Shes easy and you dont hafta go to class.
F. Gong was amazing! Her class was extremely easy and I learned a lot. It was very surprising to me to find how much she enjoys student comments! If you want a good grade have lots of comments during class!
Prof. Gong is awesome! As long as you go to class and take good notes you WILL get an A. Don't bother buying the textbook, she goes over all of it in class.
I found sociology to be a very interesting subject
Dr. Gong uses a lot of movies and video clips to apply what you study to reality. You definitely can't walk out of this class thinking "I'm never going to use this." Take good notes, but if you have trouble understanding something, raise your hand and she'll explain. She's really patient, helpful and friendly.
If you can get this woman for Soc, do it! She obviously has a Chinese accent, but she hardly ever stumbles over words and is easy to understand. You will see many movies and she drops lots of grades at the end of the course.
Very easy and helpful. Don't buy the actual textbook but do get the workbook, you'll have quizzes over it and plenty of extra credit oppurtunities.
I can barely understand what she says because she is foreign. The tests were easy because they were from the notes off the powerpoints & the book. Other points are from inclass work & worksheets. Its not a bad class, but her voice & accent really distracted me.
she drops 2 quizes and one exam... there is no final exam
Her lectures aren't particuarly interesting, but she is very friendly and helpful, and her class is pretty easy. She always encourages students to ask questions and to visit her during office hours. Attendance is taken with occasional in-class activities. As other people have mentioned, she drops certain grades at the end of the semester.
The class itself is easy. Just take notes, you don't really need to do the reading because you won't be tested on it. But as a teacher, I really don't like her. She's super awkward and a bit hard to understand. Seems like she should be teaching first grade, not college students.
Easiest class ever. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Seriously though, if you need a GPA boost, this class is for you.
Extremely easy class. Perfect for getting the Social Science Core credit. Only buy the text book if you want extra credit it's not necessary otherwise. The only thing you need to get an A on the tests are the Study guide which she posts online. You can find all the answers to the study guide in the Lecture Power Points which are also online.
She's awful. Period.
An amazing professor. She's super sweet and always willing to help her students. She knows almost everyone in my lecture of about 200 by their name and always asks if we have questions. Always has extra credit opportunities and study guides also!
Easy class! She has an accent but its not difficult to understand her. Go to class and don't leave early... she sometimes has random quizzes to see who is paying attention. Study guides and lots of e.c. opportunities! The study guides help so much so do them. She also gives you a week to take the test. Awesome lady and very willing to help.
Her lectures will kill you. She tries too hard to get a large lecture involved instead of just giving the material and going she like to talk and go on forever. I do not recommend taking this on a Tues or Thurs - it will be the longest class of your life. It honestly feels like a joke to begin with.
The class was really easy but the tests were really hard for some reason. She posts all of the power points on Blackboard and is happy to work with you. She cares about her students and wants to help you succeed. I just had a difficult time with the tests because I hate INQSIT.
She makes this course so interesting! We watched documentaries, movies, and had frequent group discussions. Only one final, which is super easy, and she prepares you for it. I would definitely recommend this class!
She tried to keep students engaged and interested but the class was still boring. I only went for iClicker points.
She tries to engage the class too much instead of just teaching. Be warned, I bought a workbook for her class, then she didn't make any of the assignments in it required. I was mad about spending money on it. The class was actually too easy in my opinion, and didn't challenge me very much.
Honestly, Fang Gong makes class so straight forward and the questions she asks in class will almost always be on the test. She drops your lowest test score, 2 lowest quiz scores, as well as 2 lowest participation grades. She is also so understanding. Definitely recommend her for an easy A and an actually interesting class!
Need Sociology reader, don't need textbook. Drops 2 absences (participation is graded) and 2 lowest quizzes. Drops lowest or missed exam as well. I used this to my advantage: I attended every class and completed all assignments + 3 exams. I didn't have to attend the last week of classes and I am not required to take the final. I am done with an A.
Her lectures are so long and terrible. I always studied for the test and they were so hard, never got better than a C even though the lecture material was really easy. Would not recommend.
Really nice and very easy course. Drops many assignments so its pretty hard to fail. I received A's on all my tests, All you need to do is listen and get involved in her many attempts at increasing class participation. I passed without ever looking at the text.
This was my easiest class. All you need to study for the test are the power points she posts online. Unfortunately you must show up for class because she does clicker points almost everyday.
Easy Class! Essays were a joke, tests were a piece of cake, and she drops a lot of grades. She does have too many iClicker questions and attendance is mandatory to get the points, but other than that great GPA booster.
She has a small accent but it is still really easy to understand her. I would strongly suggest taking this class online since I could easily teach myself the material in a fourth of the time she takes in class. Her class material is really slow. She takes clicker points so show up to class. In class she often uses examples from media.
Pass the tests and you pass the class. Attendance isn't really mandatory, and there's so many students, no one even notices. However, she has pop quizzes on the iclickers and attendance checks on random days.
She cares about what her students think and does a survey during a class and adapts the class to the students comments. Her tests use many real life examples.
Honestly, I took this as a blow off class and I turned out really loving it. I thought I was more of a Psychology person. Turns out I am amazing at Sociology. I am looking into furthering my interest in this department. I really appreciated Fang's teaching. A tad on the slow side, but it felt nice to kick back and learn instead of stress.
Dr. Gong is a nice professor with a small Chinese accent. There's 4 exams (last one counts as non-cumulative final) and 3 essays. She puts her lecture notes online. The study guides are super close to tests. I only showed up to class because she uses the iClicker for participation points and pop quizzes. Oh, and no phones and no laptops policy.
Good Instructor and very driven to better her as a professor and to better her course to fit the need of the students. textbook is required, but the "Cooley" reader is not necessary and the "Reader" as she refers to it is just extra credit sheets. She is a bit socially awkward and has boring lectures, but you must attend due to her random quizzes.
Her class was incredibly slow paced and it was sometimes pointless to show up to class. All of the information is online but she has so many iclicker questions throughout the class. I never used the textbook but the reader is extra credit at the end of the year.
All you need to get an A in this class is a pulse. Study the lecture material before tests and you'll be fine. You don't even use the textbook all that much. just come to class so you don't miss participation, attendance checks, and pop quizzes.
Excellent professor. I had her for SOC 100 and she peaked my interest in the field. This is a class about the Sociology of Mental Health and it is fascinating. Since it is a 400 level course, there is quite a bit of reading required but is typically over very interesting topics. In class discussion was also what made this class great. 100% suggest!
great teacher. very clear and kind. great study guides for the tests. you can't get too butthurt in lectures when talking about sexuality etc... it is a sociology class. any teacher is forced to discuss the same topics. she is wonderful compared to the other soc teachers
PP's are online and she adds nothing extra in her lecture. For me, the iclicker assignments are the only reason to show. You only get 3 absences but nobody knows what happens if you go over & at this point I'm afraid to ask. If you know anything about social issues you will find this class a frustrating easy A. Don't bother with the textbook
Professor Gong is amazing! She gives clear material and provides examples that help relate the material through videos. She is very caring of her students and loves when people participate in discussions in class.
The class is pretty easy. Never opened the textbook once, wouldn't buy it. The other workbook thing I wouldnt buy either unless you want some small extra credit points. All the lecture notes she puts online.
Dr. Gong is the nicest professor ever. She gives opportunity for extra credit. She also provides ample time to prepare for papers (3 of them) and tests. She is also very neutral and will respect students' ideas.
Overall great teacher!
Shes always up for participation and being involved. Always has great lectures and I really enjoy her class. She doesnt allow electronics and thats about the worst part of her class.
I really enjoyed Dr. Gong's sociology class, never had any homework, wrote 3 very easy 2-page papers, but iclickers are basically your grade so come to class. 4 exams all semester and if you study her study guides for them then you will be just fine.
Her lectures consist of clips from mean girls and the big bang theory. I would recommend her for a student who is looking for a course where they can study the night before and pass exams. However, if you are genuinely interested in sociology don't take this professor. iclickers are annoying but that's how she does her quizzes and participation.
Plays way too many videos during class that she doesn't correlate to the information given very well. Lectures are boring and she never knows what she's doing on the computer. Pretty sure she uses fake charts and graphs
She was very nice and passionate about sociology!
Dr. Gong is a pretty good prof, if you show up, listen, and do the few papers she assigns then it should be an easy A.
Dr. Gong is what spurred my interest in becoming a Sociology major. While it is lecture heavy, she explains everything fairly simply. She does hope for participation in a larger lecture class, so just be prepared for that awkwardness. Really awesome teacher, no issues at all! Would definitely take again!
Make sure to attend class or you won't pass. Tests aren't super hard but make sure to memorize vocab terms. Textbooks are not needed, don't waste your money.
She is an easy professor and you get a lot of extra credit. There are 4 exams, they are pretty easy just study her powerpoints and you'll be fine. Also she drops like your lowest 3 quiz scores I'm pretty sure.
This class is kind of a joke. Show up, take notes, study the study guide using your notes, and then take the test with minimal studying. Miss a lecture? Its fine, you might lose 10 participation points but you can google the definitions on the study guide easily. Also, don't read the extra readings. You get the gist of them from the titles.
will try and connect with the class, but it never works. Tests are just like the study guide, class can drag on at times.
Boring teacher. Study guides dont match tests. Dont need the book but get the reader to get extra credit points.
Gong was an amazing teacher! She provides so many examples and scenarios in her lecture to really help the students understand the concepts. She does have clicker pop quizzes, but she talks about the questions earlier in the lecture and gives you the answer. Her grading criteria is so easy to understand, and she is very considerate of her students.
I love Dr Gong, she is so kind and participating is so much fun! I loved the class, and Dr Gong made my semester far more pleasant. Also, dont let the name throw you off, she is very easy to understand
She is an incredibly sweet woman who will work with you to make sure you succeed. She uses the iClickers to make sure you're paying attention, so don't miss too many sessions. Tests aren't painful and the material covered is always followed by a group discussion. Would definitely take a class of hers again in the future.
This class is very discussion based and you do not have to participate in those but there are iClicker points every day. She gave us two paper assignments and there are multiple opportunities for extra credit. She shows a lot of youtube clips in lecture and does not allow computers out in class.
Dr. Gong's exam are pretty easy to get A's on. She does offer extra credit, and she drops the 3 lowest quizzes in the class. She is very understand and quick to respond to emails.
She's a pretty good person. Would take her again mostly because the rest of the sociology professors are not amazing. Her accent is a little thick, but nothing you can't understand. She tries to get the class involved (but most of the time fails miserably). One complaint would she says no phones or computers in class.
dr. gong is great. show up to class and pay attention. make sure you answer the iclicker questions. you technically do not have to physically write out notes (and she will make this clear) because she posts all of the lecture notes on canvas. honestly, this is a great class. i was not bombarded with homework, and i learned a whole lot.
Look, this is legitimately the easiest course at ball state. Gong is the goat. Go to class only for the iclicker points. Quiz about every other class, the answers are common sense and she drops the lowest 3. No homework, only a couple CHEESE essays i did in 30 minutes for full points. Study guide is the test and answers on quizlet.
Dr. Gong is great! Posts her PowerPoints on Canvas. Two papers over the course of the semester. Attendance taken every class by iClicker. Some "pop quizzes" at the end of classes but it's literally over what you learned that day so it's super easy. Shes funny and a good prof. Exams aren't hard, plus EC opportunities if you get the Reader assigned.
She is a great teacher. She really cares for her students and wants them to succeed! The lectures are a little boring and long but she tries her hardest to make jokes, show videos in order to make it enjoyable. exams are not hard as long as you took notes, participation matter and you'll lose many points if you don't come. Great professor!
Very engaging and exams are not that hard if you go to class and pay attention. She plays videos and class is never boring!
Fang Gong is a nice professor who always leaves comments on assignments you turn in online. She's a pretty easy grader. The biggest issue is she NEVER answers emails. I have emailed her multiple times and never got a response to either of them. Don't plan to ever contact her for online classes.
Lectures were super interesting! Lots of videos and outside sources were used to further explain and understand sociological concepts. Very cool class, would take again.
A very sincere professor who loves what she teaches. Lecture heavy and use of iclicker is mandatory. Quizzes and tests are very easy with only a few writing assignments due. 2 Textbooks but not completely necessary. Very Funny. Lots of extra credit options. Easy A
Something I think is funny is that when most students gave feedback on wanting to use laptops to take notes, Dr. Gong just said "no". The only reason you need to go is for the iClicker quizzes, but I listened in class and just took the notes off Canvas in my dorm. Pretty easy tests and essays.
The class structure was well-organized. The professor provided excellent feedback and communication. I learned a lot during my summer course.
She's an incredibly easy professor, go to class and do your work and you get an easy A.
Professor Gong was really sweet! She takes attendance via iClickers so make sure to actually buy one. The required book is $7 but the only time I had to use it for extra credit (I didn't do it). She grades fairly easy and the class is mostly definitions so the test are easy. The class could get a little boring but the discussions were good!
Her tests are HARD! She takes attendance by iclickers. She requires you to buy a book that is $7ish dollars that she and her team wrote for extra credit. The iclickers matter because she will use them for test questions. I felt you needed to do the extra credit to get an A, if you didn't you would get an A- or lower.
The book is mandatory but the cheapest book you'll probably get. Iclicker is required and used for attendance. Attendance is mandatory and will hurt your grade badly if you don't go to class. Exams are lockdown browser with a camera. Does a little bit of extra credit.
Dr. Gong is very sweet and super understanding. Lecture could get boring sometimes, but it's obvious she tries hard to make it engaging. She is fairly receptive to criticism. iClicker is mandatory for attendance and is also how she offers extra credit. The text for the class is relatively cheap and is another way to get extra credit.
There aren't many assignments and most of them are very short and can be completed in less than thirty minutes. Lots of extra credit is offered. This class could be a GPA boost honestly.
Very easy class with very boring lectures. It is easy to tell she tries to engage the students in the best ways she can, it just didn't work and it made the lectures boring. She uses iClicker for both attendance and extra credit. If you just participate in class she gives you a bunch of extra credit at the end of the semester.
Great professor.Very easy going 10/10 recommend. Textbook not needed but she gave use a free pdf copy. You will need to by a $10 book but that's it. She does iclickers. We usually have class discussions and fun activities. She also gives study guides. Need lockdown browser fro test and exams. She is pretty chill. Have fun
Dr. Gong was really nice and her class was pretty easy. You just need to keep up with the quizzes and readings. The reading questions are self paced which I appreciated.
Doctor" Gong was very kind and her class was quite simple. You only need to stay on top of the quizzes and the readings. I liked that the reading questions can be completed at my own speed.
Dr. Gong is nice. I never really interacted with her, but she seemed very caring. The tests were very easy, and the book was only $10! She also tries to make the lass interactive which is nice so it's not boring.
I found her class to be very easy, and she is pretty understanding. I missed literally most of the classes and still passed with a pretty great grade. There are points for attendance, but as long as you do good on the readings and exams, you're good if you miss a lot.
