Dr. Sarower does a great job at teaching M305G! She gives many class participation opportunities and has multiple office hours a week. Homework and learning modules are easy; she gives practice problems a week before the exam and is very clear about what is on the exam. No calculator is allowed on exams, but it is not necessary. Would take again!
M305G is an easy A if you put in the work! Dr. Sarower has helped me learn using different techniques and tricks, and usually, the exams are more straightforward than the homework. She and her TA offered a lot of office hours outside of class and gave practice problems for the exam. Make sure to use outside resources though. I would recommend her!!
Dr. Sarower so far has been pretty good at lectures. She breaks problems step by step so you grasp them easily. Her tests are pretty similar to problems she goes over in class however, there are times when harder problems appear on tests, but she gives a good path on what to know for your midterms. The class is test heavy 85% is weighted for tests.
She's nice and has good lectures! But she's one of those teachers who gives out 10-12 question (single part) exams that are 85% of the class. She likes to claim she always does partial credit, but she really doesn't. She responds slow, doesn't accommodate extenuating circumstances, and the extra credit is spotty.
Do not take this class if you have never seen calculus before. Lectures are extremely convoluted and Dr. Sarower does not take questions well. The only redeeming factor about this class was the discussions. They tested your knowledge of the material and prepared you for exams. Exams are 10-12 questions. Dr. Sarower is not a consistent grader.
The professor was the worst part about this class. She is incredibly rude and it's difficult to get a response out of her. When as a question, she is incredibly vague and has told us before to "not to ask her again". Easily the worst professor I have ever had.
This was the most unorganized class I have ever taken. The due dates for homework's/learning modules fluctuated and were not accurate to the syllabus. She was unapproachable and it was impossible to ask her questions because of the vague and demeaning response you would get. Her lectures were also often confusing and very unenthusiastic.
Her class was decent, She does suck at explaining things and you'll probably have to learn some concepts on your own. In my experience, the exams weren't that bad and the reviews were mediocre. Overall she's mediocre but not horrible. Study for exams and you'll be fine.
Dr. Sarower was overall very unapproachable and would demean students for asking questions or wanting clarification. She was a hard grader and the reviews for tests and quizzes were unlike the actual tests and quizzes. She is not impossible, but I would very much not recommend if you have another choice.
Dr. Sarower explains material using examples which is fine but if you want to understand the material fully, get ready to teach yourself. HW is given on Quest which is graded weirdly and usually doesn't reflect the material we're learning in class. The exams aren't graded fairly imo. The TA is super hard to reach by email so go to office hours.
Grades are made up of modules and homework on Quest, 4 midterms (15% of grade each), and the final (25%). You can skip lectures and discussions if you know calculus, but Dr. Sarower tells us what's tested during lectures, which won't be on the slides she posts. Most times she doesn't understand the questions asked and might criticize you instead.
She's pretty good if you know calculus, but she's terrible if you're trying to learn calculus. Lectures were difficult to follow. The tests were 85% of the final grade and each was 10-13 questions, including the final. A small mistake on a test can cost you a lot in this class. If you need to learn calculus, don't take her.
Overall liked the class and she was quite funny at times. Her notes were sometimes confusing and unorganized but if you went to class you could understand her train of thought. If you missed a class, it was confusing to go through her notes even though she posts all of them. The Quest HW sometimes got confusing but overall not bad.
This class is great if you don't want to learn calculus. She never goes into depth with concepts. There are barely any practice problems. The notes are very unorganized. She claims that making exam reviews are "too much work" and if any gives midterm reviews the week of the exam. This class does not prepare you for future calculus classes.
Dr. Farhana was a decent professor, but if I did not learn pre-calc well in high school, then this class could have been difficult. I found the test to be very easy, but they were nothing like the quest homework really. She is not the most approachable professor, and her note taking style was not my favorite. I could see how others would not take.
She was very good at teaching, but passive aggressive when asking questions. Her and her TA kind of hate answering questions. Other than that, she always gave accurate study guides to exams and your grade is based on exams, learning modules, and homework. Drops plenty of assignments.
professor wasn't able to fully explain complex concepts; better to ask questions to TAs; HW is optional and the only things graded are the weekly quizzes and exams; professor is lenient due to it being first couple of semesters teaching
Dr. Sarower was a very nice, but just mediocre professor. She makes class engaging and is pretty funny at some times, however, she is not able to explain hard concepts in an understandable way. Very convoluted at times and I personally have a very hard time in this class. Grading is fairly lenient though, no homework and quizzes every Wednesday.
Can be hard to follow if you don't show up to class. Posts notes + exam reviews. In disc. section, you will do quizzes as a class - helps with understanding. Helpful TA! Uses quest + no textbook. Attendance not "mandatory" but sometimes there was an in class question to be turned in. very nice professor :)
If you go to discussion you'll do well. She doesn't grade the hw, but it's great practice for the weekly quizzes (she picks the easiest ones or something similar from the hw). She is so funny, tests are easy and she curved slightly even when test averages were high. Her rating on here is not at all accurate of how goated she is.
Dr. Sarower was very understanding and she really does want her students to succeed. All her hw's are optional, but are very similar to tests and quizzes. She's not an amazing lecturer but TA's are very helpful. Tests are curved and all weekly discussion quizzes are very simple. Take her!
She a chiller. Optional HW. Dropped 1 test and 2 quizzes. Very compassionate and understanding of student needs. Notes are very helpful.
Sarower's redeeming teaching quality is that she is not malicious in grading. The class was an incredibly dumbed down version of other sections and I feel unprepared for future classes. The most aggravating part of this class was homework and review keys. One problem would maybe be done in a section and the rest would say "Do it" or "similar".
Mickey Mouse Diffeq and Farhana tries to make it easier. This may become an issue in keeping up with later classes. Not a lot of resources other than lecture notes. Prof is quite lazy, and she doesn't even give answers on her keys "do it", "similar", "follow class example". Prof doesn't really want to be here. Free A
Extremely generous grading, discussion sessions extremely helpful, and helps make Mickey Mouse DiffEq the least time consuming class it can possibly be with optional homeworks.
Personally, I liked her as a professor. She cared for her students during office hours and would check in. It was hard in the beginning and you have to put in a lot of work within the course, but she does drop a lot of assignments throughout the semester. If you can put in the work, this is a good course.
Lectures are confusing and you leave learning the problem and not the concept. Despite encouraging people to ask questions, she gets quite sassy. Discussion helped greatly, and she makes the quizzes/tests VERY easy compared to the HW. The HW keys are usually incomplete with things like "similar to class problem" or "do it."
Dr. Sarower is a pretty decent professor. Lectures are long and confusing (I skipped 85% of them), but I was able to teach myself 100% of the material from her notes which are neat and easy to understand. Homework is optional, but the tests and quizzes are exactly like the homework. Homework keys are often incomplete though.
Super easy class. Sarower's not the best lecturer, but her TAs are great at explaining hw in discussions. Weekly quizzes take < 5 min to do. One drop exam, but if you did well on all 3 exams, you could skip the final (wasn't on syllabus). Review her class notes the day before exams, and you'll do fine. You'd probably learn more w/ another prof imo.
Weekly quizzes in discussion. Attendance not required in class. She's nice but not sure if it was just because the class was easy content wise. But i heard from ppl who took her for M408C that she was very rude so do with that what you will. Homework not graded, grade is just from 3 midterms, final, and weekly quizzes. Lowest midterm gets dropped.
easy material but bad lectures. professor would skip problems she didn't know how to solve during lectures and had bad explanations. I learned more from ta discussion sessions.
Concepts could have been presented more clearly but overall she did a good job of teaching difficult topics. She's very understanding and entertaining, I actually enjoyed lectures. Tests are also pretty easy and one is dropped.
Professor Sarower provided very helpful lecture materials, homework, and discussion section work. This set students up to do well on exams.
She is very nice and friendly. Her lectures are fine, but the grading distributions for HW, quizzes, and exams are kind of weird.
Professor Sarower is wonderful! She explains difficult topic very well and she is always eager to assist. I did very well in her class. Her lectures are well-organized. Highly recommended!
Prof. Sarower is so sweet and wants you to succeed. I took her class last semester. She gave step by step work for each problem. She ensures you understand before moving on. She has office hours which help if you don't understand. There are weekly quizzes and homework which are not difficult at all. Def take her if you can.
Professor Sarower is the best math professor I have ever had! I am so thankful to her for such a delightful semester. I am truly very grateful for her lectures, her dedication for teaching this class. I have never been skilled in math; however, her lectures and teaching methods have helped me miraculously.
Really nice and sweet professor! Most of the semester is Calc BC review, with multivariable introduced in the final weeks. Attendance isn't required, and she posts helpful notes on Canvas. Lectures can be a bit dull, but quizzes and exams are straightforward, and she sometimes she provides formulas directly on them without having to memorize.
I want to thank Dr. Sarower for teaching this class! The way this course was formatted with the effectiveness of her teaching, I was able to learn more in this class than I have in any other courses at UT Austin. I was struggling at the beginning of the semester but she helped me during her office hours. I'm grateful! Highly recommended!
Just got my grade for this class! I'm so thankful to Professor Sarower for teaching this hard class in easy way! She is always accessible outside class and eager to help you. Highly recommended!
Her teaching methods were the most effective. I had learned some of this material before but still didn't fully understand. Having her made me see a drastic improvement in my understanding. This was the first time I actually enjoyed a math class. I am really glad that even if my grade wasn't what I wanted, I gained better understanding of calculus.
She was a good professor and posted all her notes online. Attendance was not mandatory and homework was optional/not graded but it really help to know it. The TA would always go over key problems in the homework so you could always work it out during discussion sections which was less than an hour. The exams were also pretty easy.
She is an excellent professor who genuinely cares about her students. She shares lecture notes on Canvas, making it easier to follow along. Her sense of humor makes the class enjoyable, and I always look forward to attending.
I really enjoyed Professor sarower's class. She was always available and willing to help with any questions during her office hours. She cares a lot about her students. Highly recommended.
The most helpful aspect was how Dr. Sarower explained things in simple, fundamental terms before building on them, rather than assuming we already knew the basics. She has a remarkable ability to break things down step by step.
What I appreciate about Prof. Sarower is how she always connect math problems to real life, making the concepts more meaningful. Highly recommended!
She is a kind and supportive professor who thoroughly covers everything outlined in her syllabus. You can expect homework and quizzes on these topics, and she will guide you on what to study for exams. Before each midterm, she provides plenty of practice problems, and I always appreciate her exam reviews.
Dr. Sarower surpassed my expectations. Her grading criteria are clear and the tests are very manageable if you keep up with the homework and exam review. Her lecture notes are excellent and shared before the class. She is responsive to emails, always willing to help, and truly invested in her students success. If you get chance, take her class!
I had never really thought about how systems of differential equations could be applied in real life. She gave us a few examples, and they actually made a lot of sense! The solutions even show you the system's stability. Pretty awesome—turns out we're learning math for a reason! Highly recommended!
I was really nervous about taking probability since it was my first time, but Dr. Sarower made it so much easier. If you have a solid foundation in calculus, this course is for you. She's also very generous and supportive. The weekly quizzes keep you on track. The exams are quite manageable if you follow her guidance.
Her lectures are really confusing and she is not the best at explaining concepts. However she makes the exams more easier than anything we practice in class which I was thankful for. There is no homework but there are weekly quizzes which are for the most part easy, she drops two. Overall the class is self study but not too difficult.
She provides clear explanations of complex topics during class, which greatly enhances understanding. Her exams are straightforward and fair, making them manageable. I have gained a substantial amount of knowledge from her course. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking both a strong learning experience and the opportunity to achieve good grade.
She gives you plenty of chances to do well and drops a lot of the lowest scores, which really helps. Participation does matter, but it actually keeps you on track and encourages you to study.
Professor Sarower is really nice. She uses examples in her lectures and they are really good. One discussion a week is a weekly quiz led by the TA. Tests are easy.
She is incredibly kind and genuinely wants her students to succeed. She always makes sure everyone understands the material before moving on to the next topic. Highly recommended!
She is super sweet and always encourages us to ask questions. I was pretty nervous at the beginning of the semester, but eventually I started asking more. It really helped me get the hang of things and boosted my grade. Highly recommended.
While some of my friends are struggling in other probability classes, I'm getting am A with Dr. Sarower. I believe the course structure plays a big role in this. The weekly quizzes help me stay on track with the material.
Sarower was an alright lecturer, but the TA: Jennifer was amazing and I ended up using the discussions as the lectures because she made everything so easy. The whole grade was based on tests and quizzes (no free HW and participations grade) but they were pretty easy.
Is a very test heavy class 2 midterms are 30% each, final is 20%, and weekly quizez are 20%. However the test are fairly easy with an average around a 85%. Flashcard allowed on final. I will say I found her lectures to be kinda boring, Jennifer the GOAT TA, explained concepts and gave help on weekly quizes a lot whenever I wasnt locked in in class.
She offers plenty of opportunities/extra credits to improve your grades and encourages class participation by creating a friendly and supportive environment. I really enjoy her class!
Dr. Sarower cares about every one of her students so much, and she will ensure you know the material well. She prepares you well for the tests. The tests are super easy. SHE IS THE BEST. TAKE HER.
Great prof! So easy! Plus I actually learned. Lectures were good. Grade is only from tests and weekly quizzes, but they are both very easy. Weekly HW are optional but helpful. TA Jennifer is soo good. Lectures and discussion not required but I only did about an hour per week of work/study outside if I went to both.
I took M408D with her and luckily got into her M427J. She is truly amazing, helpful and supportive. Tests are very easy. She takes time to explain real application of all the complex math we are learning. That makes the material meaningful and relevant.
Grades are based on 2 midterms, weekly discussion quizzes (2 dropped), and a final. Does examples in class but can get side tracked and it was hard to tell where she was going with her words and work sometimes. Overall this class is pretty simple any prof would work unless they're evil.
Great professor! She creates a friendly environment! 3 exams, exams were easy and weekly quizzes (2 drops). Quizzes helped me prepare for the tests. Reviews before the test were so helpful, tests are similar to the practice tests/problems. Highly recommended!
dr. sarower was a great professor. all homeworks + solutions were really accessible, quizzes and exams always exactly what she specified in class so as long as you showed up she provided you with more then enough information. our TA was absolutely and no doubt the best TA ive ever had, Willliam Han if you're reading this, you are my king.
Discussions really made the lecture content make more sense with practice and examples. Exams are not too difficult, weekly quizzes.
Dr. Sarower is awesome! She's caring to her students. She dropped 3 quizzes (syllabus says 2drops) and curved the final. Can't thank enough. William is also a great TA.
Prof Sarower shares class notes and homework solutions online, which are very helpful. While homework isn't graded, it supports quiz preparation well. Her exam reviews are very good. Tests are clear and fair, similar to reviews.
This professor is amazing! She actually cares about her students and teaches very well. Practice problems are very similar to actual exams. Generous grader! She is the sweetest.
She truly cares about her students! Dr. Sarower posts class notes, homework keys on Canvas which is very helpful! I really appreciate her efforts! Tests are easy, similar to practice problems!
easy quizzes, easy tests..don't fumble the midterms (final is calm)
Doesn't collect hw. Didn't go to any lectures only ds matter for weekly quiz on Wednesdays. Got very lucky TA was amazing and taught better than the professor but she did post good notes. Doesn't use textbook or instapoll. You will be fine on tests if you do hws so do them for sure. Had her two years now and she is generous with missing quizzes.
I love Dr. Sarrower so much! She asks that you show up to lectures, and if you do you are guaranteed a good grade. Quizzes every week (with 3 drops) on one of the discussion days. HW is optional. Exams (one drop) are exactly like reviews and past HW. She let us have a cheat sheet for the final (non-optional).
To be honest I attended like two lectures. There are announced weekly quizzes but you can lowk only show up for those. The content is super easy if you already took stats. The lectures were frankly kind of uninteresting and slow, a lot of rehashing. The tests are very easy and not that much harder than the HW.
Dr. Sarower created organized notes and study slides that helped students stay on track, which was very beneficial. Practice problems were super helpful. She is a very approachable professor!
I don't understand why she gets such poor reviews. For her linear algebra class, all you need to do is pay attention during lectures and review the assignments once before the exam. Her assignments aren't graded, so you're guaranteed to get an A.
Teaches a little slow, but she explains all the concepts well and the work she assigns is extremely easy compared to the stuff I'm seeing from other professors in the same course. Her tests are EXTREMELY easy. I think our class average was like a 94 or above on both midterms and the final.
She doesn't always communicate her points effectively, but she does try. She shows plenty of examples and encourages participation throughout lectures. I like my TA a lot and his discussion sessions are really important for comprehension. Tests are very straightforward and designed to help, not harm. Weekly quizzes are the same. No homework.
She is the best professor, cares about her students. Gives review class before each exam which is helpful. To get an A just do the practice test and practice the suggested problems from textbook. Just pay attention to the class and it's a guaranteed A.
She is an absolute sweetheart, always bringing positive energy to every lecture. She prepares you well for the next math class and makes you feel approachable. Her tests are manageable. She is a generous and understanding grader. I highly recommend Dr. Sarower.
She's Great. She is a very caring and hard-working professor. She tries to help all of her students as much as possible and grading is very lenient. Definitely recommend
Overall her class was pretty great. She can take a while to get through some topics, but she adjusts her exams to account for it and her tests are usually pretty easy. She's very sweet, would definitely take her class again.
Dr Sarower cares a lot about her students and is a very fun/funny lecturer. Classwork is easy enough if you pay attention in lecture. Teaches material quite efficiently but can get behind on semester schedule. Overall her class was really good and I recommend to anyone taking this course, she's one of the best.
She teaches at a very slow pace, and gives only about half an hours worth of homework every week. If you did ok in Calculus BC, all the quizzes and tests will be a breeze. Just make sure you look out for any new material.
She truly goes the extra mile to help students. Her office hours didn't work with my schedule, so she opened an additional hour just for me. Last semester I had bad experience with another 408D professor that led me to Q drop. But she made me love math again. She is the best, so sweet and genuinely caring towards her students.
Decent professor. She cares about her students. Definitely take her!!
Dr. Sarower was an amazing teacher and easy to follow. I missed about 10 percent of the lectures, but her notes make it really easy to learn, especially if you have taken Calculus BC in high school. Take her if you want to both learn and have a chill experience.
Dr Sarower clearly communicated what topics would be included in weekly quizzes and exams. Very caring and wants her students to succeed. She explains concept very clearly and posts her notes online. She provided lots of practice in and outside of the classroom. She gave a lot of resources on canvas and provided the formulas during the test.
The absolute best prof I've had freshman year. Tests aren't graded very harshly and she's super kind. Love her.
Her class notes were useful, and tests were short and pretty easy. Mostly Calculus BC content except for about the last month, which is multivariable.
She is a wonderful professor who clearly cares about her students. Attendance isn't mandatory, but its worth going to because she reviews topics for quizzes/exams before each lecture. If you do the quest homework practice problems along with the worksheets she gives you, you should be pretty set for the class!
She's super kind and loves her students. Her exams are super easy, and so are the quizzes. Overall, the class is super manageable, and she's super great + attendance is optional.
Her lectures are a little slow and difficult to follow but she is sure to explain the theory behind the formulas instead of just stating them. Her grading is easy and her exams are very fair overall. Homework is difficult at times but midterms and final are way easier. Really easy to get an A.
Very easy exams and was very nice. Lectures were a little boring but attendance is optional and you can study outside of class easily.
Dr. Sarower is very nice, and she cares about her students, but her lectures are hard to follow, and her teaching style is too formulaic: she relies on memorization over conceptual understanding. This class was extremely easy, but I don't feel that I learned much from her. She follows exactly from the textbook, so you can read that and be fine.
Such a nice professor! Would highly recommend taking, I learned so much from how she structured the course!!
Dr. Sarower is super nice and cares about her students. She lectures very slowly and can be a bit boring but her quizzes and tests are exactly what she teaches in class and she makes slides available online too after each lecture (attendance optional!). Super chill class, would recommend!
Her lectures were super slow and didn't contribute at all to my learning, BUT she posts her annotated slide notes, and by the last month I wasn't going to class, and just did the notes outside of class before quizzes and exams. Her exams are extremely fair! Don't be scared by the quest HWs because her tests are probably 50% easier than the hw
Dr. Sarower is an AMAZING professor and you can tell she really cares about the success of her students. She's very kind, caring, and funny. Quizzes are v similar to Quest HW if not easier, and she gives lots of resources to make sure you succeed on the exams. Just make sure to do your HW and study regularly.
She was a decent lecturer, but there was not enough emphasis on conceptual understanding. However, the section TA was great in that regard. In all honestly, I gained more understanding from self-studying the slide shows and textbook than her lectures.
She honestly isn't the best teacher and complicates teaching some subjects, but she is really nice and provides enough material to prepare for exams. I just did the practice tests on Quest before every exam and did fine. Attending lecture isn't required either which was nice. If you did well in Calc BC in high school this will be easy for you.
One of the best M408D professors, excellent at teaching concepts over memorizing formulas. She provided all formulas we need for the test. If you don't attend lectures, it may seem like she goes slow since the completed notes take a few days to be uploaded. I remember she completed her syllabus on time. She is an amazing and caring professor.
She tries her best to lecture well, but sometimes it doesn't work out. I stopped attending classes after the first midterm and did fine throughout. She makes the tests extremely easy on purpose. She hands out an attendance sheet in the middle of the semester, but it doesn't count toward your grade. Your final (15%) replaces your lowest midterm.
great professor! complete the weekly hw and study for the weekly quiz, and you'll be fine for the midterms and final exam. she was very sweet & caring
Dr. Sarower is very sweet and cares a lot about her students. Her lectures are good to learn new content, but if you already know a concept from Calc BC they can get dull. Her exams are quite easy. She gives out a lot of very comprehensive practice material to prepare. The homework is very helpful for learning new content and revising BC knowledge.
She isn't the most interesting person, so it was hard for me to pay attention in class. That being said, she is super sweet and makes the class really easy. Just a quest homework and quiz every week, and 3 midterms. I went to class (not mandatory) but never paid attention and got an A+. She is very clear what's is on the exam, so it's pretty easy.
