Although the strike interfered with class, the time in class with Profe Blackhurst was great. She is super funny and caring and makes sure her students understand the material. She is super easy to understand and definitely helped me improve my Spanish and writing!! The class is a lot of writing so make sure you understand the hw!

A great spanish class. Professora Blackhurst has clear grading criteria and the expectations for readings and quizzes are clearly explained in Learning Suite. The mid-term was harder then expected.

Professor Blackhurst is great. Her lectures are engaging and helps you understand the material better. The reading is not too difficult but needed to be done because there is usually a quiz in class about the reading. The quizzes are not too hard and you are able to use your book so if you mark and take notes, the quiz is easy.

Lots of readings and in-class quizzes, but if you do the readings the quizzes are easy. Midterm was pretty difficult. Study hard for the tests and do most of the readings and you should be fine.

She is amazing! She is kind and encouraging to students and does everything to help her class succeed.

Professor Blackhusrt is great! The class has a decent amount of reading (after all it is a literature class) but it really isn't too bad. There are usually quizzes but if you do the reading they aren't bad at all. I learned lots of interesting stuff about literature too which was cool.

Profe Blackhurst is one of my favorite spanish professors! I loved the organization of her class, she would teach concepts, have us practice on our own with homework, and then have short quizzes at the beginning of most classes to test what we had just learned before moving on. The homework and quizzes were very short and easy.

Fantastic professor, I struggle with literature in English but taking Spanish literature from Professor Blackhurst was the best option. She is super understanding, grading is super forgiving and she is a fan of second chances. Obviously do the readings beforehand, but I plan on taking another course from her because of my great experience.

Prof Blackhurst was a super fun teacher. This class was kind of like a 12th grade English class, but in Spanish. Prof Blackhurst was super nice and was very fair when grading stuff, especially test and other projects. If you show up and participate, you will get an A.

Profe Blackhurst has required readings in a packet to make it easy to read and annotate. There's Daily quizzes but not difficult with extra credit. Warning, she did have a final project, paper and test at the end of the semester. None of them were overly difficult, but it did seem a little unnecessary with all the other classes I was taking.

Profesora Blackhurst is awesome! More than anything, she is a good person, very uplifting and kind. I always felt welcomed and respected in her class. Her course proved to be engaging and not too demanding. Her grading scale was easy to follow and, because, as long as you follow the rubric you will get all of the credit for the assignment.

There is a decent amount of readings for homework but it did not feel excessive. Lots of small group discussions in class to analyze texts. Overall highly recommend taking this class from her!

This was by far my favorite class of the semester. Professor Blackhurst was always willing to answer all questions we had and everything on learning suite and in person was very clear. There is one mid-term and one final and a couple small group projects/ papers. This class was not only pretty easy but also very enjoyable!

She is a really caring professor! Attendance is mandatory, but you do fun things in class and she is really understanding and flexible with you. Two exams, but not worth that much; not much studying is required outside of class if you just go to class. Look over the readings because she does (very easy) in class quizzes a lot.

There are so many great things I can say about Profesora Blackhurst. She is an incredibly kind person who cares greatly about each one of her students. Her coursework isn't too heavy, and her rubric is super clear. As long as you put in the effort and follow the rubric, you will be highly successful.

Course very well organized. Expectations were always clear. A fair amount of reading but very manageable. Will often have mini quizzes based on the reading from the night before. No need to stress out about them. If you did the reading, the answer will be extremely obvious. Very accessible outside of class for questions/concerns.

Lots of group work and discussions. Exam reviews could have been better but it helps to have groups in there to help you study!

I had absolutely no complaints with professor Blackhurst. She has a very fair grading system and she is very willing to work with you if you miss class or are struggling in any way. I would take all of my spanish classes from her if it were possible!

The class was great; there was usually a daily quiz, so doing the readings was very important, and in the end, the quizzes helped with comprehension and preparation for the exams.

Professor Blackhurst was such a great professor! We always took time in class to clear up understanding of texts read and discuss further analysis. The readings were never too heavy, and Professor Blackhurst was good about using class time to discuss interpretations and application. She compiled the "textbook", so it was super cheap, only like $15.

I think professor Blackhurst really sets up students to succeed if they want to. There's plenty of online resources that she gives out to review the lectures and what we plan to talk about. I really like the booklet that she has created for us, it provides all the texts we read throughout the semester and was very well organized.

She is super awesome. You do have to do the readings because there are daily quizzes, but they aren't that long so it's not a big deal. More than anything though the class is really fun, and definitely worth your time.

I didn't always feel like the purpose of our in class assignments was clear, but Professor Blackhurst did a good job at clarifying them for us. She used a credit/no credit grading scale on assignments which was different, but not necessarily in a bad way. The class was pretty easy and had some fun projects built into it.

I feel that it was not too hard but I feel that I learned a lot about Spanish literature. If you just want to not learn then this class will be very hard. As long as you do the readings you will be fine. I enjoyed the class overall.

Professor Blackhurst was one of my favorite Spanish professors I've had as she was kind, approachable, and very willing to help students. Required readings for each class, but only had 1 paper and 2 exams. Most assignments were reading quizzes and annotations. Attendance is important for your grade. Honestly my favorite class this semester. She's very kind and understanding about assignments. There were reading quizzes most days, but if you missed class it was easy to make up in office hours. Fun in-class assignments to facilitate discussion and the textbook was a packet with all the readings and terms. She cares about her students.

Spanish Lit was one of the easiest 3 credit classes I've taken. I did all the readings on my 5 min bus ride to campus with the exception of one movie we had to watch. Her tests are pretty easy if you go to class and pay half attention.

In my opinion, our assignments were very manageable and never felt tedious or like busy work. The assignments and quizzes go great as long as you do the work beforehand. Professor Blackhurst made a class that could potentially dreadful into a fun and productive learning environment. She provides her own textbook with all of the readings for the semester, and it is so useful. There is a quiz for almost every reading so you better do it.

I was told that the classwork wouldn't be overwhelming, and that was absolutely true. Her teaching was excellent, and was very understanding for special circumstances. Professor Blackhurst is the GOAT. The reading for the class was always very manageable and I never felt overwhelmed by class work. 10-20 minutes max. Very few assignments other than an essay at the end of the semester. There are quizzes almost every class with very basic questions based on the reading. Lots of opportunities for extra credit.

Professor Blackhurst has been my favorite Spanish professor here at BYU. Instructions are always very clear, there are lots of group discussions, and the content is very interesting. There are always readings to do before class and sometimes quizzes based off of them. There are not too many papers to write and a couple group projects.

This was probably my favorite Spanish class (and possibly my favorite class) I have taken! There were several group projects and a main individual project that you could choose, which I loved! The teacher is really understanding, very organized in Learning Suite, and is always available to talk if you need help. I loved this teacher and the class!

Overall, I enjoyed Span 330 with Faith Blackhust. The course itself is difficult because it is a spanish literature class, so get ready to read and mark lots of poems and short stories. Faith is always willing to help and make sure that you understand the content.

Such a well designed class to encourage learning! Profe B is so kind and really wants her students to succeed! Projects are well designed and easy to perform well on because she provides checkpoints throughout the semester to help you make progress. Only one short essay.

If you've just finished SPAN 321 and are looking for 2 more classes to get your Spanish certificate, SPAN 330 with Blackhurst is a must. She's super kind and understanding and teaches a great class. Attendance is required so make sure to show up, but there's lots of extra credit and as long as you do the short readings she assigns, you'll get an A.

She is so kind and very understanding if you need help, explanations or if you are struggling in the class or in your personal life. It is very easy and possible to get a high A in the class as long as you go to class, turn in the assignments and do the readings. I loved being in her class and would take another class from her in the future.

This is a really great class, and she is a great professor. It is required to do the pre-readings before class and there will sometimes be a quiz in the beginning of class to show you read the poem/story. They are pretty simple and easy, but you definitely need to read. She is very understanding and you can talk to her about anything. 10/10 teacher

Profe Blackhurst is one of the best professors at finding a balance in the time demand of her students. I had to put real effort into the class, 3-4 hours a week, but I got things out of the class without spending back-breaking amounts of time. The quizzes aren't scheduled, so you do need to stay on schedule with readings.

If you just show up to class and pay attention you should be fine. There are "pop quizzes" over the readings sometimes, so just make sure you either do the readings or at least know basic plot points. The questions are usually super easy and basic. Most assignments are kind of pass/fail, so there's no nit-picky grading of taking off a few points.

There were readings we needed to read before every class but they were never too much. I felt like I learned.

She's very kind and understanding, both personally and with grading/due dates. She prepared us well for the midterm and test; we didn't get tested on anything that wasn't discussed in class.

Professor Blackhurst made this class very straightforward. Attendance is important because she has pop quizzes that you cant make up. She is super understanding and helped a lot with us a lot with our Spanish without ever making us feel bad or embarrassed.

They really are quite simple, and the paper topic you choose can be anything you're interested in that has remotely anything to do with Spanish America!

Awesome teacher, was good at covering lots of material and cultures in a short time while diving deep enough to feel like you actually learn something. lots of lectures were about readings you would do in between classes, and there was lots of class involvment with discussion. Overall awesome spanish teacher that is willing to work with you.

She is the sweetest and so reasonable! She grades homework mainly on completion and only gives two exams the entire semester. Lectures are engaging and informative. Cool group presentation and chance to study what interests you at the end of the semester! I loved her!!

I really enjoyed this class! It's a solid overview of Spanish Cultures. It goes by pretty quickly in the spring / summer, but you get to do different projects for credit. Minimal testing just a lot more products and fun group work, so if you are into that it's a great class!

Profe Blackhurst really wants her students to succeed! Her class was hands-on and involved a lot of participation, lots of fun group projects and lots of readings! She's very engaging, understanding and accommodating. Definitely not for lazy students but very rewarding to put in the work! She's a fair grader but don't skip readings or studying.

I feel like I learned so much about Latin American culture from Profe Blackhurst! The class is well organized, and we did some fun food/art projects in class that related to the topics we were studying. The class can be pretty intense though; we had a ton of readings, midterms, a final project, and research paper among other assignments for class.

Dr. Blackhurst is genuinely one of the most caring and kind teachers you'll have at BYU. I'm a senior taking this class and it's easily been one of the best Spanish classes I've ever taken. She cares about what she's teaching and helps you as the student to appreciate it to. She's big on hands on experience and group work, but makes it doable!

Prof. Blackhurst has put so much effort into making this class an incredible experience! It's very hands on, so it was never boring, but you do have to actually put in work. You won't succeed if you don't read the readings (before class, there are pop quizzes!) and put effort into projects. The projects were SO fun and I learned a ton.

Dr. Blackhurst is a great professor! She works really hard to help her students succeed. I enjoyed the class a lot and I felt like I learned a lot. I took it over the Summer and it was a bit dense with the readings up to 50 pages of reading between classes. It wasn't bad but felt like a lot at times. She is big on hands on group projects.

Professor Blackhurst is one of the best teachers I've had. I took this class during summer and we had more to do with less time to do it, it never felt unfair or overwhelming. You can't just scroll on your phone all class, you need to pay attention and if you do you will learn so much! Would highly recommend! Tl;dr great class + great teacher.

She's very kind and understanding, especially when it comes to grammar (she says grammar is the most important thing, as long as the idea generally comes across well).

She is a great professor! Not a tough grader which is very nice to have as a break from other professors. Take span 330 from her!!!! Exams are a low part of the final grade which is also very nice.

Professor Blackhurst is a good choice for SPAN 330! You have lots to read, but that won't change across professors. She's kind and enthusiastic and a fairly easy grader. Some essay assignments were a little confusing, but she did her best to compensate for that after getting feedback.

The exams were difficult, but she provides a study guide and holds a review session. She gives a lot of constructive feedback on writing assignments and provides enough time to complete them. She cares about her students and I always felt like I could ask for additional assistance.

She is such a great teacher and person. She wants you to succeed and if you do your part you can easily do well in her class. There are pop quizzes on the readings that are very fair and easy if you do the reading. She is super nice and funny. It's a well structured class. You're lucky if you get her.

Professor Blackhurst is super kind and always willing to answer questions! Reading is a big part of the class, and there is an assigned packet and a book that we read throughout the course. The class itself was super chill, although there were sometimes pop quizzes on the assigned readings, but she usually let us use our notes on them.

I absolutely loved Professor Blackhurst. She was not only very clear with her grading and expectations, but she also gave us assignments that were to help us prepare for exams and essays. Everything in this class is intentional, not just busywork. Make sure to do the reading and pay attention in class! She's great!

This class was an easy A if you keep up with the reading. The material was interesting and not hard to understand, and she does a good job of giving you everything you need to be successful. She is very forgiving and gives a lot of grace for late and/or misunderstood assignments. Quite a few readings, but nothing compared to my other classes.

I would take this class time and time again. Just do it

Involves a lot of participation/group conversations in class, which helps to keep Spanish fresh when we don't normally use it daily in that form/environment. Readings have a purpose and are important for understanding literary principles. Overall, she's a great teacher and is willing to help with whatever you need.

Prof Blackhurst is super caring and understanding. She was pretty clear about expectations for assignments and provided lots of help. Because it is a lit class there were a lot of readings. Also she often has pop quizzes which can be a little difficult but usually she'll allow students to ask questions about the readings beforehand.

It is easy to see how the same class given by a different professor could be very boring, but professor Blackhurst does a good job making it interesting through many small projects and activities. She was also very understanding when it came to due dates and technical difficulties with assignments.

Honestly just a good class and not to hard.

There are a lot of readings (it is a literature class) but the assignments aren't difficult. Lots of opportunities to discuss the readings/assignments in class, and you often discuss them before you take one of the few reading quizzes. She genuinely cares, and personally reached out to check in. The more you participate, the better off you'll be!

Professor Blackhurst is super caring and has a deep passion for what she is teaching! She explains concepts clearly and fosters a classroom of discussion. There is a good mix of types of assignments- papers, creative work, and group projects. This class does have a lot of reading, but if you keep up with it, you will be very successful!

Profesora Blackhurst is a fantastic professor who sincerely cares about her students and is passionate about Spanish literature. She is very knowledgeable and explains concepts well in class and is always willing to answer students' questions. The projects we got to participate in were also fun and helped me to connect with the Spanish literature!

She was really nice and understanding but the content of the class is tough since it's all Spanish Literature.

Professor is a good Professor. She gives a reasonable amount of work and is very understanding of a student's time and schedule. There were some random art projects that caught me off guard but they were graded very gracefully. The mid term was surprisingly hard compared to the rest of the class, but the final is all multiple choice so that's nice.

One thing I loved about Professor Blackhurst's teaching was how she gave plenty of time for discussion with our classmates. Sometimes it felt like too much time but it was actually super helpful. I also appreciated that she didn't make us feel dumb for not knowing certain words in Spanish and even admitted when she didn't know em either. Super nice

Great class lots of reading and essays

Lots of extra credit options was super helpful for those looking to get a great grade. We did some group projects which were actually kinda fun. There were pop quizzes, but she told us ahead of time. They were on the readings, so make sure to understand what the gist of the reading was.

She was a great and very understanding professor. I had lots of things come up this semester and really was only able to go to her class about half of the time. She understood and worked with me and allowed me to submit assignments late anyway and still get credit for them. She is willing to work with those who show her they actually care.

Professor Blackhurst is extremely kind and caring--you can sense her desire to teach and increase understanding. The class itself is very easy, with little outside homework and a small portion of the grade being composed of exam scores. There are a few projects, but they are all very manageable. Take it from Professor Blackhurst if you can!

Professor Blackhurst truly cares about her students, and this has been one of the first Spanish classes at BYU that was well organized. Learning Suite kind of sucked sometimes, and sometimes we weren't given a huge heads up on upcoming assignments but if you read the schedule and put in the work you can succeed in her class.

The organization of the class was a little disorganized because there were deadline changes but she was good to give us a heads up and enough time. She can talk about the difficult topics in literature in a professional way that invites people to be more comfortable. She favors class attendance and is good at getting class participation because she asks a lot of questions.

Sister Blackhurst was great! She has by far been my best Spanish teacher. The class is very well organized and she grades fairly.

Professor Blackhurst was not trying to make the class hard at all. Spanish literature isn't the funnest or most exciting topic in the world but Professor Blackhurst was very easy to work with. The test in her class aren't weighted heavily at all so if you get a bad grade you are fine! Just focus on the papers for sure.

She is such a good teacher and willing to help with anything, but the rubric for most of her papers is unclear and she doesn't explain her assignments very well so you have to ask her what she is looking for.

A very good class and a great professor. Very caring and a great communicator. I felt like my writing skill improved this semester and that it wasn't too much of a workload. I could have been pushed more but I was also grateful for the feedback and variety of different types of assignments we were expected to do.

I loved this class! Dr. Blackhurst is so kind and willing to work with you if you need it. Attendance is mandatory, but you do get one free mental health day. Readings can be heavy, so give yourself enough time out of class to do them. You will want to do them before class because there are random pop quizzes that you can only take in class.

Loved Dr. Blackhurst. Her class is super organized, so you always know what's due and what's expected. There is a good amount of reading (normal for lit), but even with 19 credits, I never felt overwhelmed since she reviews key info before quizzes and exams. 10/10 recommend, one of the best teachers I've had at BYU.
