He does not explain the material very well, He expect you to know it already. I think if I knew the subject I would not be taking it again. He gets upset when you asked questions so I will not suggest anyone to take him.

This guy needs to take english classes before teaching. He expects everybody to know everything. If I knew everything I would not be in the class. Teaches to fast. You better know your algebra very well before selecting this professor. I don't suggest to take his classes at all. Everyone failed.
Not a very helpful professor. Has the knowlegde of the subject but lacks the teaching skills. Lab aids were even confused by test problems which we were able to review after the test. If they couldn't figure them out how are the students suppose to? Definitely do not take this professor.
Very unclear, and teaches on a very high level
this professor does expect you to know a lot (a lot from your previous math classes of course!!!) which is understandable. so if you like challenge rather than easy good grades, you should definetely take him!
He is a very bad professor. He does not know how to teach. He always try to say the same thing as in the book and you ask about a dubt he always confuse you more than what you already are. The main problem with him is his test. He alway put hard exams and in top of all that the exercise in the exam does not come from the book he put his own
I learned a lot from his class, it made me realize there is nothing easy in life. People say he is a bad professor because he is difficult, but the fact is the bad professors are those who are easy because they are afraid of the student's opinion.
Dis dude has a bad bad spanish accent...he is hard for me to understand...dis class is like a refresher to me so i can do da work wit or wit out his help..but still...he needs to learn to talk better english...and he does have jus a lil problem respecting people sometimes...other den dat he is str8.
Very Fun class and it is not because I like Math
I had a bad vibe about this prof's teaching style, but I needed this class in the summer term :/ - Apparently he knows his stuff, but he does not know how to get it out there for all those students seeing Calculus for the first time. It seems it is common to get from 20's - 60's in his tests. He does not go over HW in class. Don't recommend.
the worst teacher ever
Not the best math teacher. If you can find another Calc teacher, I suggest you do. There were only SIX students in my Calc II class and only like two students deserved to truly pass and I wasn't one of them. I failed all of him exams so I'm guessing he had to pass me because he would look bad.
He has a really hard to understand spanish accant and he uses big words that because of his thick spanish accent are very hard to follow. He does know his math but he has no idea how to teach it, he skips steps in the problems because he assumes we should know those steps, even in a remedial math class. does not go over homework at all. Stay away!
Every time that you make him a question, he will refer you to the math lab. If you need to get an A, dont take this class with him.
He knows a lot, but it's hard to understand him. Half of the class had to drop it, and from the other half many were failing... :(
was hard to understand. confused me more than ever.made me jsut stop going
This is the worst math professor of the campus. He doesn't explain the steps to resolve problems, and he assumes that you know all the content of the book. Also, every time that somebody has a question during the class, he refers the person to the tutors of the math department. Try to AVOID his class if you want to keep your GPA.
This professor is just not a good professor. I'm currently taken MAC1147 which is a combined class of Algebra and Trigo and he is not helping us at all. We are all failing the course so far, and he doesn't show any care about our grades. DO NOT TAKE this professor unless you're a genius in Math.
I did not think this class was going to be so bad b/c I got an A in precal. but with this teacher it seems impossible to get a passing grade. he confuses you more than the book, and he teaches as if you know the material already. you will only get a good grade if you have tooken calculus before this class. if you need a high grade DO NOT take him.
Don't take this class with him or your GPA will suffer the consequences. The best option for this class is prof. Ricardo Sanchez at Hialeah Campus.
The professor is not the easiest; however, you will learn a lot with him. He's a great teacher.
Avoid taking his class at all cost!!!
I am not good in math.. and this teacher didnt help me at all... when you want to ask questions she confuses you and keep going with his class he doesnt check the HW. Hes a good guy but hes not a good teacher for beginer levels
He is a very good teacher, motivated me to study hard and go to math lab. Before his class i had forgotten alot of formulas and concepts in math and he helped remember by practicing and studying. Very good teacher and very hard too but if your up for the challenge you will enjoy his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!! BAD TEACHING!!
Bad teaching, makes any student to hate math instead of making it likeable.
this prof knows his math! he is sometimes unclear, which makes the class even harder. so you have to know your background math and be good at it before taking him. if not you' dead in the water. if you take him ... GOOD LUCK!!
His class is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. He's not very clear explaining and does expect you to know more than you probably do.I got an A in Calc 2 and failed most of his tests and half of the class dropped out. He is VERY UNDERSTANDING though and he knows that his class is hard. so chances are if you make it to the end you'll pass
Difficult teacher. If you think you're good in math think again. He is a great person to chat w/ but not to have as your prof. My class started w/ 30 and ended w/ 3 w/ no one getting close to an A.
Professor Garcia is a very nice professor, but he pretty much just tells you what's in the book. The examples he uses in class are deceptively easy, the questions on the test are much harder. He makes his own tests, and has a pretty strong accent. You get used to it eventually. OK professor overall, I have a B right now.
He moves real fasttt, and his tests are really hard however, the exit exam is way easier than what his tests are so if you are failing the tests just try extra hard on the exam and you are guaranteed a pass..Also he doesnt speak clear if he sees that you are making an effort to do well in class he will help..He's aight just gotta work hard
do not take this class!!! im only rating to save you before you get yourself stuck in the class. if youre in the class and not sure about it, switch classes!! im really good at math and this teacher makes me feel really stupid. he does not know how to teach and you will suffer from it
I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS THOUGHT THAT I WOULD BE WRITING A REVIEW FOR A TEACHER BUT TAKE MY ADVICE STAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY AWAY. DO NOT LET YOUR GPA SUFFER EVEN IF IT IS THE ONLY CLASS AVAILABLE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Really bad teacher with a bad heavy accent he goes really fast and doesn't take the time to explain things. I understood the books examples better then him. I failed the class took it over with Jean Pierre and passed it!! Don't take this man for MATH!
Look for another professor. Prof. Garcia knows his material, but he isn't very good at teaching, is shocked when we don't know the answer to a question he might have and isn't even very helpful in the office hours. Overall, a very bad teacher. Avoid if you can. I really like math, but he puts you down like if you sucked at math.
STUDY STUDY STUDY thats the only advice i can give you. has a very strong accent if he talks to fast sounds lik he's speaking spanish. nice guy but gets mad if you dont get the question correct. he teachs the lesson the hard way instead of showing us the easy quick way. test are extremely hard but studying is the key.
Prof. Garcia is good in Math but as a teacher, I wouldn't recommend it. He explains in a way that all you can do is write it down and wait to get home and study from them book examples. I even had to buy the Students' Solutions to learn how to solve the problems. Truly I would be surprise if I pass this class.
The key to passing his class, is studying hard. I failed Trig before but with this Professor, I got an "A" with him. If you treat the math book as a bible, and practice everything he assigns you to do at home, then you will have a good chance at making a pretty decent grade. Beware to lazy students, you will not have a good chance at passing.
HE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVERY. I TOOK HIM WITH OUT LOOKING AT RATE YOUR PROFESSOR.COM. AND NOW I KNOW THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS LIKE HE IS THE WORST TEACHER.... RUN FAR WAY IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR GPA
He is a good professor and knows his Calculus. I failed and will have to retake it. Most failed the first test. The test are really hard. He tells you what to study but some of the stuff isnt on the test. Nice professor and funny. Pauls online math notes helps. I dont expect it to be easy but this class is hard. Doesnt give alot of hw.
I would not recommend this prof. He knows a lot of math, but when teaching he thinks he is talking to himself. Very hard tests. However, he gives a lot of extra credit throughout the class that help obtain good grade. Make sure you STUDY the book and do at least all the odd numbered problems of each section. Don't forget the test corrections.
Wow thank god i looked at this its only been two days since i entered his class wow wassup with him. I cant understand anything of what he says terrible accent. im defintely dropping out
HIS CLASS IS REALLY DIFFICULT. SAYS WEIRD JOKES AND I DID'NT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING HE WAS TEACHING. HAD TO GO TO MATH LAB MAJORITY OF THE TIME. TRUST ME IF I HAD KNOWN ABOUT RATE MY PROFESSOR I WOULD NOT HAVE EVEN TAKEN HIS CLASS.
As with any class, if you really want it, you can get the A. However, it takes A LOT of private studying. If you don't use that book AND pay attention in class, it'll be difficult to pass. His accent is thick, but you get used to it. I do enjoy math, but this class was definitely the most difficult class I've ever taken. Go for it if you want it.
he passed talking about everything but nothing about the class, and in the test he is hard to correct : i did not put the exponent in a parabola and he gave me a zero for that, everything was ok except for the exponent 2
Terrible Professor. The class is somewhat enjoyable, but the test are extremely hard and he doesn't really teach what's on the test. He does not know how to explain correctly and when the highest on all 5 test was a 58 you gotta admit something is wrong with his teaching methods.
Taking his tests is pretty much a guessing game. Most of the questions come from the book and some just I think he got off the net or another early edition of the book he uses. He's only hard because of this reason, otherwise he's not too bad of a professor. He gives out extra credit to correct your mistakes in the exam and assignments to make up.
He is a great teacher.Yes, he has an accent, but that doesn't bother if you're interested to what he is teaching. If you want to pass his class, you have to dedicate a moment to work the material. You also have to have a great base in precal, otherwise you're going to complaint like many others. He really KNOWS calculus. If you need knowledge get him
horrible teacher, don't take him, all he says is he has been teaching math for 30 years, doesnt answer questions and doesnt care for your grade or if you learn or not, does not know how to teach.,,do not take any class with him.
Really I dont even know why this guy teaches. He's not willing to help. He just writes on the board really fast and will give a story every once in a while about his days in cuba in his heavy accent. Everything I learned in Calculus was putting in hours in the math lab.Unless you like talking to a wall don't take his class.
He goes over the material way too fast! Terrible at explaining/teaching. He has a very heavy accent, which makes it difficult to understand him. He tends to dislike it when students ask him questions and can be rude a lot of times. If you have to take Discrete Math b/c of your major, I strongly recommend that you do NOT take it with him.
the only way to learn math is to practice and this professor allowed me to see that. practicing from the text is mandatory if u intend to pass. be early for class and pay attention to everything he says. has an accent but you'll get used to it. doesn't make sense taking the class if you do not intend to do the work.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. First of all, he has a huge accent. Second, he doesn't like questions. The tests are really hard. He grades them really strict, he gives partial credit, but not a lot. There is not much extra credit. If he sees that you are trying, even if you don't do we'll on tests, he will pass you.
this guy is good teacher for the people whom the know their Cal already. His' test are easy if you go over the problems on the book. pick the hard ones. you have to take your time to learn, the only downside is his grading. overall I like this guy and his accent. almost knows everything about mathematics.
PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM. I LOVE MATH BUT I HATED IT TAKING IT WITH HIM. THIS IS MY FIRST CLASS I EVER WITHDRAW FROM. HE BARELY HELPS YOU AND ITS TEACHING METHODS IS HORRIBLE. THERE ARE 4 TESTS AND A FINAL.
Dr/ Garcia is the type of professor that loves the subject he teaches, but is not the best communicator of that content. He unnecessarily over-complicates basic mathematical concepts. If you don't like studying, YOU WILL FAIL. I tell you no joke. This guy requires your FULL dedication. Has a fairly lenient policy, and is a genuinely nice guy.
Professor Garcia is a good person, with a lot of knowledge but horrible teacher. Instead to guide you to approach the concept, he will confuse you a lot and on top of that he will stress you to the limit. My advice DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
He is not the type of teacher to mandate homework which is why his class is so hard. i had a low grade in his class and failed most of his tests with 50cent but he ended up passing me with a C because i visited during office hours. Hes a good man but you have to spend a lot of time in the math lab and atleast show that you learned something.
Prof. Garcia is a nice person, but this class is by no means easy. Yes it's challenging but doable. Lectures sometimes were really confusing and I had to self teach using the book and videos on youtube, and he does have an accent but it's understandable. And he gives up to 100 pts of extra credit. Overall, its a really hard but achievable, got an A
This professor teaches at a higher graduate level! No CW/HW. Grade based on 4 tests & final. This class REQUIRES at home studying or Math lab! The professor lectures and you go home and do the work in the book! If you do this, he will notice and you will pass. If you do not study out of class you will fail. That simple.
If you are a math or physics major then this professor is for you. He will try to make you understand the material on a deeper level, and it takes that understanding to do well in this course. The class is challenging and if you want an easy A then do not sign up. This professor will prepare you for university level mathematics.
Wicked smart but too much sometimes. Lessons are based on textbook usage and connections between physics and math. Tests based on concepts and textbook probs; test corrections are available. During lecture he maintains eye contact, like looking into you. Does ask for volunteers during class. Do expect to study, pray, and ask for help to pass.
I would not recommend anyone take him. Unless you are super good at studying by yourself don't put yourself through this class. Im failing and I am great at math, I just didn't have time to review alone and he goes so fast if you don't get it your screwed. If you love yourself don't do it!! He is nice, he has a heavy accent but not a great teacher
DO NOT Take Him!!! im saying this for your sake, unless you already know calculus REALLY well & even then its still hard with him. Even when u study a lot He still gives u the worst problems he can that will make u fail. Take it from this if your whole class is failing (and we even did hours of group studying) then maybe your methods are off
If you do not study, you won't pass.
I can see that he knows a lot, but he just does not know how to teach. No homework. And the most tests I got C or D except one "B". the final grade he gave me a "B". However, He is a good person but not a good teacher.
dont do it. just dont. hes nice, he nows his shidnits, but he will think you know too. hes not teaching you, hes 'reviewing' things he expects you should already have learned on your own. you ask him a question, he'll make you go to the math dept. for tutoring. just please dont. just dont.
This professor is not friendly to questions, he will scold you for not understanding and tell you to go to the math lab. He has an accent and while manages to remain clear, doesn't manage to compensate for how difficult his tests are. He gives extra credit, but no study guide, no hw, and a really weak review.
If ur looking for an easy A,walk away now. If ur willing to work hard, and truly want to learn, he's ur guy. This old guy knows EVERYTHING about math!! DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HIS CLASS! Tests are OK, but he grades super tough. Do all the homework for the sections he assigns (not mandatory). Had him for Diff. Eq. Bust ur butt from the start, trust me!
This professor knows his stuff, he is smart but definetely not a good professor. He will do the easiest exercises in class and will shoot you the most difficult one in the test, try for another one please, help yourself
Difficult, time-consuming class taught by a brilliant, charismatic professor. His knowledge of higher-level math can be intimidating, but you'll learn the material in depth. There's no homework so your grade depends exclusively on the tests (with a heavy participation bonus). Test problems are straight form the book so practice with those.
This teacher is very smart, however if you are not good at math then do not take him. He goes super fast and the lectures are long and heavy. He gives the easy examples in class and the hard questions in the test. The test are long and I feel like he doesn't give enough time. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU DO NOT HAVE TIME TO COMMIT TO STUDYING OFTEN.
Excellent professor who knows his material. Although each test is hard and it is not an easy A, he gives extra credit to improve the grade. Book is recommended. Professor Garcia encourages you to deeply learn math.
I definitely understand the negative marks given to this extraordinary man. You will be taking ODE from a man with a PHD in Mathematics from the University of Miami; a professor of Physics for 15 years. 4 tests and a final. Examples of practical uses for ODE might be tested, but certainly explained. Insight into the state of mathematics today, BAMF
Hardest math teacher I've ever took in my life. Only has 4-5 tests the whole semester. No classwork or homework. The tests are extremely tough. That 4.4 level of difficulty should tell you something ijs. If you are not very strong in math I suggest for you not to take this professor. If you do take on this class good luck and GOD BLESS!!!
This professor knows his stuff, but he expects you to know the material with a degree of expertise that most people will not be able to develop with what he provides. I used to think I was good at Math, and I did not took this class lightly, I studied really hard but was not able to pass any test. Most students had the same experience has me.
This is the first review that I have written so far in all my student life , but in this case I had to take the time to do this. Please students out there, follow my advice DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER !! He will make your life miserable, he do not recognize your effort and dedication, please don't don't , worst prof ever, AVOID HIM .
Very tough professor. has a very heavy accent, handwriting is very sloppy. Kind of on the rude side too. He gets mad if you ask too many questions. People I know had to drop out from this class and some of them are failing the class. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Lets just say this. If you truly not good at math, dont go anywhere near his classroom because you will fail. But if you a math of physics major then yeah be ready for the challenge. Good luck.....
If you are planning to take a math class beyond MAC2311 (Calculus I), I would strongly recommend this professor. His teaching style is more old school, and focuses heavily on core understanding rather than rote memorization. Not a guaranteed A (I got a C), but guaranteed to leave feeling you have learned and understood the material.
Puts very difficult problems on tests and takes away points for minimal mistakes. Also you will probably fail or barely pass most tests. Anyway, if you have no choice and have to take this guy: always do the problems he assigns, always do the test corrections, participate in class, and laugh at his jokes. That's how I got an A
His is a test only grade class for this class i recommend having a study group. He spends about half the class talking about whatever and the other half teaching. Also i would say he isnt the easiest to follow or understand. If you have to take classes on north campus then take him but if not dont.
This guy is absolutely the worst professor in the history of professors. His lectures are extremely boring and no one really understands what he's talking about except for maybe 2 or 3 students. He explains TERRIBLE and in very little detail, to add on your grade is purely based on tests and no reviews or homeworks are given. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I am a dual enrollment student and I do not recommend him to anyone. I got an A but, I believe it is because of khan academy and youtube. His lectures are messy and no one really understands his heavy accent and he is kind of rude. If u have to take him just study the Q's from the book, he puts those on tests. Good Luck!!!!
If you looking to pass calculus DO NOT TAKE HIM. He is the worst teacher, doesnt know how to teach, he acts like we already know the material. When you ask questions, it starts an argument. Doesnt provide study guides or additional practice work, he only grades exams and he doesnt give extra credit!
Honestly, this man is a very tough grader. He provides small space to answer questions in tests. He also has a heavy accent.
Very knowledgeable in the material and pushes you for your grade. If you think just by showing up, you will pass his class, go somewhere else. Do your due diligence and you won't have any problems.
Professor Garcia is a good person and a great mathematician, he sometimes forgets the latter when teaching. His class is demanding, and his tests are hard. However, if you desire to master the intricate field of mathematics he will be a very good start.(Tip: Study from the book & outside sources in addition the class. Participate. You'll be fine.)
Knows his stuff. Just not great at teaching it; doesn't explain it well enough to catch on fast. You have to learn on your own a lot. He does give make up work and helps improve bad test.
All I can say is run, if that's your last option you might as well wait for the next semester unless you use other resources outside the class you're not going to pass. he's a hard grader angry man, you miss a step the entire answer for that question is wrong . He gets mad for anything, he will even yell at you, for asking question, don't take him
(avoid) This professor has a very unique way of running his classroom , one in which isnt completely fair to the students . Not only does he not allow you to ask questions without indirectly calling you an idiot , but hes a really tough grader. My entire class failed . The emotional and mental stress isnt worth it . Pick another Professor
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T STUDY ! This professor doesn't take any excuses. For example, if your internet connection is down while taking one of his test, he will not care and will fail you because he thinks you're CHEATING. He will get angry if you asks any questions regarding your grades, and doesn't respond to emails.
I would like for whoever is reading this to just go ahead and select another professor . You will not pass with . He doesnt allow you to ask questions , he doesnt respond emails , and above all he doesnt understand English well so theres a huge language barrier . Do yourself a favor and select another professor . Youve been warned.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR PLEASE LISTEN SERIOUSLY!!! HE'S HORRIBLE AT TEACHING. The lectures are a bunch of nothing he reads from a sheet no examples given to help you with the material. He doesn't give you the chance to talk about YOUR grade. he's rude and pathetic. He yells at you, and doesnt want to hear what you have to say. you will not pass.
The reviews are right , Do not ignore the reviews about him, I made that mistake and still enroll in his class after the first 2 days in his class I immediately withdrew from the course . Professor Felix Garcia doesn't help you at all he will tell you straight up go the math center and they will tutor you . Listen to the reviews and don't take him
I dropped out of his class after the first day of taking him . He teach by reading from a math book and when giving examples he honestly just read the example instead of teaching you the problem . Every time I ask him for help he answers "what now ? you need help , go to the math get a tutor . He get mad when you ask him to explain some again
Honestly I'm surprised this professor still teaching at Miami dade college north campus after all bad reviews and rating he's receiving . Everyone please do your self this favor and listen to the reviews, If you wait till last minute to register for class and he the only class left , wait till next semester to take that class. you won't regret it !
Despite being a great in Math, this professor made me question my intelligence in the subject. I'm used to old-fashion professors but this guy just put the epitome of H-E-L-L and he will let you live in it. He doesn't care if you don't turn in your test BECAUSE OF SYSTEM FAILURE but he'll blame it on you when it should be his job to do so. SO LEAVE
Let's just start with originally I DID NOT chose him because the prof I wanted was changed to him LAST minute and I can see why. I suppose the school didn't want this prof to have NO students at all but if I were you, if you see this name, DONT EVEN BOTHER. He seems doable at first but as the class progresses, he just keeps getting worse. Leave now
5 exams(100 pts)Final (150 pts) Not proctored, no my math lab/homework grade, tests: handwritten and must be scanned and sent via blackboard so he checks for work. If you get only half or less of points per question, extra credit available is to complete 5 extra similar questions. Grading test scale unclear, doesn't tell you why you scored that way
The professor seems like he knows what he's teaching but he's hard to understand. When I asked him questions it would seem like he's giving me an attitude. He graded just the 4 tests and final. He may allow you to do test corrections for extra points, depending how much you improve. I don't recommend him.
This professor is so rude and the only grades you'll get are through 4 tests with test corrections and a final. He gave me, along with other students, an attitude for asking a simple question. He had yelled at another student for no reason. His handwriting is hard to read, he is hard to understand and put me on the spot many times. Don't take him!
This professor just gets mad at simple things no joke. His lectures are a bit too much and he gives all tests, no extra credits or any other work. No midterm but just a Final. If you want to pass pick someone else.
Very disrespectful teacher. Not one time was he ever nice or happy. Every time you had a reason as to why you couldnt do something, hed always scoff and shake his head while mumbling little comments under his breathe. I do not recommend this teacher to anyone.
Do NOT take his class. You find out you have an exam in the class when you just log in to the class. Very dismissive when genuinely confused on equations. Quizzes are not hard, you could provide the best work in the entire class and he will still score you 20/100. There is text book but didnt use it. Boring lectures and overall a rude person.
(STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER) hes a horrible person and teacher overall, very rude and dismissive. He will not hesitate to disrespect infront of class when confused about a question. He will call you names and grade your work very hard even if youre performing at your best and studying. I hope he gets fired.
Do not take this professor if you care about your GPA.
Probably the worst professor out of all my professors after just finishing my double major. Impossible to understand, I would have preferred if he spoke to us in Spanish. Gives extra credit as a way to compensate for the ENTIRE class bombing his exams. Felix peaked as a college professor, didn't seem to do much else in life.
Listen. Do not take his course unless you're prepared to truly learn the math. I was in his class, despite not having any other choices, for the sake of earning a good grade and credits to be able to transfer back to UM . I'm glad. He pushed me beyond my boundaries in math and cemented my knowledge of math. His lessons stand up to any program.
