Great teacher,has a lot to offer and grades very fair

Finally a teacher that is not afraid to teach what really matters. A teacher with something to offer the world. Be ready to learn. Those who can.. teach!!

Very good teacher. He gives you the essays before the test, and all you do is have to prepare it. He even goes over what he wants you to write on the test the week before. Great guy, very liberal views. Not afraid to say whats on his mind.

Can be confrotational. Doesn't encourage alternate viewpoints and is not afraid to challenge you. Tests are essays, possibly take home. Not difficult if you take good notes. Good interpretations of readings. Doesn't like to answer questions, though.

This professor had a profound impact on my life and my understanding of the political forces in America during a time of unparalleled social transition (early 70's). My mother had him as a professor, I had him, and my daughter had him.

farrel is the best teacher i've ever had.

He gives you all essay questions before the test so you can be prepared. Overall nice guy. Not too hard, but you need to be able to write.

Very left winged. You have to get past his extreme views. Otherwise I really learned a lot in this class. He made Philosophy very interesting.

So he's a socialist- Big deal! He loves diversity and intelligent argument! If everyone participates and exchanges their thoughts, the class turns into a literal Political Party! Think, participate, LAUGH! If ya take yourself seriously, you'll have a bad time. Lighten up and you'll learn somethin'.

If you're lazy, don't take this class! To get an A in this class - attend class and do the reading. This is not difficult, except if you are too set in your political ideals. This is a class to learn something new and not a class that is going to cater to your current political view points.

30 years ago this guy turned me on to critical thinking. I was a dumb valley schmuck before and now I've been a lawyer for 20 years. I see him in the criminal courts sometimes. You can't kill this guy.

Nice guy who will for sure make some inspiring and hilarious comments. You will find them funnier if you're liberal like him, but still a good experience. Class is a little too unorganized though: a little redundant, informal, and a little unclear.

Farrel is a singular experience at Valley. If you want to cruise on brain-dead, stay away - but if you want to be intellectually exercised, come on in.

I really enjoyed this guy! He made you think and presented history in the right way. Don't take him if you are a slacker. If you want to learn something, take him!

He is one of the two best profs at Valley. I took every class he ever had and loved every minute. He is entertaining and knows his stuff. Inspired me to be a criminal defense lawyer (like him).

keep in mind. class main objective is to show u how smart and sharp he is. dont take his class unless u hav to. definetly not an easy A. the class is very interesting in itself and he makes it fun, but u do hav to read and learn the stuff. hav to be a clear thinker. reciting his own words on his tests will not get u a passing grade.

Professor Broslawsky changed the way I see everything in and outside of academia. His radical but realistic perspective made me the academic i am today. Had i not encountered his course several years ago I would not now be teaching myself. To bad there are not more people just like him.

Dr. Broslowsky was one of the the best professors i ever had. we challenged each other every step of the way, and he made me think in a way i never had before. It's a shame he retired.

3 essay tests, final is take home on questions he gives out ahead of time. this is not a political science class, this is philosophy all the way. he at different times infuriated me, made me crack up laughing, and inspired me. he gave me sh*t the whole semester for voting 4 ralph nader. easy A if u try at all one of the teachers ill always remember

Far-left teacher; you feel as if his teaching is catered to the young and impressionable above all in an attempt to influence; really fun and likable guy. Very easy B, easy A if you put in the time... not sure what more to say...

Easy, laid back and clear. He tells you exactly what he wants and doesn't have high expectations. Yes, you actually have to put thought into the work. He does insult people and it's rude but it's not a big deal, often its funny. He actually gets you interested in the topic and shows cool movies. take him.

As others repeatedly mention, he is an extremely easy going professor. If you know what you're talking about, and are familiar with the subject material, that alone will impress him and help your efforts in getting an A. Yes, he is a leftist, a progressive, and a "Marxist Humanist," but his grasp on the material is impressive. His lectures amuse.

took B's class in 1969. Very surprised to see he had JUST retired. From the most recent comments, he's still the same guy and teacher. Back then, he and his partner Chuck Jorgensen used to pack the big classrooms--and take career risks speaking out against the war etc. Farrell I remember you 40 yrs later: you made a difference

Mr. B is the best prof I've had so far! He's big on Lecture participation, no HW, 3 in class essays, books super cheap. He's real smart, funny, and will get u thinking...beware! =)He'll nail u if u don't know what ur talking about too, not 2 b mean, just 2 get u to think ur opinions thro. Take him!

This was the first college class I ever took in my life. He taught me to look at the world from a new perspective. He doesn't speak up so sit in the front. Goes off topic but that's what makes it interesting. Very easy A. Just show up to class and take notes. We took 3 exams and he gave the questions a week prior to the exam. Highly recommended!

Brilliant teacher (Knows his History/Philosophy), if a bit prone to rambling. Very helpful outside of class. He's a very fair grader as well. He wears his politics on his sleeve, but it doesn't seem to play a factor in his grading. Only complaint is that he goes off-topic way too much. Tests are not difficult, but I'd advise you to read the book!

I took his class in 1965. It was a tag team teaching class with Jorgensen <sp>. He was controversial then and I am glad to see he hasn't changed. You go Prof.

I took his class in 1977. Great professor. I had little interest in history prior to taking this course and Farrel make it very interesting. He knows his stuff.

I took Prof. Broslawsky's class in 1997. He inspired me to think critically and to go to law school. I would definitely recommend taking his class. I think of him often and fondly.

Honestly, political science is not my subject. He made an outline for every lecture and for the most part he goes through it. Every exam is an essay and some key terms. He's a great teacher.

Broslawsky is one of the greatest teachers that LAVC has. He has been teaching there longer than I have been alive. He doesn't use text books, and his requirements are free, and can be found online. Listen, take notes, his lectures are amazing. The man knows his stuff, he has some of the greatest stories, and life experiences.

Yes, his lectures are long but they are interesting to a certain point. He doesn't only just teaches you about the subject but he teaches you about the principles of life(in his own wife), plus he is hilarious. No offense, despite his age, he has the mentality of a young man which makes his class more interesting. He will surprise you and scare you

Professor Broslawsky is a great professor! I was nervous about passing the class because I was always confused! But he offers so much help and clarity that I passed the class with an A. He gives 2 in class essays and a take home final essay. Great professor!!

This is one of the smartest people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. He's very nice. He's also very liberal. If you are a fan of Ayn Rand beware he will rip you to shreds. Do not be afraid to argue with him. He really wants his students to use their heads.

He's an amazing professor, but he demands respect. You need to pay attention and interact in his class. He hates boring lectures and loves students who are able to argue with him and prove a point. He will give you a great feedback.

I took history and political science with Dr. Broslavsky in 2001-2002. This professor is amazing, gives very interesting, very informative lecture. I loved classes with this faculty. I still remember his lectures and think very highly of his teaching. LAVC can be proud of this faculty. I highly recommend him to students.

He is a great professor. Really cares for her students. If you do not understand something, if you tell him, he will explain whatever it is until you understand it. I really recommend taking this class with him.

Professor Broslawsky is an exceptional professor. His lectures are similar to those you'd take at UCLA or USC. The first thing he said to us in the beginning of the semester is to be outspoken--don't just take everything he says without thought. The purpose of this course is to get you thinking--thinking for yourself. If I could, I'd take him again

Professor Broslawsky is awesome! Not only is he an incredibly educated man, but he is also very caring, inspiring, and funny. His lectures are very interesting and he ties them in with current events as well. Fair grader and always keeps the class on its toes. Highly recommended!

He really cares about his students. You can count on him to be available. His lectures are often funny but he really knows what he talks about. Most of all he respects his students and allows them to express their own ideas. He is a legend at the college and the best teacher ever.

BEST CLASS I EVER HAD!!! My mother and sister took him years ago and say the same thing. READ and LISTEN and ASK QUESTIONS and you will LEARN!!! You will probably see the world in a different way after his class. He will teach you to RESPECT YOURSELF!!!!

Professor Broslawsky is one of the best instructors I've ever had, his lectures give you all you need to pass. He is very open to hearing our opinions and views and he respects them. This class wasn't difficult because he made sure we knew the information we needed to pass out exams.

My mom and dad met in his class in 1992. They loved the class and I can see why. He really knows his stuff. At first I thought I wouldn't understand but after a while I saw what he was talking about. He really explains stuff if you ask. Fun in the class and you learn a lot. Three essays including the final. He lets you have the exam questions

What can I say? He truly cares for his students! He makes you to respect yourself because he believes all of us are capable of being unique and original. There's really no need to cheat in his class because he wants you to just write down what you think and how you feel on the topic questions he gives you. He's also very knowledgeable! Take him!

Honestly, Professor. B wasnt just a professor to me. He has been one of the most influential people in my life. His class is what an academic experience should be like. I took his class two years ago and I remember everything we talked about like it was yesterday. He changed the way I think and view the world (more compassionate vs capitalistic).

He is hot/one of the best professors ever @LAVC. I cant get enough for him. We have different political opinions yet he was always willing to talk/listen to me. He truly cares about me &amp; my future. After his career he certainly doesn't need the job he is here because he loves teaching. 350 char isnt enough to say it all I implore you take his class

Professor Broslawsky is a gem. He is one of the professors who teaches everything he's learned about life and the subject. He truly cares about each student and helps you to understand the subject and pass the class. Amazing professor truly one of a kind.

I am so glad to see that he is still teaching. He encouraged me to stay in school, graduate, go to UCLA and then to law school. He is an inspiration to me and to many other of his students.

This was a very unusual class because there was a lot of discussion. He makes you question everything but does respect your opinion. Very funny. If you do the reading you will be ok but if you don't do the reading you may not know what is going on. He is very understanding if you have problems with the readings. ?Really helpful.

Prof. Broslawsky runs a great class thats open for great discussion. Its not as structured as most classes tend to be, which I think is great and allows for different opinions and interesting debate. Just show up and participate in the discussion, show you have an understanding of the topics and care, and youll do great.

I took his courses in History and Political Science between 2000-2001, since then I have become an educator and college professor myself. Professor Broslawsky is a beautiful human being, I feel very lucky to have learned from him--about real life, about things that matter. Take anything you can with him, and please thank him every chance you get.

Professor B is one of the most amazing people I've ever encountered. During this pandemic specially he has shown so much care for his students, and I appreciate it since my other teachers weren't being so nice. He only needs you to have a basic understanding of the topics and always open your heart and speak your mind when writing papers. TAKE HIM!

One of the best professors I had in the 1990's. I took his Law class, Political science, Philosophy, Humanities, anything he taught. He really makes you think and not just regurgitate what the book says.

I took his class for political philosophy sometime around 2016. He reminded me why I'm in school, and that is to learn and grow my mind. I'm switched over to communications now, but I used to be a political science major. I want to go to optometry school soon. Thanks for believing in me Broslawsky!!!

I took a few different classes from Professors Broslawsky & Jorgensen way back in the late '70s or early '80s. They taught the true history of the United States, rather than the sanitized, white-centric history most students learn in school. These courses were transformational for me, ultimately shaping the direction of my life.

This was a really good class. He knows a lot and is really funny. He supports his students. One guy missed a couple of classes and he went out looking for him to bring him back to class. He supports gay people and immigrants. If you can take hm before he leaves teaching. He is one of the best you can get at valley.

Made me want to strive to be a more intelligent, useful person. Some topics are a little dense, but he'll generously help if you aren't grasping them. I wish he taught more classes. I loved Professor Broslawsky. I had this professor during the Fall of 2023 and he was amazing. He was kind, caring, and really put thought into what he'd talk about every class meeting. Our grades were based on 3 papers that were 100% doable and not hard. He grades great and gives feedback. Recommend to anyone looking into his polisci005 class!!!

I mean this insecurely when I say this professor changed my life. He opened up my eyes to new ways of seeing and understanding taken-for-granted systems. He made me become a critical thinker and a scholar. It has been years since I took his course, and it changed me and my orientation to society, for the better. He is a rare and needed human.
