She lectures from power points and she doesn't go over any problems on the board it's all verbal explanations. No practice in class and tests have nothing to do with the lecture or hw :/she gives extra credit equal to about 10% of total grade and grades on a 15 point scale (85-100=A). Definitely do not recommend if first time learning physics!
This professor does not teach step by step at all. If you just want to pass physics with a C then take her. If you plan on using physics or have any interest in learning in then do not take her. Overall, she seems really disorganized and is VERY unclear about what she expects her students to know. Seriously, you'll regret taking her.
Would I take this class again....? Noooooooooooooooooooooope.
She's a great professor and makes class interesting. She's very organized, with posted lecture notes. She is very clear telling you what she wants and has great examples. There are 5 quizzes & a final, with lots of extra credit to boost your score.
good class, interesting stuff
She is the best physics teacher in Moorpark college
Sweetest teacher ever! Best astronomy teacher! She's so passionate about the subject, it's great. She makes lectures interesting. Take astronomy lab and lecture. Do yourself a favor and take her class, you won't regret it. Need book for homework only, I didn't actually read it.
She was amazing! I took her summer course and she was so helpful! She is very knowledgable and cares about her students! She offers extra credit and we had 5 tests and we played jeopardy games to review. Amazing!
Most interesting class I've ever taken at moorpark. Her tests are kind of difficult but as long as you read the book and do the homework before, you'll be fine. She also has an amazing grading curve, and offers extra credit. I took the 4 week course during the summer and got an A pretty easily.
She teaches this class as if everyone in the class has already taken some physics before. She goes very quickly and just talks. I'm more of a visual leanrer so it was terrible.
Dr. Morales is one of the best instructors I've had at Moorpark. I'm an art and anthro major, and I haven't taken a physics course since high school so I was worried I'd struggle in class. But she is very clear on what is expected of her students, and she puts concepts into real life, relatable terms. Very passionate instructor, HIGHLY recommended
I liked that she was so strict with the lab reports, I really learned a lot about the process through her. She's not amazing at explaining concepts, and I've heard her lectures aren't very helpful. The class, regardless of professor, is hard, and if you go to class, do the work, read the book, and practice the problems, you will get a C or higher.
Alright class, but very difficult.
Easily the nicest/friendliest professor I've ever had. Dr. Morales realizes that astronomy can be a tough subject for some, so she tries her best to explain the topics in ways we can understand. All the lecture notes are online, so if you miss a class you have nothing to worry about.
I love dr morales! She is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. She is the sweetest person and truly cares about the students. Science is not my strong suit at all but I was able to get an A in this class because she explains things as well and is always there to help if you need it.
One of the smartest and most energetic professors at Moorpark. Lecture can be confusing if you don't look at homework problems beforehand, but you can always go to her office hours if you want to understand something clearer; she is extremely helpful and will show you WHY not just HOW. Going to her office brought me up from a C to an A.
Dr. Morales is such an amazing and inspirational person, and she always has a positive attitude. You definitely have to work for your grade, she won't just hand you an A. I also took Lab with her as well and the class was easy, but the final seemed much harder than anything we had done in class. Overall, she's a great professor.
Love this professor! The subject can be challenging (especially for exchange students) but she simplifies it and makes it understandable. Love her personality; she's funny, inspirational and very helpful. There are 5 quizzes and a final. The final comes from the quizzes. I did bad in two quizzes, but ended up with an A.
Awesome professor! Physics is not an easy class, but if you go to lecture, and do the work, you will be pleasantly surprised. She takes the time to explain things in class as much as people need. She makes you work for your grade. The grading scale is generous. Some exams are multiple choice and some worked problems. I got an A and learned a lot.
Brilliant woman but a better scientist than teacher only throws out formulas, gives examples using definition of formula says #s don't matter but will test w/#. wont do examples relative to test qs very unclear on test, wording is confusing. in lecture when asked to clarify just restates the same thing. you leave class more confused than anything.
This is a physics class and it's supposed to be challenging but her grading on tests and labs are outrageous. Small mistakes cost you a lot in this class and her lectures are extremely long and not engaging. She knows what she's doing she just doesn't care much if the students can follow along. Gotta take her next semester too *sigh*
Nice person, great scientist, horrible teacher. She does try hard to teach the class and has a great enthusiastic in this field. But her ways of teaching is not very effective. Would not recommend if you have never taken a physics class before.
tough subject, but her lectures are very useful. She will test you on material covered in class, so coming to class is important.
I didn't know I liked physics until I took this class. Dr. Morales is awesome and very approachable.
I'm a returning student with a bachelors but need to take a few prerequisite courses for my major. Dr. Morales is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is concerned with your learning and makes the class enjoyable.
Bring a sweater because for the Astro Lab, we went to the telescope almost every week and it gets cold and windy. The first half of the lab is worksheets and the second part of the lab is going out to the telescopes. I learned a lot about the stars and the night sky.
She is an absolute sweetheart! Show up and try, ask questions you'll be totally fine. Do the extra credit! Worth tons. She's the best!
Very inspiring teacher. I am pursuing a STEM major after the physics 10A course I took with her. The first few weeks, the material is hard, but stick with the work and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Great teacher, friendly and patient. The subject is challenging, time consuming. Must attend class to get questions cleared. Book not used in class, only for practice problems and homework. 4 quizzes + final, numerical and concept questions. 4 graded homeworks too, extra credit. Fun class. would take again.
You will learn more on youtube than with her. students dont ask questions because they are afraid. runs through slides quickly to leave before class ends and all examples are cartoons. no actual learning is involved because she makes things more complicated than they actually are. should take a different approach to teaching.
Love her patience and willingness to work with students. I took her Phys 20A Mechanics class. Did ok on the exams by reviewing her class examples, which she literally puts on exams. Gives credit for homework and there's extra credit! Got an A.
Professor Morales honestly tries. But the notes and slides always always have an error. Either it's conceptual or mathematical. Extra credit is offered but it shouldn't have to come to that if Morales just made physical representations of the examples. Rather than assume everyone in the class understands.
Awesome teacher! Challenges you. Glad lecture notes are posted.
Moorpark needs to review this professor's approach to teaching. Doesnt want to engage in expanding her students knowledge or having them understand concepts. Prepare to teach mechanics to yourself. Slides do not help or have steps to get answer. The rating here is to high refer to current or previous students for better understanding of prof M.
Professor Morales is very friendly. She's young and acts very relatable. She's very good at explaining physics, and I loved every one of her lectures. The class I took was 4 hours once a week which seems long and horrible, but she made it fun and I never noticed how long the class was. Tests were multiple choice/free answer. She's easy to talk to.
If you struggle with science and math and are forced to take an Astronomy class, this is the class for you. Seriously, if you have to rearrange your entire schedule in order to take this class, do it.
I'm not a harsh judger but really bad professor. Thought she'd be good bc she had a good rating but shes a bad professor. Lectures are unclear, provides online access to lectures but they don't help much bc her slides are unclear & have stupid symbols instead of words. Skips her office hours a bunch. Doesn't explain well, very vague. Brags a lot.
Best professor i've ever had. Took her for Astro lecture & Lab and got an A in both. Lets you use a cheat sheet for the tests in the lecture. All questions are lecture based; DON'T waste your money on the book! She's very compassionate and is always willing to explain, very straightforward and tells cute jokes from time to time
Tests were very difficult but reasonable for physics. Good professor overall.
The professor is highly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about subject. The course is very fast paced.
Awesome teacher. Really has great understanding for subject. Love the way the class is set up.
Really cares about the students. Always helps in class, as well as office hours. Subject is hard, but she tries to make it as simple as possible. There is not a better Physics instructor at Moorpark college. Dr. Morales brings a complicated course down to the level that all students can understand. If given another chance, I will take her again.
I loved this teacher. She is always up beat, positive, and enthusiastic. She's also very down to earth and approachable, not to mention very intelligent! One of the best at Moorpark. Would take another class with her. I highly recommend her!
Caring, understanding and wants everyone to pass. She gives a quiz every week and there are 5 tests and a final. Before each test the chapter homework is due. Test is 30 pts and homework is 15. Drops lowest test. Most are multiple choice. Study notes and chapter homework and you'll be more than okay. Show up, that's all. I got an A because I tried
Warning dont take her shes horrible at teaching astronomy. She literally doesnt know how to explain anything astronomical.
Second time I've taken Prof. Morales. Again a good teacher. Took the 4 hour lecture again which can get boring/mindless, but she keeps the lectures exciting. Tests were moderately difficult, but as long as you study you should be fine. Doing the homework without looking up the answers helps prepare for the tests very well. Overall a fun professor.
Ms. Morales can be nice at times, but she can also be annoyed easily. This lab class was not too difficult tho. Check over your worksheets with other groups to make sure you have answers correct. Wksts are easy, and observations at the lab aren't bad. We skip observations at times when it is too cloudy. If you have to take her, you're fine.
Having an Astronomer as an Astronomy teacher is an honor. Great lectures, very knowledgeable.
My first time taking physics and don't regret it. Dr. Morales explains things well, specially if you raise your hand. There is lots of topics to cover, so you can't fall behind with homework.
The best professor! We more like her.
Great lectures. Homework is online.
Dont take her she is not a good lecturer
I would not take her because I cant understand her accent and she can not explain any of the physics to the class
Love her lectures! She is very engaging, and friendly to all students, making a hard subject like physics feel easy. Definitely take her again.
We need more like her!
Weekly homework and quizzes, easy enough but often contained errors making it impossible to get full credit. I work at an Aerospace engineering firm and when needing help i would ask others with astronomy PHD's in my office, they verified that often, her questions are vague and misleading. Students shouldn't have to proofread the prof. Tests......
Dr. Morales is a great professor. She's funny and understanding. Be careful when taking the Astro M01 course because the entire course is graded based on tests due to the lack of extra credit and homework. As for the rest of her courses that she teaches; I can not tell you because I have not taken them. If you study for the tests you will pass.
Took this online, never spoke to the teacher, hardly ever heard from her, never bought the textbook, just looked up answers online and got an A, she misspells words in her quiz's all the time and doesn't know how to correctly input EC. Quiz every week, test every section. Easy A but you don't actually learn, Maybe it's better as an in person class
She lets u work in groups 4 the labs and they count as a good chunk of your grade. Pair up with good students. Use them 2 study for mid term & final. Her tests r hard, worded tricky. Wintertime outdoor labs are often canceled due to bad weather so those classes r only 1.5 hours instead of 3 (most of ours were cut short). I studied hard & got an A.
Wonderful professor. Took her for my first physics class and was very happy. Physics does not come easy to me but I found studying the notes and the homework very hepful as that is where most of the test questions come from. Also, the class was curved at the end!!
Dont take any classes with this teacher. She doesnt explain anything to where its understandable by students like myself.
Have taken 3 classes with her and would take more if I could
Morales lectures by reading off slides and often I found her glancing over important exam info because she clicks through them quickly. You need to put in your own time and effort outside the classroom to pull the A. Overall, she is an inspiring figure, given her accomplishments, and will help you overcome personal hurdles to succeed.
I was afraid of physics, struggled at first, but Dr. Morales was super helpful in breaking stuff down, so I could do my homework. She not only taught physics, but how to study for physics.
Wonderful professor. Really cares about students. Taking phys 20A with Dr. Morales in the fall :)
This being the second class taken with instructor, highly recommend and would take another class with. Tests could be harder, I didn't have to study and got an A
An amazing professor. Changed my life. I transferred to Long Beach State last year as an electrical engineer candidate. I was better prepared than the majority of the students in my classes. This class was not easy but getting an A is possible.
Prof Morales was one of my fav. I took her class from intro M10A, Phys 20A and 20B. I got A's in each class. I though physics would be difficult but looking back it was so easy with Morales. Her class is focused 100 percent on attendance, Do the homework (use online solutions), and tests! Do HW, Do the E.C., ask quest. and she curves thankfully
My confidence in physics sky-rocketed after taking her class. Dr. Morales has high standards. She drops the lowest exam score. Doing extra problems from the book pays off. Attend class and do the extra credit. Got an A.
Get Chegg solutions for this class. She only assigns about 5 problems per chapter from the book & doesn't provide you with the answers to check your work. First of all, that is not enough practice and second of all, even if you do more problems you can't check check your answers for a lot of the problems so idk how you know you're doing it right.
I transferred to USC after taking her Astronomy and Physics courses. I can see how her high standards pay off. She knows her stuff. I am very proud to have had her as a teacher.
Dr. Morales covers a wide range of material. She understands that it is a lot, so her grading curve is very generous and allows a cheat sheet for in-class quizzes. She cares about her field and is always willing to answer questions. I had to miss a couple of classes due to sport activities and still got an A. Just do your work and you'll be fine.
I literally love her so much! She is so generous with grading!! Please don't miss out on a solid opportunity to take this professor.
Dr. Morales is a unique combination of caring and knowledgeable. She's truly interested in students learning the material. I plan to take more classes with her!
Dr. Morales is the real deal. She's an astrophysicist who works for NASA at JPL. Lectures are good. Four graded homework assignments and a ten point extra credit assignment make this class an easy A if you take it seriously and don't procrastinate. First test might be harder than you expect.
Goes through slides quickly sometimes, but she will definitely go back if you ask for clarification on something. When on a time crunch though, she does go a lot faster. Sometimes gets busy during office hours, plan ahead to meet with her if help is needed. Graded on quizzes, HW, and Final. Good extra cred available. Material IS hard though.
Dr. Morales is super inspiring and a fantastic professor. She knows what shes talking about. Additionally, she offered two (fun) extra credit options and drops your lowest test score. I did not take her for the astronomy lab and I sincerely regret it. She is the best astronomy professor I would recommend her to anyone. She cares and is funny.
Professor Morales is a prime example of how science professors should strive to be like. This was my third time taking Physics 1, and it was like night and day compared to my past experiences. She made the subject enjoyable, understandable and easy to digest. She truly cares about her students and wants them to learn and pass. Highly recommend!
She can't explain concepts AT ALL. it's clear that she is smart, knows her stuff, and works for NASA, but her slides are outdated, she can't communicate simple ideas well, and LOTS of tests. Would not recommend
Outstanding professor! Love her enthusiasm and her ability to discuss complex ideas. I have a newly found respect for physics. Very inspiring.
Not a good lecturer. Skips through powerpoint slides way too fast, regardless if the class is picking up the material or not. Does not do enough problem sets in class.
Excellent Professor! Condenses down material that can be overwhelming to what is important. Doing examples from the book is a must. Prof. Morales is very good at addressing questions during class time, so ask questions and you'll be fine. Highly recommend.
Study the powerpoints and homework questions to do well on exams. She drops your lowest score and offers extra credit. Lectures are kind of boring, caring teacher and interesting class.
Awesome teacher. Wish there were more like her. She is well organized and very inspirational. Very engaging class.
Morales is great person, but not so great lecturer. Concepts are difficult and she doesn't explain them very well. Majority of class is confused. Final and exams were very difficult. Need to work very hard to pass the class. She is, however, pretty generous with grading.
Dr. Morales was a great teacher who really knew what she was talking about. Pay attention in class and study the examples done in class. 4 quizzes and homework assignments, checkpoints, and a final. It's an easy A as long as you understand the topics covered. The final was a bit difficult though.
One of my favorite professors! She knows her subject completely, and is able to answer questions in creative, informative ways. She wants her students to pass, and is very accommodating with special education students. Available outside class. You'll get good grades if you study. If not, don't hold your breath.
Professor Morales is one of the best professors I've ever had and I recommend her class to anyone who is interested in taking physics for the first time. Her tests are a bit challenging but she is available during office hours to explain things clearly. She also offers a generous amount of extra credit. Don't miss out on taking her class!
Take her class if you can, but you won't learn much. Homework assignment every week and the occasional online quiz. All the answers can be found online, and quizzes can be retaken. She even posted the final to take online, which were based off the quizzes.
I took her online class and she hardly kept in contact over canvas or email. Only three types of work for the whole semester (homework, group work, and quizzes. The homework is ALL on Quizlet - look up graysongoms ;). If you're looking for an easy A, you found it. However, if you want to actually learn something you might want to look elsewhere.
The textbook is free and online and she provides you with is. There is a lot of reading to be done but if you do it and take notes, you'll easily pass with a high grade. The HW assignments are posted as quizzes and you get 3 chances to do it and she takes the highest score. This class was super cool, it's all so interesting.
wow! She is honestly such an over-qualified and intelligent professor. Because she works at NASA, she was able to give us lots of extra info in her lectures and is obviously very passionate about the material. If you ever need help, go to office hours bc she is genuinely so nice and helpful. 10/10 would recommend plus astro is so interesting!!
Professor Morales assigns weekly homework quizzes (3 attempts), 6 easy group assignments, a few quizzes (lowest grade dropped), and a final based on all the homework and quizzes. She is accessible by email and responds timely. This is an easy A class. I recommend taking Professor Morales.
Ms. Morales is such a sweet professor. I don't remember the class being too tough. She was very nice. As long as you do the work, you should pass. Our classes were held in a astronomy building in which the ceiling was the "whiteboard." Cool! She even invited me and my classmate to her laboratory in San Diego to see what she does. Really wonderful.
Good Professor to take if you don't want to take a physical science like Chemistry or Environmental Sci. She has lectures you need to attend so you are not dropped from the class and lets you use cheat sheets for tests. Online homework as well. Nothing too difficult tho. You can get a C with 55% or B with 70%. No reason not to pass the class.
Easy A. Textbook provided online and you get multiple chances to retake homework, quizzes, and tests.
Two lectures a week, with homework being due for each chapter (1/2 per week). She allows late homework for up to a week. All homework/quizzes were through McGraw Hill. My biggest complaint was that all quizzes had no partial credit and she didn't have time to grade the one that was supposed to be partial credit. Still, she's a kind professor.
You have 5 quizzes and a final that makes up your grade but she does give homework credit in which most of the hw relates to the exam. This class is a grind and a half but she is willing to help.
When I took physics with Dr. Morales the class was online due to the pandemic. She is a caring professor and extremely smart and knowledgable on the field of physics/astronomy. I am a science major and this class was hardest class I have ever taken. I found her exams difficult so I recommend taking her class but allow lots of time for studying!
Physics is hard but she really wants everyone to end with a good grade. She responds to email pretty fast, and she really cares about her students. most of the classes are just doing notes but its not too bad. There were a few quizzes and the final was optional.
Professor Morales herself was a good teacher but physics in general is a difficult subject. No assignments so your grade is based solely on tests. Occasionally did "checkpoint" in class for 2 points but very rarely. She was great at further explaining the material if asked and graded tests to give you the most points possible.
Morales is super sweet and very knowledgable, but teaches way too fast/vague in lectures. DO THE RECOMMENDED TEXTBOOK PROBS AS TEST PREP. She lets you skip the final if you are comfortable with your grade. Zero assignments just quizzes, checkpoint quizzes, and exams, which made it a bit scary but checkpoint quizzes are directly from textbook Q's.
Three chapters covered with four assignments per chapter over the span of two weeks. Easy course, provides a free textbook, powerpoints, and prerecorded zoom lessons going in depth. Incredibly easy course, if you put the time into it! Dr. Morales is very kind, and incredibly helpful :).
Professor Morales is amazing. She doesn't give too much homework. You are only really graded by two quizzes a week and a group assignment like every other week. She gives you an option for the final to either take a 100-question test or make a video presentation on an important astronomer. I did the video and got 102/100 easy. She's awesome.
Good professor to take for a physical science but honestly didnt learn much and the group projects online were the only hardest part about this class as they were scuffed and people didnt work together... while they also affected so much of ur grade. I barely got an A.
this class was easy mainly because we were in a group the whole semester and everyone in my group helped each other out. quizzes didn't really align with the textbook material. every week was a quiz and discussion board. the discussions are really easy. the final is either an exam or a video project. no extra credit.
I took AST M01 this summer, easy, and I earned an A by doing the weekly assignments and quizzes. There is a group assignment each week with 2 peers to work on a worksheet together and then turn it in individually it takes approximately 10-15 minutes. I recommend her class over and over again. I would definitely take another class with Dr. Morales.
Take this course over the summer online and with this teacher, she is amazing! The course material is so interesting and fun to learn, it's an easy 6-week course. The professor is available if you have questions and answers your emails quickly.
Take online over the summer! The videos are short so don't worry about that, learning about the stars and our universe is so interesting. I highly recommend the class and the teacher. You have a couple of quizzes, group projects that don't take long at all, and a discussion board every week, that's it. If you have questions, she responds quickly.
Good class group assignments were a little tough
Professor is nice and class was easy. Group projects were a little tough but still if you put in the effort you will pass with an A. Super easy other than that.
Doctor Suarez was excellent and I leave the high difficulty rating because her class compared to other physical science is a pretty challenging one. I feel that her recorded lectures did help more than reading straight from the textbook. Keep in mind 20-30 pages to read each week, 20 question checkpoints each week but easy activities and discussion
Dr. Morales was a great professor who constantly gave feedback. Work load is consistent, but if you keep up with the work it's very manageable. Quizzes/tests were related to class material.
She's super nice, the class is pretty easy, and you get group assignments but they are easy enough to do alone, if you watch the lecture videos you'll be fine.
If you are taking intro to astronomy just for the credits don't take this professor she assigns way more work than there should be for an introductory course. The group projects were fairly straightforward as long as your group is helpful. The quizzes were sometimes manageable. Way too much reading involved
Great professor. Class is easy to follow with assigned readings and quizzes. There are group projects which is a little awkward for a online class. She had a no late penalty policy towards the end of the class. For the final you can either take the culmulative exam or do a simple presentation on a astronomer. She is very understanding and helpful!
