One of the smartest and best profs I have had at UW Madison. You will get a good grade if you GO TO CLASS, DO ALL THE HOMEWORK, and READ THE TEXTBOOK. A lot of people hear that this class is bad and then just accept that they will do poorly. Office hours were very helpful, and hardly anyone ever went there; go to them!! Class is 80% Exam, 20% HW

Amazing professor. He teaches out of his own book, which is kinda weird but its available for free through the library and you have basically an outline of the entire class content. The material is really tough, but his exams are at least 50% just taken from the homeworks, so get familiar with them. Don't expect a good grade, even with the curve.

People take Math 321 thinking the class is impossible and then accept defeat when it gets hard. It really isn't that bad you just have to make sure you understand the major concepts. Content can be difficult but if you thoroughly understand the content rather than just how to solve the HW problems, you will do well in the tests. Learn the Content!!

I wish fabian could know how much he has destroyed and broken me. I have no idea how someone can do the things he does and not feel awful about themselves. he is the worst person I have ever met.

Does not post his notes from class. for no reason at all other than to just be annoying. makes everything impossibly difficult to understand for no apparent reason. I cant understand why he is the way he is. I hope one day something clicks for him and he takes a moment to stop and actually just think about who he is.

Homework problems are so impossibly difficult you cant even learn any concepts from them and then he makes it out to be like everyone is just stupid when he puts a homework problem on the exam and everyone gets it wrong. He is rude, and so quick to judge people. he cant see anything from anyone elses perspective.

He gets a kick out of watching his students suffer. doesnt post his notes from lectures despite many students asking him. requires you to buy his textbook even though he has a pdf he can just upload online. its like he does things so obviously wrong you dont expect him to get away with it but then he somehow does every single time.

The only professor I've ever had who wants to see you fail. He will actively try to give you the worst grade possible. Most bad professors are just lazy. Not Fabian, oh no. He is anything but lazy. He tries very very hard to make your life hell. A terrible professor and a worse person.

I took this professor because I enjoy failing my classes. I love destroying my mental health. Fabian single handedly got my parents divorced and made me drop out of college. I love taking my exams and finding out he put only wrong answers on them. If you enjoy being humiliated then take this class like I did.

Professor Waleffe is clearly a talented physicist and has a PhD in Applied Math from MIT. His work has thousands of citations and has been published in the prestigious Journal of Fluid Mechanics. With that being said, this is not MIT and we are undergrads. It is unreasonable to expect us to master what is essentially three courses in one
