His accent wasn't a big deal to me as it was for others who though his lectures were too hard to understad. Though, his lectures are very long and term filled and his midterm and final are no piece of cake either.
He teaches a good class. He grades fairly. All you have to do to pass is attend class and do the work. Very interesting too!
nice guy who seems to care. his tests are no walk in the park but there is no homework. big on dates and specific info.
If you just go and sit there, i promise it will sink in. Tests are easy, he lets you study from the actual test. He gices great examples and has a good sense of humor, too.
Easy class. No HW, 4 tests, drops lowest one out of 3 then one final. Must know terms. Test are usually 2 essay questions out of blue book. Very easy. Straight lecture class. Good for student athletes because no hw or attendance
He talks about Africa a lot, and he's really funny. His exams are not easy, but just remember to write it in sentence format and include all the points he talks about. Don't bother reading the book. If he doesn't talk about it, it won't be on the exam. Attendence is crucial if you want good notes.
Fenno was great!! He brings so much more to the class and lectures than one would think. His accent was difficult at first but it became a joke later in the semester. He grades rough, I thought. STUDY HARD AND MEMORIZE every word he says in class. Hardly any bookwork or homework required.
gives 3 exams [all essays] but keeps the 2 highest scores. final is 1/2 your grade. book was fairly useless. be sure to critique ideas or theories on exams otherwise you lose big points. he is funny at times. has a thick accent and writes on the board a lot. mandatory attendence. i took great notes, went to every class, and still got a B
Goods: Gives study sheet before exam(20-30 terms and 4 essays-out of them he picks 3 terms + 1 essay.) Bad: Always late Never knows what topic we're on Hours late to Office Hours Doesn't leave feedback on exams Unorganized Redundant Wants you to regurgitate EXACTLY what he tells you in class word for word. Thinks C's are GREAT! TAKE Vaz

He is a great teacher. He is very entertaining. You will learn about the inner cities in the U.S. And,read a book called Monster, which was written by an ex-gang member in L.A. I highly recommend you to take this class.
I took his class over the summer and now I'm taking his 120 class and he is a good teacher that really wants his students to understand the material and pass the class.
I took his class over the summer and now I'm taking his 120 class and he is a good teacher that really wants his students to understand the material and pass the class.
I didn't like this class. For the tests you have to write exactly what he writes on the board to get a good grade. Don't try to write your own ideas and thoughts or you wont pass. His lectures were dry and he goes over the same things a lot.
Took on a recommendation and got exactly what I expected. He challenges you more than most DVC instructors, but does belabor points not needing such emphasis. Sometimes hard to understand, but he does show an enthusiasm for his subject and a desire to see his students succeed.
Unstructured teaching skills. & he's biased
i dropped his class before i even took the midterm. his method of teaching is very confusing and a little difficult to follow. it pretty much goes through one ear and out the other. you should think twice before you take his class.
he is frikin awsome. he speaks very little english, i dont get a single word he says. but when the test comes, you just write everything he wrote and if it is exact, you get your A. I have learned little, but free A.
What a funny guy! Don't take this class if you are a hardcore patriot/republican. You need to go to class to get handouts and lecture notes for the midterms. No HW. Although I know from other soci classes that his lectures are supported by research and fact, i can see how it would seem biased.
Looking for an EASY A? Just copy ALLL of his notes on the board and be able to copy them down for the test. No HW. Drops lowest test score. I plan to take him again.
3 tests, drops the lowest. Everyone else is correct, you have to learn the definitions, critque and examples! for every term and essay or you fail the test. I basically just studied the class notes and wrote the exact responses on the test verbatim, the only thing the book is good for is to show you read it by adding an example from the book.
In my opinion: If your a good listener and take good notes this is the class for you. You do have to study but Mr. Ogutu gives you a study guide before each test and final. Memorize concepts and the questions and you will get a good grade. If you do not like learning or studying though, dont take this class. He is a funny guy and is always joking,
Interesting fellow. African (Kenyan) by birth Expects politebehavior in class (pay attention, don't disturb others). Has an African accent, but makes up for that by writing everything he says on the blackboard, which makes note-taking easy. If you take good notes, and pay attention in class, you will do well. Gives study review sheets for exams.
great guy. makes the class really fun to go to. all u need to do is take notes and memorize them for the exam. all the exam questions come from the exam guide he gives us.
for summer class-ur grade relies on bluebook(define terms-critque+essay)exams- 2 midterms(drop the lowest) and 1 final exam. the book isnt worth buying because exam is mostly from his class notes. just memorize everything from what he wrote. studyguide are given. despise his accent, he's a nice funny prof. i recommend him for a class of intro soc.
What a great professor! He is very smart and funny. Summer class was a breeze- as long as you take down everything he writes on the board you'll pass- also, complete the study guide as if it was mandatory- the questions on the exams are exactly the same. good luck!
Great class. I had a night class. I would go and get the hand outs, and leave at break. I don't think I've ever stayed for a full class. He gives a study guide, which is the best ever. Memorize and regurgitate what you read from handouts. I aced first two tests, don't have to take the third, and now am waiting to take the final exam.
I thought his class was great!! he was one of the best professors ive ever had. His tests mainly consist of his lectures that he gives in class, id suggest showing up every day so you dont have to work through the book for the terms. Easiest professor by far.
Amazing class, hes a great teacher and guy. Always willing to help clarify. Just go to class and take the notes and you'll get the class, book's not really neccesary. But a great class.
He is an awesome teacher. does not care about attendance..4 essay midterms n he drops one...thats what your grade solely relies on.
Ogutu was definitely one of my favorite professors at DVC. he was funny, he would always make connections to his stories from Kenya to the material we are covering in class. His class was fairly easy, he pretty much tells you what is going to be on the test. attend class, write whatever is on the board, study the study guide and you'll get an A.
Ogutu is a good teacher. Entertaining and funny. Took summer class, go to class every day, and make sure to write down everything he writes on the board. Do not need book even though he says you will, everything on test is from board. But study the study guide hard!! 3 bluebook tests 2 worth 35 and one worth 30 that's all your grade is based on.
LOVED IT! You cannot pass this class if you do not show up. Text book will never be used. So long as you listen and write everything down on the board you will pass. Tests are vocab and essays. Sounds tougher then it really is. Your lowest test is dropped.
Copy EVERYTHING he writes on the board it's the answers to the tests! Book is used a little. 3 tests worth 30 points each, drops the lowest 1, and final is 35 points. All quiz's and the final are ALL essay. You need to study hard to get a good grade. He is very fun and entertaining. You'll like him. He does not take roll. Never get to leave early
At first, his lectures are interesting, but he easily forgets what he previously lectured on. You'll have 3 lectures that are verbatim (exactly the same). There's no need to buy the books, he gives you the info you need in the lecture and in some of the packets. To get an 'A', you just need to memorize his lecture and write it in your test book. I found the class annoying & redundant. The only upside, there's no hw.
He is awesome! This african man is hilarious- He'll have you laughing every class! Clearly explains all concepts, just write and memorize what he puts up on the board and you got it! It is such a pleasure to attend his classes, so chill! TAKE HIM! (summer course - only 3 grades; 2 mid-terms and 1 final)
For a critical thinking course, he actually doesn't want any critical thinking done...at all. Memorize his repetitive lectures and remember to reference important names and their critiques on essays and you'll do fine.
If you're looking for an easy A critical thinking class, take this one! There's no homework and he pretty much gives you all the answers to the mid-terms and final beforehand, as well as a study guide. As long as you take down his notes and study them before the tests, you're good to go. The lectures are pretty interesting, too! :)
Dr. Ogutu was an EXCELLENT teacher! He has a fresh perspective on life. You walk away with skills to critically think. Easy class if you listen. Pay attention, & take notes and it's an easy "A". He is a great professor and a great man all around. No one should be able to say anything bad about him. Those who do... are just lazy and prob bitter.
Mr ogutu is hilarious! He is also a really nice guy. Gives 3 essay tests, with a study guide with all the questions before hand. Basically write as much as you can from the lecture and you will get an A. Plus use examples mentioned in class. There is no homework, just make sure to answer all the questions on the study guide and memorize them. He is a really nice guy. Took him twice and will take every class I can! Very very good at what he does, and teaches at UC Berkeley.
Fenno is the funniest professor I've ever had the opportunity of having. He is from Kenya, and will take every opportunity he can to let you know it. Make sure to take the class in the morning, because he will put a smile on your face for the remainder of the day. He is a hilarious man with an awesome sense of humor that only a Kenyan can have.
He's a bit repetitive, which can make the class very boring. No hw, except for some reading. There are 3 exams, he gives a study guide prior. You can skip 1 or have the lowest score dropped. He rarely took attendance so you can easily skip w/o consequences. Also, he's from Africa, and will talk about it every class.
Good teacher. Super clear on what he wants. Passes out a study guide of what the test is exactly going to look like and tell you how many of those problems will be on the exam but not which ones. Lectures get a bit boring but he's a real nice person. Easy class hands down. You can prob pass the class without the book but the book is also helpful.
No critical thinking done at all. Just memorize and regurgitate. You learn a bit and he's pretty funny. If you don't really care, take this class.
He is from Kenya,Africa he has a strong accent but can speak english fairly well. He doesnt require any homework but reading from the class reader which is a text book full of articles copyed it costed $35. The lectures are pretty intresting he jokes around a bit to keep people intrested. The tests are all in essay form so study study study!
It was a pretty good class. Its pretty easy. All you need to do is memorize the answers from the study guides. Three midterms, one is dropped. One final.
Boring, no critical thinking required. Learned some stuff. Overall "meh"
Very smart professor! 3 midterms, but only 2 are mandatory so he takes the 2 highest scores if you decide to take 3 midterms. Text book use is low. Just memorize everything in the notes for midterm and you'll be successful.
He's a great teacher. He writes everything up on the board for you - just copy what he writes, memorize it and you'll be golden.
You will live off his notes, therefore attend. He is so funny and nice. At 8 am he had us all going, very funny guy and great stories. Easy A if you truly pay attention in class. And he has the best accent ever, not hard to understand though :) Love Ogutu! A very wise Man.
Hes funny at times and he knows his stuff. memorize all the notes and go to class and you'll do great. buying the book wasn't completely necessary, you could survive without it.
This professor is very hard to understand (he's from Kenya.)Not only that but his tests are not as easy as many people think. He said will put 3 out 4 question and when the test day arrived he only put 1 question, so your odds to get the right one is very small. I DO NOT recommend him at all. He'll screw your GPA score.
I took his summer class for sociology and it was hard. Basically, to pass this class you have to (1) sit in the front, because his handwriting is horrible, (2) memorize every piece of his lecture because his exams are short essays and your answers must be exactly as how he said it in class. So if you attend every class you don't need the book.
Class is a bit difficult if you are not familiar with the subject. The professor explains his lectures very well and tries to make them as clear as possible. Exams are all written, no multiple choice. He really expects you to know what you are talking about and memorize his lectures. Rather funny
I have now taken 2 of his classes and I still think he is one of the best professors here at DVC. 3 midterms, all in-class essays, drops your lowest one. 1 final essay. Don't NEED the book but it can be helpful. To get an A, memorize his lectures word for word and go to class! Easy class. Funny/great teacher.
Great class! He never assigns homework and everything he says he writes on the board (he's from Kenya, he can be hard to understand at first). As long as you write everything down, you will get an A. 3 easy midterms, he drops the lowest score. Final was easy as well. He's very funny and makes class enjoyable. Definately recommend!
He is very unclear. He is not very helpful and doesn't seem to accept when he is being corrected. If you need a Sciology class take Barlow or Vazquez instead
He's a very enthusiastic teacher. He brings a lot of real-world examples to the class having come from Kenya. His teaching can be a bit repetitious but you get a lot out of his lectures because of that. He gives you every opportunity to get an "A".
Horrible teacher, please do not take this class unless it's the last solution. This teacher doesn't know what he's talking about, subject jumping all over the place. Hardest test I had ever taken for the past 2 years of student life. He repeats a lot of one thing, review past class for over 2/3 of the class.
This is an easy class, overall. You may not be able to understand him, but all you really need to get an A in this class is to remember EVERYTHING he writes on the board. While this may be a challenge, anyone can do it if they just prepare and take time to memorize. You do not need the text book! Write down the things on the board word for word.
Amazing professor!Ogutu is brilliant and funny. I love his African stories. The comment posted below me is correct. The exams are based on what is EXACTLY IN YOUR NOTES AND ON THE BOARD. I can't emphasize this enough. It does take studying and memorization but it's still easy and fun!! P.S don't even try to cheat. He's a expert at catching people.
It was hard to understand him and read what he wrote on the board. The subjects we talked about seemed too opinionated and random. He expects you to memorize a ton of EXACT information for all written work tests
If you are looking for an easy A then take him. Only 3 midterms, one dropped, plus the final. Provides study guide before each exam and picks the exams questions out of it. No hw. Might be hard to understand his accent but all you need is to write down everything he writes on the board!!! He says to buy the book but don't! You don't need it
took this class because the course outline was intriguing. Professor Ogutu means well I'm sure, the class is a disappointment. Its difficult to hold on to what direction he is taking his lectures into and he is often side tracked. You must buy his reader, show up and memorize HIS answers to the 4 exams he offers and you will get an A.
He lectures every day for the whole class period;lectures are poorly constructed/given (for the first month of class he insisted on hand writing notes of the overhead projector and essentially stopped lecturing when the school removed it from the room), he is hard to understand, tests on what he believes most socio concepts mean, not what they are.
Overall disliked this class. He doesn't like people who miss class, and makes it known. Difficult to understand (heavy African accent) and often times repeats the same information from other lectures, and doesn't really make his point or the point of the lecture clear. No essays, but there are 3 midterms (1 can be dropped) and a final. Hard grader.
Funn man! Lectures are long. Go to class each time so you don't really need to read the book much. I didn't, probably why I didn't get an A. He has a little accident, but I understood him. I didn't read too much, but I paid attention in class, read notes from others in case I missed something & used google for extra information. 3 exams total.
He does have a thick accent, but it's not too distracting if you pay attention to the material. To get an A on tests, take plenty of notes on what he says during lecture and use your notes to study for/answer exam questions rather than focusing too much on the book. He does not like when students show up late, so be warned.
Ogutu is the best! No homework or presentations, just 3 tests (drop one) and a final. He provides study guides for all 3 tests and final. If you copy everything that is on the board and take note of his examples, you will know exactly what he wants on the tests. Very entertaining- can't wait to take another one of his classes.
Mr. Ogutu is a caring individual who's a lot more intelligent than many give him credit for. I learned a lot from his class, which he's clearly passionate about teaching. Three tests (one dropped) and a final - no homework, but definitely read the material. The only reason he didn't get a 5 was his accent. It's very, very thick.
Disappointed, because a friend recommended him. Gave it a sincere chance, but this class just continued to let me down. No direction, or lecture plan. All Period lectures when class discussion could be so rewardinf, but no just listening to the professor ramble. Very sad. Very boring.
To be honest Mr Ogutu is a reasonably a good professor. My only issues with him was his accent and explanations. Sometimes his explanations can be vague other than that Ogutu was a fairly good professor. Want to pass his class with an A? My advice is just copy down whatever he writes on board and explains in class, follow the study guide he gives before exam and memorize accordingly for the exam and your good.
The class was very straightforward. Your grade is made up of 2 written exams & your final. He is adamant that you need to get the book, but really you just need to study and read the handouts he gives you. I passed the class, simply by showing up, taking notes, studying the whole study guide. His accent is very thick, but he will repeat himself.
He drops the lowest test grade of the first three lecture exams so you only have to take two and then the final. 3 tests in all, no homework. It helps to come to class to really understand his concepts but the course reader explains everything. I received a B in the course. Really funny guy from Kenya with an extremely thick accent.
If you aren't very good at understanding accents (like me), stay away from this professor. Mr. Ogutu has a very thick accent, I could maybe understand every other sentence, making for a very frustrating class.
Prof Ogutu is a very kind hearted man, but his wealth of knowledge is lost in his teaching style. He lacks structured lesson plans of any kind, and will often repeat the SAME notes 2 to 3 classes in a row. Lastly, his answers to student questions are vague at best, and he often dances around them (cuz he doesn't know what you're asking). Ask clear.
He has a thick accent which he can't help, but it is very hard to understand. He doesn't make sense sometimes and honestly if you just copy down the board notes and study the packets he gives you you will get an A. Most of the time people day dream while he talks because he goes very off topic and isn't direct with his lectures.
Semi-easy A, based on written tests only. He lets you take 3 midterms and drop the lowest score, which is pretty good. Be aware-a lot of what he teaches isn't sociology. It's his opinions and own ideas. Many discussions may have a religious slant, he believes in abstinence only education and that the U.S. is a hotbed of sin. No joke.
He is a really nice person, but his class is really boring and you won't really learn many things about sociology unless you read the book. Also, he is REALLY DISORGANIZED!!!! I do not understand when he talks, nor his handwriting. so if you like sociology and you want to learn interesting things do not take this class.
If you need that guaranteed easy A to boost your gpa this is the professor you need. Literally show up everyday cause all the handouts he gives, gives you the answers he wants for each exam. He also gives "study guides" for the exam. He picks 2/3 questions from the study guide and puts them on the exam exactly as is. 3 exams drops lowest 1 & final
Fenno is nice, but an atrocious professor. His class is dull with little substance. The course description is misleading, mostly he talks about Kenya. He's very forgetful, I kid you not everyday he'd ask the class the same questions, I had running tallies in my notes I was that bored. No HW, 3 tests + Final, no email or contact outside of class.
Although his accent is hard 2 get used 2, the material of the class makes it worth it. He may not be the best teacher but hes nice and basically gives u the test questions before each test. The reader is crucial!! Especially if u tend to get lost during lectures. I recommend do the reading before class so when he lectures u know what hes talkin abt
Great teacher!! just take notes and practice the questions he gives u with HIS definitions and examples and you will get an A for sure. Try and listen too. You will learn some things that will stick with you for a long time. u Have to go to class but he's funny!! I enjoyed the class. Lowkey wish i had him for a longer than a 3 week session loll
Ogutu is a funny guy! Not sure if he is the most informative but his class was pretty chill. He gives handouts and lectures following what's on the handout. A few exams over the semester but isn't difficult at all if you study the handouts. Overall, an easy A and somewhat intresting class.
I believe Dr. Ogutu to be very knowledgeable as a sociologist and professor, but I think that his teaching methods and the points he tries to make are lost on his students. Your grade is based off of 2 essay mid terms and a final, but he gives you the answers VERBTATIM to the questions so there's not excuse to not pass.
Professor Fenno Ogutu has a very clear grading criteria, and he gives you a study guide before every mid-term/test. His lectures can drag sometimes and his teaching method is the old chalk and talk way, but he does give you the answers for the study guide--which have questions that will be on the test. Study the study guides, and you'll easily pass
Professor Ogutu's accent can be difficult to understand during lectures, but he does well at writing most of what he's said on the board. Copy everything down from lecture, and make sure you're there to collect all of the handouts because the study guide will prepare you for questions that have answers almost exactly as they appear on the handouts.
Great instructor! Sense of humor. Heavy african accent. 3 midterms, he drops the lowest graded. You can pass this class with a 60%! So long as you attend class and take notes, you will pass. He goes over the study guides before every midterm. No homework.
Strong African accent. Usually this wouldnt bother me, but both his accent AND handwriting were hard to understand. Most ppl didnt show up to class and had to learn it on their own. The plus side is that theres no hw; graded on tests only. He makes inappropriate jokes sometimes and thinks hes funny. Hes not caring at all either
he's super easy to pass. his grading scale is lower than usual, you can get a C with a 60% yeah, it's hard to understand him sometimes but it's bearable. There are 3 midterms (one you can skip or else he drops your lowest score) and one final, that's literally it. his study guides have the topics of what is exactly going to be on the exams so yeah
Was super excited to take this class, but was very underwhelmed. This teacher could benefit from learning powerpoint in order to keep lecture moving at appropriate pace. Material seemed outdated, didn't really seem relevant. But it's an easy A. Just take good notes and regurgitate it back on the tests.
one of my favorite professors! highly knowledgeable and cultured. while his accent is heavy, i didnt find a problem and really enjoyed his class. he loves talking about his experiences and tells lots of stories that relate to the concepts. copy everything he writes, read his handouts, and memorize important names/dates or you get a very good F!
His tests are in essay format. They aren't too hard. Just make sure to read the book and go to class. He loves details, examples, and likes definitions to be word for word. He goes over the test before hand, make sure you listen because he likes to say things he wants in the essays. Only thing is he tries to funny and his jokes are awful.
There is no homework or projects, all your grade is based on are on the midterms and they are really easy. Easy A.
One of the worst professors I've had. Cant understand his Kenyan accent and when I can understand it it just doesnt make sense. Tests are easy you can miss every class and just show up the day he reviews the study guide and you'll be fine. Would recommend taking any other SOC professor. Took as a summer class and it was so slow
Professor Ogutu ended up being one of the most memorable professors I've had in awhile. Although the material was not difficult, but his perspectives, his ability to engage the classroom, and the class discussions that we had during lecture was very mentally stimulating. This professor made the class very enjoyable for me during the summer.
So if you are planning to major socio, then I won't recommend you to take his class. However, if you are a student who just need a credit for IGETC, then this is the best class for you to get an easy A.
Highly recommend if just wanting the credits! Yes he is hard to understand sometimes but you can always as him or a friend as to what he said. No homework, no quizzes, just four midterms which he gives the exact questions out a week in advanced so you can study. He usually picks 2 of the questions from the study guide.
If you decide to take the class to complete your generalEd,then you should take his class. You dont have to show up for lectures, you can learn the stuff on your own easily. Make sure to come to class to get the studyguides for the midterm. Theres a total of four midterms and he drops one. And one research paper. He is really funny and social.
Youre only graded on 4 tests. He doesnt use canvas so you gotta see him to see what your grade is. His lectures were all over the place and couldnt understand him or read his writing. Hes funny but I did not learn a thing in his class.
His sociology classes are not the place to have deeper discussions on issues. He sometimes says things that are way out there. There appears to be barriers to understanding; sometimes the professor, sometimes the students. But all in all, a solid way to meet requirements and get a good grade.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. Didnt help or explain anything . Makes zero sense and wont help if you ask a question.
Love this teacher. Who ever wrote bad reviews about this teacher are the students who are lazy and don't want to work hard. Fennu shakes your hand if you get an A on the exam. He's the best take him! He's from Africa much love !!
Great guy. Hes been at dvc forever and he makes this class so easy. Theres literally one 4 exams and he drops the lowest score and two essays. Easiest A ever. Hes really funny too. Show up to lecture but specifically the day before the exam bc the study guide IS the exam. He just chooses 2 of the prompts and grades you on those. Highly recommend
class is super easy as long as you show up one term paper and 4 exams of which he drops the lowest score I have three readers for his class that I have for sale cheaper than where he has them printed contact: nansari 962 @ insite . 4cd .edu
Knowledgeable, funny, but very set in his ways. Not open to different ideas or perspectives. Moody, impersonal and ignores emails. Tests aren't so bad if you hate multiple choice and love essay questions. Just memorize everything from lecture and you're good. Overall, I would take him again.
Wonderful and insightful professor. I would take any class with Dr Ogutu!
He is a nice teacher and a funny guy too. His way of teaching is the traditional chalk and board which is fine. The lectures are okay, and the exams were not that hard and were all in essay. Highly recommend.
His tests are based off of lectures, he gives 4 exams that make up your grade but drops the lowest. 30 points per exam and 10 points for a 3 page paper, very easy if you take good notes.
I had the hardest time understanding his English which was unfortunate for me because I really wanted to understand what he was saying and if you asked him to repeat something his hearing isnt that great so you will need to repeat yourself a couple of times
He is a nice professor, talking to him is easy however since the pandemic, all classes are online. He does not know how to use canvas. I set up alarms from my canvas but since he cant use canvas, you wont even receive a notification about the mid terms. We dont have lectures just readings. He makes canvas extremely hard to navigate. Dont do it.
I think he had some issues learning to teach online courses, but I still learned a lot, and he graded on relatively few things. Just be sure to demonstrate that you thoroughly understood the reading, and do all of it, and you should be fine!
Four tests, 3 counted. The study guide has like 6 questions on it and like 3 of those are on the test. If you do the study guide you can get a good grade in the class. Short term paper at the end. I learned a looot more than I was expecting to online and it was so interesting!
I took this class online and Professor Ogutu was very nice and he was always helpful with the homework questions. His expectations were pretty clear, 4 midterms and participate in the homework questions he gives. If you take notes and understand his lectures the tests should be very easy to get through. Always answered emails fairly quickly as well
He's a very reasonable professor. Just read the textbook and you'll get an A. he gave 4 midterms (2 times essay responses each), and drops the lowest score. He graded them very reasonably.
The work was pretty easy. He grades hard. He doesnt give us any announcements or reminders regarding homework or the tests. He deletes the modules after each test so you have to do work before it. I still dont know if he uses the homework as part of the over all grade because he never graded anything other than the 4 tests and the paper.
Really enjoyed this class! Engaging topics and gives proper feedback. He is extremely clear on the curriculum, there were never surprises. His study guides give you exactly what is on the exam, and he deletes previous assignments/modules prior to (he informs you of this). He waves one exam for the whole semester. A safe space for all discussions
Professor Ogutu is extremely lazy (another review said this and I agree 100%). The fact that he never ever posted anything made it kinda easy, except for the harsh grading. He posts discussions and calls it homework and doesnt grade it at all.
Not great but not bad either. Doesn't post anything up. No homework, your entire grade is based off of 4 exams (3+1 optional final, lowest exam score dropped). There is also a term paper which counts toward your overall grade but thats it. Honestly, an easy course but he definitely is a harsh grader. Easy B but definitely makes it hard to get an A.
Absurd that DVC has a professor with so few online skills. Little communication with the class, his criteria for grading are a mystery and there is absolutely no constructive feedback. Frustrating class, avoid it if possible.
