a lot of reading, 50 pages each time
Very nice but grades essays every hard. Too much reading. Very tedious.
very difficult material however when he would lecture he can be one of the funnv

Class like a philosophy class--made it difficult for me. Tough readings.
Too much reading. 50 pages a night. Quizzes on readings, but funny and helpful

Knows Arafat personally. Great Professor!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He is very knowledgeable on both subjects. The classes are challenges but well worth it.
He can really grasp your attention. You will learn a lot!! He is very fun in that respect.
nice and interesting but hard grader. LOTS of reading and must always keep up with it or you will be behind. take it if you are interested in the topic, but not for an easy A.
inconsistant, very opinionated, non friendly, get out of class now, before you encounter wrath!
Dr. Abdel-Nour is a great guy full of knowledge, experience, etc. but he's not exactly easy in terms of getting an A like one of the previous comments says. He's an easy B, but not an A. Abdel-Nour is a bit opinionated too, so be prepared for that.
his a very cool guy, very proper. His really smart, and he come of intimadating, but he really isn't. Stay caught up with reading, it's your whole grade. Not an easy A, but B is realistic. Hard work required for class
Dr. Abdel-Nour is a wonderful professor. You cannot afford to slack off in his class, or you will surely fail. He is very apporoachable and will help you with anything he can. Tons of reading and stressful tests. He was great though!
I loved this class. It was hard, you can't skip out on class but you'll learn a lot. He is well versed in the subject.
It's worth doing the Islamic & Arabic Studies minor so that you can take classes with him and Osman. They are the best teachers on campus!
Amazingly Brilliant his published work is cutting edge stuff paving the way for future polisci students... truly brilliant...
Very intelligent, probably one of the smartest in the Poli-Sci department and extremely knowledgable about the Middle East. The class is interesting, but he often goes into way too much detail and expects you to know an unrealistic amount of historic info
He is a very knowledgable professor, his class is really hard though. And the only way he lets you get a better grade on a corrected essay, is to do the whole thing over again. Learned a lot, but its the last class I will be taking with him

Beware! get the hell out of this class before you enter hell. This professor is very opinionated and you will basically be wrong everytime you speak in his class, very discouraging on class participation and you better read or else you'll die!
A great class to take. His class is difficult and he does demand a great deal from his students, but only so they will achieve their greatest potential!!
very cool, beautiful accent:)
Don't take this class if you're protecting a high GPA. Also, don't take 2 of his classes at once. Assigns an insane amount of reading (120 pgs/wk). Don't fall behind! Seems balanced at first, but is actually a shameless Arab apologist. Grade: pop quizes, 1 paper (8-10 pgs) & 2 exams (ID+essay).
I think that this class is not that bad. Yes, you do need to work and there is a lot of reading assigned but what do you expect, your in college. He is THE most balanced professor on this campus, sure everyone has their bias, but he does not let that stop him from presenting the other side.
If you can handle Farid Abdel Nour as good teacher, you better study and read very, very good. Because if you can't, then you better make your move because the exams are blue books and really hard. SO get ready, cause here HE COMES!
The best prof at SDSU, no question. His class is tough but worth every minute. Tons of reading. Make this class your priority for a semester. Pad it with easier courses and you'll do great. Just READ, READ, READ! Go to extra credit lectures too. Even if they don't count. You will learn so much.
Great professor, one of my favorites at SDSU. Tons of reading but you learn a lot. Essay tests, pop quizzes and a 8-10 page paper. But if you're a slacker looking for an easy A, do not take this professor.
Great instructor in theory of politics. If you come into this class looking for an easy B you may go away with C.
Great class but *tough*! I don't know how I could have worked any harder and I got a B+. But it was worth it. This guy is so smart & an amazing teacher - my capacity for thinking increased in his class. Take his class before Oxford hires him & he leaves SDSU forever...
Crayzzzzzzy Man
Be prepared to read your#^& off. Learned why the MidEast is the way it is. The prof. is very knowledgeable and intimidating (****cat. (2)test(big bluebook)the first one could had been two tests, one 8-10 pg essay, long nights trying to figure out who said what. Be prepared to read your *%$ off.
this class was interesting, but this professor just sucks. whats worse he is the only one for this class. i saw some other comment on how he was a balanced professor and i would have to highly disagree. besides the crazy amount of reading, he doesnt really lecture after the midterm. avoid if you can
Dr. Abdel-Nour is the most fascinating teacher I have ever taken at SDSU. He distills some very detailed and far-ranging ideas into a cohesive and intellectual program. This class made sense out of the last 200 years, never mind it being focused on the Middle East. Go to class every day!
This class is difficult, but rewarding. You will learn a great deal if your not afraid to open a book. Do the reading, go to class and take time on your essays and you should do fine. Don't be intimidated by the amount of reading, it is possible.
The class is rewarding if you pay attention and keep up. He is a good professor-real knowledgeable. Keep up with the reading and be prepared to write essays with good depth. If you want to get on his good side, participate. Good luck 'cause you'll need it.
Most can argee that his classes are challenging, but at the end very rewarding. I am a slow reader, but I managed. You will have to go to class and keep up with your readings, then you'll do well. No teacher could teach this subject combletely unbiased, but I think readings are balanced.
He is opinionated and the blue book exams are your enemy.
He's teaches very good, but I would only suggest to take him only if you want to press your luck on him b/c he wants you to write a lot when it comes to blue book exams.

He is very hard but also one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and organized and he is always willing to help if you don't get something. But- tons of reading and tests are brutal. Worth it though- you actually learn in his classes
Very good teacher, and funny too. This is not an easy class, very hard reading. His exams are all essays and he expects u to write a lot. Don't take if looking for an easy A. I worked extremely hard and only got a C in the class. Good luck!!!
He is a very knowledgeable proffessor who loves what he does. Farid expects a lot from his students however. His exams are all written essays, he is a fair grader but you need to study hard and long thou-- Be prepared to READ A LOT!!
Real passion for teaching. Was dreading the theory field but he made it a lot easier for me to understand because he really knew his stuff. If you do the reading and study hard you can get a good grade.
worked soooooooooooo hard got a B+. I wanted an "A" but I couldn't crack it. But the class was well worth it. He is so smart and demanding I learned a lot. Perfect speaker, perfectly organized, extremely interesting and thought provoking.
READING IS A MUST MUST MUST!! That's the only way how you will pass his Politics of the Middle East class. He is REALLY HARD, but if youkeep up with the readings & take notes, you will pass. If you are a minor in POLITICAL SCIENCE, you will have a choice b/c 45% of your grade is the final which will be crucial & BRUTAL.
Loved his class. Yes it's a lot of work, but well worth it!!!
Great teacher, hard but very far. Great guy to get to know. Very interesting really has a passion for teaching.

Farid is very organized and very very into the subject in fact he will know if you are trying to BS it. He is EXTREMELY DEMANDING!!! His tests are essay and worth most of your grade. He also gives crazy POP quizes if he thinks no one read, oh ya and LOTS of reading. You will not get a B if you do not read, if you just go to class you may get a C
got to attend class becuase of the pop quizzes, and have to read and study hard for the tests, but i rarely get so much out of a class. keeps your interest and very relavent subject matter
This was a hard class, but worth it. He's great, interesting, and smart!
NONE except just papers & an in-class writing assignment, so just do the readings w/o stress.
He's so into the subject. All lectures are interesting. The reading is kinda crazy though. Just keep up with the reading & you'll do fine. The man's not hot, but he's got gorgeous eyes and the coolest accent.
YES He's HARD but if you keep reading, then you will pass his class.
This is a relatively difficult course, but aren't all college courses supposed to be this way? Take this class if you're actually interested in getting something out of your college education. Ignore anyone who says otherwise. Believe you me, they're either lazy or a typical, brain dead State student.
I loved this class. The readings were interesting and Farid is awesome. If you're looking for an easy class you can skip this one--if you're looking for the best at SDSU, you found it.
Reading intensive extremely dificult class but very interesting and you get a great understanding of the material. You cant understand anything without understanding everything. The pop quizzes suck, go to class or fail
If you want an easy 'A', professor Abdel Nour's not for you. I think that Dr. Abdel Nour is very intelligent & teaches the course very well. His extensive knowledge in the field is amazing. The tests are difficult, but they are not hard just to be hard & puts in a lot of time in presenting the information, & he wants you to learn.
This class was easy, but it was not a piece of cake. I love writing papers but I still got a B for that b/c I worked so hard & read so far. However, it just didn't even matter now!
Farid is not an easy teacher. However, he is probably one of the best teachers I have had at SDSU. He's there to help, and if you put in the necessary time, you will do well. There is a reading quiz almost every class period! I highly recommend this class.
The best professor ever. Very smart and articulate. He makes you think out of the box.You learn a lot in this class, which was not very easy. I studied very hard to get my A (English is my second language). Don't leave SDSU without getting to know professor Farid.
Hardest class I have ever taken!! If you dont read you wont pass the quizes in class, hard even if you did read. His tests are ok if you go to lecture. You will take a lot from this class, recommend if you dont care about getting a C or D.
Abdel-Nour is the most demanding professor I have ever studied with ... but he is also one of the most brilliant. It is essential to do the reading. If not, you will score very badly. I did all the reading and only pulled a B+. My only complaint regards his reading quizzes ... they count for 15% of your grade. Too much in my opinion.
Extremely difficult & challenging. The only professor at SDSU whose class I never skipped once, and that's saying a lot. You will learn so much, but do the readings. Lots of pop quizzes. Good teacher, tough A. I put in more effort than ever before and only pulled off a B+. Good class. Go talk to him in office hours before tests, he helps a lot.
NONE, but I thought he could be GOOD & he was, but he was straight forward like Jonathan Graubart & many others & there can't be anything else.
Intellectual without being intimidating (ok, sometimes intimidating). Challenges you and makes you think about your perspectives.
the most engaging and accademically challenging course I have taken. Go to every class because the one you miss will be a quiz. Know every detail for the tests, he loves dates and names but only if you get them right. Interesting guy, go to office hours and he helps a lot. Also just an interesting person.
Very challenging class, but also rewarding. Lots of dense reading, but class discussion was great. Pop quizzes, midterm, final, short paper, and long paper. He definitely knows his stuff and tries to present all sides of an argument (although his true feelings are pretty obvious...)
This class was so challenging, the reading was the hardest. I really had to push myself in this class and ended up with a B+ don't know how i did it. Go to his office hours, he seems kind of mean the first day of class but actually really nice. ALSO DO THE READING IT IS A MUST!!!!or u won't be able to follow. Also make sure you study groups, helps.
had to take class for pol sci requirement, didn't know what to expect. difficult readings (and a lot of them) but professor makes everything clear in class. tests are all essay and participation counts. very helpful, kind and funny. ended up being a great class.
pretty challenging class, but the subject matter is interesting and he keeps it interesting too. class was hardly ever boring. readings are required and difficult, but he goes over everything. similar to an english class. grade was 2 papers, midterm, final, and pop quizzes. if you work hard and participate, you will do fine. really good class.
The class was GREAT...I learned so much...I was really happy I took this class. If you are looking for an easy class, this is not it, but if you are willing to put a little effort in and learn a lot this professor is great. He is funny and knows how to keep thing interesting...i was never bored.
Gives 1 question quizzes. Test require extensive studying but ask only a few questions.
Tons of readings, but you learn a lot in his class. Very interesting lectures and is very well organized. Class consisted of two midterms, a paper and pop quizzes that were easy if you did the readings.
This was a great class where I learned a great deal of information.
This professor is amazing! You work really hard, but it pays off with so much knowledge! Take him if you would like to learn a lot! He's really organized and very accessible
The only thing i can say, as helpful as he can be, when you reach the grad level, he'll get harder & harder. But in the end, he'll go easy on you, if you can handle his research papers!!!
He is very very hard, and the material is hard, but he is very helpful and is very good at explaining what you read. Keep up on reading as there are 10-15 reading quizzes. Over all, good, but tough class
MUST READ and ATTEND CLASS. Great class and the best lecturer I've had at State. He really knows the material but you MUST MUST MUST go to class to understand the class and do well.
This class was tough, but the professor is GREAT! The first half of the course was largely philosophical and the second half focused primarily on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. Attendance is a must as is completing the assigned readings. The class consisted of 10 or so pop-quizzes, 2 midterms and a final (take-home) paper.
oh who would care if he's hard? let's face it, he is hard, but has a great background in MIDDLE EAST POLITICS
LOVED HIM. Best I've had @ SDSU. He likes discussion. Explains the readings very well bc they're difficult to understand. ATTEND LECTURE IT'S INTERESTING! A couple of rdg assign, midterm & final r essay format. so READ!
I had him a few semesters ago and thought he was fantastic, one of the profs that touched my life. He does ask a lot of his students, but isn't that what you're there for? You will learn so much from this man and he WANTS to help you. He will not give you a higher grade because you are pretty or talk a lot in class, he will give you what you earn.
I *loved* this class--very interesting! His lectures were great to listen to. You have to read b/c there are pop quizzes. Class participation is a big plus. Midterm & final are in class essays. I learned so much! (Also, I'm not a Poli Sci major, took this class for GE). If you're looking for an awesome, challenging GE, take him!
He is an extremely intelligent professor. The class is challenging, but doable. You need all the textbooks and class is mandatory, but you can miss four days. There are two close-reading assignments, a midterm and a final. If you are required to take a political thought class, I would definitely take it with him. Fair grader.
He is very STRANGE!!! With that said he is a very educated man and really cares about what he teaches. I missed 2 classes and I felt like I was always behind when I came to the next class. He is big on participation. Don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask questions because he sometimes can be very confusing. You MUST get the texts!
Prof. Abdel-Nour's POL 363 is difficult. He requires a ton of reading, lots of studying, and will make you feel like a jerk if you're not paying attention in class. That being said, he's a brilliant guy, very helpful, and what you get in the class depends on how much work you put in. This class prepared me for my capstone course. Recommended!
Dr. Abdel-Nour is the ideal pedagogue. He embodies what a teacher should do: provide the tools for a mastery of the material, and gives room for you to work with it and attempt to understand it. Its the best class you will ever take. You MUST read everything, attend class and stay on the schedule. Oh and dont use your cell phone.
Prof Abdel-Nour is a very good professor. I enjoyed the class quite a bit. Be warned that the class requires alot of reading and he expects you to come prepared to discuss, discuss, discuss. If you do the readings the class will be a lot of fun- if you don't it will be hell. Prof is a nice guy- funny- passionate on the topic- good lecturer.
This professor knows his stuff and really made some of the most boring books I've ever read really interesting. His tests are hard so make sure to read every night and go to class every day. if you have questions ask or go to office hours.
You must go to class! This guy is awesome, seriously, my new favorite professor at State. Do not take this class if you are the type of student that doesn't read for your classes, misses a lot of class and likes to text or send messages on your laptop (yes he can tell) during class, because it is not at all allowed. Dr.
He's a great teacher who really knows his stuff. He seems like a tough grader because there is a lot of reading and the material is sometimes very difficult, but on both of the exams and the papers, my grade turned out better than I expected. Take this class only if you're gonna do the readings and care about the subject!
LOTS of reading. quizzes are one detailed question about the text, unannounced, so GO TO CLASS. takes attendance everyday. i found that taking notes did not help as much for the exams as re-reading did, so do yourself a favor and READ every single page assigned, maybe even twice. he means business.
Brilliant! Had a really great time discussing the literature in class. You must read to get anything out of the class. If you don't read, he will know it. Not an easy class but very fulfilling.
Really good professor. Teaches with passion. He knows exactly what he talks about when he speaks of the Palestinian Isreali conflict. PALESTINIANS ARE AWSOME!!!!!!!
He is a very very good teacher for political theory! I have taken every class I can from him. He knows his stuff and whats better is he is SUPER passionate about it. Show up to class, take GOOD notes and read! If you don't do these you'll fail! 2 in class essays, 2 out of class short papers.
best professor I've ever had, took 2 classes with him,4 or 5 books, 2 close reading assignments, 1 midterm and 1 final, and pop quizzes, you havee to reaad in order to pass the class
Incredibly good teacher. You have to participate and read. Hard exams but easy quizzes and papers. He is very passionate and never boring to listen to. I'm a lazy student and i was able to pass.
Great lectures, class always flew by. Must read, read, read! If you get behind, get caught up quick! One of the best professors ever, perfect for someone who really wants to learn, be engaged and be challenged.
Most enlightening graduate course I have ever had; takes incredibly complicated material and makes it understandable. Reading challenging, but not too much (100-200 pp/wk). He provides extensive feedback on weekly 2-pg papers; useful in preparing lengthy seminar papers. He encourages class discussion but will jump in when class gets lost.
He is one of the best professors I ever had. He is very intelligent and funny, he works with you on whatever questions you might have and his class is never boring. Reading gets overwhelming therefore you can't fall behind. He is definitely a professor I would suggest for people interested in learning about the Palestine-Israeli conflict.
I took 3 political science classes with Prof. Abdel-Nour. Out of respect, admiration & gratitude I take the time to rate him. Keep up with readings, its ok to ask questions. If you want to learn and have fun, he is a professor to consider. The best professor I have had the pleasure of having thus far! He always finds time to help his students. -S
Farid is one of the best professors at SDSU no doubt. His lectures are never boring and you def walk away with a lot of information about the Middle East. Midterm and Final are HARD but not impossible. The readings are long. Make sure to pass all unannounced quizes. If you're willing to work hard then I highly recommend him
This is the best professor I have ever had! He has high expectations, but if you do the reading and attend class, you will learn a lot! It was a privilege to listen to his lecture. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he is also very well spoken. Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy A. It's difficult, but you learn a lot.
This was the best class I have ever taken. It was extremely hard and I have never studied so much for one class but his class is so interesting. I felt smarter after the first 2 classes. He is very nice and helpful and always emails back fast. The class is difficult but you will learn alot
Abdel-Nour is an incredible lecturer. I had no interest in political theory before his class but his lectures are SO good that I enjoyed the class. That being said, this class is incredibly difficult. Lots of readings, which are complex, two writing assignments, a midterm & final, and mandatory attendance AND participation. Get ready to work.
One of the best professors at SDSU. I took his class of government and politic in the middles east. He is so passionate about it that is contagious, you become extremely interested in the class. There are a lot of readings, all worth it. He does a lot of pop quizzes to check if you been doing the reading. A lot of reading for the midterms.
Took him for Gov. and Politics of the Middle East. Great professor but you have to take good notes. Random quizzes at the beginning of some classes. Extremely knowledgeable about the subject and will answer your questions in-depth. If you miss a class, it can be hard to catch up since he moves quickly through such a large subject. Lots of reading.
Had the pleasure of taking Professor Abdel-Nour for Middle East politics. Epitomizes everything that a college professor should be. Midterm, final, paper, quizzes and participation make up the grade. Read, participate in class, study, and do the extra credit and you should do fine.
This is a tough course with a lot of reading but it is worth your time. Professor Abdel-Nour is a fantastic lecturer. He keeps it very interesting and invokes thoughtful engagement and discussion with students. Be prepared to work for your grade but do not pass up a chance to take his course out of laziness.
You're only allowed to miss 4 classes or else you fail, but you don't want to miss ANY classes or else you will be behind. The class is a small lecture, so he requires students to participate to ensure we know what he's talking about. However, you need to read because he will give 8 or 9 quizzes through the semester. BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD.
He is a very tough professor, but you will not regret taking this class. He is amazing. If you have the opportunity to take him I suggest you do so. Do not expect to kick back and get an A because he just isnt one of those professors, he expects you to engage in class discussions.
I've never had a more passionate or knowledgeable professor. This is a theory class, so the nature of the class requires you to analyze and interpret various political theories which can be hard and confusing. However, Farid KNOWS what he's talking about and will use examples to put ideas in modern perspective. Top 5 professors at SDSU.
One of the best professors in the department. Interesting course but expect a lot of readings. Put in work and you'll be good. 2 short papers and 2 tests. Every lecture made me feel enlightened
Challenging, but engaging course. Essential to read so you can participate in class discussion (each class is set up as Socratic). This was a tough course, but wants you to do well, so take advantage of office hours. He will make you work/think vs giving you flat out answers. Also, pretty fair grader if you show knowledge/effort into papers.
Get the same exact version of the books he has in the Syallabus. It makes it a lot easier to follow along. The structure of the class is simple: Read the assigned reading, maybe take a quiz, discuss in class, write essay/midterm/final on the book. You need to read. Not for those of us lazy. But if you read and understand, a B is guaranteed.
Easily the best professor I've had at SDSU. Extremely intelligent & knowledgable, lectures are always animated & insightful, & he makes a genuine effort for every student to understand the material. The assigned readings AND the lectures are integral to the class, & it's clear he expects a LOT, but I've learned more in this class than any other.
Oh professor is AMAZING! Very intelligent and a fantastic guy. GO TO EVERY CLASS!!! At midterm and finals he will give you 7 questions regarding what you covered in the semester, but you are required to only do 2 and turn into essays. He won't tell you which 2 questions off the prompt until the day of the test. His CLASS IS HARD SO GET READY!
The most passionate and engaging professor I have ever had class with. There is a lot of reading to do, but it's all really interesting and crucial to passing. This isn't a class you can skip, but going to lecture every class makes it impossible to fail. Only 2 essays, 2 exams and some simple reading quizzes. Highly recommend!
Wise and compassionate with a razor sharp wit, oftentimes theatrical. I will miss him next semester, just might change my minor so I can listen to more of his brilliant insights on political thought. Like Marie Antoinette, he seemed to float into the classroom glittering like the morning star (POL 302 literary reference).
Probably one of the hardest classes I've taken, but definitely one of the best! The readings are pretty difficult, but Professor Farid really tries to help you understand it. He is more than happy to help if something doesn't make sense. 2 short essays on readings and 2 essay formatted tests. If you read and take good notes, you should do fine!
One of the best professors I've had. Can take any reading and explain it in a way that is easy to understand. He is clearly extremely passionate about what he teaches and gives seriously engaging classes. Very funny.
The material can be difficult to comprehend, but Professor Abdel Nour makes the material much more easier to comprehend through his lectures. You do need to come prepared to take part in discussion since participation is part of the grade. Overall, a really solid choice. Highly recommend.
Dr. Farid is the man. Fiercely intelligent and is really passionate about political philosophy. DO THE ASSIGNED READINGS! They arent long but extremely dense, however,Dr. Farid unpacks everything efficiently. Dont miss class because he randomly gives pop quizzes. 2 short papers (3 pages) and essay style midterm and final. Again, do the readings!
A safe class to take if uneasy about options. The reading was not too demanding and two small papers, test were tough but if you read, go to class, study notes you will do fine. Definitely, recommend office hours if possible to go to he is willing as long as you put the effort.
If I had time and chance, I would take every single one of his class. HE IS AMAZING. Makes you think and makes you want to come to every class and actually I got interested in reading political thoughts. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM
You do need the required books in this class. The readings are quite difficult to understand. He goes over the reading during class. Participation counts. You can get randomly called to answer a question, so read! 1 essay based midterm. 2 short papers on interpreting a reading. Essay based final exam. Quizzes are given randomly but not too hard.
This professor goes over some pretty dense material, but somehow explains it very well and organized. Keep up with the reading and lectures and you will do well, but you have to really engage with the text. He allows for 3 missed classes, excuse free, but it does hurt you (pop quiz & lectures). He appreciates specificity and is very understanding.
I was so nervous about taking a political theory class, but Farid has made the experience so much better than I thought it would be. He is very patient takes his time to explain every concept. He does his best to make our reading assignments short and is also very considerate. There will be mini pop quizzes and 3 essays.
He is amazing and sore are his lectures. You have to do the readings but the readings are interesting and short but hard to understand. He explains it in class so you will get it. One of the best professor I had so far. He is very reachable and supportive. Overall its not a hard class, I would definitely take more classes with him.
although not fun, classes are always interesting and mindblowing. really helped me grow a better understanding of a lot of things and a passion for political theory. by far the best professor I have ever had. Students really have to work for an A. Loved both 302 and 510. Take 302 a semester before taking 510, trust me on this.
Prof. Abdel-Nour is an excellent political theory professor, and I'm sure he is just as excellent in other classes as well. He is hilarious while describing difficult concepts, but rest assured, by the end you will understand the difficult concepts. He is always willing to help. ALWAYS READ, ALWAYS SHOW UP, you're only graded on four assignments
One of the best classes I have ever taken at SDSU. Professor Farid makes difficult political concepts easy to understand. As long as you read and pay attention in class you will pass. I wish he taught more political theory so I could take more of his classes!
Very intelligent and passionate and made dense material easier to understand. It's pretty easy to pass as long as you attend class, pay attention, and do readings, but the trade off is it's nearly impossible to get an A due to his particular grading. He knows the material like the back of his hand and expects the same of his students.
Hardest class Ive ever taken but passed. 1 in class midterm essay, 1paper, 1 in class final essay, & some essay pop quizzes, participation/attendance pts. Your writing skills must be good for this class. Hard readings! However, if youre struggling hes always there to help. Very good & smart Professor just not the easiest class. Dont miss class!
I took Dr. Abdel-Nours theory class and it was so fun. For each section he embodies the theorists he is explaining and responds as if he was them. Going to lectures and reading is mandatory. Make sure you think about what you say before you say it too cause if It doesnt add anything he will roast you. Like straight up roasted me like 5 times lol
He is a great but difficult professor. Be prepared to read, and do not skip any readings. He goes over everything during lecture, so don't be afraid if you don't get the readings immediately, just be sure to re-read and, at the very least, partially comprehend them for each test.
Attendance is necessary as lectures are not posted online and are crucial to understanding the difficult readings. But show up and he will make sure you understand all the content. Doing the readings before class goes a long way. Two papers, midterm, final, and attendance/participation only grades. Very funny and engaging lectures.
A great professor but you must be a good student. I did not do many of the readings and missed a lot of the classes, but if I showed up and tried harder I would have done a lot better. He sets you up for success but you must plan on going to class and actually doing the reading. Super caring guy overall, though, and brings a lot of humor.
Farid's class is challenging but engaging. Attend lectures and do the readings to succeed - they're crucial, even if dense. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for review alongside other study tools. Overall, a rewarding experience.
lectures are so good. you definitely have to attend class though to pass, and keep up with the readings. i have learned so much from his class though so i recommend!
POLS302 - Modern Political Thought - Fall 2025 The class consists of readings which you may or may not be quizzed on in class. Quizzes are usually in the first 5 mins of class so don't be late. He does drop the three lowest quiz scores so if you miss one or two you're fine. Great lectures and actually pretty interesting material. Would take again!
Best lecturer I've ever had. Keeps the class very engaged and is incredibly passionate about what he teaches. Its not an easy class but its very rewarding.
I had professor Farid in Fall 2025 and he was hands down the best professor I've ever had. Somehow he memorized every student's name and could remember whether you participated or not in class discussion without writing it down. He also thoroughly knows the material he lectures on and showed he was more than capable of answering complex questions.
