She is really sweet and is a very energetic lecturer (you wont ever fall asleep). However class is almost pointless its so easy! Didn't learn a thing! Class is interesting if u lived under a rock your entire life! 2 tests & 1 short paper!
She has seriously been one of my favorite professors so far. She's really enthusiastic about what she teaches and she knows what she's talking about. She's really down to earth but you have to come to class because she tests on the lectures and not on the book. Plus I think she's really hot!
Great professor. I heard horror stories about anthropology classes but her class was interesting and she is a very nice lady!
Great teacher, a lot of fun. If you attend her study sessions for her test you'll do fine. You will need the book to at least study over and her classes can get kind of boring but if you actually pay attention and interact it can be very worthwhile.
I love her! She is so nice and very entertaining. She knows what she's talking about. She'll work with you on any problems you may have, too.
She's so smart and so in love with what she teaches. She's also a teacher who genuinely wants her students to do well! Great class and a great person! And, yeah, she's pretty hot.
She makes class interesting, except on film days. If you study hard, you will have no problems with exams. Interesting subject
Friendly professor, interesting lectures. Exams are easy if you pay attention to lectures. No homework--just two short papers. Occasional in-class exercises where you answer some questions in groups for participation points, must be in class on those days or you'll lose points. I'd take a class with her again.
Very nice professor, and very helpful. But you HAVE to attend class otherwise you will fail, because her tests are lecture, textbook, articles etc! Only 2 tests and a final, so if you fail the first one you are kinda screwed! VERRRRY BORING!! Makes the class a lot harder than it needs to be. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
This teacher was awesome! Very enthusiastic about the class and subject. Extremely knowledgeable. Always there to help. You have to attend class, because that is pretty much all the tests are on. If you favor multiple choice tests then this might not be the right class for you. Essay based questions and two short papers.
An amazing professor and my favorite so far. Keeps anyone the slightest bit willing to learn engaged in the class, and lectures are like conversations. She is extremely knowledgeable about her field, and is able to answer unexpected questions related to the topics discussed. Extremely helpful, friendly, intelligent, and makes students WANT to learn
She is very helpful and very engaging. She honestly wants you to take something away from this course and it shows. The coure is not especially easy, but if you attend class regularly, you will probably do pretty well.
She is a very nice teacher! She has a great sense of humor and always entertains questions and new ideas for students. Her study guides don't match her slides very well though. Her teste are VERY technical and take some definite reading and explanation from the teacher herself.
I took this class my first semester of college and I was so interested in learning about anthropology. This teacher is very intelligent but not helpful in any way. Her lectures are EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to understand. Not only is the material hard but she speaks very quickly and has a thick accent. Her tests are like trying to decipher hieroglyphics.
Fidra is awesome!! If you aren't interested in cultural anthropology then you will be after this class! Warning if you want to take this class and think you can just look at the power points and not come to class, DONT TAKE! Tests pretty hard, essays detail oriented, must keep up with the articles, but overall an amazing class!!!
Very funny, energetic but sometimes not very clear. That's due to her accent, which is awesome at times. She is helpful when u need some extra help even during tests. READ ALL ARTICLES. TESTS ARE ESSAY ORIENTED.
Great teacher. I had her for maymester so I'm sure she was much easier/lenient with grades but I still got a high A. She makes class enjoyable by letting students participate in conversations. She offered up to 7 points extra credit to our final grade by turning in a 2 paragraph paper. You MUST pay attention in class or you will do poorly.
Cultural anthro hits econ/politics often so I found her lectures really interesing and comprehensible, even though I hate econ. She's funny and really knows her stuff. She's also very responsive if you need help. EC available and tests are always the same. mc/short answers.
she is such a nice professor she gave u 3 tests multi. choice, short essyas and one long essay, also 2 short papers i never read the book so i end up w/ a B
A great teacher! Took during maymester. I really enjoyed her class. We had 3 multiple choice tests. There were articles we read that were on the test, but if we wrote a summary we got extra credit. Didn't buy the book, got an A. If you pay attention and read the articles you should get an A.
Professor P. was awesome. She is quirky and loves the subject. She does her best to keep you engaged and reviews the previous class for the first 10 minutes every class. The tests were fairly easy with bogus answers as little give-aways in there. I made a B on every exam and she gave me an A. She is sweet and a GREAT teacher.
Very good class, take her!
LOVED her! She is so hilarious and really intelligent. Her classes are very discussion based so as long as you show up you'll do great. I would highly recommend taking any course she offers.
I love her! Her class is very engaging and the books we read and the movies we watch are very interesting. The tests are not very difficult and she throws blatantly wrong answers in there for fun. Take her if you can.
She was a great instructor, but I have to be honest, the class wasn't that great, which was not her fault. No one reads,so class discussions suffered.I needed to take this class for my major & although I enjoyed it, it was a repeat of intro to anthro,so I wasn't very engaged & sometimes bored. She gives alot of extra credit,so do it! Don't be lazy!
Amazing teacher! She explains things well and makes it all very fun and interesting. She uses the book very minimally. Her lectures really keep your attention. I really want to take another class from her. I didn't study and got a B+, not because of ease but because she's easy to understand. I loved it!
Such a good teacher and very fun to be around. I thoroughly enjoyed this class; really easy if you go to the lecture. I highly recommend it. I changed my major because of this class.
Dr. P is amazing! I've taken her for intro to cultural anthropology and for anthropology of globalization, and both classes have been great! She is very clear and fun and very interesting.
Overall, she is a very enthusiastic and engaging professor. But it is VERY difficult to follow her lectures, so as hard as it may be, you HAVE to pay attention in class because that's the only way to pass the tests. I like the course I just wish it was a bit easier to follow.
Great professor! She is very enthusiastic when it comes to teaching. As long as you do the work, you will get a good grade.
She is a very enthusiastic teacher! She knows what she's talking about. Does not require attendance, but if you wanna pass the tests.... GO! Three tests and she offers extra credit. Overall loved her!
Boring material but man is she awesome! Makes the class interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but you NEED to go in order to do well. 3 exams, two papers, and LOTS of extra credit. Lived up to reviews!
The material is so interesting it's hard not to pay attention. In my opinion her accent did not make it difficult to understand because she speaks very clearly. Tests are m/c but they are tough, reading helps a lot don't rely on slides only! You still have to take your own notes. Plenty of extra credit DO IT 2paragraph response to articles on D2L
Thick accent but super easy teacher. Gives several chances for extra credit. No homework or quizzes. Only 3 tests which seems intimidating but if you do the study guides you'll be fine. Attendance not mandatory believe me.
Her lectures are amazing, she seems to know too much about cultural anthropology that it's scary. The class lectures tend to turn into class discussions everyday because the material is so fascinating. Her accent is a little thick but it is still very clear to understand.
This professor has an accent but it isn't that thick. The rapid pace of her speech is the problem. There are two papers but they are pretty easy. The test are really difficult so i suggest you complete the majority of the extra credit she assigns. I would purchase the book because her powerpoints are mainly pictures.
Awesome! Passionate about subject.
I have a general interest in the subject but that's it. The lectures are very interesting and the two papers due for the class are not difficult. The first exams are fairly difficult but if you study the study-guide in detail & brush over the things just before and after the key points on the guide they aren't too bad. The final is the easiest exam
Deff my fav prof. Her lectures are so fascinating she loves what she does and it shows. Tests are pretty tough though they're multiple choice, but she has a lot of allnone of the above questions so you have to know your ish. Plenty of extra credit super easy to do. I've taken her twice and gotten an A both times. LOVE HER 3
I always went to class because she actually made the material interesting. There are few tests but are easy if you complete the study guide, which is easy to complete if you go to class. Few articles to read and will give extra credit if you write little briefs on them.
Very passionate about cultural anthropology which is refreshing. High energy (but not in an annoying way). Funny (she brings up memes, y'all...) Exams and two papers (ethnographies) are VERY easy. I received a 101 on the first exam, 99 on second, 98 on first paper, and 100 on the second.
2 papers, only 3 pages long super easy as long as you do it. The tests are a bit difficult because it comes from her lectures and not really slideshows so have to really take notes during lectures. Don't get book because its in GSU catalog via online. Attendance not mandatory but again tests are from lectures
She is an interesting professor with great insight about her subject. Sometimes her tests are pretty confusing even for a multiple choice one. She sometimes talks too fast for most people, but it didn't bother me since I take notes from her powerpoint as she is talking. She likes to ask a few test questions based on the extra credit she assigns!
Favorite professor of all time
TAKE HER!!! This women deserves an award. Her lectures SO interesting and classes fly by. She literally gives me an energy boost, cause she's so passionate about this subject. Funny and a fast-talker, but easy to understand her Greek accent. Just show up to class and follow the PPTs and you should be fine. 3 tests, 2 EASY ethnographic exercises.
One of my favorite professors ever, she's so passionate about her subject and funny. A lot of reading, but she picks really fun stuff to read and if you write a short summary each is worth extra credit. Tests aren't super easy if you only read the textbook, most questions come from the articles she assigns and the lecture.
Her tests aren't the easiest, but they aren't too incredibly hard. Make sure that you understand the material and are able to understand the concepts. She tends to talk fast, but she is getting better at speaking slower. Do the extra credit! There are a lot of them (1 point each) and are added to your overall points for your grade. She posts slides
Great professor. Her lectures are always engaging and interesting. A lot of the information on the tests is from her lectures, so make sure to take good notes and do the extra credit!
Awesome professor
Dr. P has an awesome personality. 2 papers 2-3 page papers and 3 tests. Tests have all kinds of questions. Really easy class with loads of extra credit assignments. Textbook or attendance not required but recommended.
Funny, caring professor! Her lectures were always interesting and informative. She also offers a lot of extra credit and in her words, "I love to give A+." I had a very difficult semester due to being sick a lot. I missed a test without even realizing it until it was too late, but SHE contacted ME and allowed me to make it up. Great professor.
Dr. P has great lectures! My only complaint is how few grades are taken in the class. You have a total of 5 grades, 2 EASY ethnographic assignments, and three tests. The tests are based mostly off of her lectures so if you go to class, you should do well. Her study guides are also great. Be wary- mess up on 1 test, could cost you your overall grade
While Dr. Papavasiliou is very sweet and upbeat, she literally does not stop talking from the time class starts until a few minutes after class ends, so it can be hard to pay attention to her. Nonetheless, she does not take attendance and you can make an easy A without showing up. Don't waste money on the textbook, you'll never use it.
Such a quirky, fun lady. SO many extra credit opportunities you would not even believe. Extremely interesting subject matter, very engaging professor. She's very accessible outside of the classroom. I 1000% recommend taking this class - and this professor!
If I ever were to consider changing my major, this propfessor would be the reason as to why. Extremely engaging, wonderfully rounded and versed in her expertise and it totally comes through in her lectures. Great speaker and lecturer. I'm even considering getting a minor in Anthropology becuase I had such a great time in her class, even maymester!
Great professor, very caring. May sound like she's rambling, but pay close attention to what she says. Reviews right before students take the test. I wouldn't take this class again, but i would take her as a professor again.
The class was very interesting because of the topics that were discussed. The professor knows her material and is extremely attentive with holding study sessions before Exams, answering questions about the material, and reiterating on concepts that may be confusing in class. She talks a little fast but doesn't mind going back to clear up stuff
She tends to ramble but does a great job covering the material. I honestly did not read the textbook and made an A. There's tons of extra credit and she has study sessions before the tests. Attendance is not mandatory but her slides don't have much info so you shouldn't skip.
Papavasiliou is a great and engaging teacher. She loves her subject and loves to share it. Taking notes in class is super helpful. I never read the book, but the side readings are really interesting and offer opportunities for easy extra credit.
She is really good at explaining the material and her tests are exactly what she teaches. In her study sessions she goes over the entire test so as long as you pay attention in that you're good to go. I have 0 complaints.
She is a heavy lecturer but they are so interesting if you like the topic. If you don't come to class, she posts powerpoints but they do not have all the necessary information. She did a great job with her lectures & assignments during the switch to online because of COVID-19.
She is a good professor. There are lots of lectures. Many extra credit opportunities.
Dr. P is easily my favorite professor at GSU so far. The class is lecture-heavy, but she does exam reviews that tell you everything you need to know for tests. She offers so many extra credit opportunities and is an easy grader. 3 exams, 2 papers, and discussions that contribute to your participation grade
If I could take Dr. P for every other class, I would. For my course, there were 3 tests, 2 easy essays, and a few discussion posts here and there. If you don't understand something, she offers a study session right before the exam where she literally covered everything. She's very interesting and definitely knows her content.
Such a sweet teacher! This class was completely online, so it was lecture heavy, but she is very accessible and always did a full review before the exam. We only had 2 papers and 3 tests. If you just do the work you will pass.
She is such a sweet teacher, adn she is right to the point with her lectures! I loved taking her class so much that I am going to take her again next semester!
Dr. Faidra is an extremely chill and caring professor. She's incredibly accessible and tries to connect with the class. She's honestly the reason I'm adding a minor of anthropology to my degree. She has 3 tests and 2 ethnographic projects/papers, so make sure to attend the test review sessions, attend class and participate in discussion.
She's super genuine and an easy grader for the most part. Take her if you have the chance!!
Her class is VERY lecture heavy and you are only graded on 3 exams and 2 papers. There is A LOT of extra credit! Attendance is not mandatory, but her exams are in her own words so I recommend attending class. First 2 exams were hard, but 3rd one was easy! Very caring professor who is willing to work with students/extend deadlines for you if needed.
Actually took 4670 (Methods in Socio Anthro). Dr. Papavasiliou is passionate about what she teaches, and if you're paying attention you'll learn a ton. She's super caring and will help you make sure that you're on track for the class (as long as you try). The key is to put in effort and keep an open mind: as long as you do, you and her are golden.
My favorite professor I think I've ever had. Super engaging, super welcoming. Two essays (not easy, but pretty doable) and three tests (straight from the lectures.) Amazing class, 10/10 would take again.
loved her class. she is very engaging and the material is interesting. there are 2 ethnographic papers but they're fairly easy and a couple of tests (open-note). highly recommend!
She's really energetic and passionate about anthro. Her work load is light but make sure to do well on the exams since there are only 3. The 2 exercises she gives out are not hard and she is always willing to work with you over extension dates. She's nice and even got me into anthro! Would take her again definitely she cares about her students.
Dr. Papavasiliou is amazing! The content is very interesting and she presents the information in a digestible way. There's three exams and two short papers. Attendance is not mandatory, however it is important because a lot of information comes from the lectures. She is so funny and very understanding. Take her if you have the chance!
The only reason why I got a B+ was because I was being lazy. Do those extra credits!! She's very chill on due dates just communicate; I'm not sure for the extra creds though. Her grading scale goes by points, 370 in total. 3 test=100 each and 2 writing=35 each and at the end she allowed 5 points for missed creds assignments
She is very knowledgeable in the field, and I enjoyed her class, but the lectures were long and would get boring at times; overall, the class was informative and relatively easy. I recommend Dr. Faidra.
Very energetic and interesting lectures! A few required essays and the exams are multiple choice. Provides a lot of room for extra credit and very lenient on late submissions. She's very obviously passionate about anthropology, would 100% take again
If you have the chance to take a class with Dr. Papavasiliou, you should! She gives incredibly entertaining, funny and educational lectures in class and gives great feedback on the work you do outside of it. She is so helpful and encouraging; I learned a lot from her and had a great time doing it!
May-semester: 6 modules with brainstorming and critical review discussion posts. Open-note final essay. Guest lecturers were interesting and you should attend if you can. The workload is very manageable for a May-semester.
funny, very understanding and accommodating to sistuations
A lovely professor! Very talkative, she absolutely loves discussions but sometimes that can put us behind. They are 3 exams and 2 papers but she's very clear on them and if not, you can almost always reach out to her
Very lecture heavy class, readings every week, summaries of them for extra credit, 2 projects (fun and easy), prof is talkative but engaging with students, grading is based on 3 exam(and 2 projects). Straight forward and easy, just engage in class and do readings, you will do fine.
graded on 2 fun/easy projects, 3 exams (not too hard), and optional extra credit if you summarize the weekly readings. You do not need textbook, the readings are given online, the exams are mostly based on lectures, they tend to be mostly her talking but she makes it engaging and relevant. She is nice and very energetic, you will love her class.
Graded by 2 fun projects, 3 not too hard exams, and extra credit on summaries for weekly readings. No textbook needed. The prof. is very energetic and nice, the exams are mostly based on her lectures which are long but engaging. Just read the readings and show up to class, take notes, you will do fine.

Take her class. It's an easy A if you're not to interested anthropology. However, if you genuinely care about the subject she's both well-informed and caring. 3 exams & 2 assignments and extra credit!
