funny guy!
Pretty down to earth type of teacher.
this guy swears!!!! He thinks he's so funny!
This guy has jokes, tries to relate to youths, doesnt spend time appropriately
Some of his jokes are crude, but he's a good teacher. Knows what he's teaching.
funny and the time goes by fast. Must be some dumb idiot
very easy just do the work
Very entertaining. Lots of extra credit!
Funny guy, uses the same joke every sem.,but east teacher, gives a lot of extra credit.
GREAT JOKES, SOMETIMES WOULD TALK ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE. CANT GET NOTHING FROM THE LECTURE. WILL GET AN A IF YOU READ THE BOOK. OVERALL....GOOD TEACHER
read the book...lots of extra credit....it would help if you take hist 112 first....very easy...
He's a really nice and funny guy! As long as you do the work you should pass but the extra credit helps a lot. Write down whatever he says when he goes over the readings because it will most likely be on the tests. Respect him and he will respect you.
HILLARIOUS. YOU WONT GET BORED IN THIS CLASS. EASY. YOU SHOULD TAKE IT. =)
taken his class but i dropped because he jokes around 2 much and i dont understand the way he teaches. But im taking him again cuz he is a cool teacher he just jokes to much ahahaha.

Very Easy! 2 tests & final. Don't have to take the final if you got an A. Lots of extra credit;DO IT! Take advantage of the extra credit bcuz its worth it. Read the book; it helps. VERY COOL professor. I highly recommend him! Take him during the summer!
Tuyay is hella funny, he puts people on blast all the time and he does it inna nice way. Im takin his other Asian studies classes. He knows his stuff and he wants to teach he's dope
Mr. Tuyay is great. You will spend most of the hour laughing. You absolutely must read the book if you want good grades on the tests. But there is a lot of extra credit, and it's worth it just to have him as a teacher.
hes funny, but his tests are hard. u will have to read if u want a good grade and dont depend on listening to lecture for that. gives alot of xtra-cred n i advice u to do them..i only did 2 of them tho
I also too Asian 113 and can we say he talks about the same stuff... but it's all good cuz I got an A in both courses. Gotta read the book to ace the test or just do all the extra credit, that's how I got mine.
Very cool! Really fun class. Never opened the book once to read it. Tests are easy he gives you the questions. Gives a lot of extra credit, easy A.
Read the book. Jokes around a lot. Important not to be the stereotype quiet Asian in his class. He likes if you to speak up even if it's just atleast once. Offers a lot of extra credit which is fun to go to.

I love Prof. Tuyay. He is so funny. Gives ALOT of xtra credit. Easy tests! You can miss 16 and still get an A. You have 2 read the book, tho. I'd take him for all my Hist classes-Easy A!!!
Class is extremely easy if you READ the material BEFORE class. Teaches and lectures straight from book. Take advantage of all the extra credit & you'll get an A. Take my advice: READ THE MATERIAL BEFORE CLASS and you'll do fine.
Great class. The teacher was extremely funny and informative. Does not focus on historical dates, which was a relief.
This is a wonderful teacher. HE loves what he does and he trys to make the class fun instead of boring. He has a lot of asian pride because he is asian and he teaches that sourse also. The idiot with the stupid comment =(. You can learn alot from him.
One of the most entertaining history teachers! Tests are fair, and reading the book and attending lectures really does help bc they are based straight from the book. Makes history learnable! Proud of his heritage and makes people proud of theirs.
Tuyay is by far one of the funnest history teachers EVER! I took him for a summer course and I never ever even opened or bought the book! Just take good notes, do the homework, and speak up! Very easy and fun!
he alright...
This teacher is very funny or at least thinks he is. He'll sometimes pick on people (i.e he picked on some guy practically everyday because he was mormon). He expects everyones full atention or else he'll have a little power trip!
Prof. Tuyay is great. He made learing History a enjoyable experience. I took him for both 100 & 101 and don't regret a single moment. He grades fairly, is very understanding, and tries to relate to the students. Best of all... no memorizing of dates!
Very easy course. Gives tons of extra credit and bonus points on tests. No need to read the book, he lectures off the test, and gives you the test questions in a review. Just take good notes and do the extra credit and your guaranteed an A.
this guy is a great teacher and is super funny.he says stupid things and jumps around like a retard.he also makes weird noises.class is easy.3 tests and a project.
this guy is a walking jocke, super cool, funny and laid back, if you dont pass his class with all th extra credit you gotta be retarded...
We are the white mexicans... well... I found his jokes seemingly ammusing. His class was fun to go to and he has a sort off quirky attitude towards EVERYTHING!!!
Makes History fun and interesting! Funny teacher who makes you want to learn more!He appreciates participation! But hey it's easy extra credit.Remember to bring a recorder when he reviews for the exam because he gives a few exam questions!
4 test and a project! tells your everything thats going to be on the test. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! he's hilarious and cracks me up! he makes you want to attend class! i took him for 100 and 101 and don't regret it! got a B in 100/101 and didnt read the book!
Tuyay is the BEST history professor EVER!He is really funny and makes the most boring subject seem interesting! He is very fair!He says "he doesn't give grades, you earn your grades" which is very true!LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT!GREAT CLASS!
AWESOME TEACHER!
EXTRA CREDITS! hes soo easy but at the same time he makes the subject understandable. let him pick on you at times! he picks on people he likes so HAH. :)
Tuyay Rocks,Man! Excellent teacher. Pay attention for review sessions and you'll do fine.
COOL PROFESSOR
Tuyay's a teacher that wants students to break stereotypes and do more to unite the asian community. He's hilariuos with the jokes(sometimes cheesy), but it's to keep the students interested. Take his class, and do something positive with what you learn.
His lecture is very interesting and fun. Since I started this class I am more aware of our (Asian)background, culture, soc status and necesity of getting involved in the politics. This is an eye opening class for me. Highly recommend to Asian Americans
Very inspirational teacher, tells it like it is and is real about it. Is also very hilarious and makes class enjoyable, considering I had a 3 hour block with him.
hes good very good
this guy is a aomplete joke and it puzzles me how he is even a teacher at the college level. he's a good guy with cheesy jokes but don't take him if you want to learn something
He is a great history professor. He makes history fun and interesting to learn. I highly recommend him.
he is the funniest teacher ever. i really enjoyed being in his class. great teacher :)
Fun, interesting class. Makes lots of cheesy jokes but does his part to keep the class interesting. Offers a ton of extra credit but make sure to do your reading in order to pass the midterm exams. Highly recommended.
Great teacher!!!! Loved his class!!!!!! Everybody should take this guy!!! He is a funny guy!!!! Very passionate about the subject he teaches!!!!
Very Funny Guy, can make things Very Interesting. Enthusiastic about his work and actually cares about education and the community at large. Only real downfall is that jokes and stories do get distracting.
This teacher is hilarious! Tests are somewhat difficult though.
Here's your chili peper Mr. Tuyay! Just kidding! Wonderful man and very funny! A wealth of information on Asian Americans that are left out in traditional history books. Plenty of ext credit but you miss out if you don't read the book. Will take 113 before he goes on sabatical in 2005-2006.
This professor is da bomb diggity..ha..ha!!! I enjoyed being in his class. Yes, his tests are difficult...but you know what READ READ READ! If you don't like to read, don't take his class becoz his tests are based on the readings. What do u expect its a history class :)
funny teacher lectures boring read textbook do all extra credit tests are textbook based studyguides will help
very intresting class, if you take notes it is a fairly easy class
Great Professor! Learned a lot from him about Asian culture and in particular Filipino American culture. This guy is a blast. He's funny at times, but also a no nonsense kind of guy. Professor Tuyay's the best! =)
This teacher is the most easiest teacher in ther world. It is so easy that you can even get an A in his class kist bu sleeping. Listen very carefully to his lecture and take good notes. He jokes to much but someimes he can go overboard and anoy you up the wall and all you want to do is stick food
Very interesting class. The most easiest class you could ever take @ SWC.Great spoonfeather on the material. Don't even have to buy or read the book. He will do ther work for you.Just listen carefully and take notes. Chessey jokes, needs to stick a sock in it cuz very annoying.A kickback class, easy A
I hate history but this class was too easy not to pass. He tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests and you have one class presentation that is very easy to prep for. Just take notes and review.
Tuyay is hilarious!!! Tests r a bit hard, study a little bit and you'll pass! On finals day, he shook everyone's hands and commented them, he told me "thank you for coming whenever the hell you want" haha and I got a B in his class!! =D
Vey FUN teacher, if you like to sit in the class room and stay quiet this is your class, he never ask you, he has a good grading method and help you to pass the class, he almost give you the questions for the exam, it's your fault iy you don't pass.
the guy is hilarious! loves to make jokes but you cant make jokes! dont talk when hes talking he'll put you in the spot (speaking from experience) he's "hott" he says. but everyone has their own opinion. read the books and study the handouts he gives you. if you want to pass be in his circle!!
he's rude and if he's in a bad mood he'll take it out on the class or on you.
test kills you!! plus attendance!!! very fun lectures though.. and funny guy!! a lot of goofing around,, but make sure u take notes on what he says ... a lot of reading but on test he only pick out certain part.. very fair,, there's lots of extra credits to make up a bad test grade
CLASS IS EASY...IF IM DOING GOOD,ANYONE CAN
really great guy...take his class...
This teacher is comedy! This class would be boring as hell without his jokes. Time fly's when you're having fun. Just got to read and study every once in a while and you'll pass. However, if history is your worst subject (as it is mine), you'll probably struggle on the tests.
great professor! hilarious!! kept me awake and interested in the topics. some reading here & there, but not entirely bad. they're easy readings anyway.
He was a very nice and funny man. He tells a lot of short stories, jokes, comebacks, and 1-liners to keep you awake. He gives you questions and topics for the tests. He makes you read quite a bit, too. He even offers plenty of extra credit to do. There's no way you can do bad, unless you're not committed. He's an easy history teacher.
VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, EASY!!!!
Basically what I learned in Hist 113 is what I learned already in Hist 112.
second class with him. same jokes. still funny. Lectures are easy to watch/listen when he jokes. Tests and Quizes are a little out there compared to the actual readings tho. For atleast showing up and paying attention you should be in the C range.
He's awesome!, he's super funny, just don't be a smart ass cause you'll piss him off (until the next class). Lots of extra credit, just have to do them and you'll be OK. Study for the tests! and read before class and you should be fine. Participate and he'll like you.
Do the xtra credit if you know whats good for you
Do the readings before class to be prepared for discussion. TRUST ME, do the readings cuz NO ONE ever does for some odd reason, and you'll get some points if you answer the questions in class. There are also pop-quizzes on readings and u get points for scoring high on those too. DO THE READING, AND YOU'LL BE FINE.
Great teacher and very funny (if you like cheesy humor.) He's a really great guy who's going on "sabatical" this Spring for I don't know how long...but if you get the chance, take his class! It's an experience :)
You must do the readings & you'll be fine. He has a very "eye-rolling sense of humor"-- you roll your eyes & laugh @ his jokes. Overall, if you don't pass, it's your fault because you didn't read. He really is a good teacher who loves students who participate in class. (Next semester he said his tests will be essays though...g'luck!)
This professor make History interesting. He is very entertaining. Just make sure you participate in class and pay attention. Not an easy A or for lazy students. The tests are somewhat hard, but they will test you on whether or not you know the CAUSES of history rather than dates and other trivial facts.
Very funny man. Kept everyone in class interested, says randomn things ALOT. Great teacher. Make sure u participate! Gives extra credit assignments. Study and you'll be fine. Did i mention he is funny like our parents funny ahah =)Tuyay!!
He is a funny and smart teacher, he was easy-going and played jokes. He was not hard at all, you just have to read the book and take notes.
What a great teacher! Tuyay was fun and engaging, and he really made the subject interesting. I would take his class again just for the heck of it. I didn't walk out of his class with an 'A', so it's not all giggles, but I really enjoyed myself.
Haha.. Tuyay is a big cheese ball! I just finished his fast track class and it was a lot of information, but he gives you a lot of opportunities for extra credit. If you want to learn about Asian History and don't mind a bit of humor Tuyay's the instructor. He's not like any other history teacher you'll probably get.
hes alright... he uses the same jokes in every class. he tries too hard to be funny. goes off on different subjects a lot. you could read the book by yourself without his lectures and do well on the test. he gives tons of extra credit.
This was my first history class at Southwestern and I was the least to say excited. However, Mr. Tuyay makes you want to learn about history, he gives you all the important information while relaying it to everyday challanges and occurances. If you want a professor who will actually make history exciting to learn about take Mr. Tuyay.
Prof. Tuyay is a good teacher. You do have to keep up with the readings if you want to do well in the class. Often times we just chit-chat about current events and how history has influenced what's going on today. He is really big on critical thinking. Not an "Easy A", but you will defnitely learn a thing or two in his class.
His lectures are useless as far as the tests are concerned, you have to read the book. A couple papers was the only homework. Tons of extra credit. Easy if you actually read the book.
if you like history and very important reading, then take his class. He gives study guides for the test(5 in the semester), read 6 chapters per guide and you'll pass the test. If you don't good luck!. lots of extra credits:). He know what he's taching but needs to be more clear. And if you want to know what he's talking about, read the day before.
he's okay but not fully aware of his surroundings and environment. He careless about the students work but hes okay just an average person.
he was fun and cool professor. You will learned a lot from him
I honestly thought I was not going to pass his class but I did with an A. He is a great teacher, if you pay attention you will understand everything he is talking about. I recommend you take his class, he might come off as a harsh professor but he isn't.
Read the chapters and you get lost because he's basically goes indept with that. His jokes are funny THE FIRST TIME ONLY!! He tends to repeat them! Be prepared to end the class with a BIG essay
Tuyay is a very engaging instructer. He makes the class fun and rewarding. As long as you read the text and participate you should ACE the class. Excellent teacher for returning/older students.
I give this teacher an A++, even though I got a C in his class. He's a pretty cool guy, extremely hilarious! I recommend you take advantage of his extra credit assignments, it will help you out a bit at the end. His tests are somewhat easy and somewhat hard, so know your stuff!
Professor Tuyay is a great Instructor. He expands the readings in class, so READING the books are very key. He helps you realize alot, so pay attention. He is extremely funny so have fun, but work hard.
I had him for both Hist 100&101 over the summer for 4 weeks and managed to get an A in both class. Interesting teacher, but gets of history topic once in a while. I was surprised to learn a lot in his class. Grading is easy. Participation is a must & need to write a research paper. other than that you'll do fine!
Had him for Asian American History. Hilarious man but at the same time kind of like a weird Uncle. Lectures are sort of boring & there is a lot of reading assignments but have no fear theres enough extra credit for you to do in order for you to receive an A. Seriously I had a D on my first midterm but turning in my project early raised it to a B
Amazing teacher, Ive had him for two history classes. Awesome sense of humor, makes the class extremely fun! Gonna miss taking his classes! TUYAY!!!
He is a joke.. the class is just talkin about his son.. He encourages students to drop the class.. You have to do a 7 page research paper... stay away from him.
Awful teacher. Although I am doing fairly well in his class (I study crazy for this class particularly over all my others)Professor Tuyay expects you to know everything before hand and does not teach well. He definitely picks favorites. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this professor.
took him on summer. read the book cause everything's from there!! one 4 page paper. class tends to be boring but if you like american humor, you'll like him. tries to be funny & crack jokes a lot! sometimes funny & sometimes he makes fun of students & tells them not to take it personal. got a C :( just try to keep in track as much as you can. don't
great teacher. and no, he doesn't expect you to know everything. if anything, he expects you to know a little more about YOUR OWN CULTURE since it is YOUR CULTURE. if not, then thats why hes there. does a good job relating to the students so that everyone feels comfortable in class. tests are simple enough, takes it from readings/handouts, SO READ!
A lot of reading.
this guy is a spaz. Always tells the same jokes almost every semester along with talking about his son. his teaching methods are lame. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!! the seven page paper is WACK!!!
I don't know what some people are talking about. He rarely talks about his son, except to wonder if he talks about his son too much because of random comments left on ratemyprofessor. He's funny, and as long as you do some reading and participate in the class, you'll do fine. A good teacher overall.
Awesome professor. I really enjoyed the class and all how his stories relate to topics going on in the class. Never missed a day.
tuyay is the man the class is easy as long as u read the chapters i mean come on he gives u a study guide with everything on his exams all you have to do is pay attention and participate and youll do fine.. great guy cares about his students and well being .. jokes are lame but all older peoples jookes are lame but you will have fun
He is awesome! I really enjoyed his class and it was my favorite class. He gives out lots of extra credit. There are 2 midterms and 1 final. midterm is you are wrinting an essay. He gives you possible topics. Easy A if you read all the material!!!
Horrible prof! I took his class because it was a req & he got a good rating on here. I am currently enrolled & I have no idea why he got good ratings. Everyone who I know that is currently taking his class, doesn't like his teaching either. He jokes around way to much & tries to hard to get the class to laugh. He simplifies everything but the test
Mr. Tuyay is a great teacher. He makes the class fun and interesting. But you have to work hard to get a good grade. All the extra credits he offers are a plus. Take advantage of them because they help!! Don't listen to the bad ratings Mr. Tuyay! They're probably the ones that fail your test and don't study...
I took 100 and 101 with this guy. Got a C in 100 because i was new to the college scene and didn't really study that much. I got an A in his 101 class simply because i put in more effort. Not an "easy A" but not a hard class either. Attend class, take notes, study the book and notes for the test and you'll be good to go! He's super fun!
Although not an easy class, Tuyay does give alot of extra credit.. Also, he gives you 60 question on each test (50 graded, 10 extra credit). If you do poorly on a test you can pull your grade back up on another. And he only requires about 3 papers in the semester. The primary cause of failure in his class is student laziness.
awsome teacher
Tuyay picks favorites, and teases people he does not like. He is fairly annoying.
He's a really goofy Filipino uncle. He can get off topic sometimes.. Read your textbook and keep up with the chapter and you'll pass. I didn't read the book AT ALL and I got to pass 'cause I did all of his extra credit stuff, which is a lot. I recommend him.
There are two types of students in Tuyay's classes: those who love his jokes, and those who find them really annoying. He gets off topic a lot and sometimes can go almost a whole lecture without teaching much about American history. However, he does give a ton of extra credit and tests are multiple choice, so if you want an easy class I'd take him
Mr. Tuyay has a sense of humor but some people can't take it. IMO it made the class more fun. although its not an easy class he does give a lot of extra credit. do take advantage of them. always come to class, take notes and read and you'll be fine. the people who are complaining are probably the ones that were too lazy to actually study.
your gonna have to read, and study hard because the chunk of your grade depends on multiple choice tests that he makes purposely tricky. he does have favorites and they usually do better on extra credit stuff, and if your quiet, hes gonna pick on you I RECOMEND only because hard work will get you an A
if you really want to learn some history, don't take ths class, he jockes around waaaayyy too much. goes off topic a lot. seven page essay is just stupid. his recist jockes are not funny at all. specially on black people, mormons and witnesses, you can pass just by doing extra crdits and a good final. uses diff scantrons LOVAS something
Took this teacher because he had good ratings, but I regretted taking his class. Too many jokes, and his lectures don't help. He gave us the study guide a class day before the test day (not enough time to study)! Definitey don't recommend this teacher.
Notes in class not well organized. Participate in class. Don't take his ridicule personally. Be passionate for Filipino History. Read the books. Be VERY specific on midterms. Extra credit will help improve your score and give insight on your experiences of the Filipino influence in the U.S. Use this class to improve awareness of Filipino culture.
I do not know why people say that tuyay Is not a good professor. this professor goes over and beyond to help his students learn the material and pass the class with a decent grade.
What an awesome professor! Although his class is not an easy A, one must study each chapter well in order to grasp the material, he explains the concepts clearly and fully well. He is a great teacher, and Southwestern College needs more faculty like him because he teaches with a great sense of humor. Just do your part and you'll enjoy his class.
He is great and a funny teacher i always look foward on going to his class however; there is a lot of reading involved in his class and don't wait for the study guide because you shouldn't be reading at the last minute you are suppose to be ahead of the teacher. He gives a lot of extra credit so take advantage of it you might need it in the end.
Not an easy A. He jokes a lot and tends to get off topic. Reading the books is a must. Memorize all the facts and you'll do good. Do the extra credit he gives.
You either like him or hate him. No other teacher can make you laugh like he can, but you'll probably hate him if you're the one he's making fun of. Read the book or he'll put you on blast. Do the extra credit to get an A. Not the best teacher, but interesting at the least.
Tuyay is a funny history professor! He makes history fun and interesting. He is an understanding person and gives out extra credit assignments that help to boost the grade. It is helpful to read the online lecture guides. I really recommend Tuyay! you won't regret taking his class.
He gets off subject a lot, he talks pretty fast & doesn't exactly make sure you grasp the material he's talking about. He jokes & laughs a lot whether you like it or not. Definately read before class, because he gives random quizzes to make sure you read. lots of extra credit. Study guide should be given way in advance though
Had him for Asian American Hist. hes super funny and even though he gets off topic ALOT, it the end it had a moral. RECOMMENDED you get him if you can
I had this professor during the summer session, he was ok. The only problem was that if you dont read the book, you will have a hard time during his lecture. The best thing about this professor is that he gave ALOT of extra credit, if he gives you extra credit you might want to take advantage to each and every single one, because it will help you!!
Prof Tuyay loves to teach, kind of bias in his Asian history classes, always talking about Filipinos since the class majority is Filipino which makes it understandable. You really need to read the books and really read the sections he tells the class to read. If not, just like any other class you are dead meat (you will get a C or below).
A nice professor at swc, likes to tell jokes , READ before going to his class bc he will make quizes & if no one reads he will kick the whole class, try to do the xtra credit!! It will help alot! Do the Research paper as soon as he gives instruction bc it is 7 pages ...dont miss class & participate ..it counts !!!
Tuyay is by far one of the best teachers ive had at SWC. he likes to joke a lot(he always jokes about never having any peppers on ratemyprof). tests are based on reading and lecture. VERY EASY tests. TAKE HIM! no homework, one project.
This is one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. His class was really fun! Tests are easy if you pay attention in class (which will be easy because he makes it very interesting). TAKE HIS CLASS!
Tuyay was by far the most funniest prof at SWC that I had! I hardly ever read the books but I passed the course with a 'B' due to the extra credit so take advantage of them! He doesn't have favorites but he will call you out just for fun. Stay active in the course and don't be shy. This is a class where you can express yourself & he encourages it.
One of the best teachers I've had in college. His lectures keep you interested, he's pretty funny, & if he gives you a hard time, it's all in good fun. He's also really accessible in terms of office hours & needing to talk to him after class. TONS of extra credit.
Great inspiration. Knows his culture and his people. Took me to my first pilipino play "Dog Eaters". Inspired me to get teaching credential and masters degree when most people put southwestern college education down.
Decent at best. Had a hard time following some of his lectures as he was often off on a tangent. Not much clarity throughout course. Definitely a doable course. Funny at times, nice guy too.
I took Tuyay in 1999. He's a great teacher, plenty of extra credit, easy A. Because of him and his great class, I'm now in Harvard getting my doctorate. Thanks Tuyay.
One of the best teachers I ever had. Not an easy A, you earn your grade with him. He does give awesome extra credit. Makes learn interesting, calls out slackers and rewards hard work. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Two essays, one research paper or video, one 50 pt. scantron final. A ton of extra-credit, I'm talking ridiculous amount. The essays are cheese as well. Just literally jot down "key terms" and you're good to go. Make sure you write about the "internment camp" in the first essay. I literally feel like an expert of Asian American history.
Easy give u all the answers
I love Tuyay! He's really funny, always making stereotypical jokes. TAKE HIM!!!
He studers. Also, he does seem to know what the hell he's talking about. He reads off a website. His jokes are lame. Some are funny, but he just doesn't seem to teach. He prefers to joke and play around making fun of students, which can be funny, but at the same time something not expected of a professor. Cut the bs Tuyay and TEACH!
Take Him.. You will learn a lot of Asian history.
Enjoyed his class! If he say's you can use recorder do it. He will give out a few questions on the text. Get on the "Circle of Friends" and you'll get a good grade. He also offers a lot of extra credit. Tuyay has jokes! Had me laughing, made the class go by faster, NOT BORING. Later Tuyay
I enjoyed his class. Take notes and when he says you can use a tape recorder do it. He will give you the questions to the text. Get on the "Circle of Friends" and you'll get a good grade. He offers extra credt. Nice teacher and very funny. He's got jokes.
Professor Tuyay was excellent! Always looked forward to his class. He gives a lot extra credit and is more than fair. Learned interesting things in his class and enjoyed his jokes! He made the class fun.
Tuyay is an excellent teacher. He's very funny, approachable and knows what he's doing. Participation is a must and pay attention. Typically whatever he covers in class will help you on the test. So recording his lectures will help :)
He was really funny, but his jokes are so repetitive. Record his test reviews and you'll do fine on the tests. He rambles and gets off topic a lot, easy A!
He assigns readings to class. During lecture all he'll do is make jokes or read the book to class, and you pretty much have to guess which terms he wants you to write on the essay test. If you miss ONE key term in a HUNDRED, he'll drop your grade down a letter. It seems arbitrary. I could've learned everything by just reading at home.
Although he's constantly telling the class jokes, it's only to maintain our attention. He's an excellent professor who teaches you a lot about yourself, which is important, and other cultures. Everything coincides. Basically, read the book and handouts. Those will help a lot for tests--which there aren't that many.
Get the book, it's an essential part in passing the class! Overall, great professor and excellent class.
very funny guy, b.s. a lot, lots of extra credit
Took him Spring 2012 and got an A. He offers a lot of extra credit. They are 3-5 points each but really add up since the class is out of 200 points. Don't be afraid to ask questions on review day. Took him at 8am. Too early for history. Everyone hated the 10 page research report. He allows wikipedia, so don't stress. Start it early.
In most history classes you are expected to memorize the important information and dates. Not in this class. Tuyay expects you to memorize the most mundane information that has no historical importance, then tests you on it. I got A's in my last 2 history classes, and dropped this one because of his horrible teaching style. Avoid this class.
Prof. Tuay is gets involved in your educatio. He is a good educater who cares about what he does.
Professor Tuyay is definitely brilliant. He provides an enriching insight of Asian American History. He is both very hilarious and wise. I recommend this professor to anyone who wants a professor that explains the subject well with funny stories. I learned alot from this man. Take him :) he's worth it. Make sure you buy the textbook, its vital
Professor Tuyay is by far one of the best professors that I have had the pleasure of having, if not the best professor to teach history. He does expect you to do A LOT of reading but come on now, he's not going to spoon feed you. I would highly recommend him to any students that are highly motivated.
Professor Tuyay tells a lot of jokes but is very clear on his expectations. As long as you are there for the reviews, read the required reading and don't disrupt class you will do well. Sometimes goes a little off topic but doesn't expect you to memorize dates! Overall great teacher, best for motivated students and history lovers!
Stay on his good side.(Laugh at jokes, PARTICIPATE, and overall show that you care about the class). Some assignments have alternatives which can help your personal skills. Definitely makes an Asian-American History class engaging to say the least. Finally book is used 80% of the time unless stated otherwise.
BEST TEACHER EVER! Love this guy! Funny, cool, helpful, awesome! :D
He goes extremely fast on his lectures and he expects you to read 1 chapter per day, other than that his class is quite easy, just take notes and pay attention and of course read. Two midterms, one final, and a 10 page research paper. Not the best professor but i guess he is okay.
Tuyay gets off topic very easy and is all over the place. He is one Teacher that i wish I didn't take. I am a very straight forward learner and he just talks about random stuff throughout lecture and doesn't really teach you anything. His test are even more confusing. This class was a WASTE OF TIME. He is doesn't have any organization to the class
There needs to be more extra credit, class is very hard, there is already extra credit, but it needs alot more
Tuyay's classes are amazing. I don't know why the two other recent reviews were negative; maybe they want a professor that is extremely difficult. Tuyay's classes are filled with fun and jokes, and there is plenty of EC to do! Just go off the study guide and you'll ace the tests. He even reviews the study guide to make sure people have answers!
He's alright I guess. He seems to be best for students who have some interest in history. I had little interest in it. This class doesn't really make you more interested or motivated. You seem to be expected to be a fanatic from the start, reading lots pages every day from the textbook. In-class times are used for review, not for learning.
Teacher talked about his life more than history. I did not learn anything so I didn't do good on my exams. I never dropped a class but this was my first time. He gets off topic A LOT!! One thing I liked was he gave out a study guide but that didn't help me much. In order to pass this class you pretty much have to teach yourself and read the book.
To keep it short and simple. Do not take this class unless you are willing to listen to this guy's personal problems as well as his corny jokes. This is the only class that I EVER had to DROP.
I'm not a history person BUT i took Tuyay and I ended up receiving an A. However, I did work for it! The good thing about this professor is that he maintains your full attention by cracking jokes, he might get off topic but quickly gets back to it. I recommend him! I took him for summer school and he gave lots of opportunities to raise up grade.
Tuyay's class was an okay class. His lectures were long and boring, you have to read the textbook before coming into class. Tuyay's assignments were very self-explanatory, again, to pass his midterms, you have to READ and prepare for it. Offers a ton of extra credit if you're falling behind. Participation is a MUST. Work hard and study.
he gets off topic a lot and jokes around. you need to actually take notes and read your textbook for his midterms. he gives a lot of extra credit. be ready to participate in class because he give participation points. very easy final.
Reading is a MUST. His lectures are boring which made time go so slow. He's funny at times and he goes off topic too often. Participation is a must and extra credit is offered. Assignments are self explanatory. I really should have worked harder for this class. Take advantage of the extra credit and participate, it will help your grade.
If you have taken Tuyay then you know that his papers are annoying and long. If not then his papers can become challenging. He will assign usually a research paper, 2 midterms and a final. However, once you leave the classroom you actually remember and retain history which is good. A funny teacher, jokes get old and loves to go off topic. Take him.
Prof. Tuyaay always kept the class interesting with his humor.
Very tough grader, but for a good reason. I passed History with an good grade therefore, i believe he's a good professor.
Tuyay is a pretty easy going guy. He grades by points so make sure u turn in all your assignments and do not do a poor job! He is a pretty tough grader but for good reasons. Just do your work and you will pass! Take his history classes!
Funny guy. Sidetracks a lot during lecture, but it's history, it gets boring. Very easy class, as long as you apply yourself. Do the review guide before the review date and he goes over the questions, just ask what questions you need help on. Make sure you record. As long as you do that, his tests will be easy and the answer will be right there.
Tuyay is very funny; pretty sure he reuses his funny stories but it's okay. Read the book, and participate in class and I'm sure you'll do fine.
He's gotta be one of the best professors that I've had the pleasure of experiencing a class with. The first day of class he made it very clear of what would need to be done in order to pass. I took it as a pre-spring course from January 4-28, so there was a lot of work to be done. If you stick it out and put forth some effort, you'll do fine.
Lecture's are out of the book & could be boring when he reads it aloud. Very laid back professor who loves to joke around with his students which makes the class fun and interesting. 3 tests, 2 of which are exams & the final is multiple choice plus 1 term paper. Books are essential to passing & he gives a lot of extra credit for those who need it.
Tuyay is a good professor and likes to have a good laugh. Focus on the pop quizzes and reviews. These will literally save you if you aren't picking up the material. His lectures are long but good. The only downside i would say is that his lectures don't specifically reflect the tests. It might be just me, but that's how i felt.
Prof Tuyay is a very likable teacher! He makes his class fun and interesting. However, make sure to do a lot of reading! Two of the exams are written so you better know the material really well. He gives you a study guide beforehand so that helps. He also gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit!
First of all, I'd like to say that out of all the classes I took, this was the only class that I loved going to and the only class that I looked forward to. With that being said, if you get easily offended, I wouldn't recommend taking this class. You actually learn things in this class and you get a good laugh too. I'd take him again. Fun class!
FIRST OF ALL the books are dirt cheap, so no whining. SECOND be sure to participate and make a name for yourself, he respects your creativity no matter who you are. GOLDEN RULE APPLIES! EC is possible and negotiable. Tests and term paper are the deciding factor for the grade. Attendance and reasons matter. Laugh at his jokes, you pass the class.
Prepared the class well for his exams; solicited personal experiences from class to make the lessons come alive; sessions many times were geared toward entertainment to connect with today's ADD generation; whimsical with awarding extra credit points; forgot at times to whom the extra credit points were awarded; used and allowed profanity in class.
Make sure you read the textbook!! Lectures are based on a summary and he just goes through it it. Big research paper due at the end of the semester. He likes to joke about everything.
Overall Tuyay is a funny guy and I really enjoyed his class. He gets off topic easily which makes his lectures a little bit hard to follow at times so make sure to study the exam guides he hands out. As long as you study the exam guides and participate you will totally pass.
Tuyay is a fun teacher. I did most of my studying at home, through the book and participated greatly with him during lecture. The class maybe dull or he seems to go off-topic at times, but I blame the lack of participating students in the class. Overall funny and great teacher!
Honestly, he's awful. I go to class to LEARN. He barely teaches, constantly off topic, thinks he's funny when in reality he's not. He bases the class solely on three exams, a TEN PAGE paper, and participation points. If you only want to go to class to bs and waste time, then this is the class for you. Good luck.
Tuyay was a chill teacher, but he goes off topic a lot. I will say that history is my least favorite subject, and I hardly bothered to pay attention in class because I don't care for the subject; however, he's funny and will give you a chance to pass. Seriously... I got Ds on tests but turned in my papers and passed.
Decent professor
Tuyay's class is very enjoyable and easy to pass. This professor dose an excellent job at staying to his syllabus for most of the course. READ READ READ !!!! literally all the answers to his quizs, assignmentso, midterms and finals are balanced between the reading assignments and his lectures. His lectures are a perfect to ask questions.
Prof Tuyay is a great guy! The test are based off the books so make sure you're reading and understanding the material. He does a little review the day before exams and make sure you pay close attention to the exam review. All points matter in this class make it count. Overall very easy course if you just do all the work.
He offers extra credit through out the semester and listen carefully while he lectures cause he uses the exams questions during lecture and give out the answers but you have to pay attention to catch it. he's not obvious about it so listen. he's easy and you learn a lot. laugh at his stories he just wants to make it fun for everyone.
Pretty easy and doesn't have much work (although that could be terrible if you mess up an assignment or two). Pay close attention to the study days before tests and you'll be alright.
Tuyay is a good professor for history. your grade consist on 2 midterms a final research paper and participation. extra credit is avaliable and take as much as possible because it can help your grade alot. study for all test and you will do fine in the class. the book he uses can be found online so look for it instead of buying it.
Make sure you take your time on the paper, its not too hard but does require you to put in more effort. Also do all the extra credit he gives out, it can really save your grade.
He talks about a thousand things at once and many times it has nothing to do with the actual class
One of my favorite professors! His class is not hard at all if you just pay attention and do your assignments. There are not many, so your grades are based off of your midterms, participation, research paper and final. Listen carefully when he reviews for tests, especially on study days. Yes, there is extra credit. Read when he says to.
I don't understand why some students complain about his jokes and that he talks a lot about stuff non related to class-- he is actually helping students in regards to diversion because he knows history class can be boring. He knows what he is teaching and he makes sure that his students learn valuable things. Best history teacher.
I was scared to take history classes and he makes it a point that we stay awake in his class. He gives extra credit and bonus points chances. Students just need to do all the work and reading and you're good to go. You make your own grade so participate even when you're wrong. He still appreciates it.
My fave professor! He's hilarious & really wants his students to pass. He is a tough grader on tests but he'll let you know what he wants before; 2 out of 3 tests are written. No daily homework, but 3 essays are required. He's very lenient and gives a lot of extra credit points, as well as participation points. Take his class, you won't regret it!
* Gives out the syllabus & shows what's due & tests dates etc. * Prepare to turn in typed papers * "Book is needed" but you can find the chapter outlines on the internet * Test are fairly easy * Record him when he goes over the study guide * Gives XC * Funny, caring, fair professor!
As much as I disliked history, Tuyay definitely made the subject interesting. When I asked for help after receiving a failing grade on the first midterm, he just said to "pay attention to the lecture and read the book". Later I found out he integrates the test in the lecture! So with highlights in the book using the study guide, I passed the class
This class was a fav class of mine. He goes off track a lot but that is what makes the class go by faster. Always has jokes up his sleeve. He gives extra credit. Take good notes and follow the study guides. That will be your best friend! he gives midterms multiple choice and 1 term paper. Don't stress it's not as bad as you think
He's a hilarious dude, Ive taken two of his classes There's one ten page paper, three smaller assignments, and three tests but he does give out extra credit. You don't really need to buy the books but it means youll need to do a lot of your own background research after he goes over the chapter in class.
He gives a lot of extra credit out so make sure you do all of them because it will all add up. He makes class fun by telling jokes. If you read the book there is a good chance you will receive an A in the class.
He gives good feedback on research papers, there is lots of reading and he gives people many chances of extra credit in class just for speaking up. He also makes the class entertaining by adding humor to it. Would take the class again.
He's the best. Hilarious and chill but you do learn a lot from him without feeling stressed. Practically gives all the answers throughout the semester just take notes. Super easy to pass and lenient, he gives out a couple long papers but is willing to help as much as you need. Just have to ask. Take his class you'll love him.
Mr. Tuyay has been one of the best instructors in SWC. He knows his materials. Expects participation. Test can be hard but he provides study guide and covers the whole material. He is funny and makes a lot of jokes.
Use the study guide to help you prepare for the test, also pay attention to his lectures because he reads the questions and answers that are on the test for each chapter. If you stay on top of the coursework you'll be just fine.
I dont even know where to start with this guy. Extremely unorganized, unprofessional, and all around a bad instructor. His study guides are random and have nothing to do with the exam. Hes not fun or a joker hes unable to teach with clarity and leaves the student hanging wether or not you read the required text. DONT REGISTER WITH HIM
Mr. Tuyay is the best. He is super hilarious! He's class is easy. However, you will need to write a research paper he gives a lot of extra credit. Take his class! (:
He is my favorite Professor. He makes class fun. He gives out good feedback & extra credit. Turn in the research paper early for extra credit if he does it for your class. Makes sure to read your book because the answers are really in it. Take notes on that you read and make sure to participate in class it will pay off for exams mainly the final.
Professor tuyay is a great history professor for someone who isnt a history buff like yours truly. I enjoyed/enjoy his lectures and teaching style. He doesnt give too many assignments but offers alot of extra credit throughout the semester.
The grading criteria could get confusing but as long as you communicate and always ask about your standing in the class you'll be fine. Also if you pay close attention to lecture, he basically gives you the answers to the exams; you just have to take really good notes. Lastly, Tuyay cares a lot about participation so make sure you speak out.
He was funny however very old school! Does not publish online homework, only accepts and hands out work in person. Sometimes his lecture agendas would be confusing and wouldn't really keep track. He's not that tech savvy so that's why everything is written in person. But he is funny and is able to empathize with community. Exams are written.
