A new teacher at LSU. She is Argentinean and speaks with a relatively thick accent. It's very obvious she does not care about students on an individual level. You come in, sit down, and listen to her read her powerpoint's - which are filled with errors- for 50 minutes. No point in going to class, MasteringChemistry teaches the material much better.
She is Argentinian & moves quickly. SI Session is offered and helps a lot! It's pointless to go to class other than the occasional "bonus pop quiz" she gives about once every three weeks at the end of a lecture.
She definitely cares about your grade offers office hours pretty much 24/7 to help you out but you literally learn nothing in class it consists of her going through a PowerPoint at light speed to which you have no hope of learning anything, the tests are also very difficult and confusing
Regret taking her. Absolutely pointless to go to class as she reads word for word though her erroneous powerpoint incredibly quickly. She never early for class, even on test days. On test days, you get around 45 minutes to take a 16 question test, 150 point test, where the questions are almost 10 points a piece. Keeps you late over class time.
She is not the best but not the worst. Her tests are very similar to Kolniaks. She goes very fast in during her lectures. The class is not that hard if you read the book and go to all of the SI sessions. Her accent is noticeable but completely understandable and she is totally willing to help if you go to her office hours
I don't even know where to start. FIRST OF ALL, she spells "nickel" with a "q." I visited Leonik after a test that the majority of the class failed and she said "Its not me i don't know what to tell you" and "if i gave you a test now, you would fail" not only is she discouraging but she's rude and doesn't care about the students grades.
DO NOT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING IN CHEMISTRY. I knew my chemistry already so this class was a breeze (I have an A). I agree with all of the previous comments. If you happen to take her & you're not a chem person FIND A TUTOR ASAP wayyy before you fail the class (SI sessions do help but sometimes not enough for some ppl)
I struggled a lot with this class, currently have a B. The only reason I attend class is because of random bonus quizzes. Kolniak's old exams helped a lot when preparing for her exams. Her posted powerpoints are a little helpful. Masteringchemistry sucks just as much. Wouldn't recommend taking her.
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She has no idea what she is doing... the tests are nothing like what she teaches. If you have no chemistry background, this class will be extremely difficult simply because she does not know how to teach.
She is by far the worst professor at LSU. DO NOT TAKE HER! YouTube is the only thing that will help you. I regret going to class because just listening to her fumble around her worthless powerpoints in her Argentinian accent drove me crazy. She can't stay on one topic and goes off on a whole other tangent, especially when answering questions.
She is not the best Chem teacher but she does give a lot of extra credit points that can help you bring up your grade. If you do the homework and study Kolniak's old tests, you would be fine.
Accent was strong. All she does is read off of the powerpoint which you can find in the etext.
DO NOT TAKE! She was new this semester & was awful. All she did was read straight from the slide & give a few examples. If you don't have a strong chem background going in, I highly recommending not taking her. Gives random extra credit quizzes. Also, go to SI sessions AND do your homework! Most importantly just stay away from her!!
Really. Terrible. Just super terrible.
Ms Leonik does not teach super well, she just reads off her powerpoints which are posted online and because of that many did not show up to class. But her tests were very easy because she puts up practice tests online which are very similar to hers. If you just study the practice tests you should have no problem getting a solid grade in the class.
Does not explain anything at all. Reads straight off of the slides, and does not explain anything on the slide or how it got to that point at all. If you get this teacher drop it asap and take chemistry the next semester.
She has assumes that her students already know everything she is teaching. She does not explain anything and can barely say anything on the slides. She is no helpful at all and will blame you for the bad grade on the test. DO NOT TAKE HER. save yourself
Organic Chem lab is a new class Dr. Leonik has started teaching. This class is one of the hardest classes, esp. taken with the organic class. She didn't teach much, it's about 95% TA's who are very foreign. Make sure you stay on top of everything with this class. I talked to her a few times and she was helpful, so use her as a resource to help.
She reads off the powerpoints as stated and her accent is just another reason of why not to go to class. She had so many bonus's, there was no reason to fail (well, I took AP Chem in HS). The practice exams are about the same with the real exams. Get down the concepts and don't worry too much on the math and you'll be fine. <<<< J Hopkins

If you like to teach yourself or attend SI sessions then this is the class for you
TERRIBLE TEACHER. Took her my first semester at LSU and by far teh hardest teacher I had. Dropped out and thanking God everyday that I did. Terrible teaching skills and even when I went to her office for help she acted like she and everything figured out and treated my like an idiot. Worst teacher ever. Cool woman but terrible teacher.
Average Teacher. Just follow the lecture notes and do the homework. For the test just do the practice tests on moodle and all she does is switch some numbers and chemicals. Really easy, just show up!
Tests are not hard if you study the practice tests she posts online. I rarely went to class and when I did, she read straight from the powerpoint and didn't explain much of anything. She replaces your lowest test grade with what you get on the final. Has a TON of bonus points added to your average which brought me up a letter grade.
Overall I really liked Dr. Leonik. So many people have said she is hard, but honestly if you read the book and do problems from the book you will be fine. Her tests are very similar to Kolniak so doing some of those was really helpful for me. It's like any class you must be willing to put effort into it.
Cannot stand her. Reads straight from the powerpoint and does not explain things well.
Took Leonik for 1201, gave her a big thumbs down. For 2060, she is probably the best orgo prof. you can get. I know because by the time took her, I had tried orgo twice already with 2 different prof's. Her test are very similar to her practice exams. Her final is mult. choice but NOT a cake walk. HW is the hardest part. Bonus is NOT freebies.
Dr. Leonik is very good, but painful. Be prepare to work hard! Easy B if you do what she says!
One, I had it at 7:30 in the morning. That's not too bad. Two, when I did go to class, I had no idea what she was saying. It's her accent coupled with the fact that she reads straight off the PowerPoint. I would be prepared to do a lot of self-studying from the textbook. Lots of homework that she makes due at 8:00pm.
accent makes it hard to understand material, I had her T TH @730 so i was pretty unmotivated and bored during lecture. Usually skipped and taught myself and went to tutoring. if you plan skip, make a friend as she gives e.c. quizzes randomly. A lot of hw due inconveniently @8pm. Tests not that hard as are about 25 questions. helpful @ office hrs.
The first couple of weeks of class was a review and she still seemed to confuse me. She reads straight from the power points. Has a great personality and is really nice, but her teaching just wasn't for me. She gives plenty of bonus opportunities through "surprise quizzes" at the end of class. Go to class and do the homework. SI sessions help.
Not the best teacher (prob best chem prof.) but she cares if her students do well and tries to help as much as she can. I skipped mostly & self taught & went to tutoring to do well in this class. If you suck at chemistry or science in general Tyler Dewitt on youtube will be your bestfriend I promise!!! Random extra credit quizzes at end of class.
I've always had trouble with Chemistry. I did okay on all of the online homework, but when it came to the tests, let's just say I did more than just fail. (I'm talking 36%, people.) I am NOT a Chemistry person, but this class was very, very difficult for me. I'm sure it would be okay if you are good at chemistry and are passionate about it.
Although Dr. Leonik is passionate about Chemistry, she is very hard to understand and doesn't explain much in class. Her lectures are boring, long & miserable, especially if you take her 7:30 am class. She reads straight from the powerpoint so the only reason to go to class is to get extra credit from the pop quizzes. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Horrible, horrible teacher. Give you a ton of homework and even study guides. You would think that would help you with the tests, but no. In her own words "Why would I make the tests the similar?" Completely different tests. Very reaction heavy class. This was Survey of Chemistry, No one needs to be doing so much reactions.
This lab was a ridiculous amount of work. I suggest taking the lab on it's own during the summer. I took it during the summer along with the lecture and it's a LOT of work to keep up with. There's a lab report and quiz every day. Midterm was TOUGH and I expect the same of the final. I highly suggest finding someone's old class material.
She has a thick accent, so it is hard to understand what she is trying to say sometimes. Get ready to teach yourself! I googled a lot of things to figure out how to work out the problems on the homework. Tests are not very difficult, but usually only have 1 or 2 problems on things she emphasizes in class. Utilize the SI sessions; they help a ton!
Dr. Leonik's class isn't very hard. You do need to spend some time for it still. The SI sessions are great if you're struggling at chemistry
Professor Leonik was the worst professor I've taken to date. She has a strong Argentinian accent and is hard to understand at times. She doesn't answer questions in class. Reads straight from the powerpoint and doesn't explain concepts, so be prepared to learn on your own. Only plus was plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Leonik is a very good teacher, I don't understand where all this fuss is coming from. Will she give a free pass? No. Will she give the material? Yes.
Organic is hard, bottom line. I ended up getting a tutor but should finish with an A. You have to work for it, but with the extra credit an A is achievable. Even for someone like me who failed general chemistry twice.
Dr. Leonik class is hard, but she is available if you need her.
I've had her for two classes. This particular class I had her at 7:30. When I went, I had no idea what was going on, maybe because the grogginess. She's hard to understand. When I had her for another class, I learned it wasn't just me.
Dr. Leonik is the most annoying teacher I've had at LSU. She unsure of what she's saying most of the time, and her accent makes it no better. She constantly comes into class WANTS to find something to get you in trouble. Her quizzes are hard and sometimes they're not even what you learned in class. DON'T TAKE HER.
Chem lab that is way, WAY too much work for the measly 2 hour credit you receive. Near impossible online quizzes before each lab then have two exams worth a total 60% of your grade
Really nice and smart lady, not such a great professor. Lecture notes make almost no sense and include a lot of fluff info. She says you need the book, but I've never opened it. ATTEND SI TO BE SUCCESSFUL. This is the only way you will do okay on the exams. There is an opportunity for 50 bonus points throughout the semester.
In my opinion, terrible teacher. She knows her stuff but if youre taking 2060, beware. She seems nice and she probably is, but shes... strict. Its obvious shes used to teaching heavier material by her nature. Better be on top of your game if you want to pass. Homework is 30% of the grade, no drops, no excuses. Yet she wont check her own emails
This class is inherently hard, however, this professor made it harder. She is extremely rude to questions asked ANYTIME. She was un-accommodating to my needs and even got mad in class when a student asked a question about old homework. Some extra credit. This was my last class for college and the hardest class I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE HER.
For this being Survey organic, she is ridiculous. The homework is insanely hard and she uses obscure hard questions instead of actually testing your understanding of the concepts. If you think it's easier than 2061 you're wrong. Don't waste your time paying for tutors to actually learn as I did just cheat with Chegg - those students did better.
Dr. Fedra is scary. Seems like the kind of person who would kill you in your sleep and not feel bad about it. However, most people in the Chem department seem that way. The only reason I liked my lab was because my TA was amazing. She barges in yelling at him and at us often. Tries to catch you messing up. Won't give points back on midterm/final
Chem 2364 doesn't depend on your Professor. I barely had interactions with Leonik. It mostly depends on your TA. I was lucky to have a good TA because you are graded on few things. There's only 2 exams (midterm &final), Lab reports, and online quizzes That is what your grade is comprised of,So do well on the lab reports and especially the exams!
Her class was the first chemistry course I had taken since high school 10 yrs prior. She was fantastic and I developed a love for chemistry when previously I had despised the subject matter. You have to work hard for this course. Her ratings are skewed because she teaches the freshman level courses that give reality checks to students.
I will never take Dr. Leonik ever again. She is incredibly rude to students in class, in office hours, and over email. She will surely make you feel stupid after asking any question. The level of detail taught in SURVEY is unacceptable, I would have signed up for regular O chem. Overall I would never recommend her, poor professor.
Shes not scary yall shes just a loud talker. I think she did everything she could to make organic easier, but its still hard. A lot of bonus, 1 test grade dropped and replaced by final, curves, actually happy to answer questions in class. The end of the class is way harder than the beginning because it goes so fast.
not even exaggerating when I say I never understood a word that came out of her mouth. she's awful at explaining things and is way too hard for a survey of O chem.
Organic is a hard class and I knew that going in. That said, Dr. Leonik gives you every opportunity to do well in her class. Plenty of bonus, and she provides lots of practice worksheets and even practice tests that will clue you in on what will be on the actual exams. Prepare to study A LOT, but Dr. Leonik is a solid choice if you put the work in!
Leonik is nice. if youre expecting to replace your lowest exam with the final, shes no longer doing that
Took last year, forgot to rate. No. Just no. My TA was Suliat and she was SO MEAN FOR NO REASON. Would tell me wrong answers when I asked questions and then I wrote that info on lab reports > points off. This class is hard to keep up with workwise it's just a lot. My saving grace was I studied my butt off and got a 100 on the final/midterm.
So although Im getting tutored this class isnt too bad. The only attendance is on days when homeworks are due. Shes super nice, and always willing to help her students. Her practice exams are almost exactly her test. Homeworks are okay some can be tricky but she gives you alittle over a week to complete them and turn them in.
It is a very hard class, but she curves every exam 10-14 points. Do well on the homeworks! They are worth more of your grade than the exams. Also exams are really tough. This is my second time taking this class.
She is extremely rude and does not care if you are sick or have family that died. she will not help you and will not curve. If you ask for help she will ignore you. Do yourself a favor and don't take this professor. This class is already hard and Proffessor Leonik makes it so much harder.
Do not use solutions to homework you find online. She will purposefully upload fake solution documents to catch cheaters. Save yourself.
Dr. Leonik is my favorite professor at LSU. She made everything so clear and easy to understand. If you go to office hours she is SO willing to help any student. Show up to class, go to office hours with questions, and you will make a good grade. I was never good at chemistry but I made an A in her class. I would 100% take her again.
I liked how se taught her class, she would explain everything in a clear way. She brought props and figurines to show molecules. The key is to go to her office hours and do a lot of the book's exercises
A terrible human. Rude and unthoughtful. The amount of disrespect she have toward students are crazy. Luckily, I got a really nice TA, but sometimes, she just stormed into our class and yelled at us. A student in my class literally had a mental breakdown because of her. Avoid her at all cost for other classes.
Honestly not sure why Dr. Leonik's rating is low. The class is difficult, but she knows the subject well and is likeable. Her notes/lectures aren't amazing, so I recommend reading from the textbook to supplement. Reading (or at least skimming) before class so you aren't lost + asking good questions + good memorization skills and you'll be okay.
This class depends on your on your TA. Quizzes were not that bad if you reviewed the material before taking it. Labs were fun. Midterm and final are exactly like the quizzes.
TA heavy class, I had Julie as my TA and she was great!! Once you get the hang of Data Analysis and Data Pages you'll be set in the class. USE THE ONLINE TEXTBOOK, it is almost impossible to fail if you use it, it tells you how to do everything. I had a B- was because I did not study enough for the final/midterm, which are just like the quizzes.
Prof. Leonik is willingly to help any student that consistently comes to class and visiting her offices hours is the best thing you can do for your grade. During offices hours her goal is to make sure you understand before you leave. No question is a stupid question to her. Between her supportive teaching style and office hours you should do well
Ochem isn't an easy course but she explains everything down to the base. she gives out a lot of extra credit and gives out a lot of extra problem practice to do while at home, her practice tests are just like her exam and her exam is all multiple choice with 1 or 2 questions of drawing structures. if you go to class you will pass. 3 exams and final
Chem 2261 is difficult as it is. She gives a ton of bonus/extra credit and curves at least 5 points on each exam. Her exams are clearly similar to the notes and textbook. Her lectures are easy to follow, and she cares about her students. If you make the effort to go to office hours she will help.
Class depends on your TA, I had a very good one which made the grading much easier. Experiments are enjoyable, just make sure not to underestimate the pre and post lab quizzes. Midterm and Final are both worth 20% of the semester grade, so study the quizzes and go to SI sessions to help with those and it is not too bad.
It's Ochem so it's not easy, but she gives a lot of E.C. and gives a good grade cushion for tests w/ easy HW and no quizzes. Again though it's Ochem so you're gonna have to work hard regardless.
Class is TA led, with no interaction with Fedra. Graded on unproctored quizzes (you have to actually know how to do the math), data pages (from in class experiments), data analysis. and midterm/final. Doesn't matter which prof you have for the lab, they're all the same. Exams in himes. Experiments are fun, just a lot of work with quick turnaround.
Honestly I was really nervous for OChem but she made it such a manageable class. Sooooo much extra credit and her exams are very similar to the notes! The lectures were easy to follow and not overwhelming. The content was hard, of course, but overall I would recommend her out of everyone.
The class was great, and I had a great TA. The way that this class is weighted is insane. I had a high A in every other category except the midterm, which I got a C+ on. With the amount of work you have to do in this class, it should be weighed way differently. 3 hours a week minimum on data analysis just for it to be worth 6% of the grade is crazy
This class is taught by a TA, and not Fedra Leonik herself! My TA for this class was very good, so it was not particularly difficult. Whenever I had seen Fedra Leonik, she rushed us to finish, which caused us to make mistakes. A piece of advice is to read the experiment a few times so you can be more efficient with more time consuming experiments.
most bad reviews are from the lab that is really the TA's fault if taking ochem she isn't bad but the class is hard which is expected
Not willing to answer questions in class. Lots of work required outside of class. Very specific grading. Acts like she's superior to her students and doesn't understand why she has to go over something more than once.
Looking at older views honestly makes me fell like she just git worse overtime . She is a great person but not a great professor. The homework's are graded for accuracy and are worth most of your grade. The class is hard but I went to most of her office hours, SI sessions, and even online tutoring and still ended up dropping the class. Good luck.
class depends on your TA but dr. leonik is fine. sometimes bipolar and would be rude af but other times very sweet.
I will say that if you get lucky with your TA you'll bee fine. But the midterm was God awful and the final was extremely easy. If you do not do well on the midterm it will bring your grade average down by a lot. And make sure you don't miss a class because the makeup process was just annoying.
This class is totally TA based. I had no contact with Dr. Leonik whatsoever. My TA, Ryan Morehouse, was absolutely amazing. Chill, easy grader, that really cared for the students. This class isn't bad, the labs are pretty fun, but there is a lot of work outside of class due. Show up to class, do the work, and you'll do well.
Never really had any contact with Dr. Leonik, except for when she would come by the lab sometimes to catch students who were getting close to the end of lab time or not wearing proper lab attire. Class is very TA based, and my TA was super chill. Study for the midterm and final, and show up to lab and you will be fine!
