dont listen to the moron above me. anyone who puts in time and effort and has a decent head on their shoulders will do fine. he is hard, but is very available for those who need extra help. is very good about make-ups. .. and his classes are full of good discussions. slightly unclear, but not bad

I agree w/ the last dude.....if you wanted top notch teaching you wouldnt have slacked off in high school and done your work and went to a good school instead of a comm college. Dr. Malek is an excellent teacher w/ a good head on his shoulders and lots of great stories to tell, i look forward to his class every week. Not to mention I do have a bunch of hot chicks in there, that also helps

Just finished a summer course with Dr Farshad and I dont even know what my grade is yet (I am guessing a B+ or A-). Anyways though the course was a pleasure, honestly. I learned a lot and i was amazed alot at how interesting and eye opening sociology is.

Fantastic teacher, his clarity is fine, you just need to be an intelligent student with the ability and yearning to learn. Inspired me to pursue another degree in Sociology. Class was a pleasure and not nearly as hard as most people say. Thanks!

I liked this class can't say he is easy you must put time into reading and going over your class notes...but you'll never be bored

need to attend all classes and pay attention. there is a test for every chapter. tests are very hard. he's not a bad teacher but it was much more difficult than it needed to be.

Dr. Farshad is not bias against women. Are you kidding me? He treats everyone with respect. If you don't study, your not going to do well, thats the bottom line.

His English is just fine!!!!!! I don't know what you people are complaining about. It's into to Sociology, how interesting can it be? He's going by the book, its not his fault.

Dr.Farshad is very clear with his english, had no trouble understanding him. He makes sociology fun by giving examples. If you dont put the time in to read the chapter's you wont pass, thats not his fault thats student's being lazy.Awesome teacher! one of the best i have had, would love to take a class with him again. ASKED to drop the course??? i dont get it,any moron knows you dont need teachers permission to drop, i surely didnt need to ask my bio prof. i think your making this up and thats just evil...i personally like dr. farshad alot he cares so much, when i went to his office to discuss asignment he spent so much time to make sure i understood what to do

This was one of the BEST courses I ever took...had to work hard but truly enjiyed it too

Best of my classes this past year...exams are not hard at all (well they were not hard for me, i did study for them though) and assignments are too easy most of all i learned so much

Dr. Malek can be tough if you do not put in the time to study or read the chapter. He is easy to understand and gives good examples for everything he is trying to teach. He is also very good at answering questions and providing feedback. Great teacher for students who like to study, bad teacher for slackers.

I am taking this course online too and already I am thinking about the discussions we are having all the time. course makes me think. seems to be a great taecher hope i feel the same way to the end :)..he did seem a bit annoyed after some students mass emailing but he was def NOT rude, he asked us very nicely to ask him first if we have questions

I'm not sure why everybody dislikes him. I'm taking him online also and I don't see the problem. He's extremely helpful. I don't think he's rude, I just think he's extremely intelligent and some people just take him the wrong way.

I dont think i am getting more than a C or C+ in this class, but I have learned a lot more than another subject that im getting an A in...why badmouth good teachers just bcause your not passing or getting the grade you want? i think Dr. Farshad is an excellent teacher i just had too much on my plate to do better

i work very hard for this class much hrder than i thought but i love Dr. Farshad he's such a nice man and an exellent teacher...i am in the calss that started w/23 today there were around 15-16 in clas...3 never showed up from the beginning he takes attendance every class and they were never there...this class has OPENED MY EYES i recommend him

I took this professors class last semester and he was one of the best teachers I ever had. I liked having many exams because each time I had to study for only one chapter.

He's really great if you're open minded about the subject. If you have a question, he won't move on until you understand it. Tests are almost all multiple choice and pretty easy if you pay attention and study. I had no interest in sociology going into the class, but because of him it's my favorite subject and I might even major in it.

Dr. Farshad is a brilliant educator. Very thorough, responsive, and provides many resources for us to understand the chapter at hand. He also writes excellent lecture notes for our online class. I would highly recommend taking Sociology with Dr. Farshad. You will end up loving it. -mg

I can honestly say that Dr. Malek was the best teacher I have ever had, and his class was also the best class I ever took. He really cared about his students. His tests were tough, but if you studied you'd be fine. Tests are almost exclusively based on class discussions, and if you take good notes you'll be golden. Brilliant, and extremely helpful!

Very good teacher. Really passionate about what he teaches. If you pay attention and take notes you should do fine in the class. Make sure you study for his tests because they can be a little hard but if you need extra help just ask him, he's more than happy to help. If he gets too serious, crack a joke. He can take them.

Before I took this course I thought it was going to be real easy. It wasn't, but I really enjoyed the class even if my final grade B brought my gpa down a bit. If you want an easy course don't take him but if you are willing to do the work, I recommend him he is also very funny.

I don't usually come to this site as I am too busy studying, but my boyfriend was looking at it and I was curious. Dr. Farshad is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Yes, I worked hard too.

A very nice teacher, you learn and might just decide to major in sociology like I did. I am at UConn right now and one ofmy professors is impressed withmy knowledge of sociology

mixed feelings i learned lot but never thought i had to work as much chemistry yes everyone knows its tough i also found that sociology can be challenging too besides it really changed my whole outlok on life, i am a lot more alert abiout so much around me that i just never paid attention to before i feel better about myself now more confident

this professor was avaialble every time i went to him with questions. once he even helped me with a personal crisis i was going through with the courts, he advised me what to do and i did, the judge in the case ruled inmy favor. most of the time though my questions were about sociology, but he said tome that my personal issue was sociological too.

I had to study hard but it was worth it. after taking sociology i don't let anyone disrespect me or mistreat me any more. this class opened my eyes i still see the professor in hallways and he is so ever pleasant

in all my classes i do well in this one too i did well too but i had to study alot more my only suggestion is to cover more of the textbook though i loved class discussions we had i took good notes in class which helped mea lot do well in tests coz their were questions from both class discussions and textbook chapters this course i liked him alot

I took him in spring of 2013 together with my cousin..I got an A she a C we both really liked him and are planning to take him next semester if he teaches something else that we need.

He is one of nicest professors ive had expects alot but tells u how to do well which i am i can go see him any time and he puts aside whtever hes doing and makes sure i understand and all my questions are answred

Dr Farshad makes it fun I took his class two years ago and we used to laugh so much maybe it was a coincident but I worked hard and my advisor now in UCLA knows him they went to the same university he told me dr Farshad helped him with a research project that was due the next day so he was able to hand it in on time and pass

in my one year at nvcc before i ransferred this was the best class i had there i am still using some of what i learned then..i worked hard

I am really enjoying this class good way to start my day at 8 am

He seems difficult at first, but once the class gets a feel for each other then he opens up, &he's adorable. Take avid notes in class&readknow the book: the tests are literally info from lecture AND the book. You'll be better off if you participate in class, but if you don't, the assignments make up for it. Definitely go to class & do your work

Thanks to taking this class, I am now a sociology major and I LOVE it. This is my calling and I hate to think where I would be had I not taken Dr. Farshad's class. I did have to work hard though but it was surely worth it. It changed the direction of my life and I cannot thank him enough for that. I have started compiling my new dictionary.

You guys scared me first, I thought I wasn't even going to pass but I am pretty sure I'll get an A in this course yayyyyyyyy actually thanks for scaring me into working hard

My best class this term he works with you to make sure you do well I sure did.

He is nice, funny and very likable i had to work hard tho it was all worth it class was like traveling around the world

I am having fun with this class and learning, class discussions are the best of all my 5 classes...I am thinking about things that I would have never thought of

Although this class was difficult, the professor told all of the students what you need to do in order to pass on the first day. He expected all students to read each chapter 3 times, and take notes. If you do this and you do the weekly lecture summaries, there is no reason that you shouldn't do well.

This is the best class I have taken. Professor is very respectful and sensitive to students' needs. When I went to see him he stayed a whole hour with me to make sure all of my questions and concerns were answered and I left his office totally relaxed. Take him and learn about life. Taking this class helped me deal with so much in my ps life to

not sure if he fully understands the concept of an online class or just doesn't care to make it more convenient for the students. He posts lecture notes one day at a time, instead of giving us access the second we start a new ch/module. He also has a habit of announcing when the ch. exam will be posted but only gives you 2-3(max) to take the exam.

No opportunities to boost up your grade w/ the online course. Your exams are 60% of your grade. He kind of randomly chooses when he wants to post a asgmt which we only had 4 but its considered class par. 15% & for the final asgnmt which is 5% of final grade, he grades last minute & no fdbk, no short quizzes to help improve your grade or anything.

We have only had a few classes this term(Spring 2016) and I am already so much into this class. i never though sociology was such an amazing subject. I can't wait to learn more. He is truly inspirational and I would surely take him again.

This is my second sociology class with him, so caring and helpful. He is adorable.

The best class I've taken at NVCC. In my other online class we didn't do anything only reading the textbook, this one was different. I learned so much in addition to the textbook. A class that could have been just reading chapters, I learned so much. I am transferring to UConn.

I took this class last fall and I can't wait to take him again. He is teaching a higher level sociology next semester and I am very excited because I can take him again. It was my best class and we had so much fun and learned so much too.

I just had him for an online class and overall I liked it a lot. He lays out the class for you, so you will what has to be done at what time. Sometimes he can be late posting things but other than that he is fine. Pretty easy class as well.

I transferred last year to UConn and this was the BEST class I took at NVCC.

As much as I liked him, I wouldn't take him again ONLY because he was kind of disorganized. Other than that, he was pretty good. Read the chapter, take notes, or listen to the lectures and take notes. Tests are a little hard, but managable. Always do the summaries, just put your notes into sentences, not hard at all.

I graduated in May of 2016 and this was the BEST class I took at NVCC. Because I took his class I am now a Sociology major studying at UConn. Storrs. Not only we learned so much we also had lots of fun while learning. Participation in his class was so much more than all other classes I took at Naugatuck Valley CC. He is also very ethical.

I took Dr. Farshad's class online in Spring of 2016 before graduating in May of 2016. And it was the BEST class I took at the college. In my other online classes we only read the textbook and took exams. In this class, we learned so much as his lecture notes were very informative and we had lots of substantial discussions and assignments.

I am graduating in May. Of all classes I took at NVCC, this one was the BEST. Not only we learned so much, we also had lots of fun while learning. Because I took his class, I decided to major in sociology . I am studying at UConn-Storrs now.

This class changed my life for the BEST. Because I took his class, I am now a sociology major at Columbia University in NYC and plan on getting my Ph.D. in sociology.
