horrible teacher. We went through 10 chapters in 3 days. She skips around and back and forth.
Complete waste of time, she is scattered, useless, late and lectures too fast. I earned an excellent grade but would not recommend or take her ever. Don't waste your time taking notes, just read the chapters and commit everything to memory.
I got a 4.0 in this class and I didn't learn anything. It is basically a waste of time, but it looks really good on your transcript. She is nice and she gives a lot of extra credit, but her lectures are horrible. She goes way too fast and writes random words on the overhead instead of sentences.
wow she sucks. cant describe what an idiot she is. dont take her class ever, not helpful at all. Teaches in the most backwards way, she is so confused and scattered, students had to constantly corrent her. I HATE HER she made life so confusing
I actually enjoyed her class. If you compare her to other BIO professors, she's been the most helpful. It does seem like she forgets things, but I think that it's because she knows so much that she trys to explain it at an undergrad level for her students to understand.
THIS CLASS WAS NEAR TO IMPOSSIBLE.
as confused a professor i have had. her course is confusing because she is. and I am a major with good grades. may the force be with you if you must go there.
Her class was an excellent preparation, for some of my harder classes. Example's Immunology and Cell Biology, as well if your crying about how hard she is; you haven't even what hard really is. Wait until you hit medical school if you’re pursuing that.
I have a 3.8 and have never had this hard of a time with any class. It was the most ridiculously hard intro course I've ever taken. Dr. Hansen is not qualified to teach anyone; she's unclear, disorganized, and always 10-15 mins. late. If you're considering taking her, do anything you have to do in order to not take her course.
She was very hard and unorganized. Her tests were terrible and most the time there were atleast 3 questions that she would mess up the correct answer on. She is a nice person and gives a lot of extra credit, but you will depend on the extra credit to pass the class. getting help from her is like pulling teeth.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. She would not tell the class what would be covered on tests and was unclear about topics discussed in the lecture. The only positive about her class is that she does allow you several chances to receive extra credit (which will be needed!)
It was a tough class. The extra credit was very decieving- it seemed like alot but you needed it to make up for the test questions that she pulled out of no where. Her test questions were very inconsistent. I would not take her again and would not recommend her. She is definitly an upper level teacher, she is very knowledgable, but too expecting.
She's somewhat disorganized and always late. The tests aren't horrible but she's inconsistent with the types of questions she asks. She does offer lots of extra credit which will help make up for a bad test day.
Very unorganized. She's extremely vague about whats on the test and worst of all, unfriendly. I would not recommend this class to anyone.
Good thing the textbook can teach because she cant. She tries to be nice but its obvious that it is an act, she has no understanding/sympathy and unless you teach yourself, you won't learn a thing. Im not bitter or anything (I got a 3.8) but she really should be fired. She is always late and unorginized and can't answer your questions. DONT TAKE
Professor is absent-minded and poorly organized. Test questions come from out of nowhere. I love how on the study guides it would say something like,"Chapter 12, all". Big help. Despite all this, she gives lots of extra credit, and even if you think you're failing, you probably won't at the end. You have to write a research paper, 8-20 pages.Yuck.
THIS IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!
She is out there. However there is a huge curve and she lets you drop your lowest test grade! Go to class take notes and study and there is no way that you can do bad.
very hard material not simplified enough
Avoid her at all costs! Do ANYTHING you can to stay AWAY from taking her, ESPECIALLY for this class. She's so unorganized, usually teaches things incorrectly, and ALWAYS 5-10 minutes late for class.
I'm currently taking Human Anatomy with her and can't wait for the class to be over!! This professor is always late to class and makes her tests basically impossible. Avoid taking her at all costs!
taking this class right now, and I find her disorganized and confusing. This is my last semester before I graduate, and ive had a lot of BIO profs, she is not a good one. On Moodle, a bunch of us got zeros for test scores and I have been asking her for my grade for 3 weeks and I still dont have it. her notes are confusing and tests are hard.
I'm currently taking her class and it's terrible. She's unorganized with her notes, and covers too much material at one time, making impossible to know everything for the test. Find someone else!
She is a terrible teacher. Unorganized, late, doesn't answer your questions, and doens't tell you whats on tests besides the chapters. DON'T TAKE HER
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!!1 She doesn;t know what she's talking about, late disorganized the students taking the lab have to correct her all the time in class. She is so Aweful. I hope that no one ever has to take a class with her agian. Oh and its a hisotlogy course now instead of anatomy like it is supposed to be.
Worst professor I have ever had!!! Always late to class (30 minutes late to the final). She makes her tests IMPOSSIBLE and doesn't tell you what to study for besides know all 8 chapters in a unit. She never e-mails back and has trouble calculating grades and entering them on moodle. 70% of class has to rake this course. Avoid her AT ALL COSTS!!!
WORST PROFESSOR OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!! she is unclear about everything, and is even confused at what she is teaching. the tests are impossible!!!!!!!!! AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS!
She is the worst teacher ever. Not clear on ANYTHING at all. Im not even sure she knows what shes talking about...she makes me want to rip my hair out. HORRIBLE!! do NOT take her.
VERY VERY BAD!!! This class was ridiculous! She is sooo disorganized and never gives your grades back. Lectures are unclear and boring. Tests are unfairly difficult. Makes the subject matter(which should be interesting)UNBEARABLE!! Unless you want your GPA to plummet...AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
She is very unorganized and unprepared for class periods. Her tests ask questions that are way more in depth than her lectures and are extremely hard. She makes up for everybody failing by giving tons of extra credit, which is not right.
Poor teacher. Obviously smart, but cannot communicate. Very disorganized and does not answer emails. She should stick to research. Perfect example as to why tenure should be abolished. If you get stuck with her, be sure to read the chapter BEFORE the lecture. The scattered lecture will make much more sense.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. She is very smart, and seems to know whats she is talking about, but cannot explain anything at all. I didn't miss a single class, took detailed notes, and read the chapters that went with the lectures, and I still had no clue where half her test questions came from. I definitely don't recommend her class.
At times it seems like there's no way you're going to pass the class because the tests cover so much material, so in depth, in so little time. She knows her tests are difficult and supplements with numerous opportunities for extra points. She is very nice and helpful all you have to do is ask! I received my first 4.0 at OU from her.
she seems lost but she is wonderful....never buy a book for her class cause u r never going to need it...PS:WANNA PASS ATTEND CLASS SHE GIVES XCREDIT ;)
Hansen comes across very smart however she cannot relay that information to her students very well. Her test questions are poorly worded and are difficult to understand. She makes up for exam mistakes with a boatload of extra credit. I did not learn near as much as I should have in this anatomy class (despite my 3.8) and am now struggling in lab.
This is honestly the WORST professor I have EVER had. She is EXTREMELY unclear, and her tests are terrible. The questions rarely make much sense. During class she tosses up a hastily thrown together powerpoint, which is just full of fragmented ideas. She gives extra credit, and she is smart, but a horrid educator. AVOID HER if you want a good GPA!!
I'm a pretty fair person about professors, but Fay Hanson really needs to get into research and out of teaching. She tests off of only her lectures, which are scattered and based around PowerPoint that look to be done by a 2nd grader, so instead of being able to study out of a book, you have NOTHING solid and concise to look through. Be warned.
She is the worst Prof. I have ever had at OU!!! She got furious at my class because someone was whispering during a lecture, so she packed up all of her things and just walked out. She also got livid with another girl because she thought that the girl was taking too many notes in class. I have a good grade, but avoid this useless teacher!
Did not find her teaching style conducive to my learning
Worst teacher I have ever had. Says tests are from notes but notes are lists of words. Says dont need the book but you do to make sense of "notes". Skips around. Cant understand anything she says. Studied for 6 days straight for 2nd test & did WORSE than on the 1st. Impossible to pass this class w/ her "teaching" it. AVOID FAY HANSEN AT ALL COSTS!!
Here are some figures on how majority of the class has done thus far, on the 1st exam, 64% of people got less than 70%, on the 2nd exam, 84% of people got less than 70%, and the 3rd exam, 61% of people got less than 70%. (unclear, scattered, power points with 60-90 slides of scattered ideas) TAKE DR.BEE IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN SOMETHING.
She is awful. I ended up dropping the class because I couldn't afford the grade in my GPA. i even read the book she said we didn't need Stay away from her if you want to learn anything at all. Claims exams are from powerpoints, useless, they are nearly impossible. She's no help, tells you not to e-mail her. Worst professor i've had thus far at OU.
Everything everyone writes about Hansen is pretty true, she's pitiful. I was one of the suckers who actually bought the text even though "we didn't need it". While everyone else's grades were pretty poor, I ended up with a 3.8 teaching myself. If you're fairly independent no problem if you need a good prof avoid at all costs.
Unclear, very hard exams, misleading information, mistakes on the exams, about 80% of the class was failing and she did not care. Do not take this class! You won't learn anything from her. Waste of time and money!
alright, she is very vague with her notes and her drawings aren't helpful.she makes alot of mistakes on her tests.she does give out a little extra credit.i didnt buy the book and i still got a 3.8 by studying her notes over and over pretty much until i memorized them.if you can, take Bee, but if you get stuck with hansen, just study and youll be ok
she is the most vague professor i have ever had. she poorly words exams and does not answer questions properly. unfortunately she is the only professor for this section. Avoid her at all costs. if you want to learn, take another professor!!!!!!
Honestly the worst teacher i have ever had. SHE IS A BITch. She wont help you with anything. Avoid her at all costs.
I'd advise to avoid her. If you are willing to put a couple hours in to study for tests, it's not so terrible. However, her slideshow notes are ridiculous and useless. Look for another Prof first.
Lots of helpful medically relevent info..As an "older" student not particularly interested in biology I actually appreciated that she didn't "talk down" to us... tests on her lectures & I got great study tips during her office hours --take the time, work the practice problems in the book, esp. if not used to science multiple choice exams
Dr. Hanson is an amazing professor who really knows her stuff! She is very enthusiastic about the subject of histology and is always striving to help her students succeed. She is always available after class and during office hours and provides test reviews and extra credit. I highly recommend her to everyone!!!
Excellent Professor! Explains everything very well, and cares about her students! She makes the material interesting and is straight forward with what the tests will cover and how to prepare for them. If you go to class regularly, and read the power points you will do EXTREMELY WELL! It was a pleasure taking her class. Will definitely take again!
Taking Histology right now w/ her. First of all, there is a difference between a hard professor and a bad professor. Dr. Hans is NOT a bad teacher, she is just hard. Her tests are pretty hard. Her powerpoints are a bit disorganized, but you can fix that by reading the book (which I always did). If u self-study alot, you will do well here~3.5+ grade
I took Bio 205 in the summer (4 hr evening lectures!) and loved it. It was a HUGE amount of work, but she repeats stuff, test on her lectures and posts power points ...if you don't come to class you are missing out because she gives study tips ...there is no getting around memorizing for anatomy so if you can't hack it, change your career plans..
I took this class because I really liked how she taught 205. great class for pre-meds. starts off hard but everything built up to a big picture in the end...interesting clinical and research applications. tests are pretty thorough- she's hard but pretty laid back overall...she called us "Dr." when she introduced us for our oral eports...cool!
I really enjoyed her class. But be warned, her tests are the furthest thing from easy. I really respect the way she teaches the class, she does not spoon feed you histology, she makes you work for it especially if you want a high score(3.5+). So if your in school for the right reasons (studying & working hard) you'll like her, otherwise, stay away
Previous posts don't do this lady Justis. She is a really nice person, I used to go to her office often, always nice and approachable. I seriously learned Histology from her. I used to HATE reading scientific articles cause I never understood them, but she made us do so many, that now I actually understand them and kinda enjoy them lol.
1. This professor is extremely knowledgeable in the field of histology so you will need to put extra effort in understanding her slides. 2. The colorful slides and pictures are useful; some of the information can be confusing therefore its better understood when simplified. 3. Everything will make sense in the end and you will thank Hansen for it!
Dr. Henson is very knowlegeable, but she goes really fast through the powerpoints. Make sure you pay attention and you should be ok.
Worst Professor I have ever had. She goes way too fast and does not clarify things. In fact she confused me more. And the book is pointless to read because she doesn't even use the same terminology.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. She moves too fast and her lectures are a waste of time because everything is online except the tests. She attempts to use moodle, but it only causes confusion with grades. On a positive note she is nice and knowledgable, but seems to have no idea at how to teach class
Absolutely terrible. She moves way too quickly, and there is a test almost every week. Doesn't cover the material in depth, and teaches directly from the powerpoints which she puts on moodle. Attending class is a waste of time.
Teaches off of powerpoints, and she posts them online, so attendance isn't mandatory. Tests are unclear and not related to material on the lectures. Posts grades on moodle, however, very delayed in returning them and she has a hard time understanding the website.
I didn't care for the way the class was done. It seemed very crammed together and not all that organized. She is a good teacher, but I didn't like her way of teaching.
She did not follow the book very well, so trying to learn from the book after she didn't teach very well was hard. She makes excuses for everything any student complains about or brings up. Tests do no test you on important things, but rather small aspects of the material that is probably not very useful to most of the students. HORRIBLE
Professor Hansen is a very smart teacher. She knows exactly what she's talking about. She goes through the power points fast, but that's why she posts them on moodle. Stopped by her office for a problem on one of my exams and she was extremely helpful. Tough teacher but also a great teacher. Recommended if you want to LEARN!
Dr. Hansen is super nice, but never responds to emails. She offers a ton of extra credit opportunities, which is GREAT, so show up to class! Tests are SUPER hard, especially for non-bio majors. Class is composed of powerpoint slides. Must be willing to put in a lot of study hours in order to do well, more than I have had to in any other class @ OU.
under no circumstance should anyone ever take this professor!
She can be rude and is not very helpful. She takes a very long time to answer e-mails. The assingments are very easy but the tests are very hard. She uses powerpoint for every lecture but she offers a lot of extra credit but most of it is in class.
Dr. Hansen definitely makes you work hard for your grades. She is very knowledgeable, treats you like a colleague, and refuses to spoon feed the material. Although it is difficult, you will probably learn more in this class than any you have taken for years, and will find yourself well prepared for later classes, the GRE, the MCAT, etc. Good luck!
Dr. Hansen is a great professor! She has an excellent understanding of anatomy and wants her students to do well. Attending class is extremely helpful and an incentive is that she gives extra credit quizzes. As long as you take the time to study, you will succeed in her class. I wish I could have taken her histology and urban farming classes.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Goes so fast with powerpoints that is is nearly impossible to take notes. Rude and hates answering questions. She always acts like she doesn't want to be there and I felt the same way because of her. She should be fired.
Professor Hansen is a good professor. This class is not easy and it will challenge you, but that should be expected. The tests are difficult, but the assignments are fairly easy and she drops your lowest test score.
I have a 4.0 and know nothing about histology. Her lecture notes are full or errors and she draws examples in microsoft paint...so its confusing! She does not respond to emails but there is a ton of extra credit so its smart to go to class. The tests BLOW!
STAY AWAY. WORST PROFESSOR AT OU, HANDS DOWN. Assignments are nearly impossible. Tests are impossible. Don't bother asking questions, she does not help at all. STAY AWAY!!
The amount of work she just dumps on you can be overwhelming. However, as long as you start the projects early, don't copy anyone, generally make an effort and show up to class you'll get at least a 3.5. The class it self isn't really organized, and she will not really give you a lot of direction but she's easy to talk to and is very understanding.
She puts in the work and expects you to do the same. Understanding of personal issues and flexible to help you complete course material after a crisis. Organizes the class into groups that She thinks will work well together I''m the one usually doing all the work and didn''t have to because my group was all hard workers. Overall WONDERFUL proff
I never write reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Dr. Hansen is extremely passionate about the subject matter. If you need guidance, she's easy to talk to and genuinely takes an interest in her students. The take-home exams were difficult, but she gives you ample time to get them done and you learn A LOT. I highly recommend this class!
This class was inspiring. I changed my major to include many things learned of first in this class. While her teaching style can be frustrating at times it will help you to develop both as a student and a person.
Very boring class but she is an easy grader, exams are take-home and she will give you extra time for assignments. Her assignments aren't that hard but they are EXTREMELY time-consuming, especially exams. You have to work in a group a lot, which is bad because your grade mostly comes from group performance. Would not take again.
Showed up to every class and worked very hard on all assignments and still didn't do well. She doesn't want her students to do well.
Dr. Hansen is a really nice professor & will typically work with students by extending due dates. She is a bit scatter-brained so prepare to make notes of every announcement she makes - she forgets to post a lot of material online, but still expects you to be prepared. Put in the time & be very thorough with the take-homes & you'll get an A.
Poor Instructor, frequently cancels class last minute, always late, assigns more work as the class progresses than on the syllabus. Frustratingly scattered.
Dr. Hansen is one of those professors you have to warm up to. It was hard to enjoy the class in the beginning but she really wants everyone to succeed. Exams can be challenging but she is very easy to talk to
This professor is very knowledgeable in the field of histology. Lectures can be messy but this class just takes time to do notes and learn. Dr. Hansen is a very good professor here at Oakland
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR. Would recommend taking Dr. Hansen if you actually want to LEARN
This was, hands down, one if the best classes I've taken. Dr. Hansen is a very fair grader! She has a lot of experience and as a result a lot of really great information to share. Lectures are very informal so you'll need to always be prepared to take notes! As long as you do that, follow her reading schedule, and show up, you'll do well!
Doctor Hansen is an incredible professor that goes above and beyond to see her students succeed. Group projects give the class a more lively feel. Exams are take home and encourage you to explore a wide array of topics. What you learn in her class goes further than your average textbook material, leaving you more prepared for the real world.
Dr. Hansen cares a lot about her students and knows her topic but not how to teach it well. Plenty of HW and projects to keep your grade up but her lectures don't match her exams well.
Dr. Hansen is amazing! Histology is a tough class, but it's intended for future health care PROFESSIONALS and is designed accordingly. She does not spoon-feed you the material, you need to review and study at home. Exams are straightforward and fair. Take the lab concurrently to reinforce the material. Highly recommend!
She assigns so much homework its ridiculous. We had 4 final projects and at least one homework assignment due and assigned every day of class. She loves to make you do work and then write reflections on literally everything. The class isnt difficult information, just a lot of pointless work
Hansen is probably my least favorite prof I've ever had. She takes herself way too seriously and assigns more work than all other classes combined. If you feel like having papers due every class period and 4 final projects and essays then shes the prof for you. If you'd rather enjoy your life, avoid her class at all costs
Dr. H is a wonderful person, but I would not recommend taking her for this capstone course. Lots of busywork assignments, and lectures that are about her own work instead of learning new material.
Honestly, I don't know how you can complain about a CAPSTONE course lol. She was great! At first, she was tough but eases up eventually. A little disorganized but just communicate with her and you'll be fine. Most people did well in my class. She's honestly the sweetest prof :)
Prof. Hansen is disorganized. Almost all of the work she assigns is busywork, and she assigns a lot. All the information covered in this capstone is about her personal interests like nutrition and agriculture? Often holds class over and posts on days off. Not hard to get a good grade, but not worth the headache.
Material is easy enough but the workload is unreasonable. If you can already read scientific articles, put presentations together & write papers, you won't get much out of this class. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on tedious busy work. To be fair, if you reach out to her she will be flexible with due dates. Still, I wouldn't take again.
Don't buy the textbooks you don't need them. She is highly unorganized and has no idea what she is putting on moodle. She wants you to read her mind, rubrics and instructions are extremely broad yet she wants specific answers. Sad because I was excited about this class but now after finishing, I regret ever taking it.
Its an easy A class, but she's very unorganized and not that helpful. She tries to help but moodle is weird and everything is confusing. I don't really recommend taking, but she is a sweet person.
