This guy is nuts. He always puts students on the spot. He is a workoholic and practically lives in his office. He is conceided and thinks very highly of himself. The class however is not too hard put very few points are awarded through the quarter. So if you mess up once, your screwed.
Safavi is a very animated teacher. Sure he puts you on the spot, but just remember, no eye contact. Tests are purely on the book and some lecture. Note: You always want to make sure that he is grading your exam right because sometimes some of his test questions can be off.

He's rediculously easy and a pushover...tell him you deserve an A and you'll get one.
Safavi is nuts. The only class you need to go to (besides to turn in homework) is the one before the test. He'll tell you everything to the page that'll be on the test. The rest of his lectures are about other subjects, so if you're struggling in chemistry or sociology you might want to go to his class he'll try and teach you. Pretty easy class
I'll drink to that, very easy. fun class. almost worth showing up at the early hours.
Safavi is outrageos to talk to, or to sit and listen. He advocates drinking in class... and from my best geuss participates on a regular basis. Class is slightly confusing, but get on his good side and you should be fine.
Hands down the best & funniest teacher I have ever had!!! He teaches you thru putting you on the spot and testing your memory, a very fun and effective style. Funny as hell and you can egg him on for even for outrageous classroom stunts!! A++++++++++++++
confusing on directions for assignments. tests are easy. doesn't really teach the subject that well--tends to waste class time.
The class should be easy, but it's not because he's never clear about ANYTHING. I'm pretty sure he spends more time talking about "Love Mug" than useful information that will ACTUALLY be on the test. If you like to know what is expected of you, and intend to learn something, do NOT take this class. Easy to get extra credit from.
what a waste of my frick'in time...i've got better things to do than listen to his bs...take Olney
His class is a riot, he has a good time with teaching and makes it fun to learn, if you are a bookworm and like to spend long nights studying DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Test are easy, he gives you a thorough review!
safavi is awesome. he keeps the class interesting even though it's 2 hours long, and he always wastes the first 30 minutes of class with random stories or questions. if you go to class he tells you exactly which parts of the book the test will be on. papers are graded by other students so everyone does well, I'd recommend this class, I got an A.
He's the man! It wasn't a bother showing up at 8:00am to listen to this guy! I highly recommend taking his class. Do the homework and you'll be set. Just read over the chapters, he tells you what pages to read for the test.
He has a lot of world knowledge that he tries to transfer on to his students. He MAKES YOU THINK, by telling stories he is trying to get you to apply the concepts and how they relate in the real world! amazing a professor that actually makes you think things through. Most students thought he was crazy but you have to see beyond his madness.
Safavi is awesome, not only was this the most entertaining class I have ever taken, but I learned alot about marketing too. I've never had an easier 8am class to go to.
Just dont sit in the front of class. that's all I can say.
His eye will scare the**** out of you and he spits in your face if you get too close. Proceed with extreme caution.
one of the most entertaining professors I've ever had. Actually learned some stuff about mktg and the class was relatively easy, just a few short easy papers. I definitely recommend, given the choice I would take the class from him again.
Worst professor I have ever had. I would not wish him on anybody. So be prepared for his discussions you cant understand because of his heavy accent or his pointless crap you have to remember that wont ever help you or he will yell at you in front of 70 people.
He's crazy. Just sit in the back and try not to make eye contact.
best prof ever. class is almost never boring, but you do have to go to class. he's really amusing, and you'll laugh at least once each class. he acutally makes you want to learn too.
I really don't know what to say about this man. He's a nice guy, and very funny, but as a teacher, he did not work for me at all. He spends the entire two hour lecture talking about nothingness, there was no structure, and if you value your sanity, don't do a project with him.
CRAZY CRAZY man... Very frustrating to sit through two hours with him & listen to him lecture you on what its like in the real world. Spent an entire class doing basic math one time, with him screaming at us. He DOES love the girls & will harrass you until you never go to class again, but I suppose the class is extremely easy. tests are a joke.
This was one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He advocates being helpful but I went to him and got yelled at for taking up time and told that I was stupid. He is not clear at all and he'll ask you a question that you don't even understand and then he'll yell at you in front of everyone. Oh yeah, and you have to teach yourself out of the book.

Safavi is okay. The tests are pretty easy but have a lot of ambiguous questions from large set of material. Nice guy but kind of an irresponsible teacher.
"What a life!"
CRAZY!!! Talks of nothing all class and then throws random assignments at you.
i began the class with no interest in marketing at all and ended the quarter with some interest in it. he was a very interesting teacher to say the least. the kind of guy that made you laugh at least once every class. he made it interesting to learn, dont listen to others when they say hes bad!
I truly wanted to learn about marketing, but after this class (Which I ended up dropping out of sheer frustration) I am dreading taking it again. You won't learn anything from him. Read the book (which is $150) and go to lectures prepared to suck up. If you want an easy A, take him. If you want to learn, stay away from Safavi.
He's such a character. Attendance is pretty mandatory but he tells you exactly wat pages to read for the test. The ONLY problem i had with him, was that it was a bit unclear on wen some things were due. But he counters that by letting you turn in late work. If you arent happy with a grade, talk to him he'll give you a couple extra points no prob!
This guy is CRAZY. Anyone have that crazy foreign uncle? This is him. He is VERY animated and I think its virtually impossible to fall asleep in his class. Likes to tell stories. DO NOT SIT IN THE FRONT and you'll be fine.
I liked him on the first day and that was about it. Not a fan. Whatever you do, sit at least 4 or 5 rows back, talk to him at least once so he at least knows you (helpful for arguing your grade), and do not take this class if you want to learn anything about marketing.
Safavi grills his classes on percentages and then throws a fit and tells you to drop the major when someone gets one wrong. The guy has good itentions, I got an A- but its just not worth it. The class is pure torture to sit through and you'll have around 3 pages of page numbers to read for tests. Gives too much busy work with unclear expectations.
He drives me insane! You can't understand him half the time and then he expects you to be able to do big math prob's in your head.I he asks you a question and you don't know what he was talking about(cause you can't understand him)he singles you out and tells others not to help you, that your wrong and you need to learn better. He is Crazy!!
The only professor on campus with good personality. He likes the ladies. I heard that he is a Persian Royal, but he keeps this under wraps. World travelor and enjoys sharing his knowledge. Loved this class. I don't understand what others are thinking. You learn ALOT and its an easy A.
He doesn't talk too much about marketing. he picks people out of the class and embarasses them if they don't know or understand some vague statistic. He has the student's best interests in mind but the way he makes sure you learn is questionable in practice. He is fair to easy/understanding of students grades and is willing to make changes.Good man
Safavi, you are both respected and appreciated! I have never seen a professor with better attendance at an 8 am class and it's not required. Amazing to learn from someone with real marketing experience. Ask him about marketing articles he has published and be prepared to learn on a level you rarely see. Thank you Professor - we feel fortunate!!
Safavi is crazy, but if he likes you he is more than willing to help you in anyway possible and give you an A. He is always available for extra help (he will respond to emails at three in the morning). He does have the tendency to ask math problems and may single people out, but take it with a grain of salt, if he singles you out he likes you!
He is crazy, yes! However, he's pretty funny. His catch phrase: 'I'll drink to that'! Easy grader, (go to his office, and he will help you get extra points). What sucks is he tries to use alot of managerial accounting info. for the 1st half of the qtr( he wants you prepared for the real world). And his accent can be hard to understand (He's from Ir
Safavi is a crazy teacher, but really loves what he teaches. He also enjoys his job which makes your job as a student a whole lot easier. His grading is very lenient and accepts late work becuase he is a "yes man." He does pick on students becuase he wants you to pay attention, but overall i would highly recomend him!
WORST "TEACHER." Did not learn ONE thing in class- the class in general was a waste of time!!! He takes attendance randomly. Midterms are hard- specific sentences from the book you need to know. Does tell you which page numbers you need to study. Not a fair grader. Extremely biased. Would NEVER take another class with him!!!!
I think Savafi should really consider retiring because his time is DONE. His marketing practices are outdated..he has products back from the 1980's..it's ridiculous. If you read the textbooks you should get a fair grade, but I don't see how I really learned anything about marketing. Pretty sad actually.
He is a good teacher... He tries to do anything he can to make student understand the concept. His lecture is boring sometimes, but you need to go to class because he gives you number of pages that you need to read from the book that will appear in the exam...
Take someone else. This guy is ridiculous. Favors women over men in any case! Tests are difficult and jump around a lot. I felt like he taught the same lesson day after day. Puts a lot of emphasis on his papers and case studies. Take someone else!
I thought Safavi was great; tries to be really helpful, is a "yes man", offers extra credit (but be careful, he'll contact you a lot to help him with stuff if you sign up for the extra credit). Wants everyone to do their best and is kind of old and crazy, but tries to make class interesting. Tells you EXACTLY what you need to study for exams too.
Safavi is probably the most entertaining professor I've ever had in my life. He's a "yes man" and constantly says that he comes to class "loaded". 2 midterms & final (multiple choice). Tells you exact pg #s to study. About 5 written assignments (short-ish) that students grade. Goes over exams & gives points back for "unfair" questions. Good class!
He is freaking crazy. Easy A though.
This class is a joke. Safavi is definitely past his prime. The YouTube video should give you a good idea about a typical lecture from Safavi. You basically have to teach yourself everything out of the book, but its a relatively easy class. He takes attendance everyday, so you have to go to lecture.
Crazy teacher, but don't get offended if you are in the front seats of the room-he will keep you awake. I liked his teaching and reviews for tests-give points back on test questions that you argue over. Claims-he is a Yes Man and lacks sleep constantly-loves his job though. Class grades assignments. Easy grade.
Worst Prof I've had. He teaches absolutely nothing. Be prepared to learn EVERYHTING out of the book. The day before a midterm or final he will decide that he wants you to read 1 or 2 more chapters, so he will asign them at the end of lecture and expect you to know the material by the next day for the exam. DON'T TAKE THIS PROF.
He is such a crazy old guy but a great teacher. He always tries to make class interesting. His assignments are not clear many ppl didn't even know what to do till the day before the due. participation is mandatory so go to class! exams are easy if you read a textbook and pay attention in class. good teacher over all
The most random professor at Western. Doesn't teach much in class barely uses any of lecture material for class, gives you page numbers to study before test. redicilous humor and loves ladies!
he is amazing.
I apologize to every teacher that I've ever said was a terrible teacher before, because I didn't have the low bar set by Safavi yet. A rambling derelict might as well be teaching, utter nonsense but every now and then a nugget of truth might accidentally pop out. AVOID!
SAFAVI IS THE BEST! For an 8am class this guy surely knows how to wake you up. Hes a very interesting old man. His tests require you to read the book and pay attention to lectures. I wouldnt take this class with anyone else! Highly Recommend!!!!!!

untouchable
Professor Safavi - Thank you. Your years of dedication to students brought me amazing International Business Opportunities. You taught me what I needed in order to succeed at Microsoft and beyond. Your contribution has ripple effects that I anticipate we'll see for generations. I worked hard in your classes and it was worth every project.Thank
Professor Safavi, our community business owners have access to better trained students. I think your classes taught us more because you care. We worked harder in your classes than any I attended at UW Law School. Safavi. Your contribution will never be matched. Four of the men in our group are working high level International Positions. Thanks
teacher is kind of a nut. don't do "option 2". he'll take up 6 hrs of your week with stuff. you do get graded "participation" so go to class. other than that just read book and you should be fine.
Wow! I took him when he was young and vibrant. Best Bus Dept teacher I ever had. If you cant understand his Iranian accent then you need to drop Marketing. In the real world the accents are much harder to understand. Based on what Ive read here hes still worth taking a class from. ( Class of '80)
Dr. Safavi is the best! No other WWU professor is as well traveled and worldly. There is no comparison with his passion for teaching.
Easy class just read the book and I found his stories to be quite funny. The assignments could of been more organized, but not hard by any means.
lecture is useless but you have to go... dont do option 2 or you will be his secretary 4 hours a week
This class is a complete joke. Attendance is mandatory, but I couldn't stand wasting two hours of my life listening to him ramble about nonsense. He "hires" students for homework points do all of his work, including grading, office work, and even writing class material (I am 100% serious). Do yourself a favor, and avoid at all costs.
Not a fun class. Not a terrible teacher. He's old but can still be lively and pretty darn funny. He's a great guy, but his class is sort of a mess. 3 exams, all multiple choice. Takes attendance every day. Option 2 = doing his office work for him. I might try another prof if I were you, but this class is definitely an interesting experience..
An easy class, he's pretty lenient on you as long as you show up to class, which consists of him telling rather interesting stories. He goes over the exams pretty thoroughly as long as your not completely brain-dead you should at least get a B in the class. For the love of god though do not do the other options! Just write the papers!
Best way to describe him is a mad genius. His teaching is extremely unorthodox which is why many people rate him low. People don't like him because he teaches non textbook ideas like be happy and smile. In the real world, those ideas bring success, not memorizing text.
At one time he was probably a great professor, that time has passed. He teaches non-text material and then tests you on the text book. He rambles on for weeks and then does a 30 minute review of whats on the test. He was preoccupied with creating his own textbook, teaching this course seemed to rank low on his priority list. Don't do option 2
Awesome professor and one of the best in CBE.
Avoid at all cost. Doesn't teach. Just rambles. Completely unclear on what is expected from you for exams. Complete waste of time. I have never had a worse prof. He is nice and funny and a great guy. Just a really bad teacher.
Blamed University for his inability to teach us. "Yes man" attitude makes syllabus irrelevant. Sent class e-mails to junk mail. We had make-up classes because of the holdiays (didn't know that was allowed). I've never had a teacher that was so awful at communicating with students. Won't change his teaching methods to suit his own students. Avoid!!!
Awesome Teacher! Different style, but if you go to class everyday and check your emails (he doesn't send yours to junk, just prefers office/phone) then you will know exactly whats expected of you. Thoroughly reviews topics that will be on tests beforehand! Tends to ramble, but it's relevant to material if your listening and will help you on tests!
He's actually a really good prof.! He lets the class chose when assignments are due, when to have tests, and what type of test we want to have. The assignments really aren't that hard. He's definitely different from any other teacher, but he's super nice! And he responds to emails but he just prefers you call. Plus he's really entertaining in class
He is really nice, always willing to help students, & always in his office. Although at times the due dates of assignments can be unclear, he is very lenient and lets the class decide a lot of due dates etc. He does take attendance but its only a small portion of your grade so you can afford to miss a few classes.
Safavi is a smart, energetic, helpfull and involved teacher. Although he may allow you to petition for a higher score from time to time; he ensures you can display a functional understanding of the subject matter if and when he chooses to award additional points.
Great teacher! He's absolutely hilarious in class and is always in a cheerful mood. He stays in his office just about 24/7 so he's always available to help. He's not always very clear but he's lenient with deadlines if you approach him respectfully. Great guy! Get ready for an energetic class period!
I don't know where to begin, even though the class is able to decide on when assignments are due, he knows everyone will pick a mult. choice test (@least 60 questions)useless for help on projects. Basically you teach your self, and lectures are useless.
He gets really off track, he's really interesting to listen to but does not follow the book at all. Also when he assigns group assignments he seems to give every group different directions, and is super unclear. You pretty much have to read the entire textbook..
Good proff, he can be unclear with regards to the tests, the review session covers the exam however that is the firt time he introduces you to the material. lectures can be interesting but as the quarter progresses let get old.
Safavi is the most dedicated teacher I have had here at WWU. He will completely bend over backwards to help the student be successful. Although this class does require a great amount of self teaching from the textbook, and lectures seem to drag on, Safavi is very knowledgeable and willing to help the student in anyway possible.
Got an A in this class during winter quarter 2012 but all I remember is him rambling on and on about the former university where he taught (Chico State) and how everyone must be a "Yes Man". He also scheduled two makeup class sessions for the two classes we missed for holidays. How absurd!... Very unclear, very unorganized. Too old
No structure to class, but not hard to get a good grade. Attendance not completely mandatory but sometimes he teaches a few calculations that aren't in the book. you get to chose midterm dates. Doesn't really teach say anything that makes sense during lectures. If you ask for reviews before the midterm, he will say all pages of the text you need.
I don't know where to begin. Just don't take this class. He rambles in class, which is fine, but then tells you a week before the test that almost nothing he has taught is on it and you need to read almost the entire book. EVERYTHING is self taught. He is a very sweet old man but not worth the headache. I wish I had this class with anyone else.
Dr. Safavi rambles, does not cover the materials necessary to succeed on the two tests, does not offer homework or quizzes to guide learning, and does not display convincing knowledge of the subject matter he is teaching. Without the book and study notes from the department, this class would be impossible to pass.
He rambles on about pointless topics that do not relate to the topic at hand. You better be good at taking notes and memorizing a lot of vocabulary since he does not teach the topic very well. He is hard to understand due to his accent and sends a lot of pointless emails.
It's simple, avoid this class if at all possible. The lectures are long and pointless having nothing to do with the midterm or final which are basically the only grades in the class. He just likes to hear himself talk and if you have questions he says come to my office hours so you go and he either isn't there or tells you to come back later.
As Safavi will re-iterate to you over and over, he is a "Yes Professor" which means he is always able to help you and he WILL make sure you pass and do well in this class. His lectures are honestly terrible but if you read along with what the syllabus says you should have read up to, you'll understand what he's trying to convey in his lectures.
Good professors. Very dedicated and knowledgeable. Lecture are a bit boring. Attendance is not mandatory but sometimes he told some useful information, such as which pages and sections to read so you don't have to read the whole book. As long as you read what he told you to, you will do fine on exams. There is a group project and extra credit.
Safavi is hilarious. A little hard to understand his accent sometimes. Tests are easy and he tells you exactly what to study. He is definitely crazy but very interesting, passionate about marketing, and an extremely easy grader. I'm 99% sure he has alcohol in his coffee mug. I'll drink to that.
Safavi is nice and cares a lot about students but he really doesn't teach anything. There are times where class is interesting but mostly he spends the entire time describing a concept that should have taken 5 minutes. You need to read every chapter and essentially teach yourself the material if you want to learn. I would take with someone else.
At the beginning of the quarter I though the was super cool and inspirational. He really knows his stuff and is really funny; always says he's a "yes man" and it's true. But overall the course was HORRIBLE! The tests are written by the department based on the text and he does not go over the chapters or teach from them. Be ready to read the text!
If you're looking for someone to take 380 with, listen up. Safavi may be crazy, old, and delusional, but he is a dedicated professor and wants everyone to get an A. I've had him for MKTG380 and 486 both times he rescheduled our midterm because he didn't think we were ready. He's awesome if you get to know him. Easy.
Safavi is the best! He definitely teaches differently than anyone I've ever had. He is more dedicated than any professor too. Do the extra credit and your grade will be increased i.e. B+ to A-. It's a fun class.
Safavi is by far the WORST professor I've ever had, but @ same time he really cares about his students and pushed back our midterm. He lectures through his mouth, no PPT- absolutely no structure. You essentially teach yourself through the textbook. If you do the EC assignment you get a WHOLE letter grade up. The class is really hit or miss.
Safavi's class was interesting. The structure is sort of hard to follow, he only lectures so be sure to write down everything he says. He does a review session for tests which gives you all you need to study for for them which is super helpful. Safavi cares about his students a lot and I would definitely take this class again!
Not sure how anyone could be negatively reviewing this guy. He is a YES professor. Ask a question; rationalize it, he will answer yes. Great guy, funny, interesting; and he will drink to anything. Take safavi, your mornings will be full of wonder and confusion, but you will be happy about it. I DRINK TO THAT
I had Marketing 380 with him last winter 2017. He is really awesome. skilled professor with huge knowledge. Available for any kind of question or help, out of class, at any time. So respectful person.I had lots of frustrating experience in WWU with some other Professors, but I never had any experience like this at Western Washington University.
Excellent master of marketing, a great teacher and articulate leader
I feel so conflicted about rating professor Safavi. He is a charming, funny, and respected guy but the class is all over the place. Deadlines and due dates were shifted constantly. He truly cares about his students and will always be willing to work with you if you don't understand something. The lectures were disjointed and tangents.
I took International Marketing with Safavi and loved it! He is hilarious and has a lot of real life knowledge. He really challenges the students and connects what you learn to real life situations. He challenges you to dive into the financials to back up your work. That said he is disorganized and gets sidetracked easily in lectures.
He is the best Professes that I've ever had. He works hard and spend a lot of his time to his student and teach them the lesson of real life. you can learn a lot of thing about your course+hope+be hardworking people + fun and ... he teach you "you must not be stopped", "How you can make a team", "Team work", "How you can do some impossible thing.
He's a funny guy but you don't learn a lot in his class. He goes off topic a lot and talks about his personal experience which is helpful but not for the exam. I basically had to teach myself everything from the textbook because his lectures are so unorganized and off topic. Wouldn't recommend taking him.
Although Safavi does not teach very well, he is an amazing and respected man that wants to see you succeed. With that being said, his lectures are super fun and he's extremely funny, but, if you don't have the book, you won't like your overall grade.
Dont get me wrong, I took Safavi for 380 like everyone else but THIS was a whole 'nother experience. His INTL MKTG class has so much work from a final group presentation/paper to last minute research analyses via discussion board. His lectures are just him "reviewing" for the next test (listing out topics you need to know).
Showing up to class everyday was a struggle. His class was all over the place, due dates changed, he rambles a lot. I got a higher grade on my transcript (extra credit I think) but it's hard to be in his classes because he talks slow and rambles, goes off topic and it could easily be done in an hour and his classes are almost two.
Safavi is super passionate and funny and wants students to do well. Sometimes goes off topic during lectures.
Honestly the dude just hasn't figured out how to teach online. It seems like he was good in person but he legit spends half of every class complaining about online teaching, and then when he actually does lecture it goes almost nowhere. Straight up considering asking for a refund because this isn't a good use of my money (and I didn't learn)
He calls on you randomly in the class and spends class time wondering where the other students aren't. Goes off on tangents for the entire class. DOESN'T TEACH!
He's definitely not used to teaching online, and it shows. He spent over 30 minutes every class waiting for everyone to show up. He is VERY UNCLEAR on grading expectations and lecture material and the overall structure is UNORGANIZED! The tests aren't too bad but they are LONG, 100 questions for the midterm and 100 for the final...
Worst lectures I've ever had. Spent a very significant amount of time complaining about people not showing up (roughly the first 10-20 minute of every class), which in turn caused even fewer people to show up. I think he might be decent in person but this was a seriously annoying class where we learned nothing.
I don' normally rate teachers in the first few weeks on class but I don' know people can give Safavi bad ratings. First day of class and just keeps making the whole class enjoyable and funny. We are laughing together almost the whole time with his jokes and content as far as I can tell, as of right now, sign up for Safavi's class. You will enjoy it
Okay so when you first meet him, hes a bit all over the place. But he really wants his students to succeed in class. We got to decide what was on the midterm and he grades easy so dont stress about doing well or not. Every quiz question is on quizlet. Group project is easy if have good teammates - he gives a template as to what hes looking for.
He has no computer literacy. All of the assignments will have the wrong due date. He doesn't respect your time or money. The syllabus still isn't correct three weeks in. People say he's funny, he's fine. He sure thinks he's funny though. Any reasonable professor would put the outline for the group project on canvas. He doesn't. It's infuriating.
The lectures are hilarious, simply put. Some people get frustrated with the disorganization but the quizzes and tests are pretty much based off the lecture slides. And the test questions are straight from the quizzes. So you can literally just come to class and laugh and never take notes in class, and still get a good grade.
Literally lost my midterm score. How do you even do that? Lectures are required and useless. Doesn't respect your time. Nothing will be on canvas, don't expect the syllabus to be accurate. Horrible with technology, worse with memory. Don't expect to actually learn anything, but it's an easy A. Should have retired years ago.
Normally I do not leave reviews, but I've struggled with sicknesses and keeping up with studies and he was very understanding of that and let us do the presentation a week later despite being a little last minute. He even offered to help me financially if I needed it. Just communicate with him as he is understanding, caring, and generous.
Can be intimidating but he cares about the students, you can easily negotiate your grade, he is very flexible. He can be hard to understand at times because English isn't his first language and is not good at technology. 1 midterm/half pricing table; 1 final; 1 group presentation; and some canvas quizzes. Now I'll be taking my trip to Hawaii :^)
Professor Safavi, is a great man. Although sometimes hard to understand, he is one of those professors that truly care for ANY student. He will tell you he is a "yes" man, and he really is. He is easy to reach and very kind and helpful. This class's material is not very tough, and he makes it fun to learn. We love you Safavi!
Only graded on quizzes, which are online and can be answered with Google. The midterm and final were composed primarily of those quiz questions, so just memorize the answers. He's not very tech-savvy, and his lectures are dry and often fail to reach a point. He can be frustrating, but if you ask him about something directly, he usually cooperates.
I only got through this class because I am a self-led learner and had a textbook covering material that was easy to digest. Attendance is mandatory but I was bored out of my mind because he would talk about unrelated things 90% of the time. When he did cover the material, he read the slides word for word that came with the textbook. Easy A
Professor Safavi is an incredibly passionate professor who has a very firm grasp on marketing from both an academic and professional perspective. Be ready to participate he calls on people frequently. His quizzes are online, and so is the textbook. Be ready to learn about world history and geography, they come up very frequently.
Easily the worst professor I've had. Talks very slowly about random stuff for 90% of the class and then in the last 10 minutes speeds through the slides. Lectures are required and useless. He is incredibly unorganized, the hardest part of the class is figuring out what he wants you to do, work itself is easy. Don't be fooled by the positive reviews
The sweetest old man. His lectures can be very long and irrelevant to the material but trust me, as long as you make it to class and take the quizzes, you'll get an A. Safavi is here for us: the students and it shows as he gives us plenty of opportunities for good grades. Overall, take this man for MKTG 380 and you'll get the best grade.
Safavi isn't a bad person; he's just too old to keep up with modern concepts, which leads to sidetracked rumbling during lectures. His lectures are long-winded and boring, his lectures are mandatory, he has a seating chart, and takes attendance. The way he teaches isn't the most effective, but the environment of his class is enjoyable.
Very nice and caring. His lectures are all over the place, and encompass history, geography, geology, and economics as well as marketing. He's available at all hours of the day until LATE at night. One day, he spent the first hour of class showing us pictures proving he has been to every country. He cares about his students and their success a lot.
It's criminal that Safavi doesn't have 5 stars. He cares deeply about his students, and will always help you get your grade to an A. It's not a boring business class, it's so much more. The best thing I have done in college is meet Safavi. He is an excellent teacher, and an amazing person over all. It's a great privilege to take a class with him.
Most people don't know Safavi is a foundational pillar of Western and part of the reason CBE even exists. Those critical/negative reviews are likely of students who are unable to listen/appreciate good advice from an older person. Safavi is not your average teacher, in the best way possible. He TRULY cares about his students and useful learning.
If you show up to the lectures it is highly likely you will get an A. Safavi is funny, has great insight, and will always make time to help any students/answer any questions. His lectures may seem off-topic, but they really do teach more important things than most business classes I've encountered. Great teacher.
Get ready for a crazy ride. Safavi had the biggest heart of any professor I had at WWU, and was hands down the funniest. He will say he's your "24/7 yes-man", and he's not lying. This man will literally respond to emails at 3am if you need him. He's definitely getting up there in age, but he's a very smart guy with lots of knowledge and experience.
