's foreign. She is a very hard grader, grading only quizzes and tests.
Online class was very time consuming. The class is set up so you can't move on without finishing the previous material first. This means you cannot take the test until you finish the quizzes and homework for the unit. Tests are all online and must be done in the testing center. She will give points back on the tests if your work was done correctly.
I took an online math class. I would have passed because I understood all of the material. But, when taking an exam which weighed HEAVILY for your grade, you were REQUIRED to MEMORIZE EVERY SINGLE FORMULA. So when the final came, i hope you remembered how to calculate angular speed or area of a sector that you learned 3 months prior. Good luck.
Heavy in all aspects. We had 3h lectures and we barely did any examples, just pure theory and a ton of homework afterwards. Really hard to keep up, you basically have to study and 'create' examples on your own in order to understand. If you spend your lectures on time watching YouTube videos about the same topics, it will be way more helpful.
You're pretty much on your own in her class. Her "office hours" are usually "online" when she feels like staying home. So If you're the type who needs help with concepts you're learning I'd advise taking this class on campus. This is one prof that thinks much too much of herself. She's inconsistently harsh with her grading
Hill is the worst professor i have ever had. She won't curve at all, grades the tests late. so if you make a mistake on a test you wouldn't know the correction until after the next test. So you kinda make the same mistakes again. TOO much homework and too many tests. Have to put in atleast 30-40 hours a week. She won't curve even if its 59.9%.
Prof. Hill should not be teaching. She does not know how to properly communicate any topic to the class. She goes back and forth between teaching from the book and her own "unique" style. She gives far too many pointless online HW assignments. Her idea of extra credit is doing 100 problems for 5 pts. Expect to learn the material on your own time.
This professor was by far the worst one I have ever had. She did not go through tests to tell you what your errors were, or even give partial credit. I had online and in-person classes with her, 3 in total. I should have learned the first time, but my options were limited. Her teaching and my learning did not agree.
She's very rude to her students. If you are doing well and moving ahead, her goal is to slow you down. I won't lie I did finish the final first and get an A in the class, but it was a lot of hard work and she seems to enjoy humiliating all of the students in her class. Whenever someone would ask her a question she would just ignore them.
