She is amazing! She is so sweet and caring and of you have a problem she will def. help you. I am the worst at math and hate it, but she helped me understand it. Best math teacher i have ever had!!!
Good teacher, she really helps with math and explains it so its clear and understandable.
She is such a sweet teacher but expect to do HW online every night, she re-opens the HW for you to catch up twice in the semester. Her test are pretty hard. I have a low B high C? But we'll see how the semester ends. She is a good teacher but missing class one day will throw you off (but that's with any math class). She gives a CUMULATIVE final FYI
She sucks!
She was very organized. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. Systematic and clearly defined new terms making it easier to learn and follow.
I have taken her class more than once because she is so nice and helpful. She genuinely wants everyone to do good job and always asks for feedback and uses it for future classes. She gives a lot of opportunities to raise your grade around midterms and finals which helps most people. I recommend her!
NOT GOOD TEACHER AT ALL !!!!
Fabulous teacher! The best notes and study guides. Picky on wording, but very helpful. Really enjoyed this teachers method, it was clear and appropriate to what I needed to know.
super approachable and not intimidating. very helpful but you must stop her if you have a question. overall wants everyone to do well.
Great teacher! She was very helpful and always made sure the class understood the lesson. I took math 103 last semester and had a really hard time, I struggled less this semester thanks to her helpfulness. The class is pretty hard due to the subject matter. Prof Maddux is always willing to help though.
Such a sweetheart and very helpful! Her lessons are thorough and clear, and her study guides are extremely helpful.
Fantastic Teacher! Highly Recommend! Cares about students and likes to see you succeed! Clear lectures. Just take notes, do online hw every night and study and you should do good. I will be taking her classes for sure in the future.
Such a great teacher! Her teaching technique is very clear and she motivates you to do you best. Breaks down the lecture into steps. Easily one of the best math teachers on campus!
Professor Maddux is one of the best at West Valley! She makes stats easy to learn if you actually try. She provides fill in the blank lesson notes which are EXTREMELY helpful :) In-class assignments are a big part of your grade, so make sure you show up for class! This was my 3rd time taking stats and I got an A without killing myself over it :)
She was good. Her tests were difficult at times but as long as you study the material and take advantage of the notes you should pass. The project is not so bad. She had rules regarding the final that were weird (need ID to make sure you're you, backpacks at the front of the room, etc.)but I she has her reasons I suppose.
4 Tests, 5-6 Quizzes (Mostly online), and 1 Final. 1-3 Homework assignments a week through WebAssign. Overall the teacher explained the material clearly. The tests aren't too difficult if you keep up with the assignments and come to class.
She is so awesome!! Literally you can't ask for a better teacher!!
While I think that Professor Maddux is very kind, soft-spoken, and caring towards her students, I would not recommend her class. I had difficulty understanding her lectures , the homework assignments did not reflect the material discussed (dedicate 2+ hours each night for HW), and she was hard to reach outside of class due to her busy schedule.
Mrs. Maddux is very clear in her lectures and gives you detailed notes to print out so you don't have to waste any time writing anything down. I've never even had to open my book. Come to class, pay attention, and you'll pass. I struggle with math and I'm passing this class with an A with 2 weeks to go. She's a great teacher, and extremely kind.
Usually late to class, not clear in lectures. Wouldn't recommend.
I have Mrs Maddux right now for Math 3A, and she is hands down one of the best math teachers!! I highly recommend her. You have to put effort into her class, but she is always willing to help. Tests aren't that difficult if you study notes and do the homework! Overall I would take her again!!
She is super sweet and will always try and help you with what you need. If you listen to her in class and do all of your in class and homework problems you will pass with a good grade. She is meticulous about interpretations so make sure to follow instructions. She is shy sometimes so ask lots of questions in class! She's very reasonable
Faun overall is a great person! Her teaching methods just did not click with me, she crams all her lectures with not enough time to go over work and ALWAYS makes us stay later after class because she never gives herself enough time. Her tests are extremely hard because she marks off every single point that you dont do ( show calculator work, minor)
she is not bad. but she get very much home work every day 20 questions and every weeks have quize
Terrible class. Hated every minute of it. She makes the class unbearable. Expect to spend at least 2-5 hours/night working with online hw. She also grades really harshly. Avoid if you can.
Maddux is so sweet and nice, and what she wants from you is clear. With that being said, she is fairly reasonable with attendance, but tests are pretty hard. The final is accumulative and having to remember 10 chapters with not even a notecard of the equations to help BITES. She makes the class bearable, but make sure you do the work and study!!
Her class can be really difficult at times. It was really hard for me to get help because she teaches a bunch of other classes and her office hours were hard to make. But if you manage to talk to her outside class, she is usually very kind and wants you to do well. It is definitely a really tough class though, no doubt about it.
Faun is a wonderful instructor. She is such a sweetheart and always has the students best interest in mind. If you need help, you have her full support. Get the assignments done and you won't have a problem passing her class. Her teaching style is very clear and she takes time to address any questions throughout the lecture. Highly recommended!
I have always been mathematically challenged and hated math. I took her class and ACTUALLY enjoyed math. Never thought I'd say that!
Professor Maddux is a very caring teacher who creates an excellent learning environment in her classroom. Math is not my strong point, but I truly enjoyed this class and learned a lot. If you want to succeed, it's an absolute must to come to every class, ask questions, and do the homework. I highly recommend!
This teacher grades recklessly. She takes points off for no logical reason. My resulting answer were all correct on my test and she insists that my answers are incomplete because I did not solve the problem the way she expects it. I am concerned about her grading methods. I think she is narrow minded in regards to the ways one can solve a problem.
Face paced class. Answers all questions. Will be time consuming at times. She's a good teacher, but the topic itself can be confusing sometimes.
I absolutely despised Math until taking Mrs. Maddux! I would suggest taking her whenever possible. She is incredibly patient and very clear in the way she teaches and grades. Homework can be a little "heavy" but it helps you in the end! She is very kind, easy to talk to and responds within a day or two to messages. A+ Professor.
She kinda explains things in a harder mathematical way rather than in normal vocab...
I dislike her perspective of learning. I don't agree that she makes us do excelled problems on our hw. I mean we just learned the curriculum the day of, now the homework of 20 problems is due the next day. We just learn basic stuff from her lectures but the homework is NOT her lectures... got tutored by a teacher and she even got 3 hw probs wrong..
2 WVC math teachers inspired me to love math again after struggling in HS... after taking maddux, ive been so confused and feel so discouraged with math again.. i cant believe this. I worked so hard but the homework is too hard and she doesnt let us use calculators to answer Qs faster on tests...
Professor Maddux gives amazing notes; they summarize the book perfectly. It's an extremely difficult class, but Professor Maddux does a good job supporting her students through it!
She has so much patience for her students, so nice and is always ready to teach. When you ask her questions she doesn't make you feel dumb. She gives points for going to class, if you miss class you will fall behind easily. Do all the hw, show up to class, ask questions, study for the tests (she allows a notecard for formulas) and you'll pass
Mrs. Maddux was one of the best teachers I had last year! She's super nice and very approachable, so it's not hard to get help if you need it. I would 100% take her again.
Faun is so sweet and understanding. I had her for two semesters and she was pretty decent. She can be unclear about some things while teaching, so ask lots of questions. Not easily accessible out of class, so talk to her when you're in class or right after. Will help you with anything you need and just a sweetheart.
Faun is so sweet! I've taken 2 of her classes. Explains things well. Very understanding and will work with you if you have questions or aren't getting something. One of my favorite teachers on campus.
I don't like the way she teaches Doesn't go straight to the point. She will only take solutions she teaches and not others in the test even though it's correct. Avoid this professor.
Faun Maddux is the kindest teacher I have ever had. She helped me realize I was a visual learner which really helped me learn from the way she was teaching. She explains difficult concept extremely well to the class.
I used to somewhat enjoy math, and now I utterly despise it. The class was so blazingly fast paced and she grades extremely harshly. If you don't show your work in the exact way she wants she will dock you for a lot of points even if your answer is correct. The homework is also very hard, and there is a lot of it. I would not recommend her at all.
She's a good teacher but she's not very understanding. Her exams are extremely hard and if lecture is done she makes you stay past lecture. She won't give you the benefit of the doubt and doesn't grade with partial credit even though she claims she does. Do the HW and study guides. Quizzes almost every week or every other, online & in class.
She was wonderful for Math 106, plenty of study guides and it looked like she genuinely enjoyed teaching Algebra 2. Math 2 was a different story, she missed several days and tried cramming things in instead of omitting them and suddenly no longer did study guides because we were in, "upper division math". Take her for 106 or lower.
Professor Maddux has been the worst math professor I have ever had. The way that she teaches is from the perspective that all of her students are math majors. This means that her tests are unfairly difficult, asking questions which are arbitrarily difficult, and do not test the material covered. I went from straight A's to C's because of her class.
I hear Maddux is a better teacher for the 4A-4C calculus classes- maybe her strong suit isn't 3B. I took her class in the fall, and she would waste time for the majority of class just to cram several important topics into the last 10 minutes. This was difficult because our homework on WebAssign often asked much more difficult q's than in lecture.
GIVES NO TIME TO STUDY FOR THE EXAMS &TESTS ARE BASED ON STUFF SHE TEACHES THE SAME WEEK. She is absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. She's very unclear and makes lectureS very difficult. Copy-pasting the book is her method of teaching and still makes tons of errors. She doesn't care if the students get the concept, and just keeps teaching.
Maddux is super nice. I took the combo class of trig and pre-calc. It was a hard class to begin with, but Maddux is great. She gives the grade you deserve. ALL the homework was online and the textbook access was online too, but no textbook needed. She gave printable notes which are super helpful and the study guides are the best things ever.
Although she is nice and there are notes we can print off of canvas, she takes way to long going over problems that should only take a couple minutes. Always somehow get behind in the notes and schedule from the syllabus so dont get much review time for tests. Tough grader, if answer is not in exact wording she wants you will get points off.
She's a good professor, kind of shy and quiet, so you might get sleepy in class if you don't participate. She wants you to pass, and will set aside time to help you if you need it. If you don't do well in the class, but you've shown progress throughout the semester, she will be pretty generous for your final grade. She enjoys talking with students.
Maddux is a very nice person and a good teacher. However, she is an extremely harsh grader. Even if your answers are correct, if your work does not have proper notation or restate the problem specifically, you'll be heavily penalized-- one of my tests dropped from an A to a B because of this, so make sure to be very thorough in stating your answer.
Not worth the effort.
She is an awful teacher. She doesn't give any review days or study guides for her tests. Her lectures are very confusing and disorganized. When I've gone to her for help, she was not helpful at all and didn't seem to care whether her students understand the information. She's late every class and holds the whole class late so she can cram a section
She is very knowledgable about the subject and approachable but overall it was not an organized class. Some material was often crammed the day before an exam and she consistently showed up to class late. Lectures were not very organized and examples in the class were not representative of homework/exams
Sweet, but consistently late to class, way too long reviewing the simplest problems, you will teach yourself almost all material, sometimes couldn't even solve her own problems and posted it to canvas after the assignment was due. NO study guides, NO notecards. She was late to one of our exams and took 20 min off exam time. Didn't get up to teach.
There is quite a lot of homework in this class but it can all be done relatively quickly if you focus. She makes things super easy to understand and she evidently wants her students to succeed. Some of the quizzes are online and open notes so it is easy to get an A. You have to show up to class though and sign in or else your grade WILL drop.
Very caring, but the class is somewhat disorganized. She is able to explain mathematical concepts well, but the exams tend to not reflect the homework. Overall I believe she is better professor for Calc I and trig. If you put in the work, you can at least get a B.
Don't get me wrong she's super sweet and her dog is cute, but she skips steps that are necessary to understand the course material. I found that I had to do a lot of self-learning to try to get by and it still wasn't enough. Online platform is not good and she knows it.
This was my second class with this prof, and it wasn't any better than the first. Lots of homework through Mymathlab, but the questions on the homework are way harder than the example problems she does in class. Makes everyone really confused. Tests have a huge impact on overall grade. Points from homework hardly do anything. Barely got a B.
I enjoyed Mrs. Maddux's class because she's a cheerful and knowledgable teacher. Don't be fooled though, the class is very tough! The majority of the grade is based on tests and homework is mandatory to pass. The material became easier to learn when participating in the lectures. I would take this course again with a longer lecture session.
Faun Maddux is really supportive, extreamly positive, and creative in her teaching. In the online format she really switches it up, getting us to work in groups, taking time to explain and try out the material with her. I had not taken a math class in a long time so I was really nervous, I love her class! So glad I lucked out with this instructor
Professor Maddux is THE queen of my heart. She's like an extra mom. Her class definitely requires that you show up and take notes on her examples, but all of her exams were take-home this semester, she's flexible with deadlines as long as you have an excuse, and she's always trying to brighten your day! Super accessible, wish she taught 3B <3
I was really impressed with the scheduling of this course. I took combo tirg/calc online. She sets a prestigious syllabus and then constantly adjusts the schedule throughout the course based on the needs of the class. She is approachable, explains things well, and cares a lot about the success of her students. I highly recommend her!
Truly a gem, who loves math and you can feel it. It was an adjustment transitioning to zoom, the lectures are clear and precise. Participation and homework are a must high expectations but she assures you can get there with effort. If you show up, suit up on camera it makes all the difference. Cares about her student's success with a heart of gold!
Maddux is an amazing math teacher & really wants to see you excel!I've taken two math classes with her. There is consistent homework, but with math this is super crucial to learning material. She really cares about her students and explains everything so patiently. I highly recommend everyone to take her classes it has changed my outlook on math:)
Don't let the 3.5 rating scare you. Calculus is a difficult class, but Professor Maddux is an amazing and caring professor. She is very patient when explaining concepts and makes sure that her students understand. Lots of homework so keep on top of it, but she is very understanding, so speak to her if you need help.
I walked in this class with a C in precalc and and was scared of taking calc but I got an A in her class. She is so caring and sweet and made me feel so safe learning in her class. I could ask her a dumb math question and she would answer with care. She really wants her students to understand math and adjusts the course to do so too.
she is a very sweet teacher but i feel like i am not learning anything at all. she goes from one topic to another pretty fast, and often misses major steps or adds way to many steps. also the online homework cite we use, gave me an automatic F and that was pretty annoying. if you're good at math already take her course its an easy A.
Very caring, will give you extensions on homework. The homework is done on MyMathLab, I personally struggle with this. Goes fast on the examples for the problems on the lecture notes. Lecture notes were pdf files on Canvas, which didn't work well for me personally because I didn't retain the information as well from this type of format of notes.
I actually took MATH903. I had her last semester and she was a very nice and caring person but her class was not good to take. She consistently showed up late and class ran over because of that. Her lectures were jumbled around and we were always running behind. She asked if people had questions, but she seemed annoyed by them. But, work was easy.
Completely incompetent. Had to teach myself the whole class. Lectures were very simply and no help at all with the loads of hw. Constantly would say that she was going to give us the exam or study guide and never would. Made everything 4x as difficult. Honestly she is a very nice person but she never ever should have become a teacher.
Faun Maddux is a nice person but not really a good prof. She never really explained topics during lectures, just did example problems. Mostly had to teach myself from the textbook. Luckily her homework and tests are not too difficult if you understand/are prepared, which her classes do not do.
Professor Maddux's really sweet and kind. She'll give an unlimited amount of extensions, within reason, of course.Lecture can be helpful to start understanding concepts, but she doesn't explain a lot of the questions on homework.Homework is done in MyMathLab and they are much harder than the practice ones she does. Grades extremely late, can't drop.
Professor Maddux is an amazing professor. She really cares about your success and will help you every way she can. Her course can be difficult at times, but work through it and you will leave extremely smart & thorough in the subject. No complaints, no regrets.
RUN! ITS NOT WORTH IT! She's completely incompetent, can't run the class. Didn't give us back the tests until after drop date. Doesn't teach you anything then only allows you to solve problems using her method. Awful awful awful!! Genuinely have no idea why she's gotten good ratings! Take someone else she's not worth the trouble I promise
BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD!!!! Delivers the material beautifully + makes hard concepts easy. Class isn't particularly difficult, but you have to put time in. If you don't do all of the homework (sometimes 30 problems) of course the exams will be difficult. I've gone to every single one of her office hours and she's so helpful, sweet, and kind.
Calculus is a tough class. Prof Maddux is an excellent teacher who cares about her students and wants to help them. Calculus can be difficult and it requires the student to put in a lot of work and time. If you don't, your grades will suffer. Most of the reviews here are about the difficulty of calculus and not her teaching capability. LOVE HER!
Dont need to purchase textbook. Shes sweet and caring. Easy to follow along in lectures. Uses Pearson to do HW which is like $80 for the semester. gives like around 20 questions of hw per section. If you take her synchronously, pay attention to the lectures it will help a lot. If you need to look back to previous lectures, she has them recorded.
TAKE FAUN!!! She is such a lovely teacher and wants her students to succeed. She'll give homework extensions to anyone who asks and she has office hours four times a week. Extra credit on exams. I learned so much in this class and loved her instruction. This class has a lot of homework, but that's typically for the course level. Awesome teacher.
One of the nicest professors I've ever had. Difficult class but Maddux is great at both explaining concepts and answering questions. Homework done through MyMathLab, usually takes at least 1.5 hours. Exams definitely require studying. Records her lectures and posts them on canvas. Aside from all that Maddux genuinely cares and wants to help you.
Maddux is a great teacher. Cares a lot about her students, is very patient, explains things in depth and has a lot of in-class problem solving. Marks attendance but not religiously. Only caveat is that she's chronically ill or busy and, at least for my class, cancelled class at least eight times. Would totally take again though. It was great.
amazing professor, she was super helpful and kind my entire semester with her, teaching the material well and clearly caring about our learning, going out of her way to stay after class to talk to students about concepts they would struggle with and try to find a better way to help them, also understanding with extensions. 5/5, would take again.
I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy. I noticed her ratings were relatively high, but I realized that they were not for calculus courses. She would be an absolutely amazing middle school teacher. Graded late, pushed back on the day of exams, bad at explaining, passive-aggressive, 3 exams in two weeks, I wish I choose a diff prof.
Don't take. She will constantly cancel class due to complications (which i understand) but right before class starts so you will wait for no reason. This class is extremely content rich and thank god it will not be offered in the future. Overall, she is nice but teaching style is somewhat lackluster and she feels a bit like a middle school teacher.
She was really sweet and encouraging!
Got into class late, the assignments were opened but with late penalties despite me just having been accepted to the class. She locks all the hw 1-2 days before the exam so you need to study without them, but they were basically the whole class. She'll get passive aggressive if you try to reason with her. Quite synchronous for a asynchronous class
If you need to get ahold of this professor for any reason forget about it. Like I sent her 3 emails about something and this lady just didn't respond for 3 weeks. So much homework its unbearable. An assignment every day, 10-15 questions, but like 4 parts for each question. Just take a different professor, this lady isn't the vibe, TRUST.
Great teacher! Extremely understanding with generous late policy (only 5% deduction).
Really nice professor. Hw and tests were all through Pearson ($89 unfortunately :'( ), but discussions and quizzes were through canvas. Textbook was alright, frankly khan academy does it better. Worst part was the homework load; assignments weren't hard, but 4/week of 15-20 questions adds up, especially in calc 3 where every question takes 15 mins.
One of the best math teachers you can ask for. Her class really makes it fun and interesting all the time, while also being sweet and caring to her students. Although there's a lot of homework involved, it's not that much as long as you can study at an average rate and not procrasinate most of the time passing this class. Definitely recommend her.
I took her 4A class spring 2025 and it was really good, I would say she dos have a lot of homework and the problems are tough and can take you a while to do. But the good thing is that her exams are the exact same as her homework. She gives feedback on canvas quizzes. But not exams or homework since they are in Pearson. Easy class if you study.🥰😉
