What a great class! I actually look forward to going to it.
she expects a lot from you, but she gives so much, it's worth it!
The Power Point Professor....She's amazing!
Very enthousiastic! Great lecturer, makes you want to go to class.
I think if I called Faith Wallis when I get sick, she'd bring me soup. Mom-prof.
easy, didnt deserve the grade i got. enthusiastic
Excellent prof, very clear lectures, fair marker. Great use of technology.
Exciting and stimulating classes. You can tell she loves her job!
Powerpoint is great...but too much info at once...at least she's into it!
She loves what she teaches, although she tries to give too much sometimes.
Not only a great prof., but a great woman! Remarkably interesting lectures!
Great Prof! Interesting lectures and very helpful.
i chose history because of her

ya gotta have faith!
Very nice woman. However, lots of work and she sometimes speaks too fast.

this is a MUST!!!
Great teacher, can put you asleap if you loose track of what she's saying, it all becomes background noise. She's amaizing but there is a load of stuff to read and to remember in her class. Easy final
really boring course...
Not hard, but those powerpoint demonstrations are distracting and she's dull. Still, very nice one-on-one.
Schoolmarmish - why is she teaching in a university? Hiring qoutos one would think. Also, skip any lectures by her or conversations with her if you want to avoid hearing her laugh, it's like nails across a chalkboard.
so smart, has insane amounts of knowledge in medieval medicine and science- had her for 4 classes, loved them all!
My fave class at McGill hands down. She is a phenomenally passionate teacher, and wonderful, articulat speaker. I thot her lectures were captivating,&the assignments were creativ/challenging.She's approachable and warm hearted which is added bonus.

Woman has no clue, none at all. What makes me angriest is her tendency to anachronism. Drives me nuts.
OK prof. The best and worst is getting papers back. When she's handing them back in class you'll know right away how good or bad you did. She handed one back to me and looked like she was holding a dead rat by the tail. Subtle.
One of the worst professors that I have ever heard lecture. Very unhelpful and just ridiculously bad.
Somehow made European history BORING. I wish she had decided to use another textbook, the one that we were required to read was unclear and just made me hate the class even more. She makes good use of webct though (online lectures!), she gets points for that.
Nice lady, good prof. A lot of excessive info. given at times, but helpful with papers and clarifications if you take to time to see her. Definitely has a matronly demeanor; I found that charming, though. Online lectures make her a goddess. Assignments complex, but pretty easy.
I think that Prof. Wallis probably works better in smaller groups - 200+ ppl classes are horrid for everyone. I absolutely loved her class. She makes the important points clear, adds in lots of amusing facts, her tests are sane, and she gives lots of constructive criticism for essays.
A lot of work for an intro class, but I learned lots.. however sometimes she gave too much information; we were covering like 2500 years, too much detail is a problem. Still, I liked the survey of the class, and online resources are very useful. Do the work and there are no tricks; you'll do fine.
haha. she's the fashion queen... she explains history like she's teaching us how to bake cookies. she's absolutely awesome. she seems genuinely nice and VERY well informed; she teaches as though you're not dumb. her lectures are enganging and very informative. a darling prof.
She is a good professor and fair with marking. However, History of Med was not what I was expecting. The course material does not focus much on reserach and technological advances but really on the social position of med throughout history. You learn a lot of interesting stuff but maybe I was hoping for more.
Heavy for intro course, but quite clear in lectures. Gives way more detail than necessary, but her easy-to-follow Powerpoint lectures and efficient use of WebCT make her a good prof. Also quite fair in marking and deadlines (gives lots of prep time and lets you know way in advance).
Great class for first year students. I stress first year, because if you are a senior student this class is gravely frustrating. Lots of details, but little information. No attention paid to historiographical methods, and little on cultural analysis. Should be smaller.
Pretty boring class despite my interest. Term Paper will be a pain but she at least teaches you how to write one.
My feelings about the prof and this class are mixed. On one hand, she really does teach us how to write proper history papers, and I thoroughly enjoyed writing the term paper and other assignments. However, this class covers way too much material (what was I expecting... everything from Ancient Greece to early modern Europe in 3 months?) and she
she seems like a nice and good teacher - but wait until the final. you may feel lucky that she gives the final in advance to you know the questions - but then go and try to answer them - i worked for 4 days straight on them some are near impossible to answer. she expects too much with so many years of history covered- i do not recommend this class
This class was very manageable; the material was straightforward and clear. She made the time span digestable, and she grades fairly. Wallis is accomodating of first year students because she teaches important history-related skills.
WAAAAAAY too much material packed into a 1 semester course, she could have written a book with the material she packed into the course. To make matters worse she is very cold and unapproachable during her office hours. She does not want you disturbing her peace!
Great Professor. Organizes Lectures well. Material can seem abundant, but she organizes so it is not. However she is very COLD outside the classroom. She does not like to be disturbed. Inside the classroom, however, she goes out on a limb to help students.
Good use of WebCT (audio lectures, PowerPoint available). But a LOT of material covered, still she organizes it in a way that makes it manageable. very organized, interesting details. She doesn't try to cover everything. We learn a lot on how to write about history and read primary documents. But she is cold and unapproachable out of class.
I really do not like this women, I do not what it is maybe her smile - she is always smiling at something like she has a personal joke going on continually, but it gets worse when she is teaching because you feel as though there is something very amusing about a very dry subject. not very engaging...
Very enthusiastic about the subject matter, but it reaches a point of annoyance. Lots of material to cover, and huge term paper (4000 words). Cross your fingers your TAs mark the paper and not her...
I took euro history with her. Put it this way, i still have no clue who charlemagne was.
extremely enthusiastic, however immense knowledge of her material is almost a drawback. always going on tangents, she just has too much to say & lectures are often overwhelming. she has interesting material but don't even try to write down everything she says
Difficultly graded course. She is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about what she is teaching. Makes you want to learn. By the end of each class though does is a bit boring. Important to go to class or listen to lectures. NO midterm, and a take home final. The two papers are confusing, and they really give no guidance as to how to complete them.
Do not take this class! The professors are nice and some of the course material is pretty interesting but the grading is way too subjective. It's really not worth it! Don't take this class just because you think it might be interesting!
She is really enthusiastic about what she teaches, which makes what would be an unbearable course bearable. It is, however, fairly easy to get a good grade if you attend lectures and skim the readings for the final take-home exam. The other two papers are not directly related to the course material, so it's also easy to do well on those.
I've never met a prof that was so sweet and smiley. She's so passionate about what she teaches, which really shows in her lectures. Pretty easy too- take home final/midterm and term paper. Ended up with an A in the course (don't know how), and learned a lot! Will be taking whatever she teaches in the future :)
Very nice lady. Totally chili-pepper worthy.
Nice, helpful professor. Took the class because my friend is absolutely in love with her. It's very easy to get an A if you understand the concepts she wants you to learn, but if you don't -- good luck. A lot of material and some of it can be really confusing. However, she has thorough PPTs and lecture recordings, which was awesome.
Absolutely fantastic course! This is a wonderful introduction to the history of medicine, and was for me the beginning of an outright obsession with the field of study. Professor Wallis is helpful, clear, and very, very knowledgeable. IMO the professors divided the material well. Wallis is a better lecturer, while Schlich is a better writer.
Professors were amazing but if you didn't understand the concept then you're screwed, like a good portion of the class was. I was told it was a bird course, that is absolutely false. I thought the course was interesting but again, it was very difficult to get an A. Only take if you love love love history or you are used to writing intensive courses
Excellent profs, the material was super interesting. Difficult to get an A...the essays focus on writing everything you know rather than your writing style/arguments. Online lectures, online submissions, interesting readings.
She's a bit confusing at first but once you understand her lecture style you realize that she's great! Knows absolutely everything about medieval history and seems to love it. A very fair marker too, and she assigns a very reasonable amount of work/reading.
She sometimes tends to ramble a bit but definitely an interesting lecturer. Very sweet and knowledgable. Prompt with feedback and marks, great evaluation system and super approachable! You can get away with not having all the books. Overall had a great semester and would definitely take her again!
The class was really interesting and she's an excellent lecturer. Lectures are well organized. Textbook was barely used. 2 papers throughout the term and one final take home exam. The workload is pretty evenly distributed throughout the term. Marking depends on your TA, but I did well by keeping up to date with the material and going to see her/TAs
Good prof. Lectures are somewhat confusing if you don't know GreekRoman times. Essays and the final is also a take-home essay. Lectures were recorded. Take notes of what she says because this is the answer to the essay questions.
Such a sweet lady. And her lectures are extremely interesting. She also always answers emails quickly and obviously really cares about her students. I'd definitely recommend taking a class with her.
She talks pretty fast in her lectures but it's only because she is very passionate about the subject. She loves when you contribute to the lectures/conferences. She is super sweet and very knowledgeable.
Very clear, loves the middle ages, and will be of great help for papers. Always in a good mood. Ive taken classes in many different departments, and so far she is the best lecturer I've had (even compared to Petrifies, because she is clearer than him). The grading is fair, and the amount of reading just what you would expect for a history class.
Not only is she very knowledgeable about the subject matter, she's also very sweet and will not hesitate to answer any questions you may have. I definitely recommend this class if you have any interest in medieval history, or even if you're a health science student who's looking for a great social science class.
Very clear and passionate about the subject. Also very helpful when it comes to answering any questions you have!
She's great! Her lectures are very interesting and clear. The readings are really important for the final take home exam. The 2 papers focus on a primary source and any relevant readings. (The 2nd final paper also requires research.) I wish the whole course had been taught by her!
i had Professor Wallis for Medicine in the Medieval West and she truly is a delightful, kind, and passionate professor. However, I found that the material was extremely complex and at time not very well explained. The conference sections did a lot to help with my general understanding of the course (take the one the is directed by the prof)
She's really nice and great lecturer-- does justice to the material
Really humble and inspiring proffesor, super approachable and does justice to the material. Other prof can be slow and watched his recordings online just so that I could listen at 2X speed. Two papers and a take home final.
She's interesting and clearly loves the material. Also, the workload isn't too heavy since you can choose only to read what is required for the assignments and it is recorded. However, your grade is only based on 3 papers and the TAs were super strict. Don't take if you want anything more than a B+.
Professor Wallis is a great lecturer and always engages students. The course consists of two papers and one take home final (also in paper format) but she and her TAs are tough graders therefore I did not enjoy the course as much.
She gives good lectures and really cares about the material. The grading is somewhat tough, but it isn't hard too get at least a B, you just really have to work for it if you want an A. Readings are helpful and interesting, but you only really need to do the ones related to the paper topics if you don't have a lot of time.
Get ready to read a lot of primary sources, and then write a lot about them. 8-10 page paper is the norm for the final, with a shorter paper beforehand. Wallis really knows her stuff and is more than willing to give you help if you e-mail her. Go to lecture, she's funny and you learn more than just doing the reading.
She's VERY knowledgeable, her lectures are informative and fun! She's the kind of historian you really want to aim to become. My only issue is how difficult it is to get above a B+ if you're not completely invested in medieval knowledge already. I get after days of research on assignments because there's just so much info scattered around!
She is very lively in class and passionate about the material. Gives good instructions, clear powerpoints and knows a lot! I was not interested in the topic but she kept me focused. Easy to get a B, but you have to work for an A.
Wallis is a very lively lecturer but sometimes it is not clear at what point she is getting at. Her lecture slides included a lot of information which made it difficult to read and pay attention to what she was saying. You have to actually work for a good grade but a B is not too difficult to attain. Do the readings before class.
This class was great, especially while she was the prof, second guy was boring. Had no interest in the class but one of the easiest grades I've got. If you're good at writing essays this class is a walk in the park. Definitely attend while she's there. Didn't go for the second half.
easy class. amazing prof. cool content. easy grading. only 3 papers inlcuding the final!!!! take it.
She's really a gem of a person. Always sweet and caring toward her students and will patiently answer all questions. Grading by TAs is decently tough so have to work to get an A.
She's extremely knowledgeable and genuinely cares for her students to do well! Lectures are interesting as well
Amazing! So knowledgeable and sweet. Very accessible out of class and always eager to respond to questions. If you are good at writing essays and reading sources you will do well in this class. The content is very interesting. Only three papers. Fair grading. The readings are interesting, so recommend doing them even though you may not need all.
