The best I ever have
Pros: - All of the example future chapter problems and assignments are already posted cons: - Can't really explain the concepts very well, he just reads it off of the slides. The extra help wasn't that helpful as well. - Doesn't communicate with students at all ( no announcements etc. ) Overall, just a bad prof. (P.S. Memorize the book )
Posts lectures online and sends emails to keep students informed. If you follow instructions and use tools he gives (exercises for practice, office hours, lab help from TAs), you should do really well. He expects class participation and will repeat important things loudly to make sure that anyone who is not paying attention hears it/understands.
The worst prof I have ever seen. Can't explain and no-one can follow him. His lecture is very boring
Fares is one of the best profs I've ever had at Carleton. He teaches the material effectively. You will ace this course with him if you attend the lectures. He will stay late to help us. I highly recommend him to anyone taking stats.
Such a great professor. Actually cares about his students. One of my favorites at Carleton! He makes stat fun and encourages you to aim for A+ and is funny when hes off-topic. He knows the materials very well. You will get A+ if you attend the lectures.
Fares is an amazing professor! he cares about his students. His lectures are fantastic and definitely worth going to - both from an academic and entertainment perspective. He repeats the materials so many times in different and same way so students can understand it. I recommend his class
he is the best
Did a terrible job explaining the material in lecture. Lectures are extremely boring. Did not do practice problems during lectures which would have made the course easier. The midterm he wrote was the hardest of all the STATS classes and terribly made. Take another prof if you can.
recommend him he is awesome and lectures are important.
Such a great prof! He really does his best to make sure everyone understands. Post all nice details lectures. Gives lots example, All his example is from real life problem. Explain all details. Help you in the tests. Cares how students perform. Take any class with him! I totally disagree with the previous comment, he loves teaching
He's a great teacher. I did not have him but O came to his class because he could teach so well. Honestly need to go to lectures or you wont pass . The course is so hard because of probability. Just grind it out and your good
He is the best, I totally recommend him.
My biggest problem with professor Said is his management of the class. Somewhere deep inside him he can teach well. Yet, he was always disorganized, and would get behind in the course right from the get go. I don't think he's awful professor like some of these reviews are saying. However, the amount of praise he is getting is shocking as well
He's a great teacher. Game to his class because he could teach so well. Honestly need to go to lectures or you wont pass . Just grind it out and your good
Honestly an ok prof, knows the material well but it can be hard for him to explain it to the class. Hard to understand sometimes and can be pretty defensive and rude to the class when questioned or criticized, but he has brought in chocolate for the whole class on multiple occasions so 10/10 there.
The best professor I have ever had in my life, he is very amazing, I love him so much, I highly recommend him for all stat courses
Hands down, the best stats professor!
Took STAT2507 with him. This was not an easy course for me, but if you grind through the textbook problems you will be fine. It is important that you attend all lectures, since he gives tips on the assignments and even the midterm/final. It helped me to talk with the TA and the prof to help with understanding the material and with assignments too.
Very boring and hard to understand. If this wasn't grade 12 review I would have failed
As a person, a very nice kind gentleman. As an instructor for an elementary course, I didn't care for him. Assumes everyone knows the basics (not everyone is fresh out of high school) May need another technique for explaining materials as he was difficult to follow. If calculus is challenging for you get tutor after week one of the semester!
Extremely difficult to understand. Instead of explaining things in multiple ways, he just repeats the same thing over and over. Sometimes talks very fast. Makes you feel dumb for not understanding something. Calls out people for messing around on their laptops during class. Made me thankful for my high school math teachers LOL
I am not good at math but prof Said was very kind and helpful. lectures were posted on the website ahead of time, clear and easy to follow. I noticed some negative comments here; I don't understand why. He provided many resources and opportunities to learn, ask and get help in and out of class. Attend the lecture, prepare ahead of class & study
I have taken two courses with him so far and both were good. I'd take his classes again given the chance. He gives lots of ways to learn (practice problems, homework, resources, lecture notes posted, etc.) he is available during his office hours and also makes time if you can't see him then. overall great prof!
He is an awesome prof who is funny. Great lectures, easy to understand. To get an A+, redo the lecture problems, go to tutorials, try to do all the assignments on your own as much as possible . Before every test do the previous assignments and lecture problems. If you do this , you are gonna have a good time and hopefully by Gods grace get an A+...
The best stats prof i have had. Although the material is dry sometimes, he makes it more fun and bearable. He is clear and if you study like he says, you will do well. Attend the classes and tutorials, and you will be fine.
Best Math Prof!! I recommend him.
Had Fares as an instructor for Stats, he was amazing and helped aton!
A Very keen instructor. I took Elementary Calculus 2 With prof Said for Winter 2020. The course is not easy one but students need to follow his instructions. He cares about his students and teaches very important and advanced techniques that are not even in the books. I would like to study with him in the future shoud he teaches another course.
Fares Said was great professor i really liked the lectures they were easy to understand. the tests were made really easy if you study the lecture and books exercises questions you will get a good grade.
Fares is a pretty good professor for calculus and I am very satisfied of my grade. He is also hilarious, cares about students, and tries to make lectures engaging. He also gives candies to students on a few lectures. Teaching style is specific, uses examples, and answers students' questions.
Great Professor, during the COVID crisis he was extremely lenient with students. The exam was basically given to us as he gave us the literal exam test bank. Nice guy as well.
Worst class that I have taken. He is a nice guy and tries to make the lectures interesting but they are very boring. He is very messy with his slides and it is very difficult to follow along. You'd be better off teaching yourself the material with the textbook, but he does give good hints for the tests in his lectures. He calls students out too.
Fares Said is an amazing prof. He has an amazing teaching style by explaining every question thoroughly from his slides. If you go to his lectures, Fares would always give hints on what the quiz, test or even exam would be and he would give chocolates when he feels that people aren't paying attention, I definitely recommend taking him!
Very good Professor. Takes the time to explain things. Is always available outside of class time to help you understand the material. Lots of ways to learn the material (notes posted, homework problems) If you are not understanding the material, do the problems and take to him, so he can see where you are having problems.
Good Prof, knows his material and can explain it well. Fair to students, especially if he sees you are trying all the work problems.
Good lectures and consistent marking for a dry topic. Tests you on what he says is important. Accessible outside of class and will take the time to review material if you are having trouble understanding.
In an online setting, his lectures are incredibly hard to follow as 1. He does not have the cursor on the screen, so it's impossible to follow along to what he is explaining and 2. He rushes through the lectures by just reading the notes he was given, and even though it was a business math course, doesnt know any of it, called demand: domain always
He cares, has good lectures and his notes were great. He knew the material and overall was a great prof. Id recommend his classes.
Be ready to get called out in class for answers or if you're not paying attention. Overall it was an easy course and the textbook was more useful than his lectures which are hard to follow. Tests were fair. If you did calc in high school you're set.
I totally recommend him. One of the best stat professor I have, makes things easy. You can reach him anytime. Very nice lectures.
He'll ask for feedback then lose it when you give any, didn't clarify what we were allowed to use on the test so proctors all had different rules then blamed us for not knowing, did the bare minimum for online lectures.
Really cared about making sure I understood the material and met with me one on one via zoom a number of times. Linear algebra wasn't easy for me, but he made it more manageable. Lectures coupled with the notes were extremely helpful and he always mentioned what was important to know.
Not good at explaining material and talks down to you if you ask questions. His videos were so bad I had to watch another profs videos to understand anything in the course. I think he does the bare minimum to get a paycheck and cares more about proving he's smarter than you than actually helping you learn.
Had him for asynchronous 2507 and he literally just posted videos where he read off the slides in a bored tone. Didn't allow a group discord so it was more challenging to get help in the class. If you want to succeed just read the textbook and do the suggested exercises you wont get much from the prof.
My class was asynchronous and it was absolutely brutal. His recorded lectures were pointless and hard to understand, so I relied a lot on the textbook and YouTube videos. He also had no remorse for times when his poor wording of questions misguided students and the one time I asked a question he said this is easy, you should have no questions.
This professor is really caring and made himself accessible whenever I needed help. He gave students his personal phone number so we can reach him. The tests were a bit challenging but when I read through the examples and practice he gave they were very similar.
He is amazing! Lectures are posted online were clear and short, gives examples of every possible scenario after each concept. I didn't even need to open the textbook. He was really interactive and answered all questions.
I found this class average in difficulty. lectures were good. he used loads of examples bordering on too many sometimes. there was lots of practice and the best thing about him is that he is always willing to give one-on-one time to make sure you get the material. his notes were great and he posted loads of resources on the course website
Posts loads of resources on CuLearn, including class notes. His lectures were helpful since he always pointed out the important stuff you have to know. Always willing to help via zoom or email or phone. Liked that he was straightforward. Examples given in the lectures and practice problems really helped prepare for tests and the exam.
Despite my good grade, this class was an absolute grind, extremely content heavy, and the assignments were mercilessly graded. I worked my butt off to keep up. Doing the textbook problems is absolutely critical to doing well. I think Fares is a really nice guy, but I did not enjoy the class at all. The final exam was brutal. Good luck.
I do recommend him. His lectures are explained well and he uses lots of geometry to visualize vectors movement. He is very accommodating if its for a good reason. You need to watch the lecture, work the practice and tutorials in order to do well in this class, Test 1 was very easy and cover the class materials.
I never liked Linear Algebra until I took this class with Fares. He tries his best to help the students that are there to learn and attend his explaining lectures (office hours) he explain very well. I will definitely recommend him.
One word - AMAZING
It is Professor Fares first time teaching class and he is doing a great work and making the materials so simple. I recommend taking him when he teach this course again.
Best prof ever
Professor Said is one of the best professors for Statistics. He is very knowledgeable and he knows his stuff. He can be slow at times but only to ensure that students understand the concepts easily. His tests and assignments are fair and easy. His notes are precise and detailed. He is hilarious and kind. 10/10 recommend him.
Professor Fares is quite a faire. He balances theoretical with lots of good examples. If you go to the class you will understand the topics. The review session helped me to prepare for the final. I'm glad I took this course with him.
Great Professor explains everything well and is always willing to help his students at anytime, he is very approachable, this course won't be a source of stress for most people everything is explained well.
He really cares about us as students and wants us to do well. He covers lots of material but makes sure to point out the most important stuff so you can prepare for the tests/exam. I recommend him/his class.
MATH2007 F22. 40% Tests and 60% Final, with 5 tests. Later in the term it was changed to 60% Tests and 40% Final, and you could drop your lowest test. He teaches well and does his best to improve everyone's grades. His final review is basically the exam, with a few added things. Pretty lenient on grading and wants you to do your best.
Pretty good. It's the course content that's hard, not him that makes it hard. This isn't first year anymore. Homework so hard it made me cry for the first time in 2 years. Perseverance and patience is a must for that.
Very nice guy who provides a lot of material for students to succeed, tests are hard but are graded generously.
His lectures are great and his tests are quite reasonable(although he does have a weird tendency to fearmonger and make you think the test will be the hardest thing ever). In the last lecture of the course he told everyone all the exam questions(he didnt post it online so make sure ur there for that)
Overall a great professor with excellent notes, lectures are interesting and he gives info about the content of upcoming tests in class. He indeed exaggarates the difficulty of tests, they were fair and quite short. Final exam was easy but long, he marked them all the same day. Be sure to do all assigned textbook practices and you will do well.
Great class, Great proff.
Subject was hard but, the professor was caring and willing to help and elaborate on any questions, making the overall course easier. Fair exams.

The tests were very fair. Whoever designed the course included too many complex topics, but Fares recognized this and adjusted the questions to ensure everyone had a fighting chance. Work with Fares, and he will work with you!
Overall a good prof. Very personable but sometimes it is hard for him to explain a complicated concept so it takes a very long time to progress.
Fares does the best with what he is given. The course is extremely hard as there is a lot to learn in a short amount of time. Fares himself has criticized the course outline. Assignments and final were hard. However, he ended up marking the final out of 65 marks instead of 100. He truly cares about his students.
Fares is not a good instructor. His explanations are unclear and he is disorganized. I wish I had taken the course with the other professor their class average is way higher.
Really good professor who geniunly cares about his students. Quick to reply to emails, and he takes his time to explain things. He's very nice and considerate overall. The only downside is that sometimes he takes a lot of time explaining a topic which in turn makes us fall a bit behind. But I would take another class with him!
He gets mad if you don't answer his questions during lectures, but also barely anyone showed up. Not his fault. Funny guy.
Lecture slides were very poorly formatted and unhelpful. Unfortunately, he degrades students for not answering his questions, as well as yelling at student for asking questions. Super tough course given all of the notation is out of order/ disjointed.
Very hard material taught in the class, needs to post proper lectures and practice problems for midterm and exam prep.
The content is above the level we learn at this point in our degree. Almost no resources or practice problems are posted. Lecture notes are mostly incomplete and frankly useless. Midterm was held after the drop deadline. The final was insanely long and difficult. Make sure you pad your mark as much as possible so you can take the hit on the final.
Guy does all practice problems in class and explains if any questions. attend the lectures and you are good
W prof. Curved the course marks and was very nice about assignments, midterms, and exams.
Easy grader, very generous as the material taught is very difficult, Make sure you understand formula sheet.
This is the worst class I've ever taken. Fares is disorganized and gives unclear explanations. We did so poorly because of his horrible teaching that he had to heavily curve the grades. 12 weeks and I learned nothing from this guy. They need to hire somebody more experienced to teach this course.
Horrible prof, lectures are convoluted and incomprehensible. Skips over practice problems, uses vague language when solving problems, and fully skipped the last portion of material because he couldn't budget his time effectively. Tough midterm and near-impossible final, so much that it had to be curved to the heavens for the past 2 years. AVOID!!!
I did not attend class almost all semester. I passed because I barely managed to cram some of the material from this incredibly dense course into my little brain, and because my friends went and told me about some of the hints he dropped. I only got this B because the final grade was curved a full letter.
Attended every lecture, Dr. Fares Said cares, but the course is poorly designed. Slides are weak, key topics barely taught yet on the final (which he basically gave us) and still had to be massively curved. Some students got extra hints. Course needs serious revision in both content and teaching. Definitely attend all lectures and keep up.
Terrible lectures, final exam was tough + he was giving some students the answers during the final exam.
Prof. Fares is a supportive and engaging instructor with a great sense of humor. He truly cares about his students and makes the class enjoyable. If you stay committed and put in the effort, you'll succeed. He's approachable and creates a welcoming space for questions. Highly recommended!
