Felix is such a hard professor, but it's so worth it. He is definitely fair and has such a love of the subject that it's contaigous. He's super smart, funny and really wants to see his students succeed, so while he'll test you like crazy, you'll learn!

So much material to be memorized for this class. Felix really loves microbiology and is rediculously smart. He is very clear and old fashioned when it comes to tests. ALL tests are definitions and essay. My first test was 8 definitions and 15 essays. Everything comes straight from your head. You WILL learn in this class.

Felix is awesome. He is so willing to help you. The other posters are right, he is difficult, but you will learn. He is very nice and an encouraging teacher. He will do what he can to help you succeed. He has a great personality, loves microbiology! He's a great teacher, one of my favorites of all time.

Felix is a great instructor. He is enthusiastic, can explain things for "micro-challenged" people, and is a genuinely good person. If you are slacker, don't take this class. He expects you to do your work SO do what's expected of you and learn! He'll give you a chance to make the grade, but it's entirely up to you and your ganas!

Felix is great professor who clearly loves to share what he knows. He really encourages critical thinking in class and on all assignments. He's very patient and will work with you if you need help. His tests are matching and short answer but he's pretty picky about what your response should include so make sure you have a detailed understanding.

Felix is an amazing professor. He is hilarious and one of the nicest teachers ever. He will go above and beyond to help his students and he honestly wants every student to succeed. His tests are some of the most difficult I have taken (write-in defitions, multiple choice, and essay) but they have challenged me and made me a better student.

Is an awesome teacher. The tests are a mixture of multiple choice, matching, and definitely essay quesitons. And gives lots of homework. You really have to work for your grade but he gives you every opportunity to be able to succeed.

Great teacher. Material can be tough at times, but he makes it so simple. You HAVE to study...more importantly, ATTENDANCE is a must. Little things that he says in lecture make up alot of what's on the exams. "in my old age, I've gotten a lot more lenient". He says that a bit, and it's very true. He tries to make the class as "passable" as possible

take micro class with this teacher, best teacher i had last sem. and do the optional project. he is very helpful but this class is not a blow off class, you must study and attend class to do well. he also makes it a very interesting class, and goes out of his way to help the students

Prof V is one of the best teachers I've ever had: he loves what he does, is very enthusiastic about sharing it, and looks out for his students. Its not an easy class- so read over the lectures & attend class, but his door is always open & an A is NOT impossible. Take him!

This was definitely one of the best professors I've had. He knows what he is talking about and puts it in a way that is understandable, if you don't get it, he is there to help. The exams are not easy but he doesn't test on anything he doesn't cover in class. Take Prof V if you need to take micro!

Professor V is an amazing teacher, one of the best I've had. He is laid back and extremely approachable. He is super friendly and goes out of his way to help his students. His lectures are interesting and easy to follow. The tests are challenging but if you put in time, an A is absolutely possible. Don't take him if you're looking for an easy A.

Felix Villarreal is the most talented instructors I have ever had; he obviously loves what he teaches, and his passion is contagious. He makes the students interested, thusly we perform better and retain more. However, YOU MUST STUDY and attend lecture to succeed. He is a genuinely nice person and is born to teach Microbiology! Worth every penny!

Terrific guy, great lectures, very enthusiastic.Labs are a disorganized mess. Lab tests are easy, but lecture tests are full of obscure tidbits and numerous essay questions. All the extra homework will bring up your grade. Recommended, but with reservations.

Felix is AWESOME! I took his class and ended up almost changing my major because he made the class so interesting. He tends to get off subject a little bit and the labs can be complicating. If you are unsure about anything he will help you until you know the information SOLID! I tell eveyone I meet that needs to take micro to take this guy!

Cute personality will make you laugh. Boyish charm. Made microbiology fun and comprehensible. Labs are a hot mess but fun. Hard at the beginning but its the material then it gets easier. He likes to go for the shock factor with the power points though. Not for those with weak stomachs. Other than that highly recommend. I learned alot.

Those that complain about this class don't know how to study for it. To ace to the course, BUY A DIGITAL RECORDER and record each lecture he gives and write his lectures out afterwards, try to write down everything, and ONLY study that, unless he otherwise specified to learn a chart or table. The reviews and powerpoints are relatively pointless.

Felix is a great teacher. He knows and loves the material, but more importantly loves his students. Go to class, do your homework, and an A is possible. It is "microbiology" so effort is required.

THE best prof I have ever had. I am not a science person at all and I struggled through Anatomy and Phys so I was dreading Micro. But this prof makes it interesting and explains everything in terms an average person can relate to. He CARES not just that you learn the material but about his students and their aspirations. Def take him if you can.

Here's the deal I like Felix and I made an A in his class, but it was because I did all the extra credit papers, nailed all the assignments, worked hard in lab, and studied extremely hard for his exams. They are difficult tests since he pulls everything from the PPoint decks he uses. He is super nice and always willing to help you if you need it.

I can't overstate how great this teacher is. He's an amazing person, too. I worked my butt off, and am proud of the B I earned. I wish he taught other courses! Don't bother getting the lecture text. He never used it. Print out his power point lecture notes, bring them to class to write notes on. He tests from these. Join a study group!

I have my Bachelor's from UTSA, have taken endless classes & Prof V is the best professor I have ever had. He is the reason I signed up to ratemyprof! He actually cares about his students, is very fair and always available for help. There is no text required b/c his exams are right from his notes. He truly wants his students to succeed.

Seriously listen. If you are smart and want to learn, take this class. If you are not exceptionally smart or have a stable life that will allow for good quality studying, DO NOT take Felix. He is the best teacher I have ever had. He will push you to work harder then you have ever worked before.

Fantastic professor! He made this class interesting and easy. He doesn't use a book, he has his own powerpoint presentations for everything; makes studying easy! His tests are challenging, you definitely need to know your stuff, but he tells you EXACTLY what to study. Same for lab practicals. DEFINITELY take his class!

He is not super easy but this is an andvanced class. Most passionate, hard working, caring, happiest teacher I have ever had. Complex material written out in a storybook fashion, very accessible. Felix is one of the best professors I've ever had. Micro may sound boring, but his passion for the subject and real-life stories made it so interesting and I actually retained the information. There is no book and all tests are from info in his Powerpoint notes. He is a jolly soul who really fostered a community environment in the classroom.

Great Professor. I would highly recommend him. There are no surprises. If you do not get an A it is because you did not study. I have seen him go so far out of his way to help students that obviously are shloosers. He cares that much! Take Pro V! You won't regret it.... unless your a shlooser.

Love this teacher! He is funny and has a great teaching style and personality. No need to buy a textbook- tests based on his slides. Very helpful. Labs were fun. Pro V was amazing. This not an easy class, but interesting. His positive attitude kept me motivated and stories are super interesting. Only used the book as an extra reference, his notes are enough. Not for everyone though, he can get sidetracked in lecture and not cover things on test. He wants to see you succeed and easy to talk to.

ProV is the BEST professor at ACC hands down. He is VERY helpful but also pushes you to do your very best. He has amazing stories and experiences that relate and help you understand the material. Its a hard class with a LOT of information & moves fast, but he makes it fun and interesting. ProV will explain things in 20 different ways if thats what it takes for everyone to understand it. ProV is an amazing teacher that genuinely cares about his students. Dont take this class with anyone else! Do the special assignment. He is not easy, but he goes out of his way to help his students and the grade you receive is a direct reflection on how much work you put into it. tests are so hard it is expected that the majority of the class gets a C on the test. Anatomy, physiology, and org chem needs to be taken to understand concepts. He is always available to ask any questions and is very nice about it. I struggled because I didn't have more of a science background. Articles, case and presentation helps grades up

He is an amazing professor, cannot say how great! He inspires his students. You will work alot but you will learn alot. You will work but you will enjoy it. Excellent prof and really passionate about microbiology. Students work in groups in lab. Challenging class, but you will learn and retain the material. Don't skip lecture, study days ahead for the tests (don't cram), and do all papers! Micro is never an "easy" class, but he makes it as stress free as possible.

One of my favorite professors. He loves what he does and is kind an helpful to students. You will need to do a lot of reading as the lecture powerpoints do not give enough info to be ready for the tests. Tests are somewhat challenging. There is no reason everyone can't get a good grade in his class because he will take the time to help you.

You will have an infinite supply of material to study from such as notes, power points. You get chances for extra credit so take advantage of it. He will always help, but be ready to work very hard.

Lectures are thorough, tests are tough, working in cohorts is the best thing about lab. I loved my cohort! Case studies, position paper essays, and infectious agent presentation all boost your grade. The presentation is so fun (practice that thing 8 times like I did). Participate, ask Qs, work as a team, and study if so you'll be fine.

Professional and personable. He really cares about students. Very respectful. Always willing to help outside of class. Responds to emails quickly. No need for textbook, all material on Bb. Five units total. Go thru online Flash modules while filling in notes and objectives. A few group activities. Ppt lectures are easy to understand.

ProV is a phenomenal professor. I've had him for two classes (1308 & 1406) and he's very consistent. Lectures are entertaining, there is a lot of reading & outside of class time (but that's kind of the point, isn't it?), but he covers all material on the exam prior to it! Very accessible outside of class too and he really cares about his students.

ProV is one of the most energetic professors I've ever had. He really loves the material he is teaching and covers are material prior to an exam. There is a lot of outside reading/hw, but that's to be expected for a majors-level course. I would highly recommend ProV!

He's caring and will not let you fail if you show him that you are dedicated, his exams are for people that understand the subject and didn't just memorize the information. Professor Villarreal is an amazing professor to take Bio with. He is extremely interactive with the students and genuinely cares for them. Literally the best professor I have ever had! just take him. Yes, it's a "lot" of work (we are in COLLEGE) but so worth it. Also, because there is so much homework, this alone is part of the study process so when the test comes, you're already almost an expert on every topic. will miss him very much.

It's so clear from the very 1st class that he wants his students to be successful. He sets you up to be, but the work is still yours. The class is organized so that you do online 'homework' before the lecture, go to class & do some sort of activity to really learn the material, then do that cycle all over again. He helps every step of the way!

Gives a lot of homework and expects to complete the modules. He always like to give is 1 or 2 extra credit for our exams. You must complete the objectives too or your grade will suffer. Do the work and you'll pass. Test are difficult but study and you'll do good. Will definitely help you for the entrance example!!!

Pro. V is a total gem. You've got to put in the work to get a good grade as this is a challenging course but he also meets you halfway. Lab will be mostly group works a trick is to record the lectures and listen to them later. Pay attention to the things he talks about more in class (essay questions). I love Professor Felix, he is caring & makes lectures interesting but with that he brings up some personal opinions in class. He talks bad about republicans & says you may not believe in evolution, but it is true. I wish he would just stick with the micro and not make it political/ theology class. I wish I would spoke up but he is super sweet!

His test are very hard. The lab exams are not hard but the lecture exam is there is 5 test with 60 questions. Lots of group project and you will have an unknown project. I wouldn't recommend to take him because his test are very hard.

PRoV is awesome! He is willing to go the extra mIle to help his students. His tests are based by how you can critical think. Lab practical are easy. His lectures are clear and full of information.

Pro V is a giant amongst other professors. He is a true facilitator of education and the education process. He is always a phone call away. He is very passionate about his field. YOU WILL have to put in the work for a good grade. CRITICAL THINKING IS A MUST! Upon completion, you will ultimately have an appreciation for microbiology.

ProV is a great teacher but you have to dedicate A LOT of time to the class. He puts you in a lab cohort and you have to do lab reports and take-home projects with the people in it so be prepared to have to followup with your classmates. Lab practicals and lecture exams are open note but they're hard so you still have to study or you won't do well.

ProV is great. He's really nice and has a clear passion for bio/microbio. The class covers a lot of material; it's essential to keep up. Labs are in cohorts, so you have to work in groups a lot, but for labs, he mainly cares about learning and not whether you do it right. If you complete the prelab and participate, you'll get a good lab grade.

Pro V is awesome! He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the work he does. He doesn't just teach you to get by, but he teaches you so that you will understand. He's so good that I told him that if Id failed his class I would retake him, because he wanted you to actually succeed wherever you were going. Worked with you to see you succeed.

OMG! He is really great. These other posts with students saying his exams are difficult are either not very committed to learning or do not have the background. Villareal sets you up for success and is caring for his students. He even lets you call him on his cell. Those dummies who wrote the negative post should consider another career.

4 exams (2 parts each, 1 part multiple choice 1 part short answer), HW every wk, group lab reports due every week (relatively easy). Felt that previous classes: chem+diet&nutr+a&p, allowed me to pass. Can go over material a tad bit quickly sometimes. If you turn EVERYTHING in and STUDY, you'll for sure get at least a B or an A. He wants you to pass

ProV is awesome at teaching micro. He is very caring for his students and teaches very well. His lectures are more conversational. He has great personal stories which relate to the content. You work a lot in cohorts for lab so you always have people to help you out during experiments & lab reports. Study! Don't slack off! Turn in your assignments.

ProV is a teacher I will never forget. You can tell he is genuinely passionate about what he teaches and cares very much about his students. The class was difficult for most people and the material was overwhelming at times, but ProV would always take the time to explain concepts in memorable ways (like little skits or dances) that stick with you.

felix is a fun personality but can be hard on assignments. microbiology will be studying each microbe and what agar tests they use to find them. he will require group work, and his multichoice tests often have 12 choices instead of ABCD. this is not an easy A but its not too hard to pass with c or better. take him he is a decent/solid choice.

Pro V is an excellent professor who wants to see his students succeed and learn while being challenged. If you have the work ethic and show up for a majority of the class then you will pass. His academic discussion approach to lecture make it enjoyable. There is definitely a method to his madness.

Difficult but wonderful class! MicroBio will be intense no matter who you take. ProV cares deeply about his students. While I got a good grade, a LOT of time was dedicated to studying for this class. On occasion he gave random extra credit to EVERYONE when lecture participation was high, and he gives extra credit to study in groups. Loved class!

ProV is awesome! All of his lectures are on PowerPoint (which are uploaded to blackboard). I don't recommend missing class because he goes over a few things that are not on the slides and it will end up on a test. He's very approchable and his study guides for lecture and lab are very helpful!

I have a B.A. already and have had tons of different professors. This man is not only teaching you Biology, but hes also helping you form very important study habits that will help you throughout all of college. He's the type of teacher I wish I could have started out with back when I got my first degree. Take this guy if you can!

He is amazing! He will break the most complex things into simpler forms. His class lectures are well organized, easy to understand and engaging. I would say, if you show up, be active, ask questions and do the work..you'll do fine! He made learning fun!

ProV is incredibly caring and genuinely wants his students to understand& succeed in the course. He goes above and beyond to help, and honestly, if you're not passing his class, you're probably doing nothing. His lectures are always fun and engaging. I actually enjoy his class so much that I don't want the semester to end!

Pro V brings energy to micro. While the exams can be tricky, the labs are engaging. Definitely use unstuck ai alongside the textbook to stay on top of the material.

I personally really enjoyed Dr. Villarreal course. You can tell he's very passionate about the subject material. He goes above & beyond to help his students. Sincerely, I don't think any other professor would care as much. Attending lectures is mandatory and his exams are entirely based on that. It's not an easy class but he's your best shot.

A passionate and insightful professor! Prep well before lectures. Assignments due on lecture day to reinforce learning. Tests align with slides; complex topics are made clear. The classroom environment is highly interactive, and lab instructions are thorough. Excellent feedback, strong communication, and helpful SI sessions! I highly recommend it!

Pro V is one of the most knowledgeable professors at ACC. He truly cares about each and every student. (Gives great advice + information beyond first-year level which is a bonus) Do all the homework, attend all the classes, study the powerpoints and study guides, and you will get an A. It's a bit of work, but not super difficult.

Professor Villarreal is exceptional! He teaches with genuine passion and truly cares for each of his students. This class was no walk in the park and it challenged me in numerous ways, but it also pushed me to grow. Expect to complete 2 projects,14 pre-labs, 14 lab reports, an exam, and a case studies exam with your lab group.

He's very passionate in what he does and really loves teaching us about the course. He's a great professor, one of the best I had this semester. I'd definitely take his class again
