talks like the count from sesame street
It's his first year teaching and he teaches like everyone should know what he's talking about. The fact that he got worse as the quarter progressed doesn't lead me to believe that he will ever improve very much. He always seems like he's unprepared for the class and he can never answer the questions you ask. Choose a different teacher.
Easy class, horrible teacher. Started out with just power point slides, then stopped doing even that much, just writes on the board and talks. Difficult to understand what he is saying because he can't quite find the correct words to explain it. Goes off on tangents that are irrelevant. Tests were easy though.
Worthless professor. Very hard to understand because of thick accent. Does not understand own PowerPoint slides. Cannot answer questions given: "Let me get back to you." If possible, take a different professor.
He has a tendnecy to pick on students. It tends to be the same student over and over. All material comes from the book, and the power points are usually the ones off of the book's website. He doesn't write his own test questions, so watch him. He's made a mistake with my grade every test. 3 scantron tests compromise your whole grade.
Pretty aweful Professor. Get someone else if you get the chance. I'm glad that this was the last econ class that I have to take. Otherwise, I'd be completely unprepared for any other classes. And he really does talk like the count from Sesame Street.
The tests are really hard. because he tries his hardest to trick you on the multiple choice questions. I've gone to class everyday and read every chapter and understood it all clearly. And felt very prepared for the test at the very least expecting a 85. turns out I got a 73. Doesn't question on concepts but on details.
short fingers. hard to understand. not very prepared for class (not knowing his own power points). some times students were telliing him the right answers...
I had to take this class. I hate math and science. He didn't help that problem. I thought I had studied enough but I still ended up with low grades on the tests. He picks on students and calls on them during class. There's no point in going to lecture because you can get it from the book. Get a different prof unless you're up for teaching yourself.
1 exam question asked you what year some economic % was nationalized... yeah take someone else. His lectures are extremely boring, he's not very clear, goes over stuff very fast, his syllabus doesn't specify what lectures will be on nor when tests will occur. Picks on same students over and over and doesn't elaborate on much. Take anyone else.
To be frank he's a horrible professor. Class was correcting his mistakes over half of the time. Couldn't draw/explain a supply and demand curve to save his life. Takes attendance by passing around a sheet of notebook paper where you write your name in. Tests are made to confuse you, not test your knowledge. Final grade is based off of 3 exams.
His class is boring but he explains the material well. Does think that we don't know how to do some really really easy things like converting a % to a decimal and slope. Test are really easy as long as you go to class and listen
The material is complicated and his tests can be hard, but he is funny and very willing to help you.
Great professor, goes into detail about everything and is really funny. Puts all of his notes online which makes it really easy to study for exams which are all multiple choice. Not to mention he gives great study guides.
I have never had so much difficulty comprehending a subject as I did within this class. Although his lectures are based entirly from the book, his tests were extremly tricky and the study guides really did not help. Test grades were always barely a C average for WHOLE class. Worst teacher i have had at western!
Not a bad teacher. I only question if he actually knows anything...? You don't need his lectures because they are straight from the book. He never has personal examples or insight into anything! Also ironic because attendance is required. However he is overall a nice guy and willing to help. I found the tests to be very fair. Study and you'll be o
Thanks to this class I lowered my GPA dramatically and have to re-take the course with someone who can actually TEACH. Ugh. He will seem like a decent prof. until your grade from the 1st test slaps u in the face. AVOID this professor if possible.
This class is easy, in that lectures are unnecessary. Show up for the review and the tests (when i took this class, attendance was only extra credit). The tests are what will kick you in the face, because the questions ask you to apply the material in ways that Khanamoui doesn't really explain in class. Otherwise, dull class and didn't care for it.
STAY AWAY The tests are not written properly, and have many plausible answers or use terms in unpredictable ways. Asks trick questions: "clas: the interest rate is 4%." "test: is the interest rate 4.6%?" Is not willing to acknowledge the misleading nature of his tests when I went in. I had all As, and took 400 level Phil and EE, looking to get a C+
I liked him pretty well. Really knows his stuff and is very energetic about the subject. Extremely willing to help. Tests aren't hard but can be tricky if you don't think through the questions logically. Attendance is extra credit which I liked. Power Points are on BB which helps. Class is pretty boring.
This professor has really great insight in econ. Difficulty of tests are average. Not the best professor I've had, but by no means the worst. Very decent, I would take him again.
He is a really funny guy and easy to talk to. Extremely knowledgeable in economics. Great insight. The tests destroyed the class. They are so hard and so complex!!!!! The class avg on the 2nd midterm was a 60%. Great teacher bad tests.
I recommend finding another teacher for this course. The professor is knowledgeable on the subject, but he only makes it clear when you go one on one with him. His office hours are great and he helped a lot, but I feel he could have done that in the classroom. He also needs to start wearing an undershirt.
He is a great professor, very knowledgable and helpful. His breadth of knowledge was sometimes amazing. He would answer a broad range of questions not directly related to the text. I strongly recommend him.
One of the best teachers I have had. Very knowledgeable and energetic. I did not have much interest in economics before taking this class but I am now seriously considering changing my major to economics. Do take advantage of his office hours he is very helpful.
He is an excellent professor and funny too. I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot especially about the current events.
He is really good, knows a lot about economics. He had the class divided into two groups and had one group explain the stuff that he teaches to the other group. I thought this was pretty cool. I learned a lot this way.
One of the best, if not the best, professors I have ever had. He is full of energy and enthusiasm. His is very well versed in the subject matter and takes a lot of time to make sure everyone understands before he moves on. I highly recommend him.
I liked him. He was helpful and made the concepts easy to understand. His tests were fair.
I like the way he lectures, he makes sure everyone understands before moving on. Unlike Prof. Hendryson, he rarely gets off topic.
Farrokh is a great econ professor! He spends alot of time explaining things to you so you understand it well. He also gives time for you and a partner to explain what he just said to each other which helps ALOT! Test are ok as long as you study for them. And do the online homework!
Professor Kahnmoui is a really nice guy and is obviously really intelligent, but I found his lectures kinda boring and I was easily distracted. I much preferred Hendryson
Great class. Great professor. Tests were all multiple choice and was a breeze.
Sometimes he gets off-topic but not as much as Hendryson. Highly recommended for econ 207.
One of the best in the business, has great insight into economics and finance. I strongly recommend him.
Our class is very behind where we should be. He is incompetent, and doesn't accept that his babbling and useless tangents are what is holding the class back. He will sometimes take most of a period reteaching what he taught the day before. His syntax & clarity on his tests is often troubling. I got an A, but it was not worth being in his class.
He is very good at explaining. Takes his time to make sure we all understand him, goes into details a lot. He knows a lot about economics. I have enjoyed his class and learned a lot. Will take another course with him for sure.
I really liked the way he teaches. He is very patient and wants everyone to understand before he moves on. Extremely willing to help and very competent. I really enjoyed it when he talked about current economic situation in the country. Tests are fair but you have to prepare for them. I got an A but had to work hard for it.
Professor Kahnamoui is very passionate and knowledgeable in the subject. His lectures and homework were perfectly correlated to the tests- no surprises. This was my second time with him and he did a great job both times. I highly recommend him.
Kahnamoui is a very considerate guy. He has an accent but you can still understand what he says. Attendance and participation will get you extra credit, and he posts powerpoints and study guides online. His tests follow the material mentioned in the study guide, nothing unexpected. He makes it easy to succeed.
Great guy, good prof. He is very intelligent, and knows what he is talking about. He often initiates discussions among students to help ensure everyone is learning the info. Great class, I learned a lot. A few tests had ambiguous questions, but after talking to him he gave credit where credit was due. I'll be looking for his other classes later.
Farrokh was a great prof. for macroeconomics! He was very clear in his lectures and explained topics until the whole class felt comfortable with them. Tests are difficult, but if you attend lecture and read the book you should be fine. He also takes attendance, so be sure to go if you want full participation points.
Kahnamoui was one of the best professors I have had at Western. He is crazy smart, and knows how to make a joke every once in a while. He makes everything very clear and is always offering help.
Definitely worth taking a class from him! He lays out exactly what you need for the tests and will adjust the tests if he hasn't covered all the material. Best Econ professor I've had so far.
After struggling in ECON 206 with a different professor, I was apprehensive about 207, but Kahnamoui is straight-forward about the material, and his exams are completely fair. He randomly calls on students to test our knowledge. Though his class is great overall, he can be a little stand-offish at times and argues with students quite a bit.
Professor Kahnamoui is a great professor and really knows his stuff. Show up to class everyday and take good notes. Do the homework, its not graded but the questions are the same types of questions you will see on the tests.
Kahnamoui is not very knowledgable about economic historical data and is very narrow minded. His answer to questions is usually: "Ill get back to you on that." Which he never did. This class basically follows Keynes' "General Theory." He makes everything into classical v. Keynesian and disregards the existence of Austrians and even neo-Keynesians.
Great professor. I'm not great at economics, and did not do very well in econ 206. However, I did much better in this class mostly because he was a great teacher and did a good job of making the subject matter as clear as possible by having students explain concepts to each other during class, and then explain them again out loud.
The professor was okay. His tests are fairly easy and all multiple choice. Don't opt to do the homework, its a waste of time and not needed. I went into the class wanting to do economics and came out not interested at all in the subject. But the class is still pretty easy.
I loved this professor, easily my favorite at Western so far! He really breaks down each topic and provides awesome examples to help clarify topics. I would recommend the homework; it helps students to better understand the material, and helps if you're not a good test taker. TAKE PROF KAHNAMAUI! You won't regret it!
Excellent professor. Explains all concept in excellent detail and uses really good examples that clarify concepts very well. Tests are not too difficult as long as you know the concepts, and all multiple choice. Really friendly guy who can also be pretty funny. Take him!
I definitely recommend Farrokh. He explained things very clearly and allowed time for students to explain concepts to each other which really helped. All multiple choice tests that weren't super hard. Go to class and study and you will be fine. Oh, and the Aplia homework is a waste! The way it's graded makes it more challenging than it should be.
He was a great prof. HW is optional- I chose not to do it and still expect an A. Without hw there is VERY little work outside of class and exams are all multiple choice and not too hard at all. He also has a hilarious sense of humor and keeps the class very entertaining. I would take him again. Attendance taken for extra credit, great grade boost.
Kahnamoui is one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I have also taken 207 and 303 with him. He is always there to answer questions. He teaches you where to get economic data in class so you can see the theories in action which is extremely useful, unlike any other professor I have had. His tangents are very educational.
I had a difficult time in this class because he was solely lecture base, so if you missed class, you were deemed to fail.! He does not make sure the class comprehends, uses big economic words for an introduction class, and when one student asked for help he said "Well, try harder" in front of the whole class.
He got me into Economics and now I'm studying it! He has an accent which may be hard for some people to understand but I think he is a great professor and he really explains things well. Tests come directly from problem set homework, and the online homework isn't too bad.
Great professor. Makes class really interesting and involves students. Very helpful and really understanding. Wish I could take a class from him again.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. I found that he is kind of rude to his students. If he notices you aren't paying attention he will call you out for it in front of the class. Also, he needs to learn how to use a computer! Seriously he uses excel sheets like they are word documents. His lectures are really long! I can't help zoning out
Attendance is required. Likes to single out students so pay attention!
Kahnamoui was a great professor! He really cares about how his students are doing, and will push back exam dates if he feels like the students aren't ready. His study guides are clear and it's what will be on the test. The content gets a little tough near the end. But he provides a lot of examples. 100% would take him again!
Not too great. Knows his stuff but has a problem relaying it back to most students. Study the problems on canvas as well as the chapter questions. Don't do aplia
The worst professor at WWU. Taught the PowerPoints. Class was just listening him read the slides. Posted homework after we had taken the tests on those subjects and said it was our fault for not reminding him. Study guides were vauge. Test random and horribly worded. Didn't learn anything I couldn't have taught myself. Horrible teacher. Don't do it
Farrokh is a great professor. He posted all his lectures on canvas along with problem sets to allow you to practice the material. I wouldn't recommend to do Aplia unless you really think you'll bomb the tests. The tests are basically the problem sets that he posts and goes over in class. Study the material and problem sets and you'll do fine.
Kahnamoui was a good teacher, and was pretty funny and knowledgeable. However, I found lecture to be a little all over the place, and relied on my textbook for clarity. He gives a little extra credit for attending/participating in class, and it's worth going, but as long as you either go to class or read the book, you will do fine!
Classes seem to go on for a very long time and sometimes the material is pretty boring. Tests are not bad, and I mainly used to book to clear up the material we learned from class. Aplia was really easy and we only had around 4 assignments on it all quarter so if you aren't a good test taker I would recommend it (only down side is the cost).
Farrokh really knows his stuff- I respect his intellect and the amount of depth he goes into with the lectures. He's very clear in answering questions. When he lectures, he tends to forget about the powerpoint- he'll go over something, and then skip right past the slides that detail it. I would bring my laptop and go through the slides as he goes.
I first had him as a professor for econ206 and did not like him at all. The course is very self taught, he moves due dates around, and just reads straight from the Powerpoint. Currently, I have him as a professor in fin215. It is even worse. He has been my least favorite professor I have had at Western.
He doesn't stick to the syllabus and only covered about 2/3 of the material we were supposed to learn. Delayed the midterm by 3 weeks until just before the final. Poor organization, often late to class, overall would not recommend this class or this professor.
K-dog is hilarious. His love for desperate housewives always gives me a chuckle. The dude is so passionate about the subject and he is such a caring guy. Best Econ prof. take him whenever possible.
He was late most days and pushed due dates around. The lectures were straight for the textbook slides, not organized and sooo boring.
Great prof with a sense of humor. Also had him for Money and Banking which he made relatively entertaining. Good grasp on student comprehension.
Farrokh is very good looking so I think that's what distracted me in this class. His exams ARE very hard and he does like to call out people in class and single them out which is rude. Overall, he's a good person but he's kind of rude.
Take any other professor for a better grade. You think you know what you're getting into before the exam but during you will not be able to recognize a thing. Getting one question wrong results in a whole grade level difference so if that scares you, another reason to avoid. He will also call you out so be prepared to answer with anything. Goodluck
You either love or hate him. There is no middle ground. Same goes for his opinion of students. His tests are hard, and he doesn't teach the material as well as some people would like. He has a very specific teaching style. If in the first week, his way of teaching doesn't match your way of learning, find a different prof, it will be hard otherwise.
Professor Kahnamoui is a great ECON prof and definitely knows what he's talking about. Lectures are very dry and essentially consist of straight powerpoint presentation the whole time. Two midterms and a final are your entire grade so its pretty hit or miss. Aplia isn't necessary and really just a waste. Don't forget D is for Desperate Housewives!!
Prof Kahnamoui was overall a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and is such a funny guy! Everything is laid out clearly for students, tests are multiple choice, and he gives you a study guide before each exam. His lectures can be a little dry and he gets off topic occasionally, but I would definitely take another class from him!
I wouldn't say this was the worst class, but it could've been better. Some of his classes drag on forever- sometimes he'd spend 2 hours simply going over problems in the book. Tests weren't difficult in my opinion (all multiple choice), but if you miss few questions you're already down a letter grade. Don't do aplia unless you're a bad test taker.
I really liked this class. It's easy to get a good grade in, with a pretty light workload. Everything is straight forward on the three tests, and all are multiple choice. He is funny and goes off topic sometimes, but posts all lectures online. DONT DO APLIA. it only brought my grade down because the tests are easy to get a's on.
Farrokh is very, very hit or miss for students. Either you like him a lot or you find him boring and uninteresting. Personally, I found his lectures insightful, engaging, and overall fun.
Farrokh is the man! This dude is always down to have fun and interesting discussions during class and will really go in depth in the material. Can drone a bit and has a very traditional style of lecture. People either like him a lot or really don't like him. Take with caution.
Farrokh is a great professor! His lectures are entertaining and informative. Don't bother with online homework, just brings your grade down. Tests are easy if you study.
He answers al your questions and is great at explaining what is happening. I hated econ 206 and barely passed however this class really made me like econ and i think it has to do with him.
one of my favorite professors at western! i really love him as a professor, wish i would've taken him for 206 if he taught it when i needed to take it. he's great, lays out exactly what will be on the tests, tells fun but useful/interesting stories. makes macroeconomics interesting for sure! highly recommend for 207!!
I think people give Kahnamoui too hard of a time. His lectures can get boring, but the guy himself is a very intelligent and capable professor. He goes off on tangents, but always is able to rope that in with what we're supposed to be learning about. The one thing I don't like is that you're graded off of 3 tests. They aren't too hard however.
Worst class I have ever taken at Western. Partly due to him never teaching the class and admitting he had little knowledge about the subject, but it seemed he didn't try. Taught by reading textbook pages then wrote paragraphs on the board in handwriting that no one could read. Rude to students. Disorganized. Never taking a class from him again.
He is a nice guy, a little hard to follow because of his accent, can go on tangents, etc. 2 options for your grade, either based off 3 non accumulative exams, or the 3 exams and outside homework. I did the 3 exams option, obviously, study for the exams because your grade relies a lot on them in either option. Laid back guy, pushes exam dates around
Multiple choice tests that are specific and pretty difficult. Pretty boring lectures but then again history of economic thought isn't exactly the most interesting subject matter. Nice guy tho
Basically, he got super far behind. He spent a lot of the class talking to us, but we didn't get through the chapters fast. He requires a textbook, but I never even used it. I was super bored in class. But passing was super easy if you understand economics.
He's super funny and really interested in econ and clearly knows a lot. but the exams are hard, I would recommend going into office hours often to check in about topics and review a lot. the study guide he gives are really helpful, you don't need to do the homework option if you put in enough effort for studying the material.
I personally do not like his teaching style and would not take him again. He is very unorganized and when going over problems he gets confused and is all over the place. He was behind in our class and we didn't do three chapters. If there is another professor to take, you should. Least favorite professor at Western so far.
Hes kinda a scary guy, calls on students and looks at them like idiots if theyd dont know the answer. You could tell he really loves Econ and knew his stuff. but he would take to long on certain subjects, so we ended up not having time to learn the last 3 chapters.
I would take with him again. You get zero homework and the tests are not that bad if you pay attention in class and study a little bit before the test. There were 2 exams (suppose to be 3 but we ran out of time) and an exam. Would DEF take a class with him again. He can over lecture and bore you, but he really wants to make sure you understand.
Hes a good guy but he often explains things in way more complicated of a way than he could have. He also makes you feel dumb if you ask a question that he thinks is easy. He also doesnt give the full class period for exams even tho that time is reserved for the class? Overall I would find someone else to teach you.
Dr. Kahnamoui is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable and caring and really gets you interested in economics. I would definitely take another class with him
Farrokh is awesome, he knows a lot about economics and really explains things well. He gives an optional online homework which is great if you are not a very good test taker. I learned a lot in this class.
I'd rather walk away from a class having engaged and struggled with the material and end up with a B or C than feel like I am wasting my time. Kahnamoui's class felt like a waste of time. Interested in economic history, buy the $50 book and read Chapters 1-11. I just saved you $1,200!
I enjoyed his course very much. He gave interesting lectures outlining the European Economy. I came out of this course knowing a lot more than when I went in. He is always open for questions and does a good job explaining a boring tough subject. He only have 2 tests, 1 final and a project. As long as you listen and read slides you'll do well.
He is very smart, answered all questions very well. He has great presentation skills. The brainstorming sessions were very helpful. I will take more econ classes with him anytime.
This dude really knows his stuff and helps a lot in class or if you go to his office. Two midterms and one final and optional homework. Don;t bother with the homework if you are OK with multiple choice exams. He gives solid study guides before the exams, just follow them you will be fine.
The professor is very nice and helpful and always open for class discussion. I loved the passion he showed with regard to the topic. I look forward to taking more classes with him.
Farrokh Kahnamouiis a great lecturer, one of my favorite professors at Western.. He did a great job presenting historical economic theories. Two midterm exams and a final plus a term paper. He is also a very fair grader. I would love to take another course with him.
I really enjoyed the class, lectures were always interesting and he made sure we understood everything that he covered in class. I loved his passion about economics.
Kahnamoui is passionate about the material and answers all questions pretty clearly. Also he is very helpful and wants to see students succeed, would take him again, learned a lot!
I have taken both Econ 206 and 207 with him and he was great in both. Very pleased with the way he taught and ran the class. Helped me understand concepts in the ways I did not expect. Will take him again for sure.
Great professor, very engaging and knowledgeable. He was always available outside of class . Attend the classes and follow the power points and study guide, you will be fine.
He's a real good guy. Classes are generally fun and entertaining with him making a lot of jokes in class. Test are almost identical to the problem sets online which makes tests really easy. He also gives three extra credit points if you attend every class which makes it difficult to not get an A. Made me love economics.
This guys a boss. He's straight forward, articulate, gives good feedback and is willing and able to answer any questions you may have.
He isn't the best teacher for basic subjects like econ 206/207. He just goes way to in depth and the tests are pretty difficult. But he is a nice professor and cares what he is doing. He is passionate, but too smart to teach the beginning courses.
Farrokh was a great professor! He made the long lectures go by fast, and truly knew what he was talking about everyday. He was also very funny, which is something I didn't expect. Attendance isn't really graded, but the more you go and participate the more extra credit he gives in the end. His exams follow the study guides very well.
I've had him for 301, 303, 311, & 385. I'm amazed he's at a 3.3 Dr. Kahnamoui is a hilarious teacher & all of his classes are cake. I've taken him probably too many times but gotten A's in each class with little to no effort. Got all my WP points knocked out with him too. Also, a lot of material crosses over between the classes he teaches.
This is the second class I've taken with him and I'm shocked his score is so low. He is awesome! Funny and really knowledgeable. His classes are easy and he gives very specific study guides before each exam so as long as you study those close you'll get 80s and 90s on the exams. Written exam is cake. GReat class, interesting if you like econ.
I wish there was more of a rhythm and flow to the pace of his class. There is no reading schedule and I suggest using Applia (I did not and have regrets). He is an honest and cares about his students. However lectures are LONG and boring.
Farrokh is incredibly knowledgable when it comes to economics, but in this setting his knowledge backfires as he is too smart to teach such an easy economics class. Also the fact your whole grade is based off of three tests unless you pay 130 dollars for aplia is extremely unfortunate.
I enjoyed this class very much, lecture were always very informative and interesting. He is really intelligent and gives very specific study guides for the exams. He can also be very funny when he wants to,
Truly one of the best CBE professors at Western. He gives great lectures and is a pretty entertaining guy. Gives you the tools to succeed by posting study guides and all notes on canvas. I wish he taught 400 level classes so I could take more classes with him. 301 consisted of 3 exams, a written test, and a presentation.
One of my favorite professors at Western and a real nice guy too. He knows a lot about economics and answers any questions you may have Class has extra credit for attendance and participation which can bring your grade up by one full letter grade just by attending classes and asking or answering questions. Will take him again for sure.
Kahnamoui is a great instructor. I really enjoyed the lectures . Whenever a question was asked he explained it in a way that was easy to understand. He knows economics extremely well, I learned a lot such that I am thinking about majoring in economics.
Excellent lecturer and a great guy. He brought passion and intelligence to the classroom. I learned a lot and will surely take another course with him.
He's a great guy. His personality is amazing. His teaching can sometimes be a little jumbled but he's so approachable and funny it makes up for it. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well.
His lectures are alright. Doesnt require attendance but if you go its 3% EC. Has 2 midterms and a final and his practice exams contain half the questions on the midterms. PowerPoints all posted online and very easy to study
He only grades on midterms and final. he goes a lot slower then other econ teachers. the class was easy, i only showed up a few times and I still understood the material
I would not recommend Farrokh for an econ class. He only grades on 2 midterms and a final. He offers up to 3 points of extra credit for showing up and participating in class. He posts the textbook on canvas so don't get the book. He also posts problem sets on canvas for you to do on your own time but the wording of his questions are confusing .
Prof was really nice for one on one help, but one thing i absolutely hated was he puts you on the spot in class and continues to put people on the spot until you get the answer he wants.....
Actually took him for ECOn 206, 207 and 301 so this applies to all of them. Super lecture heavy and graded only on the midterms and finals. You have to read and study or there's no way you'll do well on the exams. He gives great study guides though and genuinely doesn't test you on things you haven't learned. Super funny guy with great lectures.
If you take any of his econ classes, get ready to watch a lot of youtube, because there is no way you're going to understand anything he is teaching. Do yourself a favor and don't show up to the lectures. Lectures only make things more confusing. Khan Academy and Jacob Clifford are the best for his classes!
Very confusing class, our grade was determined by 3 tests, 2 midterms and a final. He wouldn't really answer questions when emailed? or he would answer part of them and ignore the rest. Material would not have been as difficult to comprehend if I had learned it on my own, and he really struggles with the online class format.
COVID-19 Class. Zoom Lectures were hard to process for me and some of my peers. I feel like he did not have good methods of teaching and conveying the material. Graded on two midterms and a final, no other assignments. The exams often had mistakes and were hard to understand what the questions were getting at, at times. If you like econ, take him.
He kept the class engaged and did a great job of answering questions. He knows economics extremely well. I highly recommend him.
Kahnamoui is a very smart professor. His passion for economics is really inspirational and his expectations for the course are very clear. I loved the way he answered all the questions and learned a lot in this course.
I learned a lot from this class. I have had Econ 206 and 207 with him before and he was great in all of them. There were 3 exams, one paper and one presentation. If you attend the classes and read/watch (all lectures are recorded) on Canvas you will do pretty well.
Truly one of the best professors I have had so far at Western, knowledgeable, caring and funny. He covered lots of materials related to social issues using economic models. I will definitely take him again.
Kahnamoui is very smart and knows what he's teaching, but he isn't really great at this online class format. His lectures are hard to follow sometimes. And the 2 midterm exam questions are also worded strangely. It gets confusing. He also removes all files from canvas without telling anyone and he doesn't usually answer emails. Very frustrating. :(
Graded on just two mid-term exams, a written exam, and a final exam. But he gives study guides and as long as you study those you will do well. For me, the lectures were hard to follow sometimes and hard to match the material to the study guide, but he does review sessions which are very helpful. Sometimes makes funny jokes. Nice guy.
While this teacher seems to know what he's talking about, I'm not sure I can call him a good teacher. His lectures are usually very long, and can often be confusing thanks to amount of economics lingo they are drenched in. Also, while some people would like his system of grading everything on 2-3 tests, it did nothing but stress me out.
This man would be lucky to get a job overseas. One of the worst professors I have ever had. The beginning of the year we had 30 people show up, until the end when there was only 9 people left. Incredibly boring, takes breaks during class, and does not help when there are questions.
Here's the deal- his lectures are awful and useless. He posts the textbook on Canvas and the review problems are helpful. It's self taught but if you talk to him outside of class he's a nice guy
Not a great prof
I really liked Dr. Kahnamoui! His lectures were definitely long and can be dry, but it wasn't a bad class at all. He gets back to emails really quick and is super helpful during office hours and lectures.
Honestly a great professor! As long as you pay attention in class and put in the effort, you'll ace all the tests. He puts a lot of effort into making sure that students succeed. He held two study sessions outside of class going over the study guides, which was super helpful. Definitely recommend taking a class with him!
I really liked this course. His knowledge about economics is really good. Three exams, and essay and an oral presentation make up the course grade. He gives very clear study guides if you follow them, you will do well on the exams. He is also great in his office hours and really wants to help you to succeed. I highly recommend him.
For me, he is one of the top 2 or 3 professors at the College of Business. He knows a lot about economics and makes sure you understand everything he says in class. Don't hesitate to ask him questions inside or outside the class, he is always ready to help. The exams are very straight forward, and he gives clear study guides that are very helpful.
A great class and a great professor. I will take another class with him in a heartbeat.
I like him! Just a hard class graded on the midterms, final, a 3 small quizzes. Moves very fast and sometimes doesnt explain things well
graded on 2 midterms and final. I asked in class when grades would be entered as none had yet, previously emailed but got no response, he said we have our scores. I clarified we didn't know overall grade and he says we wont know till everything is in, meaning we wouldn't know our grade until the end of quarter when we couldn't do anything about it.
Entire grade based upon three large exams. Unengaging lecturer for an already dry topic. Not recommended.
Farrokh knows what he is talking about, but his lectures were very dry, and he wasn't very receptive to feedback. He is funny, so that is what makes the class bearable. If you're someone with prior knowledge of Econ, it will be a good class for you, but otherwise, we're only graded on three big exams and three little quizzes.
I am shocked at some of these comments. He is a great professor, very knowledgeable and caring. He went out of his way to give extra review sessions on exams by Zoom. He grades on 3 exams and 3 quizzes and quizzes helped a lot with preparing for the exams. I would take another course with him for sure.
The lectures were great, I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Dr Kahnamoui will be a great memory from my time at Western.
A very interesting course, professor is engaging and explains the material very well. He has a broad knowledge in economics. I learned a lot from him. Two midterm exams and one final exam and one essay make up the course grade. I will definitely take another course with him.
Professor Kahnamoui is nice and I learned from him but sometimes he was confusing. He did have a sense of humor which made the class more entertaining. I probably won't take him as a professor again because my learning style didn't mesh with his lecture style but you can tell he knows what he's talking about.
Professor Kahnamoui has great lectures and is very nice. Students should know that there are only four assignments over the entire quarter. Remember the dates of the tests since there are little to no reminders. Study well. There are study guides, but they do not cover the specifics of the tests, so be prepared.
He is a funny professor and it is obvious he knows what he is talking about. Although he never took the time to post grades and I think this is because he has to educate himself and be aware that you are able to see what your grade is looking like before finals! He also started giving out quizzes until he saw many did poorly on the first midterm.
Cool guy, got carried away in lectures sometimes but it's b/c he cared about it. Great with words but not very good at illustrating examples on the board. You don't need to show up you just need to make a good enough study guide from powerpoints that you're ready for tests. Written exam was pretty easy, just spell things right and do research.
A great professor! You should pay attention in class and put in the effort. you'll do great on all the tests. He puts in a lot of effort to make sure that students succeed. He offered extra quizzes and extra review sessions to help students who needed help. Take him, you won't be sorry!
Farrokh was not a great professor. He sped through lectures and gave no homework so we were only graded on three exams that were pretty tough. He is funny and accessible outside of class but I wouldn't recommend taking this class.
I would not take this class! There is no homework so the only thing you're graded on is exams. Farrokh does know what he is talking about but can get carried away. Farrokh also doesn't accept suggestions at all and runs his class in a very old fashioned way. Take this class with a different professor if you can.
Make sure to study for the exams. He's very knowledgable about the topic but doesn't always make the topics as clear as they should be. Could be better, could be worse.
He sure knows his stuff and is a cool guy. Go to all the classes and read the power points on Canvas and the study guides you will do just fine.
Professor Kahnamoui is such a caring man. He made sure that everyone understood what he was talking about. He gave 5 online quizzes and 3 in-class exams. The online quizzes are a great way to prepare for the in-class exams which have a higher weight. Take him, you will not regret it.
One of my favorite professors at WWU. He is very nice and knows the subject very well. He truly cares about the students and want them to succeed. Two midterm exams, one final exam and several online quizzes plus extra credit for class participation.
I really enjoyed his lectures. He explains things so well, it makes them easy to understand. Make sure you participate in class (ask questions and answer questions), he likes that and gives you extra credit for it. Online quizzes really prepare you for the midterm and final exams.
Lectures are long & confusing. Sometimes gets the math wrong & students have to correct him. U basically teach urself. He has a study guide but he waits until a week b4 test 2 upload. He never uploads grades so u never know ur grade. U need to show up the day he returns ur test grades bc. theres no other way to find out. Hard to reach through email
Sweet guy, this was my second quarter taking him. I wish that he gave clearer outlines of the project we did together, but other than that I loved coming to his lectures. He doesn't put test grades in Canvas, which can be annoying. Just make a strong study guide from his outline and you'll do fine. Wish that I could take him every quarter.
Lectures are long, boring, and confusing. We hardly cover any content in class. I understand concepts more after reading the book than his lectures. He gets frustrated when we don't know the answers to his questions and will call people out. Class was planned horribly. Midterm dates make no sense (the second one is the week before finals. Why?)
VERY boring lectures. Like in a classroom with no windows while this guy reads off a power point the whole time. You arent allowed to have your phone or laptop open during class. Yes you read that right. No laptop in an economics class, If you are on your phone he will stop class and yell at you. The material is so hard to memorize its all the same
grade was based on 3 exams, no notes allowed. no computers allowed in class. lectures long and boring and exams were hard. midway through the quarter he started offering online quizzes, but once you finished it you could never go back and look at it again as a study tool. study guided provided did very little to actually prepare you for the exam.
I wouldn't recommend this professor. Graded only on a few things and his lectures are extremely boring.
Nice guy, and clearly knowledgeable, but his lectures are very dry and long with text-heavy PowerPoints. The course is graded only on a handful of multiple choice exams which have little room for error, so it boils down to memorization of the content. Make sure to use his study guides and you'll do fine.
Professor Kahnamoui is a great lecturer. He is very knowledgeable and caring. Three multiple choice exams and one essay plus extra credit for class participation. Exams are not hard as long as you use his study guides to prepare for them. I will take him again for sure.
Professor is a good person, but not a good teacher. All of the class is lecture and he talks so much that I would tune out for 1 minute then tune back in and have no clue what we are doing. He often gets confused and makes mistakes when teaching. My whole class wasn't doing well so he decided to drop the lowest test and quiz. So that was nice.
Not a good teacher, his lectures are boring and his grading is based on just quizzes, midterms, and a Final. I wish he could add some assigned HW problems that are graded (they don't have to be extremely difficult problems) so that his class could have a better understanding of the material. Doing that would help us prepare more for his hard tests
I have taken Econ 301,303 and 388 with him and he was great in all 3. He has a very broad knowledge about many things especially economics related issues. He offers extra credit for class participation. I learned a lot from him and will take another course with him for sure.
Microeconomics is easy if you know basic algebra. Kahnamoui is a nice man but really inconsistent as a teacher. Sometimes he does calculations wrong during lecture and you have to correct him. He will yell at you if you look at your cellphone and call on random people to answer questions; felt like I was in high school again. Read the book instead
The professor is very knowledgeable and caring. He explains topics very clearly and gives extra credit for participation. He is also very good at answering questions.
Farrokh is a fine teacher, his class structure is horrible. I am a busy STEM major and I was not able to use my laptop to do other work during the long 2 hour lectures. Your grade is based on a few exams and quizzes making it very study heavy. Terrible class for anyone except business majors, skip this as your GUR.
As long as your showing up to lessons your good. I made the mistake of skipping too many and fell way behind. His slides are not enough info to catch yourself back up with. No graded homework, we would just go over answers the next day. Exams were the grade, but if your prepared then you should be fine, they are just what you'd expect.
Professor Kahnamoui's lectures can be hit or miss, but using resources like the textbook and unstuck AI alongside attending class helps grasp the material. Exams are tough, but staying on top of the content makes the class manageable.
