Best Bio teacher~
I was enrolled in her class, but sat in on Visco's lectures a few times with a friend. Visco is much better. If you can, take his class instead.
It's amazingly easy to get a B while it is a challenge to get an A. Dr. Sogo's great knowledge of Bio. and power-point slides make her lectures top-notch.
WAY too over enthusiastic, she is so 'proud' of teaching that she stuffs it in your throat like a grinder! other than that shes good, just too "much", but in a good way i guess....
I don't enjoy her class!!!
very weird teacher but still nice
Took her Honors class, great professor. She will help you learn the material. She pushes you, but if your major is in Bio, you must take her class. Very helpful!
This class is confusing- not the material, but what you are expected to know. She teaches soo much that never shows up on tests. I studied the night before each one and got B+s on them all. She's weirdly over-enthusiastic, yet her lectures are boring.
Her lecture are too long.
She is a great teacher; very helpful. Take her class if you major in Bio. She offers extra credit and labs are so important for her.
she is very fast. if you look down for two secs, you might lose your place. but she is organized and incredibly intelligent and excited. she is a great teacher, and i recommend her highly. just beware of the speed issue.
I cant believe no one says shes hot cause she is!
uh...this teacher seems easi goin but when it comes to extra credits and tests, she is freakin strict. It's like a total face change you know..But overall, she's alrite. She should be more clear on wat is gona be on da test though, that would be betta.
Good teacher. Most of the test comes from her lecture (study the question at the back of each lecture.) Very Helpful. Tests are a little tricky esp. the written part.
sorry but you've gotta hear this: you know how we LOVE to have enthusiastic, passionate teachers who teach? well, Farah does fit this criteria, but, you are being warned, prepare to enter an over-enthusastic world that makes you wanna have second thoughts about "enthusiastic" teachers. lol.
her lectures are long, and boring... she goes too fast and tests are pretty hard (worse if you are not a bio major)... but she nice and very energetic!
She's the worst bio teacher ever. She goes really fast and is very boring. Her exams are VERY HARD! She think's that the class is for medical students. She also gives you some extra credits but they are very hard with very few points. She does not know how to teach bio, not clear at all
The worst bio teacher ever, her tests are extremly difficult and detailed. also she grades really hard.
I think I speak for many when I say that as soon as she starts lecturing, most of the class is lost/sleeping/confused/turned off. She is very enthusiastic and intelligent, but she needs to try a different approach to teaching.
She is Dr. Stupid to me, she is so stupid that she laughs at her own jokes. Her tests would make more sense if they were written in Latin. Avoid this class!!!!
Dr. Sogo's class is NOT easy, but she does give you plenty of opportunities to raise your grade. There are weekly extra credit assignments given which are not difficult to finish. The tests are HARD, but they are based mostly on lecture, so try not to miss class. Study the lecture manual, do the
Very energetic! As long as you study her notes and the study guides, it's an easy class.
Dr. Sogo is an excellent professor. I earned an A in her class. Thoroughly understand the study guides in the lecture manual and attend class regularly. Make sure you take advantage of the extra credit she offers. If you are a serious student you and want to learn, you will do fine in her class.
if you're into science, you'll love her class. Her exams are freakin' hard but very strait forward. problem set homeworks are much more difficult than test so you should use it as your study guide. and the vocabs, that will probably determine if you get an A or a B. cheers.
I have taken Bio 182,183, and 210. All those other teachers are way better. She is by far the worse bio teacher ever, on one of her tests she changed the wording of some choices to make even less sense.Listening to her lecture will only confuse you, test wording is very ambiguous. Take at another JC.
Very easy class, genetics is a piece of cake. great teacher
hmm... i just... couldn't... stand more than 15 minutes during her lecture... chair is too comfortable and it's just too boring... her tests come directly from the lecture manual, so try to memorize some of them and u will be fine. By the way, the class is a good place to sleep if u have insomnia
If you want to get an A, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!! If you want to work your ass off and get a C, then you should take this class. The teacher is nice but she deliberatly makes the quizzes and test impossible to weed out all the students that arn't serious about the subject. Most ppl I know regret taking this class becuase it screwed up their gpa.
By far the easiest bio class i have taken. Just study the lecture manual and you'll do fine. She even offers a lot of extra credit!
this class isn't really that hard in regards to learning complicated material... but it's the time and effort that will make or break your grade.. I didn't even read the book and got an A in the class.. the trick is to learn her lecture manual in "extreme detail" and also make sure you know what each and every vocabulary word means.. she's fair
Depend on your ability. Genetics is a piece of pepper to me (: This professor absolutely knows what is she talking about.

I love Dr. Sogo. Mind you, I love all bio teachers. lecture manual - memorize, vocab - know, have fun with it all. fairly easy class for me, including the lab...some people had major problems in her course because they didnt do the studying as she was giving material. study early, and you'll do extremely well!
The exams are hard. Know her manual and vocab well. The major problem I had with the class is she never proof reads her own materials. Even the exams have multiple errors. This was very frustrating for me, considering how harshly she grades lab reports. If your lab report is not fit to be published in Journal Nature, don't expect an A
Her spirits are always high, and she works real hard to educate and help you.Labs too long, hard work required, but probly best prof ever.Lots of animations real helpful. She's up to date!Takes lots of questions, never seems to tire.Around in lab to help,in addition to office hours.Pace yourself, know lecture, pretty easy, straightfrwd A.
She is very unclear, unhelpful, and condescending. Exams do not emphasize important or relevant concepts. Labs are torture. Don't ask her a question because she will make you regret it. She very rarely allows time for questions in lecture. Don't do it!
I don't know why people complain about her. She is a very nice teacher, always has an smile on her face and is very motivated. Her tests are not hard if you study what she asks you to study. She is also very helpful. If you ask a question she will answer it with an smile on her face. I don't know what's the problem with people complaining about he
Her tests are hard and seemed to be designed for PHD level. What sucks is that she doesnt have a textbook to go along with lecture content- the text she assigns is way to basic compared to lectures. She is haughty, conscending, and elitist. Her lectures are interesting however, its just a hard class period. Take somewhere else if you want an easy A.
I am going to change major no more biology major. If you want to be the Biology major, take this class first to find out Bio is good for you.
She's so hilarious :] like a little kid who loves bio. Yet, at the same time, you know she's well educated and passionate about her field. Her class is pretty difficult. Some of the questions are pretty specific. I'd recommend not taking her for lab either [Knauer grades more easily] But if you study the lecture manual you'll do well.
She's a great teacher, always in a positive mood and she makes Biology easy to learn. Her labs are ok(clearly step by step instructions). Overall, to do great in her class just put in time studying *Tip: STUDY her study suggestions and vocabulary and go over her lecture manual a couple of times and you'll do great on exams. she also offers EC
Great teacher! she has a great personality and makes bio fun. u learn alot of interesting things from her and she helps you out with what to study for by giving you vocabs and study suggestions. recommended indeed
The teacher is very active. She is always smiling. I learned a lot from her. The class is not easy. On the lecture, she's going too fast. Her exams are not easy. You must study hard to get an "A." Overall, the class is great.
she is a very positive person, you can tell she loves doing what she's doing. A is possible but you do have to invest lots of time studying.
Possible to get an A in her class if you study the book manual and if you attend her classes because in lecture, she gives lots of information that is not on the book and this material is covered on the exams. Good suggestion is not to take her for lab because she is kind of hard in grading the labs. Exams are very straight foward if you study.
so far this class seems exhausting, but you can clearly tell that dr. sogo really likes teaching and has a passion for biology....take her class! oh ya.. and the tuesday lab has the hottest T.A.
wonderful Biol professor!take her and you will find that Biol is so interesting.she's passionate, helpful and kind.her lab is quite hard on grading.attend class, writing down her notes and eat the lecture manual for the exam(EAT IT if you want to have A).but it's worth.I got 98% in her exam.
Dr. Sogo is awesome!!! Her lectures are very interesting and I actually find myself paying attention to what she's saying. She's a really happy, helpful, and extremely nice. Study her lecture notes, EXTREMELY HELPFUL. Not too hard in grading labs. I would totally recommend her to anyone planning on taking bio 181
Her exam are tough, don't take her if you don't want your lower GPA.
she's one of those teachers that still gets really excited every time that she teaches a lesson and it kept me awake in class. she is not hard at all if you just take good notes along with her lecture handout. I never used the book, but I bought it because she said it's a great reference. she awesome for people who have trouble staying awake
Be careful and detailed on lab reports. She reads every word. The tests are straightforward. She dumbs the material down, which actually confused me sometimes. I only went through text that matched lecture and book's online quizzes. Do the review for lab final. Avoid Bialecki! Take her class.
She is a HORRBILE TEACHER!!! She lectures like she's high, her tests are impossible, She doesn't curve which makes no sense. She looks at you like you're an idiot if you don't understand something. Looking at her gives me an ulcer, take Bialecki he's amazing. Dr. sogo is not meant to be a teacher.
The class started out pretty easy and fun, but as it progresses toward the end it turned into pure hell. The info alone is already complicated enough. Her lectures are unorganized. If u ever ever ever have to take this class with her DONT EVEN BOTHER BUYING THE BOOK OR LECTURES, THEY ARE USELESS AND CONFUSING. I worked my ass off for her A.
great teacher. interesting lecture. very hard in grading lab tho, so be detailed. EAT the lecture manual and you'll get an A in all the tests. study every single slide in her lecture manual then the test will be easy.
The material isn't easy, but she does a good job of explaining it. Her tests are straight forward, just do the homework and vocab.
she is really stupid.blieve me.she doesnt know different bet. biochem and celullar biology.dont waste your time.take somewhere else
I don't know why you guys always complain about Dr. Sogo. probably cuz you didn't study hard in her class. I bet if you study hard then by the end of semester you gonna understand everything about this class. EAT the lecture notes. take her lab if you really wanna learn, otherwise it would be a disaster cuz she read every single words
She's great. She really into her subject and very knowledgeable, plus she is good about answering questions and helping you.
She's really hard especially on grading her lab write ups and if you don't understand anything, she'll explain it to you, but make you feel dumb. Her attitude SUCKS for a teacher and she goes way too fast in lecture. She teaches the material as if we already have a master's degree in bio.
Exams are based entirely on the lecture notes; very straightforward. She teaches the subject after drinking like 20 Monsters, shes so wired up its unbelievable. Put in the TIME and you will get a B or A. (not an easy subject)
to gen a b is easy.but if u want to get an a to hard.u have to study 8 hours a day to get an a every day,not just for exams.she can not describe the subject good.
Good teacher for the most part, she tries hard to keep people interested in lecture but damn if most people still don't fall asleep. Basically study lecture notes do the e.c. vocab and you'll be fine, easier teacher than bialecki and you rarely use the book just study the lecture notes and you too can get an A in bio 181.
if u want to take bio 181 take in uc because u can get credit for uc at least.this course is too hard and sogo is stupid teacher.she really cant teach.a got an A but doesnt worth.
A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD TO REPEAT THE CLASS. WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING THEY GOT A'S AND B'S? I'M RETAKING THE CLASS AND I SEE MANY PEOPLE RETAKING IT 'CAUSE WE ALL FAILED (D OR LOWER). SHE IS A HARD TEACHER. SHE ZIPS THROUGH AS IF WE EARNED BACHELOR DEGREES ALREADY. 1 POINT EX. CRED. FOR 100 (LESS/MORE) VOCAB. USELESS. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! To even get a C, you need to study biology like it's your only class. Very time consuming, and for her labs she grades harshly and she's very picky. I suggest you take another teacher for lab and lecture. She talks to you like you have a master's in biology.
WHAT CAN I SAY?HORRIBLE.DO NOT TAKE HER.
She is a boring lecturer and poor test writer. But the tests are still pretty easy if you study. homework and extra credit vocab covers everything that may be on the test. she is kinda funny and loves the topics, but the powerpoints are boring. she could make it a little more interesting i guess... but shes always willing to help and is very nice.
All could want in professor. She makes sure you know everything you're going to need later but is still very reasonable with grades and the time expected for a 4 unit class. She is also very nice and approachable when you have questions. If bio is not your major, don't take. Not what this class was intended for!
Our genetics class was the last one to be hard. The semester after ours, the average tests were about B+. Our class average were D's every test. I think its because everyone wrote bad evaluations, thats why she had to change her class. It was extremely time consuming and ridiculously hard.
Her class is not that difficult. She grades extremely hard on the first test, and (maybe because many do not do so great on the first test) she is more lenient on grading with the rest. Do good on her first test! & the rest of course. I would recommend her. She is a great teacher.
Dr. Sogo is a wonderful and exceptionally well organized professor; all the tools necessary to succeed are provided: textbook and homework are essential. Genetics is a challenging topic and Dr. Sogo's teaching technique is beyond reproach; and, she is always available to answer any questions. If you have a chance- take Dr. Sogo's class.
I don't know why many of the students are complaining. She is extremely charming, smart, and does her job quite well. All you really need is to follow her guidlines for the lab, and look over the lecture manual for the tests. The hw isn't too bad and she offers plenty of chances to redeem yourself through extra points on the test and vocab. Take he

Everyone who said she was a hard teacher is just not smart. This class is for Pre-Med, Dent students. So naturally everyone is smarter. Just study her notes and you will be fine. Don't freak out either. I barely studied and got a 95 on the first test. Study all the notes and questions she gives for hw.
She is an extremely motivational teacher and she is hilarious. All the students claiming that she is too difficult and that they did not like her is because they probably didn't do that well. Just study her lecture notes and do the homework and you will be fine. The extra credit is kinda useless it takes an hour and u get 1 point. Just ace tests!
She is a great teacher who is very energetic during lecture. The lecture manual is a big plus (you spend more time listening than note taking in lecture), homework is key to success, and tests are easy if homework is done (brutal if not). Make sure you attend lecture, or concepts will be lost (serious). Turn in hw and lab reports, or an A is hard.
her class is hard... i saw a lot of students got C or B (including me), and i have never seen student who got A in this class.
do not even bother buying the textbook, her lecture book is all u need, do the homework, EC vocab, and eat her lecture book. She's a very good teacher, makes every concept as simple as possible.
Definately time consuming class, but reasonable. She's there to help people.
Loved this teacher. She explains things well, she is interesting and passionate. Getting an A in this class is totally within reach if you do the homework( a must!! Do not underestimate this her tests are based off of the homework). take her if you have the chance. Can?t wait to take her again for genetics.
THe lecture manual is the key to getting a good grade in this class, and textbook isnt really needed but can be used to reinforce ur study. Tests are straightforward, usually has stuff from the lecture manual. One thing to watch out for is the LAB PRACTICAL, which is a test form another teacher, and her study guide wont help for it
Study the lecture manual and do the best you can on the problem sets. Sometimes she's not crystal clear when she lectures and rushes but she gives a lots of hints on how to solve problems that might be on the exam. The final was harder than the normal tests.
She is a great teacher....Just read the lecture notes and you will be fine. Don't even have to buy the text book...She is very helpful. Don't underestimate the lab tough... I had an A in the lecture but did not do very good on the lab final so I got a B in the class. But def. take bio with Dr. Sogo...
Sogo is a big genetics enthusiast and intellect which makes class very fascinating. The material is challenging but Sogo provides lots of office hour for help. There are 3 exams, an intense final and a hw packet due every week or so. The problem sets are very time consuming but if you understand them then you'll be fine on the exams.
If you have some sort of background on bio then it's possible to get an A. You have to work hard and her test is mostly base on her lecture notes. Those are super useful. She's funny and great at explaining things if you go to her office hours. Questions on her exams are pretty much straight forward.
Mark Perkins just posts his notes online. For some reasons, Sogo decides to charge her notes. I don't really think that's ethical. Most materials in her lecture manual are NOT her ORIGINAL ideas. She just took the stuff from the book and put them in the lecture manual. She needs to remember that we all have to spend money buying TEXTBOOKS!
This is one of the most organzed enthuiastic prof. I've ever had. She has a lecture manual and its all you need to bring to class. The exam is based on her lectures and there are no surprises. and she gives extra credit. I am a huge fan!
I loved her. Sure I fell asleep most of the time in class, but she really prepares you for her tests. Reading the lecture manual is the key to getting an A in this class. It is pure memorization & she is so incredibly helpful & nice. She reminds me of Sandra Bullock.
Sogo is a good professor. She is organized and gives you a lecture manual to study and provides you with an online version of the text for free! The key to getting an A in this class is to basically memorize the lecture manual and do the homeworks. It's not that difficult if you do this.
You should do fine on the exams if you pay attention in class, do homework and thoroughly go through the lecture manual. Attend class or you half to learn by yourself! Her lecture manual is very useful, it's a must HAVE. Having the textbook is useful for homework but not necessary for studying or the exam. She is good overall so take her!
She is a very nice prof. Her exams are easy in my opinion. U should get an easy A if u study the lecture manual. I suggest u should do the hw, for it will help u memorize the materials easier.
this class is not hard but very time-consuming. you have 8 homework, 4 tests, 1 comprehensive final . there are also lab write ups, prelabs and one lab final that contribute. The exams, in my opinion, are not hard if you know the material well and do the homework. I got an A but work my ass off for it. Also, lab final was the hardest.
Very passionate about he subject and very nice to students.materials r abit dry to consume&you've got to do the HW in order to do the tests well. the questions r math oriented but there r also knowledge questions. read the lecture manual carefully(optionally memorize it) and do HW u'll be fine. try to get high test scores cause final's very hard
Love her class! Super nice, energetic, and helpful. Also taking her for lab and she goes over every little details. Personally, I like her teaching style. As for her lecture, pay attention in class, do her homework, study her lecture manual like there's no tomorrow, and you will get a good grade. She can get a bit nitpicky on her exams.
good and fun class but requires lots of hard work. i got top high end A in class bcos i worked really hard. the lecture manual is great. everything comes off it , so lear it off by heart (thats what i did) and i usually aced all my exams lol. soho is really nice as well
She was nice and helpful during office hours, but this class is useless to go to the lecture for; just reads straight from her lecture manual. Tests in my opinion were extremely difficult and even though I studied for endless hours I still ended up with only a C in her class.
Hard.. The only people who say she's "easy" are those who had AP bio in hs or maybe have taken bio100. So I recommend take bio100 before, or if you have taken AP bio in hs. First class I've ever dropped. Lectures are extremely boring. Reads from the powerpt, which is in the manual book you MUST buy. Read the textbook before the semester starts.
She was so nice! The lectures were kind of pointless and the homework was super easy online. Minimal studying and I got C's on all the tests. I took AP Bio in high school and this class was very similiar to the cirriculum taught in AP Bio.
Such a hard class but that was expected at this level. The format of this class was very similar to bio 180. But for this class you are expected to really understand the material not just memorize it. Memorization woul not get you anywhere in genetics. Do well in your tests cuz her final is very comprehensive and hard! Overall great class!
This class is very time consuming because of all the things you need to memorize. Got an A from memorizing the lecture manual, do not buy the textbook you do not need it for anything but the glossary. Try your best to stay awake in lectures...
Lectures are okay. You do a worksheet at every class and a quiz every 2 weeks. The hw is weekly and is graded by completion. There are 4 exams total (no cumulative), which require a lot of studying if you want to get an A. She also offers a lot of EC, which really helps. Easy class, just a bit time consuming with all the studying. Take!
Passionate teacher. You can really tell she loves what she does. Her lectures are straight from her lecture book which can make class a little boring but her enthusiasm is what kept me interested. Tests are extremely fair, all questions come straight from her lecture book. Study/memorize her lecture book, every part of it. Great teacher, take her!
AMAZING! She is an adorable little science nerd. She lives and breathes to learn and teach biology. I took her for Human Biology, I didn't know a teacher could make it interesting. She's a sweetheart and an amazing professor. There are 7 tests and you have to do the homework online. She even sends reminder emails about the homework on Sundays.
Take Bialecki, both classes are hard but his tests are hard based off of the questions he asks which are clear and concise just technical, while sogos class is hard because the layout and questions are silly even if you do her 6 page hw's which she swears are like the test questions. Lab is the same for all teachers easy
Exams are not hard as long as you put the time & effort into studying. hw does help if you use it as a means of studying instead of just doing it for the credit. Lectures are what you need to know; I barely used the book. EC helps, too. She's nice & not boring. Crystal clear at lectures. Not a hard class to get an A. Lab is doable, too.
Dr. Sogo's enthusiasm for Biology is obvious. You can tell that she really enjoys teaching. Each class was a PP presentation coinciding with chapter material. She frequently had videos interspersed throughout the lectures. Exams are straightforward, right from the PP handouts and (optional) HW assignments. If you like Bio, it's hard not to like her
Horrible teacher! Her lectures are so boring and the way she words the questions on her tests is confusing. Even if you study for hours it's hard to do well in her class. Honestly the worst teacher I have ever taken. Lab is easy, no matter what teacher you take.
Here's how it works: Lecture notes are your go-to resource. Print them out, show up, fill them in and review them over and over and over. Her homework style may have changed, but just do it once and review it twice. Exams are Multiple Choice and a Free Response section. Lectures are long, but they have most of what you need.
Dr. Sogo is hands down one of the most brilliant professors on the OCC campus. She is very knowledgeable and is very clear and concise in the way she lectures and goes about teaching her students. Its important to understand that in order to do well in her class you need to practice and put in review time. Tests are tough, but would 100% reccomend.
Straight forward class, ppt lectures, exams come from ppt slides but are very detail oriented. Super in office hours. Lab final is the worst, study for it! Great professor, would take again.
This professor was great and organized. She's very clear about what she expects from you. Grades are always in ASAP so you constantly know your grade. Homework is a piece of cake. The tests are a little overwhelming and really require you to know your stuff. It is a true representation of your knowledge.
Tough class. She goes through her lecture quite fast. A lot of studying. Study guide are provided but very long. I did the study guide for every exam, got over 100% on the homeworks, but only did decent on the exams. Lab final and lecture final was the hardest so make sure you do well on the other 3 exams. Overall, hard class.
This is one of my most challenging biology classes. Her lectures are VERY clear. She gives a study guide so follow it! There is homework, my advice, start them early! Don't wait until the night before they are due. You will get stuck and you will have to go to office hours if you want to do well. That being said, GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP!!!
Not a nice Instructor! Her teaching style sucks! The way she words the questions on her tests is so confusing. Even if you study for hours it's hard to do well in her class. Snotty attitude because she has a "PHD", like come on now your teaching at a community college. She should go teach at UC & NOT at OCC! I'm a Bio major and I dislike her!
It's tough. Do the HW thoroughly. Think how things would be effected if X wasn't there, etc. That's helpful for the exams. Know and UNDERSTAND the slides completely and you'll do okay. An old edition of the book is ok to use. Draw out everything over and over and use the notes like flash cards for studying. MP is only worth it if you do all of it.
I'm stumped as to how anyone could think she's hard... seriously, show up to class, fill in the blanks on the notes she provides, review them a few hours before the test, and you will get an A. Homeworks can take a couple hours, but you have 2-3 weeks for each one, and every one of them comes with extra credit. A grade 100% is easily doable.
3 exams, 1 final, & 10 homework packets. Professor Sogo's thorough in explaining the concepts that will be tested on the exam, so if you show up to class, read the notes, and ask clarifying questions, you'll do well in the class. Tip: start homework packets early so you can ask questions in office hours.
Farah, aka Lisa, is by far my favorite professor. She is so passionate about her work that it made me want to become a Bio major. The first two tests I almost got perfect scores (A's on both), then I missed 3 classes and got a B- on the third test and then I almost got a perfect score again on the Final. Moral, every lecture is essential to passing
professor Lisa is the sweetest person you could ever meet, she's kinda goofy, but she can totally pull it off. her lectures are very cozy and enjoyable. but what I love most is her feedback, she never turns down a question no matter how random or weird the question is, and she's very knowledgeable. it has definitely been a joy to be in her class!
Prof Sogo is the best teacher i've ever had. Im so happy I took her class and got to be refreshed in school by seeing a teacher who is engaging and interested in us genuinely learning the material.
She doesn't really tell you what's on the exams besides "everything on the 9 page study guide." She really babies you with her fill in notes. Am currently taking another bio class and I miss her fill in notes. You can't slack off if you want to do well on her tests. If you understand the material you should easily get an A-/B+ on the tests.
There's a reason she was awarded teacher of the year. She has a passion and clear understanding of biology and she makes sure her students begin to understand how important biology is. Her tests are everything you learn on the notes and you don't need the book if you print out her notes and do all the online homework. She has a funny sense of humor
Lectures are straightforward, Sogo is a good lecturer. Exams are very representative of what's in the notes. If you had the lecture notes in front of you, you would get 100% on every exam. So just memorize the lecture notes and understand them, the exams are not difficult, but you won't get A's on them without studying. Study and you'll do well.
This professor is so genuine and kind to every one of her students. She welcomes questions and answers them with a level of clarity I've never seen before. I always felt at ease in this class, and fully prepared for the tests that closely resembled her print-out notes. You will love her sense of humor and goofiness, and may find a love for science.
good professor. Not an easy class.
Her lectures are informative. Exams are reasonable. She gives extra credit opportunities through extra test questions. There is a lot of online hw. Don't wait until the last day to do it. If you read the textbook, study her lecture slides, and do the online hw well, you will definitely get an A.
ok choice for a teacher who can make class legitimately interesting
Worst professor ever taken, I have my masters and I was taking this class as a refresher. I would avoid at all cost. She doesn't give students a chance to do well and grades harshly on every single thing. You miss one word and she'll mark you off then explain why she's write. She doesn't make any sense
Asks convoluted test questions just to make sure no one gets 100 on the tests. Material isn't hard but she tries to trick you and then won't listen to a word you say about it because she's always right. Tip: If you want a high grade memorize every single minute detail. (She is still easier than bialecki. She's the better of the mediocre teachers)
I must say I clicked with this Professor. You can clearly tell she is passionate about the subject. For my class, it was as difficult as you should expect for Bio180. The online homework is mandatory but very helpful. She is well organized and very knowledgeable, answers all questions respectfully and thoroughly. Good class for visual learners.
interesting professor, not a tough class. Exams are based on lecture note 98% and 2% is from online homework. Understand all the words and pictures from the lecture note, you will get an easy A.
Sogo's class is fairly easy. The test reflects exam reviews given to you, but if you want to ace the test, make sure to study the notes in depth. I'll say that going to class isn't mandatory, but make sure to get the notes from someone else.
She is an awesome professor but you need to work hard for your grade. There is a lot of information and if you want to get an A on the tests, you must know every single slide of the notes. You basically need to memorize the lectures. The homework is long but there is only 4 assignments & you get extra credit for doing it on time!
Do not have to learn anything . Just attend lectures and she will tell you exactly what you will see on the test . I did not learn anything from here and I still have gotten a high A . take her if you wanna an Easy A and don't take her if you wanna learn .
She is a great professor and an overall nice person. However, the subject of cellular/molecular biology is extremely dense and tough to learn. The homework is much harder than the tests, but the tests are still hard. Don't believe anyone when they say the class is easy (unless they already took bio). Easy B but a hard A
The lectures are so well structured and she holds your hand through the whole class. It might seem childish to some but truly if you just go to class you will get a passing grade, even if you dont do anything else.
I took Doctor Sogo both Biol 180 and Biol 283. She is an amazing lecturer. In biol 283, she gave a lot of extra credit on her test; around 164/150. 10-11 hw assignments, she only grades 2 problems in EACH assignment
I took Dr. Sogo for both BIO 180 and Genetics. BIO 180 is a cakewalk compared to Genetics. She can definitely be condescending when you ask for clarification on something. Genetics is a tough course but as long as you know the powerpoint lectures in and out and also the problem sets, you will do fine.
This class is very challenging. So it takes a really good professor to get the material across to all students. Her final is super hard and her lab requires a lot of outside work and printing in color that is super unneeded. I do not reccommend anyone take this class with her. Her exams are not like the study guide unless you memorize everything.
Took points off of my daily worksheets for using the restroom. She thought i was trying to skip. Her course assignment even came in the restroom one day to find me because she didnt want sogo to mark me down again. She still did. Course material is good but very irrational to not let me use the restroom in a college class that i paid for.
I agree with the other reviews that say that she is very nitpicky. She assumes that I am not trying and is very condescending when I ask questions. That does nothing to help me improve and get a better grade. Avoid at all costs :/
Sogos lectures are easy to understand but once you get to the test it is not like the notes or study guide. Lots of trick questions on exams. Exams cover lots of material but the actual questions are very specific and not on every section. She does offer extra credit on homework and tests which is somewhat helpful.
Professor Sogo, really loves what she does. She is one of those bio professors that gets super excited when she gets to talk about material. Even in a big lecture hall she still manages to keep things interesting, even though I was in the back of the class. A LOT of notes, online HW, 4 tests and a final. Shes super energetic; good professor.
Passionate during lectures which made it fun to listen. In class worksheets (points for participating not being correct), four online homework assignments, four tests. Note taking is important for this class but she makes it very easy in lectures, even after the switch to online because of COVID.
Didn't use textbook much but the times I did look it was very helpful (oops). Her lectures could feel really long because there's so much info. Posted slides online, that was very helpful. As long as you get the notes down in class and do the HW and study those, you should do fine on the tests. Take the time to memorize concepts!! Great class.
Sogo is a nice, always willing to help but her explanations are so unclear and then she gets frustrated because everyone is asking the same question because it was worded so poorly. You will spend hours on HW for almost no points. Exams are hard AF and the material must be known front and back. 3 exams, 1 cumulative final, take someone else TBH
Shes a GREAT person but that does not make her a GREAT teacher. Her study guides were long and frankly, nothing on it was really on the test. The test is based on a lot of application questions instead of being straight forward AND they're tricky. You really have to know in detail of certain things and she literally tells you to know everythang
She is a very kind and nice person, always willing to help and explain questions. Even during lecture time, she wants to make sure if there are any questions on the lecture material. But be ready to study for the class; you may not pass if you do not pay attention to class. If you want to learn things and do work, then you may consider her class.
To the students who say that she is easy it's because her teaching style caters to those who learn that way. She talks very fast during lecture and does not allow for many questions. Exams are worded poorly, primarily application questions and worth majority of your grade. HW is time consuming and extra credit doesn't account for much.
Dr. Sogo's class is NOT easy- it's made to push you. I dedicated so much time into her class to scrape out an A, but I think it was worth it. I know the material from front to back and she gives positive feedback to students who work hard. Take this class is you want to learn something- you will have to push yourself, but it's definitely worth it.
Grade is based almost entirely on the exams. Homework is worth almost nothing. Lectures were easy to understand but the exams were pretty rough and the class average was always pretty low & lots of people dropped. She was unreasonable when it came to certain things and was EXTREMELY paranoid about cheating. She's nice but very strict.
she’s doing tm. her exams she makes us turn our camera on, show our id and the room, once u answer a question on the test u can’t go back to change it like what lmao. don’t take her please.
Grade is based on a few tests, the homework gives a little boost. I dropped because I couldn't concentrate on the online lectures and I changed my major, but also 'cause you really have to work for your grade. Tip is to use active recall when doing the test study guides--really helped some friends. Really makes you question what you want to pursue.
dropped this class after the first test. I took it online and she made me want to pull my own hair out. I quite literally never experienced a teacher who would give out a study guide just to make the test nothing like it. She reported me for cheating which never happened even when I was crying pleading my case didnt matter. take bio elsewhere.
