very nice teacher, easy class
She is very smart. Knows what she is talking about. But teaching technic wasn't so good. Talks and writes very fast. Not very helpful when it comes to post lecutre notes. She may teach this class in Spring 2005, watch out for her 12 pages research paper.
she's super nice and helpful. she has an accent so its hard to understand her sometimes and she talks fast. but she does a lot for her students, i think she's awesome.
Xiao is really nice, but she's difficult to understand because of her accent, and it gets worse when she gets excited and talks fast (which happens a lot). However, she's organized and posts all of the lectures onlline, so if you don't catch it the first time around, you can still read the notes.
Her notes make sense, which is taken out of the book, but she is very hard to understand. Her fast-paced lecturing along with the accent makes for a bad learning combination.
i admit...xiao knows her stuff. but she cannot teach. she's horrible. she thinks everyone in the class is cheating. she yells at everyone. she's HORRIBLE. stay away!
what can i say...if you take this class youll understand all she says is: "bla bla bla..."
This prof is a beeyatch at heart, even though not outwardly. She'd yell at you if you don't do things her way. I find her unprofesional and immature. She's a spoiled brat who got lucky in her educational endeavor due to her cleverness and quick intelligence. The class isn't hard but not fun.
You don't have to try hard to get a C. She's not a good prof however. She'd yell at you or belittle you if you ask her questions; yet, she always goes around and asks if anyone has n/e question. She's rude, has an ugly face, and needs to grow up.
She's terrible. Cant understand a word she says. i would not recommend her. I got an A in Econ202, I got a low C in her class. Im a good student. She is really bad.
Got an A in her class BUT had to read EVERYTHING, 3 required books, write a 4 pg report. She repeats things over and over as if we are in kindergarten. Although she tries to be helpful and provides notes on BlackBoard, it does NOT help at all on her exams. Her exams are tricky, one mult. choice has 12 poss. answers. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED
Very bad lecturer. Speaks way too fast. Very harsh grading in which the curves are nowhere near as helpful as she would say it is. Tests are very tricky so you're going to have to read everything in the book just to get a passing grading. Her class seems extremely long. Take another professor if you can.
She is terrible! I read everything, get As in all other classes, & C in this one. Not open to questions, doesn't listen well--can't answer questions clearly and gets mad when you press for a helpful answer. Went to office hours and she couldn't even tell me why I got the grade I did. SHE SHOULD NEVER TEACH ANYONE!! Complain to dean if possible.
Pretty easy professor. But really boring! Her tests are not too bad, considering that she gives you a study sheet.
Contrary to what everybody else has said on this site, I really like her. Though she can be a bit hard to understand during lectures, if you pay atttention well enough, you can actually learn something. I never have to do any homework for the class except an occasional homework assignment and then study for the midterm and final. I like her!!
I found the class very interesting and useful. The professor was very good. I don't understand the other comments, probably just the bad students wanting to blame someone else for not doing the work.
That last 2 ratings must have been rated by the professor herself because she is a VERY unfair and mean teacher. DO NOT take this class even if she was the only one teaching it. Take it the following semester if possible.
She is nice and helpful. The only thing that u have to do is going to the class and studying the note or outline that she gave u. She is not a tough grader actually.
I had this class a year ago. She was somewhat of a tough grader, although fair. Her accent is hard to distinguish at times, and she talks way too fast. If you take down all the notes from her lectures and read the chapters pertaining to what she talks about most, it's easy to pass the class. It's not a hard course, you just gotta go to class.
Not a tough grader. Test off notes. Need to read the book for quizzes. HER PERSONALITY STINKS
I made the mistake of not taking the advice of students on this website, and I took this professor last semester. DO NOT take her!!! Worst teacher ever! On her test, she has 8 multiple choice answers to each question. Very hard to understand, and she talks way to fast. Save yourself the wated time and don't take her.
Horrible, rude and ignorant. never take her course if possible.
Her class was pretty lad-back (micro econ), there was a mid-term and final with 2 short papers. The test was MC and a few short essays, which wasn't too hard if you study her test reviews, she also gives a lot of hand outs (no need for notebook). She also gives a curve. I would take her again.
this is the worsest teacher ever. her personality is definitely horrible. shes so full of herself dont take her unless necessary.
I had to re-take this class because i got a D-. Get this: I got an A when i retook the class but i learned more in her class. So, don't take her
Xiao cares about her students.
She is passionate about teaching Econ. Just show up to class and don't always expect to get an easy grade. You have to study (80-90% of her lectures)..the students that didn't do so good in her class were students who didnt study and expected an easy way out...awesome professor!
I thought she is a good teacher. She always review at the beginning fo the course. She is helpful whenever i emailed her. she goes fast sometimes but then her little story at the beginning is fun to know. i learn so much in her class..... TAKE HER
Her class seems to be pretty damn easy at first, but when it comes to her exams everything that she says that will be on it, actaully isn't on it. If u do take her class make sure to read to material. A majority of the questions will come from there.
Professor Xiao's is pretty chill throughout the semester. The tests are pretty darn hard, there are is a lot of studying to do if you want an A in the class. But she gives a generous curve to help out. And there are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Be sure to show up and do the presentation, she'll remember you.
Hard class. Plus/minus. MUST come to class everyday or u will do poorly. Talks fast. sit in front. Tests are tough; lots of memorizing.Ex Credit to top 2 quiz grades only. Hint:on tests, study EVERYTHING, not just what she says. Likes stuff that has "lists" in the notes.Great person!!! tough tests.Curves about 1/2 a letter grade or so. go to class!
Prof Xiao likes to teach in a very fast manner. However, she does make learning pretty fun with her personality. She loves to talk about sports, has a great sense of humor, and plus she's hot. As long as you study her notes, you should pass easily. We had several group quizzes and tests. Overall, I would take her again.
She's sick in her performance. She tries to make class more interesting and funny, but it's so stupid. The tests are freaking hard. Even you try your best and spend a lot of time on studying and memorizing her notes, you still can't do well. Her tests are freaking details and she expects you to know things she doesn't even teach in class.DON'T take
She likes to tell the class about fun facts and information beginning each class. She's hilarious and loves talking about sports. Tests are really hard, but she does give group quizes and tests on certain occasions-Sit next to a Nerd. One presentation and one small paper. Come to class and you pass. She loves to wear black and she's super hot!
Don't know where all the neg. ratings come from. They're wrong! She's a great teacher, brilliant person, very helpful, & funny. She's tough, but geez, it's college, not high school! She's fair, gives a chance for extra CR, & will pre-grade your paper so you can fix it! Just go to class, pay attn, take notes, you'll get a B; + do readings, get A.
Her class was fun! Even though she has strong accent, she is very energetic and passionate about her stuff and teaching. every thing is pretty clear if you pay attention at class. she will literally tell you what will be on the test. loved taking her class.:)
Hard class, but great teacher. The stugy guides/notes are very helpful. Study the practice questions. She will always help you. Probably one of my favorite teachers, although I did not get the best grade in the class, she is fair. Attendence is a must even if when she does not take roll.
Smart lady, good teacher for a hard class. Usually very helpful, but sometimes can be nasty, esp. if you don't go to class (your own fault). Big flirt w/ the guys.
Hard to understand at times. Very READING INTENSIVE class, articles are very long and only a handful of questions on test, but it'll make or break your grade. Go to class, pay attention, pass with C, no problem. Want a B+ or higher? Better buckle down and get ready to spend time scouring over details no one remembers. Hope it helps, good luck.
Horrible ! THe class is helpful to get knowledge, but she is freaking horrible. Flirt with guys, hard grader, very mean. DO NOT TAKE ! I'm serious.
Helpfull teacher, but her test questions are really dirty, so you do have to know the minor details to get a good grades.
Topic was interesting to me, professor killed interest. Tests were hard, curves but still not enough. I'm a 3.95 GPA student. Read all the "required" readings. Prof will pull 1 tiny detail from a 40 page reading. Busted my butt, still ended up with B in class. Would not recommend.
Her notes are difficult to follow because her writing is horrible and her organization is terrible. Her test questions are about things most people would not remember even if you study. A lot of times, her questions seemed to not make any sense or even contradicted themselves. She also has this horrible habit of asking, "Are you okay?" Annoying!
Xiao has been more than helpful. She went above and beyond in helping me not only with her classwork, she was also available to help me with another class - running regression models, helping me with Economics statistics for tax purposes. I am very fortunate to have been able to take her class this semester.
Hard to understand her language, hard to read her writing, hard to keep in touch when she doesn't answer email in a timely fashion. She can have an attitude when you ask her for help and her teaching ethical skills can be down right poor at time. Would I recommend her, absolutely not! I watched her speak down to people as if they were kid, so sad!
Class is tough! Take 315 its way easier. Failed the midterm and final but ended up with a C. Try hard, attend class, attend office hours, and she will pass you.
although the class was hard, she made it worthwhile and interesting. she always has interestin clips to show us at the beginning of class. she tries to be funny to keep us awake. not really necessary to buy the textbook. gives out curves during tests and quizzes.
How the heck do you fail the midterm and final and still get a passing grade??? Something is wrong with this teacher and she makes learning dull and boring. A lot of her concepts don?t make any sense, like showing stupid clips to that class that don't relate to economics. Also she will make you waste money to buy additional textbooks for nothing!!!
If you are from mainland China then take her?she will cater to you by favors. If you?re American then you might want to look elsewhere. She will highlight an attitude when you ask her for help. Plus she thinks she knows it all and belittles most students [I still wonder what I learned from her non-sense skills] by blaming them for not understanding
She goes through the lecture extremely fast, has horrible writing and unorganized across the board. Gives out study guides and practice test. Extra credit is in group work upon completion of the study guide, however, extra credit only goes to the people with the highest average total which are usually the people who don't need it...so it's useless
class is redic. her broken english and incomprehensible lecture/notes make this class overly hard. i understand the material is meant to be difficult but she intentionally makes it even worse. her lack of teaching skills renders this class pointless. wont learn anything relevant. exams based on lecture. textbook useless. not hot!! not recommend!!
a good teacher. she is very helpful. class is challege but very useful. she like hard-working students.
I do not know what all these kids are talking about. Professor Xiao is a great professor that is passionate about the subject. You must attend class, study the notes, take lecture notes and the read the book to pass. HARD WORK is required. However, she is fair. Plus she curves!
This is an Adult that is older than Xiao and let me tell ya find another professor. From experience her class and attitude was down right piss poor. Likewise to other ratings choose somebody else that cares by illustration helpful coaching with Econ!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!! FIRST OF ALL HER ENGLISH IS VERY BROKEN! (NOT TO BE DISRESPECTFUL) HERE NOTES ARE SLOPPY SHE JUST SCRIBBLES ON THE BOARD THERE IS NO STRUCTURE! SHES NICE BUT HER TEACHING METHODS ARE HORRIBLE! FIND A DIFFERENT TEACHER!
Nice teacher. Very Helpful. Visit her at office hour, you will get extra help. Test is hard, but she curves. I got "B" without text book. Attending class and getting good notes is the key to success. If you want "A", you have to take nots and reading book. Strong recommend her.
Where to start? Well dont expect any email replies from her, I sent her many emails over the semester and she told me she was receiving them, but NEVER replied back to them even when I said URGENT PLEASE REPLY in the title. Her accent is very thick and all her writing on the board is incomprehensible. Avoid if you can.
Prof Xiao is a very nice and will help you if you ask, but she is very vague when it comes to test content. Class material makes up 50%, the rest is material from the text (which is a very hard and boring read). Be prepared to read and memorize every section;she will not tell you what part of the reading she wants you to know.
She is a very nice professor. The exams are hard, but the curve is like 10%. English speaking is her weakness, but I can understand what she said. She's very helpful, and you will know that when you are her office!
Prof. Xiao talks very fast! You have to pay very close attention to what she is saying because she also has a somewhat thick accent. Other than that she is very nice. With a little effort you can easily get a B. She doesn't really help during her office hours though.
Yes, she has an accent and talks fast, but you get used to it. EXTREMELY EASY GOING and super nice. "5" aka 1 min-you do it, you get full credit presentation. Essay is super easy, just answer some questions. Practice tests (ex credit) after every chp and tests are based on those, so study that! I didn't buy the textbook.
The professor does not respond to email at all. Her teaching style is confusing, accompanied with her thick accent and fast pace lecture. It's difficult to follow all of it. However; she's generous with points though. Take her for easy grade. Choose different teachers if you truly eant to learn.
Sorry, but literally the worst teacher I've ever had throughout my entire path of college. Not only could I not understand her accent, but couldn't read her sloppy, horrible writing on the board. She talks very fast and writes very small and sometimes speaks quietly when she writes. Would not recommend her under any circumstance.
Professor Xiao is an awesome professor! Yea she has a thick accent and pretty unclear at time. When you go to her office hours, she explains everything more thoroughly. She makes everyone do a 5 min presentation aka 1 min. Her exam and final are really simple just study off her notes and study guide. My group talked too much but she's nice bout it
She is by far the nicest professor I've had so far! She tells you everything you need to know about the exam. Has great knowledge in the subject, but she does talk a bit too fast sometimes. Focus on studying the practice questions she gives you after each chapter. Those will save your life.
She is a nice professor and will definitely help you out, if you seek it. A lot of reading. When taking notes, she writes all over the place making it hard to keep track. She mentions a lot of things that you don't need to remember, which confuses you on what you need to study. Test/quizzes are EXTREMELY difficult but project and paper is EASY.
Xiao lectures off of PowerPoints and gives you practice questions (which she claims will be on the test-- only about half appear on the test). You have to give a brief presentation, which I think was just to kill time. She is confusing and her writing is terrible on the board. If you can take another professor, you will learn the material better.
Took it this summer. 2 exams, 1paper, 1 oral presentation and 2 short quizzes. She gives practice questions after finishing one chapter and it is helpful to the exam. Though she has accent, you can understand the class. She is awesome, full with energy and passion.
Professor Xiao is the nicest professor I've had at CSUF. She explains clearly what you need to know for the quizzes and exams. She assigns readings but they only like 2-4 questions would be on exams so the books are optional if you want an A. One oral presentation and a research paper is assigned. Overall I enjoyed this class. Theres no homework!
Professor Xiao is an extremely hard professor. Her lectures are absolutely horrible. But compared to other professors I would say that she tries her best. Her test are extremely hard. The positive side is that she gives you a study guide for the test and what questions you should expect.
She is a nice professor. Though she has accent, she tries to do the best. 2 exam, 2 quiz, 1 oral presentation and 1 paper. No homework!!! I like her!
Very helpful if you are willing to go to office hours.
Go to office hours for additional help.
Her lectures may be a bit confusing, but she gives you everything you need to pass: Chapter outlines, nonHW MCQs that are 90% similar to the tests, and study guide explaining how to do each question. 2 quiz, 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 short presentation, 1 easy paper. If you're capable of a little self studying then this is a piece of cake!
She's straightforward and doesn't assign busy work. No homework. There are practice questions that you do with a group. The practice questions are very similar to the actual tests. There was a midterm, a final, 2 quizzes, a short paper, and a presentation. She let us pick our own topic for the presentation and it was only a few minutes long.
Wonderful professor! She throws small jokes, gives out candy, and rambles a bit. Slight accent but understandable. Everyday is lecture plus student presentations. She is bubbly and enthusiastic and talks fast but you don't need to take detailed notes because everything is on the study guide. . Take her for your econ elective!
Quite hard. She seldom put your test result on Titanium and you need calculate your grade by yourself.
I couldn't understand her with the thick accent. She also talks very fast and assumes everyone knows what she's talking about. She doesn't like to answer questions because it stops her lecture. She won't upload her powerpoints because she want's students to purchase the book even though she supplies an outline that is exactly like the book
Great Teacher. teaches of the lectures. just go to class take notes and pay attention. one paper, 2 quizes, one presentation in which you pick your own topic. Gives study guides for the Midterm and exams. Study guides are pretty close to the actual exam. no homework and little reading from the book. great attitude, funny. If you try you will pass!
Probably the worst professor I've ever had in my lifetime of going to college. In class, she talks extremely fast and scribbles on the board. Good luck trying to understand her thick accent and making sense of what she writes on the board. Her tests are meant to trick you and confuse you. She doesn't care if you pass or fail. Avoid at all costs!
All over the place, worst professor I have ever had, confusing, not clear, great expert in her field but a horrible professor, over worked, teaching too many classes.
There are 2 exams, 2 quizzes, a short easy presentation, & an essay. She has made econ interesting! She is super nice & funny. She does have an accent, but can still understand her! She is seriously an awesome teacher, so take her if you have the chance. She also gives out study guides that are SUPER HELPFUL 4 EXAMS and extra credit available.
I wish I could give her a better rating because she seems nice but her lectures were all over the place. Her accent makes it pretty difficult to follow along and the notes she wrote on the board weren't legible. You're better off using her guidelines and taking your own notes. Exams were very tough. Her style of teaching was not effective
Ms. Xiao was kinda hard... If you want to pass remember to do her study questions and look at the notes she posts. Most of the questions are based on them and changed around just a little. She's a sweet woman but the accent tripped me up. ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE CONFUSED. Definitely should've done that more..
She's very funny and she likes to talk about the modern economy. A couple of group quizzes and 2 exams and 1 short presentation on any topic you like (macro). Exams are okay, just study her materials and previous exams. 1 important essay paper. Her grading is very easy and simple. no homework and no need for textbook.
Professor Xiao is a terrible communicator. It is difficult to understand her and even more difficult to receive an email response from her. The class was basic with several quizzes, a final, and a. presentation. I wish I can give her a better rating, but She does not deserve it as an online instructor. Hopefully she is different in person.
Make sure you attend class to get the information for the quizzes. This class is graded by very few items. Also, make sure that you do the practice question packets because it is very similar to the quiz and tests. Also, do the paper at the end of the semester, it is 15 percent of your grade. Show up and put in the effort.
She was a decent professor who tried her best to make class fun with the student presentations about anything for the countries. Study the review questions since they are very similar to the tests. Make sure to do the readings in their assigned weeks.
70% of your grade is the midterm and final. The tests are mostly based on practice worksheets that she gives out after every chapter. If you show up to class, study her slides and do the practice worksheets you should be fine. She grades on a curve but it is still a difficult course. Make sure you prepare for the quizzes, essay and presentation.
At first the professor was fun and made class interesting in the first 2 weeks then it became boring and I almost fell asleep. The midterm and the final takes up a lot of your grade since she barely gives you any other assignments. She is a cool teacher but she needs to give out more assignments to bring up grades.
Take several days reply students. No extra credit. Grade by few things. Hard and tricky quizzes and exams. please come to class and take picture of her red bullet points, because it would not show on modules. final contain 5-10% questions from book. Study guide helps a bit, but still need to read the book. So that you could pass. hard class
Prof. Xiao is a caring professor but she definitely needs a better teaching approach. Attendance is not mandatory but lecture is super heavy. There were not many assignments so grades were mainly based on exam scores. The material is difficult to grasp and she does not upload her lectures online. Majority of my class were on the verge of failing.
Really enjoyed Ms. Xiao's class; sad I missed many days. Few assignments; mostly ungraded practice. Does not require attendance, but the few graded quizzes were not on syllabus or canvas so beware if you need to take time off for any reason; have a class buddy to know when you need to come in. When in class makes sure math/formulas is understood.
Good teacher who tries to make her class fun. (2) Quizzes aren't too bad and the midterm ('ok' but you NEED to study). Didn't really use the textbook since she had everything on the slides she posted. Lectures can get long and boring, but pay attention when she does example problems (they'll be on the tests).
It was honestly one of my easier classes that semester. She just lectures a lot but if you copy it and take notes, it's what the exam is. No homework, just a paper (that's really easy) and a quick 5 min. presentation you do on any topic you want about one of the countries (easy). Just study your notes and find quizlets online!!
I like her as a person but not so much as a professor. Her lectures were not organized the best. She doesn't create slides but rather a Word doc that has notes on it which she reads off of/discusses. It was hard to read it too because it was a doc and she didn't even post the it to Canvas. It's hard to get an email response back from her too.
Normally I don't write a review if I did not do well because I might have not done all I can do. But, with this class I did everything and still could not pass. I went to office hours and never missed a lecture. Her lectures are confusing and she is not great at teaching so you understand the material. Take a different prof. I later did and passed.
Nice professor but lectures can be long and boring. Grades were based off of 2 quizzes, a midterm and a final. Easy class if you make sure to pay attention, make sure you understand all the equations.
One of the worst professor ever. Do yourself a favor and don't take her if you want to have a piece of mind. Never responds to her emails. Very rude when answering questions
Prof. Xiao makes econ engaging. Utilize her study guides and practice worksheets - they're key for the tests. Attendance helps, but not mandatory. Unstuckstudy is great for extra prep too.
Feng Xiao's class was mostly straightforward, but lectures could be lengthy and not too important to attend. Exams are pretty standard and she overall teaches well enough to cover the material on them. Some annoying presentation projects but overall not too hard of a class to get a decent grade in.
There's no homework, your grade is based on a couple presentations, a few exams, and that's all, so you must perform well on them. Her lectures aren't very important to attend, she talks about "fun facts" and stuff not actually on the exams a lot. On the bright side, she does provide a study guide at the beginning of the semester to study.
Very rude when it comes to questions, tough grader, goes off on tangents about fun facts often, and when grading and critiquing work she doesn't actually tell you what was done incorrectly, and once again she'd not nice, nor helpful when asked questions so that won't help you either, good luck.
Taught myself most of the information in this class and barely passed. Material isn't very difficult but her way of explaining it is. Practice exams are very VERY similar to exams which helps.
The class isn't difficult if you use her practice test which give you a free A if you study them. Her accent can make it difficult to understand her, but you eventually get used to it, but if you don't you can self-teach yourself using her slides. Also, there's not many assignments, but your grade HEAVILY realizes on tests (MCQ) and a five pager
