Dr. Odish was by far the best math professor I've ever had. He goes out of his way to ensure every student understands the topic, and his notes are invaluable. GO TO CLASS. You won't pass if you try to teach yourself from the textbook. Even though he gives you a hard time, ask him questions if you're confused. It's worth it.
Dr. Odish is an amazing professor. Attendance is not mandatory, but going to his class really helps. I will definitely take his class again
At first glance Dr Odish may seem tough, but if you stick through with him to the end you will find that he is a teacher who is both passionate about his job and seeing his students succeed. Attendance is mandatory if you wish to receive a good grade but the course itself is not difficult. Go to class, do the homework, study, and you will get an A.
I really don't understand these reviews. Dr. Odish made Calc 2 very hard. There is virtually no extra credit, hard tests, quizzes every week, and lots of homework. I really didn't learn a lot in his class (even though I didn't miss a single day), but had to go to the tutoring center and learn online myself frequently. He doesn't curve. --Avoid.
every week quiz and tough tests and the webwork you will be confused .You won't have time to study .
The best thing about him is that he gives reviews before the exam and the reviews cover at least 80% of the exam.
Don't skip classes
Very old school Professor, but his lectures are quick to the point and is a very smart guy. He is a tough grader when it comes to his short answer questions on his tests, for ex. explain why there is a critical point at that point and explain why you got that root. Anyways, he's a good professor.
Odish really knows his stuff. He gives you the tools to prepare for tests, so if you go to class and understand the practice problems in the book you should be good to go. Write down the example problems because they pop up on quizes and tests.
Odish is a calculus God. His lectures are very clear-crystal. He lightens the mood often by joking around. He can be strict, but if you show him respect, he will be your friend. Expects you to use tutoring center for help. HW can be difficult. Tests are graded harshly. Tough class, and I got a 'C,' but I still love Odish. Best math teacher I've had
One of the Best MATH professors for freshmen, but only problem is that he has lot of head weight and won't respond to emails. If you want to learn go to his class, if you want a A don't ever take him. Best of about his class is the review session before the exams Worst is the Hard grading and Tougher test.
He acts like he is very strict and unforgiving at the start of the class, but definitely lightens up after the first exam. The content isn't easy, but he is an incredible professor, and by the end of the semester all of the student (that have made it that far) have the utmost respect for him. Be patient, work hard, and you can't do better than him.
Odish will not answer questions, he will not allow you to raise your hand during class, he will not help you during office hours. But he is a good teacher. He expects very good algebra skills and geometry knowlege. Quizzes are extremely hard, tests are slightly easier. He provides good test review.
Work hard, do well
Really cool professor. Pulled me and a few other students aside to give us an opportunity to retake the mastery exam when we got a 1620. (1720 was needed to receive any credit on the exam) Explained calculus in basic terms that made it very easy to understand the concepts. Just dont skip class.
Take any class he teaches. Go to every class and be respectful. His lectures are bell to bell and take every ounce of energy out of him out of service to you. Unlike most math lecturers, he will actually teach you calculus. He is extremely easy to understand and genuinely cares for you and your performance. Again, take any class he teaches!
dr,odish is a great teacher, he is very clear in explaining the material. he tries his best, so that every student understand what he is saying. he gives weekly quizzes which are little bit tough but his midterms are so easy . 85% of the test is from the review sheet and the rest is from his notes. he may just give one tough question on the test.
His lectures are very clear and easy to understand even if he is not American. He is very organized and as long as you take notes and go to class you will easily pass the class with a good grade.
Faris Odish is a demanding professor who rushes through content in lectures and does not provide ANY explanation or reasoning for why certain steps are crucial to a problem. When a student asks a question or for clarification, Odish either reacts by being upset or is sarcastic when criticizing the students for not understanding the concepts.
Extremely abrasive, but genuinely cares about your success. Will tell you to go ask the tutoring center for help if your question is trivial (in his eyes). Weekly quizzes, attendance not mandatory, but skippers beware: his lectures are immensely helpful, and if you don't go to them, you'll probably bomb the course.
Odish try to make things difficult than they are. He knows the subject well.. but does not know how to deliver it.. Either you are extremely happy with his teacher or you are completely lost...
Odish is a great teacher, but he has some downsides. " I took him one year ago, so I don't know if he changed". He will teach you in the best way he can. Attend his class and study at the same time. The bad thing is, If someone asked him a kind of stupid question, he would make fun of him in front all the class and make him regret that he asked.
It is as simple as this, if you want a professor who puts every minute of his time in order for you to understand the material the right way, then you're in the right class. His classes are not an "easy A", however, if you attend his classesreviews and study from his notes then you will pass the class without even thinking about it. No book usage
The Boss! One of the best professors in my college career. I was a bit worried about taking calculus 1 and he made the class enjoyable, great teaching style (he actually has a masters in teaching), and he really cares. He "hearted" problems that were going to be on test. After all this time, I fondly remember the class.
Great teacher. Took him for 265 and 265. Amazing lectures and perfect test reviews. Easily my best choice in choosing a math teacher.
Odish makes things harder than they are.... He knows his stuff but does not know how to convey it to the students....
Professor Odish is an excellent teacher who is knowledgeable in his field and knows how to teach the material in a clear and interesting way that is helpful to students' understanding. He has good humor in some of his lectures. One important fact to remember is that if you put in the effort and pay attention in class you can succeed.
Really intimidating at first, but he really cares about his students and it'll show later on in the semester. Lessons move quickly so missing class isn't ideal, but he knows his stuff and in exchange, you'll learn a lot.
Odish is an excellent teacher. You'll leave his class with a better grasp on calc than your peers in other classes. Odish is not an easy A. You have to attend every class, do your homework, and study for the tests to do well. He will not allow a cheat sheet, and he doesn't curve tests. Avoid if you have a poor work ethic because you won't do well.
I took him for Calc 1 and he was phenomenal. I took him again for Calc 2 and the complete opposite. He lectured faster than he should have, did not provide a visual example of most problems and erratically scheduled due dates of the webwork without notifying the students. Unless checking everyday it is easy to miss an assignment.
Take him! Odish teaches well, and he wants you to learn. Even if homework is difficult, all of his lectures are clear, and he can be very funny. He goes through every concept and explains it, and makes sure you understand it. His tests are all based on lectures. He may seem abrasive, but he is a cool guy and lightens up a lot. You'll love him.
If you want to get a good grade in math take this course. By far the best professor I've had, he will do everything he can to help you and he actually cares. Don't miss a class though or you'll be lost.
Professor Odish is one of the best math teachers I have had. He really cares about his students and does his best to make sure they understand the concepts. The material is tough so don't miss any class. He is a great teacher I strongly recommend taking his class.
Had him for MAT 265 and MAT 266. He is a great professor and really cares for his students. As long as you attend his classes and take notes when you do, you should do really well.
Odish is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He really concentrates on the classes weak points. He takes each students success or failure to heart, and really wants each person to succeed. I was a non traditional student, hadnt taken a math class in about 8 years and he was there to point me in the right direction when needed.
Dr. Odish is a great professor that is always there for you and provides clear instruction on course material. He is by far the best math professor I have had since attending ASU and highly recommend taking him. He is very passionate about math and helps you become passionate as well. TAKE HIM!!!!
don't know what to say tbh
By far one of the best teacher I have had. Will do a review before a test with examples of what will be on the test. Also does examples from the book. He really wants to help you. Seriously one of the best teachers. He has an issue with cell phones so make sure they are turned off. Just go to every class and you will pass.
Whoever gave Odish a bad rating is crazy. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. If you go to class and pay attention you will get an A no problem.
While Odish is a good teacher who clearly understands the material, he is extremely rude and most of the time refuses to help his students outside of his lectures. He believes his lectures cover 100% of the necessary material and that any other help is a waste of his time. If you understand calculus, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE NICER!
Not easy. Its a calc class but when my other friends in other classes were freaking out over how to do the material I was confident. He really tends to answer the questions before you ask them through his lectures. However, in person help can be stressful. One of the best professors for this class.
Odish was alright. I had a really good background for calc 2 so his lectures were unhelpful and a bit confusing. Really doesn't like being contacted out of class. I went to maybe 6 lectures all semester. His webwork is much harder than his exams. No blackboard, so grades were only updated after each exam. His "pop quizzes" are worth the same as hw.
I took Odish for Calc 1 at ASU. He teaches very clearly with many examples. This being said, if you do not understand something, then you can ask, but be prepared to be belittled. He is very intelligent, but can often be rough around the edges. There are often quizzes and if you don't attend class, you will not pass.
Mr. Odish is an awesome teacher who wants all of his students to pass. Math can be hard for some people but Odish does his best to make sure everyone understands the material. asking questions about your grade can be a bit of a challenge because he is not very available. He is really funny and a super nice guy.
Great teacher, very clear lecture.
Odish is tough at first and you may not like him at first, but he grows on you. Don't miss lectures, he gives weekly quizzes that aren't on the syllabus and the questions are like the notes. He reviews before the 2 tests and finals and the questions are pretty identical. Overall good professor!
Odish is an amazing professor. He comes off as an ass at the beginning of the school year to earn the student's respect but later on he cools off. Lectures are amazing and this is coming from someone who has a really short attention span. Homework is directly related to the quizzes and test reviews are directly related to the test.
Professor Odish is one of those teachers that is not easy to like at the beginning of a course. However towards the end, he is a teacher that I would most definitely take again. He explains his concepts well and is usually prepared to answer any questions. You can tell he is super knowledgeable in what he is talking about. Take him!
Easily the best math professor ive ever had. The tests are rough but if you attend class every lecture and study the homework, you'll be in the clear. He also applies everything you learn to real world scenarios. Get in his class if you get the chance.
At the beginning of the semester you're not going to like Odish. However, as the semester goes on and the students who are not serious about his class drop, he will become nicer. He gave our class a lot of extra credit too for just showing up and randomly on the quizzes. His test are not easy, but if you study for it you will do well. I love Odish.
Dr. Faris Odish was probably one of my favorite professors. Throughout his lectures he goes over everything that will be on the exams so attendance is important! His tests are only tough if you don't study and expect quizzes every Friday. The only homework he assigns is webwork, which are all very easy, but make sure you complete all of them!
Odish was a fantastic teacher! As long as you show up to class and pay attention you will do fine! Odish is very clear in his expectations and he does a good job preparing you for all of the tests. I really enjoyed Calc 2 with Odish and I would take him as a teacher again any day!
Odish takes you from any math background and always explains every step, even basic algebraic ones. Everything in the notes is on the test; he never throws any curveballs. He's super awesome!!!
I took Faris Odish for Calc 1 (MAT 265) and Calc 2 (Mat 266) and he has been the only professor to make Calculus make sense to me. TAKE NOTES, do not sleep through class or skip it. He goes through many different example types for every section and explains every step. Take him if you want to understand Calc.
I've had Odish for both 265 & 266 and he is the best professor I've had at ASU. He will take you as you are (good or bad at math), but he expects you to put as much effort into his class as he puts into the lectures (a lot). If you do that - you'll understand the material, do well, and earn his respect. - 007
He is a very good instructor honestly. I really like the way he teaches and how to get to the point in easy way. At the beginning I was scared but after the first quiz, I got more motivations and worked hard to get a good grade at this class. He makes Math so fun and interesting to make the student feel good and do good at the quizzes and Exams.
Dr. Odish is very great. He is one of the best professors at ASU. He explains the material very well. His lectures are always well prepared. Calculus is not an easy subject, but he makes it fun and understandable. He might seem harsh, but he is actually very kind. I definitely recommend him.
You're definitely going to have to study and do the homework to do well in the class, although I strongly believe its more difficulty of the actual material than that he's a poor teacher. Just make sure to pay attention in class and take notes, because he goes over everything that you'll see on the tests.
He's a tough at the beginning of the semester, but I believe he does care about his students doing well and succeeding. His lectures are really helpful, especially since they are saturated with examples. Quizzes and tests are not difficult as long as you pay attention and do your homework.
Odish grades easy on the quizzes and the tests are easy to pass if you study with the online practice tests. He doesn't assign very much homework, however don't expect any help outside of class. Odish comes off a little mean in the beginning but is actually quite nice by the end of the semester and is a teacher I would take again.
Now I know why people value him as one of the best professors at ASU he is great at what he does he goes through every example into depth and asks if everyone gets the material before moving on. There are two homework assignments due every week and there is a quiz on the material at the end of every week. Ace the quizzes and the tests will be easy.
Before the first test he may seem a little harsh but I think thats because he wants to weed out all the weak people bc after the 1st test he gets funny and a lot nicer. 1st test will probably be the hardest, if you can survive that you'll be good for the rest of the semester. Does review before every test. Weekly quizzes. Gives extra credit
Dr. Odish is a great professor who teaches calculus in an effective and valuable way. Students who pay attention will succeed. Good notes become a study guide and enable you to pass. The most crucial in-class examples will always be highlighted. Regardless, I would take this class again solely because of how funny is Dr. Odish.
Professor Odish was very intimidating in the beginning. However, when the class size greatly decreased after people dropped out, Odish was a lot friendlier and engaging, cracking jokes with us. He really cares about his students; he wants you to get good grades and will help you in any way. Course isn't easy but GO TO CLASS and study!! Love the man
Expect a quiz every week, he won't always announce. He won't let you walk all over him, but he will always help if you ask or raise your hand. Make sure to do so because he believes in staying on track & getting the lesson done. Super sweet, but you may not think so at first. Accent, but it adds to his character. Love Odish!
This man is the best professor that I ever had. He's there for you. His lectures are amazing, if you go to every class, I guarantee that you will get A. Quizzes every week.
Great professor. I like his way.
Odish is a great teacher- especially for new Calculus students. His accent takes a bit to get used to, and he is VERY strict up until the mastery exam (you take it mid-semester). This is the class where if you do not learn to study- its over. I unexpectedly ended up with an A and I am not very math oriented. He does not use -+ scale. Best calc pro
An awesome person & teacher. His strategy is to intimidate you, so that you follow his rules, but then he warms up to you as the class progresses. He does not give A- or A+ (I would have gotten an A+, like a 99.8). Go to class, go to class. He sincerely cares about you, and wants you to do well. Summary: Work hard, moderate difficulty, & nice guy
He has an accent which makes him hard to understand. He goes over one example per concept. His tests are tough and quizzes are once a week. Homework is easy to BS but doesn't help out grade much.
ODISH IS THE BEST! Seriously, if you have the chance to take him, DO IT. He is so helpful, so nice, and so thoughtful. He truly cares about his students and he really wants people do to well. He made calc 2 very clear, I wish i had him for MAT265!
Professor Odish is an awesome teacher who makes everything clear and simple on math. He will give you a great chance to pass any quiz or test. Take his class if you want a good grade.
Odish truly cares about his students and will give you the necessary tools to get an A. You do have to work for it, though. Take notes, go to every class, and make sure you ask questions to clear things up. He's pretty funny and will throw some extra credit from time to time. Best math prof I've had. Definitely would take again.
Odish has an amazing teaching style. He is very clear and knowledgeable in the subject and is overtly excited about it. As long as you stick with him and the course studying intently, going to to tutoring centers and taking notes in class you will be more than fine. You must go to class and work hard for it, but an A is more than possible.
Demands a bit, but a great teacher for those who want to learn.
Easy quizzes, hard tests.
Pr. Odish is an expert in what he does. He make complex problems look so easy and prepare the students very well, but his test are also demanding to that level. If you do homework on time and study in general you will do great.
He genuinely cares about your success in the class. He may seem strict to those who are new to college, but it's because he wants you to do well. Definitely go to every lecture. Don't be afraid to ask for help. He's an extraordinary professor. I have always been terrible at math and he made it easy for me.
Professor Odish is hands down the best math teacher I've ever had. Although the material is somewhat difficult, Odish teaches with an intent to make sure his students understand the material. He goes slow and is hilarious as well. There are quizzes every week but they are simple. Tests are straightforward and like the study guide. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
He has a very light accent so don't worry about it, it is actually pretty funny. He doesn't really give extra credit or A+'s. Study what he tells you in lecture and you will do great. I used the textbook twice during the semester for assigned hw.
I really enjoyed taking this class with Professor Odish. Be prepared to spend time on the homework and to study for tests because if you don't do review problems the tests will be hard. Make sure you always go to class because he will give out extra credit for bringing your textbook if he borrows it. As long as you put in the effort you'll be fine!
Odish is an extremely good professor, one of the best you will find at the college level. He gives lots of homework problems and they are very hard, but the tests are much easier and less thorough. He will make you work hard, but you will do well in the class if you pay attention. Funny, caring, and challenging - you can't go wrong with Odish.
Odish is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Although is he is strict, he cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. You must attend class and do all the homework in order to get an A in his class.
he is bad proffesor, he dont help you with anything, he think that he is the greatest but he is not. quizzes are very difficult .
If you are expecting a nice and inviting teacher for math this isn't the teacher to take. Odish is a very strict teacher but he is fair when it comes to expectations and grades. Odish comes off as rude and insensitive but if you can get past that he will make any calc class easier for you without skipping material
Definitely cares about teaching the material in an intelligent, well-organized fashion. I took this class over the summer, so there was no cumulative final. Also, there was no homework. We had a quiz every other class. Very low tech.
Dr Odish is the man! Your gonna work, your going to struggle, you might even cry; I did. But, you are going to come out of his class with the tools and tenacity to achieve where others will fail. He's rough around the edges, no doubt. However, if you prove to him that you are there to learn he will bend over backwards to help. Ty Dr Odish!
very strict, but probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. He explains everything clearly in terms that anyone can understand and goes over even the most basic math involved in solving any given problem. definitely would recommend, but be prepared to work hard and have lots of hw, as with any class of this nature.
Math is not my strong area, and Odish makes it easy! He gives clear material and provides the tools to succeed. I didn't pass my first semester with a different professor so I took his course and passed. Go to the tutoring center, read the book, and do the homework! Gives quizzes almost weekly. Amazing professor who cares about his students!!
Dr. Odish is very good at teaching the concept, but he is very strict. Don't talk in class, don't speak at all unless called on and don't let your phone go off or ask a question he deems is a waste of time for the class. He will make you stand in the hall. But be quiet and attentive, and you will learn and understand the concepts. Minimal homework.
If you are looking to actually learn rather than pass a class, take Odish. Some say he is mean, but I feel like he is just serious and a little abrasive, and many people don't know how to handle those types of people.
Professor Odish is by far the best math professor I have ever had. I previously failed MAT 210, but after taking his class everything made sense. He is very energetic and is easy to understand. He doesn't let you use ANY tech during class, and is very strict. But he is a great teacher, and very well respected.
He is very serious and unbelieving. He often be angry with students. Because they look at their cellphone even somebody speak a little loudly. He will let you leave class. And he has accent to make you hard to understand. If you ask a question which he thinks easy, he will sneer you and scorn for asking. He has quiz every week that very difficult.
He is great at explanation. Although sometimes the HW is not straight forward , it can be solved. He is not very friendly but as long as you do the HW and revise lecture materials you can pass. He has a quiz every week. The exams though are not very fair in grades in my opinion,8% for each multiple choice question and 12% for free response question
Odish was a very kind professor who, if you ask a question, will take as much time as needed to explain to you. Don't be afraid to ask him questions! He has a very loud and brutish personality, but wants you to succeed! You have to study for his tests though! The study guides are a great help! Don't just assume you know something!
Once you get over the accent, you can't help but like the guy. He makes an extra effort to make sure students understand the hard topics!
Math has never been my strong suit, but Odish makes learning Calculus extremely smooth. He is very helpful during his lectures and even tells you the type of questions that will be on the upcoming quizzes or midterms. I would take him again.
By far the best math teacher I've ever had. The beginning of the semester he comes off strict but after a few weeks he's one of the funniest guys on campus. He will kick you out for 5 minutes for being on your phone. He will say your question is dumb sometimes but he demands a certain level of respect. He is one of the best math teachers. 10/10
Odish is a wonderful professor. He is strict and runs the class the way he wants, but he gives wonderful lectures. He is funny and is very engaging to the class. He has a slight accent but it is tolerable. I would recommend him for sure. Best Calc teacher on campus
Homework due every Sunday night, quizzes every Friday at the end of class over the weeks notes and 3 tests excluding the final exam. He starts off seeming scary and tough but after about the first exam he gets really nice and his notes are much more helpful, usually giving questions that will be on the tests and quizzes.
I can honestly say that this professor is a fair and dedicated individual. He cares that his students learn and values their hard work
Odish is a great professor who actually cares about his students. He's charismatic in his lectures and knows how to keep you interested. Something I have never seen another Math professor do. Make sure you show work on his tests though. On one test I only had one wrong answer but I received a 65 because I didn't show enough work.
He picks on students a lot, and it is hilarious, unless you're the one being picked on. Pay attention in class and listen to his rules, it will help you. Not a difficult teacher, just pay attention because sometimes he will mix up words and say different things than what he writes. He discourages students from going to his office hours though.
Professor Odish was by far the best teacher I have had in my schooling career for many reasons. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed in every aspect of their lives. As long as you apply yourself and attend class you will do fine in his class.
Odish is the best teacher I've ever had. He explains things extremely well. He is kind of a hard ass but it is just to make sure his students focus.
I had never taken a calculus class before this semester,. Odish was definitely the right choice for me. He explained things extremely well and liked to keep you awake with the bell he drew on the board. Don't get me wrong though, it's not an easy class. If you want to pass, you're going to have to dedicate a lot of time to study.
This class is tough! There were about 60 in the class at the start of the semester, but only around 30 ended up actually passing. Get ready to spend hours in the tutoring center every week! Although I did not pass, I still think Odish is BY FAR the best MAT210 professor. He is very thorough in his explanations. He's also hilarious.
Can be a tough class if you don't show up and listen to lectures. Has online homework for 2-3 sections every week, doesn't do much to your grade but a great way to practice and study for quizzes and tests. He has quizzes every week over 3 sections, but is a great teacher and can be fun in class. It can be tough, but definitely feel like you learn.
Tough grader
Odish is A good Professor he is so funny, Just show up to the class and take notes. You will be fine. He puts two stars (**) in some examples, which means that he is going to bring them in the test. Do not worry, those who said he is a tough grader, they are wrong they just want everything to be easy.
Great professor for calc! Doesn't take attendance, but show up because you usually have a quiz every week. He'll teach the material on Tuesday and you'll take the quiz on Thursday. His tests are usually like his review, so show up for those! Says he doesn't curve, but when there's a bad question on an exam, he'll curve it out
Odish was a great professor. He clearly explained everything and his reviews were exactly like the test. Sit near the front because if he uses your textbook/calculator he sometimes gives you EC points afterwards. HW doesn't count for much but prepares you well. Show up to every class because he gives quizzes every week on what you learned before.
i felt personally attacked by the amount of homework given andthe DIFFICULTY of the homework. VERY simple examples in class, perfect sense, nothing to be questioned. Homework?? I had 5 tutors help me for 2 homework problems in the second chapter.. took 3 hours. Tutors will run form u. Hardest class ever but at least hes funny so i suffer a lil less
Odish is an absolute delight in the classroom, he makes sure to thoroughly go through problems you will find on the homework and tests. Paying attention in class has never been a problem because of his passion to teach the subject (he's hilarious). This class does have rough patches but if you listen to his hints and lectures you'll get through it.
The best math teacher i've had in a while. He doesn't allow a cheat sheet on quizzes and exams like other calc professors. Lots of memorization. Sometimes goes a bit too fast. Had to drop calc 2 last semester and took it with Odish this semester. Got a B because of the way he grades the exams. Got all A's on the quizzes and hw though.
One of the best professors that taught me in the university, he tries to make everyone in the class understand and then continues teaching. I advise everyone to enroll in his class.
Amazing guy that cares and really does his absolute best in every single lecture. He covers everything you need to know and really is helpful in lecture. There is a quiz every friday, which makes you stay on top of your game and always be studying the material. The final is extremely nice, he goes over exactly what will be on it. Very good prof.
Dr. Odish is an amazing professor. Go to class because he is great at explaining concepts and giving relevant examples. His class was very organized. He's funny but very strict--just keep your mouth shut and you will be fine. Quizzes are once a week, and tests are accurate to material taught. I wish Odish taught every math class I had to take.
Best math teacher I've had so far. Does a great job at explaining concepts and how to work through problems. Weekly quizzes. Funny. Keep your mouth shut and you'll be fine (never talk out of turn)
Odish works lots of examples in his lectures, and usually they appear again on the tests. He offered extra credit one time. He is a little strict, but he wants students to get the most out of the time they are in the classroom. Quizzes once a week on the topic covered in lectures. He moves very quickly, but covers a lot of material.
If you like taking tests that drastically effect your grade on things you learned the same day then this is the professor for you, otherwise probably best to avoid. Will also quiz/test you on other things than he tells you he's going to.
Odish is a very difficult and unreliable teacher. His test will try to trick you on every problem and since he gives out his own test and not the math departments tests, only he knows how. Also I tried to go to his office hours multiple times and he was not there the majority of the time. Do not take if you don't have to.
People who criticize Odish simply don't want to work in Calc. Odish is truly the best math teacher I have ever had. Wehn you finish his class you will feel that you have truly mastered all of the material. He is a very hard grader and is set in his ways, but his teaching methods force you to master all of the calc 1 concepts. Great professor!
Odish is the best calculus teacher out there. He's really good at what he teaches and explains it concisely. You do have to work for an A though. You don't have to show up to class but if you wanna pass, do it. You also don't need the book but as I said, if you wanna do good in his class use it. Definitely get Odish even if it's early in the mornin
If you want to actually learn calculus, particularly for Calc 1, take Odish. He's very strict, but he's very clear about his expectations. If you don't like his expectations, you might not like his class. Just do the work, and you'll master Calculus.
Dr. Odish is honestly the most trustworthy professor you will ever have in your entire math career. He does a great job at breaking down and explaining concepts. Take his class if you really want to understand the meanings behinds math. Absolutely amazing professor.
Dr. Odish is hands-down the best professor I've ever had. He does a great job of making complex concepts seem easy. If you miss too many classes you'll really fall behind so make sure to stay on top of lecture material. He's strict and methodical but the man knows his stuff. And he's pretty funny too
Dr. Odish is by far the best professor I have ever had. At first he might seem like he is too strict but later you will find out that he actually cares about your education. He is very well respected and very fair with grades. He will take you as who you are. Even if you are not the strongest in algebra he will explain everything perfectly.
Professor Odish is a great teacher who cares that his students learn calculus well. He explains topics thoroughly, goes over plenty of examples, and clearly points out which examples/notes to study for tests and quizzes. The lectures aren't required but you definitely need to attend them. He's strict but the rules are clear and sensible.
Odish is one of the best if not the BEST math professor you can take at ASU. If you need to take a math class, take one as soon as the registration opens, they get filled up fast. He will try his best to teach you the math concepts for the course, but it will still require you to understand and practice them to pass the class. Wouldn't mind retake.
Dr. Odish teaches on a different level. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. Although tough curriculum, you will not be sorry enrolling in his classes. He is funny, and very serious about what he does. He teaches you everything you will ever need to know for his exams from lecture, and loves in class discussions. 10/10 professor
Odish was able to make the lectures interesting , engaging, and understandable despite how difficult the calc II material can be. There is a lot of Webwork, but it can be easily managed since he assigns it at least a week in advance which leaves plenty of time to visit the tutoring center. Do whatever it takes to enroll in Odish's calculus class.
Dr. Odish is the best professor for Calc 2. Clears any doubts in class, no matter how easy. Writes all the steps for problems on the board. Tests are easy, and he holds a review class before every test. Webwork is sometimes tougher than what is covered in the class. Enjoyed going to his classes, and the lectures were never boring.
After taking both MAT265 and MAT266 with Prof. Odish, I genuinely recommend him to other students. Odish works tirelessly in each lecture to both cover core concepts of each section and to prepare you for the homework and tests. Attend every lecture and put in the work required for this subject and you'll appreciate this class and Odish's efforts.
Amazing Teacher! At first he was very intimidating but after the drop deadline passed he was very friendly. He teaches the concepts and well and focuses on why you do things in math rather than just how to do them.
Extremely supportive in every aspect. He is always wanting his students to strive to do their best. Odish also gives his students multiple opportunities to get extra credit, either through answering questions in class or attending study sessions throughout the week.
Odish is an amazing professor. He'll start the class off with an iron fist but as long as you follow his completely reasonable rules there won't be a problem. He packs his lectures full of material and pulls directly from lecture for the test. He cares that his students learn. Calc 2 is a tough course for many but Odish is very thorough.
Odish is by far my best professor and I generally hate most math courses. He's funny and really passionate about the topic. Usually when I see "passionate teachers" they are convoluted but have very advanced information on the topic, but Odish's lectures are very clear and insightful. I got a 100 on the final just from showing up.
His lectures are really important. Show up, understand the material, and solve the webwork questions.
The course material for Calc II is considered to be very difficult, but Odish does his best to ensure that his students understand it well. He had great lectures, and went through each important topic very thoroughly. Just go to all the lectures and get help on the homework at the tutoring center (if needed), and you will do fine in the class.
Worst professor I've ever had. I hated every second of being in this man's class I ended up failing out, but took a standardized test to get the credit for the class. So in other words I taught myself the rest of the material better than odish ever could. Avoid his class like the plague.
Professor Odish is one of those professors who enjoy teaching but even more important loves what he is teaching. He completely knows the material he is teaching and I very well prepared for the class. His in-class notes are Perfect and provide students with the best insight of some of the most important questions and questions types. HE IS THE BEST
I hadn't taken math in almost 10 years and was really worried about taking Calculus. I'm so glad that I took Odish. The way he teaches the material makes it very easy to understand, and he will even review pre-calc concepts to help you succeed. I'm not a morning person and opted to take his 7:30am Calc2 class this semester just to have him again.
He is a great professor. I have taken him for both Calculus 1 and I am currently taking him for Calculus 2. I took his 7:30 am class even though I am not a early-morning person. He teaches the concepts in a way that will help you in the tests. All the exam questions are from the lecture itself. You will end up getting an A just by attending class.
I took Odish's class for MAT 265 and am now taking his MAT 266 class. In his class I never had to read the textbook, but his clear lectures got me an A in the class nevertheless. I highly recommend taking his class--his exams and quizzes line up perfectly with the notes from lecture, and he makes everything very easy to understand.
I took professor Odish's class for MAT 265 and now I am continuing with the same professor. I love the way he teaches and clears each and every concept of math. I highly recommend him for math. Hes is one of the best professors for Math. I pulled an A because of his notes and quizzes that were similar to class notes. He makes things easy.
ok, but I wouldn't survive with pomodoro technique and pomodorium
Odish is a great and funny professor. There is a reason why he would not let us use our phones in class and he wants our attention to him. Lectures are clear and uses a lot of examples that are almost similar to the homework.
As someone with ADHD, I need professors who are clear, concise, and great at condensing information without sacrificing the quality of that information. Odish is phenomenal at this. I'm the furthest thing from a morning person, but I'm in his 7:30am class, and it's 100% worth it. I honestly really wish he taught the rest of my required maths.
He is one of the best math professors I have ever had! His class is challenging yet very rewarding. He cares about his students, and is passionate about what he teaches. He makes sure everybody understands the basics before moving on with the main lecture and he gives great examples. He is truly an amazing professor, you should take him if you can!
I took Odish for Calc I and II. His teaching is easy to follow and his tests are fair. He tells the class in advance when the quizzes will be and they cover 2-3 lectures, and if you get a perfect score you get 11/10. I would take him for every math class if I could.
Odish is a great professor and I will take him for Calc II next semester. If you pay attention in class he explains everything in the best way possible. This semester not only I learned differentiation but also where and how it will be used in real life.
The class is fairly easy if you go to every lecture. He specifically wants you to watch during the first run through an example problem where he wants you to completely understand the process of the problem. Then you can take notes on the problem which there would a lot throughout the course.
Seriously, if you're looking at this review to choose whether or not to take this class, TAKE IT. Odish will actually make you LIKE math. There I said it. I actually enjoy math bc of him. His lectures are very good, go to all of them. He really cares for his students and the tests and quizzes are very fair. Would definitely recommend.
I wish he taught calc3, I love him as a person and as a teacher. He literally provided me with his prestigious LOR for the on-campus jobs I was applying to. Very understanding and very clear about concepts. I wish he taught every math class I was gonna take in future. He loves his subject very much and makes his class enjoyable and informative. :)
Highly recommend taking Dr. Odish whether you just need Math for credits or if it is a really important part of your major .
Dr. Odish is amazing. He cares for his students. He is definitely a great math teacher and the best at ASU. He knows what he is teaching in and out. Definitely take him for Calc1 and 2 and your concepts will be very strong.
good teacher but tough grader.
Best Math teacher i've ever had, straight to the point and thorough with notes.
I took Dr. Odish over the summer for Calc 2. By far the best Math professor I've ever had. Dr. Odish can make anything in Calculus feel easy for his students. Although very strict and sometimes harsh, Dr. Odish actually has a big heart and will do all he can to help, just ask nicely.
Hard to understand. Poor teaching, its better to get a tutor or teach yourself the material.
Odish is favorite prof this semester Lays out ground rules on the first day and it seems like he'll be a grumpy prof, but he really loves math and tries to make his lectures entertaining I didnt buy the textbook because homework is online. Homework is abit much sometimes. Quiz about every two weeksbut theyre like in class problems Taking him again!
Professor Odish truly cares about his students and wants them to learn. This is my second semester taking him in a row and has made calculus 1 and 2 my favorite courses i have taken in my career at ASU. You will definitely learn calculus.
Amazing Calc II Professor. Highly recommend. Don't miss a lecture as everything builds from the previous lecture. Weekly quizzes so be prepared, usually on a Friday
Odish comes off as a rude old man but he is actually really caring and goes over many example problems to make sure you understand. He makes sure to go over the fundamentals of calculus to also help you actually understand. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN.
Verg good professor. I took him for calc 1 and 2 and have such a good understanding of it thanks to him.
Odish cares immensely about his students. The first couple weeks he acts tough to scare away bad students. Once you get deep into the semester, you'll find him cracking jokes. Lots of quizzes, but he always gives you a heads up and lets you what type of problems will be on there. He always tells you exactly what to expect on the exams.
Take Odish for Calc and he will make sure you understand calculus. All the criticism of him is just because he can be strict, but he truly cares about his students and wants them to do well while also learning the concepts. The tests and quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class and make sure to do all the homework to maximize your points.
He starts the semester off tough to weed out the students who don't care. After the first few weeks, he starts cracking jokes and you can tell he cares about his students. Gives adequate warning for quizzes and exams, and does a thorough review before each exam. Amazing teacher.
First day of class I walked in and was like "damn, it's just an old dude." Can't believe I was so quick to judge. This man is amazing at what he does--just silence your phone before class.
It might take a bit to warm up to this teacher, but when you do, you'll realize how great a math teacher he is. He cracks funny jokes, gives out good, helpful lectures, and you can really just tell he cares about each and every one of the students, which he makes clear throughout the course. Best Calc II teacher on campus.
Professor Odish is an alright professor. With his strict T/A and 1-2 quizzes a week (out of three sessions a week) you quickly realize that it can become hard to keep up. He only uses Webwork for homework which is a free program. Try to get a professor who utilizes web-assign, a paid program, free with purchase of textbook, it's much better.
I took Calculus BC during high school so this class was super easy, but Professor Odish really did a great job with going through each concept with multiple examples. He's really funny and might roast you in class. One thing is that he may or may not announce quizzes but they usually fall right after finishing a topic.
Odish is the GOAT of all math teachers at ASU. Took Calc in high school and I was really confused, but he made Calc 2 feel like a 1 credit class, explaining complex concepts very well. If you pay attention and listen in class, the homework is like review and the tests/quizes are quite easy. If only he teaches Calc 3 and every math class at ASU...
He is a really awesome professor and caring. Only thing he ever did wrong was not teach my calc 3 and diff. Eq. Class. Actually almost teared up leaving his class the last day of my class because i had him for calc 1 and 2.
Teaches in an explanatory way and holds a passion for math
Dr. Odish is awesome. He may seem intimidating at first, but he truly cares about his students. He helped me find a passion for mathematics.
Professor Odish is my favorite professor. He teaches you exactly what you need to know and is a very funny guy. He wants his students to succeed. As long as you attend the lectures and pay attention you'll be almost guaranteed to pass. I took him for both MAT 265 and MAT 266 (Calc 1 & 2) and I would take him again if he taught Calc 3.
He is an amazing professor that really knows what he is doing. He is a good instructor and a fair grader. Please show up at the lectures, as you need them to really get a good grade in the class.
Condescending, unhelpful with impossible standards. Makes students feel stupid for asking questions and never provides the appropriate assistance. Would not take again.
I was in the military for six years after high school. The last math class I had taken was Calc 1 in high school, so needless to say I was scared. Professor Odish took all of my fears away. He is an incredible lecturer that loves his students. He teaches you exactly what you need to know. Coming out of calc 1 and 2 I got a 97 and a 99 respectively.
His lecture will be so good that you no need to have a textbook with you but he wants us to have one. He is clear and particular at what he is doing. Coming about answering the questions to the students, he is always welcoming. And importantly, his grading system does not contain any +/- for the letter grades. It is always A, B, C and so.
Odish is a highly respected professor who cares if you pass. He gives a lot of homework for each section and has quizzes after every two sections. However, if you don't show up to class you probably won't pass.
Great professor who cares about his students.
Lectures are very clear and easy to understand that I barely use the textbook. Strict and might be intimidating to some but wants you to succeed in class. Strict test grader but it forces you to understand every math concept well in order to do well in class. One of the best ASU Math Professors.
CAL 2. Take him and you will understand! his test are way harder then what you learn in class or homework. He is a very tough grader 1st test is supper hard even though it easy material. Second test is harder then all the testes. TEST are worth 75% . Fail one? consider dropping. if you doing minimum work. DROP B4 it to late. and save your money
One of the best Calc teachers there is. He gives out extra credit for answers in lecture. He's super fun and cares about his students and their success.
Professor Odish is easily one of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures are great, and he cares about his students. MAT 265 is a challenging course that requires work in and outside of the classroom. Taking this course with Odish has helped me substantially develop my math skills.
By far my favorite professor at ASU. He gives amazing lectures, and the types of problems he does on the board are the same ones on the exams and quizzes so pay attention! Make sure to do the homework before you take the quiz though. He gives 11/10 if you get a perfect score. Took him for both MAT265 and 266.
Odish was unintentionally rude. his intentions were in the right place, but he came off the wrong way a lot of the time. Weird interactions with students while attempting to be funny. Exams are incredibly difficult. Fail one, considering dropping. Grading scale is hard, and prides himself in only a few students a class passing with an A. Avoid.
Calc 2 is supposed to be one of the hardest math classes you take as an engineer, but Dr. Odish made it make sense. The material is still hard, but his dynamic, hilarious lectures make you want to be there. His tests are what you expect, and the homework is somewhat heavy, but I wish I could have taken him for calc 3. Take him if you can.
Best professor I've had at ASU. While Odish can be a little grating if you're not used to him, it's clear that he cares about his students and their success. Accordingly, this class is NOT an easy A. Be prepared to consistently work and really strive to understand the material.
Odish is a fantastic lecturer, I did well on homework and the quizzes. The exams, however, are multiple choice so it's an all or nothing deal, so no partial. The first time I took calc I got a B on the first test, this class? An F, in my second time taking calc. I dropped the class after that. If you want to pass the class, take another professor.
One of the best professors at ASU. He makes his lectures engaging and made sure to go over everything multiple times to make sure the entire class understood. The tests are the same questions you get on the quizzes, so make sure to save them.
Dr. Odish(Odeesh) was by far my favorite professor this semester. You can truly feel his passion for helping his students. If you have done well in Calc1(AB), then you should be able to do well in this class. If this is your first experience with calculus, you will succeed if you do the work. Tips: Do the homework, go to class, look at past exams.
He is a literal God of Calculus. The guy is so into what he does and he always makes fun little jokes and does strange things. On top of that he sounds like Gru.
Calculus 2 is a very challenging class and Odish sometimes comes off as condescending. Though his lectures are pinpoint accurate to what is on his quizzes and exams. Be aware his exams make up most of the grade so if you fail one, it is quite hard make it up with other grades.
There's a reason why a lot of students think Odish as the best math professor out there - and that's because he's good at what he does and he cares about his students. His lectures match up with the quizzes and tests so there's no tricks. He gives time for you to copy the notes in class. Webwork is a dread to do, but highly beneficial in the end.
Can come across as rude at times but I find him hilarious. Gives quizzes and homework which don't have a huge effect on the grade due to the weighting of the tests. Pay attention in lecture and he will tip you off as to what will be asked on the quizzes/tests with ** next to the example problems. I will be retaking him for Calc 2
Mr. Odish can come off intimidating and rude at times, but he has a good heart and wishes for his students to pass his class. The textbook is not needed. His lectures are exactly like his quizzes and tests- make sure you attend his review lecture before the tests. His class is very structured and he makes it easy to understand. He's incredible!
Faris Odish has been my favorite teacher on ASU so far and I really love the way he teaches. Heavy lectures with homework that covers exactly what you just learned. Quizzes every other week but are apart of homework grade. So if you stay on top of your homework and study for exams, this is the class to take.
Odish is my favorite professor at ASU. He was very intimidating the first few weeks, but after exam 1 he became very funny. Homework is very time consuming and not really relevant to exams. Study the practice exams and Odish's review lecture and the exams will be easy. He makes you work for your grade, but you will learn calculus.
Professor Odish is an amazing math teacher who has taken the time to research how to teach the material so that it is presented in the best possible way and it shows. He does a lot of problems on the board and talks through each step so you know how to get to the solution. Homework is hard but tests and quizzes are based off the in-class problems.
His classes are very organized and knows the amount content that he must cover. His classes are well paced. His lectures are amazing, and the way he explains concepts is very good. You want to go to his lectures even if attendance isn't mandatory. He uses a lot of examples during his lectures and problems on the tests are of a similar style.
Professor Odish has been one of my favorite professors so far at ASU. He is extremely caring for his students and wants each and every one of his students to succeeded inside and outside of the classroom. Professor Odish has truly prepared me for whats ahead with Engineering and I would love to take his class again!
Odish is the best Calc teacher at ASU. He comes across as strict, but he cares a lot about his students. He wants to help everyone pass and understand Calculus. He is very clear about what will be on tests and quizzes. If you go to class and pay attention, it is easy to get an A on every test.
Odish is a great teacher and in my opinion the best math teacher at ASU. His lectures are good to help you understand calculus. His accent is very easy to understand compared to other teachers in his department. If you have already taken calculus this class will be easy. Odish can be intimidating, but he cares about his students.
Awesome professor, he gives amazing lectures and always revises before exams. The exercises he covers on the lectures are very similar to the ones on the quizzes and the exams. Attendance is not mandatory but if you go you will perform better. He is very strict with his rules, but as long as you follow them you should be fine.
An amazing professor! his lectures are top notch and will always give you time to copy them down so you can go step by step with him. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend going to them as his lectures are similar to the webwork, quizzes, and most importantly exams. As long as you do these things, your're guaranteed a good grade.
Odish can seem rather intimidating at first and harsh when students ask questions. But, he loosens up and he has a great sense of humour. Webwork has unlimited attempts and it's honestly harder than the tests. Don't buy the textbook (unless you learn best that way). Tutoring center was my best friend
It's true that he acts absolutely mean/rude the first weeks and I believe this is to gain respect. But after the first test, he is more friendly and nice. He DOES care for his students and did his best to make this class easier during the COVID-19. Amazing instructor. There's a reason why students take his class, even the 7:30 am (like I did)
Take Odish at whatever cost. This professor goes above and beyond for his students. Even though he is very old fashioned, put in the effort and you will do amazing. Don't second guess it. Webwork has unlimited attempts and TBH is harder than the tests. Quizzes are based directly off of lecture problems, no surprises, and tests are almost similar.
Odish is a great professor who is very caring for his students. He has a great way of teaching calc 1 and 2. Make sure to study his quizzes and notes for exams, he does not use the exam reviews asu provides.
Decent choice for calc2. Not a fan of his teaching style but a better choice compared to the other teachers who teach the course. Make sure to sit in the front to see the chalkboard. Weekly quizzes to keep you on top of the material. There's a lot of self studying you have to do to be successful in his class. Be sure to take the class seriously
Odish is a great prof and explains difficult topics very well so everything is easy to get. Its straightforward and tests are fair. Im a bit upset that he made no changes or exceptions during quarantine because many students had internet problems and he made no exceptions and nothing to help those in difficult situations. Otherwise 10/10
Take professor Odish if you can. He is a great calc 2 professor and I wish I took him for calc 1. He gives you plenty of time to copy notes and explains everything in detail. The homework is done on webwork and is harder than tests and quizzes given. He does exam reviews which help a lot. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Prof. Odish is definitely the best calculus lecturer at ASU. He's precise in how he writes out notes and it makes for a classroom experience where few questions even need to be asked. He cares about his students. I had him during the COVID pandemic. He was fair in how he handled the transition and compensated the final exam weight accordingly.
This professor spoke very broken english, admitted tech incompetence, basically said his office hours were not for math questions despite his class consisting of nothing but his illegible recordings (reducing his work load), and outright told students to drop his class. The class structure seemed very chaotic as well. Easy drop choice.
Do not take this class over the summer! His only way of teaching is through recorded videos that are difficult to understand. The homework and quizzes are formatted completely different than what he talks about in his lectures. At the beginning of this course, he told all of us to drop this class because he is "not good at teaching online classes".
Absolutely awful teacher! I took this class over the summer and found it extremely difficult to learn from his videos. You are pretty much on your own as he discourages you emailing him about any questions. He expect you to know stuff that he doesn't even teach or explain in his videos. It is clear that he did not want to teach this class online.
Absolutely terrible online! His recorded lecture videos are awful you can tell he put no time into making them understandable. His homework, quizzes, textbooks and exams are all completely different. And he never wants to answer questions! He even admitted to not wanting to teach this online course and told us to drop out on the first day!
I took Calc 1 in the summer with Odish the thing that I can say is that professor odish extremely care about his students if the they are willing to learn. Odish's videos express calc 1 Clearly and it builds a solid knowledge for calc 2 . In the begging of the course, he said honestly that taking the class in person in the fall is better for us.
With Odish, You will feel like taking a math class in Eastern Europe in 1860. He is a rude Prof. However, you will learn something from him, I'm sure there are better alternatives.
Took over summer. Basically told the class not to contact him unless it was absolutely necessary. Only time we interacted was test day, and even then he enforced no talking before the exam. Didnt care about the students. But Im sure he enjoyed getting paid to enjoy his summer though.
Odish comes off as rude sometimes, but he's what you call "tough love". I never took calculus before this class and he ensured that students actually knew what was going on when solving problems. There are quizzes every other class but they relate directly to his lectures, same thing with exams. As long as you pay attention, you will pass.
Professor Odish is a very bright and clever person. He is also very considerate of all his students and makes sure none of them leave without understanding his lectures by breaking down the equation to make it very simple for everyone. If you do what he says, I am sure you'll end up with an A in his class.
By far the best professor I have ever had at ASU. He was able to easily convey the proper information, and as long as you had done the test prep material he provided, the tests were a breeze. Bring your textbook everyday for the chance of extra credit. I wish I could have had him for calc III. The material is difficult, but his lectures are great.
I took him for both Calc 1 and 2. Best mathematics lecturer so far. Really passionate about the subject. His exam and quizzes are not hard if you honestly understand the lectures and review material.
Odish is your best choice for a mat265 professor. He is grumpy but most of the time he sounds like this because he needs to speak loudly for his hearing. But he is very serious and passionate about math. He also has his exact lectures for every unit as videos on his site. Only hw is webworks. But do be on top of ur stuff as he isn't forgiving.
Odish is a great professor. You can ask him anything and he will sit down and help you. He is a very easy grader and he gives very easy questions for both tests and homework.
Great Professor.
May seem harsh in the classroom, but he is a great guy. If you speak while he is teaching, there is an 80% chance he'll kick you out for a couple minutes. However, he does have hearing problems, so chatter in the background is very distracting for him. Lectures are great, and you have access to his website which has all of his lectures recorded.
The teacher is a bit cranky and sometimes sends you out of class for no good reason. But he teaches very good and the questions discussed in class are the same that appear in the test.
A great choice for Calc-I. Professor Odish basically gives you all the questions that will come in the exam during lectures. So attendd lectures, take notes, and you will be set.
Odish's class is ridiculously easy, so much so that you can get an A if you pay attention while doing tests and quizzes. BUT do not take Odish's class ever! He has an incomprehensible method for cutting marks and is not at all accommodating, and can be extremely rude and disrespectful. People say he's the best, but I'm never taking his class again.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. This is one of those occasions where you just have to trust. Just trust. Youre gonna be crying towards the end of the semester because of this man, if you even make it to the end of the semester.
Odish will seem like a tough professor initially, but after a few lectures, you'll start to appreciate him. He explains the tough concepts of Calculus in order to make it easier for you, and will sometimes do interesting stunts to get your attention. Just pay attention to him and do the homework, and you should pass the class.
Professor Odish is very knowledgeable about the subject he teaches and he gets the information across effectively. He will get nicer as the semester goes on, but will be really tough for one-two months until the class is fully settled in. The teaching style starts off rough but gets easier to follow and tutoring centers help a lot, use them!
Odish is a great professor. He always gets straight to the point with his lectures; so, it's best to pay attention first, then take notes, especially if it's your first time taking calc. His class is graded solely on homework, weekly in-class quizzes, and tests.
Professor Odish can be very intimidating at the beginning of the semester, but after the first exam he is hilarious. His lectures are very helpful. Be prepared to work for your grade in the class. The tests closely resemble problems completed in class.
Professor Odish is a solid choice. He can seem a bit intimidating at first, but overall he explains the topics well. I will be taking him again for MAT266.
Great class. Professor Odish is very passionate about his field, and his lectures cover the material well and are really easy to understand. The homework was online, and you can submit as many answers as you want before the due date without penalty. There's a quiz about every week, but if you did the homework you'll do well on the quizzes.
I was a bit nervous going into calc 2 for engineers because I heard it's a difficult class. I am glad I chose Odish for this class. He is a cheerful professor who really cares for his students. If you pay attention in class and practice the review questions he gives you, you will have no problem in the class. I highly recommend taking him for Calc.
Odish is a solid professor that will make sure you understand the material before you leave his lecture. He is not easy, but he prepares your future classes. He is not easily accessible outside of class (due to the nature of the class and the sheer amount of students he has, I assume) but he is always willing to help whenever and wherever he can.
Took Calc 1 & 2 with him and got As in both classes. Great professor and teaches with passion. His exams and quizzes are reasonable. The webwork HW was lengthy but good practice and the exam was easier than webwork assignments. Def would take again! Attendance was not mandatory but there were quizzes in class.
Professor Odish was excellent, just show up to class, pay attention, do the homework, study and you will be just fine. Test reviews are very helpful and cover mostly everything similar to the test, no surprises. It might be more work than other math classes, but Its 100% worth taking his class as you will understand more for the future.
Professor Odish has an excellent way of catching the classes attention. I always found it easy to pay attention in class because I never knew what was gonna happen next, from kicking people out of class to dramatic scenes where he pretends to call the president, he will make sure you're paying attention. He cares about his students, but hes scary.
I took Prof Odish and quite honestly, he is a phenomenal teacher. He has online posted lectures and reviews for every test which are super helpful. There is usually one quiz every week on the topics covered in class and they really help with prep for the tests. You truly get what you put into the class. Definitely a solid choice for calc one!
Good Class. Easy A .
I would take him again but only because the quizzes are so similar to the tests. I wasn't a fan of how often we had quizzes, most of the time it was once/twice a week. Homework is standard for all MAT265 courses at ASU so that wasn't a big deal. He is kinda scary but don't talk in class and you'll be good.
Not A terrible professor for my first semester at ASU. I have never taken calc before and this was my first teacher in that subject. We had quizzes every Friday and 2-4 homework assignments that made no sense every week. Exams make up a lot of your grade. Decent lecturer but teaches as you should already know the subject. NO EXTRA CREDIT.
Stern and explains the subject more clearly rather than purely relying on the textbook. Expect to be chewed out automatically if you have an attitude or are disrespectful (you wont survive). Overall, a great respectable teacher.
Professor Odish is a great professor for MAT265. His lectures are straightforward and would give you everything you need for the tests. Every week there is a quiz and the semester includes 3 tests plus the final exam. There is a lot of homework as well so you need to be good at time management. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Odish is a fantastic teacher and MAT266 is one of the most difficult math classes engineers will take. He pays very careful attention to things that the class is struggling with and tries to absolve them. Asking questions can be a little difficult because he is hard of hearing. Prepare for tests, don't be like me and take them while feverish.
He's a great lecturer, but he obviously has God complex of sorts and has no online lecture alternatives if you're sick. Just show up and study.
Odish is not a bad lecturer for what is on the tests and quizzes but the homework is significantly more difficult than what is learned in the lectures. It is almost impossible to complete the homework without looking up how to do the problems online.
LOVE THIS GUY! Except for the time he ate a student's pet outside Discovery Hall....kinda weird but alright. : ) Also Odish is such a cutie! :3 I wanna pinch his wittle cheeks!!!!
He moves very quickly and is not very open to questions. I did find reading the book outside of class was very helpful to fully understanding the topic. His homework due dates were weird. He doesn’t use canvas and only his website so you have to check his website for due dates. But his teaching style was okay and he went over things pretty well.
Rude. I did not catch anything from him since we started. Be prepared to teach yourself. Does not have a canvas, so the only way to check your grade after each exam. His website does not work. Kicked me once from the class because I did not bring a copy of the material which was available online. Sometimes, He ignores questions on purpose.
Odish's lectures are EXCELLENT. He explains everything really well. Exams and quizzes are on exactly what he teaches you in class, no surprises. His in class exam reviews are helpful and thorough. His style doesn't work for everyone, but it did for me. He will be 100% honest with you. If you don't ask stupid questions, he won't call you out.
Definitely a tough professor, but as long as you pay attention during lectures and do your homework and quizzes, you can pass the class. He's definitely harder in the beginning of the semester to weed out students that don't care as much, but after spring break he definitely softens up
Odish is a great professor who understands exactly what he teaches. He'll tout his 35 years of teaching at ASU, but you can tell that he has utilized those 35 years to perfect his teaching style. Pay attention during lectures, stay on top of the online homework, and you'll be just fine. A bit harsh at times, but know that he really does care.
Calc is not my strong suit but Odish made it very easy to understand. I failed calc last semester but Odish's teaching style helped me to actually understand the material. Funny guy, truly cares about you but is not easily reachable outside of class, you can't email him with questions unless you have a doctors note.
266 is a challenging class, but professor Odish is great at it and would try his best for you to understand. He keeps your attention while giving the lectures and provides good examples. Take notes during the class and study with them. Quizzes are pretty concise and once a week, forcing you to study and prepare for the exams early.
Odish is quite the character. If you really want to focus and learn and are willing to put in the effort required to, this class will be a tough but rewarding experience. If you pay attention he literally gives away quiz and test questions every lecture. He tests/quizzes on exactly what he teaches and I mean EXACTLY. Your notes will be your friend.
Calc 2 is a hard course, but Odish makes sure you understand the material clearly. He takes time explaining concepts and does detailed reviews before exams. The homework is tricky and challenging, but helps you master the content. Take notes and study them, the quizzes and exams come directly from what is taught in class.
Odish is a great professor and teaches with passion. He was able to explain difficult topics very clearly. There usually is a quiz every week on the topics covered in class and they help with prep for the tests. Attending class regularly and taking notes will help you get an easy A.
Took him for calc 1 and now again for calc 2 and was not disappointed. Great teaching style and if you pay attention and put in effort, you can succeed in his class without a doubt. He is funny but also takes the education of every student very seriously. He genuinely cares that everyone understands everything that he teaches and passes the class.
Odish is a very respected and knowledgeable professor. He really cares about students and his teaching methods are some of the best I have seen (that is why I chose him for calc 1 and 2). If you are serious, you will do well in the course as doing homework regularly, attending classes, and revising notes (important) are more than enough to succeed.
Professor Odish has been the best professor I have had thus far at ASU. His lectures correlate directly to the test material, and he outlines exactly how he would like you to answer his questions in order to ensure the most possible credit secured. His lectures are very thorough and cover everything you need to pass the class, so do not skip them.
This is my second degree so I've had a lot of professors. Odish is probably the best one I've ever had as far as teaching the material goes. He is very strict and you will need to go to class every day to succeed. There are easier professors, but if you want to learn the material well take Odish.
Odish is a good professor and he knows it. Sure maybe he has a bit of an ego, but he really does care about his students and provides them with everything they need to succeed with hard work. He is very (almost too much) strict at the beginning of the semester, but everyone respects him, and he lightens up toward the end. Take him if you can.
The lectures were amazing and inspirational thanks to professor odish.
He's a very stuck up professor and hard to deal with at times but he's a very good math teacher. The workload he gives is very fair and if you actually put in time and take his class seriously then you will pass.
Odish was the best math teacher I have ever had in terms of understanding the content. He care for his students and truly wants everyone to succeed. That being said Calc is definitely a hard class and he does not hand out good grades. If you put in the work he is the best professor you can ask for but he is hard on his students.
Odish is a very good math teacher and really cares about accurately teaching the material. If you truly want to understand calculus, take him. He is very strict at the beginning of the semester but he then lightens up. Be prepared to work and you will get a good grade. He gives out really good reviews before each exam. If he's available, take him!
He's decent at teaching, not bad but nothing out of the ordinary. I did not appreciate how rude and condescending he was to students. Class difficulty is exaggerated, it's really not that hard to do well in this class. Overall, if he fits your schedule, take him. If not, there are tons of other professors who are better in my opinion.
Professor Odish is a true expert at his job. Lectures are engaging and he tells you exactly what problems will be on the exams. He is very strict and straightforward, he has clear expectations when it comes to content and he'll always tell you the truth as it is. Just make sure you show up to class, take notes, and listen to what he has to say.
I found him to be very condescending towards students in the way that he addressed them. I faced a medical issue during the semester and received documentation from the dean of students office allowing me to take an exam at a later date, but he rejected it until the administration got involved. Then, he told me he was making it much harder.
Professor Odish teaches well in class, but really that's all he has going for him. He responds to emails with curt, unhelpful one-liners. He doesn't really offer extra credit and has quizzes worth 12.5% of the grade every week. But he has super helpful notes online for most chapters which is primarily where I studied, and his lectures are great.
He taught the material fine, but he was so condescending towards students. I stopped going to office hours after he was super rude during them. If you understand the material after he teaches it the first time you're fine. But if you don't, you are kind of screwed because he doesn't offer any other help.
He's a great professor. Definitely somewhat rude, but hes very dedicated and a decent person. Be prepared for weekly quizzes, and tests can be taken care of with in class reviews for them and his notes. His lectures were great!
The lectures were clear and helpful, but the exams were difficult since there were multiple choice questions worth a lot of points (and if you got it wrong, it was worth a zero). The reviews were helpful, but they didn't cover everything. Also, you could never message him for anything, so if you needed homework help, you got it from someone else :/
took him bc I read all the good reviews here. big mistake. if u alrdy know calc 1 and show every miniscule step take him. He takes an absurd amount of points off tests for not including the most obscure things I ended up failing every exam even tho I know calc 1 just fine. Hes rude, condescending. Better off taking heckman or vandesande (best imo)
Odish is a solid Professor. He can be a bit critical answering questions but he explains topics pretty well and gives students a heads up on material they should know for the quizzes or test. Attendance is not mandatory, but he gives weekly quizzes that you'll want to show up for. Overall, he won't baby you, but do the work and you'll pass.
Professor Odish's teaching style was incredibly helpful in my understanding of tough concepts in calc. He runs the class very old-school with minimal online resources/grades. He always emphasizes the importance of certain concepts during lectures, which proved to be very helpful in deciding what to prioritize when studying on my own.
Professor Odis was amazing. His lectures aren't just thorough but also very interesting. Even with hard material and under a lot of time pressure he was able to stuff a lot of knowledge into this thick skull of mine. He gives clear instruction and information on what he looks for in a student in an exam or a quiz which makes reviewing a lot easier.
I studied MAT265 and MAT266 with Professor Odish. The Lectures are amazing and his way of teaching makes the topics easier to understand. Also, He gives many quizzes to prepare you for the exams which really helpful.
This class is easy as long as you follow what the professor says, you don't have to go to class since all of his lecture videos are online, but you do need to go to class for quizzes which are like 15% of your grade.
Professor can be strict at times but it is for the greater good of the students. The professor doesn't have the (A-, A+) criteria so anything 90+ is A. There are weekly quizzes and 5 tests throughout the semester including mastery test. The class is fairly easy if attended regularly. Professor also keeps questions from quizzes on the tests.
Professor Odish is the best math teacher I ever had .If you want to succeed in his class try to answer every question he ask during lecture I got tons of extra credit because of that.
Thick accent and somewhat hard to understand. He grades quickly, but tough and doesn't use technology like Canvas. Lectures are difficult, however the homework is significantly harder than the material covered in class. The tests are difficult too, but fairly graded. He's somewhat rude, or at the very least incredibly tough on his students.
I would be honest with yall: Prof Odish is one of the BEST math profs I ever had. Yes, his class is tough, and many students don't like him for real BUT there are also a lot of other students who like him. Lectures are straightforward and follow traditional ways of teaching. Listen, respect, and study. He's a memorable professor with a huge passion
Professor Odish is really, really good at what he does. I can firmly say that I know everything to be known in calc 1. He can come out to be a little rude or arrogant, but I would take that over a kind professor who can barely explain concepts.
Rudest professor I've ever had. Asking a kid next to you what is on the board because you can't see, you WILL be kicked out of class. His lectures are understandable, but I was too afraid of him to get the help I could have used. If you send him "useless emails" you will and I quote "be sent to his office and deducted points from your grade".
Odish did not have a clear means of communication. Instead of pushing back the homework for the topics that he hasn't gone over, he keeps the due date, and then ridicules the few students that could figure out the problems for not waiting. He is also pretty biased, and gave extra credit only to his favorite students.
I took Professor Odish for MAT265 and MAT266 and I have to say, he makes difficult subjects like Calculus very easy. His lectures are mandatory if you really want to understand calculus as his class notes make it easy to understand each new topic. Homework/exams are exactly like his in class examples so there are no curve balls. Would def recommend
Professor Odish's class is challenging but rewarding. His lectures are engaging and follow the textbook closely. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for review and practice. Attend classes, do the work, and you'll do well.
Professor Odish did not make time for any questions and when he rarely did, his answer was rushed. When you ask for clarifications, he does not address them. He did NOT HAVE OFFICE HOURS. There is no time to take notes, so he asks you to take a picture of the board. My lecture's average was 60%. I had spend hours in the tutoring center.
This professor is rude. He makes fun of students for being late or kicks out students who even speak a little. Otherwise, the grading and tests are pretty standard. He does not deserve a good rating for teaching Calc 1 since he does not teacher any better than online resources like khanacademy. The least he can do is be nice.
