She is an excellent professor. Not too much writing. Very easy to follow. Got out of class early all the time.
She's a great teacher, lets you out early, and grades the papers fairly...also is not big on late assignments, can turn it in anytime mostly!
awesome teacher who grades paper very fairly, she will let u know the places where u will need to improve on which is very good..
Awesome
We watched American History X for our core 1 project, AND she brought in candy and snacks for us to eat during the movie. Papers are medium difficulty, but she helps you through every step. trust me TAKE THIS CLASS.
Awsome, got out early almost everyday. The assignments were graded fair and we didn't do too much writing...a lot of class discussions, which was cool. I reccommend taking this class.
Best professor I have had yet. She understands those who have other classes with very heavy workload and that not every student is majoring in English. Will help if you ask. More thinking and discussion than actual writing here. Seemed to care about students and not just show up for salary.
You've just found your new english comp teacher. Fay is a flexible and very caring woman. She has a Ph.D, knows her stuff, and it REALLY nice. She's not a dictator, she's your friend in writing. EASY if you just show up and try...a little..
I loved her so much that i took her twice! She is an awesome teacher that is understanding and caring of her students. The class is relatively easy as long as you do your work and turn it in. Class discussions are fun and easy. I highly recommend.
Dr. Fay was a very compassionate and nice woman, however this does not make her a good professor. The class was ill-organized and I don't think I actually learned anything new about the novels we read except for everyone's opinion on Mr. Darcy. Something more intellectual would have been nice.
Great personality and an easy class. Maybe too easy? Then again it's UCF.
Dr. Fay is very flexible and down to earth. Very relaxed class, as she wants you to enjoy it.
Dr. Hasanat was by far the nicest professor ive met yet. As long as you go to class and turn in your papers, you'll be fine. She's easy going and uncomplicated. You will be fine in her class. Take her.. shes awesome
I love the laid-back learning atmosphere. I wish she taught more classes that I need to take, because I would definintely take her again! She's very understanding. To all those who gave her a bad rating, it's Comp II, non-English majors are taking this course! No one likes mean people. :)
The best class ive had so far... Easy and laid back... shes always helpful and you'll DEF get an A as long as you do her papers and go to class... Fun class and almost always lets you out early... Highly recommended!
Very good teacher who lets the class discuss every reading before she lectures. Not difficult to do well on her papers
awesome professor. she's great
She is a very nice lady, laid back. Unfortunately, she is very unclear. She would tell me how to do one thing, but then tell me how to do it a completely different way. Very confusing.
Dr. Fay is a very easy and laid back teacher. She gives in to almost anything the class asks her (going home early, deadline extensions) and lets you out early almost every class. Papers are graded pretty easy but she is not too organized and doesn't really give good guidelines for the papers. But otherwise a very sweet woman!
Dr. Fay basically moderated our class discussion and did not teach much at all. It is up to the student to really get excited about this class. She's such a sweet woman and if you go to her for help, she's always there. Not clear on expectations at all and the student must set them for themself.
Cool teacher who is very helpful. Class discussions and lectures are interesting. Expect to write a few essays and a 8-10 page essay towards the end.
Really easy class and probably would have been more enjoyable if the class discussions were more moderated and did not turn into personal attacks. Doesn't really teach. She is a very nice woman, but she has low expectations for your performance, so it makes you not care. Also, really boring to sit through.. if you can stand to at all.
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I'VE MET. SHE IS VERY CARING AND TRIES TO HELP HER STUDENTS. SHE TREATED US WITH RESPECT. I ENJOYED THE CLASS.
AWESOME ENGLISH TEACHER!! Dr. Fay's teaching style kept students interested! I can't say enough great things about her class! You must take her for english 2!
This class was alright. She was a very nice person, fun to chat with. The class became a lot about arab civilizations because she is foreign. This made the class very boring since it was ALWAYS about Iraq, war, and Arabs. Lots of essays, but nothing hard outside of that. No tests, had a party instead of a final!
She is very nice. sets all due dates back for every paper. easy class, i would take her again if she taught 1102
Terrible lecturer. She held several "discussion forums" which were nothing more than 5th grade level group projects that most didn't even bother pretending to pay attention to. Most kids got As and Bs on papers, but the average for the midterm were Ds and Cs. On a brighter note, she seemed to learn from this and cancelled the final.
She was such a nice lady and was very helpful in writing papers. Class was short and sweet. I would love to have her as my professor again!
one of the best classes I've ever taken at UCF. Dr. Hasanat is great!
Proff. Hasanat is not a harsh grading professor. Yet this should not detract from the fact that she genuinely knows her romantic and victorian age poetry. She is very respectful to all her students and is actually concerned with you taking something away from the class besides a grade. Take her if you can, for as many classes as she teaches
Dr. Fay is very nice and truly cares about her students. The class is fairly easy but you do have to go- can get boring but overall easy class with nice prof.
Dr. Hasanat is the greatest teacher ever, and so funny! She's always telling jokes and she is so sweet and really cares about her students. She will do anything to make sure her students all get a good grade. Make sure you read the assigned readings, they're not long and will help you a lot. Must take!
She is amazing! She is more like your favorite Aunt than a professor. She is very understanding and willing to work with her students. Show up, act interested and communicate-- easy A if you just show up.
She has a Ph. D. so she is crazy smart, but she treats everyone like an equal. We had a lot of fun and I don't think we ever stayed the entire period. Come to class, enjoy and participate and you should be fine and learn from a really great professor.
She is a great teacher she helps you a lot. She is pretty lenient and very understanding. It's a pretty easy class.
Dr. Hasanat is really nice. She gets sidetracked really easily and forgets what she was talking about, but its fun. You really have to pay attention to due dates once shes told you because it won't come up again until the day the assignment is due, but overall this class is really easy, really laid back, and fun.
She is extremely nice and very understanding. Can be funny too. She will help you with papers if your struggling. Most of the time you wont stay for the entire class time. Overall I highly recommend her!
What an amazing professor! Her class isn't a free A, but she makes the material interesting. She is quite funny and very down-to-earth. I'm definitely taking more of her classes. Thank you, Dr. Hasanat!
The first day of class I was worried. Her syllabus reads "Degree of Difficulty: Extreme." As it turns out, Lit Theory IS a difficult subject, but Dr. H will get you through it. One of the BEST professors at UCF. Her breadth of knowledge is incredible, but she never talks down to you. To her, an answer is never wrong as long as you can back it up!
I love professor H. She is a cool, funny, and laid back lady. She is very helpful, and says that she wont let anyone fail. She wants you to participate, do well in the class, and to have fun! She gives out candy too! Highly recommended. Im taking her for every other english class I can.
GREAT PROFESSOR!! She is soooo uber helpful and nice, she's like a mother to her students. There are about five short papers only two pages long, a few tests and then a final. It is a hard subject but because you have so many grades you can count on at least a B if you try. I am taking her again for English Lit 2. TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
I absolutely loved Dr. Hasanat!! The first day seemed overwhelming with reading and papers, but she's a lenient grader and she always gives her students the benefit of the doubt. Her intellect is very attractive and she's simply a sensitive and excellent professor.
AMAZING!! she was one of the nicest, funniest, helpful professors i've ever had. you have to work and pay attention, but the class is not boring so it's fine. if you can get her i would def recommend it!
Cool woman but as a teacher...bleh. The work/topics were pointless/annoying. Felt like 9th grade all over again. Its a good cruising class i guess.
Great and easy professor! Class was one of the easiest I have ever taken. If you want a class where you don't have much work, highly recommend this class.
If I never have to read romantic poetry again, I'll not shed a tear, but at the same time, Dr. Fay made this subject bearable. This was the second class I've had with her. She's very nice, funny, and helpful. Regardless if literature is your thing, or if you're just taking it because it's a requirement, I strongly recommend Dr. Fay.
This class was one of the more memorable classes at UCF. Dr Fay is one of my favorite UCF professor; she is smart, kind and truly cares about her students. I would highly recommend BritLit2 (esp if you like poetry). I learned a lot from her. Of course the text (Norton Anthology), is classic!
Dr. H. is by far my favorite professor. She makes the subject entertaining, because she is extremely knowledgable, and does not waste time. The assinments and quizzes are not very hard at all. I would recommend her to anyone who needs or wants to take an English literature class. Just make sure you show up to class.
Awful!! I did not learn anything because I was not challenged. Her expectations from us were not clear and she did not respond to my e-mails. The most help I got was from other students. If you want an easy A, take this class. If you want to actually learn something and not be completely bored and confused the whole semester, take someone else.
Amazing professor. Knows her stuff and is so helpful. Very understanding, too. I visited her office with help on a paper and she was so incredibly nice. There's a lot of work in the class, but it's manageable. Made me LOVE Victorian lit, which I was not expecting. I definitely recommend taking Dr. H!!
AWESOME!
Dr. H is great, she is patient and willing to work through any problem you may have in the course. I've learned a lot in her class, more so than a lot of ucf classes. She's terrific.
It's easy for the subject (lit theory) to be boring but she delivers the info nicely. She's also really sweet, will work with you. If you show up to class she'll grade accordingly. Also, she's super nice and friendly!
Dr. H is an incredible woman. She's extremely intelligent, but not intimidating; actually, she's one of the more approachable professors that I've had. Her class could easily be boring given the amount of theory covered, but she's able to keep the interest up. I would definitely recommend her.
This teacher was a pain. She explains nothing and talks in circles. When discussing theories she talks about the history but not how to apply the theory but all the work in on applying the theory. She constantly stresses to read the text book which I found to be almost as useless as many of her lectures. Seems to play favorites sometimes too.
Dr. Hasanat is simply incredible. Her presence commands the attention of a room and her intellect is baffling. She takes a relatively complex field, theories of literature, and works to make it not only accessible to students but as fun and as interesting as possible. She adores what she does and all she wants is to communicate it to her students.
She's obviously intelligent. She'll like anybody who talks extensively in class, even if they continually say nothing, which is kind of a bummer. Judging from my actual numerical score, I should have gotten an A-, but she gave me an A because I got a perfect score on the final paper. She's very reasonable. Really enjoyed her class.
Everyone I know loves Hasanat but I have to say I don't agree. She is a very nice person, but I don't think a great professor. She was very unclear in some of her assignments and disorganized in just about everything. She summarized things in class rather than explaining even the most complicated theories. Also, I have no idea how she grades.
I'm not really sure what I was supposed to learn in this class. I was confused the whole semester, and somehow managed to do OK. Not a particularly hard course, but I can see how it could be for some people. It's an oddly designed course. I have no idea how she'd be in a person-to-person setting.
Dr. H is awesome. She is super helpful and is incredibly intelligent. I was pleasantly surprised with the Post Colonial class that she has taught it in an interesting, approachable way. I really liked that she incorporated humor into what could be really boring material. I recommend her to anyone in the English track.
Took this course online & over a six week period so it was a heavy workload. I liked the way she organized the class & made it flow. Interesting literature choices. However, if you're going to teach an online course you should probably be prompt with email! Also, she tries to trick you on a lot on quizzes and tests which in my opinion, isn't cool.
Extremely helpful, and willing to work with students. The online class is very fast paced, and not all that clear of a syllabus, but she definitely has the patience!!!
This is for the online class Literature and Popular Culture. I was very disappointed. It was not like the catalog described, but instead a Marxist Literary criticism class. After the 3rd week, teacher was MIA. No response to emails. Confusing syllabus often with conflicting instructions. Would not take another online class with this professor.
I took her half online/half in person. She rambled quite a bit and sometimes I felt extremely confused about the theories she was teaching, and she was unclear about some of the assignments. Having tests/quizzes online was nice but she does use trick questions a lot.
This class was enjoyable. The professor is hilarious and down to earth. Her assignments are fair and most of her directions are pretty clear. If you need help, she is easy to talk to. I would get the text because it helps on quizzes but some may find that they don't need it. Also, go to class so you don't miss anything !
I was confused during most of the semester because she does not organize her class. She rambles a lot, isn't clear about due dates (AT ALL) and expectations, and doesn't discuss the theories clearly enough. I genuinely wanted to enjoy this class; she made it unnecessarily difficult. If you are someone who needs structure in a class, don't take her.
I highly recommend taking her in person as she is somewhat scatter-brained. Overall, she is an incredibly intelligent woman. I see a lot of complaining about her clarity, but I found her analogies in theory easy to understand/helpful. Do not take a class with her if you are not a disciplined learner. (What are you doing in college, anyways?)
Very nice, and very intelligent but a little scatterbrained. I had Practical Criticism with her and she was very understanding about our class's attitude toward the subject, and very funny about her own dislike about it. She misspells things sometimes, but don't take that as her being inept.
Easy A. Keep up with the reading, notes, & assignments, it's a breeze. She's really courteous and funny. Very helpful in clarifying theories that are hard to grasp. I actually looked forward to doing the work for this class every week. One of my favorite college courses I've taken because of this professor.
What a disappointment! The teacher's syllabus was a complete mess which is usually a big red flag for me, but I persisted, excited for the coursework. Analysis techniques weren't taught, merely summarized, and the first four major assignments were "analyzing" graphic novels using the techniques that we had "learned". No, no, no.
Took her class online. Class wasn't an easy A, but it wasn't as tedious as others have mentioned. As long as you show her you're making an effort, she helps you in any way she can. One thing I can say for sure is she's a more than fair grader.
Took her class online. Class wasn't an easy A, but it wasn't as tedious as others have mentioned. As long as you show her you're making an effort, she helps you in any way she can. One thing I can say for sure is she's a more than fair grader. Do the work and you'll pass the class.
She is a great professor. Her class wasn't an easy A, but it wasn't as bad as others have mentioned. If you do the work and show her you're trying, she's more than willing to help you. She's also more than fair when it comes to grading.
Nice intro to literary criticism. Short writing assignments keyed to Neil Gaiman's _Sandman_ volume 4 allowed us to use the theories. Term paper on Kenyan author Ngugi's classic _Weep Not, Child. Thorough notes supplementing the text. Helpful. Online, so little interaction but we got to read each other's short papers ("blogs") which I enjoyed.
This class was difficult and I love literature. I really did not understand this class at all. My biggest pet peeve was the formatting of this class. The font was unprofessional and the colors made it really hard to read. Her notes are not helpful so you need to buy the textbook and read it in order to pass.
If you have to take her online for a credit, do it. Directions were extremely confusing at times, told us to use one edition of the textbook, halfway through the semester switches to the latest edition, and when she says an exam is one X and Y, it's really on X, Y, Z, Q and then some. Came into the final without having 12 my assignments graded
She's the best! She gives notes and the exact answers to tests and quizzes are in there and the book. I completely forgot about taking my final exam and I never asked her if I could still take it but she took it upon herself to email me and keep it open for me till grades were due. LOVE HER!
There are 3 modules and in each one there's a ton of reading, blog posts, papers, and testsquizzes. The teacher is really bad about responding to emails. I eventually had to message classmates to get the answers . She's very vague about what is on each test, so you have to be sure to read EVERYTHING. All in all, I didnt like this class.
Immediately felt welcomed into this online course by Prof. Hasanat- very kind) she makes the course fun and interesting! LOADS of reading , start early DO NOT procrastinate!lAlso lots of discussions and essays, if not good writer, utilize the writing center, get help : I am going to in the future
she is the best. her class is tough and her quizzes are tough but she will help you if you really try. she wants to push you and wants to see you succeed.
Papers take over a month to get back. You have no clue what she's looking for. Poorly edited syllabus, due dates change. Graded papers are not red-marked, only a vague rubric. Critical handouts are extremely difficult, with no lecture or help whatsoever to parse them. Called the class "little children" for asking when papers would be graded. Awful
Vague rubrics, vague expectations and would not explain further. Claimed that you didn't have to understand the theories but then handed out low grades and based them on opinion rather than content. Don't take her if you want to know why points were deducted on papers.
Basically all the work is due in intervals, so no weekly assignments, but I hate it. If that's what you would like then all the power to you, but it's awful for me as I have four other classes. The reading is way to much, and I have other lit classes it's not like I haven't had heavy reading before. I will never take her again and wishing I hadn't.
Super vague instructions on the syllabus and on individual assignments . Changes due dates CONSTANTLY sometimes the day before huge assignments were due. Lectures were written in a way that made very little sense. Once she actually asked on a test if a sentence in the novel ended "startled" or "awakened" with no other context given.
ENG 3014 and Gothic Literature; Dr. Hasanat is a wonderful professor. She's especially understanding and lenient, if you reach out. Yes, her methods are sometimes a little unconventional (she's aware), but she knows her material. But her courses are difficult, you need to put in the work and stay on top of it. If she's confusing you, ASK QUESTIONS
Dr. Hasanat is a wonderful professor, hilarious, fair and caring. However, when it comes time to take quizzes/test don't just rely on her notes but study the Literary Criticism: An Introduction to Theory and Practice text as well (the material is taken from both).
Dr. H is one of my favorite professors, despite a large amount of coursework. Every semester I specifically look for classes by her. She's a very generous grader and always happy to clarify something if you reach out. Tests are open note. Extra credit opportunities. Witty. Types *hugs* at the end of announcements. Sympathetic to student life.
Dr. H is an angel. When Irma hit and most of us were out of power, she either extended deadlines until the end of the semester or cancelled assignments altogether. She genuinely cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. This is my third class with her, and if she had another class available I'd take her again next semester.
Dr. Hasanat is one of the best professors I ever had. She is very kind and extended deadlines during hurricane Irma to help her students recover. She gave helpful feedback on assignments and encouraged students to reach for their potential. When discussing Victorian Lit she recommends text to further reading (The Awakening by Chopin).
Took Dr. Fayeza Hasanat's Gothic Literature class. Informative course with hilarious lectures detailing knowledge from the Goth's early history to current gothic novels. Hasanat is an amazing professor who extends deadlines, is willing to work with her students so they suceed and is very knowledgable. Defintely recommend her for any English Major.
Took British Authors: Brontë which covered the novels of Charlotte, Anne and Emily Brontë (excluding the novel Agnes Grey). Dr. Hasanat is one of the best English Literature professor at UCF and is a real treasure. Hilarious, kind and considerate of her students. Be prepared to read and write a lot, from short 300 word blogs to 1,000 essays.
Dr. H is really sweet, approachable, and enthusiastic. However, she is super disorganized and not 100% on her grammar/spelling. I would take another class with her, but I would have a few reservations about it. I also wish her feedback was more pointed and detailed.
It's a lit course so you have to read novels, which is fine so long as you have the time. Hasanat makes the quizzes on these novels intentionally confusing, & even though she gives two chances for each, it's hard to know which ?s were right/wrong. She takes at least 4-5 weeks to grade papers. Don't take if you can avoid. Not worth the stress.
Took Gothic Lit' and loved her course! Sure, her quizzes can be a little tricky and, yes, you have to write a lot of papers (if you're an English Major you shouldn't be surprised with how much writing you have to do) but her lectures were hilarious and informative (yes, there's spelling errors/colored notes) but she's amazing! Would take again!
Hated at first. Quizzes are confusing. Can get stressful waiting for grades/feedback on writing. If you are logic-orientated and need instant feedback, take a different professor. That said, Dr. H gives multiple attempts on quizzes and grades fairly. She is whimsical and creative. If you can relax while you do work/wait for feedback you'll be good.
A really sweet lady. As long as you show up and prove that you're hardworking, she'll go easy on you.
Flaky, hard to reach, and does not respond to emails asking for help or clarification. She will literally copy and paste assignments from previous semesters into new semesters and not change the due dates- then when you reach out to her she will not respond. Not to mention her "notes" are barely intelligible.
Currently taking her For Lit Theory and Black British Lit. Hands down worse professor I've ever had. Most everything you will do in any of her classes is busy work and redundant. Her notes, while rambling and nearly unreadable thanks to bright multi-colored fonts, are all from 2012 or earlier. Rarely responds or grades in a timely manner.
Black British Authors class contained informative lectures on the topics, including academic journals, videos, and notes. Unlike some other comments mentioned, Hasanat replied to my emails in a timely manner and, while her notes are colour-coded, they were nicely detailed and pertained to the topic being discussed. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Hasanat's Black British Authors class was reading intensive but her notes (while colorful) helped in understanding the material. Easy to access outside of class and a very kind lady who cares about her students. Her writing can be a little sporadic, but that's because she writes them as if she were giving a lecture in class. She's awesome!
Horrible online. Replied to emails once per wk and didn't even answer what was asked. Beyond the course info.. she is unwilling to offer clarity and teach you. Leaves little to no feedback on your work. If you want to know and grow; which is what learning is, seek another instructor.
Interesting class. The books were a little difficult to get but Hasanat was lenient by only requiring students to purchase one book. Would take this professor again.
I took this professor for Black British Lit. In the very beginning of the course she said she does NOT proofread her work, yet students are deducted points on work that has typos or errors. Questions on the exams are made intentionally difficult and confusing - or have typos. She offered 10 points extra credit, but I'll never take her again.
Hasanat's lectures were funny and very informative on Postcolonial theory. Would definitely take Dr. Hasanat again.
Worst professor I have ever had. She has no specific criteria. She is all over the place. Her dates are always wrong, she doesn't update anything. She will have a specific date and then change it after you turned in your work. She is unreachable and takes forever to grade your work and then it's generic grading for the class. Her notes are bad.
I had a really rough first half of the semester, and this was the last class I needed to finish my degree!!! I thought I was going to fail. Hasanat was understanding & allowed me a second chance to work for my grade. I wasn't asking for a free pass, and Hasanat allowed me to make up work when I was in a tough place. She was kind and respectful.
I would have like to have more feedback on assignments but this professor. Other than that, the class was straight forward and I enjoyed it. There is a lot of reading but she provided her notes of the texts, which is very helpful.
took online. didn't find the material difficult and I didn't need to E-mail her because it's pretty straightforward. We had discussions (didn't have to respond to other people), music critiques. You do the modules when you like- the dates are weird in a good way. The test are tricky wording. 2 kinda lengthy novels to read. EC. Id take again.
Hard to rate. Offers late submissions, extensions, and grades pretty leniently. The biggest negative is the tests are deliberately confusing. Like, the questions are riddles. She enjoys confusing students, and makes a point to say so often. It will get on your nerves - you could read everything she assigns and still get a D or F on a test.
Essays had strict, inconsistent word count requirements. Required to quote multiple sources but direct quotes don't count towards total word count. Quizzes include too many questions based on the prof's opinion, worded in deliberately convoluted manner. This prof DID go above & beyond making concessions to help students navigate the COVID-19 crisis
Great classes, but her tests are though. Her wording for questions tends to be convoluted and unclear in relation to learned material. Papers also tend to require way too many references, in my opinion. The amount of quotes needed makes it difficult to convey your own words and thoughts on the novels. Overall fun class, but beware the tests.
While she may be an intriguing professor, she is a bit neurotic. Her course page reminds me of someone using an AIM account, her module openings and deadlines have no routine, and she brags that her exam questions are meant to "tease" students. Passing is attainable, but she will give you a headache to get there.
Prof. Hasanat is an extremely intelligent lady, and so sweet and fun to talk to. Her lectures are a lot, so pay close attention, and it can be a little difficult to get your mind around the concepts sometimes. But if you're willing to work for it, and ASK QUESTIONS, it's totally worth it. I had fun!
Course material is a mess. There is absolutely no proofreading on any course material. Assignments, rubrics, the syllabus, course material, and even quizzes have frequent misspellings that require deciphering in order to understand. Quizzes consist of cheap trick questions that value "gotcha" moments over any actual critical learning.
As a neurodivergent student, her class was a nightmare for me. The formatting on course materials was loaded with spelling and grammar mistakes, many quiz questions were worded in a confusing manner that made reading and answering them difficult, and assignment scheduling was inconsistent. If you struggle with reading comprehension, skip this class
Ambiguous quiz questions. Dr H comments "Aha, I tricked you." Only 1 question visible - can't go back to change answers. Citation obsessed (incl discussions). Read 2 novels plus textbook. Final exam format: 1100-1250 words exactly, with endless citations: 4 critical reading, 4 literary, 4 external, 8 novel, etc. Strict MLA format. Took me 20 hrs.
Schedules her classwork randomly, one week there'll be four quizzes, a paper, and a theory blog, the next two will have nothing. Her lectures are riddled with typos, her quizzes and rubrics too. The errors make it impossible to know what the question is asking. Do not take her. If the class is only offered by her, choose another class.
Her quizzes are 100% based on her extremely convoluted opinions. She will go out of her way to trick you by wording her questions horribly, and then mocks you for getting them wrong instead of explaining her reasoning. She outright says that you will never get a high grade on any paper, because "perfection isn't possible." Incredible self-obsessed
This class really opened my mind to a lot of different things. You must be open to reading though because we read pretty difficult theories and then wrote papers/discussions and took exams. My writing skills have definitely improved because we review other students as well. Loved this class.
Interesting class BUT: final exam took 19 hours to score only 90%. Requisites: strict MLA, precision word count, 16 different citations. Equivocal quiz questions with feedback like "Aha, I tricked you." One question at a time. Can't revisit to change answer. Massive reading - 2 novels plus textbook. Random assignments. This class ruined my 4.0 gpa
Professor Hasanat is an excellent teacher! I've taken her twice. This time I took her class Gothic Lit. There's a lot of reading, but she gives you enough time to do it. She gives multiple attempts on quizzes. And she gives great feedback and interacts with the class. She was a pleasure to have as a professor!
Dr. Hasanat was great! The course is very text heavy, however in my many classes with her she has provided the textbooks. There are a few writing assignments based off lectures and 600 words, and "Short Essays" that are 1200 words, excluding quotations. You have to put in the work for this class but I found audiobooks on Youtube to be a big help!
Professor Hasanat's course isn't the best. There's a lot of reading and plenty of papers. She tries to be funny and lighthearted- which may comes across as charming in her lectures, but often will nastily mock students when they get answers wrong on her numerous convoluted test questions. If you have to get the credit, she's not that bad.
Truly an awful experience. She doesnt give personalized feedback, her grading is arbitrary and unexplained. Her quizzes are designed to make you fail with her trick questions that dont have a basis in text. Her assignments are all over the place. Avoid her at all costs, I would never take a class with her.
Expects perfection in your writing but her materials are error ridden. Creates convoluted quiz questions then laughs when she tricks you. After 11 classes, my first B. Killed my 4.0 for no other reason than a power trip. Would NEVER take a class of hers again.
Dr. Hasant seems like a very nice person, but I did NOT enjoy her class. The quizzes and tests are terrible and full of confusingly worded and trick questions. It's like she gets a kick out of people doing poorly in her classes. In this class, it was actually on the rubric that you could not get higher than 98% on writing assignments.
Ehhhh, really not a fun class. I dont even feel like Im learning. Trying to figure out how to study for her test is nearly impossible. I get its open textbook, but she intentionally creates questions to trick you. Not a great class.
Avoid at all costs! Does not have any lectures or notes, OR textbooks. You basically teach yourself. Disorganized, awful communication, and handles the class so absently. Her assignments are not clear, and she is not easy to contact for further explanation. Says that perfection is impossible, so you will NOT be able to get an A in her class. Awful.
There is a lot of reading. Sometimes it can be confusing but Dr. Hasant gives you enough time between assignments and modules to read required books and fully grasp the subject. The quizzes and final are open-book. This course is very reading heavy and if you aren't ready for that don't take the course. But if you work hard you can learn a lot!
The books can be found online for free or are provided. The topics covered in class are interesting (terror, beauty, the sublime, feminism, gender roles, sexuality- a lot of cool stuff). But it's also important to note that Dr. Hasanat NEVER gives 100%s on papers and the quiz questions are based upon personal opinion, not just facts.
Dr. Hasanat is clearly very knowledgeable. Her lecture notes are helpful and the content itself is interesting. Her grading system is outdated claiming perfection is "impossible." No full credit on any assignments. The quizzes and tests are full of trick questions. No feedback given on written assignments. It is an unnecessarily stressful class.
Her rubrics say you cant receive a 100 because there is no such thing as a perfect analysis; outdated esp. since it's only a 3000-level course. Grades harshly based on grammar and MLA but her "lectures" (really just glorified notes), and rubrics, have many spelling errors that make them difficult to understand. She will help, but only on her terms.
I'm giving this professor a low rating because she was a very hard grader and used a rubric that would not really go over on how to make it better. Also, quizzes were worded to intentionally be difficult but she did allow you to take a few of those quizzes twice as well as gives extra credit. Overall, class was intriguing but grading was harsh.
Refreshing, upbeat attitude in lessons and quizzes Lectures can be read and reread as needed Explains complicated ideas in simple language Emphasizes the fact that perfection is impossible, shows in grading DO THE READING. I failed when behind on reading, this time got an A All assignments due one day per week, great to go at your own pace
The course was very disorganized and hard to follow. There were several pages in modules online to read with fonts and colors varying. It is like Dr. Hasanat poured her thoughts out onto a paper without any organization. That's basically all the course it, LOTS AND LOTS of reading and writing. No videos or visuals to help you.
The professor is very kind and helpful if you email her, but ultimately I struggled a lot with the course subjects. Tests were insane and I honestly didn't ever understand any of the theories used. The course is organized but similarly I relied on outside resources when trying to understand all of the theories.
Worst professor I've had at UCF. Her lecture notes are written poorly (although the textbook does cover same concepts). A "tough" grader, but not the kind of tough I respect - never gives feedback and often the grade feels arbitrary and/or as if she's grading on a level that is higher than an intro course, esp. one where you are 100% on your own.
She's incredibly sweet and helpful. My only criticism is that I wish we received some more feedback on our papers, as the rubrics often weren't enough to tell me what I could do better.
I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Hasanat! I do wish she gave more feedback, but she seemed really genuine and caring (even online). Quizzes were open book and allowed 2 attempts. There were ~6 papers + a research paper. We read 6 novels + a textbook, so if loads of reading isn't your jam, pick another class. Overall, easy A if you try.
Dr. Hasanat is very passionate and her lectures reflect that, they're interesting but hard to follow. All-in-all she did a poor job of covering material that was actually required for quizzes--you'll have to read the book to pass those. The assignment due dates are scattered and inconsistent as well. If she were more consistent, I'd take her again.
I love Dr. Hasanat. I took her for the British Authors course, focusing on the Bronte sisters. There are a fair amount of novels to read (and yes you have to buy/find them on your own), and there is a lot of writing, but as long as you actually read the novels you should be able to write about them no problem. Definitely would take her again.
Dr. Hasanat is one of the best professors at UCF. She cares about her students and goes the extra mile for them. Do the reading and be ready to participate in class. Make sure to be ready for the quizzes
Her lectures can be messy but she usually posted clearer notes after class. Tough grader but it helped me improve my writing a lot. Very passionate about literature and cares for her students. Just take notes during class & read the book and you'll be fine. About 6 papers total and a few quizzes. I adore her but she's def not for everyone.
Dr. Hasanat is one of the most caring and understanding professors I have ever had. I took this course during summer, so the class was condensed. When she saw that we were having a packed week, but the next week looked clearer, she would extend deadlines to make sure that we could be set up to succeed and have enough time. Loved her class.
Lectures are engaging but often hard to follow. The grading is tough, with tricky quizzes and lack of feedback. Textbook is essential for passing. Unstuck ai was helpful for studying.
She is a wonderful professor! Very understanding and lenient (within reason!) and really just wants you to take in the material. Her assignments are challenging, yet not excessive. It's college... you can expect to write and read a ton! Overall, her course was very easy to follow and I would 100% take her again :)
Dr. Hasanat is a beyond-caring teacher who truly cares about her students. She tries to keep workloads low and is easily accessible and understanding, just in case something comes up. She offered an extra credit opportunity and rounded up grades for anyone within 5 points of the next grade. Heavy on textbook assignments, so they're very necessary.
I loved Professor Hasanats teaching style and class preferences for this required class. She truly reads assignments and cares about all her students progress and use of the class for future requirements like grad school. Attendance was mandatory but classes were laid back and mostly peer oriented. Overall she was an amazing experience as a teacher
