really laid back, understanding. sometimes its hard to understand him. always welcomes questions. highly recommend

best chem teacher ever so nice!!!
Good guy. One of the few science teachers that I've ever met that is funny. Also a pretty good teacher.
Really laid back guy. Easy to get along with and is funny. He always welcomes questions and wants the student to suceed. Really Recommended for chem Lab. I would take him every year if he taught more lab classes
Great for non-majors, took him for chem & society, welcomes lots of questions, but hard to understand at times (accent) -- but you get used to it and are able to understand by the second week.
Difficult to understand.
very hard to understand! have to get use to his thick accent. jokes around most of the time about how he is going to give you the answers to the test, waste of time! i swear he doesnt do plus/minus so if you had a B- he will drop you down to a C!
He's such a wonderful man! The best person to take for chem lab. I love this man!
He is the man! I took for him chem and society and it was awesome. SULFITE!!
Assad Rocks. I got an A, and I am a terrible student. Take this class.
Love him!!! Makes lab so great!
Let me warn you this class is not as eay as u think. I got an "A" on the first test so I didn't take it pass/fail. After getting a "B' and a "C" on the next two tests, I was a little worried. He is a chill teacher, but what he teaches u in class is never on the test and his final was hard as hell.
very funny and entertaining, go to class so you will be on favorites list which will help you in the end, also go to office hours so he knows you, tests are hard but if he likes you and knows you try hard he will basically give you a good grade, tests etc should have added to C and got B in class
This is by far the best general chem lab teacher at USD. I've heard horror stories coming out of other labs. Dr. Assad welcomes questions and is a funny man. He makes lab enjoyable. (as enjoyable as a lab can be)
The greatiest prof ever..a fresh air for science majors.Knows how to teach well without making your life hell, learned alot.Makes sure you understand and bends over backwards until you understand. Everyone needs to take him..he's the BEST at USD.Totally breaks "mean, untisocial, science prof" string.
easy teacher, but kinda screwed me for second semester. doesn't expect too much, and is very laidback
I am not a Chemistry fan. but Dr. Assad at least made me not hate class. If you are a non-major I really recommend him.
Awesome prof; be sure to participate in class!
he was my lab professor...and he was awesome..always helped out when you needed it, and he changed my grade from an 89 to a 90 just because i asked him if he could give me one more point bc i wanted an A....so very personable
my favorite prof at usd. this is a great class for non science majors!
He was a very nice teacher and when you needed help he was always there to help you even in practicals.
pretty simple class, he gives out hw every few days, and its a lot of problems, but he accepts late hw and he goes over some problems from the hw in class before turning it in. he also grades the hw depending on if you tried to do it and he will give a plus, check, or minus. i have never finished my hw and i always get a plus.
He is so awesome!!! I hate chemistry but he made it so much fun. He does everything he can to make sure you get a good grade. Definetly take him esp for lab I wouldn't take lab with anyone else!
do anything u can to get into this class. he is so fun and great!!!! he makes jokes and u always get out early. grades very easily!
Dr. Assad is always willign to help and at the end he curves grade which is real good. Just ask questtions when you need help he'll help for sure.
He is a hilarious teacher who really wants you to have fun (although it is difficult in a 4 hour lab). As far as grades, he emphasizes the process and your write-up quality more than your accuracy. Keep that in mind when it comes to practicals. He will help you out a bit with your grade in the end if you show dedicatio nand enthusiasm.
such a nice guy. First test is EASY, other 2 are very difficult. 2 very easy 3 page essays (basically free points). he is SO understanding that this is a NON MAJORS course and is very reasonable. sometimes moves a little too fast - but VERY willing during office hours
definately recommend taking assad's class. he is really funny and really wants you to learn the material. his personality makes class more interesting when he's talking about boring stuff
Very helpful and fair. Makes an unbearable lab fun and enjoyable. Cares more about procedure and work than write-up (but that's still important). Is kinda anal about sig-figs. Overall a great teacher.
Absolutely one of the best professors here at USD. Very helpful and his primary goal is to ensure that the students understand the material. Will not let students fall behind in his class.
We had a quiz scheduled for lab. Right when we were about to start he asked us if we wanted to take the quiz. We all said "no." He threw the test away and moved on with class.
Direct quote..."There are three different types of bonds. Lets see there are Covalent bonds, Ionic bonds,... James Bonds." I love this guy. He is easy and entertaining. Awesome lab teacher.
Assad is a great teacher. He is very entertaining in his lectures. I took chemistry and society, and it was pretty easy considering my lack of knowledge in the field. I definitly recommend taking this teacher. His tests are slightly hard, but if you study you will do fine.
Worst teacher I've ever had. I loved chemistry in high school but Assad killed that. His lectures are useless. He teaches you nothing. Your grade is solely dependent on you studying your text book. He is not helpful in anyway. Avoid having such an awful professor and take someone else.
dont take him if you arent really good at chemistry. hes really nice and youll goof around all year and he'll let you out early, but then he'll give you a ridiculously hard final after not teaching you anything and expect you to do it. learned nothing and had to be really self sufficient
If you're looking to fulfill GE requirements for Chem, this is the class to take.
BEST lab professor at USD! Take chem lab with Professor Assad. He is very helpful and wants every student to perform well. The class is one of the easier lab classes too.
I'm in the class now for GE. He's a nice guy, but definitely not the most helpful teacher I've ever had. There are enough homework/presentation/paper points to slightly offset low test scores, but they aren't enough to pad a bad grade. Much of the test material is not covered in class, so be sure to read the book. Not sure if I would recommend him.
Prof Assad is a cool teacher, he tries to make it funny and makes sure that if you don't understand you can always ask. He tries to make things pretty clear. Workload isn't too bad. Except you need to make sure you read the book and take notes.
Assad is hilarious i loved being in his class but do skill builders and learn how to do it
REALLY Nice guy, but hard class. He's hard to understand and my notes were pretty much useless. There are easy assignments that help the really low test scores but there not enough. Unless you like teaching yourself and closely reading comprehensive chapeters, I wouldn't recommend him...
Tests were so hard!! And totally unrelated to the lecture or the text really. I couldn't get how to study for the tests.
best for lab, but lecture sucks. i have to read the book to know anything, and the tests are so detailed. he passed out evaluations before our 3rd test, and that test was SO hard. try to avoid unless you like reading the textbook. [oh and text book is form 1996, so dont buy from bookstore or amazon]
OMG. Okay, Assad is nice and funny and has a good heart. But this class is absolutely horrible. Lectures are pointless. You have to memorize the textbook to do well on the tests. And three tests and the final make up 91% of your grade. It's hard!!!
such a funny guy. he has a cool accent however its a bit difficult to understand but u get used to it. very helpful in office hours and will guide u thru an entire skill builder if u really dont understand. nice and funny, i recommend for chem151Lab. A is very possible.
pretty great lab teacher. doesn't really care what goes on in the lab, and can be easily coaxed into giving answers to questions and into not giving you quizes. and amazingly by getting like 8/10 on the labs and 3/5 on quizes, i walked out with an A in the class
A very easy class if you have taken chemistry in high school. Very basic, and he paces the class based on overall understanding. A very happy, funny teacher who makes chemistry a lot less boring. Definitely recommend taking this class for core science and lab credit.
Easy, approchable and fun. Take him if you want to learn something and get a good grade too!
EXCELLENT TEACHER. MUST TAKE!
Assad has a good heart and is trying to help, but that class is ridiculously difficult. whatever he teaches is not on the tests, the tests are based on the book. its easy to get a B but hard to get a A. hes not very clear and doesnt really explain well. near the end ppl stop going to class so he takes attendance, so many sure you go to get points!
Assad means well and has a good sense of humor but it is very difficult to understand his accent. He is pretty scattered, so you will have to read the book to get a good grade in the class. Doesn't do A- or B+, only A or B. Be ready to read the book if you sign up for this class.
ASSAD WAS A GREAT TEACHER! He is definitely the best lab teacher for sure because he explains the labs really well, and always plays music when you are doing labs. He is so nice, and always there to help if you need him! I would definitely take his class again! He also has a great sense of humor so he makes lab fun!
Greatest teacher I've ever taken. By combining an amazing sense of humor with the friendliest professor on campus, I got the easiest A in my life. I cannot recommend him any more. Anyone that says this class is hard has a learning problem.
Professor Assad is great! Take him for lab if you can. He is great at explaining something if you need help and is very easy-going. He plays music during labs too which is nice. If you are prepared you will be able to make an A.
Assad makes a difficult subject doable. He has a unique sense of humor that makes this class as enjoyable as a chem class can be. His accent is occasionally a bit hard to understand, but he'll happily repeat it so you get the concept. Tests tend to cover more than the lecture, so reading the chapters in the book is a good idea. Great in office hrs.
expect to read the entire book for this class. the lectures are informative but the tests come straight from the book. He has an awesome sense of humor, enjoyed the class
Assad truly wants everyone to succeed and do well. If your grade ends up being on the borderline, he will help you out. His sense of humor and amiable demeanor makes the 4 hour lab go by a lot faster. He is the best lab professor I have had in the science department thus far.
Funny. Extremely helpful with Pre-Labs in office hours and wants all his students to do well! Take him.
Assad is precious. He will help you as much as you need and is the nicest guy! Great class for non-majors
Assad is the best! I wasn't excited about having to take Chem and Chem Lab as a nonscience major but he makes it interesting! He's super funny and helpful and the 3 tests and final aren't bad at all! He's also really helpful with labs and makes the material easy for nonscience people.
Best lab professor I have had so far. You show up and try and he will pass you-maybe even an A if you actually manage to do something right. He does give a little long of lectures before lab, but so far I haven't found a professor who doesn't. If you struggle in chemistry he is the PERFECT professor.
Professor Assad is a really chill guy, but can be confusing at times and the instructions we're given for lab aren't always clear. However, class time goes by fast and he is really nice! Would take again.
Assad is great! He is really funny, sometimes I don't understand his lectures but it's ok because his tests are really easy. As long as you do the work you should get full points. It doesn't matter on the homework if you get the answers correct. I'm glad he understands this class is for non chem majors so he goes easier on you.
LITERALLY THE BEST GUY EVER. I love Assad. He's a homie. Loved him for lab. Would recommend to anyone. Super chill. Helped me out a lot. Really funny guy.
Such a nice guy but as a non-science major he was so hard to learn from. He wasn't really able to dumb the material down from what he would teach to a general chemistry class. There were three midterms and a final as well as homework every week. Definitely tough if you aren't naturally adept at chemistry!
One of the best professors I've ever had in any science class and a delightful person. I'm very glad to have had him as a professor. The class consists of 3 multiple choice tests, a multiple choice final, 6 labs, and few homework assignments. Tests are reasonable. Be very detailed and diligent in lab reports.
Assad is a great teacher. This was my first lab class ever, it took a while to get adjusted but just devote yourself to the material and you should understand the material.
Funny guy. Wants you to understand and ask questions. Plays music during lab. Made the class very enjoyable.
Nice guy, but not a good lab professor. His thick accent makes it difficult to understand him and his instructions for labs are not very clear at all. Hard grader and unreadable handwriting. Expectations were unclear and always late to office hours. Quizzes were hard and he didn't give enough time for them. Funny guy though.
I love Professor Assad! He's such a nice transition to college if you have him as your first lab teacher. Beware though, he grades the easiest of all the lab professors, so if you're planning to take another lab, expect your grades to drop.
Since it was a lab, attendance was mandatory. Very funny guy, and is very willing to help students. Fairly easy grader on labs, but tougher when grading the quizzes. The online assignments were pretty difficult, but he helps bump up a lot of grades at the end of the semester. Compared to other professors for lab, he is one of the easier ones!
Assad is the funniest guy, he always made lab enjoyable by playing music and cracking jokes. He helps boots peoples grades and cares about all his students. The labs were difficult especially the practical. As well as the quizzes before lab. Study and try your best, four hour chem labs can never really be enjoyable.
One of the best lab classes I have ever had. Dr. Assad made it easy to learn and also be successful in his class. I would definitely recommend him to anyone taking a lab class.
This is a great course for someone unfamiliar with chemistry. Also, you only meet for lab EVERY OTHER WEEK as opposed to every week. Great course.
He is a perfect choice for those who only need gen chem. He is really funny but can be disorganized and confusing. Get to know him and ask questions, and even if you're struggling at the end of the semester he grades in your favor if you show improvement. He cares about his students and makes chemistry more enjoyable.
Definitely the best professor I've had at USD. He is a really fair grader and makes the class fun! Also very helpful if you ask questions. I couldn't say enough good things
He is an amazing lab professor. Always wants to help everyone understands and realizes that as a one credit class, it is not always at the top of your priorities. So he does everything he can to help you out in a tough lab thats low credit. Favorite part was his mix tapes. Made everything better. Great guy.
Dr. Assad is super funny and makes the 4 hour labs seem much shorter. He's a very fair grader and his quizzes aren't too difficult as long as you do the Skill Builder assignments. Also labs are every other week, which is great. I definitely would recommend Dr. Assad for chem labs!
Funny guy. Lenient grader. Clearly demonstrates lab techniques. Quizzes usually cover prelab material, but are somewhat difficult. Sometimes hard to understand.
Real funny guy with a relatively easy lab. Quizzes aren't too difficult and the practical was reasonable. He loves to joke around and plays music during lab. Would definitely take again but he is somewhat hard to understand.
Dr. Assad is my favorite chemistry professor. He genuinely wants his students to succeed and does a lot to help you throughout the lab if you need it. He makes labs enjoyable by playing music and they usually end early. He grades very easily, and it's not that hard to get an A in this class.
Dr. Assad is such a charismatic man! His labs are not difficult, he is a pretty easy grader if you put in some efforts! He goes over everything you need to know at the beginning of each lab, so pay attention and you shouldn't find the lab too hard. I would always get the calculations wrong at the end, but would still get 9/10 on the lab write up!
Dr. Assad is a great lab instructor! He makes his labs super fun and not too difficult. I learned a lot in his class and would love to take him again. He plays music during labs and grades very leniently. He cares a lot about his student's performance and understanding.
In no way did I deserve the grade I got in that lab. Dr. Assad is one of the easiest and kindest graders I have had in college so far. He plays music during the lab from his own personal playlist from the mid 00s which is fire. 151 lab is boring and procedural, and way more stressful than it has to be. Dr. Assad minimizes this through humor
I can't say enough good things about him. He genuinely wants every student to succeed, which is rare for a professor. He is incredibly knowledgable on the subject, but is great at simplifying things for us. He is truly excited about chemistry and puts a smile on all of our faces. He brings out a boombox during labs which makes everything better!
Dr. Assad is such a relief from intimidating science professors. He is so funny and friendly, and you can always contact him outside of class with fast responses. You do have to listen because he sometimes goes through the concept of the lab with false data which can be confusing. Assad is amazing!!
Dr. Assad is kind of hard to understand and he explains things kind of quickly and sometimes confusingly. If you zone out for just a moment you will be lost. He is very kind and funny, however.
Professor Assad is wonderful, and I am currently trying really hard to take him again! He's super fun and kind in lab and plays throwbacks which is so fun. Super forgiving if you make mistakes and understanding if you have questions of screw something up. Not super clear on due dates but tends to be pretty accessible outside of class.
He is super nice and funny. You can easily check answers for in-lab assignments with his TA to get a 100. His lab can be challenging, but he is always willing to help.
I am currently in Chem 112 by him. Very fun and eager to teach. Labs are a little unorganized, but take matters into your own hands and you'll be okay. Easy/manageable workload but requires some effort. He's not the best professor/teach I've had, but he is far from the worst. I recommend him.
Easy to get a hold of during office hours and always wiling to help. Lectures are also very easy to pay attention to, would take again!
Professor Assad is amazing! He is really nice and funny. He has the best playlist on earth. I would definitively take him again.
Love Dr. Assad. SO accommodating and helpful during lecture and lab (had him for both) and I've never learned more from a college course. You can tell he cares and wants his students to succeed.
Assad is actually the best chem lab prof!! He is super nice and really caring about his students. His quizzes are pretty rough, but otherwise his grading is super fair.
I love Dr. Assad!! He's super caring, funny, and passionate about teaching and chemistry! Made lab fun by playing music and cracking jokes. Super helpful when you had questions and went over post-lab! Gave clear feedback and honestly a great person! Don't hesitate to take his lab!
I love this dude. Since I was on the first day of the first grouping for lab, We sometimes went over topics in the lab before we got to them in our lectures. He explains things very well and is super supportive and understanding if your struggling with something. He's a very funny guy and I really recommend taking for a lab.
Hilarious, an easy explainer, helpful in office hours, and a real cool guy. His lectures are engaging and he makes labs fun by bringing his boombox. You can tell he cares about his students and cares even more about chemistry!
Amazing course to get your science exploration credit out of the way. Dr. Assad is awesome and very easy going when it comes to homework and exams. Helpful in office hours and in lab. Please consider taking him!
Extremely entertaining in lab, easy to follow his directions, and exams were identical to content taught in class. You can tell he cares about his students' well-being and doesn't want to confuse anyone. Best mixtape ever.
Hilarious. I look forward to listening to 2000s pop while doing my Chem lab. Very helpful and explains everything very well. Really helps make a long lab report just that much shorter.
LOVE HIMMM! He is so funny and so sweet, and although chemistry is hard he cares a lot and will always work around you. Quizzes aren't bad just make sure you study a little. Definitely go to the labs. Only complaint is he is a bit hard to understand because of an accent, but the love shows throughhhh. Love him take his class I want to TA for him.
Excellent lab professor. Makes lab fun and explained directions clearly. Super helpful in office hours when it came to assignments and preparations for quizzes. Definitely take!
Dr. Assad was great! He made labs easy and fast. My lab partner and I often finished 1-2 hours early. He is also very funny and plays music during labs. Definitely take Dr. Assad if you get the chance. My only complaint is that lab report expectations were not always clear and he is a slightly tough grader.
Professor Assad is an engaging and supportive instructor who makes chemistry lab enjoyable. He explains concepts clearly and is always available to help. Using resources like Unstuck study alongside the provided materials can make this class a breeze.
Assad makes chemistry super easy to understand, even for business majors like me. Labs are fun and we always end a few hours early! The tests are a little difficult if you don't prepare, but he allows a notecard which is helpful. He's a funny guy and you can tell he cares about his students and wants everyone to learn.
He is an amazing dude if you need to get a science credit take him. Attendance is only mandatory during you once a week 8-12 lab. Texts are not easy but not crazy hard either. During lecture he will go off on the craziest tangents for 30min then say don't worry you don't need to know this for the test lecture is more of a comedy skit then a class.
